Imagine being this confident while wrong
Prove me wrong. Show me a high skill match where this combo actually does anything except waste 2 perk slots for the killer.
Ruin only has an effect, when the killer gets survivors constantly off gens. But since the survivors constantly get pushed away from gens, they usually stumble on a lit totem, that is conveniently sitting on top of a hill, next to a gen or in another spot in plain sight.

That's a lie.
Ruin Undying is far from trash, or you wouldn't see it used in the majority of matches. It's a staple in the meta because it buys you time. Will it win you matches in every game? No. Can it win you matches based entirely on being present? Yes.
Oh i see it sometimes. When i hear 2 thunderstrucks within the first 60 seconds. Yeah, those 10 seconds it cost survivors to cleanse this combo really made a difference!

You bring up an interesting point. Why do survivors get notified if a hex is in play? Not only that, but it tells them which hex it is as well. Why? Is it otherwise too hard to figure out you are cursed?
Survivors get this notification because the devs tried (and failed) to bring solo survivors to the same information level as SWF.
Thats the only reason.

Same here: I saw a lot of smurfs too and some troller which have bullied killers on green/yellow ranks before and for those player I really love the mmr^^
And on the other side it seems that boosted tunnelkiller get now death squads and they realize now „oh, I‘m not as good how I thought“
Thats why i believe in the SBMMR. Apparently it detects those things.

@Shirtless_Myers said:
Hex totems aren't pointless at all in their current design. They're some of the strongest perks that are hard set into the meta to the point a buff is simply unnecessary. The fact that Ruin Undying can win you games entirely based on being slotted shows how unnecessary a buff would be.
Buffing actually weak perks nobody uses would be far better than dedicating more time and resources toward hexes.
You´re like 6+ months late for that statement. Undying Ruin is a trash combo that will lose you matches.
-
Just remove the glow effect from hex totems and the little sign that shows that you are affected by a hex perk.
Survivors will now have more incentives to cleanse dull totems. Which are in plain sight anyway, but since they usually are no threat, are ignored by most of the survivors.
Problem solved.
-
Yeah the hours played don´t really mean much. Since i´ve also seen a lot of smurfs these days. People that could loop perfectly and then they supposedly had like 30 hours in the game.

What you wrote contradicts itself. If the system is so poorly made that playing a couple of games well can permanently skyrocket you into sweatfests, it's a broken system and needs to be put in the garbage alongside any devs that thought it was a good idea.
But it doesn´t PERMANENTLY skyrockets you. If OP got carried by his friends and escaped far more matches than he deserved, over a prolonged time. Then the system will obviously give him a higher score.
Once he keeps losing, the score will lower and he finally will reach the point of his actual skill.
So that doesn´t contradict itself.

Maybe read again what i wrote.
-
The SBMMR works perfectly fine. At least for me. Playing both sides solo.
So maybe its a you problem. Maybe you did something in the past weeks that made the game give you a certain matchmaking score, so you get matched with players above your skill level.

The game has too many RNG and balance issues to have competitive matchmaking system.
The game isn't designed to be a competitive esport and SHOULD NOT try to be. Tournament DBD is a terrible goal for matchmaking and makes games boring as hell on both sides. Similar games (Evolve) failed in part due to the mentality of forcing comp play in this genre.
Well, they know how to create map tiles. So they know how to take the RNG away. A tournament mode could be perfectly balanced, IF the devs want to create one.

EDIT Plus the YouTube thumbnail is of a camera lens or something of the kind, leaning towards FNAF.
Now that i dug deeper, there are a ton of horror movies that released in that year. Even Predator.

new killers won't face camp because they're new. They're learning the game. As I have said, it's mostly the casuals, the ones that don't care about their ranks or how well they do in a match. They slap on BBQ, get their stacks, and off they go. The old system can be manipulated because all you had to do was rank or de-rank, a 6-year-old could figure it out. The new system will be the same way once someone and someone will have figured out how to do it and made a video to which all the other creators will do the same thing and then we'll be back to square 1 again.
Thats not how BBQ works though. Face camping killers won´t get any benefit from BBQ.
-
People that are against the SBMMR can be boiled down to 3 different types:
- Streamers
- 4 man SWF death squads
- derankers
All 3 have the same thing in common. They fear that they can´t stomp easier targets anymore. Since the first 2 would be constantly matched against each other, which would be a sweatfest (for them).
Everyone else will just benefit from the new system.

LOL, if they gen rush, they usually leave the totems alone...just bring no-ed. If they bring flashlights, bring franklins. How they play determines how I treat them. If they are toxic (t-bagging, refusing to participate in normal game-play, et.al.), I'll do my best to down 'em and sacrifice them. If they give good chases and what have you, I'll usually just two-hook and release...unless I have a challenge that requires sacrifices.
NOED isn´t worth taking tbh. Simply because even when they don´t touch totems during the whole trial, the chance of NOED spawning right next to the exit gate are surprisingly high. Can´t count the times that i heard the "thunderstruck" a mere seconds after all gens were completed. But lets say it spawns in a good spot. Then 1 of 2 things happens: you get 1 down/hook, it gets cleansed and they rescue the hooked survivor or you get 1 down/hook and they simply leave their teammate behind.
Flashlights are a thing. Yes, Lightborn helps but only when you see the flashlights coming. If they last second switch, than you won´t have time to equip it. The SWF teams that want to bully a killer will usually wait for the last second to prevent Lightborn.
Good for you if you 2 hook and let go. That way you will never pip but thats part of your solution, right?

No, I’m good. Everyone on this thread has made it clear the way to go is 4 meta perks + BMing the killer since nobody cares when it happens to me
I recommended you non meta builds which solve specifically the situation you struggle with. So its not "everyone".
Good luck then.

yeah i get how that works, but the issue i am having is, that i am not losing any games.
i consistently draw. i wont get better players because i cant beat the ones im having, but i wont get worse ones either because, technically speaking, they also didnt beat me.
and i am not enjoying a minute of those "balanced" matches ive been getting, because its extremely obvious that i am the only one in the entire lobby who is trying to take a casual approach here and the survivors are extremely sweaty. i am under constant pressure, because the second i make a single mistake i lose the match and even without mistakes i still have my gens pop left and right.
i want to play a computer game to avoid stress, not to get stressed out.
and i certainly wont be continuing to play one as stressfull and unfun as DbD currently is.
the only thing that has kept me playing for this long is, that i didnt have to put up with those sweatlords a majority of the time. and the few times i got them, i just shrugged it off and said "those people are a minority of players, the next games will go much better" - now that every single game is such a sweatfest, i am seriously considering just dropping the game. would be a shame for the 5k hours ive already put in it, but it would certainly do wonders for my mental health and attitude.
there are exactly two ways the devs could fight that:
1) stop trying to push MMR. its a stupid idea to try and push a competetive matchmaking system in a game that is everything but competetive.
2) seriously rethink their balance goals. because if what ive been getting is considered "perfectly balanced", then i can guarantee you that any killer who reaches that point is going to get tired of this game very quickly.
Well their balance goals are far off. I mean, just look at the "2 kills, 2 escapes" balance they aim for. Thats a depip for any red rank killer.
Thats also probably why they want to introduce this whole SBMMR. Because they see that their rank system doesn´t work at all.
In the end, the SBMMR will just be to the normal MMR what the Dedicated Servers are to the original P2P connection we had.

I agree for solo and for killer but not my main i should not get stomp like that i have 2 win and that because of NoeD and blood warden because i realise pop and ruin are worthless if they split up.
Im not joking in 20 game i thing i played haddonfield a total of 7 time and red forest 5 or 6 time the game are a pain and they last 5 minute if the survivor dont 99 the last 3 gen because they want to bully the killer a bit more.
Only way to "settle in" is to keep playing and losing. It sucks, but the system simply thinks that your skill level is to high.

Maybe some of us don’t want to use the 4 boring meta perks? But it’s fine, because of how awful the MMR games have been (camping killer every time), I’m putting on DS Unbreakable Sprint Burst Iron Will, because clearly the respect I give other players isn’t going to be reciprocated.
Then don´t use full meta and equip: Unbreakable, Flip-Flop, Powerstruggle and Tenacity.

It seems people don’t want a challenge when playing this game and would rather have matches where they can easily curb stomp their opponents.
All of my matches gave me teammates similar in skill and the killers I faced were more varied from the usual Wraith, Wraith, Spirt, Wraith, Blight, Wraith and Wraith selection that I normally get. Sure they still camp and tunnel, but now that my teammates don’t throw themselves at the hook, we actually escape rather than give the killer a 4K.
Exactly! It´s actually more enjoyable than what we had before. Right now i get competend survivors that can stand their ground, instead of teammates that disconnect/suicide on the first sight of the killer.

If you play solo survivor the sbmm is awesome but the second you play killer its really not you get stomp and map offering are the norm anyway this is how my game goes on my main. If i choose a killer im bad with i got really bad survivor and i stomp them its not even close. Honestly i will give it a bit more time probably 2 or 3 more hour but if my killer experience dont improve i drop killer for survivor and wait until the text is over before i play killer again.
But thats exactly how the system is supposed to work. Matching you against newer players, when you play a killer you have no experience with.
While matching you against players of your skill level, when you play with your main. You could use the time to learn a new killer or play with your main and let the system adapt. Once you get a couple of loses, it will match you against "weaker" survivors.

Okay and what am I gonna do when I’m getting tunnelled off hook with that build? Impossible to prepare for every toxic play style in this game.
There is a 4th perk slot left. Just fill it with DS. We have enough perks to prepare a build for every playstyle.
My curent build, for example is: Bond, WGLF, BT and IW.

well, ive pretty much had the same experience during the last MMR test aswell.
and ive played my fair amount of matches in those few hours, none of which were enjoyable even in the slightest.
i guess if you (not in you as a specific person, but you as in overall) really enjoy tryharding / play a lot of solo q, this is gonna be enjoyable for you. sadly, none of those apply to me.
Maybe your skill rating is higher than your actual skill. Just keep playing and the SBMM will place you with easier matches. After all, if you start losing, you will be placed against lower skill players, which will make it more enjoyable for you.

No offense taken. Even when i´m almost a survivor main (80/20).
It had to be said. The forum and after match comments were flooded with the "just apply pressure" messages. Some people simply didn´t think about what that could really mean. So here we are. Enjoying the beauty of doing exactly what survivors wanted us to do.
-
May i recommend using Unbreakable, if slugging bothers you that much?
-
Survivors gen rush and when the killer complaints, survivors tell him "just apply pressure".
Well, as a matter of fact, tunneling someout out early applies a TON of pressure.
So uhh THANK YOU! to all the survivors that recommended applying pressure. You really helped making this game a better place.

Why would the survivor get mad at it? Its a pvp game after all. Or would you get mad for getting killed in CoD?

when i give hatch i often get a "thanks killer" in aftergame chat, sometimes +rep on my steam profile.
It's true that survivors often aren't nice to bad killers while killers are at least a little bit more often nice to bad survivors. But there is also not much you can do as survivor except for letting yourself killed.
Not waiting at the exit gate to teabag the killer would be a start.

And when it doesnt go well.. we'll just have a thumb up our *ss with no idea why it's happening, since I know this is only from personal experience but my games have barely changed at all since it started still just as 4 out or 4k as before with survivors either being all extremely competent or not understanding that wraith can pick people out of lockers while cloaked
Well thats what those tests are for. To figure out of it goes well or not and adjust the algorythm accordingly.

Okay that's an example of a bad matchmaking system, how will we know if the current system isn't just as bad as that if we don't know how the system works and if they've made a good system it shouldn't be so easily and widely abusable
You should notice it, by having a more enjoyable and fun experience. Not just stomping new players or getting stomped by vets.

IF THE SCORES ARE MISMATCHED AS ######### AND THE MATCH GOES WELL THEN THE SCORE ISNT WORKING, VICE VERSA. Jesus f*cking Christ I have zero trust BHVR will make a good system and I don't trust them with some invisible score, imagine if current ranks were always kept hidden then we probably wouldn't be even getting this new matchmaking. Why is it so hard to understand that.
It has to stay hidden or people would find out how it works and manipulate it.
For example, the Victory Cube was an attempt of a different rank system. Once people figured out that 2 kills and 1 hook is a guaranteed pip, they started to camp the first survivor they found. Simply because those 2 kills + 1 hook were more important pip wise, than for example getting 8 hooks and 0 kills.
-
@gilgamer said:

Im not talking about the color ranks I'm talking about the SBMM score
What would you want to do with that? It´s probably some kind of abstract score that only the algorythm understands.
-
The ranks are hidden during this SBMM Test, because people used to complain about the ranks they were matched against. Despite the fact that the devs said ranks don´t matter.
Also ranks as we know them, will be completely removed (once the SBMM goes live) and replaced by a system that resets your "rank" each month to 20 and awards you for the "rank" that you reached that month. Ranks will simply be a measure of how much you played each month. Therefore there is no point in showing them.
-
@Rescultir said:

False, they will get face camped because that is what casual/new players do, mostly casuals. They are only focused on kills and not actual gameplay. I also didn't say there would be non-stop face camping I said for the majority of the time (around 5 hours) there might be but that depends on how long it takes for the MMR system to collect the data. Casual survivors also don't tend to rush gens as often as the higher ranks do, they go for the saves and because of that, it makes the killer camp especially when they think their objective is to just kill, which it is in a way but it's not the only objective but casuals don't care.
Wrong. Having a SBMM won´t suddenly spawn new killer players that only want to face camp. We had new, unsecure killers since the beginning of the game 5 years ago. Those new, casual killers will eventually learn that they earn way more points and have a more enjoyable match, when they don´t camp all the time.
The old system could be manipulated to easy. People would depip before free weekends to stomp new players. This will stop once the new MMR goes live.
-
@Rescultir said:
It won't matter, you're still going to get the face campers with the MMR system anyway. Almost every game for a casual/new player will be a killer camping or tunneling and instead of being able to move out of that rank quickly, the system has to gather information to move you up or down in the system, and who knows how long that'll take. So if you're playing 5 hours against face camping killers and nothing has changed, then what? Whereas the old system, you could just rank and hope for the best. If you're on PC, I would recommend turning cross-play off, it's a much better experience but more challenging.
No, this is not how the SBMMR will work for new players. They won´t get non stop face campers. So please don´t try to scare new players with this kind of claims.
On a side note, when there are such a high amount of face campers, than another problem is the root cause of that: killers feeling helpless because of the gen speeds.
-
So far its okay. My first survivor matches have been a little rough (with people disconnecting/suiciding). But then things began to get smoother.
-
I´ve had a little bit of everything on both sides.
But since the forum is full of complaints from both killers and survivors. I´d say the system works fine but still has to settle people according to their skill level.
