Its called proxy camping because you are camping their location by proxy. Not directly, but rather the overall area around it. Its a concept thats existed since people in arena based fps used it for defending areas where resources (re)spawn around the map. It just means to pressure an area while not being directly in the center of it and instead hovering around its fringes (aka defending the reward within it "by proxy")
People can misuse it and apply connotations to it all they want, but it both exists as a concept and is a valid strategic option.
well yeah I'm proxy camping the map we are in. You know because I do patrol it. I'm proxy camping the whole map since I go after survivors and I don't leave the game I suppose. Every place is proxy camped because I will go (or return) where I believe there are people to be found. My proxy camp covers the map.

Why are you arguing with me? I literally just defended proxy camping as a valid strategy, and one that deserves no negative connotation.
Oh I'm not arguing with you at all. I am talking about this made up stuff they named now "proxy camping" I just find it ridiculous that OP comes up with new words. But I heard many nonsense over the years. like "gen camping" "slug camping" . Now it's "proxy camping" meaning.... not even in the area, but why is the killer coming back at all? haha He should stay away! ignore those noise notifications which are deliberate part of the game to signal survivor activity, he shouldn't play the game as intended because otherwise no matter what the killer does, it's some sort of camping :))
I simply find the name of this behavior ridiculous, and I'm making fun of OP "proxy camping" lol

Proxy camping is a real thing, though I honestly think the distinction is most important because it shows how fair it is compared to something like face camping. You're not defending the hook the survivor is on specifically, but more the area of the map it is located at. The reason is obviously because of the pressure the hooked survivor provides, but the objective is to locate and cut off people who approach rather than try to force that person to stay there until they die (and is usually done for the purpose of finding a new target to transfer said pressure to, rather than giving it up entirely by just roaming.) I also only usually see proxy campers circle back to the hook if they're following someone, or the hook state is about to roll over and they want to confirm it before moving away. If someone was/is running a perk like BBQ and see no auras after the hook, its literally the logical choice for them to do.
If anything, I think specifying camping as proxy camping is admitting that its a more reasonable strategy. Anyone who tries to use it to group that kind of play with things like hitting people on the hook and nodding is just looking for things the other side succeeds at to complain about. Generally its just a product of frustration at having their save attempt be denied "and then getting tunneled" because the killer commits.
there is no actual proxy camping, people make nonsense up. We are talking about INTENDED part of the game by design. Why do you think there is a yellow aura around the hook with a hooked survivor? Why do you think there is a LOUD noise notification FOR the killer when somebody is unhooked? It's part of the game we play it's part of signals killer use which direct them where they can go to find survivors. The killer is simply playing the game as intended

I swear to god… it’s just non-stop. Like 70% of my games are Wesker and they ALL either clearly proxy camp the hook or they loose proxy camp by leaving but as soon as the unhook happens they shoot back directly to the hook to either tunnel or get a cheap hit on the rescuer. I take my 4% chances on all of these games. It’s just no fun.
there is no such thing as "proxy camping" stop making things up. I swear everything is camping for some of you guys. if the killer is not even in the area then it's proxy camping. No matter what, if the killer doesn't go somewhere else where there are no survivors, then it is CAMPIIIING lol give me a break.
Some people come up with all sort of nonsense :)) Not long ago some guy blamed me for "gen camping" because why did I COME BACK to a gen I previously kicked??? Gen campeeer haha.
If you don't RUN away from survivors instead of after them, no matter what you do, it counts as camping for some of these people.

In what circumstances would slugging now lead to more time bought than hooking?
in each circumstance where you can reach the next survivor in a short time.

I'm a Forced Penance+Agitation enjoyer on a lot of killers as it is. Bully squads have a very hard time with it
it's not like bully squads are actually problematic even now. They are quite weak anyway, and you only lose of you get angry. I mean they waste too much time dancing around you, instead of doing gens.... But probably they will risk it less if insta kill can get them. Or who knows? We just have to wait and see
-
@TAG said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3200737#Comment_3200737
Isn't that less time bought than just hooking the Survivor, though? At least then, a second Survivor has to go in for the rescue (assuming no kobe). With slugging, no one has to get off the gen.
probably really depends on the playstyle. for example I slug which I consider buying time in case I'm well aware where some or most of the rest of the survivors are, which helps me chase and down sooner. If I don't know where the others are or they are quite far away, I just hook the downed survivor.
Well I have been playing quite a bit Onryo lately and after downing (provided that I knew where some of the others are) I teleported to them and attacked the next one. Which is still faster than wasting time with hooks before I down somebody else who I know where he is. After hooking I will see what happens with the first slugged one (or if 45 seconds wore out and got up).
-
@RpTheHotrod said:

Killers aren't buying time if no one is bothering to use up their team to get them up. They will just continue to work on gens.
well get ready for even longer 4k slugging session while the killer is chasing the last 2 survivors around and not hooking either of them
well that's already buying time. a survivor is disabled for 45 seconds, while the killer is currently playing against fewer survivors. If they work on gens, that's good. That's their job, and killer's job to find the rest also. I would for example slug one and hook the second downed. Time is a resource.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I'm having a hard time seeing where this becomes hugely problematic. 45 seconds is a long time to be in a 3v1. If you're being forced to slug, 99% of the time it's because you have an immediate chase option and those are situations where you wouldn't be picking up/hooking anyway. They're typically easy wins when teams try to gang up around the killer.
yeah it sorta makes it quite risky to dance around the killer and take protection hits also :) I like that part

It wasn't because people constantly slugged, its because it would become the main way to kill off survivors with the new mori mechanic.
lmao
Yeah pretty much. They added that because the killer now can insta kill multiple survivors if he's good enough and downs a few fast enough, (including last man standing). When it comes to 4k slugging, it doesn't do much, because last 2 will not be allowed to leave anyway, and this time they will not even be able to bleed out easilly
-
As a killer I am completely fine with unbreakable basekit. It simply removes the possibility of the survivor bleeding out and dying too soon if I can't find other survivors when I slug someone. So no worries. He's down for 45 seconds anyway.
-
one mori per match aside of killer basekit moris like Tormented Mori for Pyramid Head and so on

I understand, but this is super boring for the game, with which killer are you going to do it? with the Myers? with the trapper?
Obvius with the nurse and TOPS killers. My idea of mori was not this.
I'm not sure. We will see it in the game, I suppose. Not every killer was good at everything before this change either. So in that regards it will not change the fact that there might be underperforming killers. But probably this makes things a bit more interesting if you are able to pull it. Probably we will see an increase of detection perks after this

"Slugging is both a valid strategy and commonly a required strategy for the killer to win"
well, not anymore LOLOLOL
Slugging was always used by killers to buy time, and this change doesn't affects that much. They will buy time with it. and slugging at the last 2 survivors in the game becomes even rewarding since if the killer downs one while another is slugged he instantly kills both of them
-

This ALMOST never happens, only with TOP killers and depending on the survis you face.
yeah instant 4 kills would be a long stretch but last 2 killed this way will happen more often.
-
Read it again man... Mori the last STANDING survivor. Not necessarily the last survivor in the game. so for example if you are able to slug one or more you can mori the last survivor who was standing and the rest are sacrificed by the entity no matter what they do. If they couldn't get up before you downed the last one. I find it an entertaining dynamic and I can't wait to try these out.

So even you bring Unbreakable, you can't pick up yourself before 45 seconds? Can you please make this clear.
correct.
According to them the way I read it, Unbreakable will be changed only to give you recovery speed for others to pick you up faster. But getting up on your own will remain 45 seconds
"Unbreakable: Now increases dying self-recovery speed by 80/90/100%" That's all it does as I read it.

Just hook them, literally 45 seconds is more than enough time to relish your moment, just hook them
it depends on the playstyle. It's still the killer's choice to hook them or not, and disabling them for 45 seconds is plenty in most cases. And of course the slugged guy can be downed again later.

Very very healthy for the game!
Was one of my remaining gripes, slugging for the 4k has always felt like such a hollow victory, but was so easy to do why wouldnt any killer do it?
Probably will do nothing against slugging for 4k. Example. I slug 1 guy and look for another. I prefer the slugged guy to not bleed out while I find another, because that would open the hatch. So if it takes too long, the slugged guy being autosaved from death actually helps. They aren't getting out anyway. And in case I do find the other, before the first one gets up, I can simply return to hook the first guy first. At least it gives it a bit of a fun dynamic, but it wouldn't remove the ability to slug for 4 kills at all. until 2 are alive there will be no hatch anyway.
-
Well it's a huge problem that the game doesn't have any ingame cheat detection and only relies on EAC
-
Well it's hard not to camp if EVERYTHING is considered camping in any game where survivors lose :)) Try to not camp according to their personal opinions
-
@Reddy said:
I play for 1-2 months and I got red rank last month, and I didn't meet even one cheater. What do you have to do to meet them?
Stick around for a longer time. You are a beginner. It's unlikely to meet them in your particular MMR bracket, but the rest of us do quite often
-
When gates are powered up or EGC is even started, stop hooking them, just slug them. you might catch even more during that time of they are trying hard to save others. And you don't need to deal with reassurance or BT. Just slug, chase others, harm as many as you can, it becomes riskier and riskier to try to go for a save, and you can end up with 3 or maybe even 4 people hooked instead of 1 if they are too pushy. So exit gates powered: start slugging. They opened it and started Endgame Collapse? even better, they are running out of time to save eachother
-
The examples you gave there are not actual exploits, you are just trying out the mechanics of the game itself. Like for example chasing survivors moving backwards to trick them with your red stain isn't an exploit either.
When it comes to ACTUAL exploits:
Exploit and report anything you can on PTB. That's what Public tests are for, to identify and correct problems. To be safe don't "try" exploits on the live game, just report them if you know about any.

I regret doing it even if a lot of people use them and they told me that now nothing bad can happen about this. Can someone make me so that I am not scared anymore? I don't want to lose my progress and I want to still enjoy playing the game without freaking out. Everyday I think of that and it's been almost a year
the devs already answered this. The answer basically was. They are NOT encouraging you to do this, because if EAC picks up at any point your changed files, and autoban you, the BHVR team will NOT unban you. Not a case of they can't, but they will not. So as they said "do this at your own risk"

We've all see a recent bandwagon of these streamers protesting DBD for a supposed cheater epidemic.
I'm sorry, but this isn't affecting the community as a whole. A recent poll on Reddit showed that a overwhelming majority have not seen an increase in cheaters and most people have only seen 1 or 2 cheaters in thousands of hours of gameplay.
You all have been making some great improvements in the last few years, please keep going and don't get distracted by the few who are abusing their influence for their own personal gain. Please do what benefits the entire community, not the 1%.
there is a cheater problem and increasingly so. The only reason to defend it is if you are a cheater yourself. There is a huge problem right now, and my guess is that most problems are tied to free DbD game giveaways, since cheaters basically cheat without any drawback, they don't need to buy a new game each time they are caught. And YES it must be addressed. ASAP. Because while each multiplayer game does have occasional cheaters here and there, DbD stand out at this moment with it's cheating occurrence. And it does harm the game.

the "killer" isn't doing anything, its the survivor that griefed you that did something.
When killers do this to me I run to a gen and work on it, then if they get the message I'll bleed out and the other survivor has to unfortunately hide for 4 minutes.
Well in this case they sort of work together. It doesn't work if the killer also doesn't play along and simply kills the guy who tries to be a smartass selling out teammates just to troll them. Both are equally guilty. Since the killer doesn't attack the survivor and just follows him to sell out his team mate. Just the survivor is technically guilty of griefing since he shouldn't work together with the killer to begin with, no matter what the killer does.
-
As killer I haven't seen it doing it either personally. Or maybe I have seen, it but I just didn't care much where some idiot is pointing at, and downed him, and hooked him :)) I didn't think much of it in case that actually happened, if it did.

Well unfortunately I never record my gameplay because... well idk how.
I understand you, I don't either. I'm not a streamer, nor I record much. I play games because I love playing games, not watching games. So for the sake of recording I have put up FRAPS (get an unlocked version of it otherwise the video is limited to 30 seconds), and I used that. Also windows 10 has some capture function, that I never used. Also there is Nvidia Shadow Play. But I simply used fraps because I'm familiar with it and it's lightweight. Just set the video recording preferences to not end up with a huge video file. And in game when you want to start recording just hit F9 to start recording and F9 again to stop recording.
But otherwise I'm not so hot on doing it either, and I rarely did it for example when 2 survivors held the game hostage for a long time hiding and not helping anybody. And I wasted enough time looking for them, in the end I recorded it and reported them
-
3-4 kills. preferably 4.
-
Survivor working actively with the killer counts as griefing and you can report it.
-
I only want her directional lullaby removed while demanifested. I don't mind the rest of her less than spectacular kit
-
No. Killers use 4 perks, survivors use 16 combined. among which at least 8 is gen rush perk most of the time
-
Sadako. Well I play her a lot really, I'm just really bothered by her directional lullaby. I don't mind her other weaknesses really, just they made her a stealth killer who isn't a stealth killer

@shiroo said:

Hmmm...I wonder why do they do that?
Probably because the killer was camping the hook and they got injured while trying to unhook.
Stop pretending like tanking a hit with BT would change anything. Since you were already camping the hook, you'd most likely go for the same survivor anyway.
Not at all. you hook someone, and you chase the next person you can find, right?
That's what the killer is supposed to do. Usualy the next guy is sprinting full speed towards the hook in my games and I follow, unhooks and I get the unhooked survivor running towards me. Don't make excuses for them. Then of course if I hit the survivor trying to body block with his free protection, then he will 100% get back on the hook, and they usually cry a lot in the endgame about tunneling, which doesn't bother me at all. The way I see it, people will call out camping and tunneling far more oftan than it actually happens. Usually every time they lose the game because it hurts their ego admitting they aren't actually that good. Oh and here I even heard a new thing "proxy camping" :)) basically everything is a camping even if you are not even in the area
People make up the funniest things. Anyway, we all play by the rules of the game, it's pointless to try to come up with new ones which have nothing to do with the game. The devs added base BT to help getting away. If they use it to body block, it's their problem really. And tunneling is perfectly fair then, since they aren't actually running away, so it's on them.
-

now there is such a thing as "proxy camping" also?
-
@kaeru said:
Basekit protection gives a decent 7% speedboost for 10 seconds to get into safe place. But when survivors use it to bodyblock they straigh up asking to be tunneled.
In my opinion it's much harder to tunnel when unhooked survivor runs away instead of trying to protect his rescuer.
I was always saying that best antitunneling perk is Sprint Burst. When you hooked you always have exhaustion off. If you still feel tunneled, try to use Sprint Burst instead of DS or DH.
this
and yeah survivors quite often use base BT to body block instead of running away. It happens like all the time. And if they happen to get hit again, 100% they will be chased down again and hooked. It's far easier for the killer to go after the rescuer instead of dealing with the base BT, but if the unhooked survivor makes it difficult, who is to blame...
-
what a boring topic. It's like some sort of crying corner for those who can't handle the stress of playing a..... videogame?? lol
-
well one of the worse thing devs did to the game was allowing free giveaway of DbD on Epic store. Cheaters aren't that worried about bans if they have 100 more game accounts to play around with. without it costed money each time they got caught
-
I think 0 cooldown would still be fair and not OP. You have to down someone anyway for the gen to explode and it's a one time deal until you kick gens again and manage to successfully chase and down someone again

Why do they have to be like that?
scary....killler....must....wait...for....hatch...in....the.... locker
By the way, it's not the killer wasting time in that case, if the survivor is hiding instead of doing objectives like gens or helping out teammates it's on them, they are wasting time. The killer is doing his job.

incentives are dynamically applied for the needed role based on the player population at a given time. It has nothing to do with making people playing different roles. It's a reward for playing a needed role to help reducing lobby times. And it works as intended.

Hi,
I don't usually like to complain because I understand that being a developer for a game is a lot of work and effort to cater to everybody and everything that people want. However, being (most of the time) a soloq/2man survivor player, I can't play this game anymore. I have 2k hours, own a tiktok with over 15k likes and a Twitch channel just because of DBD, yet the game has grown to a state where it makes me feel 10x worse after playing than it did beforehand.
Killers are tunnelling all the time, I see the same few killers every single game and survivors just can't compete with all the stuff killers have these days. I don't necessarily blame killers for playing strong killers (because those like Pig, Ghostface etc are just boringly weak).
However I played 7 matches today with my friend, and we both have over 2k hours. ALL of those matches the killer got 4 kills and mostly ended by hitting on hook and nodding. I don't go around clicking my flashlight at them, I do gens and save when I need to, and I can loop the killer for a good few minutes, yet even then the match ends at 1/2 gens with all being dead.
I don't appreciate the excuse 'just get good' because I can loop and I can be useful during matches; with 2k hours of course I'm going to have some idea of how to do that. But nowadays, when a killer even just gets looped, they take it as a personal offence and tunnel you out and hit/nod at you. It's tiring and sad because I used to enjoy this game on both sides (I still agree that killers should have gotten the buff they did in the past), but now playing survivor against these killers just feels so punishing and leaves you feeling like there's no chance to win at all.
I'm going to stop playing because this game just feels like it's at a point where its stale and more toxic than ever. Thanks for reading and again, sorry that this post had to be so whiney and complainative, but I just had to say my opinion and viewpoint before I left. <33
well bye. Games are entertainment, not a job. You don't need to forward your resignation.

You find SWF comms cheating & you're telling me I'm ridiculous. My man,you just don't have any friends to play with
no I do have friends and occasionally play. I'm just not blind to not realize that telling eachother the killer's position the entire game isn't something the game is generally designed around. That's what aura reading perks exist for. It's not like the killer is told teh survivor's position by his friends. Which is why when it comes to global balancing SoloQ falls short since as SWF we do have unfair advantage, and teh game isn't balanced separately for groups of players, types of players, or regions based on pickrates. It's balanced ONLY around global stats. So if you complain about hardship of SoloQ compared to SWF, you have your answer right there
