  • Across which platforms with cross-progression enabled? And when did this start?

I completed a few quests on PS4 yesterday and then moved over to Nintendo Switch, and the progress remained the exact same between the two platforms. So this is either platform specific, is limited to a select number of accounts, or only started today.

Normal gameplay killers have to keep track of 12 hook states at any given time

Yes, this is generally how I play as well. I genuinely don't find this to be that difficult.

I'm also trying to keep track of where I've seen survivors, which gens they're working on (and likely where they can be expected to go back to), and usually which perks I've seen. I can usually extrapolate who is going for rescue,

I still don't think that this is an unreasonable amount of information to handle, even admitting that I do make mistakes and have gotten it wrong. If I'm playing for hooks, then I'm already focusing on having a fun match (for everyone) and ideally the game should still be fun even if survivors aren't escaping.

This game has some of the most easily tracked and telegraphed information of most of the PVP games I've played.

I genuinely don't find this to be that difficult.

Everyone struggles with different things. Not everyone is going to find it easy to keep track of that info. Some matches I'm fine and other matches I struggle to keep track, especially when survivors reach second state on their first hook. It depends on how much other stuff is going on in the match or in my life at any given time as to just how much I'm able to focus.

But just because one person is good at a particular thing or finds it easy doesn't mean that applies to everyone. Otherwise, everyone with the same amount of time would perform at the exact same level.

Survivors get the info. It'd be nice for killers to get the info as well, because like I said above, not having that info means it is so much easier on a person's brain to tunnel because you only have to keep track of one survivor, not four. The game is designed so that tunneling is the easiest most intuitive way to play, because nothing in the game assists the killer with not tunneling.

  • @YamamuraVideoRentals said:

Killers are going to tunnel regardless, and they don't need a hook counter to do it. It's a bullcrap argument to say this is what the majority of killers would use it for and it would only encourage more tunneling. But either way. It's a huge quality of life thing that should have been in the game for BOTH sides ever since it was added only for survivors.

Killers are going to tunnel regardless, and they don't need a hook counter to do it. It's a bullcrap argument to say this is what the majority of killers would use it for and it would only encourage more tunneling.

I never understand that argument when people make it. Tunneling killers only need to keep track of one survivor: the one they're tunneling. It's killers who juggle all four survivors who struggle to keep track, especially when survivors like to save teammates just as they hit second state.

It is so much easier if I stop trying to juggle four survivors and just go after one. It's much less stressful to not try to keep track of all that information; it's practically playing without thinking. I would never even glance at a hook counter if I were tunneling.

  • if you want to take the training wheels off and accept the full brunt of responsibility of having bad aim, you should be able to do so

Aim dressing does not fix bad aim. Aim dressing is not aim assist. Here is a dev's explanation:

    aim-dressing.png

If this dev's explanation is correct, aim dressing will never help the killer. It can only cost the killer hits they otherwise would have gotten.

Every killer would opt to turn off aim dressing, because killers don't care if a hit "looks" like it connected: they just want it to actually connect. Survivors care how it looks. Aim dressing is for survivors.

So far I'm only seeing PS5 players with this issue so it might be a PS5 issue. I was able to get mine done and I'm on a different console. I think they said that this should be fixed on Tuesdays hotfix the frustrating part is you will have to start then for the stuff to count towards them.

Happens on PS4, too. So perhaps a PlayStation issue.

Yeah, I did catch that. Hope that it will be soon.

I just want the old challenges to stay in the game.

I just want the old challenges to stay in the game.

Same. The challenges should stick around forever.

The Compendium is the closest thing the game has to a story mode: pathways of (sometimes themed) challenges with rewards. If it's not attached to the Rift, BHVR can update it less often and focus on characters and lore, quality of quantity. It's an important part of the game, it's a large amount of content for new players to work through to keep them interested in playing. Getting rid of something that provides a rewarding experience for players that they can do at their own pace would be a mistake.

My 2V8 Teammates are almost always the best and very Altruistic.

The only bad Teammates I get are trolls, people who like to just ruin the match. For example, immidetley dropping shack pallet when we load in and spam vault it or bodyblockers. I get one about every 8 matches.

Overall though, I get smart players who make good decisions, loop very well and are Altruistic.

I'm actually having fun as Survivor (I always do in 2v8) because I'm not playing SoloQ anymore until this new Go Next prevention is implemented.

I played one Regular game today as Freddy. I literally had a Leon begin slamming every pallet he came across as soon as the match started and a Kate give up on 1st hook.

Anyway, I hope you have better luck next week if you're doing the challenges.

Overall though, I get smart players who make good decisions, loop very well and are Altruistic.

I'm glad you're getting good matches. I get sandbaggers, people who save in the killer's face or who save and then refuse to heal, lots of teammates who won't touch gens. It's like 1v4 but with more.

Anyway, I hope you have better luck next week if you're doing the challenges.

    Thank you :)

  • We can't even get BHVR to put the ping indicator back in the lobby so we can avoid high ping matches.

When the queue gets long, the game will actually put people on a different server. Doesn't tell them, doesn't give them a choice. It's happened to me a couple times where I was put on a different server and multiple people in the match had pings over 1k, including me. It was unplayable and I would've absolutely dodged if BHVR gave any indication of what the ping was going to be like.

  • BHVR did a poll/survey. It said something along the lines of, "Hey, we're working on a way to make 2v8 queue times better, but it won't be ready until summer. Would you like to have 2v8 return in May, anyway?" And people voted yes, they wanted 2v8 to return sooner rather than later.

    The players chose it. Knowingly.

The "fix" for 2v8 queue times is scheduled for later in the summer. Killers will supposedly be able to queue up and play survivor while they wait, preserving their place in the killer queue line.

  • I turned the game off as soon as I finished the quest challenges. 2v8 survivor teammates are the worst.

  • I feel the Tomes were better in basically every way.

BHVR should've kept the Tomes, kept the path of gameplay-changing challenges, and each Tome level would also have a collection of milestone-type challenges that require doing normal gameplay stuff like generators and hooks, and the player would always be working towards those milestones as long as that Tome level is selected. The best of all worlds, the Tomes would've been kept, and players would be encouraged not throw for a single challenge because they have the grindy milestone challenges at the same time.

I've been playing the Quests and the challenges just aren't fun like this. Knowing we're losing the Compendium at some point for this… ugh.

Oh I like your builds! They have little twist here and there. Perks most killers wouldn't really expect and if all goes terribly wrong at least the killer gets a little song out of it LOL.

That little song has saved my life so many times lol.

Pebble is meme-y, but it's so wonderful when it works that I feel naked without it, now. I can't believe how many times I've been able to legitimately save my ass throwing pebbles. It's also great for making a killer laugh when they're staring straight at you in your pathetic hiding spot. And playing fetch with puppies.

  • I used to run Botany, Empathy, Self Care, and Bardic Inspiration. It's good in solo queue for helping teammates, healing myself when teammates won't heal me, and surprising killers with a song. My friend still runs this build.

These days, I run Pebble, Bardic Inspiration, and Plot Twist. The fourth perk is usually Mirrored Illusion, but sometimes I run Any Means Necessary or Plunderer's Instinct instead.

My main was Ada for a long time, but lately I've changed it up a bit by throwing Cheryl and the cultist, Taurie, into the mix.

  • I miss Beast of Prey and Distressing. Earning Hunter isn't so bad, but Deviousness gains suck on a lot of killers. My build used to be Beast of Prey, Distressing, Deadlock, and Lightborn. My Lazy BP Build.

I haven't played killer much since the BP boosts were taken off those perks.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/445187/auto-aim-controller-feature-on-mouse-and-keyboard

They claim the game has no auto-aim feature, no matter what input device is used.

I imagine what you're talking about is the Aim Dressing messing with ya. They claim that it doesn't grant or take away hits you wouldn't have gotten anyway, just visually cleans up the animation so it looks more like a hit through the latency and for survs as well. Again, so they claim.

All I know is my beloved Piggly Wiggly has many a bent blade from survs doing something weird in front of me with short and long lunges seeming to register differently. Happens a lot in tight spaces for me.

I'll smack the wall, a tree, that chest over there, or even thin air, anything besides the surv when this happens. Imo the Aim Dressing gets confused at those spots.

They claim that it doesn't grant or take away hits you wouldn't have gotten anyway

It can, however, take away hits the player should have gotten:

    aim-dressing.png

(The above image is a screen cap of a post from a BHVR dev, in case it's unclear.)

So yeah, aim dressing doesn't do anything that benefits the killer. It makes the game look nicer, which is definitely more for the survivor's benefit, because survivors care if a hit looks like it connected whereas killers just want their hit to actually connect.

  • Completing quests does not feel rewarding. It's not only about BP or Fragments (though they are low): the quests are boring, they auto-accept, they give no sense of working towards a goal.

The Quest system has no longevity. What I mean is, it has no purpose outside of the Rift. It's gone when the Rift ends. It has the annoying (and currently broken?) "finish # weeklies" challenges that reward badges/banners, which require a lot more work from players and people are forced to do it on the game's time, as far as has been stated there will be no Compendium entry to earn those later. Earning charms in the Tome was much, much better. Choosing paths, having themes, being able to bank rewards and play on my own timetable, I value those elements.

I thought I would value completing multiple challenges in a single match, but really all it does is minimize any feeling of accomplishment or importance. I never wanted a complete rework of the system. If I were interested in playing DbD Mobile, I would've played DbD Mobile. I'm not, I didn't.

I like the Tomes as their own thing, outside the Rift. They were the closest thing this game had to a story mode. If I'm bored I can pick some weird killer challenge from 50 moons ago and give myself a fresh, reward-earning goal. The Tomes were not just a way to earn Rift Fragments or BP, that was part of their purpose but they had their own identity within the game.

It's unlikely there will be any new glyph challenges. The Compendium is going to be removed at some point, so my Pustula Plant will go. This update just makes me sad. The Tomes and events have been my reasons for playing. The Tomes have kept me amused when I otherwise had no reason to turn the game on. And the Quest system veers away from everything that made me want to play.

  • "Well, players can complete multiple challenges in a single trial, now, so there's no reason to value the time they spend playing our game."

That feels like the direction some of these challenges are taking. Because in terms of reward for time spent, that's just baffling.

  • This Quest system is so boring. I just wanted a couple tweaks to the Tomes, not a complete rework that throws the Tomes in the trash. Unless BHVR scraps this and brings back the Tomes, I'm not sure I'm going to stick with DbD.

The milestones suck for anyone who mostly plays one side or only plays casually. I don't play killer much anymore, and when I do I really don't want to be killing. And I'm not really having fun as survivor: if I get to the end of the match I don't want to offer up a mori because I need the escapes. This is killing my enjoyment and desire to play. The normal gameplay loop gets old fast, it was changing it up and memeing that made it fun.

The paltry amount of Rift fragments rewarded for playtime/XP is frustrating as well.

I'm at tier 21. For the most part, I play a match a day to do the dailies, and then I turn it off and ask myself, "Why am I still bothering?" I guess I just want to see if BHVR realizes this boring, unrewarding (in terms of fragments, BP, and any sense of accomplishment) quest system is another step towards a generic mobile-game looking product. Which is a bad thing. Does BHVR think people paid for a PC/console game but were secretly hoping for a free-to-play mobile game?

Anyway, to me the Tomes gave a certain sense of accomplishment. Even when the Tome challenges were annoying, they did change things up. And I love the Compendium. The only thing the Quest system does better than the Tomes is completing multiple challenges at once, which after a week of playing the game I can say doesn't matter much. Turns out, it also really kills any sense of accomplishment. Huh, looking at it that way, I guess everything about the Quest system is worse than the Tomes.

  • For anyone who needs to see it in action to understand it, here's the video I used to learn to do it:

I hope they tweak a bit.

Not sure if it is better than the Tomes.

I just wanted to select more than one challenge - with the old Tomes. A complete rework wasn´t necessary.

This is exactly how I feel. I wanted to be able to work on multiple challenges at once. I did not want a complete overhaul. So many things about this patch work to destroy the game's identity. I preferred the old Tomes, inadequacies and all, to this generic uninteresting mobile-game-looking Quest system. Working on multiple challenges at once is nice, but it's not worth this. Especially not when the challenges can be summed up as "stop having fun and hunker down on the objectives."

I've experienced doing multiple challenges at once, now. I'm over it. I'd like the old Tomes back.

  • Every time I find a "green" medkit in a chest I have to tell myself "It's a yellow medkit." Oh! A green toolbox. No, wait, it's a yellow toolbox.

Almost no one referred to these things by rarity. Changing the colors makes such a mess of all the old tutorials and guides. And the colors are so same-y. There's no contrast. I don't even have color blindness, so this has to be awful for people who do.

I'm not dismissing anything. PC players are not your enemies. Suggesting that console and PC are separated so that console players don't have to deal with cheaters the same way PC players have to is crazy to me. We should be asking so that the console experience is directly improved by more optimization and even some little QoL advantages (like the aim assist system for Overwatch console players, which for obvious reasons only console players get). We should also be asking BHVR to improve the report system so that it's easier to get cheaters banned, and to implement a stronger anti-cheat so that we don't have to manually report every cheater. PC players are sick and tired of cheaters too, and separating PC from console solves nothing. This anger y'all are directing towards PC players solely for playing on PC as if we're all cheaters (we are not) should instead be directed at BHVR for not solving both the rampant cheater epidemic and the console performance issues once and for all.

We should be asking so that the console experience is directly improved by more optimization and even some little QoL advantages

We have been. For years. Not only does BHVR not do it, they have gone backwards on QoL issues, removing button shortcuts that console players used constantly. Performance gets worse with a lot of patches. They don't fix things, they don't optimize. They can't even be bothered to add the dead zone and response curve settings for controller that we've been begging for.

Don't turn this into console vs PC. This is console vs BHVR. We're frustrated. We're angry. Killers are rarely designed with console in mind. Game performance suffers. Controller input lag makes the low fps issues worse. People have been asking for console-only cross-play since cross-play was added, it's not a new request. There seems to be about a .00001% chance it'll ever be a thing, because I don't think BHVR has ever even acknowledged us when we bring it up.

This community is so cooked that now we have "Us vs Them" discourse about PC and console lol.

The PC vs console war has been going on since the beginning of time. It existed before killer vs survivor, before these forums, and before DbD; it'll contine to be fought long after this game dies.

I've been on forums for other games, and I've seen other players on console say that they sacrifice PC performance and the precision of KB&M for the lack of cheaters on console. It's not a new sentiment, and it's not specific to DbD. It's not PC vs console, either: it's a statement of what part of their gaming experience they value more. In DbD, we get the worst of both worlds. There is no benefit to being on console. We pay just as much as everyone else (and before the price adjustments we paid more) for the worst experience BHVR can provide.

I doubt you'd get flak from that. Just don't run No Mither and you'll be fine

It's not uncommon to be sandbagged for using Plot Twist (the worst is when they run to me in chase and point). I've also had survivors sandbag me or even grief me because they saw me playing the lute. Last week I had two matches where a survivor body blocked me for cleansing a totem. Not everyone's so judge-y, but unfortunately there are survivors who are going to dodge meme builds. The really bad thing is that BHVR will probably never change how backfill works, so a single lobby dodger can ruin the match.

As annoyed as I get at No Mither teammates who crouch around the outskirts all match (my friend still runs Empathy), I do feel bad any David going for their adept is going to have to last-second switch and hope no one notices.

  • Another issue is that endgame mori feels completely meaningless if you mori bots 99% of the time.

The mori is for the killer. You have no idea if the person is even still watching when you do it (before the abandon feature, I saw streamers who would tab out the moment they were downed). If the survivor wants to move on, what's it matter.

Also, there's a Milestone quest to finish a certain number of trials. I haven't tested it out or anything, but with that wording, I would think abandoning the match won't count towards it. Anyone know for sure about this one?

There are not only console players there, so what do you mean console players can't use filters so no one else can? Also, this game can be played on computers just saying

I dunno about the other people who were part of the console-only conversation, but I for one wasn't talking about taking anything away from PC. We were focusing on console, and giving console players console-only cross-play. We just want to separate ourselves from PC. We don't care what PC players do if we're not forced to play with them. Right now, turning off cross-play means we don't get matches.

In this fantasy land where console players get console-only cross-play, PC players would get what many have often claimed they want, which is no more console teammates.

IMO what BHVR really needs to do is put in a first person-view for Killer in the Shop. Since this is what the Killer sees in the end. And if a weapon is overly big, people can at least report it and dont buy it, just to not wanting to use it afterwards.

Agreed. I only know the weapon's borked because I saw some streamers using it and complaining, so I've known better than to purchase it. I'd think anyone who buys it blind would be furious.

We can see moris in the shop; it's time to show the killer's POV, too.

Dont forget that one Wraith-Weapon which covers like half the screen.

Unless BHVR fixed it at some point, Huntress's Mordeo outfit has the same problem. A real damn shame since the cosmetics are linked. I mostly avoid linked sets, anyway, but I'm definitely never getting something that frustrating. Oof.

Tbh I'd want a perk that hides my aura from teammates but the killer is still able to see me, as you said sometimes your teammates are the real killers lmao.

Even playing killer here and there I see this and like you seriously lead me to your injured teammate? I wont hook them if I hit them since I dont tunnel and that is the rare circumstance I slug so someone else gets them up.and go for the sandbagger.

Tbh I'd want a perk that hides my aura from teammates but the killer is still able to see me, as you said sometimes your teammates are the real killers lmao.

Sometimes I'd really, really like survivors not to see my aura if I use Plot Twist. The killer having Deer Stalker? Fine; I reserve the right to complain loudly to myself, but yeah, they countered my perk. My teammates bringing the killer to me, however, is beyond frustrating.

The day my teammates stop killing me will probably be the day DbD hangs up its hat and shuts off its servers.

Even playing killer here and there I see this and like you seriously lead me to your injured teammate? I wont hook them if I hit them since I dont tunnel and that is the rare circumstance I slug so someone else gets them up.and go for the sandbagger.

Yeah, I try not to let sandbaggers get away with it: maybe I'll slug the victim, but I let them get back up. I am very, very grateful to every killer who does the same for me.

  • I've had 1k+ pings when the queue is too long and the game sticks me on a different server. Not my choice at all, the match is unplayable for me when that happens.

But yes, I've experienced that ping and occasionally see it on other players.

That's very reasonable. Probably a notification in-game would be useful to know what perks are active in certain situations, in the same way that we get icons for things like open-handed.

In terms of perks ro fix, I was thinking mainly of No Mither, but a small number of other perks might fit that category too. For example, I ran Red Herring for a short time when I was trying to craft a meme-esque locker build. My opinion is that Red-Herring also needs a slight buff to be useful.

But you're right, some people will just dodge a lobby if they see a perk they don't like, which is definitely subjective.

Honestly, I find Pebble and Bardic Inspiration to be unusually strong in the sense that sometimes they can turn killers friendly, and at a higher rate than giving items. Also, I kind of like Pebble in the same way that I like Deception. Perks that can be used to trick the opponent seem fun to me :)

BTW, did you ever try to run Bardic + Mirrored Illusion? I've been thinking of sticking both on and bringing a Halloween flashlight, then try to get the killer to look at the illusion as I project a ghost onto the wall in front of them. Then when they turn around, pop out a lute. I might try it later today :)

My opinion is that Red-Herring also needs a slight buff to be useful.

You're right, it does. I tried running it and found it way too limiting to be consistently fun.

I find Pebble and Bardic Inspiration to be unusually strong in the sense that sometimes they can turn killers friendly, and at a higher rate than giving items.

Absolutely. There have been many times I made a friend by amusing the killer with the Lute and/or Pebble.

I kind of like Pebble in the same way that I like Deception. Perks that can be used to trick the opponent seem fun to me

They are fun. I'm sooo amused when Pebble works. If I run a different build to help with a challenge, usually at least once during the match I'll search my pocket for a pebble and be like, "What? Nooooo." I miss it so much when I don't have it, now.

BTW, did you ever try to run Bardic + Mirrored Illusion?

My fourth perk is usually Mirrored Illusion. It's great fun. Killers don't see it often.

One of my most cherished memories with this build so far:

Not too long ago, I actually got a Basement Bubba. He made a big show of being a chest-guarding Basement Bubba (made sure I saw him entering the basement, then kept swinging at the chest and shaking his head no). My friend and I played our lutes for him, which he loved. We brought him items from other chests as offerings. And as the icing on the cake I put my Mirrored Illusion on the basement chest. He seemed very amused.

Man, ever since the addition of AFK penalties, I don't see enough Basement Bubbas. The really meme-y ones are good fun.

  • DbD is losing its identity and uniqueness, sacrificing the horror theme to look like a mobile game. Yes, the new player experience is bad, but that has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with rarity colors or the Rift/Tome. But it's easier to break what works than fix what's broken.

  • Yes, please.

    Really. PLEASE.

It'd also be nice if they made the Singularity's body more like the original artwork, which was way more visually interesting. The body they gave him doesn't look much different from his default.

Bond= people sandbag when your on a gen by purposely running killer to you or other teammates on gens. They also sandbag by running killer to you injured who is injured, yet they are healthy or other injured teammates who just got unhooked. Finally big shocker, they use it to hide and let everyone die for hatch. They are 100x worst than distortion users.

Sprint burst= getting put in stage 2 hook from 1 exists still because people trying to save their sprint burst.

Bond users love to sandbag at gens, and my god I've had so many Claudettes with Empathy run across the map (in chase) to me after I get unhooked and am at a pallet healing… in those situations, I decide I like the killer more than my "teammate": those Claudettes get a pallet to the face.

Edit: This is what I've personally experienced. Not a generalization of all players ever. I've had Bond users who used it to avoid people at gens, it's just less common in my matches.

yep that’s me, right here, raises hand. I think I’ve bought 1 survivor ever with shards. Everything else I’ve paid money for bc I can’t be bothered. I use all my shards on cosmetics, bp, or killer perks in the shrine.

When I started on PS4, I bought the chapters that had been already released all at once with actual money. The original chapters since are all shard purchases.

I did the same thing later when I bought the game on Nintendo Switch. God did that one bite me in the ass, all the chapters I bought with money are tied to the Switch exclusively. :(

But yeah, shards take a while to earn. A lot of people pay money for original chapters.

Exactly, so now we're stuck dealing with a high ping killer that has a perpetual advantage over us, such as The Huntress and The Deathslinger, with hits through walls, around corners, and getting snapped into the projectile's path. So fun!!

Every once in a while the queue seems to take too long and I'll get put on a different server, and the game is unplayable when it does that. I'd rather wait longer than be in a match I can't participate in. It doesn't happen too often, but it's incredibly frustrating when it does happen. The lack of a ping indicator is extremely player unfriendly.

We need console-only cross-play to avoid having to deal with cheating.

People have been asking ever since cross-play became a thing. It's one of the reasons people play on console, and BHVR was like, "Nah, you can have the optimization issues and cheaters."

  • @Nicholas said:

Incoming patch where backing out of lobbies will be bannable.

The main point of being able to dodge lobbies was to avoid high pings, and they removed the ping indicator (which sucks), so I really wouldn't be surprised.

  • Right now? They killswitched Nemesis.

In general, I rarely play killer because killer often isn't fun. I'm a casual player. What I want is a nice match where I get chase and hooks and then all four survivors escape before I get bored. What I get are either 4 potatoes who are afraid to touch gens, do nothing but hide, and go down the moment I find them; or, I get survivors who rush through the gens and I struggle to get a couple hooks before the match is over. There is no middle ground. SBMM does not match me with survivors who are fun to verse.

I had slowed down on playing killer before Distressing and Beast of Prey lost their BP boosts, but I've practically stopped altogether since. I can't get past the issues when the rewards for dealing with those issues are slashed.

Yeah, this seems like a bad idea. As others have mentioned, this will likely lead to people shopping for and dodging lobbies. That will also lead to an issue with backfilling of lobbies, potentially with players of skill levels that don't match.

There will also be a byproduct that some fraction of players will feel forced to not explore perks they worry are too weak. I sometimes mix up my builds to try interesting things. I don't put on perks that are bad for my team (e.g. No Mither), but I think the ability to explore perks will decrease dramatically. BHVR should just fix bad perks instead of this.

People have different ideas of what constitutes a bad perk. As I said above, I love my meme build and the perks I run, but other survivors would probably dodge it because it's not meta. The reason for showing perks is to help survivors coordinate better. What survivors need are more hints that certain perks are in play. Knowing a teammate has Deliverance, knowing the person who got in a locker has Head On. Things like that would be useful to to know.

  • @Caiman said:

The meta will be enforced. Get ready to never get a good team because anyone with over 100+ hours dodges you for the sin of running Red Herring. No fun allowed.

I run Pebble, Lute, Plot Twist, and a variable fourth perk that's often Mirrored Illusion. I'll never get another match again if this goes live.

saw someone saying it’s the ones who live and it’s Rick and michonne from the walking dead. At least that’s what they are saying all over YouTube from the stream.

    Yes.

  • I can't wait to be lobby dodged to hell and back because I run a meme build. Yay.

  • Anyone interested in a hint for figuring it out themselves: the clues are probably in that roadmap screencap. Some letters are much lighter than the rest of the text.

Legit I have no sodding clue what it'll be... need VaatiVidya on the case xD

Is the double survivor chapter the one they "gave clues" for? Because I'm pretty sure people figured that one out, if you're interested.

  • Just want to say I agree with everything you've said. I hate this patch.

Edit: And I'm really upset that they've already stated the Compendium is not staying. It's bad enough we're not getting new Tomes. The Compendium at least should be permanent.

  • Do they plan on bring him back in the future?

That depends on the license holder. Licensed DLC usually gets discontinued because the license holder doesn't renew the contract when it comes up. Stranger Things came back because the fanbase pestered Netflix, sending emails and flooding their Twitter, until Netflix gave in. So, I guess pestering Pinhead's license holder would be your best bet.

So with Pinhead gone this achevment, you arent able to get? or is there a work around?

Well, the people who already bought Pinhead got to keep him, so they can still get the adept achievement. People who didn't already purchase him can't. When BHVR lost Stranger Things, they changed the achievements and made them generic so the characters were no longer required. We don't know if they'll do that for Pinhead's chapter. (Edit: Are the achievements tied to the game or do you have to own the DLC to have access to the achievements? If it's the latter, then there's no reason to change them.)

this system requires you to play this game daily

I keep seeing this claimed, but we don't know if there will be any Event Quests to get rift fragments in.

But if there are, we don't know about them. What people know today is that the new Rift is live and, going by the information we have, they need to log in nearly every day to complete the Rift. If they don't do the dailies right now and it turns out there aren't a large number of Fragments coming from events, then their hope could cost them finishing the Rift. Learning later that there are more Fragments coming doesn't help them today.

A lot of people prefer to play games intermittently. Feeling like they need to log in every day and play—whether they're in the mood or not—to earn a pittance of Fragments is going to burn them out and make the game a chore instead of fun very quickly.

  • The old Tome had personality. The challenges changed things up and gave players different goals. Being able to complete multiple challenges at a time was something I wanted, but now I regret wanting that because holy hell what BHVR has given us here is awful. All they had to do was a small change to future Tome chapters, and instead they overhauled the whole thing. They removed earning Rift Fragments via XP, they made the grind horribly worse. In a game where player burnout is already a huge issue they've created a system that requires near-daily participation to complete the battle pass. Brilliant.

I'm really considering uninstalling the game if BHVR doesn't walk some of this back. I won't be manipulated to play this game like it's my job. And knowing the Compendium's days are numbered has me feeling like I might as well stop playing now rather than waste my time playing only to stop playing later when it's yanked (having the Pustula Plant challenge selected is like one of my favorite things).

  • @smurf said:

Some of those are definitely valid points! My biggest concern is the implementation of 'daily quests' that are required to progress through the rift.

Rewards that can only be earned by logging on and playing every day usually seem to be designed to force people into an unhealthy relationship with the game in question. That's something that I could see leading to people permanently quitting a game in favor of something that feels less manipulative.

I'm definitely not saying that the intent of the update is to manipulate people, but I can imagine myself feeling a need to play the game every day even if I had other things I needed to do, leading to pointless stress. And if people being to associate DBD with a stressful feeling of needing to play, lest there be consequences of missing out, they may get jaded and pick other hobbies.

Anyway, this is mostly based on what the OP said here; I haven't gone through the numbers on the new system myself, so I don't know how crucial the daily 'quests' are to completing the rift yet.

One other note is that 'quest' seems like some rather unfitting terminology for DBD. Are we questing around the Entity's realm now? I think 'ritual' is thematically on-point though :)

That's something that I could see leading to people permanently quitting a game in favor of something that feels less manipulative.

The idea that I might have to play almost every day to complete the Rift makes me not want to play at all. That's my immediate reaction to these changes. Someone did the math, and according to them, if XP doesn't provide Rift Fragments, then a person needs to play 37 of 84 days to complete the Rift. That's an almost every-other-day requirement, that doesn't work for a lot of people. I have spurts of playing. I don't play as much as every other day and I don't want to. If I have to divide my time in a very specific way to complete a Rift I'd otherwise been completing just fine since its inception… ? No.

I'm getting so close to uninstalling. UI changes we didn't ask for and didn't want. Rarity color changes. An entire upheaval of the Rift and Tome, with them already saying the Compendium's days are numbered (this last one really bums me out). Meanwhile, during this past year they removed button hotkeys that made console life easier and still never gave us more controller settings. Nah, I'm really thinking I've given this game too much leeway and it's gone far beyond not deserving my time.

I too prefer "Ritual." It's much more fitting. This recent patch has really done a lot to kill DbD's personality and turn it into a generic mobile game.
