Here's a video from my friend Wesker doing this.
Sadly the audio is desynched. It's a beta feature of Steam for now, so these desynchs happen sometime.

He also said that he too played a match were the survs were SO BAD that he died on 1st hook and it ended with all survs killed without a single gen completed.

Well, there it is, lol. I was wondering if it was even possible.

I've also been on teams of some almost comically bad survs and still never saw anything close to an 8K at 8 gens, which is what got me thinking about it.

"if even 4-5 survs are halfway decent, there's a very good chance most or all of the gens are getting done"

Then I guess your lobby had no decent players?

In my OP I was saying I've never seen an 8K at 8 gens (or even close), and was curious if anyone had seen it.

Even when my team was a total disaster and I played badly I haven't seen it.

  • They're not impossible, but many are hard enough that I get most people not wanting to bother.

As for why, DBD was simply a different game back then. I agree that many of them should be tweaked the same way the key/hatch ones were (and some of he key/hatch related ones still remaining are just not worth the effort). Some of them are significantly harder than recent challenges. I have completed most of them, but if I had to do it now I probably wouldn't bother.

  • @Nazzzak said:

Haven't seen that yet but not overly surprised to hear it happens. In most of my games there's only a certain number of survivors who actually touch gens. Once we (I include myself in that) are dead, you spectate the game just start to stagnate. It's not every game but definitely a number of them. I just had a longer than usual 2v8 game where there were 6 of us left and 4 gens, and only myself and a Nicolas Cage were touching gens at all. The killers were constantly patrolling the gens so we kept moving around the map behind them, and every gen left hadn't been touched after the killers had kicked away whatever progress we had done. The other 4 survivors literally weren't touching anything. The game just dragged, I felt bad for the killers after we died.

I think it's pretty common to have only a few survs doing gens, as there's no matchmaking and the potatoes are probably all freaked out by being in the terror radius all the time. Lots of newer players who just shut down and immerse if the killer is anywhere near and/or just expect everyone else to carry them.

It's like a group project in school.

But even then, if even 4-5 survs are halfway decent, there's a very good chance most or all of the gens are getting done. If 6+ pf the survs are even pretty good, the killers are probably getting pantsed.

It's a pretty surv sided mode, imo.

The headphones thing is more widespread than you'd think.

Players sitting on a crusty couch across from an ancient TV and using that TV's speakers is not unusual. Contrast that with the more serious gamers hunched 4 inches from a very nice monitor with their tourny mouse cranked up to 21000 sporting a $240 headset that can hear aliens farting on Mars. The very definition of casual vs. competitive.

I bet I'd actually get something out of Spirit if I was using a decent headset! 🤣

I have a high end gaming PC with an array of great peripherals, but I've spent about 98% of my 6K hours in DBD playing on PlayStation, from my couch, 10 feet from my TV, with no headphones, most of the time with lots of background noise, lol.

While I absolutely can dial it in and sweat, generally it's just that kind of game to me, a plop down and kick my feet up after work and decompress kind of casual game. And 2v8 is the highest (or lowest?) form of that casual vibe.

Videos have been made about this, but I think most people in places like this forum assume everyone playing the game have a similar level of investment, but the overwhelming majority of players are really, really casual. And no matter how good you are, these people are in your matches. Consistently.

Which is why I can't wrap my head fully around why people take DBD so seriously. I mean we're in a thread where someone is trying to dictate optimal play in a mode essentially designed to be total mindless chaos.

  • That the maps themselves are the real big problem is far from a hot take. People have been screaming that from the rooftops for years, and it's patently obvious.

The issue is that they'll never be balanced, so killing the offerings are probably the best thing we can hope for.

  • Yes, if only for all the god forsaken backpacks, etc. that ruin so many skins.

I like the idea of making smaller stuff toggleable, but going through all the cosmetics and coding that stuff as separate items would be an enormous task. I'd settle for just the big obtrusive stuff that makes you super visible to the killer from distance.

Bro all of these are so damn cool, I'll forever be cursed, I downloaded in 2018 and didn't touch until late 2021. How scary and dark the game used to look is crazy I really wish they'd bring some of that aesthetic back. Awesome posts guys I'm always jealous when these pop up!

Yeah, most of old school DBD was a broken mess that only people with nostalgia goggles on want back, but the dark, foggy aesthetic was so much better. Everything is too bright now, and the full daylight maps are a travesty.

    Love seeing these old screens.

  • Every other game I play is single player (or predominantly single player like Soulsborne and Borderlands games). Mostly RPGs (JRPGs and Western), Roguelikes and the most challenging action RPGs I can get my hands on. Big Fallout player. And anything Fromsoft makes; I've been all about that life since Demon's Souls.

Historically I have always avoided online multiplayer games because they eat your life, and tbh most days I regret picking up DBD as it has eaten thousands of hours of my life, lol.

I'm gonna date myself here, but I used to be into the fighting game scene…in person at the arcade.

DBD is really an outlier for me, something that I can pick up and put down easily. Pretty much anything else I play I will only play in large chunks of time (5-6+ hours). DBD is the "I'm gonna switch my brain off for a while" game in my life. Its appeal to me is that it's too messy and imbalanced to take seriously, so I don't get stressed by it.

  • Yeah, it's pretty prevalent in 2v8, like 1 in 10 matches with Wesker I've seen, maybe more often. I feel bad for those players who wait forever in queue just to have that happen.

But I remember seeing it in 1v4 in the past, too. I've personally only seen it with Wesker, though.

    1. With so many survs lots of people just assume someone else is gonna do it
    2. With no SBMM in 2v8 there are just a lot of unaware potatoes

Crazy that this is what ive been saying the whole time yet you criticized me for it… The only part that people have an issue with is me saying that the survivor should have cut his losses and if the killer has an ego for wanting to slug for a 4k then a survivor trying to hide and stay alive for as long as possible is in the same boat. It's also pretty obvious that hiding is worse than slugging. At least someone is only slugged for 4 minutes before bleeding out. A survivor can hide indefinitely if the killer cant find them. Which everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that in the OP they state that the killers ego stalled the game by them slugging. Therefor they are accusing the killer of having an ego, not because of the EGC but by him slugging. Thats all my initial point was.

"So while you get the killers job is to kill, survivors job isn’t be in chase or offer yourself up, it’s to escape. Anyways long live stealth"

Yet here you say if escape isn't realistic you'll die in a chase and push gens. Ive said that so many times lol. Also ive stated that my comments arent just referring to the initial commenter its the slugging debate as a whole and i was criticizing what other people were saying on it. Maybe read all of my comments before coming to a judgement and i mean actually read. Not scan without taking in the information or find 1 or 2 points to grasp on.

4 gens with 2 survivors left and 1 of you being a few seconds away from bleeding out and the other is actively slugged, escapes not a realistic outcome in that case.

"but checks notes, seems like they were trying to stay alive and be a team player for a chance at the door since one other person was still alive."

Team player for a chance at the door? That was unrealistic. Its very clear it was a game of attrition until one of the was full dead. Now it sounds like neither one of them wanted the other one to die, but in that case it's best to let one bleed out and get hatch. It's very clearly hopeless and all youre doing is stalling and dragging the game along.

In the OP they stated "Me and my teammate were doing gens, but at extremely slow rate, so basically we were hiding from the killer almost the entire match."

You read that correctly? At that point it seems like theyre occasionally taping a gen for a handful of seconds at best before hiding. That doesnt exactly sound like doing generators.

"Take aggro, lead a chase and either die and move on while your team mate does gens or has a shot at hatch."

Is something that i stated in a previous comment. You literally say practically the same thing as to how you should handle an unwinnable situation.

You implied that people are comprehending my point yet it's painfully obvious that you yourself arent.

What are you on about? I didn't even respond to or quote you here. I didn't even read your posts until just now, lol. My comments were in response to another post that was made before you said anything, and I didn't criticize you or miscomprehend your point because I didn't read it.

    Calm down, buddy.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

If I'm hiding for the purpose of not dying, because I'm on death hook and me dying early will drastically increase the likelihood of us losing, but I'm still progressing the match, then I'll do it. But if it's like, "We're probably losing this anyway," I'll just do the gens and chases I can.

I agree, if the game is lost and my one remaining teammate is just hiding, I'm not gonna extend it just for the heck of it.

The point of the game as surv is to avoid death and escape, if escape is no longer a realistic outcome, I'll die in chase or pushing a gen. There are limits to "but the point is to avoid death". I don't mean to seem like I'm condoning going next, I'm talking about like there's 4 gens still up and only two of us are left; a real "the game is effectively over" scenario.

And what if you avoid being found for an hour? You've lost anyway, wasted your own time, and gained nothing. Pointless.

And let's be honest, just immersing and trying not to be found may be the easiest thing to do in DbD, you're not even using any skill. There's no fun in it.

  • It seems like almost all good, but the amount of lobby dodging I can foresee would cancel all of the positive out.

A person trying to run a fun/experimental build might have a hard time actually getting into a match.

I have a pretty good system for determining what a fool is, and a tunneler. You wanna ruin my game, I should be allowed to ruin yours

Obviously cheating is one thing that shouldn't be tolerated, but people tunneling or being a "fool" are just parts of the game. Annoying AF, but part of the game, and you should expect it to some degree. If you aren't willing to deal with them, play something else.

But why do people like you think that OPs experience is the right one and not mine? I will obviously not open a topic a la "I have not faced a Cheater in months", but would that mean that if someone says they faced one, you would jump into the thread and defend my opinion?

This is why I was asking for videos - the chances are much higher that something is not understood and therefore people THINK there is cheating involved compared to actual cheating happening.

IMO the Mods should delete threads like this without actual evidence anyway.

Yeah, while I think some people are simply exaggerating about the number of cheaters they face, the bigger issue is that I think a lot of people are just assuming someone is cheating because there is some legitimate mechanic involved that they don't recognize.

And it's kind of understandable, as all the perks, items, and synergies between them can be hard to keep track of, especially for newer players. Hell, I have 6K hours and I sometimes see something that seems shady and have to take time to scrutinize (and sometimes research) their loadout after the game to identify what happened.

I do see cheaters from time to time, but most of the time something seems off there is actually an valid explanation for it.

You mean when all 4 survivors are down? Ever since hooks can respawn, are there really places where survivors can place themselves that make hook sunreachable?

Yeah, that's not really a thing anymore. Not only do hooks respawn now, but the maps are getting smaller. Even when all survs are up, the number of conceivable scenarios where you just can't get a surv to a hook are very, very limited (pretty much only a very well coordinated SWF, and you don't balance around the exception, but the rule).

It's been quite a long time since I last felt like I couldn't get someone to a hook. It's never been easier.

No one is forced to slug except on rare occasion.

And you can get people up even when the killer is babysitting them. WGLF, MFT, Buckle Up, etc. And as others and I have said in the past, if slugging becomes a true meta, it won't last long. The previously mentioned perks (and likely UB/Exponential) will become meta, people will learn how to use them well, and the slugging playstyle will crumble.

I might be in the minority, but I think Go Next Prevention will be a disaster without some serious nuance built into it on top of vastly improved matchmaking. There is zero reason that the developers should expect survivors to stay in a game when a survivor is dead at 3 gens, or other near zero win probability situations. This is not community service. It's a video game, and it's supposed to be fun.

When players say they find half their trials unfun, they mean it. When you put together disposable matchups, players will treat them like it (disposable). It is so beyond entitled to sit there and penalize going next over fixing your matchmaking algorithm that puts players in unwinnable games 25% of the time.

I agree that Go Next prevention has the serious potential to be a hot mess. I would start simple and just remove ability to attempt to self-unhook (unless you're running Deliverance) and the second stage skill checks.

I don't fully trust an automated system that tries to discern when a player is giving up or not trying generally, especially when the punishment is relatively severe.

But as a solo queue player, my number one (by a mile) issue when it comes to ruining my experience is my teammates going next. It's not the killer, it's not the map, it's my teammates bailing.

And most often this happens when the game is still totally winnable. I would say the vast majority of the time I see teammates go next, it isn't when the game is effectively over, it's in the opening minutes. This simply isn't acceptable, and something has to be done.

  • I love playing PH. His add-on are in fact trash, but making proper reads and/or predictions and hitting people through walls, etc. is hugely gratifying.

I have 10-12 killers I run regularly, and will play pretty much any killer on a whim except for Blight, Nurse, Trickster, SM, and Hag, except if there is a daily, and even then only rarely.

Oh, and Unknown. I've never once played them, and have no plans to. So I guess they would be the most "forgotten" (I don't actually forget any really, since I play a lot of surv) for me.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/438777/solo-survivor-gamemode

You shouldn't be getting annihilated 9/10 times. Killers are so "strong" because they need to be able to somewhat compete against SWF. Until SWF gets a nerf, expect them to keep balancing this way. OR maybe they should fix the MMR so that you're being put with killers more your level.

MMR isn't getting fixed (the more we learn about it, the more we realize how screwed it is) and SWF sure isn't getting nerfed. That dream is just that. Solo might get buffed, but never to the point that SWF is at.

But that's not a huge deal because no one is consistently facing strong SWFs most of the time. Or even half the time. Maybe during prime time on a Friday or Saturday night, but beyond that it's a mixed bag. The prevalence of strong SWFs (most SWFs aren't even good) isn't nearly high enough to warrant basing your entire approach to playing killer around them.

There simply is no good justification for a killer to play full meta, 100% sweat all the time in public matches. None. More killers should cultivate the ability to assess the surv team's strength (or more accurately lack thereof) and adjust, imo.

I am not a killer main anymore, but I think I must have a pretty high killer MMR, and I can usually discern in the first 60-90 seconds of a match whether sweat is still warranted or not. While I think a lot of players care too much about winning in this game, I wouldn't presume to tell people they shouldn't try their best. But honestly, if you realize the team you are facing is grossly overmatched, dialing it down a bit seems not only reasonable, but more fun.

Winning is only fun if there actually a competition to be had. Unless of course a person is someone who gets their kicks from just demoralizing people who never really had a chance.

At this point we all have to know that BHVR isn't going to use discretion on our behalf, it's up to the players to police themselves in this regard. We're on our own here.

On the other hand, I play surv entirely on solo, and I don't die even close to 9/10 times, and I have a hard time that anyone actually does (given a large enough sample size), and occasionally getting stomped by a sweatlord Blight/Nurse just comes with the territory.

  • I've played killer twice this go round, and though the times weren't terrible (10-12 minutes), if it's more than a few minutes I can't really be bothered. It's fun, but I'm just not gonna wait much.

  • The marginalizing of the Lunar New Year has really bummed me out. Just an afterthought now, but used to be pretty fun.

  • I don't know, the last couple of times I was escaping like 2/3 of the time, this time it's been like half the time. So while the bots and new classes have had an impact in my games, I definitely feel like its pretty easy to escape, at least compared to 1v4.

True. They should just do away with the BP cap, tbh. There's no point to it.

  • @wakesafe said:

No, I have a P100 Survivor and the Killers I play are P25+ at least. My BP reach the cap often because it’s so time consuming and boring to spend them

I hope so too. The day we get confirmation of that, I'll join the P100 club. I just see no point in it until that point.

I think there's still a point, since once you hit P100 you get a pretty steady stream of rare and ultra rare items on the web for that character. It'll be a lot more incentivizing once we get p100 rewards, though.

  • For sure. I mean, I play both sides and and working on my fifth P100 surv, and play enough different killers that BP is always a need to keep them stocked with items and add-ons. Plus even if you only play surv and have on P100, you can never have enough rare items.

And I am holding out hope that one day we'll get cool rewards for our P100 characters, so I'm gonna keep on that as well.

  • I've been playing this game for going on six years (both sides, but was a killer main for my first year or so), and imo this is the most killer friendly the game has been in that time, easily.

I mean you would either have to be a dedicated killer main or new to the game to think it's currently surv sided.

  • I got the badge today and the only IM item I have purchased is the Dredge skin

  • I've only played 2 killer matches, and both were between 10-12 minute waits

  • It's been said that the reason that people aren't playing surv is because there's really not much new to it, all the novelty is on the killer side. I agree, and don't think trying to make surv "more fun" is the answer, either.

The bots are a wide miss here, as they are even more useless in 2v8 than 4v1, by a wide margin. Their AI clearly isn't built for this mode, and I've only had one match were there weren't two bots.

As an immediate step, I would just incentivize the crap out of the surv role. Like 500-1K iri shards per match in addition to the normal BP. If it's only for a couple of weeks each quarter, BHVR isn't really going to lose much money there. It's not perfect but nothing they've done yet even approximates a solution.

  • I felt like it was quite survivor sided both of the first two times, but a little less so now with two lobotomite bot teammates every time.

  • The Jane (though the giant colorful ribbons make it kinda impractical), Thalita, Plague, and Knight are winners for me, the rest are pretty forgettable.

    @Nazzzak said:

Picture Jane's outfit without those purple streamers and it's just perfection. I think they really ruined a lovely outfit with that purple. I get they want to stay on theme with the purple but they could have done something a bit more subtle.

It's not even the color for me, it's how prominent they are. It's like advertising your location to the killer. Which is a shame because it's great outside of that feature.

  • It would be great, but as you say the gameplay would have to be completely overhauled into a new mode, or released as a standalone DBD VR game.

It would be awesome if BHVR could pull it off, but I am not sure the VR player base is there. OTOH, it would be no less of a waste of resources than any of their other side projects, so why not?

  • I wouldn't even want legacy as a P100 reward, but something new. And it's not just the exclusivity, it's that legacy has a specific meaning. I don't have any as I haven't been around that long, but I don't want them, either.

  • @Samwill226 said:

Is it worth coming back? How is the balance now. Anything to watch out for if I do return?

This is like asking if you should take up smoking crack after kicking it.

  • I'd love to see less of the Blight. It's not that he's strong, but that like 90% of them seem to play the exact same way, and there are so many.

I'd probably like to see less Wesker, too. I don't mind Wesker in a vacuum (Weskers are actually pretty fun to face), but I like variety, and there are tons of Weskers.

Also, for my own weird reasons I can't define, I wouldn't mind if I never saw another Wraith. I hate facing him, and when I play as him I feel like I am doing something bad. He's not super strong, there's just something about him I can't stand.

I wish I saw more of Demo, Billy, and Oni.

  • Counterargument: Play in the way that feels right to you, and disregard negative feedback.

If you're playing "nice" because you're looking for reward, you're not really being nice. Do the right thing because it's the right thing. Or play mean if that's how you want to play.

I play respectfully (most of the time) because that's how I would like to be treated if it were me. That's life; people aren't always going to reciprocate good vibes. I'll often spare teams of potatoes who are so green that they don't know they're being spared and will BM me. I just laugh it off.

But if it really just eats at a person, that's a them issue.

  • It's hit or miss; I've seen bots juice pretty good killers and smash gens, and I've seen bots meandering around like lobotomites.

But yeah, it solo queue they're generally more useful than like half of the people you get teamed up with.

  • I don't think a "regular" basekit UB is a good idea, but a version where a surv has to be on the ground for at least 90-120 seconds for it to trigger isn't the worst idea.

And auto-bleedout option isn't terrible either, but I don't think it should be instantaneous or people would just use it to go next as soon as they hit the ground.

I saw a video (I think it was Scott Jund) where a "push limits" mechanic was suggested, whereby a surv on the ground has the option to crawl at Tenacity+ speed but at the cost of rapidly draining their life. I really like this actually, as it would serve some utility outside of an endgame/malicious slug scenario and serve essentially as a rapid self bleedout.

While I think the OP saying they're left on the ground for four minutes every game is a gross exaggeration, being slugged for the 4K when the killer has no idea where the last surv is at is really, really lame. I know as killer if I down the second to last surv I will pick up unless I know or strongly suspect where the last surv is.

Running around the map for 3-4 minutes searching when the game is over is just disrespectful of everyone's time, including my own. People need to just take W and move on.

The thing is that killers have to dedicate their whole build to a strategy, whereas survivors can screw up the killer's strategy by equipping 1 perk. Killer's slugging? 1 UB or WGLF screws him. Killer's tunneling? 1 DS or OTR screws him. Killer's going for regular hooks? Flashbang or Sabotage screws him. Killer's kicking gens? Blast Mine screws him. You just don't get that kind of perk power on the killer end. Rancor's the closest thing, where you kill 1 guy, and it still isn't foolproof because they can be body blocked.

I think there's a hierarchy here. I think anti-slugging perks are actually a great deal stronger than anti-tunnel perks. If every killer started hard tunneling every match, survs would generally be in deep trouble regardless of their builds. To a determined (and good) tunneler aware of them, the anti-tunnel perks are just an inconvenience, a speed bump.

Tunneling is and will always be the most consistently effective path to victory as killer.

If every killer started slugging constantly, the resultant anti-slug meta could cancel that in pretty short order. If you had 3-4 WGLFs and/or 3-4 UBs in every match winning by slugging would be nearly impossible against coordinated teams, and difficult even in solo queue.

When playing surv, I never want to be tunneled or see teammates tunneled. If I've got an anti-slug build on, I often think "please leave us on the ground. Do. It.".

And honestly, how often do you get screwed (as in lose a game) by sabos or blinds? It happens to me, but pretty rarely (those games are usually pretty infuriating and memorable, though). It pretty much has to be a swf, and sabos are less effective now with all the shrunken maps. And saying kicking gens is negated by Blast Mine is a stretch. It's a mild annoyance.

There's not much equivalency here, really.

I can agree with Lery's because I can loop well on Lery's but you lose me on Hawkins. ☠️

@jesterkind , even with it being absolutely gutted with Sprint Burst. I actually like to use Iron Will with Lithe, Dramaturgy, and whatever else exhaustion perk I have. It's definitely came in clutch, especially on my Claire Redfield as she's super loud.

@HerInfernalMajesty , I agree. MMR gets a lot of hate and I sometimes have a mixed experience. Yesterday, I came across three Sprint Burst users walking everywhere, which was frustrating. However, I have made really great friends from the MMR system and it's been a joy to play with people with a similar skill bracket that I have. Without MMR, you'd have people with so little hours and the games can be a toss-up on what you get imo. Now games are a lot more consistent for me with the odd hit or miss now.

@Thusly_Boned , interesting that you think DBD isn't skill based. I do agree that it is knowledge related, but there is definitely skill on both survivor and killers.

Survivors for looping, learning when to stealth, 99% Sprint Burst, optimal pathing, when to go for a save, when to commit to a gen, etc.

Same for killer on the area of when to drop chase, hiding your red stain, many people who play Wesker (as he has a learning curve to him imo). There is a lot of skill baked into learning killers — the counterpart for survivors knowing how to counter specific killers too.

That's fair, nothing you listed isn't true as far as being good at the game. But that's not how I personally would define high skill, but stuff that is knowledge based. It's just semantic differences here I think.

I sometimes fall into defining things narrowly, and often define it technically. Like to me the highest skill gamers are people who are elite at games that require lightning quick perception, reflexes, timing, etc. along with game sense for their respective games. These types of skills aren't really needed to be good at DBD, beyond the ability to work a controller or M&K at a rudimentary level.

An 80 year old could be great at DBD with enough learned game sense. Anyone can.

I think what frustrates a lot of people who come into DBD is that virtually none of the general gaming skill one develops over years and decades of gaming translates into DBD. Success in this game is all DBD specific game sense and RNG.

But if a person defines learned game sense as skill, that's totally fair. I'm just being semantically neurotic here.

  • I'm not really worked up about slugging for two reasons:

    1. I don't see widespread slugging on the level of the gen kick meta sort of ubiquity (yet)
    2. If it really does become a widespread thing, it's going to die a quick death.

Why? Because the tools to counter it are already there, and they are strong. If even one or two members of a team are simply decent and have WGLF or Unbreakable, the entire thing falls apart. And there are more strong anti-slugging perks than that, those are just all you would really need.

I'm not even a great (or even very good) surv player, but I have almost single handedly flipped a few recent matches where the killer was slugging because I was running some combo 2 or 3 of UB/WGLF/Buckle up. And that was in solo queue.

And you better believe that if killers start slugging left and right on a large scale, the surv meta is going to shift to and that will be the end of the slugging meta.

Solo queue is bad in that you almost always get inefficient teammates. When you don't, it's fine.

How would MMR being shown be a bad thing? Because to me, all it does is enable the entire playerbase to say, "I'm high MMR, so I know what's best for the game!" Can you prove it? "No, but I'm definitely high MMR! That's why I face OP stuff like Wraith and BBQ all the time!"

DBD is definitely skill over advantage. There's just a lot to learn. Not too much so that people with 1000+ hours still don't know what they're doing, but yet here we are.

Oh, solo queue is bad because your teammates often suck, but it's not the hopeless gulag some people make it out to be.

I don't think MMR being visible would be good because it would do two things:

    1. Verify that that SBMM isn't really doing anything and make people even saltier
    2. Give another useless thing for players to shame each other over

As far as skill goes, it's kind of semantics, but to me "skill" means things like quick reflexes, quicker thinking, and the ability to work a controller/M&K in ways some people are just incapable of. Like technical skill. Like a gifted athlete.

Being good at DBD doesn't require that kind of skill. Yeah, there are people with tons of hours who aren't good, but I'd argue that is mostly because most players aren't really trying all that hard. I think that's the disconnect for a lot of people; really competitive people can't wrap their brain around the reality that most players are playing the game casually.

Of course the problem is that everyone of these people are all in the same matchmaking pot.

If a player is taking DBD seriously (which is a mistake, imo), game knowledge is miles more important than technical skill. DBD just isn't technically demanding. The mechanics are messy and loose. What it demands is that the player be a student of its almost endless array of idiosyncrasies. And that takes a long time, and is a task that never really ends.

And maybe you consider that skill, and that's fine. But anyone can do it.

Or just get to the skill floor with Nurse or Blight and tunnel, which is the shortest and laziest route of all to being "good".

  • Solo queue isn't that bad

Survivors dying more often than not makes playing surv more fun and is thematically appropriate

People knowing their MMR would be a bad thing

Being "good" at DBD isn't skill based at all really, but knowledge based. Which is one of the reasons its rough for new players

Maximum efficiency/high level gameplay is boring AF, as unpredictability makes the game more fun

The only one I dislike is Jane’s, it’s the ribbons that kinda ruin it IMO.

Yeah, they seem to love making really cool skins and then rendering them impractical to run by adding some piece of obnoxious flair. It's usually a backpack/helmet, but in this case those ribbons.

It's like I'd really like to use it, but it's kind of like a big neon sign telling the killer where I am. And forget trying to hide. There have been many of cosmetics I would have purchased but didn't over the years because of this sort of thing.

I get the desire to be creative, but at the very least they should make some of this stuff toggleable.

  • IMO, the problem has been and continues to be people who don't play both sides consistently. Like in life, not having perspective makes it too easy to fully "other" your opponents.

I know how this goes in DBD; my first 800 hours or so were almost strictly killer, and I really developed some attitudes about survs. And then I started 50/50ing my gameplay and that went away. Recently, I've been playing a lot more survivor (kind of spurred by 2v8's killer queue times), and have caught myself doing (and saying) some of the things I used to look down on others for.

DbD is a rare pvp game in that the roles are so distinct they're almost like different worlds. You have to have a foot solidly in both not to develop a serious bias, imo.

  • Obedience school is the solution here

  • I've noticed an increase in the incidence of being grabbed at the very, very tail end (and that's being generous) of the animation when fast exiting a locker. But I think this is just one manifestation of the overall latency of the servers being worse recently.

Even my wife (who has been watching me play this game for years) has commented on how she never used to see it.

  • I have two criteria for describing a team as a bully squad:

    1. Must be at least 3 players coordinating
    2. They prioritize frustrating/harassing/clowning on the killer over completing objectives

That's it. Sweaty, coordinated teams that BM aren't necessarily a bully squad if they prioritize the objectives.

Bully squads don't care about winning, they just want to feel powerful and get the killer tilted.

  • I hate lights out, I play it just until I get the rewards then drop it like it's hot.

2v8 I really enjoy, except for the killer queues, which leads me to only surv.

Chaos Shuffle I didn't like at first, but it really grew on me. I kind of miss wondering what perks I'll draw every match, and knowing meta builds aren't in play.

As for the OP, having and extra game mode every couple months is boring, but having only one isn't somehow? Seems like the solution is just to not play the event mode and go about your life (though I recognize the 2v8 does screw with all queues).
