It still really makes no sense why they don't have mkb for console players. It's not hard to program. If Warframe can have console mkb support, BHVR can too.
Or even just controller optimization; even that much would be nice.
I actually prefer controller for survivor, and for most killers the difference is negligible (aside from 360s and aim dressing BS), but there are a few killers I would like to play on console that are just kneecapped on controller and I won't even bother trying anymore (Oni/Blight), and a few that are still playable but at a decided disadvantage (Huntress, pretty much any projectile killer).
I have a Steam DBD account, but started playing on Playstation and simply can't stomach starting over fully on PC after 3K+ hours.
Hoping without any real expectation for cross progression.

No, I mean committing, you just sit on it in the face of the killer because you know that they are powerless to stop it.
I hate that feeling of being powerless and honestly it's just the same as tunneling in my book but again: it's fair play.
I see what you mean, and I know many killers take it as disrespect. When I used to be a killer main years ago, I took it as arrogance as well. Now I look at it as a calculated sacrifice for the team, and understand why people do it.
And it depends. If you have 2-3 people on a gen and it's like 95% done, you've got to finish it. Particularly if it's a strategically valuable one (part of the 3 gen, the centermost gen, last one, etc). Time is the currency in DBD, sometimes you gotta eat that hit.
If it's like 60-70% done? Nah, bail on it and find another. And if you stay on it and can't get it finished? The risk failed.

Second: survivors "committing" to a Gen. Never liked it but it's fair play.
As a killer, I love survs who commit to gens (by returning to the same one once driven off, even if the killer is still there). It's a function the sunk cost fallacy, and it'll get you killed.

Then don't buy the DLC if you don't think it's worth the value. No one is forcing you to purchase the DLC. BHVR can charge what they want for their DLC and if they price it too high and people don't buy it then they'll have to reduce the price.
BHVR does not need to write up a dev blog about pricing changes and make sure the community is fine with such changes ahead of time. Just don't buy the DLC.
No they don't, but it's perfectly reasonable for people to make a forum posted pointing out what they see a problem with it. Or maybe they found something in the pricing they feel others might not (but should be) aware of.
Frankly, it's a better use of bandwidth than the 634,821st post on "why isn't BHVR fixing tunneling?!" or "pLz nerf [insert killer/perk/add-on here].
I don't necessarily agree with it, but it's just some consumer advocacy, and that's fine.
-
@Crowman said:
You aren't entitled to BHVR telling you they are going to increase DLC prices nor do they need your approval to do so. Not to mention the Auric Cell cost is still the same.
Does it suck that steam DLC prices are more expensive, sure. But you don't have to buy the DLC and you always have the ingame store option over steam.
Prices have been going up for products in general, so this hardly is as big of an issue as you guys want to make it out to be.
This is true, but the BHVR isn't entitled to the consumer just quietly accepting it. Nor are they entitled to perpetually growing profit margins. Drawing attention to pricing changes and discussion about them (including conjecture/questioning about motivations), as well as advocating for organized pushback is totally acceptable in forums like these.
So in a very real way, BHVR does need our approval, it's only that approval is expressed in the form of purchasing.
More than acceptable, in fact. They can raise their prices, and the consumer can reject the changes by abstaining from purchase, and by encouraging others to do so, if they feel they are unfair. This is how the market should work.
Additionally, this is how unjustified pricing changes get pushed off on people, and the fond hope of the company is that they will be quietly accepted.
And make no mistake, while inflation is a thing, a whole lot of what we have seen over the past few years is more collective price gouging/collusion that natural inflation. We had a pandemic supply chain crisis that actually passed pretty quickly, but many unscrupulous companies decided hey could just keep on going with unjustified price increases. Even for companies that were totally immune to supply chain/pandemic labor issues. This has long since graduated from conspiracy theory to a fact acknowledged by most economists.
They just count on you to quietly accept burgeoning prices and chalk it up to whatever the narrative of the day happens to be. Always question these things.
People can just roll with these changes if that's their prerogative, but we shouldn't try to quiet/suppress those who want to point out problems with them.

The solution is simple there. Count to 10.
By which time the unhooked is often gone.
I prefer the simpler approach: if you still want my attention after getting unhooked, I'll give you all of it until you're out of the game.
It's one of the few scenarios where I feel hard tunneling is totally justified.
-
The best advice I've heard for Huntress specifically is to try to throw hatchets at almost every opportunity, and M1 only rarely and begrudgingly. Of course what this will result in is a whole lot of losing until you get better at it, but you'll only get better at throwing hatchets by throwing A LOT of hatchets.
Huntress may actually have the highest skill ceiling of any killer, so you can always improve with her, and keep getting returns on your investment there (though this can be limited somewhat if you play on console/controller).
So you have to be willing to suffer a lot of losing (often badly) to get better.
In general, getting better at any killer is going to be a result of simply playing them a lot. And while you have an advantage in that you have a lot of time in survivor, we may be talking about a great number of hours.
I often recall how when I started struggling with killer (at 100-200 hours, when I started playing consistently against survs who weren't terrible), I started watching YouTube vids, and one was an Otz vid where he said something like "when you start to get good at about 1K hours", being really discouraged.
You can cut this time down by focusing on only a killer or two, but if you like playing multiple killers, it's gonna take a while. So be patient. SBMM sucks, but it will be a bit of a roller coaster as you get better, start winning, and then get into another stratum and struggle again for a while. Just keep at it and it will come, it's just an investment of time.

Of course they wanna make more money, like that's obvious. Like I said they are a business
Yeah, I don't mind the current model; people who don't have an issue dropping money on cosmetics will just buy outfits they like straight away regardless.
The people who wait a month probably would never have spent the money anyway, so I don't think they're actually losing anything by making them available for shards after a month.
Of course my position has always been that they would make more money by slashing the prices (at least halving them) and thereby selling way more units, but that's not the point here.

Are you saying Feng had endurance or something? I could barely understand the scenario you were describing in the original post.
It's difficult to parse, but I read the OP as at least partially a complaint about trying not to tunnel people off hook but having them bodyblock with their endurance.
-
It depends on the character/killer; I think it makes sense for a few, but not most. For a killer like Freddy, whose persona (at least OG persona) was like 75% smack talk, it seems wrong not to have any, and really diminishes the character.
But you wouldn't want every match to become just a cacophony of voice lines constantly going on.

Some sort of map balance/standardization. Like in terms of size and number of pallets, for starters.
It's kind of unacceptable for your experience as a player (especially as killer) to vary so wildly depending on the map you load into. I don't think an asym like this is balanceable, but this would be by far the biggest single step in that direction, imo.

Ah. It’s something the ever-present 4-man SWF does. I can’t imagine you’re seeing solo queue survivors tank hits—with or without endurance—very often. I certainly don’t.
I tank hits all the time as a solo player, but only in certain situations, and almost never when injured (unless I have no hooks and the person I am protecting is on death hook or something). Even as a solo player I view hook states as a team resource, but in the spirit of what it seems the intent of the devs is, I never body block right off hook, I scram.
Of course there's little or no way to be sure who is or isn't in a SWF, but I can tell you that this is not a rare occurrence for me to witness, and I see it consistently in matches where I confidently feel I am facing a SWF.

Perhaps it’s my MMR but the only time I see survivors get hit off hook with endurance is when the killer is tunneling them (maybe they don’t know about endurance or just want to proc deep wound). I never see survivors use it as some sort of shield.
I see it at least once in every killer play session, on average. More common with altruistic SWFs. And it's obvious, especially if they have a door or gap they can fill. They'll force you to hit them to get at the unhooker and then run off (or try to run off) like nothing happened.
-
I love Kayako and Ju-on, but it would just feel redundant, imo. We have two onryo in the game already, can't really justify another with so many more distinct killers still out there.
-
I've been seeing a lot of him, but his tome challenges are among the worst I've seen, especially given the unreliable state of his power.
One of them (the one where you need to slipstream to a surv within 10 meters of an EMP case 3 times in a match) was so fickle and annoying that one game I ended up just running up to the first surv I saw near a case and stood there like a dumb goober until they figured out what I wanted and just gave them them all the game in return.
There were at least 4-5 games prior where I slipstreamed to a surv literally like 20-30 times and couldn't get the damned thing.
There's another I won't even attempt.
-
As a rule I don't tunnel early game, but if you use your post unhook endurance to body block for the unhooker, I'm removing you from the game. Every time.
The point is to allow you to escape, so gtfo. If you stick around demanding my attention, I'll let you have all of it.
While in the moment it might seem like a good tactical move, it's kind of absurd for people to cry about tunneling to the point where an anti-tunneling measure is implemented, and then you refuse to use it for its indented purpose. As a survivor, I hate when teammates do it. If I unhooked you, I want you to get away. So get away.
I'm going to punish that nonsense at every opportunity.
-
For all of its problems, DBD is in the best shape it has ever been in.
What that actually says is another issue, however.
-
Yes and yes. I am an old school hardcore Alien fan, and I think the chapter looks good (really good relative to the last three).

They could solve a lot of problems with seemingly simple fixes, but I have no confidence they will.
-
That's just RNG for you. Sometimes you get handful, sometimes it's a truckload, and there's no way to plan for it (other then The Game, which always has an absurd number of them).
One of the many reasons DBD is so imbalanced (and umbalancable).

You know those types are the ones that DC anytime they start losing, though. Always is.
And yeah, there should be some sort of absolute boundary that will simply not allow mismatches of this magnitude to happen.
-
Yeah, Freddy is totally uninspiring. I'm never at the killer screen and I think "I know, I'll play some Freddy". I only play him if I have a daily, because his dailies are always dead easy (basically hit a surv four times; even his dailies are boring). Generally weak with a boring power, boring presentation, boring mori, just...meh.
And it's sad because he was a horror icon of my youth, and I'd love to have the real Freddy in game. I mean a Freddy who says nothing? How did this ever seem like a good idea? If only they could get Robert Englund's likeness and some voice lines in addition to a rework, he'd immediately be in the top tier in terms of pick rate.
But alas he's just an afterthought in DBD, which is a damned shame.
-
I remember seeing an interview with GUN's lead dev who explicitly said he really hopes people don't try to make TCM competitive, because that isn't what it is designed to be, and not what they want for it. A fond hope, but sweaty people are gonna do what sweaty people do, for better or worse. Mostly worse, I'm sure.
Likewise, DBD isn't designed to be competitive really can't fairly be, but people trying to make it so has created most of the game's problems.
-
Safe Haven was ridiculous on its face, but I didn't spend much time thinking about them. Clearly just crap cobbled together so they'd have some wording to analyze.
-
With the cooldown, you can't really spam teleport like you could before. That said, if you can find a chase and get a hit in a time frame not much longer than the cooldown and then TP (ideally to a surv who just took a tape - thanks mother's comb), you can still do it enough to be a real menace. Especially early when the survs are just running around in a panic trying to find a tape.
You're really not losing much by continually switching chase early in the game, and in fact it increases panic, and by the time all the survs have found a tape, most of them might already have several stacks of condemnation. If the whole squad spawns together, the odds all four can find a tape before it becomes a problem against an aggressive Sadako are pretty slim.
If you get a few stacks of condemnation, take a tape, and she finds you with it, you're in trouble. And that can happen quickly.
There is counterplay, but it's only reliable when the team is super coordinated. She's a certified pubstomper at present.
To mitigate some of this, I might allow survs to see the aura of active TVs within a decent radius (like 32 meters). And/or maybe reduce the condemnation from global, but to a still healthy radius (like 64-96 meters).
And make the amount of condemnation proportional to the surv's proximity to the TV she spawns to. If she spawns right next to a surv, give them a really heavy dose, but if you're far away, only a touch.
I think there are ways to have made condemnation more of a factor without making it oppressive in solo queue.
And ffs get rid of her lullaby.
-
He's very cool, but since I only play solo queue I also hate facing him. Every time I just resign my self to being the cube monkey because 9 times out of 10 everyone else just assumes someone else is going to do it, and getting stuck in a 10 minute chain hunt is almost as fun as a SM 3 gen game.
-
I can't imagine how someone could simply enjoy playing as SM. The only thing she can do to win consistently is 3-gen, which is just a tedious slog for everyone. Using the drones in chase is next to useless against good players, and using them any aside from 3-genning or zoning is boring.
She's the worst killer in the game. Not the hardest to win with, but in terms of fun she is just abysmal.
9/10 SMs I see immediately lay down their 3-gen and then the slog is on. Unlike many people, I never felt ill will to any player for using any killer...until now. Sadly it's gotten to the point where when I know it's a SM I'm just kind of like, "oh, f you".
Not kind of actually, I usually say it out loud.
And that most people feel that way about her would ruin using her even if I enjoyed it. She's just a total loss, imo.

I think killer is easier to play than it was even a couple years ago, and certainly easier than it was 3-4+ years ago. That's not saying it's OP or too easy, but I think people get a little distance from something lose their perspective. OG DH and DS were far more infuriating to face than anything going today.
When I first started, the DH/DS/UB/Adren/IW build was ascendant, and it sucked to face. Plus you had to the old key/hatch dynamic that also really sucked.
And that's not even to mention infinite loops, vacuum pallets and maps that were absolutely busted in favor of survivor.
I don't think now is the easiest it's ever been (gen kick was), but close. And I don't think that's bad; I think it's more balanced than ever as well.
And I do think the game should be slightly stacked against survivor. Thematically, it feels right to go into each match feeling like you're probably going to die.
-
Haddie is probably the only character I regularly use that is widely unpopular, and I am glad to see her getting some decent cosmetics finally; conceptually she's my favorite survivor by far.
I would have said Sadako, but recent changes have pushed her into the meta (for better or worse). I play a lot of Demo, but I also think their rarity has a lot more to do with not being available than unpopular.

Powerful against dumb survivors who don't do tapes
Average against survivors smart enough to use tapes.
That the entire dichotomy in play. The survivors who think she is OP just aren't doing tapes. Literally tapes are deciding factor in how strong or weak she is. Which is actually very thematic for the character and I hope it stays like that this as it makes sense for her.
Generally, but it's not always that simple.
If you load into a game and near all your teammates and they grab all the tapes in the immediate vicinity and you have issues finding one, you're gonna be in a bad way if the Sadako is super aggressive. Plus if the Sadako is running mother's comb and is any good, taking a tape just puts a target on you and will get you condemned even faster. Even more if she is running the iri tape.
Like I said earlier, it helps, but you can do exactly what you should do versus her and still get totally rinsed. Grabbing a tape early is the right play, but by no means is it a guarantee of success.

I don't even think WoO is all that useful unless you're fairly inexperienced. People calling it OP is kinda funny, imo.
Adrenaline is strong, but there's also no guarantee you're going to get any value out of it, so there's risk in even running it. For every time it comes in clutch, there's 2-3 times where you get absolutely nothing out of it.
Also, I feel like it's always been meta, or at least since I started playing in 2019. I don't really think it's any more common then it ever was.
-
I haven't been playing a ton of survivor over the past couple weeks because the incentive has be stuck on killer, in recent weeks when I have, there have been a lot of Sadakos. One night it was 5 of 6 matches that were new condemned Sadakos.
I think she is a pubstomper now, and even more than that. I have seen videos of her stomping even experienced SWFs. If the player is any good at all, the team needs to be really coordinated (of course RNG plays a role).
I don't have a main as killer, but I play a lot of Sadako (she is my highest prestige killer), and I have a pretty good command of her kit. I've never been one to chase condemnation (I'm happy to mori someone if they get condemned, but I've never gameplanned around it), but a week or two ago after facing a few of them, I decided to play a few games and actually go for it, just so I could see how easy it was to execute.
The results were all 4Ks, in none of the matches did all gens get completed. There were even a few games where I would say the team did exactly what they should have to counter (immediately grabbing tapes, putting them in VCRs at good times, etc.), and the only difference it made was the number of gens left when they were all dead.
Basically, if you can build any momentum at all (which can be easy if the survs don't find tapes immediately and you are running iri tape and mother's comb), it's exceedingly difficult for even good survs to stop the snowball.
Now, even in games where I don't even try that hard to get people condemned (and running my usual combo of two of bloody fingernails/well water/newspaper), people get condemned a lot more often (and condemned did need to be more of a factor).
I predict we'll see some of this walked back, and it should be. But I'm also afraid they'll just hard nerf her and leave her back on the garbage pile. She needed buffs, but not like this, or at least to this extent. It's sad because if people didn't play her just to maximize condemnation these changes would be fine, but people are gonna people.
I'd be happy if they scaled back some of the condemned buffs and enhanced her chase kit. She'd definitely be more fair and fun to face.

Wouldn't be too hard to figure out.
1 bleed out happens. Someone crawled to a dead zone or valid reason.
All 4 bleed out? That should get you a couple day break from the game. No reason for that behavior, ever.
Well, there's very little reason, though there are circumstances where a team will run builds, choose maps and/or locations on a map and utilize strategies that make it almost impossible to get them to a hook, and that is the point.
In those cases it is totally justifiable to bleed them all out. They probably deserve it. If they're going to go out of their way to make my game miserable, I will do the same. It's reciprocity.
If that's not the case, bleeding everyone out is pretty much strictly a dick move and totally uncalled for. And that does happen, people will bleed out a whole team just because. It's really senseless, since you get fewer points that way; it's just a power trip thing.
But not bannable.
-
I know what you are saying and I agree with your overall point, but semantically I hate it, lol. To me "master" means maximizing their potential and/or hitting their skill ceiling (in my terms, all the hardest players to master would be in your middle or easy tier).
Competing at a high level with them is a different thing altogether.
I also take some issue with your rankings under your own terms. I definitely wouldn't put Plague in the easiest tier, that's for sure. Plague and Bubba are both highly effective against low tier comp, but fall off significantly against good players.
Killers like Trapper and Freddy don't really have enough "intricacies" to unlock to make them competitive regardless of player skill. Their potential simply isn't there.
Like I could unlock all the intricacies of sword fighting with a butter knife, but it's still gonna be a butter knife. It's not that intricate, and neither is Trapper, even at his skill ceiling.
I suppose that is really just reinforcing your point.

What would prevent people to sweat in Casual Matches?
This is part of why I don't think separating the modes will help. People who are committed to winning at any cost will just stay in the casual mode because they are terrified of losing, even if the victories are hollow. Kind of why hardcore tunnellers always tunnel.
-
I play both sides equally, and I play they way I would appreciate if I were on the other side. Not babied or anything, just with some degree of consideration.
MMR is a joke and the game isn't fairly balanced for either side, and that should be taken into account.
But that's just me, I don't find being absolutely merciless to be fun. The game isn't fine tuned enough for me to just go balls out all the time and not feel a little bad about it sometimes.
-
It was doing more than it should have (more than the stated/intended changes), but fully reverting it isn't great. Hopefully they don't just roll it back and leave it.

I don't think there's a good solution, tbh. Skill (such as it exists in DBD) is extremely hard to quantify, and even if it could be, the matchmaking parameters are comically loose, and when they have been tightened for testing, the queue times became unbearable.
Lobby dodging is just the cherry on top of the crap sundae.

Its possible to be a very mean killer in game and play to be as nasty a character as possible and still be a charitable caring and reasonable person out side of the game.
Just as its possible to be an obnoxious survivor and still be a genuinely nice and un-obnoxious person in real life.
Half the griping on these forums would be rendered mute if players just stepped back and realized this.
All this is true, but the problem is that many of the people advocating that people should play the game in whatever way they enjoy are the same people that absolutely lose their minds when the shoe is on the other foot. The amount of hypocrisy in the community on this point is amazing.
And I acknowledge that a player who paid for the game should be able to play in whatever way they choose (within the established rules), but also personally feel like as a community we should have at least a modicum of empathy for other players.
And in reality exercising some discretion in the way you approach others can be very self serving, because it protects the health of the game. If the experience of the casual player, or the new player loading in to a mismatch, etc., etc, is so bad that they quit, that really harms us all. Toxicity propagates, lame playstyles proliferate, and none of this is happening in a vacuum.
I like DBD, I want to live on in a healthy state.
Telling people to not take the game so seriously is whistling in a hurricane. Too many people take the game too seriously, and that isn't going to change. In our increasingly online world, these online interactions are everything to some people. It isn't healthy at all (a LOT of people really need to touch some metaphorical grass), and we shouldn't all be gaming on eggshells, but practicing a little discretion doesn't seem like a huge ask.

Per definition, tunneling is ignoring other targets in order to finish 1 target.
Apply this definition to gens. Et voila!
I would think full on "tunneling gens" would be detrimental to the surv team, no? Like "I'm gonna do these gens while my team is all dying" wouldn't be particularly effective. Though some people actually operate that way, to be sure, and I hate teammates that do that.
Early in games, survs don't really have other objectives. Now sometimes gens go at a rate where the killer can't manage it for reasons largely beyond their control (map balance, garbage RNG), but that is usually a game design issue.
As for the topic, "fair" is a subjective term, and as far as the game goes, it doesn't violate the rules of the game, even if it does violate the spirit of the game.
But man, is tunneling lame. To me, it says one (or or all) of three things about the player:
- They care waaay too much about "winning" in a game where competition was never really supposed to be the point
- That they don't feel they are good enough to win any other way, and probably really suck at meta gameplay
- The have absolutely no regard for the other players
To be clear, I always define tunneling as tunneling from the beginning of the game, as a general strategy to be used in every match.
Situational tunneling late in games that are slipping away is generally kosher in my book, and should be expected (like camping after the gens are all done).
What should not be expected is that the first time the killer finds you your game is essentially over.
