  • The new Onryo condemnation strat is busted, for sure. But an Onryo player playing basic hit and run and not using condemnation as their primary goal? I don't see the problem. And there are Sadako players out there who don't play the way you are describing.

Of course the problem is that with these changes we have a bunch of new Sadako players leaning hard on the new new strat, so the fair Sadako players seem few and far between.

And playing a non-condemnation-first Sadako is work, let me tell you.

  • I don't often bleed people out, but when I do, it's usually in the Badham preschool basement.

DBD is the only PVP game in the world where the community hates players for actually killing their opponents.

I don't want to only play Nurse/Blight, and it's overkill to tunnel with them anyway. But with weaker killers it can often be either essential or most reliable way to win.

First off, I gotta respect going mask off and just embracing being a DBD heel, so kudos for that.

And as for how to tunnel: be anything north of useless in chase, run passive slowdown perks of your choice, find a surv, down them, rinse and repeat. This isn't quantum physics.

Responding the quoted post - DBD is also one of the only PvP games out there that is almost totally unbalanced on every level.

People hate to hear this, but it was designed to be a party/fun/goof off game, and at its core, that's still what it is. People like to "win", but most people playing DBD just want to have fun.

Matchmaking is unbalanced (to an absurd degree), maps are unbalanced, killers are unbalanced, RNG is almost always a dominant factor in every game. There are very few (if any) PvP games in which actual player skill is less determinant in outcomes (the only exception to this is in the "comp" scene, where there are arcane rule sets and you only see the same 3-4 killers, and everyone has 10k+ hours).

But if people want to employ the least nuanced and most miserably boring tactic in that game (tunneling) because they somehow think winning at DBD means absolutely anything at all, more power to them I guess.

Imagine if the Alien was the first ever killer that doesn't have a terror radius, and instead of a heartbeat survivors pick up motion trackers to keep a bead on where the Alien is at? To counter this the Alien would have to be faster than any other killer, but I would love to see the devs testing radical ideas like this.

If we can't get new game modes, then let's get killers and survivors that spice things up. Nicholas Cage was a great example of a survivor coming with perks that are fun and weird, and I want more of that. Vanilla DBD has gotten very stale and boring, and we need something to spice up the gameplay.

This seems really cool and the Alien motion tracker is pretty iconic. That said, knowing where the xenomorph is at all times wouldn't really fit it thematically.

Unless you had it so the tracker would only pick it up when it was close. This would still be powerful info, so as you say, they'd have to make xeno really quick. The downside to that would be that people would probably just hold W every time the tracker went off.

I really like the idea of the wall/ceiling climbing xeno, but not sure how the game's physics would deal with that.

Whatever they have done, I'd be shocked if it isn't stealth based.

why do people cant accept just a small event , it seems like everyone expect a giant thing with a lot of new mechanic every months.

the event is okay IMO , good free cosmetics, the decorations looks nice and soo far i havent seen something broken related to it .

Seriously. It's something where there's usually nothing. It's not like it replaced the anniversary or something. Some people just live to feel wronged somehow.

Blast Mine is one of those things that's just plain annoying.

It's actual impact on a game is usually minimal. It's very much like blinding a killer when they break a pallet. It's a cheap, risk-free shot, It buys you a couple of seconds while it disorients the killer, but is ultimately pointless.

This. its mildly annoying at worst, with very little game impact.

I may have had one gen finished in my face while I was stunned, but can't think of any other notable time it was anything other than a slight nuisance. As a surv, I only run it occasionally because it looks funny.

  • What's up with the matchmaking is that it is barely there, as always.

I mean it is baffling, but it's also totally business as usual.

  • Because she's busted on a fundamental level. The only way to make her fair would be to completely change her power, and at that point you might as well just remove her.

And can you imagine the uproar if a long time character were deleted or changed completely? Isn't gonna happen (thought it would be amazing if it did).

Just look at it like this: games against Nurse aren't really even the same game; the killer isn't playing DBD, they're playing Nurse.

I don't even get mad, I just switch on the autopilot and start thinking about my next game as soon as I hear that first blink. Sometimes the Nurse sucks out loud and you win, by I don't really care either way any more.

I look at facing 4 man SWFs the same way as a killer. I don't even consider it a real match.

  • TBH, I feel bad for anyone who spends any time in the post game chat.

Turn that ish off (and never turn it back on), your life will immediately improve.

  • Is that your takeaway?

The issue is not that he couldn't down the survs, the issue is that he couldn't down the suvs and for absolutely no discernable reason the survs prolonged the game to an absurd length when they could have just finished the last gen and left at any time. One can only assume this was just because they could, and being that much better than their opponent got their little rocks off and they wanted to revel in it. Just toying with them because they could.

That sort of thing is just pathetic. It's sad behavior you see from people who want to feel powerful because they don't often get the chance. I'd bet an internal organ that people like this often get absolutely bodied by some killers and it eats away at them.

I've been both the hammer and the nail many times in this game, and when I know my opponent is grossly overmatched I'll do one of two things:

    1. Farm/show mercy
    2. End the game as quickly as I can so we can all just move on

I do this because I have been on the other side of those. But apparently empathy is in short supply for some people.

This isn't to say people can't have fun, but if your opponent isn't really a threat as all, what are you really accomplishing? How much fun is it, really?

It's not the extra distance that causes hits to not connect. It's more that you seem to get more distance in slightly less time than before. This causes the actual vault speed to be faster and the survivor's hitbox to disappear behind the window more quickly.

    This.

I'll preface this by saying vault hits have been busted in favor of the killer for as long as I can remember, and this is known. I've seen it more times than I can count, and even with latency, it's been obvious many times from the killer perspective. It's exasperating as a survivor, and amusing as a killer to when a hit registers when the surv has already hit the ground on the other side of a fast vault.

That said, what I have been seeing the past couple days is my hits missing before the survivor hits the vault, not on the other side of it (which is what always felt so dirty). Like the entire thing is slightly accelerated, not jus that the surv is now getting the appropriate amount of distance.

I haven't been sure if this was my perception, or if there is something to it.

I can't play Survivor without the Prove BP bonus. I cannot be bothered to turn the game on, just doesn't seem worth it. I hate feeling like this. Anybody else having this problem?

I kinda get that, but if that was all it took to put you off DbD, you were probably about done anyway.

I'm honestly fine with the new incentive system, between that and the reduced costs of stuff on the BW, I've never felt less in need of more BP.

I think the loss of WGLF, BBQ and Prove bonuses have been more than offset; keeping those all would just have been excessive in the new economy. I feel like this is a "not being able to see the forest for the trees" deal; overall we're doing better than ever with BP.

Of course I don't main one side or the other, I'll just play whatever side has the incentive on at any given time.

But it's like a phantom limb thing, you've got a new better limb, but you still feel something is missing.

Of course since Nic Cage dropped I almost never see the incentive on survivor, though I suspect that dynamic will flip once Alien drops and we're drowning in Xenomorphs. It's an ebb and flow sort of thing.

They need to rework her immediately cause this is very unhealthy for the state of the game; it's not balanced for solo-queue which is the biggest group playing this game.

For sure. Though as an Onryo enjoyer, my fear is that they'll hard nerf her and then be like "well, we tried" and leave her on the garbage pile.

  • I like facing Wesker, I just don't like only facing Wesker, lol.

Billy, Huntress, and SM Myers are also fun.

Like with Wesker, I think a lot of people hate some killers due to overexposure. Though a few really just are miserable to face (Nurse, Skull Merchant, Knight, Trickster)

I don’t play that way no matter what killer I’m using. My first match against her today was exactly what you described: we got two gens done but after that condemned was spreading so quickly we had to constantly stop for tapes and she moried all three of my teammates. Second match I was able to grab a tape right away but my mates weren’t as lucky. Strangely enough both times I managed to get hatch which has happened for me all of maybe three times in the past few months.

Yeah, even if you do exactly what is prescribed to counter it, you're still largely at the mercy of RNG. If the Onryo is aggressively trying to condemn your team and you all don't find tapes immediately (which can be hard if you all spawn together), you're in trouble.

I'm an Onryo player who never really tried using condemnation as my main tactic, but after being on the receiving end of a few of those matches, I decided to try a few to see if it was in fact that easy (spoiler alert - it was that easy, even when the survs did exactly what they should have done).

I expect some changes. I wanted Onryo to be buffed, but not like this.

  • Having the tape be destroyed was intended, otherwise you could just smack someone twice and give them four stacks. To my knowledge this does not turn off a TV; it just leaves you with two more condemned stacks and no tape.

The downside (from the surv perspective) is that this means the Onryo can deprive you of your tape and then immediately start applying condemned to you by TPing.

No TVs ever permanently turn off, but they never did. The ones that do have a much shorter cooldown (45s, down from 100s), though.

Basically, if an Onryo wants to condemn everyone, they'll most often run the iri tape (which limits you to being able to return a tape to one particular TV) and Mother's Comb (which creates a loud noise notification whenever a tape is taken). The allows them to find you, hit you (adding two stacks and removing your tape), and then immediately start TP'ing (often to another surv who has taken a tape), applying condemned the entire time.

It's not hard to execute, and can be absolutely devastating if you don't find a tape immediately (and often even if you do). If the player is any good at all (even just decent) and is out to condemn everyone, you'll spend the match running around trying to find tapes and getting very little else done.

If you are playing as the Onryo and want to get easy wins, that's how you do it. If the team isn't coordinated, they're gonna have a bad time, and unlike the old method where you had to slug and rely on survs to spread stacks by healing, you can just snowball condemned on everyone, and you can do it quickly.

Playing that way is not very nice, though, and will not earn you any friends.

  • I mean it's pretty much a lock it'll be indoor. It kinda has to be.

And even if it were nothing but hallways it wouldn't be any worse than the Singularity's map.

And I'm here for it, tbh (though I'm sure I'll grumble about it every time I load in as Huntress, lol). I miss Hawkins.

Plus the Nostromo seems ripe for some good ol' SM Myers hijinks

BHVR changes what they said 'a while' ago all the time. The only consistent thing is that what they say is temporary. Maybe in a couple of months or years, they're going to say something else again.

BHVR does waffle on a lot of things, but they haven't on this (the previous post explains why). If the content is licensed, the license holder (or outside artist) is gonna want actual money for each unit sold. Thus, they can't be free unless BHVR wants to foot that bill.

Yeah, WoO is only really useful to less experienced players. Better players already know the maps well enough (or should) to make the perk kinda pointless.

    Great beginner perk, though.

  • Bots or not, your chances of escape are proportional to the number of teammates remaining alive, so I treat them much as I would a live player. And in some cases, the bot is better than the player they replaced.

If you let the bot die just because it's a bot, you're just hurting yourself.

Only non-licensed ones get shard prices; they've been pretty clear about that.

Acid blood would go well as a mechanic with pallet stuns.

I'm imagining movement mechanics similar to a demo.

He's got tail jabs, acid spit if you go beyond just the movies, inner jaw moris, hive camouflage, facehuggers that could work like Victor, leaps that work like Wesker - he has it all! I might have to retire my maining of Nurse and Singularity for this majestic beast.

Or perk that breaks pallets that are dropped on you, a la spirit fury but better.

Again, not sure how you do eggs or facehuggers with a drone xenomorph.

I'm guessing we don't see anything we didn't see in the original movie, or at least the movies in general. I'd be surprised if they draw from the more obscure material.

  • Good luck with that in the new buckle up meta

The obvious thing to me also seems unworkable: crawling on walls/ceilings.

Leaping/pouncing seems to close to Demo for my liking.

We now have collision points for vertical/elevated structures, as Singularity can attach it's Biopods to them.

If you can attach a Biopod, why couldn't you have the killer leap to and from that same point?

I'm not keen on any type of egg-laying or vent-traversal. These don't fit with the Drones abilities. Only Queens lay eggs, and the vent thing only seems to be an aspect of the original movie due to it's setting, it's not in inherent power of the Xenomorph to 'generate magical portals that looks like air ducts'.

I agree to a point, vent traversal was a thing in the original, somewhat in Aliens, and in Isolation, iirc.

That said, most of the horror there was encountering a xenomorph while in the ducts, which obviously wouldn't be a thing in DBD.

But now that you point it out, clinging to a high wall and dropping down on unsuspecting survs would be hella fun. Not sure how that would work in indoor maps, though (kind of like how Hux's power sucks on indoor maps).

  • The obvious thing to me also seems unworkable: crawling on walls/ceilings.

Acid also seems like a good candidate, but I think the xenomorph would need to injure itself to make that work, which would be kind of weird.

Eggs/Facehuggers would only make sense if there was a queen involved.

Vents would require across the board map adjustments.

Leaping/pouncing seems to close to Demo for my liking.

A stealth kit with short range dash/speed burst might be something.

I'd be surprised if we don't see some sort of tail grab/strike.

Whatever it is, it seems like BHVR will have had to get creative; hopefully not anything to lorebreaking.

    Mori possibilities seem pretty obvious.

  • I've always equated "overtuned" to being too much was done to it; not necessarily making it too strong, but trying too hard to refine it and breaking it in the process. This could be making to powerful, or too weak. Just over cooked.

i'm not saying it's as big or iconic as Alien, even your desired Friday 13th is nothing compared to Alien, but FNAF is still iconic and recognizable. No reason to not call it License with big L

I get it, but a lot of people in circles like we run in forget we're in kind of a horror silo. FNAF is massive among Gen Y/Z horror gaming fans, but isn't going to mean anything to most people beyond that. Maybe more once the movie comes out, but we're not there yet. Heck, even among gamers at large, most didn't grow up playing FNAF and watching Markiplier vids.

Franchises like Alien and yes, even F13, just have way more brand recognition, and have a better chance to attract people who might not ordinarily play these sorts of games, and from multiple age demographics.

That's not to say FNAF wouldn't pull people too, but it just doesn't have the same pop culture weight.

If I had to create a tier list based on license "size" and recognition, if something like Alien is S tier, I'd have FNAF as like C tier, or maybe B.

All of this isn't to trash FNAF so much as it is to highlight what a massive get Alien is.

i know but they said it's two licenses with big L we will get, obviously there's probably no horror franchise bigger then Alien. But FNAF is still big L, every person knows it.

FNAF isn't big in the way Alien or FXIII is big, or even close. These are iconic licenses. Alien (especially if we get Sigourney Weaver) is a monumental get.

FNAF my be a huge deal at Weenie Hut Jr., but it's small potatoes in the broader horror-sphere when compared to some of the others discussed here.

Nope, you got DCed because you went afk. If you think you got bullied, you might want to improve at the game instead of just going the easy route and AFK. (Let alone that nowadays everything, including regular gameplay is called "bullying")

And in your particular case, if the Survivors got all Gens done, just open the gate and kick pallets or walls for two minutes.

First off, players shouldn't DC or go AFK, and I think the penalties are all justified.

And there's some truth in what you said, but we all know how matchmaking is. If the game is so mismatched that the killer can't get a down in 10 minutes, they're not going to learn much from it, and the surv team has no reason to toy around with them other than for the sake of it (powertripping), which is the ultimate in tiny d energy.

If the OP's account is accurate, that is bullying, not a perception issue. And yes, people cry bullying over all kinds of tiny crap. But exerting your power over another simply because you can and not because you need to is bullying.

If you're a little league team who gets thrown into a game against major leaguers who just won't take their foot of the gas, "get better" isn't constructive criticism.

If you play this game enough, you're gonna end up on one side or the other of a major mismatch (or lots of them, probably). If you're that much better than your opponent, just finish the game and go, ffs.

to me, the only thing she needs is to change how iri tape works, and remove her god DAMN LULLABY!!!! iri tape is the one addon that makes the playstyle so boring or so frustrating to go against, since her rework is NOT supposed to be played like how she was originally because it would be crazy strong, well, this is why its crazy strong lol. just nerf/rework iri tape and remove her lullaby so she can be an actual stealth killer and she'll be good to go

Yeah, she should have her lullaby removed. Once they added the visual TR, her stealth was crippled.

I'm assuming they walk these recent changes back quite a bit, but you have give her something (but fair) in return.

I didn't expect a Skull Merchant 2.0 to happen this soon

She's not SM 2.0, or even old condemned Sadako; the games end quickly.

I am sort of a Sadako main, but never really played for condemnation moris. But today I played three games with the iri tape and mothers' comb and went for it, and holy crap it was easy. So easy it felt dirty.

What's more, two of the three times the team immediately started grabbing tapes (what you should do) and kept grabbing them. They did exactly what they should have. The only difference was the games ended at 2 gens instead of 4.

I also hate that as a Sadako enjoyer, I'm not going to be able to play legit games without DCs and salty survs right off the bat.

I don't want BHVR to nerf her into the ground, but while she needed to be buffed, this wasn't the way.

  • PS5 (and sometimes Steam), and I see no reason to turn it off, unless you like long queues.

  • Lots of people who run it apparently think they're good enough to play injured, but almost always are not. When playing killer, I am A-Ok with this. No mither away!

I never run it, and the only time I was bothered by it as a killer was when Breakdown was bugged and people ran it with Boil Over.

  • Yeah, beyond any skill issue the EMPs are gonna have to get looked at again.

Also, Hux's power is somewhat limited on most indoor maps, and Overclock opportunities can be rare, and its short duration makes it kind of a non factor most of the time.

  • @Hannacia said:

Biggest problem at the moment is that there is never a TV to get a tape from when you need one. Even if you take one at the beginning with very high chance you have to return it sometime and get another 1.

I've died to the fact that i could not find tv while doing circles on the map since other survivors + Sadako were closing them.

Yeah, I died to a Sadako very quickly last night because I couldn't find a tape early (we all spawned on the same side of the map and my teammates snapped them up).

Also, grabbing a tape is only part of the solution because if she is running the iri tape add-on and mother's comb, she can see when you take a tape, and you can only leave the tape in one particular TV (like it was before), and the tape is destroyed if she hits you. If the player is even decent, this makes the new condemned strat pretty mindless to execute.

Sadako is probably my most played killer, and I have never played for condemnation (I keep in mind, and if it happens it happens, but I don't strategize around it),but while it didn't fully see it at first, this is almost too easy to do unless you're facing a coordinated SWF.

  • I wish they would stop dicking around with the tapes/condemned (though killing the old slug/condemned strat is good) and just buff her in chase, because that's really where she was hurting. But alas, it doesn't seem to be in the cards.

I've played a few games as Onryo since the patch and I've only had one condemned kill (though I don't play for them at all, really). And as has been mentioned, if you take a tape you're reducing the risk of being mori-ed in that way.

It's kinda powerful, but has counterplay and still better than the old slug/condemn strat was.

  • First off, like most other issues in the game, bad map balance is the malignant tumor metastasizing everywhere, and a huge driver of tunneling.

Secondly, tunneling is as much a player issue as it is a game design issue, and as such can never be eliminated, or even drastically reduced. Even if the game were so balanced it got Thanos off, certain people would tunnel. That's because it's the simplest thing to do, even when ineffective.

You see people tunnel a person and throw the match to do it frequently. It's either immediately effective, or the killer keeps doing it at the cost of the match because of the sunk cost fallacy (or they're just tilted).

It's a lizard brain strategy both when it works, and when it doesn't. Thus the prevalence.

The only way to stop it would be to provide so many protections that it breaks the game entirely.

It's not a matter of BHVR not caring or being "afraid" to fix it; it's simply an issue with no great solution, unless you can mind control people to just not do it.

  • @1ettuce said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3485637#Comment_3485637

Because it's literally just going around the map as legion or a stealth killer and only getting hits that will take minimal effort, just because you're applying pressure to multiple survivors doesn't mean it actually takes any skill or effort whatsoever

Bouncing around the map playing a meta hit and run game is the least brainless style one can use as killer. When executed properly, a hit and run playstyle feels oppressive, but it's hard to pull off against decent+ survs.

Successfully applying pressure to multiple survivors at once (if the survs are any good) may be the hardest thing to do in the entire game. It takes awareness, strategy, and effort. If you're not good you'll get owned.

Now tunneling? That is brainless. Find surv, Keep them in your sight until dead, repeat. It's lizard brain stuff. Successful hit and run is astrophysics in comparison.

I know a lot of people hated Hawkins, but I loved it because of it's unique map design.

It had: 3-way movement for loops (basically your traditional back and forth ways of running it, but there were stairs and platforms that provided additional ways to run loops), 1-directional god pallets (they were god pallets if ran a certain way, weak if ran the other way), and a few other cool things about it.

I still think it has the most underrated map design in the game, just most people did not care for the map since, 1. it was an indoors map and people hate indoors maps, 2. DBD players do not like "unique" stuff because it means they have to learn how to play around it.

I actually miss Hawkins. It was its own unique thing, and while I hated loading into it with certain killers, the change of pace was nice.

Also I'm a big ST fan, so I liked it for that reason.

The problem with this perk is that if it ever triggers on a survivor it means the survivors are playing badly. You should never be going down anywhere near your team mates. You should be running away from them so they can get gens done while you distract the killer. This perk is just going to let you steam roll the type of survivor teams you can consistently beat perkless if you wanted.

Hell if you're consistently getting infectious fright procs you're playing less than ideally. Talking a 16 meter range? That's just a skill issue on the survivors part

Well, that is the risk. If you're playing against good survs, you'll probably only get real value late in the game (when they might be teaming up to finish the last gen, or swarming for a hook save), but it can be a game changer in those scenarios.

I originally though that the 16-meter range would make this perk weak, but from my experience, it has actually been really good. And paired with STBFL you can easily snowball if Survivors decided to group up (which typically happens when there are less Generators remaining or all have been completed).

Ive also tried it out on a few Killers, and I think specifically Spirit and Slinger EXCEL at using this perk. Mainly since they can easily follow up their down with another hit, and with STBFL they can become a snowballing powerhouse.

Im really surprised I havent seen people use this perk more. And I think one of the strengths of this perk is specifically that no one runs it so you never expect it, which is why Im probably going to add this to my list of "favorite perks".

Ghostface; if you can catch survs grouped up and expose/hit one, it's a holy terror

  • I play quite few; my regular rotation are Plague, Executioner, Demo, Onryo, Myers, Huntress, Dredge, Trapper, Spirit, Artist, Doctor.

Killers I sometimes enjoy, just outside of my regular rotation: Pig, Legion, GF

Killers I would play, but I suck with them because controller: Billy, Oni

Killers I never play, not even for a daily: Nurse, Blight, Skull Merchant.

The rest I'll use for dailies or on rare occasion when the whim strikes.

  • In vacuum, Wesker is pretty fun to face.

In the context of 2/3 of your games being against Weskers, he gets truly, seriously old. You could say that about any killer you incessantly see.

Which is why the devs giving other killers some attention is called for, because variety is a nice thing.

According to Peanits in a thread a day or two ago, all Killers have about the same pickrate iirc.

Older numbers I've seen don't reflect that, and tbh to anyone who plays the game much that assertion is just ridiculous on its face.

    I mean, maybe so.

But you have to take into consideration that these Killers do seem to be doing well across all MMRs.

I'm sure some QoL and small buffs wouldn't hurt, addons passes as well. But you can't make Wraith or Trapper on par with Wesker.

Again, the kill/win rates have to be taken in context with the pickrates. A tiny cadre of specialists who are really good with a particular killer posting similar numbers to a much better killer with multitudes more users isn't a sign of the weaker killer's health.

I'd like to see a situation where you could choose any killer and at least a have loose approximation of the experience you'd get with any other killer.

Obvs you can't bring all killers into total line (especially not in a world there Nurse exists), but killer balance could be worlds better.

And yes, this might also mean kneecapping the entire S tier.

  • So just remove toolboxes altogether? Because that's pretty much their only purpose.

What percentage of DbD's playerbase is "good"?

Should those Killers all just be buffed to compete with good players and just have them totally curbstomp average players?

I don't think the goal should be to adjust killers to be in line with different tiers of players (in terms of skill), but to bring them more in line with each other in terms of power.

Having killers vary so wildly in their viability isn't good game design, and it's not good for players.

That's not to say there shouldn't be any variance, but currently for your your average player, using a D tier vs. an A/S tier killer is almost like playing a completely different game.

Bring the killers into some semblance of a power baseline and then balance the game overall. I can't think of many games where you can juice or handicap yourself so much based solely on character choice/preference.
