I've seen this on a couple of threads now: What's the one thing you wish you had known when you were a new player - that one tip that would help you immensely in game?

For me, when playing killer, I wish I had known that the survivors could see your red stain (it took me a while to figure this out).

Wait... How could you not figure that out? When you were new did you just never play survivor? And even still, were you good enough for something like that to matter but still never figured that it out? I'm calling BS on that.

  • Got 3 Killer ones for you, thought about them a lot and they are from a post I did earlier.

    3 Killer perks:

You ever been in a situation where you can't swing a three gen, but pop is just not enough pressure to keep the game rolling? How about a perk that lets you swap progress with another gen?

After kicking a generator, this perk activates. The kicked gen is immediately put into the corrupt state after five seconds have passed, whatever generator the killer is staring at will have its progress swapped. This does not begin regression on EITHER gen, only swaps the gens. This will not synergize with pop, in order for that to happen you will have to kick the gen a second time. cooldown for perk is 120/105/90 seconds. (that is if we are still even doing tiers at this point expect a similar sentiment for the rest of the perks)

Kind of lame that only one killer can get hook progress without having to pick the survivor up... lets fix that shall we.

For every generator repaired, and when the end game collapse begins, the killer receives one stack of this perk. When the required amount of stacks is achieved, they can be consumed to summon a phantom hook on a downed survivor. After channeling for 3 seconds, a phantom hook will be summoned at the location of the survivor to instantly hook them. After a survivor is rescued from the hook, the hook will be destroyed. Survivors being healed cannot be channeled, and a survivor cannot be healed after channeling has begun. Tokens consumed per summon is 4/3/2.

Totems are lame. Survivors are always breaking my damn totems, but it takes to long to stop them even if I know they are working on it. I feel completely helpless and I certainly don't want to constantly drop chases and lose the game defending my totems. What to do, what to do... I got it, I will do it for them.

A blue hex totem is spawned and cleansing it does not remove this perk. Every time a survivor cleanses a totem, you gain one stack of this perk. For each stack of this perk the killers movement speed is semi-permanently increased by 1%/1.5%/2% for dull totems. If a hex totem is cleansed, one stack of bloodlust is also gained. Upon a generators completion, 1 stack will be removed.

    There are NO NEGATIVE STACKS.

The killer can no longer see hex totem auras

The killer can kick their own totems, doing so to hex totems removes their assigned perks.

Now I just need names for these...

This is the first time I can recall being bothered by language in about a year of being on this forum. It's fine if it doesn't have the same connotations to you, but it clearly bothered me enough to say something. I don't mean this as a personal attack - I just don't like the word.

It's frustrating that if someone is trying to gather further insight on this post by looking through comments and all they see is you and me going at it over a word. If you want to complain about the language filter then fine, go do that in your own post. If you want, how about we compromise here. We both delete our comments, and I'll change the word in the OP to robbed. Can you live with that?

"Distaste" was me being polite. I hate that word, since in addition to being vile it brings all sorts of alt-right connotations with it. You could use dozens of other words to you get your point across, since the meaning in context is basically just "screw".

Look dude, its just lame that your choice to engage with content was focused on mind policing because you are seeing politics where there are none. Maybe save that trash for some unhinged twitter rants or vote down if you get offended at less than .001% of the ideas here.

  • Something is off about that David pic tho... Like he looks bald but he started growing some grass on his head.

The art needs work but its a good start. Suggest maybe some sideways stills so that its a bit more unison looking? Don't even want to imagine what Nea and Quinten's would look like...

Now every single source of Mangled works like Sloppy Butcher and inflicts it until the Survivor heals. That means that Huntress, Wraith, Legion, Bubba, Deathslinger, Trapper, Pig, and Clown all got at least one of their add ons buffed.

This could be absolutely huge. Anyone else excited about this?

Wait... does that mean they get the blood drip increase too?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I agree with some of the points here and disagree with others, but tbqh I'm so distracted by my distaste for the word "cuck" that I'm having trouble staying focused on a reply. Petition to update the language filter.

If you have a better word then I'll use it, but it has to convey the same idea within just as many syllables and everybody else has to know what it means without looking it up. On that note, I don't like the word "distaste" as its repeated negative connotations are always to express ones elitist sympathies that give them a privilege to look down on others. Maybe we should update the language filter.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/194506/bhvr-opened-pandoras-box-so-now-what-happens-to-slinger

You cant change his zoning and ADS time for a few reasons:

    • He'll literally become a worse huntress
    • He'll become clown tier if not handled properly
    • He'll be super unfun to play
    • You NEED to zone against good players, good players can predict most shots and it's impossible to hit a zig zaging survivor.

Just keep slinger as is unless you want to destroy him "just because he's frustrating", and disappoint all the people who main him.

EDIT: I usually never say this but this is coming from a genuine slinger main who literally only plays him. Changing slinger is a bad idea.

Im q fan of never nerfing without giving a buff. If you nerf slinger, you need to buff something about him. This whole game needs to be redesigned if it will grow anymore.

    DBD 2?

  • What makes me unhappy about dbd is that they gonna keep building on this game onstead of making a dbd 2 where the rehaul the systems and grt more creative with how chases, hooking, doing gens and other dated as mechanics work. I would love to see a second dbd that makes it darker and has a more enhanced movement system that creeps me out.

    Its time.

  • I think Fazbear Pizzaria is a cool idea, but just the map. Idk if having the anamatronics playable is a good idea, bug a map sounds really neat, but also really small.

    Noed does reward losing

I don't get how? IMO, the match ain't over until the end game screen. There you can decide your "losing" or "wins".

There are different builds and different playstyles killers can choose, as well as survivors. I don't see how any of it is a reward for losing. You could make the same argument against adrenaline, it is a reward for losing. You get downed, and it is a free up once the gens pop.

Further, if the killer was chasing people that were injured, and then gens pop, boom everyone has adrenaline, full heals, or at least the person being chased does, they would have been instant down, but now they are full health, but OH wait... here's NOED! Boom. 1 shot... still... or you are injured already and still one shot, noed wouldn't make a difference to you. Honestly, it seems balanced to me. And this is coming from my opinion as a survivor, btw. (I'm just pointing this out, which happens in games)

I think of either situation(s) as involving strategy, you planned ahead during the lobby or not even the lobby when you looked for a match. You plan for certain situations, some perks are only FOR certain situations. Sometimes, you never get to use them, it happens. Situational perks are just that, situational.

I feel like I need to point out, even if the killer has NOED that does not mean you can't escape. Most of the time it means you most likely shouldn't go back for the save, unless you know where the totem is or could be... it's not a instant victory perk for killers...

You are correct, its a strategy that is in the game, but its a bad strategy and it is dumb to have in the game. I said the same thing about old ds, moris, bnp, and insta heals. They are in the game, but they are the unfun things in the game. I also think swf is super unhealthy, but they at least have stripped off tools like instaheals and stuff like that. Proxying a hooked survivor is not fun. Movespeed and instadowns is stupid strong and frankly needs reworked. I have a lotnof possible fix ideas for the perk, but present state is dumb.

  • @Blackowt_9120 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/93266/the-last-noed-post-we-need

People get upset with NOED because they don’t do bones and feel entitled to escape if all the generators are done. Reward for failure on the survivor side would be keys and instaheals. Especially keys. You can apply enough pressure that survivors don’t finish a single gen, close the hatch, and someone can still escape. That’s rewarding failure. NOED does not reward failure.

Noed does reward losing, and saying it counters gen rushing is like saying, i should get to clean up house if survivors do what they are suppoded to. Im not saying gen speed is in a good spot for swf or anything, but frankly the fact that keys in insta heals which i agree reward failure, does not justify that noed is in a good spot. Personally totems need reworked anyway.

I hopped on the pc version to try em out and they seem a lot better. Issues here and there but they've come a long way.

    Good job.

For example of issues hit delay on huntress hatchets and myers sometimes stalks through walls.

Also survivors get through hatch when killer closes it. Makes me question what intentions are with the design

  • @Blueberry said:

So survivor shouldn't be able to tunnel gens then either right? Not fun for the killer having them pop so fast and end the game before he has a chance to play much. You have to switch gens every 15% so you aren't tunneling them, sounds fair? If you do you get banned.

You realize how ridiculous this sounds right?

Advocacy for a ban hammer on gameplay is ######### stupid

Your logic is so beautiful. I can't understand why no one else can see it.

Console rank one's would probably max out at rank 5, 6, 7 save the very few truly good ones.

How is this hard to grasp???

The people who got ghost face nerfed are the same ones saying "pc advantage" or dont realize the real problems console players are faced with

  • @Justice said:

I love how most PC Players think that all console killers are trash and miss swings because they don't have a mouse. Your mouse sensitivity doesn't matter when console users are granted auto aim, which can be upped even more when cross platform eventually comes.

I agree completely with OP, it would up the player base on both sides and is a win win. Also if they keep trending into a stealth direction then any PC advantages slowly dwindle the more Surviving is reliant on hiding and mind games rather than looping and BS 360's.

It's shocking to hear I know but there are some VERY good Console Killers, I happen to pride myself on being a damn good Nurse with a controller on Xbox.

This isn't a FPS where you have to be dead accurate. You just have to aim a swing in a general, very forgiving, vicinity and you'll connect. And for survivor it's even less so. As far as the disabling effects with customization who really, honestly, gives two damns.

I'm entirely convinced that any PC player who doesn't want cross platform is a entitled PC Master-race mouth breather, while any console player who doesn't want it is a baby killer/ survivor who is scared of any change and enjoys 10 minute Killer queues.

    Claps for you sir. Cheers

  • @LordGlint said:

@TheDuhJ ironically, chainsaw curving is tied to "controller sensitivity" on PC, NOT mouse sensitivity

What people are miasing is the crazy benefita that occur when you play with people on different platforms

    Shorter que times

Lower likelihood of cross region games

    Better hosts for your games

Higher skill cap necessary for console

This is an overall win for console, behavior just loses money on ppl trying to dump money on every platform which is the real reason we dont have ctossplay to begin with

  • @FireHazard said:

@TheDuhJ No, I'm saying most PC players have an advantage over most Console players.

But if you've played hundreds of hours in Console, you could be just not, if not better! Than a PC player. It depends on what you use to play DBD with, try playing Killer with a controller, its WAY different than playing with more control on a Mouse & Keyboard.

I exclusively play killer with controller. Its not so different. Really, maybe nurse and huntress. You also cant chainsaw curve as easily with billy on console. But besides that its not bad once you get used to it.

  • @FireHazard So then would you say that most people are better than anyone on console?

  • @LordGlint said:

Who's upvoting like ALL my posts?

    Itsa me dog

  • @ermsy said:

@LordGlint I don't know what rank an average console player would be in comparison but definitely lower. Probably rank 10 and below. A journey of a console killer would be horrible as well. It'll come to a point where you'd win or lose based on whether you'd play against console or PC and that isn't fun.

    Huh?

  • @ermsy said:

    @TheDuhJ

I'm just asking so that I can make my point. So you don't want to play because your PC is a box of cheez-nips and underperforms and gives you a disadvantage.

Then why can't you emphasize with console being in a similar situation if cross play was available?

Lol, cuz its not the only reason. I also said i had the game on ps4 and got everything for it and dont want to buy all the dlc for pc again just so i can play with my bro. Plus, i like having my gaming on my ps4 cuz i like my console. I like playing on ps4 generally better than pc even if im subjected to poorer optimization and things alike. Im not 1 bit inconsistent.

  • @ermsy do you even read the whole posts i put out? I said my PC is a box of cheez-nips.

  • @Bithard are we money shaming ppl now?

  • @ermsy Two reasons:

1 I like playing most of my games on console cuz i prefer sitting on my couch, and playing with a keyboard makes me tense up and i play better relaxed.

2 My brother bought me a PC copy so i could play with his decked out character, but i bought all the dlc on ps4 and share play with him so we both have everything on ps4.

Bonus point: my pc is literally a meatball sub from subway

  • @ermsy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/551612#Comment_551612

d@LordGlint there would definitely be more of a challenge, better yet I have a challenge on you if you play on PC. Next time play via controller and try to cap your frame-rate to 25 as that's the average on console and maybe we can see some common ground.

@TheDuhJ what evidence? Do you not know the issues console has with it's optimization, framerate issues etc? and you don't think that will have an effect on gameplay vs someone that doesn't have those issues? I feel like you're trolling me.

Obviously i do, i wrote the first post and play exclusively on ps4 despite owning a pc copy cuz my pc is made of spaghetti and meatballs.

But im not trolling, i want crossplay despite all these little things because rank (though not perfect) I believe will make these optimization problems a non issue cuz even with beeter optimization on pc, there are still potatoes and unless you are so good that you get to rank 1 on console, you wont see any rank 1 pc killers.

  • Close, what im saying is that a perk that is as strong as mettle of man is fine being strong if the player is not in control of the power. My point is that there should be a better activation than 3 protection hits as this requires a survivor to play stupidly to activate the perk and the killer could deny them the oportunity if they catch on to the survivors goal.

    @Cymer said:

Do I understand you correctly: you complain that the activation of a power is in killers hand and that sucks?

Like that Plague and Ghostface need the mercy of the survivors to use the full scope of their powers?

I think, I can understand your frustration and the desire to own your perk/power.

MoM is still a strong Perk. It now require some effort from the survivors but simultaneously it promotes team play, what I love. Help out your team, stop being a selfish m1 simulator and interact with the other players (survivors and killer alike).

  • @NoShinyPony said:

Two protection hits can be acquired too easily, so that's a no from me. But I understand that the current MoM often doesn't feel like a useful perk. So why not totally change that perk? Here's a suggestion I made in a another thread:

Make it a perk for a hooked survivor to protect themselves from yolo saves.

It has the same effect as BT. If the hooked person runs MoM and gets unhooked in the killer's terror radius, the killer's hit would only put them in the Deep Wound status instead of downing them.

    Kinda like this idea

  • @[Deleted User] said:

If what qualified as a protection hit wasn't so broken most of the time, MoM would probably be fine as it currently is.

Rather than buffing the perk with broken protection hit detection in mind, I would prefer they just fix protection hits to y'know, actually work, and if it's still too ######### to use after that, then we could look at something else.

Regardless, and I don't enjoy saying this, but MoM is more healthy in the game in a useless state, than in the state it was before where it effectively neutered over 2/3rds of the killer roster just for existing to the point where 90% of the matches I played as survivor for a short time were literally just Hillbilly after Hillbilly after Hillbilly after Hillbilly.

Agreed, new MoM is healthier for the game than old MoM without question. But we should be striving for making a perk like MoM which was behind the only solo survivor bhvr makes you pay for do be worth more than just a cosmetic upgrade (which for some is worth it, totally cool with that) a perk that has some viability.

I get not all perks can or should be meta, but not once have we a perk go from god tier to trash tier in 5 weeks that you have to buy (unless you pick it up on shrine i guess). It took them close to 2 years to figure out decisive and refuse to touch noed. This action by behavior is radically inconsistent to me. And you cant bring up autodidact as it was only good in the ptb.

  • @LordGlint said:

@TheDuhJ I honestly think the confusion lies in the thought you'd face your same ranks counterpart, and a rank 5 PC gamer would stomp a person currently rank 5 on console. If it was cross platform though, those ranks would be readjusted. You wouldn't face anyone way out of your leave, although you might have to eat some humble pie with a lower rank by your name.

The way i see it is that if you are a red rank survivor on console and you are bored as hell with what goes on currently, then you want crossplay.

If this happens red ranks on console now will have to step up their game. And those who want to get even better will have to, and those who dont want to get better will just derank naturally. Ranking is currently more meaningful.

I want the new challenge and think it would be a net win for behavior.

  • @ermsy said:

@LordGlint because it's not the same skill, it's people relying on the hardware rather than skill. My problem is that I don't want to play against someone that has a clear advantage against me purely from me playing console. It would promote deranking from console players so that they'll avoid these unfair games and it would promote deranking for PC players so that they can grief the console players.

I'm curious, what platform do you play on?

What evidence could you possibly have to suggest the biggest reason ps4 players would lose to pc players is because of hardware choice

  • @ermsy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/551440#Comment_551440

Nobody is talking about skill level or playing in the same rank. Just because there are people that use weaker PC's than the consoles shouldn't disregard the difference between the two platforms. People that have weaker PC's have the option to upgrade, people on console do not. And match-making will be better...at first but population on console will slowly dwindle because of it's limitations. Why play on console when the opponent has a clear advantage?

If we use a different game as an example, let's say overwatch. A diamond tracer player on PC will always be better than the tracer on console purely because of the systems limitations.

Stepping in here, there are massive differences between a game like overwatch and dbd.

Fps games in general are easier to play with mouse and keyboard. We are simply not comparing apples and apples here.

Overwatch ranked is also really competitive and completely optional, whil rank in dbd serves to make better matchmaking and is mandatory (unless you just play kyf i guess)

Unless its nurse, if you are a survivor and can loop, you can still beat any pc killer if you can read the slightly better mindgames a pc killer could utilize.

I think survivors and killers who dont want crossplay and play mostly on console are worried that they will have to get better at the game and its just too much to ask of them. I think ranking would make this a nonnissue though

  • I think noed and ruin in the same build is evidence you cant play killer. I got ideas for noed that could be fun.

  • @ClogWench said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/550799#Comment_550799

Not hitting them can benefit them too though. You're either letting them body block or you're dropping the survivor and losing a bit of momentum. Some perks have indirect bonuses

Thats a good point, it would be stronger in swf situations where they make you hit them, but gotta love whipping someone who begs for punishment, plus maybe give you a reason to run mad grit? Just a funny thought.

  • @bevdog67 said:

One thing you need to put into consideration when evaluating a perk is the time it saves or wastes when you use it. For example, people like to use brutal strength because after kicking generators and pallets at a slightly faster speed, you have saved about 15 or 20 seconds by the end of the match. This is pretty good! Sloppy Butcher is great because you can save a TON of time as a killer making survivors heal for longer (an estimated 20sec-50sec per match). MOM is VERY powerful. A survivor can waste anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes extending the chase, and then you have to keep in mind that all four survivors can run it. DS has a similar time-wasting effect. This is why, even though it is very hard to activate, it is balanced.

TLDR; Killer perks are run when they can save 10-20 seconds because every second counts in a match but MOM can waste minutes of a killers time with no counterplay, hence its difficult activation effect.

I get what youre saying but i cant go all the way with you. Because a killer doesnt have to give a survivor a protection hit. In the same way how long ruin stays up is controlled by survivors, the killer can decide whether or not he hits the survivor. Also survivors typically will heal afterwards, so theres sone circular logic here. Still considering time is pretty valuable data and you have a good idea there.

  • @KillermainBTWm8 said:

It needs a change to 3 or 4 Safe Unhooks doing Protection hits usually doesn't benefit your team one bit plus how inconsistent it is to get protection hits. You will be wasting so much time getting protection hits that it is worthless.

The question I have is would the protection hits be worth it if you got mettle of man. Plus there is counter play for killers, as they dont have to hit surviors going for protection hits. I agree that protection isnt consistent and should be addressed.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

Crossplay between like Xbox One and PS4 would be fine, but crossplay between consoles and PC might be too unbalanced. What I really want is just to have one DbD profile that is shared across all platforms. Buying the game again is fine, but the grind is ridiculous, and I'll never make the switch from PS4 to PC if I have to re-purchase all the DLC. That's just too much.

Idk, I think it would be fine considering that this game isn't really competitive, and the player base on consoles isn't huge, so to make up for this they make you play cross region, which makes the timing of sensitive perks nearly impossible. If they made it cross platform they could region lock it again making that stop on console (which happens cross region 1/3 games). I play console exclusively and would much rather play a game with sweaty ass survivor and killers on pc that have to deal with unplayable lag in cross region matches.

  • I like the ideas here as i play on ps4 also.

I like the left behind and no one left behind skills. Auto didact getting skill check increase makes sense, but the perk is hard to get going to begin with. Why not just make it so you can go up a health state per skill check at 5 stacks. Its rng already and its taking up a perk slot where you could use will make it or botany which are way more consistent. Devs should have some balls with this and reward you for playing with the perk and stacking it all the way.

  • @SurgDexil said:

The only perk I disagree on buffing would be Hope. Due to that being far too problamatic for killers. Sure they'll still be faster, but that speed has now close. You'll be surprised how a bit of speed can impact the game.

Normal survivor running speed is 100

    Normal Killers are 115.

    Special killers are 110.

Adding a permanent hope will make survivors normal running speed 107. That is only slightly slower than the special killers like Hag, Huntress, Legion, and so on.

Then the difference between the normal killers would be 8 point of speed. Which kinda turns them into the special killers in a way.

Nurse 96 (but she uses her powers to catch up to survivors, so Hope won't matter to her.)

However every other killer would make their lives near impossible to catch up to a survivor. Unless they're specifically design to be great at the chase, like Huntress (who ususally just hits you with Hatches anyways).

I feel like hope if given this kind of buff would make the killers lives already harder than what it already is. (But I guess it depends on the match sometimes).

Hope as it stands has always been more of a soft counter when NOED was at is strongest. (Ah the dark times of DBD.) Now in days, NOED is more in a balanced state. But Hope, well Hope is still there, while is not as relevant as Adrenaline, Hope has been now more of a soft speedboost for the newer survivors. While I never personally used it as a Survivor, hope is still more of a Meh perk now. Is nice for when you neee to loop the killer in the endgame, but giving a permanent speedbuff would make it a little too overpowered.

Now you'll probably say (oh but is End Game. Gates are usually powered and open by then. This is just to escape faster.) Hold your horses because I'm not done yet. You see on Endgame, unless the Killer has an End game Build (which I find rare, but sometimes you see people running Blood Warden from time to time) Killers either do what they can to secure the kill by camping means, or they do their hardest to snowball the gate before it opens. But the snowball part isn't happening against swf.

Now where was I again? Oh yeah Hope. Hope would be a bit too strong if given this buff. Hope, while not the most annoying perk in the game, if given this buff I can see a lot of killers complaining about it. Because a permanent hope is just too strong. Sure is still an End Game Perk, but let's not repeat the dark times of DBD.

Something should exist to counter noed

  • The problem with noed isnt its strength, its that it is not dynamic and acts as a crutch for tough games or bad killers. It insentivises killers to play the game in the least dynamic way because it prevents saves and a killer who gets someone down either camps the survivor, or leaves and tries to grt downs at gates which are likely open and relies on the stupidity of the survivor.

Plus, the fact it is a totem makes it a bummer if the killer relied ln its strength and has it ripped away. It is an awful perk because it teaches killers how to play poorly.

Dont criticize without suggestions so here is one. Make noed permenant buff at endgame (no totem) and instead of instadown at all levels, it removes survivors speed burst when they get hit. This does 3 things:

    Shortens chase times (like current)

Remains in play untill the game over

Adds a dynamic to dbd that is fresh and makes the perk unique.
