Trapper does have the lowest killrate in high MMR so I think you could argue that in this case Trapper's killrate does tell you, that he is not the best compared to the other killers.
What do you mean with "how much the Killer is played"? Do you think that killers who are played a lot have a high killrate?
kind of, as there is more players playing them. but its hard to tell since i have no clue what they base those numbers off.

The average DBD player doesn't boot up the Forums. They don't engage that way.
They load into a couple of matches every few days and it never goes further than that. It's a casual fun party game, it doesn't necessarily need to go any further.
I'm pretty mediocre at Survivor too. And you're right, I have no way of knowing, so I choose to trust people and assume they are acting in good faith until proven otherwise.
well that might be true, but i still can be a potato while still invested and addicted to dbd.

Same can be said about killers claiming they're having fun in solo and it's in a good state.
nice try, but i alredy said in one of my posts how i might care a little less for soloQ than killer, cause my overall expectations are lower. Just show me a post where i said soloQ is in a good state though.

How are they not taken into account? Those players influence the killrates. They appear in the all MMR killrates, what are you saying? The only matches they don't take into account is the ones with the DC, which depending on the time the teammate DCed is not the same. Someone DCing after their first down is different than someone DCing when they're about to get hooked for the third time. In the first case they've doomed their team unjustly so of course the following match won't be representative of how the game would have continued if he played normally, in the second case that persons has already been useful. If the person in the second case DC's that match won't count although it's not much different from playing it out and him dying, he was going to die anyway, but now this match is not counted in the killrates despite the DC in this case not making any difference.
In the first case though it has a bigger impact for the team.
a trapper game where he played basement and got a 4k and a trapper game where he played him the conservative way but got also 1 or 2 k are not the same, yet they both add towards the killrate. Now, aside of maining him or low mmr lobbys, trapper is a struggle against good survivors, i think there is no denying in that. So if you have a ton of 0k games but also some couple of 4ks by the amount of players this game has, mains and players that just picked him up counted together, their kilrrate doesnt say anything.
its like those statistics that measure how rich a country is, taking the millionaires and poor people ALL into account and calculating the incomes of each famillys together. So with a couple of rich people, it still can be deicisive how wealthy the average locals are.

Most likely, yes, he wasn't quite up to par. It's not unusual for someone to play a new Killer and be outmatched.
If you're on the Forums and have more than 50 posts, that's WAY more than the average player.
the amount of my posts say nothing about how good or bad i am as a killer player. It could even be i never touched killer, only playing survivor and just act as if. You'd have no way to know.

Sadako and Nurse have about the same winrate in high MMR.
Sadako is much better than people give her credit for but she has a way of making a lot of distance with her TV's which is really important for killer (see also Dredge).
Nurse swaps most game mechanics other killers have to deal with with being a bit more skill intensive that's why she can have higher highs (Nurse slugging everyone within 5 mins or less) and the lowest lows (52% winrate for all MMRs).
Killers are all viable because they have over 55% killrate. Of course some are better than others, no one is debating that, but a person who is used to playing a killer that can bypass game mechanics survivors have (like say looping) or has no way to making distance because he has to walk everywhere is of course gonna be dumbfounded when trying to play Trapper. Trapper has no passive slowdown to his abilities unlike say Pinhead and Pig. So you cannot make up for time being lost on him, you really need to understand the fundamentals of the game to be effective and relying more on game knowledge because mechanically he has nothing to offer. Even Trapper can be snowbally if he gets an early basement hook, good luck saving that guy if killer has trapped the basement.
This is usually again true for most games. There are characters who are there to be an easy introduction to the game and make you learn the fundamentals. Usually they're middle of the road as far as their power is concerned. If you cannot play the fundamentals well of course you're gonna underperform with them or if you're used to playing someone who can bypass core mechanics.
Your example is like me saying, I got 4k as Trapper, how does he have any problems? It's really silly.
If I managed to run a Nurse for 3 minutes does that mean the killer is trash or that the player playing them was outplayed?
I just got 3E against a Blight on Dead Dog saloon with compound 33 and adept perks. Regardless, that map was in his favor cause it's tiny and we still did all gens and could have saved the teammate who died if we weren't solo. Is that enough proof that Blight is bad because the guy playing him isn't running the most optimal build or even know how to play him?
I mean you said it yourself, the guy had never played Trapper. Are we now gonna take that into account when talking about killrates? Trapper is performing worse than most killers, but at the same time he is performing way better than before. Could he get some tuning to make him better? Yeah probably. And I say this because of the stats BHVR provided for us. Your example is an anecdote.
yeah i can play freddy also 10 times better than nurse. but these killrates still dont mean anything, you just provided so many scenarios that are not taken into account when we talk about killers killrates. I see it more as a "how many people play that killer"-rate than "this killer is that strong"-rate.
Well if i think about it it doesnt even show how many people play the killer. Cause freddy would be the second most played then, which he is definitly not. So i dont know what good information this numbers should provide us other than "look, killers now generally have higher rates, we got what we wanted."

I gave an explanation of why Pig has historically had high kill rates despite being considered weak on the Forums.
It's because she's a noob stomper and is very good against the average DBD player. To them, she's OP. To us? Not so much.
And they are completely correct. Trapper does have a 57% Kill Rate. He averages a 2K.
so that makes trapper a strong killer? The player that played him called trapper trash, this was the response. 57% killrate. So that player was just bad?
also who is the average dbd player? i see myself as a casual too. What are those numbers based off? just sacrifices?

From what I can tell, each survivor has a set of profiles that can be pulled from when you load a bot. Each profile has a set of behaviors they follow. Some are pretty simplistic, others more intelligent. Some are downright aggressive, and some very closely match player behavior.
I played a bot game with one of the Jakes (05?) where the guy didn't work a gen in three trials I played vs him. I know, because I was playing Plague and he never got sick unless I sprayed a pallet or window ahead of him during a chase. But he did stealth around and pull other bots off hooks and heal them.
Meg 03 seems to be a decent runner/looper, while Zarina 02 is a pallet-throwing mo fo. One of the Mikaela profiles is pretty good with a flashlight, while another Mikaela profile is horrible with it.
I've even had some BM me after throwing a pallet.
I've not tested yet if there's a coloration between MMR of the killer you're playing and the type of bots that will spawn, but it's pretty clear that each survivor profile is at least somewhat distinct.
oh thats interesting. Makes me wish you could actually choose the survivors manually and their profiles.
-
I havent been able to really judge on it based on the last days i played. Too many dcing and suiciding on hook going on. No matter if i play killer nor survivor.
Used to have some very good soloQ rounds though.
-
Badham has a version where litteraly 3 pallets spawn close to each other around a few concrete block tiles. Its at the end of the street, where also shack is placed on the edge of the map leading into the second main building.

i would have no issiue with it, as long as there are actually cool things in it besides only recolor stuff.

It's more nuanced than that.
Nurse is not a strong Killer...for most of the playerbase. I'd estimate there's about 200K players on DBD on any given day across all platforms. If 10% (high estimate) of those players are "high mmr", that's only 20,000 players.
The vast majority of this playerbase is casual. Every Killer is viable at a casual level, some are even considered OP. That's why they're called noobstompers and have had historically high kill rates. Pig comes to mind.
pig is op? you litteraly just said pig is op did you XD
But yes, it IS more nuanced than that. So just going off numbers isnt the way to go, thats what im saying. Either go by simply numbers and sadako, pinhead and i forgot who the third is, are top 1 killers and freddy is second best or we dont and then we all agree there is more to it than just the numbers.
the example i provided was someone talking smug about how trapper has whopping 57%.
-
@danielmaster87 said:
They really don't. The 63% win rate for killers or whatever it is could mean getting a draw on like 80% of those matches. "Wow, that's way too high performance for killers!" sounds a lot less hip when you take that into account.
yes. From farming matches, too draws, to last second camps all of it doesnt really get respected in those numbers. BHVR just makes it easy for themselves by saying "escapes and sacrifices are the only skillful play" i also would be surprised if a killer has less than 50% killrates, because that would either mean he is REALLY bad or i dont know what else.
-
@Nazzzak said:
If they've just started playing him then I'm not sure what other result was expected. Maybe I'm in the minority, but a new killer probably isn't going to do well until they've had a bit of practice.
so you also think because his killrate is currently 57% he is strong? Not outdated at all yeah?
if you answer yes im going to ask you if you think sadako is stronger than nurse.
-
@DemonDaddy said:
Kills have almost no relation to the flow of a match. A 2k (devs ideal balance) can be almost anything:
2k=2hooks: 1 chase each and camped to death
2k=10hooks: full # of chases
Just seems like there is a massive amount of wiggle room for this intended result while also ignoring the context through which it is reached.
You have a great point about the pick rates though. If a killer is selected by a smaller group of better players, then the results will have higher averages then those used by a greater majority.
exactly, i think people that play trapper regularly main him. Im not saying he cant do ish, any killer can get kills, there is human factor too. But acting like he is super strong because of 57% aint true at all.

@JustAnotherNewbie said:

You said in your first post the Trapper just picked up the killer.
I'm surprised instead of Trapper you didn't mention Nurse. You're not supposed to pick up a killer and do well with him (or are you?) especially if what he plays normally has nothing to do with Trapper's playstyle. If anything simple killers can shed light to a players weaknesses because they cannot bypass game mechanics such as looping or decision making regarding checking a gen or going back to hooked survivors etc, since for killers without a teleport those actions take longer.
Simple killers are all about the basics of the game and less the mechanics, you need to have good understanding of the game to make those work well. And this is true for many games, because usually a character that cannot do crazy things mechanically has to make up for it in macro. Skill intensive characters usually can reach higher highs (as in completely stomping) but also lower lows (completely sucking).
so you dont think trapper is outdated and you agree sadako is stronger than nurse? I assume they just picked up trapper, but saying because he has 57% killrate he is a 'strong' killer aint true at all. I just try to figure out what people actually think. Either we go by killrates and so nurse is not the strongest killer or we dont and then we can take a look at the killers individually and measure how strong they are.

I say according to that definition cause people on these forum have pretty vague definitions, so I honestly dont know what definition the next person is dealing with. Been talking to people who say even the slightest bug is cause for delay.
No I dont assume my experience is the only one, Why would I?
It seems as tho me mentioning that has set you off, it was not my intention. If we work from the mindset that my game working isnt valid for the game being ready to release, then when someone always have a graphical issue with each new patch so that would mean that all releases of this game would NOT be fit for release, which I think is just ridiculous.
The patch working on my PC is a valid experience too you know.

The PTB is only for fixing glaring issues, its not for fixing bugs, that's for first hotfix patch. Why? well because we have consoles whose companies need to run through it first. Its called Submission weeks, we been told before by devs that PTB is to get a head start on issues for release and head start on bugs for hotfix 1.
to sum up if you think PTB is for fixing all the bugs before release, you are mistaken.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277311#Comment_3277311
Well depending of how easy it is to replicate, it could be easier to get mega data from the community on it. We don't have any numbers on how many games were affected of the power break, so what do we know? Nothing for sure except it happens. If we cant show that its hard to demonstrate it would be delay worthy.

You get me wrong. I wasn't trying to put any words in your mouth. It's my pure question because that's the topic. You said yourself that good survivors can hit great every time so they have info all the time. How is that "all the time" really? Again, I'm not trying to debate you or anyone, I just can't understand what the crazy value everyone talks about is. Maybe I'm missing smth or idk I just can't understand how can this be "survs now have too much info rip trapper yada yada". It is not your words too, it just seems you may be understanding this at least in theory.
oh i really got you wrong sorry for that. And while yes skillchecks are random, they appear very often. If people always hit greats then they see the aura of the killer every time. The only thing missing to be on SWF level is the fact they have communication, but someone who can hit greats in their sleep will have enough intel where the killer is at and be able to move and make decisions just the right time.
a killer however needs the unawareness, not knowing where he is so he can reach survivors before they change their spot and sneak past him. There is a couple of other aura reading perks, but afaik the ones are way more situational. Fogwise is basicly free aura just for hitting great skillchecks.
if i would hit greats more then i would run it too, it can be busted. But again i myself as killer didnt run into it enough to really tell how it is in praxis. Maybe i overestimate how people hit great skillchecks and its not as much as i think. Overcharge is a good example though. I stopped running it because they hit the skillcheck almost every time. yes it applies regression but other than call of brine it doesnt give you intel when they are back at it again. But thats a diffrent story.

And my argument is that the average DBD player isn't that good.
Trapper may not be super good at high ranks but he's going to be fine for 90% of players.
we just completely destroyed him in soloQ, 2 of us kept running into the same traps, one isnt a good looper (me).

The average DBD player isn't that good.
Also, Sadako has one extremely lethal playstyle that even comp-level teams struggle to counter.
That one playstyle does kinda need ALOT of dedication and practice, also map awareness, shutting down loops fast etc.. nothing i would try with her, when playing sadako i like simply the no TR and teleport, simmilar to freddy.
but the argument was because trapper had a 57% killrate he is not that bad, so if we go by that logic sadako beats nurse i guess XD

I wonder how can this be... Like ok, I really tried. I even brought Tapp's perk to make some skill checks great.
And I just don't know what's wrong here. I get those skill checks sitting on a gen with value not so great (I get more value more consistently with Spine Chill [and that's only one perk] or looking on the HUD). And what am I supposed to do with that information to make this perk OP for solo? Yay, I brought two perks and one item (toolbox) to see killer for 20 seconds while they are on the other side of the map, just like iri-key with addons, too bad I can't be in chase now. Yay, my toolbox ran out and now I got 2 skill checks per gen max, what a lucky guy. Yay, I am chased, healing and chased again, I'm dead or no more gens in game to get any value. Yaaaay.
Like, I don't say it can't be OP but what so crazy about this? I've heard about Coconuts's video but he gave up whole build and... still was attached to the gen to see anything. How can anyone compare this to old OoO?
sigh i didnt say fogwise is OP on solo... i said, FINALLY a perk that benefits solo without buffing swf into oblivion. Kinda sick of people trying to put words in my posts i didnt write.
even litteraly said i havent run in that perk as a killer enough to say it is "op" smh!

Lol while that's funny, Id like to see just one of these "nurse is easy mode" people use her against bots and record the full match to be viewed , if they can't absolutely body those bots then I can't take anything they say serious and it proves at the same time they're wrong about the character being too easy
Played my first two matches as nurse today, VERY first two matches. Against bots, purposely not running any perks or add ons, only using the mori offering.
first time i got like 1 hook and 3 hits done. Second match with the add on that does show you the blink i had 1 sacrifice and many more hooks. Bots still escaped in both matches.
im not sure if i want to try to get good with nurse, i will have to do A LOT practice before doing it. Imagine nurse players used to have to start in online matches.. They deserve the power of her. But i guess anyone uses her second blink add ons dont they? cause that one is short af.
oh and she gets stuck so much x-x
-
i always bring a mori offering to custom games. (because what else would i bring? maybe that fog thing XD )
in order to get to 2 hook states though i have to travel onto the opposite end of the map so they go and unhook, this particular one hasnt changed.
however i felt like they are doing gens more efficient than when they would in the beginning? but maybe it was because i played nurse my very first time, not having the add on that shows where your blinks go and didnt got many hits, thus not many hooks. Second match wasnt very diffrent, i had the add on though, but its still strange, the nurse really gets stuck on some tiles. So maybe them being fast was only me struggling.

I cant see how it would be OP. It requires being on a gen, hitting a skill check and not having an undetectable killer.
Good players hit great skillchecks all the time, meaning they have info all the time. Meaning they have the same amount of info SWF have. Its good for soloQ, its bad for killer.
i havent run in enough as a killer to call it "overpowered" in theory it sux from a killers PoV but it also sux to have to go against an swf in general. But then again, people say always if soloQ was equal to swf, balancing would be easyer. So you have 2 sides and not 3. I for one love that there is actually a perk that ONLY benefits soloQ.
i find quick gambit and potential energy more problematic.

If BHVR are biased towards one side at all, I think they don't realize. It seems to me they are trying to improve the experience for all players, killers and survivors. The problem is, that DBD is one of a kind. They can't look at other games and just copy their balance. They are pretty much pioneers in that regard, which is why a lot of things spiral out of control before they decide to work on that (like DH's 75% pick rate ore 6.1.0).
thats true, DBD is without competition basicly, which doesnt make it easyer to balance things because if they make mistakes they are the first ones to make them
-
thats something i dont understand aswell, hex are high risk, boons are not. Yet boons are replacable and hex arent.

I do not think that they are survivor or killer sided
That being said, I do think they are Noob-sided
The majority of their decisions (especially with balance) seems to be towards the noobs. It's why they might seem survivor sided because generally, a noob survivor is at a big disadvantage against a noob killer. It takes time and effort to truly figure out how to maximize playing survivor so BHVR balances to help them out.
Which in a way does make sense. A game doesn't survive for six years because they have a small but dedicated fanbase, a game like this survives by constantly trying to bring fresh blood into the mix. But fresh blood isn't going to stick around (and more importantly, buy DLC and Cosmetics) if they feel like the game is absolutely hopeless for them...
thats a very good take, not being sarcastic or something. An interesting view point because yes in low mmr lobbys i can totally see no info on knight being too oppressive. But then doesnt that also count towards artists birds or nurses blinks? If they start to balance every killer around low level, we might see many weak ones in the future.
and to all the other posters thank you, there is many things in this game that need to be worked on and balance is a never ending working point in any game, its just good to have the community say "listen its not like that." Its easy to get caught into thinking one side is prioritized over the other if you play one side more, all though i dont completely 100% only play killer.

Yeah that's your assumption, but any programmer would tell you an answer wont magically appear if you just put in time. It isnt always the case that time = results. Sometimes having over 100 000 users play a product is better at finding an issue than most QA teams.
You guys are just assuming the resulting product is caused by rushed development.
I would not call Knight unfinished, clearly the bugs only appear once you scale up the play.
well if it means he aint a victim of being rushed, -> he is intended like he is as now.. which leads us to some other VERY pressing issiues and questions.
yeah playes find bugs well better than QA.
but what about the dozens of suggestion to like make not his power readable like a book (orb removal, paths not shown etc.) we did in the PTB feedback section. And yet none of those suggestions made it live. I can only assume it is because of schedule. That is the most generous thing to assume because otherwise we have the issiue of it being intended as is.

how is it with the dcing going? i have never touched nurse because of to have learning blinks distance. I play all the sorts of killers and people DC because of the most willy nilly reasons, often when they get downed first.
had soloQ teammates do that too btw, so even when im not playing killer i see too much dcing atm. aint it way worse with the dc as a nurse main?

had a tree blocking litteraly shack entrance on crotus prenn in my last match. (not fully blocking i guess but it spawned next to entrance so you couldnt reach it from one side. also leaving a decisive gap making you think you fit throw but you dont.

I'm the same, I love Thrilling Tremors. Decent slowdown, often gives info, giving you somewhere to go after a hook (basically as reliable as BBQ)
I wouldn't run it with other gen blocking perks, particularly DMS and Pain Res, because you may be blocking the gen you want to Pain Res. I'd say it pairs much better with 'manual' regression perks, things like Eruption, Overcharge, etc. or even Jolt, as you can head towards the unblocked gen, either kick it or down someone nearby.
Often I run Thrilling as my only slowdown perk if I have a decent 'chase' build going on, as the info gets me back into the action.
i seem to not get any value out of BBQ, people jump in lockers to avoid it or are simply to close. Do you have any info perk suggestions for the dms+pain.res build aside thrilling?

I easily bypass it as a survivor. I check for thrilling tremors, and if I see it, then I'll just avoid it. Even though it might sound bad to purposely allow 16 seconds of no generator repair, I think it's more important to confuse the killer into thinking that no one is working on the generator.
The only exceptions are if I think I can complete the generator before the killer reaches it, or if the killer is camping that game and is not likely to travel over to the generator.
So people DO counterplay it! i had one or few moments where i was like. "wait werent they on that gen over there? why is it blocked?" And i might have had cases where i didnt notice at all. Thats good to know, thanks! When im playing survivor, in soloQ the least i want to do is to get off of gens if im not in chase atm, in swf we can coordinate a little better. But my friends are such jukers i hardly come into a situation where i need to make that decision in the first place.
i also rarely face thrilling tremors as a survivor so i always think people are surprised seeing it

that perk is overrated imo. i rarely use it because most of the times YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE THE TIME TO KICK GENS (and kicking gens is still not worth the time used, unless you have a specific build made for this purpose).
i only use it when i also run call of brine tbh. Im a thrilling tremors gamer, every killer has it. i know its not meta, maybe i should change that up and i would do significantly better but i just LOVE how it gives info AND blocks gens the same time. so i have a little bit more time to kick gens. But i dont do it on all killers, on others i just run pain.res + dms paired with thrilling still.

Dead Hard: Used by 75% of survivors
BHVR: "We have to nerf this!"
BHVR: releases a perk that works almost identically, but gives the survivor an even better result if they absorb a hit with it than before
Dead Hard: Used by 65% of survivors
BHVR: *shocked Pikachu face*
Meanwhile, all the killer perks that got nerfed into oblivion are nowhere to be seen... HRM!
yeah i think we know where the preferences lay....

So old meta was better, you could chose hex perks, pain, dms, pentimento, pop, ect…
Now that hex are gone, pain info nerfed, dms nerfed, pentimento too situational, pop nerfed, you are stuck with eruption. Buff other regression perks and you will see less eruption.
what really is going to happen: .> eruption gets nerfed and killrates sink again, BHVR surprised pikachu face.
But i guess dead hard is fine now, clearly the majority of survivor mains here says, so it has to be the truth.

If the DLC wasnt cheaper on steam i almost could think ive wasted money on forged in fog.
But their perks are fine.. i mean.. ok i havent played arount with vittorios perks by now so thats on me.. But knight has nice aura reading i guess.
Maybe it was a waste...

I do not remember this problem in PTB. it was more enjoyable to play him in PTB then live. maybe they do not want you to play him. too oppressive for survivor -shrug-
yeah without all these inbuilt counterplays his abillity gives the survivors he would push Nurse down her throne in no time

I play console killer and don't give a damn about your deluded idea your entitled to win every game.
Both survivors and killers can play how they like. It's their choice and their game.
I hate playing swfs but I don't cry and throw tantrums. If I lose I lose. I don't care.
And get over yourself it only a bloody game not life and death.
A GAME.
common sense, we need WAY more of you :3
