DS already does disable at endgame, if it’s been used.
That's not disabled at end game; that's disabled when it's used. Different from what I said. :P
-
I am 100% in favor of shutting off DS during end game and giving it another buff as compensation.

I like using the Bead as Jeff to pretend I'm Jesus while healing or repairing.

Make a mechanically identical version of Demo for Killers who missed out. Highly doubt Netflix would be able to do anything about it as long as BHVR doesn't use any Stranger Things assets. That's the main thing I care about.

My argument does not concern hypotheticals. I find it ironic that my real-world numbers based argument of total CO2 emissions in a discussion regarding CO2 emissions is being framed as “silly” and “hollow,” yet the nonsensical hypothetical fantasy of “but if every gamer made their own NFTs it would be even worse” is somehow being framed as valid.
I’m sensing some straw clutching.
What is the math of CO2 emissions caused by one NFT transaction vs. one gaming session of Minecraft? How long would a Minecraft gaming session have to persist for one player in order to match that of the NFT?

Granted, but now the other suvivors are twice as loud
I wish maps were more interactive
Maps now have townsfolk NPCs that walk around and don't do anything except get in the way of everyone. Talking to one causes a 30-minute text box conversation.

No. That is unnecessary to the health of the game.

In the body block scenario I do agree.
And yes suicide by gen does mean it's not technically hostage. I actually didn't mean hostage in a bannable sense just in a forced to die without having access to the box at all.
But the coordinated hook style counter to a pig just hovering around the box would work. And it would render that style useless.
Fair point regarding defending the box, but I don't think that matters much sadly because there's still the issue of just standing in front of the box.
-

In that scenario yes that's absolutely holding the game hostage if they refuse to move enough for a survivor to search it. Not advocating this scenario but the perk "Clairvoyance" used to have the ability to 'push' the killer while using the map-esque effect. Idk if that was intentional or a bug but I never heard it was patched out ...
The other scenario could be counter-played by coordinating a team body block revolving hits between the three while the fourth is searching the box. And if indeed the killer doesn't change strategies then go heal and repeat.
Edit: like a coordinated hook rescue
It's not hostage holding because Survivors can still progress the game foward by doing gens, trapped Survivors be damned. The problem is that there is zero counterplay for certain Trapped Survivors if RNG swings the wrong way.

We'll agree to disagree on the Saw parallels, as morphing into nonsense.
But the basement bubba RNG thing was my point. It feels more personal and toxic as it's not RNG related.
So to clarify. Is the pig just camping the box so survivors choose not to use it and risk getting grabbed, or is the pig just physically body blocking the use of the box?
I agree that the Video Tape camp box shenanigans is nothing like Saw.
"But the basement bubba RNG thing was my point. It feels more personal and toxic as it's not RNG related."
Video Tape camp RNG is worse in my opinion because it IS fully RNG with the potential for literally zero counterplay.
"So to clarify. Is the pig just camping the box so survivors choose not to use it and risk getting grabbed, or is the pig just physically body blocking the use of the box?"
It could be either or, but in this case, we are assuming she is physically blocking the use of the box.

To point 1: It is EVEN MORE saw from that stance. End of original saw. Epic scene:
"Game Over" as he leaves Dr Gordan to be trapped in the bathroom indefinitely (even if he escaped in future sequels, the intention was to leave him trapped.
To point number 2: It'll be used as a meme build and be used seldomly I'm sure. If 1 out of every 20 matches is vs Pig and only 1 out of every 30 of those are played this way... I'll welcome the change to the standard slam gens n go matches if it's super infrequently. Especially knowing if I do die it was bad luck RNG.
If this style was popular you'd see WAY MORE insidious basement bubba's... It's a more effective, consistent way to force a no win or no save situation. Plus that feels toxic because it's not RNG camping you.
1) He leaves him there TO DIE. Not to leave his computer running indefinitely. And Jigsaw certainly isn't standing in front of the door waiting for him to do something the whole time.
2) Seldomly is still far too often.
3) Bubba's strat, lame as it is, does not have RNG tied hard to it, and you aren't screwed from literally the very beginning of the trial.

Yes but it's the fact that it's just as likely that 0 keys are in the camped box as all 4. Makes it a game in which the RNG decides "who is too ungrateful to be alive" much as jigsaw dictated for people but AMANDA skewed their odds as well... To me that sounds EXACTLY like Saw. Remember we're the pig... Not Jigsaw
That doesn't make it Saw at all. If it is possible for the trial to stall out because no one wants to break the game of chicken, that is neither John Kramer nor Amanda Young. That's just an episode of a sitcom.
@voorheesgt said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789846#Comment_2789846
Also. Just as you say if all 4 keys are in 1 box (1/16 chance) then the survivors all die to start another match. Just like if 0 keys are in that box (1/16 chance as well) it's an easy win and escape. It isn't inherently tilted in any direction... It's literally an equal chance. If you consider the fact that 15/16 times at least one key will not be in there and 8/16 times at least 2 keys won't... It's really stacked to end up with 2 escapes per game average...
That doesn't make it a healthy design choice that shouldn't be changed. There is nothing good about that style of gameplay at all.

Sure, but I have to know it exists to watch it XD.
I think what I've gathered from people here is that The Ring has a kinda dated premise and the hype sort of died out fast. It was too new to be a classic but sort of aged out of the 'meta' too quickly for me to know about it. Things like NoES, F13, Halloween ect were all classics when I was a kid and I think my first exposure to ANY of them was that damn Michael Myers mask in COD: Ghosts.
I don't even think that's really the case. The Ring franchise isn't as overall well known as F13 or Nightmare on Elm Street, but it is certainly well known. It probably didn't have the same international hold because the Western remakes fizzled out very quickly after the first one. Meanwhile, Japan has eight different movies in the Ring franchise, including a crossover with Ju-On/The Grudge.
-
I was on board until I actually got to your idea to fix the problem. What you are suggesting sounds much worse.

The most accurate would be people just sliding across the ground perfectly locked into an up-right standing pose, but then that has the issue of looking weird/off-putting. Making it look better makes it not line up as much since the human body doesn't run like that (normally). Even if BHVR did that, people would likely complain about animations looking unrealistic/stiff instead.
Is there a way to make them still look injured while also standing and/or running similarly to how they run by default?
-
@SuzuKR said:
When will people stop making me have to post this explanation from Peanits over these stupid complaints?
One, flat hatchet hitboxes DO NOT WORK.
Two, survivor hitboxes are not individualized to every single part of each survivor's body because that takes an enormous amount of computing power, and BHVR does not have the power that companies like EA do.
Three, survivor hitboxes are not individualized to every single part of each survivor's body because that would give a competitive advantage to smaller characters which is stupid.
Four, latency is literally unavoidable.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/N8NAGEGQXJX3/screenshot-20200930-232331.jpg
Sounds to me like a somewhat solution is to modify the animations/positioning of an injured Survivor to better match the hitbox.

Yes because then lots of salty people will block a teammate for making one mistake and then they're being punished for simply not being up to snuff.

Yeah, I think letting Survivors do the Skill Check after letting go seems more than reasonable. It's pretty unfair to have RNG randomly line up with you letting go and punish you for it.

It’s not hostage holding. You keep calling defending gens hostage holding but it’s not. The survivors can try and do the gens. They might not succeed and they might get killed but they can try.
Hostage holding is doing something where the survivors literally can’t progress the game, even if they try something risky. Not only can’t they do the gens but they can’t even die trying to do the gens. Bodyblocking the last survivor in a corner is hostage holding, they can’t even die trying to do the gens. Doctor intentionally infinitely shocking people off gens but never damaging them is hostage holding, that’s the example Peanits was talking about. A killer just guarding the gens and downing survivors who come too close is NOT hostage holding, the survivors have the ability to try and do the gens even though it’s risky.
But I’ll let everybody else who’s telling you you’re wrong at this point take over.
I already have a BHVR quote saying I'm right, so it doesn't matter how many people say otherwise. :P Peanits specifically mentioned that it's holding hostage even if the Doctor downs them for standing still.
-
That doesn't bother me, tbh. If they need to, they can buff those Killers accordingly.

I think It took like 30 minutes or even an hour to be considered a hostage anyway, at that point it's clear they are doing that with intention of griefing.
Well, yeah. That much is definitely true. If this situation only lasts for two-three minutes, you don't really have much to go on. The game has to be stagnan for a VERY long time for it to be hostage holding.
-
@fulltonon said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801692#Comment_2801692
If it's actually an "impossible" situation, problem is in generator spawn and maps.
You're not wrong per se, but that doesn't excuse hostage holding. It'd be like saying that it's okay to allow hostage holding if you are abusing an infinite (a REAL infinte) endlessly to evade the Killer while intentionally never doing gens.
-
@fulltonon said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801682#Comment_2801682
You can't stand at gens indefinitely though, there is three of them.
You kinda can if the 3-gen is right. That's why 3-gens can be backbreaking for Survivors.

"patrolling the generator is good way to find survivors"
from dbd tips.
Patrolling gens =/= stand at gens indefinitely and don't try to down Survivors
-
@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801653#Comment_2801653
If you scare survivors off a gen, but don't score a hit and they hover in the area, where exactly do you think they're going to go the moment you leave? Do you really need a gen notification to figure that out?
And if you are continuously finding them there, that's fine. Even if you don't every time, that's fine. The problem arises when you keep going back, keep not finding someone there, and rather than deciding "okay, they're not there; I'm gonna start looking for them and swing back later," you decide "okay, they're not there; better wait until they come back" over and over and over.
-
@Ryuhi said:
alright, they went back to the doctor shock example as their baseline. I'm done with this topic.
Anyone who wants to actually consider the arguments has more than enough info to make their decision.
The person in question said that Survivors can just stand still to let the Killer down them. I am showing from the example I posted that BHVR EXPLICTLY does not use that as a valid excuse to justify hostage holding.
-
@fulltonon said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801626#Comment_2801626
But in most 3 genning situation killers will down a survivor as long as they are close, not the case.
If the Killer is actively going to down Survivors as they approach, then the Killer is doing nothing wrong. The issue is when they are NOT doing that deliberately.
-
@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801620#Comment_2801620
You don't need to physically see the other person on the other gen to know when its being worked on, and sometimes you don't even have line of sight between multiple gens. I honestly can't tell if you're using every logical fallacy you can think of, or you've just never actually been in this situation successfully.
But to play along, thats like saying the survivors using spine chill to run away before the killer can reach them are the same as the ones tapping and hiding in lockers.
Again, please, for the love of all things sacred, try to consider anything short of extreme examples.
That's...not true? Not unless the gen explodes or you have a way to detect that it's being worked on.
Lemme make it simple: If you are going back once or twice because you are worried it's being worked on, that's fine. If the game is going on forever because ALL YOU'RE DOING is hitting, letting them go, and running back to stand guard, you are holding the game hostage.
-
@fulltonon said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801615#Comment_2801615
It can't be broadly apply to being able to stop survivors from doing gens overall.
"taking the game hostage" is the situation where only option is leaving the game, doesn't matter what exact situation is... if this is the case, that is hostage situation, if this is not the case, that is not hostage situation.
In 3 genning situation, killers can overcommit survivors and lose the game, or survivors can gave up and try to do gens in face of killers and die, so this will not be considered hostage situation.
"survivors can gave up and try to do gens in face of killers and die, so this will not be considered hostage situation."
The quote I gave literally said that the Doctor is holding hostage if he is only downing a Survivor if they stand still.
-
@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801610#Comment_2801610
no, its the equivalent of "shock indefinitely so that survivors can't touch gens."
(Survivors tapping and slowly progressing gens, running away and healing if hit) is the equivalent of (injuring survivors and going back to gens immediately.)
Those two are definitely not equivalents unless the Killer is going back because they see someone else approaching gens.
-
@fulltonon said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801588#Comment_2801588
That quote is specifically about doctor, which disable survivor's ability to do gens.
Yes, but it can broadly apply to being able to stop Survivors from doing gens overall. Another example: Standing in an optimal spot where you can shoot anyone who approaches as the Deathslinger (something that I can absolutely say was possible through experience).
-
@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801602#Comment_2801602
You're ignoring nuanced arguments in favor of hyperbolic assumptions, just like that doctor shock post.
I'm really not. "Tap and hide indefinitely" is the Survivor equivalent of "injure Survivor and go back to gen indefinitely."
-
@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2801588#Comment_2801588
You do realize that what you said is actually true is exactly how survivors are supposed to (and do) counterplay 3 gen scenarios, right? they tap the gens and work on them only until the killer starts going their way, then run away before the killer can get a hit (therefore forcing them to either commit and give up the other gens, or deny the chase and go back to kicking/patroling.) Gen kicks take much longer than gen taps, regression is slower than base progress, and the 1 is trying to match distance with the up-to-4 who are only marginally slower movement speed wise. Gen tapping and getting small increments done continuously is how survivors win 3 gen setups, even with as little as just 2 survivors.
Of course you went to the extreme with your "example," but the strategy is still the same.
I didn't say "tap and work on them until the Killer finds them." I said "tap and go back into hiding."
