In your hypothetical, there is a gigantic, huge unfair advantage to one side, to an extremely game-changing degree. In our event, two specific killers get screwed and the rest are absolutely fine.
It's still a problem that should be fixed, but the thing that's actually getting annoying is the amount of people pretending that survivors get some stark and measurable advantage out of hopping into a snowman when that's clearly not the case.
Fair enough, but you did admit there is a problem that needs to be fixed, that is all I wanted to hear.

What you were thinking when writing this post, not the devs. I swear only the killer mains making such posts.
Dbd is my life, snowmen taking away my fun.
I play both Survivor and Killer equally, I just call out bs when I see it. These Snowmen are not balanced nor did the devs think of Killers when designing them. How do you expect Killers to react when Survivors are the only ones having fun.

I assume you do see the giant, stark difference between this event and the hypothetical you just posed, right?
Nah, not really. Both are unfair situations, one is just made up and another one is real.

I get that a one-sided event, catering for the already favourable role is annoying, but myself as a killer main, still finds it hilarious, watching a survivor crying, bleeding and moaning in pain, slowly walking away as a snowman. It's easy meme potential, and people need to stop taking it so seriously.
It sucks, of course, but its a short-time event.
This "Don't take it seriously" argument is getting really old.
Imagine if Battlefield or Call of duty made a Christmas event where a single class/loadout could one-shot people just because the bullets are made of tiny Snowmen... You know, because it's all hilarious and fun and should not be taken seriously.

That doesn't seem like reasonable advice when it only applies to one side to me. :P
My thoughts exactly. All these people do is make a "convincing" argument by merely stating "deal with it, it's not supposed to be taken seriously" - as if that removes the fact that the Snowmen were designed with no balance whatsoever but still, survivor sided.
-
- The game is survivor sided with zero balance nor care towards Killers (The Snowmen event is the latest proof of that)
- The Perk library is a wasteland of useless perks with only a small handful to actually use (that goes for both Survivors and Killers)
- The entire game is just Survivors gen rushing the game and abusing tactics that force killers to camp and tunnel.
- Maps are so unbalanced that there are infamous maps no Killer wants to play in nor is good at regardless of their unique powers.
- Cheaters roam free and make fun of the devs and their incompetence to deal with them
- Cosmetics is the number one priority to BHVR, and even for that, they fail to hire some decent artists able to design actual cosmetics and not some generic clothing you can find in Walmart while pricing them more than what they are worth.
I swear, at this point, I am begging for a new Dead by Daylight competitor to step in and show how it is done, maybe VHS when it comes out.

What were they thinking...maybe...Merry Christmas players?
That is a really bad way to say Merry Christmas, really... really bad. You must be a survivor main, I assume.

I want to spend a couple of words on this topic.
The battle between hackers and anti-cheats is never ending, as much as people think we do not ban people, bans happen quite often, the anti-cheat gets updated constantly, but it's simple to understand that you can't block hacks that haven't been found yet.
To put it simple: hackers create hack, EAC updates to block it, so hackers create new hack, then EAC updates to block this one too, and so on and so forth.
It's a continuous fight.
While your words speak much truth, it does not explain nor justify BHVR's utter silence in providing a solution. Even to this date, there is still no improved report system that would work internally within the game but rather still expects people to submit tickets outside the game with video evidence (like everyone could bother to do such a thing).
The game is still completely open for Hackers to hold players hostage within a neverending game or force them to eat DC penalty, something that BHVR has not done a thing about to fix.
There is much that BHVR could do to improve the overall experience of the game regardless of cheaters for both long-term and short-term solutions but actively chooses not to.
-
The game's full of cheaters, get used to it because BHVR sure ain't going to fix it.
-
I don't see how Freddy has weakened because of MMR. While I don't see him being played as often as before, this might simply be due to so many new killers having been released since then, thus providing variety in choice. When I play him, I don't feel particularly weak. He can still teleport to gens at will, providing pressure unlike any other Killer in the game. His loop game is pretty strong when survivors are in the dream state and mind-gaming in this state makes him also very unpreditacble.
-
That map is a prime example of how survivor-sided the game is. I play both equally, but anyone can see that the map provides no advantage to any killers perhaps other than Nurse for being able to teleport between floors at will, but even then the map is enormous to traverse for her and it is easy to accidentally blink to the wrong floor when not intended, especially around the basement area. Yep, it's survivor's paradise, providing plenty of places to hide, run to safety, strong pallet loops, and unfair boon placements for killers to deal with.
But of course, BHVR does not pay attention to such things. Balance? What is that?
-
BHVR is a business but not a very clever one at that when it comes to selling cosmetics. Thinking they will gain a boost in sales for having such sale for the Artist skins, instead, they will lose a lot of potential customers for putting it behind such wall, thus dropping interest of those who would have bought it and even making sure that in the future people are more reluctant to purchase anything in despise of the company.
I have lost my interest in buying cosmetics with real money simply because of how badly BHVR manages them. The designs are often uninspired and generic-looking, something you can buy in real life clothing store. Yet the price of these cosmetics is ridiculously high. Sales are often minimal, offering limited-time deals that cannot even be called such for how minuscule they are.
Rarely do I find myself buying a skin using real money even though I have disposable income and desire to spend it on DBD, and the reason behind this is due to the bad experience I have had over the years in general. BHVR makes it really hard for me to want to support them. And every year, every month I lose more and more interest in playing the game due to unbalanced decisions that only make the game worse with each major patch, Boon totems being the latest one that has made the game unenjoyable on the side of when playing as Killer.
But my biggest reason not wanting to support BHVR by purchasing cosmetics with real money has to do with the consisting cheater problem that has no real report system or fix even to this date.
-
BHVR sure is a company that makes stranges decisions one after another while ignoring the important stuff.
-
- Provide a real report system as a solution to the cheater problem.
- Balance maps with fixed pallet and window placements.
- Improve perks that never get used due to how useless they are. And I mean really improve them, not just a few here and there, I mean all of them, I am tired of using the same 10-15 perk pool from which I mostly use just 6-8 perks as meta.
- Bring new maps for a change and focus on the horror element more.
That's what they should do instead of pumping out broken killers.

Such a shame, as survivor, we should be facing The Artist 90 procent of our matches so close after release . But i feel like she's really unpopular. Such a shame!
Why are you not playing the artist?
I bought her, played for a while to understand her build and playstyle, did not like it that much. She is fine I guess, but something about summoning her crows feels slow and unsatisfyingly boring to do. I say, it has been a long while since BHVR managed to create a killer that was fun to play for me. Plus I hate it that they just refuse to make killers that look scary for a game that is about horror and iconic horror characters.

I see we have a lot of differing opinions here, glad to see it is not just one and the same answer from everyone xD

I like this idea.

I have been playing all week for around 3-4hrs straight each day. I haven't seen any hackers in my games....now most are I assume in the High MMR bracket....that's why I play to have fun to stay out of that nightmare zone....but I had a few DC issue where I hit a survivor or hook them and Ibget disconnected from the host...I know it isn't my internet and my ping is always ranging between 35-58. But no blatant cheating.
I actually haven't realized to think that MMR has an effect on the frequency of cheaters, but you are right, it is more likely that cheaters live in high MMR, hence me seeing them far more often than many other players who claim to not see them.
-
@Brightened said:
I'm not exactly sure what the cheating you're talking about is if I'm being honest? I've played DBD for 2+ years and may have had like 5(?) games where I thought someone might be hacking, but had no proof. I've seen videos of the blatant hackers, but I don't think it's that common...
Depends on what platform you play and do you have crossplay on. Most likely you are either on consoles or do not really play that much of Dead by Daylight each day to see a pattern, just my thoughts. Feel free to correct me.
-
Even this evening, just trying to enjoy my game and all I get is these subtle cheaters playing on increased movement speed like I don't notice they running at speeds barely noticeable but well enough for me to never catch them, always surprisingly far away after a blind corner, come on.
-
@Junylar said:
So the cheaters are "ruining the image of the game, making it unappealing to new players", and yet the playerbase continuously grows.
Of course, the game will grow, but the potential for greater growth is in fixing the cheater problem, and the lifespan of this game can turn in a blink of an eye if the cheater problem is left ignored for too long. How long is too long, only time will tell, but it is no shock that people are leaving the game because of cheaters. Don't you wish improvement on this?

His chains are very unrewarding but his chain hunt is great but relies on rng and also add-ons to make them happen.
Trickster was just underpowered before. Now he can be good but inconsistent depending on the map. I like trickster, he's one of my favourite killers, but i hate it when certain maps just make his power useless.
Nowadays Trickster is a lot more viable, unlike when he was released, yes. I actually see him every now and then, but it is funny to see that almost no one ever plays Pinhead.
-
I play mostly killer but even I agree on this part, even on the expense that such change would hurt me more than help. It just does not make any sense to have the skill check for a perk that you sacrifice a perk slot for.
You brought it for a single time use to escape the tunneling killer's grasp, so why even have a fail option. No other perk in the game has such thing for crying out loud.
-
You do realize that some survivors do not carry healing perks or medkit, nor can they find their teammates efficiently for them to heal before running out of time. This would be a horrible idea in so many levels.
I really don't think there is anything wrong with the injured state.
-
Simply do not give them more of your money. I quit buying the paid skins a long time ago and only buy Licensed DLC killers/survivors since these are the only thing of value to me at this point. I used to buy skins with real money but since I see that BHVR does not deserve that money for making such poor effort tackling the cheater issue in the game, as well as many other areas of the game that remain to be issues to this date, I simply do not pour more money in for them.

They do take the game hostage though. Had a hacker activate infinite bloodwarden on the doors, and stop the egc timer. Then spent 40 minutes bouncing on top of the end gate. I didn't think it would take 40 minutes so I went afk to watch netflix, then lost track of time to realize they still were taking the game hostage.
I was not talking about cheaters tho.

I would think camping and tunneling at 5 gens is more pathetic than wanting to leave the damn game but each to their own
I am not here to compare which one is more pathetic, I simply stated that DCing for tunneling/camping is not really a solid reason to DC when you actually have a way out of the game and what the Killer does might be annoying/unfair but still within rules of the game and viable strategy to win matches. Besides, you would have to DC a lot because tunnel/camping is pretty regular in this game.
-
DC against camping/tunneling is just pathetic. Just die on the hook, it doesn't sound like he is keeping you hostage.

Actually yes hex perks can get overridden by boons
How so? I certainly have not seen the option available to me nor have I seen anyone booning totems when running full hex build.

I've had some issues. I like playing Wraith a lot and yikes, but getting the first hit doesn't count for much anymore. Have to commit way more than I used to. I was also struggling as Nemesis because he already needs to hit survivors three times, and his early game gave everyone else oodles to time to set up boons and reset from that first gen interrupt or two. At least the zombies very occasionally gave me clues as to where the boon zone was. I haven't had a chance to play Hag against boons yet, but she could be nice because she also counters Shadow Step pretty well. I've had some very irritating instances of that boon that stopped me dead, and of course getting rid of it doesn't do anything when it comes back up as soon as you leave the area.
Luckily I don't play at the MMR where survivors play nasty with the green medkit/COH double whammy. Also doesn't hurt to be a Plague main. Had a Plag match yesterday that was two Mikaelas and four medkits. Needless to say, there were DCs. I actually felt guilty, because oof.
Yeah, Plague also appears to do well against booners since her whole deal is preventing heal. I totally forgot to mention her but that's because I haven't been playing her as of late. Might have to main her until this whole Boon thing gets fixed.

Looks like the Entity.

As a killer you simply don't have time for all that, even when you destroy it they will bring it back unlike hexes, if killers want to be somewhat competitive they have to tunnel and camp against good survivors.
This is exactly what I have found myself having to do when facing good survivors with the perk. It gives me no chance of playing any other style than tunneling.

Insert Angry Hedgehog biting on foot *Angry*

I think that it's fine either way, though if I could decide, I would make it so it cannot be 99%

Licensed characters are a big part of why I enjoy DBD but I began playing in 2016 when there were no licensed characters I had no idea what DBD would build into. Today I play in great anticipation and excitement of what the next licensed killer will be, but in general I love the gameplay loop. I love to play as a powerful killer showing who's the boss, and I also love escaping from a powerful killer, showing who's the more clever one. There is something magical about the game that you cannot find anywhere else.
Oh, and also because I freaking love horror! I only wish DBD would step up their graphics, lighting, sound effects, music, and make the game really scary. I want BHVR to really make me jump from my chair when the killer ambushes from a corner. Make the environment look gruesome and horrifying. But that does not seem to be something BHVR is interested in, what a shame.
-
The good old MK9. Having the Tag Team online matches with my friend all week long drinking beer and cursing when losing to our nemesis online players. Those were the times. Fun fact: MK9 even had old-school Kratos as a guest character.
-
I have suggested this many times to no avail. Worse than hook camping is slugging the entire team while keeping the game hostage.
-
Admit it, having the survivor who sabotages your game is still more beneficial for the team than not having him. He still attracts killer's attention and wastes time, no matter if he runs away or not.
-
I often use Kindred simply because it gives information to my teammates whether to stay on gen or come save me and more importantly, how many of the survivors should come for me when I am on hook. It prevents a survivor from running from the other side of the map for me just to find out halfway that someone else unhooked me already. The same information applies to me as I can see the killer's aura on hook whether he is camping or in which direction he goes, and when I should go save someone or stay on gen.
-
Do you mean on consoles? Because that does not happen on PC, at least not for me.
-
I run into hackers every day almost. It's the stealth hackers who are the worst and ruin the game. It's so easy to increase your base speed just slightly enough to make you fast to outrun the killer or catch survivors depending on which you play. Fixing generators with extra speed when you are alone on a generator also is something no one can catch unless there to witness it and even then you have to question if it is just a toolbox.
-
Dead Hard is a very powerful escape perk that can extend chases or grant unexpected escapes from death. People tend to use it because it can be used in almost any situation for as long as you are injured, while other escape perks, like balanced for example, is only helpful in certain type of maps and areas of it.
-
I don't think it's about the frequency but rather that the ones we get for anyone else but Feng and Meg, and Claudette, are often so generic and uninspired that it is disgusting just how unimaginative the outfit design team can be for most of the time.
-
Yes. Anything that brings more life into the game through animations, voice acting, and improved graphics and lighting is always welcome.
-
What DBD wants you to do:
- Report in post-game
- Have video evidence
- Open a separate website and find the report form
- Fill out the form which takes more than a few minutes
- Pray to God that once you submit the form, it actually goes through, because if it brings you an error, you have to refill the form again from scratch. The error happens more often than you might think.
How literally any other game does it:
- Report in post-game
- All done, congratulations, you just reported a cheater, we will let you know if your report had an impact.
-
BHVR has made it time and time again very clear by their actions that they only wish to milk Console players for money but do not waste resources to improve the experience there. I enjoy the game on PC but naturally feel sorry for the console players. I too would like to play the game on consoles sometimes as I happen to own it on all three; PS, Xbox, and Switch - But not for as long as it is in the state it is.
