Far from mad at you. Is that the only thing people can come up with? Construct a critical argument rather than just spewing out that “because it’s in the game, it’s in the game”. I believe you only commented on the thread to advertise your YouTube. I’m not opposing that perspective on tunneling. I do, however, oppose your view that survivors deserve to be penalized if they didn’t help with the objective despite being targeted til they die.
Here's the problem with you being so defensive.
The argument that you're ignoring is literally the most important one.
Players can't do anything about the situation, only the devs can.
Your ire is pointed at killers who tunnel when it should be pointed at the devs who make the situation possible.
They are penalized because of the system the devs implemented, not because the killer chose to play that way.
I'm being facetious when I say the survivors deserve to be penalized, but I suppose you missed that.
Again, get mad at the devs because they're the only ones who can change it.
Asking killers not to tunnel when they want to tunnel is like asking you to let it go.
It's not going to happen.
lol prove me wrong.
-
It depends on which role you're playing
Gen-rush is a killer concern.
Tunneling is a survivor concern.

The point just went over your head, didn’t it? You have a terrible mindset if you think a survivor deserves to penalized for not having an opportunity to play.
The point is also over your head apparently.
Don't get mad at me and my opinion. Get mad at the devs who have implemented this system that punishes survivors for being tunneled lol

the post isn’t asking anyone to not do anything. It’s asking for some sort of penalty deduction or induction. Why’s it fair to reward a killer who tunneled one survivor at the beginning and penalize that survivor? Do you seriously deserve to lose a pip because 2 minutes in you spent running from a killer tunneling you?
According to the devs rules, if you didn't unhook survivors, fix gens, or heal survivors... yes, you deserve to lose a pip regardless of the reason. You'll get a lot of boldness though :)
Regardless of the length of this thread, you're asking the devs to change something... something they might change by the end of 2020, but probably won't.
For now, suck it up buttercup. We're all stuck with the systems they have in place. Many of which many others before you have brought up over and over again which the devs have continued to ignore.

still not my point. Yeah, the game is based around frustrating each side. However, don’t penalize a survivor for a toxic tactic.
Tunneling is necessary per your videos example.
It’s unfair to penalize a survivors rank because they didn’t have an opportunity to play.
So blame the devs who make it possible to penalize a tunneled survivor. Don't ask killers to not use a tactic available.
Killers can't ask survivors to not loop.

Your video does not support an opposition to my discussion. I favor what you did. My opposition is survivors being penalized for being tunneled from the start to death. As in, match starts, killer tunnels you, you never have an opportunity to do anything else, dead. Lose pip, possibly rank, and no BP.
If a killer chooses to tunnel from start to finish... oh well. Die on the hook and move on to the next match.
MCote himself said that DbD is designed to be frustrating which makes it good gameplay apparently.
Don't get mad at the killers, get mad at the people who make it possible.

Even without new chapters, bug fixes bring new bugs.
I'm not sure what the foundation of the game looks like, but without an overhaul this game will remain bug-ridden for the remainder of it's lifecycle.
Add in a new charm? Audio, desync issues pop up.
Fix desync, character glitching and clipping,
Fix clipping, infinite loading.
and so on.
Everything's tied together and every change that brings seemingly unrelated bugs gives credence to the meme of DbD's spaghetti code.
DbD will NEVER be free of big bugs. (not even thinking about little meaningless ones)
-
While I understand your point, I don't think the data you're looking at would be accurate when looking at a survivor's survival rate when based on a single perk and possibly not taking any other data points under consideration.
Player skill, killer, map, teammates, other perk choices are all things that will impact survival rate.
When looking at a single perk that doesn't stack with others, I think it's important to consider how well it's doing it's job.
If we say that DS is an anti-tunneling perk then we can easily see that it's overperforming by impacting higher skilled killers more than lower skilled ones.
The common example is a survivor with DS being rescued and within the time limit the killer is able to down and hook a different survivor and then find, down, and hook the first survivor and still get hit with DS.
The killer didn't tunnel, but was punished for being a good killer while the survivor didn't "earn" the free escape.
I believe the time limit should be shortened by 10 seconds or that it should be disabled when another survivor is hooked.
If DS isn't meant to be an anti-tunnel perk then it should have a downside associated with it. Being the obsession isn't inherently dangerous.

Dev`s dont balance at red ranks as it is so it wouldnt change anything balance wise, its why the old red ranks was harder as killer and easier as survivor. the game should be more chill and people nee to stop worrying about ranks tbh
We can assume that they use data from those ranks to justify certain adjustments in addition to data from lower ranks.
Ranks don't matter, but the data the devs use makes it matter more than it ought to.
-
This scenario is only going to get worse as the months go on.
Your rank is only going to reset to purple at the reset... along with everyone else's.
Soon, I really believe that the bulk of players will be ranked at higher ranks regardless of their actual skill level.
Then using this "Red Ranks" population, the devs will start to use this data to balance "high ranks" while ignoring the fact that they've contaminated the data for their intended purpose... or maybe it's deliberate.. who knows.
I believe ranks are meaningless, and this is only going to make that statement even more true.
-
This verdict depends on if an individual has the time to grind the extra shards that aren't available through the archives.
Add to that the possibility that an individual might not have the skill or resources to complete the challenges for one of the two roles.
As an example, all of my survivors are at level 1 because I really dislike the role. As an additional side effect I can't even attempt some of the challenges because I don't have the perks unlocked or items available on those characters.
I have level 48 or so unlocked so the rift as a whole is a waste. Half of the cosmetics available are a waste since I don't play survivor and the charms are barely worth being available in the rift at all.
Overall, the value is dependent on the individual.
I didn't buy this one, I probably won't buy the next since it will probably be practically identical to this one.
No way for a single role to complete the challenges, recolored charms, no choice in cosmetics for one role or another and a time limit that isn't designed for casual play even though the devs tout that the balance is meant for casual players.
I would have liked the blight currency system be extended to other cosmetics within the battlepass.
You work through the battlepass and earn a currency, then use that currency to purchase a cosmetic specific to that battlepass. Free players could get what we want, and premium payers would get access to all of it. But killer mains wouldn't be stuck with survivor cosmetics and vice versa.
Then just take care of the problem of forcing players to play both roles and allow the players to choose which role they want to complete the challenges with.

They did say on the stream that with the Blood Hunt starting in January, it would mean that people wouldn't have to ignore their families to take advantage of it. So far from trying to kill our fun or anything like that, the impression I got was that they knew most people spend time with their families in that week between Christmas and New Year, and so they tried to make the Blood Hunt at a time when all that would have died down and people would be back to their usual schedule. That, and they're probably reluctant to run an event during a period where no one is going to be at the studio to monitor it.
Because flipping the switch on the winter atmosphere from Dec 1 - Jan 2 would have been too much.
The 3 month Halloween grind got in the way of Christmas and the same will continue since they plan to continue to try passing off a themed battlepass grind as a holiday event...
I'm looking forward to what the "event" is for the chinese new year...
-
You got a christmas tree charm.
Merry Christmas....
Other games got extra activities, free/earned costume sets, special event items with special effects, winter themed atmosphere and overall winter celebrations.
We got a grind that lasted from Halloween into the next year that rewards a halloween skin... if you bought the battlepass.
I wrote that before reading the post...
Yea, it would probably break the game, matchmaking, sounds, ranking, basement, powers, perks, loading screens etc if they changed the setting to the wintery one we've had before.
They're probably playing it safe...
-
Let's see if Last Year has good numbers after 2 months. They currently have an all-time peak of 1,084 players.
It's still too early to tell and I'm not dropping $20 on this game with how the devs have acted in the past.
-
I have my theories, but the criteria for their choices have never been revealed.
You have to be chosen though.

I hadn't heard about the salt mines. That sounds like an interesting alternative. It really depends on the kind of people who play the game, whether they would be better disciplined through punishment or through having their actual game experience worsened.
The more I think about it, though, the more I think that (a) from what I know of the DBD devs, punishing someone outside of the match itself would appeal much more to them as a solution, and (b) from a psychological perspective, I feel like the salt mine idea would tend to push players away from the game overall because they're not having fun playing it, as opposed to a system which incentivises them to DC less when they do get games because otherwise they don't get to play at all. For all we know, the salt mine system might have been part of what contributed to the game's death playerbase-wise.
I'm personally more in favour of the queue lock-out system, for the above psychological reasons and also because I've seen it work really well in games like League of Legends, which as we all know is hugely successful worldwide and has been for years now.
Fair enough :)
But I wonder if it's a fair comparison since the two games are so completely different.
LoL is balanced for competitive play and it would make a lot of sense to have a quitter's punishment system.
DbD is admittedly not balanced for competitive play (I wish it was) with no incentive to do well other than bloodpoints. If DbD was balanced for competitive play DC's as a whole might not be as widespread of a problem. The fact that survivors often DC to open the hatch for the last survivor is very telling as well.
This is a sidetrack: Everything in DbD is connected. The problems we're facing are due to core issues that aren't being addressed directly.
Why do players DC? Fix and balance those causes to lower the DC rate with a better gameplay experience and watch player retention increase naturally.

I don't think they're planning on doing anything about it. It's a complicated thing to punish. I'm sure they'd be glad to hear any suggestion you have as to how it could be done, though.
I'll share an older video in feedback, but did you ever hear about F13's Salt Mines?
I thought it was a good solution when I first heard about it.
Players who DC accumulate a point. In this case Salt.
As players accumulate salt, the matchmaking system will begin to pair these players together to play with other players who have accumulated salt.
Hopefully "giving them a taste of their own medicine" to curb the DC problem.
This is easier than timeouts in that no one is banned and players can continue to play without "feeling" the effects of their DC actions, while still leaving players who play without DC'ing to enjoy full matches.
This system suffers the same problem of intentional hook suicide, but that could be taken care of by applying salt points to players who die on their first hook without struggling for most of the 2nd stage.
Thoughts?

Testing this internally or on PTB just wouldn't do.
Criticism is good, but this thing is gonna happen at some point in some way.
What are they planning on doing about the people who are planning on sidestepping the DC penalty by throwing themselves at the killer and dying on hooks intentionally?

I've had Twitch Survivors DMCA takedown a video they were destroyed in.
I have a Twitch Hunter series where I'll use clips of the streamers PoV of a match against me and cut their reactions into my gameplay video.
They didn't like the criticism in the comments about their behavior and performance so they filed a claim and had it removed.

40ish I think. I took a week to visit my wife's family out of town for thanksgiving though.
I've only completed the killer challenges since the 2nd tome since I really hate playing the survivor role in addition to not having any of the required items and perks needed for some of those challenges and I don't waste bp on them if I can help it.

Is it possible for the Oni to never get his power due to not finding and injuring survivors?
Then in that case, isn't it possible for very good survivors to avoid getting hit?
While it's an extreme possibility, this is all I'm talking about.
-
@Grandkurama said:

Getting hit isn't normally intentional. And the oni is the one who decides to use his power unlike plague.
But if the survivors are good they can prevent the killer from using their power can't they?
Survivors choose not to cleanse.
Survivors avoid getting hit and go into stealth mode while the blood rage is active.
I just think they're similar in that regard.
-
Don't you think some comparisons can be drawn between Oni and Plague as well since it's sort of up to the survivors to allow the killer to use their power?
-
Hag.
Outsmarting survivors through the clever use of traps never gets old.
It's possible to have some pretty crazy plays if you can think ahead fast enough :)

I guess my question is: What's the end goal with this debate?
I'd like to see this conversation continue forward into other killers, more streamers, more opinions up until the breaking point.
At which the devs will finally clarify what constitutes a win and adjust the ranking system to accurately measure a player's success at achieving that win.
THEN moving forward to balance the game according to this new ranking system creating a truly balanced game that rewards skill and isn't content with creating deliberately frustrating situations within their game.
The good frustration, not the bad frustration that Mcote has talked about in the interview with King.
Bring on more debates and dialog about how this game feels to play and these disagreements that are caused by the devs themselves.
-
In the end, I wonder how this situation would change if the devs had a specific win condition in mind and adjusted the emblem system to rank player skill according to that win condition.

*rolls eyes* Do you ever have anything positive to say? It’s always how you’ve been “wronged.” I’m a killer main, and I don’t like a lot of things that have happened. But jeez I refuse to act like a victim all the time. I paid money for the base game as well as each chapter and each I believe was and is worth it. If you think that laying cash down on the base game and taking some hard stance on the way they change it going forward allots you some sort of preferential treatment, you’re wrong. I’ve been supporting it. And honestly since I’ve been supporting it I should have more say.
I'm positive the game would be better if the balance focus shifted away from mid skill players to higher skilled players. Not the tippy top 1% of high skilled players but maybe closer to the skill level of the top 25%.
Clearly define what a win is.
Then fix the ranking system to accurately measure skill based on this win condition.
These changes would create a stable foundation where balance changes would have a less arbitrary goal than "fun". The game as a whole would be easier to balance with every other problem the game has falling in line like sand shifting into place within a jar full of rocks.
I must love the game more than you do since you're willing to simply accept it as it is without criticizing the faults in hopes that the game becomes better than it is.
In away, it's because of the "whiners" like myself that the game has come as far as it has.
So maybe complacency is less valued than you'd like it to be.
-
Freddy creation, freddy rework, perk overhaul, legion rework, numerous bugs in every update...
Probably more stuff but I don't want to bother searching for all of it, but all of those changes and reworks possibly cost the company more resources than it would if they did things right the first time...
Measure twice. Cut once.
-
In the end, the forums have sides pitted against each other because of how the devs choose to balance the game.
They want everyone to have "fun" and pander to how the game "feels" to play instead of defining what a "win" is and balancing around that focus.
I almost feel like the game is designed around a participation award system rather than an actual competitive game.
I mean, no matter what you say about this game there are two opposing sides with opposing goals attempting to prevent the other side from accomplishing their goal. It's competitive by nature regardless of how the devs or anyone tries to spin it.
I honestly believe the forums would be more tolerable if the game itself was balanced behind a clear win condition and a ranking system that ranked skill rather than a laundry lists of tasks that includes "let the other side have fun"
-
I don't like how the players are the main QA team for the game.
We "test" the ptb with the known issues and bugs, and gain a false sense of how a killer plays which leads to a great deal of misinformation and disappointment.
I would rather not be able to test the killer and watch as bhvr hires a team to balance new content and locate the big bugs before releasing it to the players.
I don't know how development goes internally, but I do know that allowing players to play content before it's ready rarely ends in a positive way.
They hype train crashes into reality with a spectacular explosion of nerfs and the debatable view of balance by the devs.
They've made millions from DbD... these bugs and decisions should have more money thrown at them in order to create a game experience that is actually worth a purchase.
The Oni himself has been nerfed into mediocrity and his perks are for new players and a very niche use. Neither of which make for a good value, which is why I've stopped purchasing cosmetics and new content with cash or cells until there is at least the appearance of improvement in the quality of content that is being sold.
I will probably end up spending money on other projects that I'm excited for since bhvr seems averse to hiring more people to work on dead by daylight and would rather sink that money into other projects like Deathgarden...

Yes, I completely agree. Everyone who enjoyed playing Oni because of the flick. The devs knew this and decided it was in their best financial interest to not publicly declare it as a bug, but to wait until they had made a certain amount of money to then nerf it.
