DBD already has a lot of outlandish things.
- Dredge has a skin where he is literally just a giant toy (even has a Deep Rift variant).
- We have characters from non-horror IPs.
- Where have futuristic pop star outfits and a literal k-pop Killer.
- We have a lot of lore surrounding unnatural events and phenoms.
I think past a certain point, the "this doesnt fit" eventually starts to fit once it becomes the norm.
Just because we have some outlandish things already doesn't mean we need to push the envelope even further for even more outlandish and ridiculous things.
Dredge has a skin where he is literally just a giant toy (even has a Deep Rift variant).
Still in line with Dredge's character of being based on the boogeyman, as that covers everyone's fears of different things.
We have characters from non-horror IPs.
Which is it's own entire problem too and one i'm very much against as well.
Where have futuristic pop star outfits and a literal k-pop Killer.
Trickster still works as a horror character, the same way Norman Bates and Patrick Bateman does, the music genre chosen for him doesn't change that as any other music genre would have made no difference for his general character and horror.
Also not only are futuristic cosmetics at least grounded enough to be closer to normal clothing, but they also had elements of fabric tear, blood stains, dirt and mud to them to fit with the game's theme and aesthetic.
The new cosmetics from the rift are just DBD mobile levels of clean and has a bunch of particle effects attached to them like they're TF2 Unusual cosmetics.
We have a lot of lore surrounding unnatural events and phenoms.
Yes, but this is irrelevant to the lore and with the exception of those that are featured in tome cinematics, cosmetics in general aren't canon and neither are their descriptions canon events, that's why outside of the outfits that appears in the tome cinematics, most of those that do are default outfits only.
Most of the previous cosmetics wasn't pushing the envelope this hard and in fact looked like something that would naturally fit with other cosmetics when combined with them.
I think past a certain point, the "this doesnt fit" eventually starts to fit once it becomes the norm.
Except this is just going beyond the point of ''This doesn't fit'', this is straight up just going into DBD mobile/Fortnite territory, unlike most of the previous cosmetics we've had, these new cosmetics goes against the game's established theme and aesthetics completely with the inclusion of things like floating glowing fox tail and glowing hair for Survivors.

The magical kitsune yui skin is awful and fits with nothing else in the game.
I guess this is where DBD jumps the shark and starts putting ostentatious glowing stuff on everything because that's what sells.
Can't wait for DBD to slowly turn into tf2 where everyone wears cosmetics with all sorts of flashy and ridiculous particle effects attached to them. /s
Also worst part is, i want to use the Kitsune mask from her outfit, however the glowing hair ruins it completely.

I like new rift, but I agree with your point. I wish at least killers skins remains mostly scary and with horror atmosphere.
They could at least have given the new Killer skins blood and other elements to them, imo they're way too clean and factory new looking with how they currently are similar to how DBD Mobile's cosmetics look. (I'm looking specifically at you Clown)

What is that disaster of a "retro" outfit? Why does it look nothing like the og Lara outfit??

Because licensing is complicated and the only reason Ghostface got his own chase music is because he's half original.

When the game releases on September 3rd.

Ngl, with the exception of Lara's, i'm genuinely not a fan of these cosmetics, it feels like we're moving too far over into DBD Mobile cosmetic territory with these.

I mean, of those, Jurassic Park is at least horror adjacent, which I think does fit, but yeah. This was unfortunately inevitable (Hell, I can't even say I'm innocent of this, since my current most wanted is a far cry from horror, but it is unfortunate to see this shift when there are still several good horror IPs to go for).
The problem with Jurassic Park is that it is the least horror adjacent choice we can go for when there are better and more fitting choices to choose from.
Dino Crisis is a horror game as it is Capcom's Survival Horror spin on Jurassic Park, hell we can even go for an original Dinosaur chapter, both options would be infinitely better than Jurassic Park, however people are going to pick Jurassic Park because of popularity alone.
Also if you're not happy with the shift in IPs, best thing to do is to not only vote with your wallet, but to also be vocal about it to bhvr.

I'm only getting her because I'm a filthy completionist who can't stand not having everything unlocked. But that's about it.
While she fits as a character just fine, I'm not excited by the departure from horror we've been taking for the past year. First it was Nick Cage (I will forever stand by the fact that real people have NO PLACE in games like this, even if he came with two of my favorite perks), then it was D&D (even though it's my favorite chapter in a long while, if they weren't going to try bringing Ravenloft into this, they shouldn't have bothered), and now Tomb Raider (some spooky scenes doesn't suddenly make it a horror series).
I mean let's be real, with how people are asking for non-horror characters from non-horror IPs like Homelander from The Boys, Velociraptor from Jurassic Park, Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat, Glados from Portal, Jacket from Hotline Miami or Carnage from Spiderman, it was inevitable for DBD to deviate from horror IPs only because a good portion of people want to turn this game's theme into Fortnite 2.0.
Hell, with the inclusion of Lara Croft, you got people asking for Nathan Drake's inclusion now.

Wait, rly? So you don't have to link DbD with BHRV account to get the drops? I thought you have to to earn the drops (to make you link your game account with theirs).
No you don't have to link DBD, only Twitch and whatever platform you're on.

I mean yea, the point is there was some issue with this when you linked it and I am not trusting that, I dont want to risk all save file from 7+ years being deleted and then hope 3 weeks to reply from Customer support to refund the BP and then spend 20 hours in bloodweb xD
I mean you do you, i'm not linking DBD to the BHVR account either because it means that if you unlink it, you lose all progress you've made while it was linked.
However, it's asking to link your platform and twitch, which means it won't affect your game data should anything happen because linking your platform to the bhvr account can't affect your games the same way it would be able to if you were to link the account directly to the games instead.
-
@Chocolate_Cosmos said:
I am not linking BHVR account with Steam and the cloud just to get drops, sorry.
They rly want your data hard if they cant just make it like every other game with drops just linking your platform account (steam, blizzard, epic, etc.). There was in the past some issue that players had once they linked the account with BHVR they lost all saves, not risking even 0.01% chance.
That wasn't from linking the platform that caused that issue back then, that was from linking DBD.

I don't believe manual scamper for Chucky needs to return, but I do believe Slice and Dice Scamper needs to be made usable... it has sucked from day 1.
My personal suggestion is to at the very least not drag Chucky's camera behind him when he scampers. Let me keep my original aim from when I Slice and Diced, then go for improvements from there.
And i do believe manual Scamper needs to return, it was a core part of his identity and without it, he doesn't truly feel like Chucky anymore and making Slice & Dice better won't change that, in fact it will just push his current identity even further into yet another press/hold power button to dash forward, a playstyle we already have too many killers that does that as their main powers.
The free hit from spamming Scamper at pallets not only occurs only when Survivors camp pallets, but it could have easily been fix by just nerfing manual Scamper's speed by a second or two, would have been way better of a change instead of outright removing it.
I will keep advocating for manual Scamper's return until it happens, because the removal to me is as much of a deal breaker as the removal of Slice & Dice or Hidey-Ho mode would have been if they got removed.

I know that's what you were talking about, but i'm saying that's not even the actual Freddy to begin with because it's the 2010 version rather than the original, which is why i called him a cheap poser.

Same as many Killer design updates, they want to adress the issues Survivors have with the killer and then on second place give maybe something to the player who plays that Killer.
Chucky and now Knight is perfect recent example: Lets nerf what Survivors cry about and give him something small in return but ultimately making him weaker and worse for the player who plays him.
As for Knight new gameplay, outside of camping gens and annoy survivors from distance I dont see a point in his power at all. His chase is gone.
We need to keep pushing for manual Scamper to return, it's the only way Chucky will ever truly feel like Chucky again.
Hopefully bhvr will give Knight another spin after enough time has passed.

Except Core DBD is doing a decent enough job at making brutal moris as well while remaining true to the characters themselves
Yeah, in the last few killers. Before that, there are a few exceptions, but like I said most moris are pretty mild.
so i don't think there is any need to look to mobile moris in general
I disagree, even with the "out of character" problem (which, to be honest, is mostly the Trapper and Wraith ones) they are so much better than many of the moris in the main version, especially the old ones.
Not to mention that not all moris needs to be flashy and over the top brutal like mobile moris are if it doesn't fit the character.
They can be flashy, brutal and fit the character. DbD Mobile's Spirit or Nurse from that video, to name a few. Also, they are "finisher moves" in a game inspired by Slasher movies: They need to be flashy and brutal.
Gonna have to disagree on the bit about Freddy, i think his current mori works well enough as it is since it is a direct reference to Jesse's death in the 2010 remake
If Freddy's Mori works for you, that explains a lot. It is the most boring mori of the whole cast, followed closely by Skull Merchant, Trapper and Wraith. I don't know if BHVR were limited to the 2010 movie to make everything about the character, but if not, they had eight movies to choose from, and they chose the most boring-looking kill from any of them.
On the other hand, the Freddy in MK9 is also the 2010 remake, but his fatalities are based on scenes from older movies (to be fair, NetherRealms belongs to WB and they own the license, so I'm going to guess they had more freedom):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-frM2Lf8KE
And if someone is wondering, yes, that is young Johnny Depp in his first movie role.
It is also one of the first moris in the game where it changes based on if you're awake or asleep and that's something i don't wanna potentially lose with a new mori.
They could add more moris that had that characteristic as well, but the thing is: What exactly changes depending on the survivor being awake or not? The background? Real question, I don't remember that being a thing.
TL;DR: Not all moris need to be "over the top" flashy, but as finisher moves they are, they need to be flashy and brutal. Some of the last killers mori (Knight, Alien, Unknown, Singularity...) are good, but there are still a lot of killers that are in need of new, better moris.
Yeah, in the last few killers. Before that, there are a few exceptions, but like I said most moris are pretty mild.
It's not just the last few killers, it's quite a handful before that and if they can look like how they did, then bhvr would have no problem giving the oldest killer's moris a proper glowup on their own.
I disagree, even with the "out of character" problem (which, to be honest, is mostly the Trapper and Wraith ones) they are so much better than many of the moris in the main version, especially the old ones.
Absolutely agree to disagree, the majority of them don't fit the characters and they most certainly aren't better than many of the moris in the main version imo, because the moris on core at least fit their Killers and isn't created to look like they're in a fighting game.
They can be flashy, brutal and fit the character. DbD Mobile's Spirit or Nurse from that video, to name a few. Also, they are "finisher moves" in a game inspired by Slasher movies: They need to be flashy and brutal.
They may be finisher moves, but that don't mean that making them over the top gory and flashy fits every character as not all of them kill people in a flashy over the top gory way. Not everyone is Art the Clown from Terrifier and neither should other characters be treated as such with their moris if doesn't fit them.
Also agree to disagree once again, all of the mobile moris with the exception of the Bottle mori for Clown, the Legion mori and maybe the Twins mori are anything but fitting for their characters.
- The license extends to the remake only and the mori is in line with fitting that version of Freddy. (Yes, i am even going to say it fits better than the Mortal Kombat one.)
- Boring is subjective.
- I can say the same about how if Freddy's MK Finisher works for you, that too explains alot.
They could add more moris that had that characteristic as well, but the thing is: What exactly changes depending on the survivor being awake or not? The background? Real question, I don't remember that being a thing.
If a Survivor is awake, Freddy flashes in and out of the dream world when he performs his mori, while when Survivors are asleep, he can be fully seen during the mori, at least that's how it was last time i checked.
TL;DR:Not all moris need to be "over the top" flashy, but as finisher moves they are, they need to be flashy and brutal. Some of the last killers mori (Knight, Alien, Unknown, Singularity...) are good, but there are still a lot of killers that are in need of new, better moris.Again, agree to disagree, the majority of moris in core are fine enough as they are, they don't need to look like something from Mortal Kombat just because it's a finisher move. If it doesn't fit a character to be overly flashy or gory with their kills in their source material, it shouldn't be that in DBD either and i firmly believe that mobile moris are inferior because of that, as their moris are just trying too hard to look like eye-candy regardless of whether they actually fits their characters or not.

Yeah the license holders are very strict with it, I mean they didn't even let them use the actors likeness for Freddy and Quentin only got a more accurate face because the actor himself stepped in and got in contact with BHVR to get it updated. But if a show does happen a skin for Freddy might happen to help promote it, but I still don't see a big chance of that happening.
That's not the actor's likeness Quentin currently has, nothing came out of the thing between the actor and Cote all those years ago.
Warner Bros have done nothing with the franchise since the 2010 remake, which was a whole whooping 9 years that they've spent doing nothing with the franchise before the Wes Craven Estate regained the US Rights for the franchise so that the IP is now in the same copyright situation as Hellraiser and Friday the 13th. Hell, they've done even less than nothing with the original film series since Freddy vs Jason.
ANOES getting new content is about as likely as getting a Stephen King IP in the game or new content for Hellraiser at this point.

To some degree, I agree with you. On the other hand, they are flashy and brutal indeed, so I think they are a good example of what Moris should be, and if they import them directly to the main version they can always modify them a little.
But yeah, a more "lore-friendly" Mori for Trapper would be the one that he had in For Honor, for example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kExH-ZlB4YE
But talking about Mortal Kombat and "over the top" kills, either of the Fatalities of Freddy would be a much better Mori than what he has right now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT_n_LfZX8w
In short, I agree that some of DbD Mobile's Moris doesn't fit the characters, but I don't think that having them be a little "over the top" is bad either.
Except Core DBD is doing a decent enough job at making brutal moris as well while remaining true to the characters themselves, so i don't think there is any need to look to mobile moris in general. Leaving aside the fact that you are playing a game about slasher-like killers hunting down people to sacrifice them to an eldritch entity, the truth is that most of the moris are not even that violent or gory.
In fact, I'll argue that the moris in the game need to be more flashy and brutal, as it is the only moment gameplay wise where you can have that "slasher movie" feeling in the game. In other words, they need to be more like the ones in DbD Mobile:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKPV7qi97bU
About your other points, DbD is a game about fictional characters. A game that nobody is forcing you to play, nobody has lied to you about what the game is about, and is rated PEGI 18+ / ESRB Mature, meaning it is for adults. If somebody is unable to separate reality from fiction, they are the ones with the problem, which has nothing to do with the contents of the game.
More brutal moris are fine however mobile moris aren't it, they just come off as being too Mortal Kombat-esque over the top for the sake of just that rather than feeling like they actually fit the characters and their personalities.

on release, i suggest that chucky either becomes 105% killer or his scamper is nerfed to 2 seconds. Scampering in Hide-oh is boosted by 100% when using S&D. they didn't really need to remove manual scamper. just weaken enough that vault →m1 is uncommon/not effective.
another change that i do not agree with from PTB chucky to live was reduction of his m/s when missing. I think they should boost his m/s for missing to 95% but increase missed cooldown to 4 seconds. This allows chucky to use his dash for mobility without losing much m/s but doesn't allow him to miss and m1 a survivor in chases.
Pile of nails is add-on that makes you go undetectable when you cancel your ability for 5(now 3 seconds). this add-on should be changed to grant undetectable after missing a S&D for 10 seconds.
Their changes while in good spirit could been more refined. pile of nails add-on didn't need nerf. Cooldown m/s for missing makes it less attractive to use his ability for mobility. The scamper vaulting at loops could been address differently.
He is still fun to play. probably my favourite dash/chase killer in the game. Just that he could been a bit better off. The lower cooldown is a good change that makes him more fun to play. Chucky is able to go for more risks and make more plays with his ability. It is just that other balance changes he got were not thought out correctly in my opinion.
I would rather have Hidey-Ho stealth mindgames be the main strength of Chucky's power instead of Slice & Dice being the main focus so that his main identity isn't reduced to that of yet another hypemobility killer as we already have too many of them, however at this point i just want Manual scamper back, so i'll take anything at this point in time as long as it means that it returns again one way or another.
Also i feel like Slice & Dice should be more risk/reward heavy by giving him a slightly more noticable penalty for missing Slice & Dice but a better reward for hitting someone.

There's only 3-4 outfits from the show left to bring into the game, i'm not sure what the chances are in terms of original outfits for him.

This is pretty much a repeat of when they updated the in-game UI.
They release a new UI, people don't like it, they can't revert for backend reasons and then they improve it like a couple of patches later.
At least that means the customisation UI will probably be made half decent in 1.5-3 months.
Even if it ends up looking half decent, chances are that it's still going to look like something from a mobile game in some way or form.

While yes, chucky manually scampering was absolutely his identity, but an identity that was not enjoyable as he just gives free hits without making any cool play,
It's why I want Chucky's slice n dice scamper to be buffed and while yes there's killers like blight and wesker that do those types of mobility, but this is gameplay that Chucky can maneuver by dashing through pallets by not kicking them but use them to their advantage
That's an identity I want to see in him going forward in my honest opinion
Then put a slowdown period on his scamper speed where his scamper speed is slowed down to his release scamper speed for 5 second after Scamper has been used already while in chase to prevent him from spamming pallets like before or something, i don't care what, i just don't want his scamper removed from Hidey-Ho mode no matter what, that to me is a complete and utter deal breaker, same way removing Slice & Dice or Hidey-Ho mode completely would be a deal breaker too.
Save the maneuvering while dashing for another Killer, because it is not what Chucky is nor should mainly be about and he should most certainly not be reduced to become mainly that either.
Also i'm just generally sick and tired of hypemobile killers, it's a power type that's been done to death at this point and offers nothing new or interesting gameplay wise, we don't need every killer to become that just because it's a popular playstyle.

I feel like Chucky can still have an identity by adjusting his scamper during slice n dice
Right now you rarely scamper pallets during slice n dice since it's very limiting to move around while survivors can go behind pallets thus avoiding being hit
Slice & Dice, Hidey-Ho Mode & Scamper during both Hidey-Ho mode and Slice & Dice are all the main core parts of what makes Chucky truly feel like the character himself and without all of those elements of his power together, he doesn't fully feel like that and adjusting his Scamper during Slice & Dice won't change that.
In fact, i'd say adjusting Scamper during Slice & Dice will only make it worse as that to me just feels like doubling down on removing part of Chucky's core identity just so he can be turned into yet another hyper-mobility killer, something we already have more than enough of already with other killers and don't need anymore of.
-
Agree, being able to vault windows and pallets while in Hidey-Ho mode was a core part of his character's identity and the removal of it makes him feel incomplete.
Hopefully they'll change their minds and revert the change to scamper, even if it's release Scamper speed, the ability should be available during Hidey-Ho mode no matter what.
-
Nothing, i don't think P100 rewards should be a thing.
-
Except The Realm Beyond is only about visually updating older existing content.
QOL changes like map balance, new music and other things like that on the other hand is more of a general mid-chapter thing.
If we ever get new voice lines for existing killers, chances are that it'll be added via the latter.
-
With the exception of maybe the last one, these are just terrible suggestions in my book and i genuinely hope they never get brought back or implemented as official features.
Also fun is not a valid argument because fun is subjective.

Unless it is only making it non-directional while still keeping the lullaby intact, then i am whatever with the change. (Even though the lullaby doesn't sound directional to me in the first place.)
However, if it means removing the lullaby entirely, then that is where i take issue with it, because never do i want Sadako's lullaby to disappear as it is a thematic part of her character that's too important to be removed.

If they want killers to have a slight edge then they should aim for a 55% kill rate. 60% is just a number they pulled out of thin air without realizing the effect on the game. 60% is WILDLY imbalanced in a pvp game, like in other competitive games it would be considered game-breaking.
Except those other pvp games aren't asymmetrical and DBD isn't seen or balanced as a competitive game, because if it was, the devs would be balancing it for high level players, which they have admitted themselves that they do not because it's not what they're aiming for.
-
@sinkra said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3757382#Comment_3757382
A 50% kill rate would mathematically mean the killer's power is equal to 4 survivors. A 60% kill rate means that 1 killer is mathematically 50% stronger than the combined power of 4 survivors, which is vastly imbalanced.
You can be in favor of a 60% kill rate, just don't try to pretend it's in any way shape or form balanced.
Except Survivor escape rate applies to all Survivors individually, meaning for Survivor escape rate to be 50% would mean each Survivor would be on equal level as the Killer like they were back in the day.
60% kill rate isn't balanced, because like i said, it's the entire point of an asymmetrical game. It's meant to be unbalanced and uneven.
-
@sinkra said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3757367#Comment_3757367
"Asymetry" in DBD has always referred to the team count ratio of 1 killer to 4 survivors. It has never referred to the game balance in terms of kill-rate (i.e. 57-60% kill-rate overall). Asymetry simply means 1vs4. I repeat, "asymetrical" does NOT REFER TO THE KILL RATE.
Except it does, asymmetrical applies in literally all aspects of the game itself.
Both teams are meant to vary in strength because they differ in their role numbers, Survivors are meant to be less powerful than the killer because they outnumber the killer role by 4 and vice versa.
If you want a game where both sides are equally balanced, then what you're are looking for are symmetrical games.
-

This is the exact kind of post hoc reasoning from killer mains I was talking about in my post. If you completely ignore stats by rationalizing them to support your view then all that's left is forming an opinion based on feelings.
If the devs wanted a balanced game they would aim for a 50% kill rate, not 60%.
Except you're playing an asymmetrical game, which by nature and design is not supposed to be 50% equally balanced as the killer is meant to be the power role.
-
Remove directional lullaby.
No.

Current DBD and future DBD.
The more/further we move away from the times of old DBD, the better and more enjoyable it becomes.
Genuinely cannot wait for the last remnants of 2016-2020 DBD's content that's still in the game to be replaced & buried for good.

I never knew the devs made so many inaccurate lore statements omg.
Only defense I offer them about the Tome is the tome could be just different universes and or adding to the official canon. I think the multiverse was confirmed with Haddie since we didn't get the Haddie from the tomes we just got some podcast chickSome of those statements stems from older livestream before something else entirely became the official lore that was added instead, so those statements may have been true at the time or at least they were what the devs initially had planned before never talking about them again or changing it for something else entirely.
My point was less that they were inaccurate at this point in time currently, but moreso that any lore things not currently in the game which they talk about at any point in time shouldn't be taken at face value, because if it ain't in the game yet, it means that the devs haven't committed to making it official canon yet, exactly like with the Kate thing.

I wish devs would respond to these sometimes cause I swear to God I saw it somewhere and it was like a huge thing lore wise like thats why her music and stuff got dark because it was slowly trying to corrupt her and get her to a state it could take her omg
- Dave Richard said at one point early on that Nurse & Wraith were a canon couple, however then later down the line, some other dev stated that killers never meet each other as they all stay in their designated realms whenever the trials don't occur and that if killers did ever meet, they would kill each other.
- Dave also wrote back in 2019 in a now deleted tweet on his personal twitter account that Trapper was framed by his father as the culprit for the death of all those workers and that his base lore was based onthe POV of how the newspapers portrayed him as, while his tome was what he was really like.
- Then there is also Mathiue Cote who at one point said that cosmetics aren't canon and that only default ones are, but then later tome cinematics features cosmetics outside of the default ones.
- Cote also said at one point that cosmetics aren't alternative or multiverse versions of the playable characters and that there are only one version of them each, as the actual multiverse version of the characters only existed in the NPC tomes.
The points above are just examples of things i've seen devs talk about regarding the lore that as far as i'm aware, was never really stated, told or hinted at in the game's lore to this day, however because the sources for each of these dev lore explainations have gone lost now because they were either from now deleted livestreams or from personal deleted tweets, meaning there is no way to truly back them up as being actual canon lore bits or even reliable lore bits in any conversations regarding the official lore, just like with the Kate thing you wrote.
Also because none of these dev lore explainations are officially stated inside the lore of the game itself, should the devs suddenly change their minds at some point, they can easily do so without issue because it was never officially stated in the game to begin with.
That's why unless something is also directly written in the game as well, i don't consider any lore bits told by devs outside of the game as reliable lore info, simply because they don't have to commit to those lore explainations they give, because again, they were never officially stated in the game to begin with.

Tbf I do recall it being said the reason the entity couldn't take her there was because of the hope and positivity she possessed made her immune to the entities influence and that was why it started down a years long path to corrupt her to a point in which she would be able to be taken which I feel is so interesting esp with how her story played out vs the others

She gave hope and positivity to others yes, however nowhere is the ''immune to the entity's influence'' or ''years long path to corrupt her'' stated in the lore.

Zarina's an investigative reporter, Haddie's a paranormal investigator. Very different types of investigation. Think journalist vs survivor action hero.
Can't deny the backpack curse, though.

I mean, I speak facetiously but I do understand that, and I've never been a part of his hate squad. I find imperfect heroes fun anyway. My point is that he's clearly wracked with guilt over it and it's the inciting incident for him to leave, but his lore focuses heavily on uninteresting specialized-technical parts instead of exploring the interesting, emotionally connective parts and it makes him difficult to get a grasp on.
I will half agree with you on that, as his base lore did feel like it was trying to bite off more than it could chew.
With that said, it just opens up more oppotunities of going into depth of the less explored themes of his base lore in the tomes, especially the bombing and Jonah's personal guilt over it which yes, i too would say it probably more interesting than the math part to a certain extend.

I blame Pixel Bush honestly for his video where he completely omits important parts of his backstory and makes up random stuff.
Pixel Bush is legit the worst lore content creator, between things like-
- Blatantly chooses to omit or ignore important parts of a lore while acting like said lore itself got retconned when it doesn't match his own headcanon. (Nurse's lore and how he ignores the dream part despite it being an important symbollic bit of her lore, as well as acting like her tome retconned her existing lore because it didn't fit the popular headcanon of the mercy killing nonsense, despite the fact that Nurse's base lore was already incredibly barebone and vague to begin with as it was originally left up to interpretation before the tome was added)
- His inability to seperate his own political bias from a story when talking about lores as well as going off by his own feelings about the lores rather than staying factual about them, all the while twisting the portrayals of the lores to fit his own narratives of them regardless of how accurate it is or not. (Jonah's lore in general and partly applies to Nurse's lore as well)
- Starts pissing and moaning when specific side characters are treated like side characters rather than being treated to the same level as the main character because of arbitrary reasons. (Gabriel's lore with Sarah.)
- Creates his own fanfictions whenever he stumbles upon a lore he doesn't like and then presents it to the audience as something to be taken as canon over the official lore or that it's closer to fitting the source material than the official lore when it obviously doesn't. (Pyramid Head)
-
I wouldn't call that fighting it off, as all she did was just holding onto a rock when she fell in a cave.
Vecna's encounter with The Entity would be closer to fighting it off.

######### no.
Absolutely never.

It's not like Jonah did it himself anyway, he's just a data guy, someone else ordered the bombing.
It's not even that, it's that even though Jonah had no way of knowing the messages were decoys nor had any intentions of wanting to hit those civilians, people still blame Jonah for it despite the fact that it was clearly the rebels in his lore that created the decoy message to specifically and intentionally hit civilians to begin with.

Alan: Peak voicelines & peak lore, hands down best in the game, no contest.
Ash: It's Ash, nuff said
Ace: The only character in DBD that had a comedic tome lore, also his character is just in general really appealing to me.
Vittorio: Great cosmetics and second best Survivor lore.
Honorable mention: Cheryl, simply because of the James legendary skin she has.
