Probably Feng, just out of cash cow grumpiness and the way she sounds like a squeaky toy. I like her lore, but you can only watch her hog cosmetic releases for so long.

Lorewise I think Jonah's the biggest miss for me, if only because the part of his story where he Accidentally A Warcrime is really frickin' interesting and that got, like, no attention compared to his obsession with numbers, which is not something I can engage with at all. They really could have worked the guilt-stricken driven-to-madness angle leading him into the fog and they just… didn't? It's lightly implied but not worked with? Dunno. Like Skull Merchant, I struggle to connect who he's meant to be as a person.

    Accidentally A Warcrime

iirc an accident during war isn't considered to be the same as committing a war crime since ######### happens during war sometimes and that it needs to be intentionally done first before it becomes one.

  • I'd rather we didn't bring in licenses that are neither horror nor horror adjacent.

  • If we're going to be realistic about these picks, then this is what we're looking at in terms of how possible they are.

    1. According to Cote, the license covers the character, but there is complications with the license holder, so it sounds like a 50/50.
    2. The text above for 1 applies here as well.
    3. There ain't no such thing as a legendary skin that doesn't cost real life money, like the original Survivors, cosplay cosmetics are the closest we'll get to the rest of the Survivors.
    4. The license bhvr has only covers the remake and i don't see Warner Bros licensing out anything related to the OG movies anytime soon.
    5. The text above for 4 applies here as well.
    6. Should be possible
    7. Should be possible
    8. Should be possible
    9. If Sally ever were to come to the game, it would be more likely to be as a standalone dlc than as a legendary skin because it allows for the other characters of the first movie to be added as well for her.
    10. About as much chance as Butterball and Deep Throat being added to the game, which is none at all at the moment.
    11. Again, most likely their own Survivor for other characters to be added as legendary skins for them.
    12. Friday the 13th absolutely has to be a full chapter and next anniversary takes place on Jason's birthday. if Tommy Jarvis is not his own Survivor, it will an absolute disservice to the IP because of how highly requested and important it is to horror as a whole.
    13. Should be possible
    14. Should be possible, but since we haven't seen any content related to the installments beyond the third game, i'm giving it 50/50
    15. Should be possible
    16. Should be possible
    17. Should be possible
    18. Should be possible
    19. Definitely possible, but not as a skin for Alan because they're two seperate IPs. If Control ever were to be added, it most definitely would be as it's own chapter.
    20. Should be possible
    21. Should be possible
    22. Should be possible
    23. Not possible because the license bhvr have is with Remedy only and Quantum Break is owned by Microsoft.
    24. Should be possible
    25. Should be possible
    26. Should be possible
  • Renato & Thalita. Was never a fan of these two, especially Renato.

Haddie: Base Haddie we play as is the inferior version of all the different versions of the character, it should have been Tome Haddie instead that we got.

I quickly copied their first 2 drawings because I was starting the game. These are the other 2.

Completly mix-able, if there are more like these.

Those two look more casual than the previous two yes, however these types of casual cosmetics aren't really up my alley, so i'm still settling for a hard pass.

  • Never said they didn't, a good handful of the latest cosmetics look like cosplays too, however cosmetics like those two you've posted and cosmetics that are similar to those two aren't any better.

  • Hard pass.

Also these are anything but casual, they look like they been to a cosplay convention.

  • Change/rework/update any remnants of old DBD still remaining in the game.

  • It's not gonna be cosmetics because licensed characters exist.

Also i'd rather have something that doesn't make people feel required to prestige or else they would miss out on something cool, it's something that i've always hated when games does, especially the ones where it's just tedius grinding for the sake of grinding.

  • As long as it isn't bringing his old kit back, i couldn't care less what they do with him.

  • Hopefully it's not a revert back to old freddy in any way, shape or form.

While we're here, have Cenobite's chains in his FoV been fixed? Because previously every time you set a gate and it switches to launch the chain, there's this nauseating zoom in-out effect and it's VERY hard to aim with the chains when this happens. If it's not fixed, please fix it; Pinhead requires strong reflexes normally but this makes it that much harder. And while us Cenobite enjoyers are no strangers to a little pain, this is more than necessary.

That issue has already been fixed for some weeks now i believe.

Except you go through the passage right after the Survivor and the chase is back on with no distance lost.

But if you have any bloodlust, you lose it instantly. Which can definetly be an issue, if there is any strong loop nearby.

I really don't want this at any map, because it makes balancing the map very difficult and it's going to be bad for everyone in the end.

Even on current version of that map, when you go into portal in that star room, you can almost always against M1 killers reach the portal to go back into Tower. They are really close after the change.

Except if you break chase with bloodlust and then re-enters chase not long after, bloodlust kicks in again almost immediately.

Agree to disagree, i hope they add more cool and unique mechanics like passage to more maps, because it actually spices up the gameplay instead of being the same old boring shtick of pallets, breakable doors and windows only we see on 99% of every map and i hope bhvr doesn't remove or rework the passage mechanic.

Also i'm starting to think this community don't want any unique map mechanics in this game unless it's something that is so situational that almost nobody even bothers to use them (like the pipe system on Nostromo), because otherwise people just starts complaining about balance.

Basically only issue in that regard is you instantly lose the chase, which can definetly be annoying.

Then it can get power specific.

Except you go through the passage right after the Survivor and the chase is back on with no distance lost.

Outside of some of the killer powers, it really is not that big of a deal now, especially since loops are not nearly as close to the passages now as they were before.

Yes, they can and mainly you have killers like Knight, or Twins that get screwed by portals a lot.

But i'm not talking about killers using their powers in relation to passages as to me, that's an entirely different issue in of itself. I'm talking about the killers chasing after the Survivor by themselves, which in my experience, you lose no distance as killer when Survivors tries uses them in chase.

they clarified that licenses will never leave again as per their new contracts

Pretty sure that's not what they meant, as no license is permanent.

I know they've said that they'd do alot to keep the licenses they have in the game, as well as allowing people to keep the content they already bought, however they cannot keep licensed content available for purchase if the IP holders decides to pull the license one day. In fact, they even said that they don't know for how long the Stranger Things dlc will be available again and that people should get it while they can.

  • @Krazzik said:

If they make it so it isn't so survivor-sided it could be cool. Shouldn't be an easy way to just break chase for survs.

Pretty sure passages can't be cheesed by Survivors during chases any more after the latest change the mechanic got.

My bad, I could've sworn it was a Cold wind map, guess my memory of those times is kinda muddy, pun intended.

True that Licenced maps are at risk of being removed, so I agree that OG maps should get more of the focus. I don't think anybody wants another Hawkins situation. That said, it does kinda make me wonder why Chucky didn't get a map since his licence holders are reputably very friendly.

My guess would be the same reason why Freddy got a licensed tied map over Bubba, time and resources going into one unique map for one license, means any other chapters (original and licensed) will not get one as a result or at least will get a new variant for an existing realm.

Since the Alien chapter got it's own unique map, it means both Alan & Chucky doesn't get one.

  • @ArkInk said:

DnD just came with a new licenced map? Characters coming on their own isn't really new either. Bill and Bubba were some of the first things added, and although Bubba came with a new Coldwind variant it wasn't really tied to his release.

The Child's Play 2 Factory would've been cool, and I personally was really hoping for a leviathan map when Hellraiser released, but I think it's fine that every now and then we skip a map (BUT WHY CASTLEVANIA THO).

I think the current issue with licenses it that the community is getting burnt out on them. After Castlevania, we'll have had 7 of our past 10 releases be licenses. Skull Merchant, Singularity, Nic Cage, Alien, Chucky, Alan Wake, Unknown, DnD, Tomb Raider, Castlevania. And keep in mind that two of those three original releases were the oldest on the list. The balance between original and licenced chapters should always lean either on the even side or favoring original. Licences are good, but the more there are the more the OG cast risks getting forgotten if not expanded upon.

although Bubba came with a new Coldwind variant

He came with the Grim Pantry map, which is a swamp variant.

Also licensed maps in general are at risk of potentially getting removed in case the license gets removed too, so original maps are a safer bet to do for BHVR in the end.

Alan Wake is just screaming. I dont see any redeemable things in his voicelines, they dont really fit the game character and are just someone being loud. They are in fact a reason why I wont play him ever again.

    @Topic:

It depends. I think some voicelines are fitting, others not too much. I think Chucky and Wesker are fitting with their trashtalking. Alan Wake, as above, not so much. Same goes for Nicolas Cage, he talks far too much.

Unknowns voicelines are also really good, phenomenal work from the voice actress. Also I like the detail that the voice is clear when the Survivor is weakened.

That now every character gets voicelines (including original characters) is still not good IMO. Especially because most of them are pretty forgettable and if you implement forgettable voicelines, you might not implement any at all.

What 100% has to be implemented is a toggle for voicelines. If they decide to bring those in a game which purposely did not have voice lines for characters, they need to have an option to disable them.

Alan Wake is just screaming. I dont see any redeemable things in his voicelines

Except that's just objectively incorrect. He also have plenty of whispering and normal talking voicelines for when the trials starts, when he's completely healed by a teammate, when he gets downed, when he pulls an exit gate lever, when he goes afk and gets enough crows circling over him, when he messes up a generator skill check and when he successfully opens an exit gate. If you don't personally like them, fine, but to say that he's just screaming is just blatantly false.

they dont really fit the game character and are just someone being loud. They are in fact a reason why I wont play him ever again.

Completely disagree in every single way possible, they have every redeemable thing to them and very much fits his game character just as much as they would in his own game and are in fact why he will forever be my main and why i'm glad that bhvr have moved away from the mute characters of old DBD and made voicelines the new norm for future characters.

I agree voice lines do add more and I do like them but there's only so many times a guy can hear "I came" or Vecna's multiple spell voice lines before it gets old, personally I would like a option to disable them.

I don't agree one bit with the sentiment of voicelines getting old.

If bhvr wanna implement a client-sided voiceline enable/disable option then by all means, go ahead, but bhvr should not deviate from their current effort of giving characters voicelines or change any of the voicelines for characters who already has them in the game.

    This

I love the voice lines. I want them to keep talking. I love Tryx cause of her voice lines (huh, I guess you can't attach URLs cause it posts the thread but all well, see below I guess).

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/417558/anyone-else-love-the-weird-floating-lil-gremlin-girl

I would love for them to introduce lines to every character. The one thing I will say is that I understand a lot of people DON'T like it so they should have like…either a meter where you can customize how often it happens (Low, Medium, High or something like that) or at the very least just an option to toggle them off or on with the only exceptions being characters who do voice things for balance reasons (like Chucky giggling when he's in Hidey Ho mode, that should remain because it's part of his balance).

People either hate her or love her with no inbetween.

Personally i too like Tryks not only for the multiple personas she has, which she displays through the different tones & mannerism in her voicelines that she switches between, but also for her currently semi-mysterious & speculative lore surrounding her.

Overall i do hope to see her return next year.

Also i will die on the hill that out of all the original killers with voicelines, Singularity has the best one out of them all.

  • As a cosmetic collection, sure.

    As a chapter, no.

  • Complete and utterly disagree.

Voicelines adds depth to characters, makes Survivors feel more distinct from each other and quite frankly, should be given to way more of them.

Also Alan Wake absolutely needed voicelines as it gives him his flavor and personality from his own games and imo, is the best part about his Survivor in DBD.

I have never once seen a person ask for Lara Croft to be added to this game. What would be the point? People will play her, but with a list miles long of iconic horror franchises that could come to this game I feel like Tomb Raider wouldn't even be part of that conversation.

The only people i've seen asking for Lara Croft before her inclusion were just annoying & insufferable twitter stans.

  • @Yharwick said:

I mean Lara swims in rivers of blood watching her friends get killed by cultists and with how Nicholas Cage talks I'm not entirely convinced he doesn't worship Cthulhu so I don't think we're majorly off theme as of yet.

Even if we are not at that point yet, seeing as how people are asking for other non-horror characters from other non-horror IPs like Homelander from The Boys, Glados from Portal, Jacket from Hotline Miami, Kira from Jojo part 4, Vergil from Devil May Cry, Velociraptor from Jurassic Park, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy, Darth Vader from Star Wars, etc. It's only a matter of time before we get to that point of going full Fortnite with the game's theme.

It also doesn't change the fact that even with the moments in the 2013 game you've mentioned, Tomb Raider is an action adventure IP, not a horror IP, because the elements of those moments aren't the game's main premise and focus. Exploring ancient ruins and tombs in search of lost artifacts and treasures while navigating treacherous environments and battling against rival treasure hunters and other enemies is, it's generally closer to that of Uncharted and Indiana Jones than it is to other horror IPs.

    @Marc_123 said:

There also was Jurassic Park once :-)

Also lets go Doom and Metal Gear…

You forget one important thing - people had to select these IPs they want to see.

So it is kinda natural Bhvr went for them.

It is like "Hooked on you" - people maybe were joking but enought people wanted it, so they made it.

And as strange as it was i think this is in general pretty cool that they sometimes listen.

So blame it on the fans.

Side note - it is like the f…in microtransactions everywhere - do you think they would be there if nobody buys them?

Listening to the community has it's pros, but it certainly also have it's cons, as people want different things and not all of it is necessarily good for the game.

Also yes, i am partly blaming the community, because they're the ones who are encouraging bhvr to do it to begin with and why i wrote in a previous reply above that people want to see this game turned into Fortnite 2.0 rather than keeping it's theme horror focused.

  • @Nun_So_Vile said:

Considering the lifespan of this game is finite, I'd like to see them spend as much time and resources as they can getting strictly horror ips. It's not discussed much, but we all can identify which crossovers stick out like a sore thumb and i'd go out on a limb and say many of us have similar feelings about them. There are still a lot of modern and older horror icons left for both sides to possibly get in-game before they shut down the game for good. As much as I'd love for the game to go on forever, we're already quickly approaching a decade, and game performance arguably gets worse by the update.

Part of me believes Lara and Cage are just softening us up for the inevitable FNAF. It made both lists…

The game's lifespan is only as finite as it's popularity & player count exist and as long as BHVR can make money off of it, the game will continue indefinitely and you can bet they will do whatever they can to keep it going for as long as possible.

I fully expect Lara & Cage to just be the beginning and that BHVR will continue the trend of adding more non-horror characters going forward, sooner or later we're gonna have non-horror characters as killers too, just wait and see.

  • @Yharwick said:

My guy, this games core gameplay loop is survivors trying to escape from killers trying to put them on meat hooks and sacrifice them to an eldritch spider god. This game will never not be horror focused lol.

Only in terms of gameplay, not in terms of theme which i believe is equally as important to accompany the gameplay with, as without the theme to back it up with, it just isn't the same and the inclusion of non-horror IPs as chapters to me feels like the game's focus on it's horror theme is being lessen'd by it.

The fact that non-horror IPs were listed on these surveys as far back as almost half a decade ago now is pretty telling that BHVR had never intended on keeping DBD purely horror only

They asked the community. It's not some nefarious plot, more that many people were cool with the game having a much broader thematic framework than it started with. Some people might not like it, but they must have gotten enough positive responses to go down that road.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3751474#Comment_3751474

If people are fine with resident evil then they have to be fine with Lara Croft.

This is kind of where I'm at. I'll throw in Bill from Left for Dead as well. You're fighting zombies, but nothing about the game is horror. You're mowing down hundreds/thousands of enemies - it's an adrenaline rush of a game, nothing scary about it.

Because people wanna turn this game into Fortnite 2.0 rather than keeping it horror focused ig.

  • If they bring old Freddy back, he's automatically going to be my least favorite killer in the game.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/419093/changes-you-think-were-unnecessary

The Freddy rework was the best thing that ever happened to him. People have amnesia on this, but we were all blown away by Freddy's teleporting, his snares, and even his fake pallets. And actually getting to hit survivors before putting them to sleep, instead of manually doing it and giving them a head start for free. Only after his nerf, which apparently he needed because he was S tier as an M1 killer because matches lasted forever (malarkey), did he truly start to suck. If we undid the nerf in full, right now, could you honestly tell me he'd be higher than C tier? Bringing original Freddy back would land him in the exact same spot he is now: dead last.

And I'm just gonna say that Realm Beyond was necessary, and needs to be finished with the swamp realm. People shouldn't be able to pick dark outfits with Claudette, Ace, or Adam and be invisible because of the map's textures and lighting. There's also lots of bad designed tiles, especially in the main buildings, left in those maps.

imo, bhvr didn't take the realm beyond reworks far enough, they should have removed all map tints, overhaul'd all Killers graphically and their animations (old killers especially), kept the Survivor animation for the turning locomotion that got cut from the ptb that introduced the updated Survivor movement animations and quite frankly, should have updated even more of their animations such as healing animation, teammate interaction animation and opening of the exit gate animation.

Also hard agree, the Freddy rework was absolutely warranted as he was just uninteractive and just overall badly designed, people can call him fun all they want even though fun is subjective, but it doesn't change that he was objectively nothing more than a glorified M1 killer with extra steps and with an easily avoidable slowdown debuff slapped on with no means of capitalizing on it.

I agree the emotes of Friday did help remove horror themes but it was still more horrific than DBD. And Fridays goofy cosmetics (there were only 6) actually could make sense because they are college kids partying. Toilet paper mummy Dwight makes zero sense at all because the entity put them in it, not them just existing and being taken like that.

Also Friday never lost its fear factor for me because it was always scary when Jason was near. If you didn’t have a very rare pocket knife and you got grabbed, you were dead on the spot. No hook states, no second chances. The only time he wasn’t scary was when you had the sweater but even then it was still terrifying when he started shifting and teleporting behind you.

So if Lara had the word horror slapped into her game tags she would fit perfectly? She definitely has horror aspects to her game anyways. She’s definitely a better fit than the majority of characters we have now. She is a survivor, plain and simple; she doesn’t have to be horror related at all just survival related. Which she fits into perfectly and actually a character that the entity would definitely take.

I agree the emotes of Friday did help remove horror themes but it was still more horrific than DBD.

Not really, same way TCM isn't any more horrific when playing it long enough.

And Fridays goofy cosmetics (there were only 6) actually could make sense because they are college kids partying. Toilet paper mummy Dwight makes zero sense at all because the entity put them in it, not them just existing and being taken like that.

    1. Most cosmetics in DBD outside of the ones from the tome cinematics aren't canon to the lore as their clothings doesn't actually change while in the trials lore-wise as most cosmetics only exist as optional content for people to use, same way the cosmetic's descriptions aren't canon event to the characters they're for.
    2. The unreleased costumes for counselors beg to differ and while it may be unreleased, it doesn't change that it would have been added into the game by the devs had the license for the game not been pulled.

And it did for me, same way TCM did when playing it for long enough, asym games stops being scary eventually and just becomes either routine and unserious or just becomes tedious altogether.

Also Friday the 13th being scary with moments like in the video below or with counselors messing around by killing other counselors with the car while spam-honking the car horn.

It's not just slapping the word horror onto her game's tag, again, it's about the games not being created with horror as the main focus and premise of the IP to begin with.

Resident Evil is horror because it's about surviving and killing zombies, that is it's main premise & focus, there are treasures in it you can find sure, but that is not the main focus of the game.

Silent Hill is horror because the main premise & focus is navigating your way through an abandon scary town while your personal nightmares are manifested by the town of Silent Hill to kill you, which you have to kill them first.

Alan Wake 1 may not have been advertised as horror initially, but it's main premise and focus is very horror centered with the entire battle between light and dark theme it got going on or how people being taken by a dark malevolent supernatural entity and turned into shadowy mind slaves, which you have to use your flashlight and small amount of weaponry to fight them off while being alone in the forest for the majority of the game. The second game is not only advertised as, but also straight up created as a survival horror game, with it's main premise and focus being even way more darker than the first game.

Tomb Raider's main premise is exploring ancient ruins and tombs in search of lost artifacts and treasures while navigates treacherous environments and battles against rival treasure hunters and other enemies. It may have horror elements to it, but that doesn't make them horror games as they are not the main premise or focus of the games. None of the games were created with horror being the main premise & focus nor were they ever advertised as horror games.

The horror theme absolutely left with goofy cosmetics because it removes any serious tone the game could instill when people wear them. Actually I would say it was fine before then because survivors were the power role in the beginning. Friday was actually scary because Jason was a real threat, the killers in this game just aren’t that big of a threat so they aren’t as scary. Even then with the original 4 being archetypes, what about David? A literal catacomb exploring, grave robber fits better than 90% of the original survivors. It’s not like they brought in a killer from Tomb Raider. They brought her in as a survivor, after Nick Cage anything was possible.

The horror theme absolutely left with goofy cosmetics because it removes any serious tone the game could instill when people wear them.

Cosmetics are still optional content and not the main themes of the game that the focus centers around, also since you bring up Friday the 13th, it too have goofy cosmetics and silly dance emotes as well, therefore same logic would apply to it's tone as well.

Scary is subjective and things stops being scary when you play something for long enough, Friday is no exception to that.

Also a killer in this game is only as much of a threat as the killer people choose to play as and how good they are with them, which you will find that killers can very much be a threat to Survivors in the right hands.

Except those 90% of the original Survivors are objectively horror characters as they were created specifically for a horror game, DBD is advertised as horror since it was created with horror in mind as the main focus of the game's premise. Tomb Raider is not a horror game because it wasn't created as one since those horror elements isn't the main focus of it's premise, adventure and raiding tombs are, it is closer to that of Uncharted & Indiana Jones than it is to horror games.

They brought her in as a survivor, after Nick Cage anything was possible.

Sure, but that still doesn't make her a horror character, just a Survivor.

None of these posts make any sense at all. How does Dwight fit but Lara doesn’t? Are they not both humans? Lara is a literal tomb raider looking through caves and graves for artifacts while Dwight worked at a cafe or something. She fits into the game way more than Dwight. As for the horror element we left that over 6 years ago with the Halloween costumes and pajama cosmetics. Idk why people are just now complaining.

How does Dwight fit but Lara doesn’t?

It's about their point of origins, Dwight and the 3 other original Survivors are all nods to slasher archetypes, making them by default horror-oriented characters. Lara on the other hand is not that and is in fact from an action adventure IP, Tomb Raider having horror elements to it doesn't make it a horror IP nor her a horror character as those elements are not the focus of her games.

As for the horror element we left that over 6 years ago with the Halloween costumes and pajama cosmetics. Idk why people are just now complaining.

The difference is that those are cosmetics related, where as this is chapter related. The latter carries more significance to the game's theme & identity over the former as cosmetics are optional and isn't the default content like chapter's content are. All chapters up until Tomb Raider (with the exception of Nicolas Cage) have all been either about horror IPs or have been horror related in some fashion or form.

The horror theme didn't disappear because of cosmetics, because the horror elements and themes of the game's horror came from the default content of the dlcs, which there was a consistent pattern to the content before from all those dlc, which was that they were all horror related, however that pattern has now been broken with the inclusion of Tomb Raider and that is why people are complaining.

It's still anime, but Part 1 does take itself pretty seriously as it was the initial pitch for the series. You can take a lot more risks when you're established.

There are few villains more evil than Dio, fewer still with as much charisma and sass. Couple that with some cool and pretty varied powers, and you could have a decent Killer. Freeze on contact, pressurized blood shooting from eyes, regeneration, hypnotism, super strength and speed, etc etc

I mean, Hellsing is pretty much pure action-horror and it takes itself less seriously than JoJo's Part 1.

I suppose, i will admit that part 1 Dio at least looks like a infinitely better pick than Kira from part 4, because at least the gothic horror theme is there to back up Dio's inclusion.

Although adding anime characters is gonna be tricky in general due to the graphics of anime in general, because if you keep the artstyle of the show for the character you add, it will clash with the rest of the game's artstyle and if you change the character to fit the artstyle of the game, it might look weird and disappointing.

Hey hey hey, Part 1 is firmly entrenched in gothic horror.

And how unserious and over the top is part 1 compared to the rest of the series?

Because i am, or at least was, a firm believer that only purely horror anime and mangas should be allowed to be added to DBD if there ever was to be any in the game.

    I need to see it.

Imma be honest, before Tomb Raider was added, i would have been strongly against the inclusion of Jojo, but at this point it's pretty much whatever since BHVR is most likely gonna add things that are even further from horror.

Nothing is scarier than android existentialism. And Yoko Taro making DBD canon to Nier.

inb4 BHVR makes Emil scoot around across the entire realm blasting his shop song at max volume canon to DBD's lore.

  • I'm still waiting for people to provide some solid evidence about the claim that Pinhead's map was even supposed to happen in the first place, because the people who originally said that both he and Sadako was supposed to have their own maps, but that they both ended up being scrapped have given us nothing but ''Trust me bro'' answers.

I think people are pretty silly about how purist they try to pretend to be about horror in this game. What is a survivor? They are just a human trying to survive against the entity. Any human. What makes Dwight more of a "horror" character than Lara? Read his lore. He's literally just some random loser.

The difference is that the original Survivors are nods to slasher archetypes (E.G. the Nerd, the Jock, the Virgin, etc) where Lara is an action adventure character because the IP is that, similar to that of Indiana Jones or Uncharted, there might some horror elements in Tomb Raider, but that doesn't make it a horror IP nor her a horror character, as those horror elements in it aren't the focus of her games.

Charles doesn't serve Damballa. He just invokes him to do voodoo stuff. The voodoo can be used by anybody, Charles just actively uses it for murder shenanigans. Cult of Chucky does say that he learnt new spells from the internet and Tiffany is shown with a For Dummies book on the subject, which shows that it's somewhat mainstream in the universe. Like subgenres of hiphop or the Minecraft Forums or computer coding. Huge if you're a part of it but tiny otherwise.

Except when Chucky kills someone, he's also killing for Damballa by default as well. In fact, the entirety of season 3 of the Chucky TV series is about Chucky killing people in the white house to impress Damballa after he was forsaken'd by his god because he cheated on Damballa in season 2 after practising catholic exorcism, Chucky even calls Damballa his one true god when they meet in the spirit realm in season 3, i would say that counts as Chucky serving Damballa.

Because personally, i feel like i dont get interested in them 90% of the to time and i think its because BHVR does a bad job at integrating them in a way that makes them feel interesting to someone more familiar with DBD than with its license, though its important to know that its most likely not also not BHVRS fault entirely and much of it are ######### ups by the license holders. Take Hellraiser for example, your opinion of Pinhead will likely be very influenced on rather you have seen and what you think about the franchise, where he is not even the main villain in the first two movies but i think many players understandably already think they get a good idea about him actually based on misconceptions and never checking out the source.

I think most players dont even realise how bad he fits into DBD the way BHVR integrated him, to the point where much of the lore about him in DBD seems to have been made up to fill the gaps, why is he there? Why does he even bother to do the entities bidding when he already serves a different god and can apparently come and go whenever he feels like it? Why doesn't the entity do something about that weird BDSM Priest that it can't even control and may decide to ######### with it in the future? Is the entity actually so stupid it can't even see how that can backfire big time? Most answers from these questions seems to have no source other than someone else in the community came up with the idea for it first.

So, what can happen to change that? I think about Integrating them more closely in a way that makes the character feel consistant throughout both franchises while still changing them to allow to fit into DBD more flawlessly.

Otherwise choose characters that naturally would fit into DBD in unique ways and fill some gaps, for example take Fabius Bile if they ever do a Warhammer based chapter.

Pinhead's lore is someone solved the box inside the realm and Pinhead does his thing of bringing pain and suffering to people in the trials across the realm, there is no specific point in time from if it takes place before or after Hellraiser 1 and it's not like it doesn't fit his character.

We have no proof that Pinhead can come and go as he pleases, even less if Pinhead can actually send Survivors to hell or not with his mori since they always end up back at the campfire. In fact, the only way Pinhead can go back to hell is if the lament configuration is reset, which as seeing as how it doesn't send him back to hell when it is reset in the trials, it would suggest that The Entity has tampered with the box and is forcing him to remain in the realm to participate in the trials without anything he can do to escape.

Pinhead have no reason to go against the Entity as the trials are a Cenobite's paradise pretty much, serving another god is irrelevant, as the only thing that does matter is if he participate in the trials and feeds The Entity, especially since Pinhead is stuck as he can't use the box to return to hell. Same goes for Chucky & serving Damballa, he can't leave either but have no problem indulging himself in the trials to sacrifice Survivors.

Also you don't know if The Entity can or can't control Pinhead. Besides, if he's already below his own god Leviathan and the likes of Vecna & Castlevania Dracula, then he's most certaintly below The Entity as well and won't be able to mess with it due to the nature of what The Entity itself is and how we still don't know the full extend of it's powers, that and Pinhead would need to reach a power level akin to that of Vecna to even be considered a potential problem for it, but even then, the mark of negation exist.

Also The Entity is protected by Ash Williams levels of plot armor, it's gonna find a way to do things and be ontop of the characters it brings into the fog.

As for if people are actually interested at checking franchise the IPs are from? I've checked out every license's source material that made it into the game exactly because they got added, so i would say yes to that.

    True.

Didn't know that about Remedy's decision in terms of the canon, that's really cool actually.

You can check the article for yourself if you wanna see it.

Go behind-the-scenes with Dead by Daylight’s Creative Director Dave Richard, Alan Wake 2’s Creative Director Sam Lake, and more to discover how Alan Wake came to The Fog.

I mean, it took Alan Wake 13 years to escape the Dark Place, and he doesn't have access to the Writer's Room anymore. I think he's here to stay, mark or no mark.

Won't really matter if he got the writers room or not since it's the clicker that makes whatever he writes come true, without it he's just an ordinary person.

Also because both Remedy & BHVR devs in an article have stated that Alan Wake's appearance in DBD is, or at least can be considered canon to both DBD & Alan's own game lore and main timeline as one of his many failed escape attempts from the dark place inbetween the events of Alan Wake 1 & 2, it means that he is going to canonically escape the fog too and end up back in the dark place as a result.

Man this lore stuff is confusing, everything I find online about this mark is different, some people say it's just meant to nerf killers that would be too strong to be fair in the trials but not strong enough to escape or stand a chance against the entity like Sadako for example while others say it's just to nerf the killers actually capable of escaping

If we're gonna be objective about it, then the segment of Mathieu Cote talking about the mark itself and what he says about it are the only thing that truly matters about it lore-wise, at least until something official is stated about it in-game as well.

Ok what about Pinhead then? For one he's only in the realm in the first place because someone opened his box and apparently Pinhead can move objects with his mind, and bend reality to his will, Pinhead is described as an extremely powerful being.

Except because Pinhead is below Leviathan, he's also going to be below The Entity, also Pinhead and every other cenobite have their glaring weakness of being bound to the lament configuration and cannot return to the realm if it's reset unless purposefully summoned again with it, something Vecna does not suffer from and from what i understand, have dealt with beings more powerful than himself before in the past, of course he won't be doing anything to The Entity because of the amount of plot armor it has.

Also his power level doesn't reach Vecna levels of ultra powerful, Castlevania Dracula however would be closer to that of an ultra powerful killer who would need the mark.

  • No because the mark is meant for ultra powerful killers only and neither Freddy nor Sadako need one, as not only do they not come close to fitting that that description, but they also don't even come remotely close to Vecna's power level.
