Vecna is the only Killer that the Entity has placed an actual seal on in order to contain. The only reason he's even here is to study the Entity and learn how to harness its power for himself. Since he's still only an archlich and not the literal god of death, it's still a bit questionable if he COULD, but he's definitely the closest.

Pinhead's powerful, but I'm pretty sure he's not a cosmic level powerhouse even with the Leviathan, and that's assuming the Leviathan can even reach Pinhead in the Realms, which is highly doubtful.

There is nothing any of the Stranger Things cast could do against the Entity to even get its attention. They get beaten by normal teenagers with only a moderate amount of effort, a cosmic nightmare is nothing for them.

Most of what people claim as fact about the Dredge is little more than speculation. All we know about it is that it is a manifestation of negative emotions that formed when Otto Stamper caused his cult to spiral into hatred and violence. That's it. There's nothing to imply that it even CAN get stronger than it currently is.

Every time people say Sadako is a being that could actually threaten the Entity, I go a little more insane. In the novels, Sadako is ridiculously powerful, and if that was who we were talking about here, then maybe. But, despite popular belief, I can PROVE our Sadako comes from the MOVIE rendition with a SINGLE WORD. Yoichi. He doesn't exist in the novels (and neither does Reiko, whose watch is one of Sadako's add-ons). Movie Sadako is NOWHERE NEAR the power of the Entity.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha7HAG6jVqc

It's legit refreshing to see someone who actually gets it for once, because it drives me nuts every time i see someone on reddit spread the same inaccurate nonsense about any of the licensed characters.

Also just to add to your points regarding Pinhead and Sadako.

    • None of the content from Sadako's chapter ties back to the Ringu novels, like at all. Every Add-on is a call back to the first and second Ringu movie, Yoichi like you said is exclusively from the first 2 Ringu movies, both Sadako & Yoichi's backstories are not only solely connected to, but also specifically about the events that occured in the first and second Ringu movie from the Hideo Nakata Timeline. The only thing that said anything about the novels is the initial marketing page bhvr posted that briefly stated ''inspired by the novels and the movies'' however even that only says ''inspired by'' and not ''based on'', so that too already doesn't mean anything.

    • Pinhead is absolutely below The Entity, in fact he's not even the strongest Cenobite in hell as he and his original gash was killed with ease by Dr. Channard in Hellraiser 2. Also the people who loves to claim that Pinhead can come and go from the realm as he pleases or that he can send Survivors back to the labyrinth have legit never watched Hellraiser. The Lament Configuration as we can see in-game has clearly been tampered with by The Entity to not work as it normally would, as it disappears whenever someone interacts with it in any way, meaning Pinhead is essentially stuck indefinitely like everyone else. Which also means that, it is also highly likely that his mori doesn't actually send Survivors back to hell since we never actually see them end up in hell and the Survivors ends up back at the campfire instead every time and the only reasons he would think so given his mori voice line, is because he's being tricked by The Entity.
  • Here's what i'm expecting from the chapter.

Springtrap is gonna be the main killer, while the other animatronics is gonna be skins.

Springtrap's Killer title is going to be one of the following, although my money is on number 3.

    1. The Animatronic
    2. The Attraction
    3. The Mascot
    4. The Springtrap
    5. The Spring Bonnie

Survivor is 50/50, although if we get one, it's most likely gonna be Michael as he seems to be the most recurring protagonist from the game series, not to mention that we know what he sounds and looks like.

Map is 50/50, although if we get one, it's probably going to be an indoor map that's an amalgamation of the different restaurants seen throughout the main game series.

Springtrap's perks is gonna have something to do with Generators and The Undetectable Status Effect.

BHVR is gonna try and incorporate the camera surveillance mechanic from the game into Springtrap's power in some way or form that the Survivor can use as a way to counter Springtrap, as well as incorporating the animatronic jumpscares from the fnaf games into Springtrap's mori or lobby animation.

Incredibly narrow minded view of what horror can and can't be.

If Tomb Raider slapped a horror tag on Steam would it then count as a horror IP to you?

DBD doesn't need to exclusively take from franchises that call themselves horror. As long as it is thematically and tonally consistent, it is okay.

Except that's why genres exist, DBD falls within the horror genre because it was created with the intent of being horror, Tomb Raider is not a horror IP because it is not created with the intent on being horror primarily.

So the Hour of the Witch chapter is more rooted in horror than Tomb Raider? Mikaela is just a girl that dabbles in witchcraft. Tomb Raider is a franchise that involves demons, cannibals, murder and ritualistic sacrifice. Which chapter seems more 'horror'?

Mikaela is original to DBD, which is created and classified as a horror game, which makes her a horror character by default just like all other original characters created for the game itself.

Nor is Dungeons & Dragons, or Rainbow Six Siege. Horror is subjective. What one person finds scary another will laugh at.

Tomb Raider is far from the most disappointing chapter and 100% deserves a place in the game.

R6 (much like AOT) is cosmetic only so that's completely irrelevant as this is purely about chapters only and Dungeons & Dragons can be excused because it's a game engine that exist to be whatever people want it to be, which includes horror, which the D&D chapter is heavily theme'd around both with the map and with the Killer himself.

Tomb Raider is just Lara Croft only, there is no horror-adjacent killer included, the IP itself is not horror nor does it try to be or advertise itself as being that, it's themes in the game are not nearly horror focused enough and i will never not consider it the most disappointing chapter we've ever had so far.

Have you played the Survivor Trilogy? Getting shipwrecked on a remote island by a powerful supernatural entity, then being hunted down by an insane cult that is doing everything it can to kill you and your friends, seems pretty horrifying to me. You probably haven't even heard of the Yaaxil..

I've watched the Survivor Trilogy and yes i know of the Yaaxil, it doesn't change the fact that it is still an action adventure IP and not a horror IP, nor is the Survivor trilogy itself advertised as horror.

Since we got a kpop killer I legit do not care if anyone that doesn’t have the horror essence enters dbd

We also got dungeons and dragons

And Lara Croft is known by everyone, in my opinion she was a good addition to dbd.

Trickster is still a horror character and that's reflected in all from his lore to his mannerism in game, he's as much horror as Norman Bates and Patrick Bateman is horror and him being kpop or having a colorful attire doesn't change or exclude him from being that, as horror can be both colorful and non-conventional.

Dungeons & Dragons can be excused because it's a game engine to be whatever you want it to be and the devs went with a horror setting and very horror-adjacent killer.

Tomb Raider is not a horror IP nor is it even remotely horror-adjacent as the scary elements aren't the main focus of the IP, exploring tombs and old ruins is, same way how Lara is only a Survivor, not a horror Survivor. The IP is closer to that of Indiana Jones and Uncharted than it is to horror.

Tomb raider isn’t close to be disappointing in my opinion.

It is to me, because it's not a horror IP and it certainly is not horror-adjacent enough.

All Lara's inclusion does is allowing any future licensed content to not necessarily be horror and still allow it to be added to the game regardless.

  • No, because Tomb Raider exist and the only thing missing from Xeno's power for me is Wall Crawling, give it that and i'd consider Xeno to be perfect powerwise.

  • Any pink veins on prestige weapons is a bug, as all prestige weapon veins is and have always been meant to be red.

    Vecna or Pinhead.

However Vecna is actually restricted by the Entity, so that would discard him.

Pinhead, however, seems more like it. Cenobites that enter the realm are allowed to take survivors with them which means one of these two things: the entity is frightened of them and/or the Leviathan, or they are equal in power and did trike a deal that benefits them all.

About Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer and Henry are not that strong, they aren´t gods, just the commanding beings of a hivemind that posess psychic powers. That's it.

Sadako also isn't a god, she is the manifestation of a curse. A memory and an echo of a girl with psychic powers that died.

And dredge…well, we don't know what it is exactly but it is for certain it is nowhere near the Entity's power level, and that seems to be quite clear from what we know about it. It is a manifestation af bad thoughts that posesses a realm of its own as well, but it isn't as big as the Entity's realm.

Pinhead, however, seems more like it. Cenobites that enter the realm are allowed to take survivors with them which means one of these two things: the entity is frightened of them and/or the Leviathan, or they are equal in power and did trike a deal that benefits them all.

Except we don't know if they can actually take Survivors or not, let alone leave The Entity's realm at will.

It's very likely that The Cenobites are being tricked into thinking that they can, but in actuality can't actually send anyone outside the realm and back to hell, as we never actually see Survivors end up there during Pinhead's mori, however we do always see them return to the campfire right after Pinhead's mori finishes. I even less believe that neither Pinhead nor any of the other Cenobites can actually leave the realm and is actually stuck indefinitely like everyone else who's been abducted, as The Lament Configuration in DBD doesn't function like it normally would in the movies, as it has clearly been tampered with by The Entity itself to disappear whenever anyone interacts with it.

  • No, they don't need the mark and doesn't come close to that of Vecna's power level that justify the mark added onto him

Also Trevor without his weapon is just a normal human, it's the weapons that the Belmonts wield that gives them their abilities and Alucard doesn't need a mark to be nerfed out of his vampire abilities.

  • The IP's reputation is too tarnished due to the creator.

  • Might as well lower your expectations then, because it's most definitely going to become a popularity contest between Survivors and there is no way the submissions for the more popular characters won't make it to the finalists.

The only way less popular characters are going to win is if the chosen outfits for them looks visually more captivating than what the finalist submission for the popular characters does.

I'd struggle to care less about this franchise being added to the game. I know nothing about it and it looks like a game for kids, tbh. I think I was around 29 years old when it came out, so no surprise that it passed me by.

Castlevania is a big deal, but I'm not feeling optimistic about DBD's future licensed content if the likes of Tomb Raider and Five Nights At Freddy's are being added to the game before horror icons like Jason Voorhees or The Terminator.

Oh well, at least it makes some of the things on my borderline not quite horror but kinda horror adjacent wishlist a bit more likely (stuff like Gremlins, Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters).

Considering all of those IPs you just mentioned with the exception of Gremlins was listed in the last 2 license satisfaction surveys, i think it's fair to say that it's only a matter of time before Terminator and Friday ends up in DBD as well, especially Friday given the whole Jason Universe thingy that's happening right now.

  • The license holders (in this case Konami) decides that, not bhvr.

  • The crawling animation in the anniversary trailer isn't unused asset, it's just the mori animation being played.

  • @Chaogod said:

TBH that mark is very likely part of the deal that Wizards set with them. But Vecna is absurdly powerful and is a literal god who really at his peak could rival the entity.

Dracula is very powerful but I don't think he would need a mark. He tends to lose to the Belmont's who more often than naught are humans in peak physical condition with a magic whip. So it's not difficult to take him down and his spell kit isn't as wide as Vecnas.

Except the Vecna we have is pre-ascended Demi-god Vecna, as in this is Vecna while he's still only just an Arch-Lich.

  • Anything anime or manga related that's not horror is an automatic hard pass for me, so the only thing Jojo related i'm fine with being added is if it's Dio from Phantom Blood due to the gothic horror theme that's in part 1.

While he should not have the mark of negation he's certainly been nerfed in this realm canonically he can tank shotgun blasts a pallet wouldn't stun him period not to mention he should be running very faster and hit a lot harder

    Never said he wasn't nerfed.

  • Realistically none of them because plot armor.

  • No.

The mark is reserved for the ultra powerful killers only such as Vecna & Dracula, it is not there to explain why every killer is the way they are.

Nemesis does not come near that type of power level regardless of it's ability to adapt into any situation through mutation, in fact it doesn't take the mark to have Nemesis be faced by getting hit from a pallet.

Ah, i said that because of the buddy above me said that Ceno can go in and out as he pleases so i just though it was true.

I suppose he doesnt have the mark then because he is still weaker than the entity.

I don't know where it originated from, but It's something that i've seen people repeat again and again, but alas, it's simply just isn't true.

In the movies, the Cenobites uses The Lament Configuration to create gateways/rifts between the labyrinth in hell to wherever the box is located at along with whoever that solved it. The only way for the cenobites to go back is to reset the box to close the gateway created by it, which is how Kirsty defeats them in the first movie and how Leviathan is defeated in the second movie.

In DBD, the box has evidentally been tampered with by The Entity, causing it to instead disappear immediately after anyone interacts with it, regardless of whether someone solves it or resets it.

Pinhead is definitely below The Entity, in fact, Pinhead is not even the strongest Cenobite, Dr. Channard in Hellraiser 2 easily defeated both him and his gash. (Although that was because Channard became an extension of Leviathan itself.)

In the same sense, despite what Pinhead's mori suggest, i don't believe Survivors actually end up in hell since we never actually see them there, but rather finds them back at the campfire as usual. Depending on how you look at it, The Entity may be tricking Pinhead into thinking he's sending Survivors to hell when in actuality, he's not.

  • @albertoplus said:

As far as i know the Mark of Negation is put on Killers that both need to be under control and are as powerful or even more powerful than the Entity itself.

If the Entity can subjugate the killer by itself, no Mark of Negation is needed, thats why killers like Wesker, Nemesis, Alien or even more powerful ones like Freddy (in Dream world) dont have it. They can be extremely powerful but the Entity itself (which as i far as i know has some universal powers or something) is still stronger than them, it is not needed.

Thats why it was put on Vecna, that guy was literally resisting the Entity and only accepted to get caught because he wanted to. Other killers like Cenobite may be powerful and can go in and out at the entity's realm, but they are maybe just not seen as danger, as they actually do what the Entity wants to be done in the trials.

Cenobite may be powerful and can go in and out at the entity's realm

Except they can't as The Lament Configuration has clearly been tampered with by The Entity to not function as it normally would, meaning that unless they find another way to create a gateway back to the labyrinth, both Pinhead and Chatterer are stuck in the realm indefinitely like everyone else is.

  • Except the devs have said during the 2v8 livestream that the answer on if it will be permanent or not does not have a definitive answer yet, as this is just the first iteration of 2v8, from which they'll continue working on the mode based on the feedback they get from previous iterations regarding it.

Once the mode is polished and refined enough, then they'll begin considering if the mode is to become permanent or semi-permanent.

And how long will that take to make the decision? A few weeks, months, a year? Me and many many other players don't want to wait that long. The mode is a massive success and very popular. It shouldn't be taken away from us for no reason in 2 weeks.

You're better off asking bhvr themselves about that as only they would truly know, since the only real information we have is only the segment from the livestream about the topic.

    Time-stamped for your leisure.
    From 1:28:57 to 1:30:04

    https://www.youtube.com/live/QEe2ZZnKy08?si=p19Jnec16A5ydtSm&t=5337

If i had to guess, they don't have a specific date and that they'll simply just continue working on it for however long they feel like until they deem that the mode is polished and refined enough for final release, depending on community reception of course.

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

It was never intended to stay forever. They were quite clear about this in just about all their communication regarding the mode.

They also made it clear that there is no definitive answer right now as to whether or not it will become a permanent, as this version of 2v8 is just the first iteration, where they will continue to refine and work on it the mode based on the feedback from previous iterations for when they bring it back next time.

It's only once the mode has been iterated on enough that the big discussion on whether or not the mode will become permanent or semi-permanent will begins for them.

  • None of them really, they may be highly requested but they're either unlikely to happen or they're better off as full chapters. (The latter applies especially to Friday the 13th.)

I believe March chapter is going to be something entirely else that was listed on one of the last 2 license satisfaction surveys from 2021 & 2023.

Chase music fitting characters should matter way more over being bop and current chase music actually fits PH more because it actually sounds like music from SH2 as got the same musical vibe from it, with it's use of heavy industrial tools and metal noises as instruments in the chase music akin to how it is in that game he's from, whereas the ptb track sounds more like the music from SH1.

Also SH's composer had a hand in making all the music for PH in DBD and the change from ptb to live was probably something he had some say in when they decided which track to use for live.

Omg. The last pharagraph could be a possible nominator for a unique mori.

Except it again, wouldn't do it properly justice because it still wouldn't have the aspect to it that made Facehuggers scary to begin with.

generally, i don't think Facehuggers should be anything more than what it already is, a map easter egg, as anything beyond that wouldn't or couldn't do it right.

No facehugger in power btw just animation when a survivor dies hook or by xenos hand.

Facehugger as a mori would only make sense for the Xeno Queen skin to have and even then, it wouldn't have a satisfying payoff no matter what. As either the Facehugger is accurate to the time it takes before it falls off, meaning it never comes off the hugged Survivor for the rest of the trial, leaving out the chestburster completely. If the Survivor gets faced hugged quickly but then it falls off moments after before a chestburster comes out, it would be nothing more than simply just trying to cram it in without doing it properly because it takes sometime first.

As for the Xeno death hook animation, the only way i can see that realistically working is if a Survivor is hooked in the basement on first hook, where the Survivor gets hugged by one until someone rescues them, then when they reach the third hook stage, a chestburster would comes out. My problem with this however is that it doesn't have that marked for death inevitability aspect to it when hugged that the Facehugger had to it in the first movie, which is where it's horror originates from. It also repeats the issue that the mori thing had, which is that the facehugger falls off way too quickly after latching onto a Survivor if they are rescued moments afterwards.

  • I'm glad Facehuggers are not part of Xeno's power in DBD, no matter what way it would have been implemented, it would never have been done properly justice.

That was the point though. The cosmetics they get beyond the default don't have to be canon to be relevant to DBD's theme. They exist as a variation of the character that could have been used as the default. Ultimately its about marketing and making profit. Even still I think this rift and everything else in the game so far fits. If you look at some of the outfits like Sable's summer skin you wouldn't think that would be anything more than just a style of bikini she would wear but she also has a giant wound on her back which shows that horror element.

That was the point though. The cosmetics they get beyond the default don't have to be canon to be relevant to DBD's theme. They exist as a variation of the character that could have been used as the default.

Except they exist to replace the default cosmetics with optional cosmetics, that doesn't make those optional cosmetics defaults like the base cosmetics are, since defaults are only the base/starting outfits that all characters have equipped to begin with, there can't be multiple defaults for the same character.

Also what could or couldn't have been used as a default instead doesn't matter in the slightest, either a cosmetic is or isn't the default outfit, there is no inbetween on this.

Ultimately its about marketing and making profit.

It's always been about money, even before when bhvr actually kept their cosmetics in line with the rest of the game's tone and aesthetic, so all that means is that bhvr is willing to sacrifice the game's existing horror in pursuit of money should it suit them to do so.

It also doesn't change the fact that cosmetics like the most recent rift ones doesn't fit with the rest of the cosmetics in the game, no other cosmetics in this game come as close to how DBD Mobile cosmetics looks like on mobile, even the cosmetics that are directly ported from mobile itself are noticably changed up in how they look on core DBD to fit with the rest of cosmetic's tone and aesthetic on there.

If you compare how mobile cosmetics on mobile itself looks and how core cosmetics looks, the difference between both of them becomes very apparent with how much they stand out from each other, unlike the new rift outfits and the upcoming Feng outfit when compared with the average mobile outfit on mobile itself and how much closer they are to each other.

If you look at some of the outfits like Sable's summer skin you wouldn't think that would be anything more than just a style of bikini she would wear but she also has a giant wound on her back which shows that horror element.

Exactly my point, even recent cosmetics like the Sable's beach skin have at least some elements of DBD's horror aesthetic and theme with elements like blood, fabric-tears or just in general being dirtied up, things most cosmetics on core DBD have a visible amount of.

The new rift cosmetics however does not have any of that and in fact are completely clean and factory new looking, the same way cosmetics on DBD Mobile itself are exactly just like that, which coupled with unnecessary particle effects like the fox tail and glowing hair for Yui or the upcoming Feng outfit, these new types of outfits stand out like a complete sore thumb as they contrast almost every other existing core DBD cosmetic in the game currently. As unlike them, these new type of Fortnite looking skins have not a single shred of horror to them.

Games like tf2 & rainbow six: siege lost their original aesthetic, theme and tone by embracing these types of glossy and shiny eye-candy looking cosmetics, DBD will suffer the same fate as those games if it continues down this path by adding cosmetics that are just like these new ones.

  • Hard pass, with the exception of a handful of IPs that are heavily horror adjacent to begin with, chapters should primarily be focusing on horror IPs, however when it comes to Killers, i firmly believe it should only be horror characters that gets added as such.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3761890#Comment_3761890

They're not entirely irrelevant. Most of the cosmetics from what I've seen reflect something about the character. Either that or they reflect a moment in their life or an alternate reality of them. They basically could've been a version of the character that the entity could've taken. The cosmetics enhance the characters and make them more interesting. They would all be quite boring if most of their cosmetics were just different variations of torn bloody clothes.

They can reflect something from a character such as being in line with a character's theme or personality, however that doesn't make those skins or skin descriptions canon to the characters themselves by default, as none of the skins outside the ones that appear in tome cinematics are part of their base and tome lores directly, also we have no proof from the lore itself that cosmetics are in fact alternative reality versions of the characters, as it is never directly backed up by the lore itself. The only parts of the lore that we know are specifically alternative reality versions are mainly the characters featured in the NPC tome entries.

Also i specifically remember from a livestream 2-3 years ago with the devs, that Cote said that cosmetics aren't canon and that only the default ones are, unfortunately however it's source cannot be traced back to it's origin because bhvr doesn't save all of their twitch livestreams, so take it with a grain of salt.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3761873#Comment_3761873

I understand where you're coming from but in all fairness I think these cosmetics fit very well into DBD's world. DBD isn't just exclusively horror themed. It has fantasy elements as well. The main antagonist is a giant space spider monster than can alter realities. Most of DBD's killers have fantasy themes in their design. Magic and spirits are very much a part of DBD.

Cosmetics are irrelevant to the lore because outside of the few additional ones that appears in tome cinematics, cosmetics in general aren't canon and their descriptions aren't canon events either, that's why most cosmetics you see in the lore that Survivors and Killers wear are the default ones primarily.

It may not be exclusively horror, but that is it's primary theme overall and in mostly all other themes the game has dabbled in at least reflected that one way or another, even the existing Spirits and Magic also reflected that horror theme. Also The Entity is straight up eldritch horror through and through with any other elements to it being completely minor and secondary.

These newer cosmetics have none of that and quite frankly is nothing more than aesthetic bait same way DBD Mobile cosmetics are, all clean, fantastical, nothing the characters would actually wear and no trace of the horror theme of the game.

These kinds of cosmetics are exactly what's gonna end up turning DBD into TF2 if it continues down this path.

I'm guessing nothing for any of the characters you play made it into the rift this time? If not then I don't understand how anyone who plays this game can't appreciate how good this rift is.

It has nothing to do with the characters i play not making it in, it's purely by the fact that the direction these cosmetics are taking is veering too far into DBD Mobile/Fortnite cosmetic territory with how clean, fantastical and eye-candy looking for the sake of just being eye-candy these cosmetics are, as they completely disregard the game's existing theme, aesthetic and things associated with them such as blood-stain, fabric tears and generally looking dirtied up & worn out (Especially by adding overly ostentatious things like glowing hair and spirit parts or animated effects.)

We've had cosmetics before in the same vein, but at least they had the aforementioned elements and mostly looked like something characters would actually own and wear, never taking it to such a level like these new cosmetics are taking it.

  • I'm pretty indifferent on the IP, so it's inclusion is pretty whatever to me.

With that said though, good luck getting Warner Bros on board for that in the first place, because i highly doubt they wanna allow others to use it for the time being unless it's a company under their own umbrella.

  • Only good thing about this rift are the free shards and additional pages of bloodpoints, as well as the recolors.

The rest however is pretty bad, especially the Yui skin.

  • On release date you get the extra items for DBD when both Frank Stone and DBD are linked to your behavior account.

    Agree to disagree on this?

I think this leans more towards an opinionated topic since I use to feel that way before but over time I have grown more use to this kind of stuff. Past a certain point I just kind of stopped caring since the game has changed a lot and so does the game's art direction, we are not in 2016 anymore.

I mean sure, we can agree to disagre.

However i will say this: Even for the 2021 change in the artstyle, it at least still retained the elements of it's identity from the previous artstyle, this however completely removes that and if we keep going the direction the game is currently heading towards, DBD is gonna end up like tf2 eventually with unusual cosmetics and a completely disregarded theme, aesthetic and artstyle (if it hasn't already reached that stage at this point) and the new rift plus Tomb Raider just feels like they're heavily pushing towards that and i'm just tired of the game going in that direction.
