Fascinating! I wasn't aware of community reaction to that teaser. I was of the impression the 4 Legion characters in the Chapter Splash, and ofc the trailer cemented that idea pretty quick, then had to be ditched, mostly cause of the points above. The more you know.
Ardetha does a nice breakdown of Legion's release, which was my first introduction looking at the character.
Kinda bonkers seeing the power how it was on release... yikes 😅
Yeah I've been around for quite some time now, so I have a good bit of knowledge when it comes to these kind of things
Those videos posted above does do a decent job, al though it does get a few things wrong (such as what was mentioned previously, and other videos like them are similar)
How most people did play Legion wasn't the Moonwalking way but the chase way which was just as frustrating to play against. Didn't matter how good you were as Survivor, nothing you could do to stop a Legion from popping his power when you were at a window or pallet to get another hit. One thing that made this more effective and actually some what work is the fact that Legion didn't have to wait for their power to be fully recharged in order to use it, they just needed 10%. Pair that up with a faster recharge of 15 seconds from full use and you could do literally nothing to avoid a Legion who wanted you down.
Old DbD is something I love talkin about btw so if you got anymore questions, go right ahead! :)

"Its fascinating looking back at the release of Legion, the Killer had so much hype surrounding the idea of impersonating survivors in the game, that had technical limitations preventing the idea from becoming a reality"
No one, and I mean no one thought Legion was going to impersonate Survivors. The very first theory that came around was a multi personality killer as one of the teasers we had gotten was this:
A single person looking in a mirror, multiple reflections looking back, with the caption "Within darkness, lies a legion". The only other teaser we had gotten for Chapter 10 was of a snowy resort, which we now know to be Ormond.
Legion impersonating Survivors was an idea that started floating around after the game awards of 2018, specifically because thats when the trailer came out

Seven hot takes... Seven hot takes is all I can spare for you.
- SWF should be removed from the game. It's too strong and breaks the core design of DBD.
- MFT is fine, you're just being outplayed because it highlights skill issue. In fact, it's not good enough to even sniff the meta and it does not require any changes whatsoever. Hyperfocus, Resilience, and Distortion are all infinitely better perks and more meta by comparison. Better than SB? Ha! Don't make me laugh. Crunch all the numbers you want nerds, It is still inferior when it comes to real world gameplay, outclassed by several other perks that aren't even top 10, and really nothing more than the new shiny toy. Its luster will wear off once people see it doesn't live up to the hype. Another overhyped perk the community got wrong like so many others.
- Skull Merchant is the best-designed killer in the game and we need more killers like her
- Dead Hard changes should be reverted so player can gain distance
- The game was much more fun in 2017/2018 and that's not nostalgia
- Comp DBD is still a joke
- Pig's crouch should change her movement speed to 4.4 m/s instead of 3.6 m/s

na it was always 3 tokens. the rework had it where you could unhook to get 1 token.
with 2 tokens, you just run to the hook. take a hit then unhook someone, then get hit again. once you get hooked, you get both BT and MoM. MoM would just be OTR with no drawbacks. that is way too strong shift-w play vs weak killers for anti-tunnel perk.
There was a change that was more recent where it only took 2, in exchange how ever MoM just gave Endurance. What this meant is it was easier to activate, but wouldnt stack with other Endurance perks and would deactivate upon doing a conspicuous action
This version of MoM only saw the light of day for like a patch or 2, and thank god for that

There are several more, aint just for Doc and Blight

I don't know against what survivors you were playing, but I'd suggest you to play something below B tier for a few matches and come back with a feedback.=)
Playing any killer nowadays is more than possible with relative ease thanks to how bad matchmaking has been.
Also both sides can have negative experiences, just sayin

What is wrong with Trickster? Besides the point where is just a less skillfull huntress and does not do any tricks like his name would suggest...
He's either oppressive in some areas (low walls/cover) and basically useless in others. Theres no depth playing as him, or against him. He also has the same issue that OG Legion used to have, in the sense that if a Trickster wants you down, youre going to go down regardless of how good you are.
Coming from an ex Trickster main btw.

Doesn't mean he's not problematic for the LARGE majority of the community, same can be said for Nurse and several other killers

Because for what ever reason people think 1 high prestige = 4 man SWF even though most high prestige Survivors are mid. Last Prestige 100 Survivor I went against that was actually good was a guy (I think hes a streamer) who I went against all the time way back in the day and was sitting at a solid 12k hours. She's a flat line the entire game though. Myers is slow, then tier 3 madness he is a 1 hit machine of death.
She's just the same the entire match and I truly believe the only reason people come on here and scream "NERF NURSE" is because they don't want to have to change their gameplay style. She stops gen rush teams. You camp a gen long enough, she's going to get you. You can't run the same loops, you have to actually outsmart and outplay her. It's an awesome challenge and a nice break from, go to gen, chase survivor, eat pallet, loop, down. Repeat.
Exactly, shes a flat line the entire game but is higher than a good chunk of killers. Wanna know the last killer that was even remotely close to the same? OG Legion.
Its not about Survivors needing to change it up to go against her, its about their one resource given to them being basically useless thanks to a power that is fundamentally flawed and has 0 requirements to activate. The absolute worst part is you can 100% make an argument that Nurse is better than all the "power up" killers when their power is active
Myers - Enough said
Plague - Needs to go out of her way to get her power, can be taken out of her power, fairly map dependent
Oni - Slightly worst mobility with the trade off of an insta down, only killer who could actually stand up to Nurse if he was in power for the entirety of the game, but is limited to a 45 second timer (which becomes shorter when hitting Survivors and dashing)
Trickster - Limited mobility, very map dependant
Nemesis - Great at staying on a Survivor as he is the Relentless Pursuer. Nurse does it better as the ######### is a wall/pallet
Pinhead - Power isnt necessarily controlled by him and offers little in chase, just passive slow down
Dredge - Very map dependant
Singularity - Limited in its usage and has a slow start up
There is no reason for a killer to better than basically all of these killers at their strongest with no activation requirement.

At some point, it's a skill issue.
Distance addons: gone
Recharge reduction addons: gone
Addons in general: gone
You even got her only real way to attack into a special attack ruining every tome challege to hit survivors with your weapon.
All this within the past year or two. Do you even see that many Nurses? I see more people complaining about Wesker.
You dont see Nurses anymore because they made her just as unfun to play as she is to go against
You cant build off of a foundation made of noodles, she needs to be rebuilt from the ground up
-
@Melinko said:
Nurse doesn't need anything.
Every week this is posted because someone ran into a nurse and didn't like the results.
Against nurse you can't sit on gens you have to work and move. You can't loop endlessly and spam pallets, it is a different way of avoiding her with breaking los of trying to outguess her versus just pressing "w" and going left around a pile of stuff.
I honestly think the reason people want her nerfed is because they don't want to learn how to counter her.
Play Nurse. See her limitations and you'll see how to counter her and what you can do to be better against her. Honestly, I wish the devs would give us more killers that can just by-pass loops and make the game different. It's refreshing.
Heres the thing, killers have a sort of power curve as the game progresses. Most of them generally follow the rule of weak at the beginning, but stronger as the game progresses. There are a few exceptions to this how ever, like Singularity or Freddy.
Nurse how ever plays her own game and doesnt get stronger, she is already at her full potential the moment the game starts and that potential is significantly higher than the large majority of the cast. Even Blight who is not far behind her in terms of strength still follows that power curve.

A 4-man on constant comms will always know where to expect you and have a general idea of where you are.

Also most 4 man's aren't comp teams, no matter how much you want them to be
-
@dbdthegame said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3509470#Comment_3509470
They are indeed very strong. Maps are designed around the lowest common denominator, and as such are typically VERY safe. Most maps have enough pallets to predrop every single one and still have enough left over after gens are completed.
This is assuming the killer mindlessly follows one Survivor until they get downed, and in that case I don't know what you were expecting when you give 1 Survivor all the resources available when they're meant to be split up by all 4. Its also why chasing the first Survivor until you down them is probably one of the worst things you can do against a smart team
-
@dbdthegame said:

Because survivors are strictly stronger than killers basekit. 95% of the killer roster NEEDS perks to function. Survivors without perks are very strong.
They are stronger base kit yes, to say they're "very strong" how ever? No. In fact several killers become much more viable when you take perks out of the equation like stealth killers. How ever there's basically no reason to have a debate on this since not only is the game balanced with perks in mind, but the last time I've played a game where both sides both didn't have perks or add ons was... well never. (5.9k hours btw)

I thought the issue was quite clear from the title. Why would someone who plays survivor expect me, a killer main, to play weak killers, if odds are I'll be playing against setups like this quite often, and often times against survivors who aren't trash, and will be getting destroyed left and right?
I mean you're acting as if this is a killer specific issue. You could say the exact same thing for the survivor side: Why would some one who plays killer expect me to use gimmicky perks, items and add ons in Solo Q when all I go up against are strong killers with busted add ons who aren't trash, and will be getting destroyed left and right?
To say you also go against set ups like these constantly and people who aren't trash in today's matchmaking is just a blatant lie. Those who truly believe they go against top caliber Survivors all the time, aren't as good as they think they are.
And before you pull the "Survivor main spotted" trick.. yeah no, I main killer
-
@UnknownKiller said:
So basically you can place one turret then get another and another and another infinitely?
Only 4 can be placed at once, and from what I can tell whether you're being burned by 1 Turret or all 4, you still get out of your power at the same rate
-
So here's what I'm getting from this
They were bringing items indicating that they were there to win and were probably trying their hardest. Upon seeing this you decided to adapt and take a different approach to the match despite being heavily out matched in terms of add ons and the killer you're using. So it was tryhard v tryhard and you just so happen to win because from what I'm getting at you were the better player, and games where both are giving it their all should always have the better player come out on top which is exactly what happened.
So what exactly is the issue here? Yes if they were better they would of probably put up more of a fight, but as you yourself said you could of been playing a higher tier killer which for all they knew, thats what they were going up against. Hell you could of also brought better add ons which actually makes Trapper quite a threat (Even the add ons you have there make Trapper SIGNIFICANTLY better than his basekit.
Unless I'm missing something, can't see how I can be wrong here.

I disagree that comp teams are vastly different. All it takes is the game knowledge to split on gens, aggressively attack them at every opportunity, pre drop every pallet, and have a desire to win like this every game. In some ways, these teams are stronger than comp teams in pubs because they have no perk or map offering restrictions
If you disagree, go do a few scrims then.
-
@B1gMacEnjoyer said:
You only run into those teams in tournaments? I'm sorry, that's just fiction. I play a couple hours of killer a night, and I will run into teams running Made for This, Resilience, etc. and being gen efficient in at least half of them

To be fair, what effort did they put into the first one?
Yes the gens and hooks looked nicer and the Hillbilly weapon was cool, but that's it.
BP gains were less than now because not every gen/hook was a BBQ one unless everyone brought an offering. And you didn't get any additional BP unless you brought the offering.
Only 2 cosmetic pieces, not even full outfits. Kate's was just a recolour of her default shirt as well.
Unlocking the cosmetics was worse because you could only repair/hook on specific gens/hooks to earn the tokens. Killers were camping the BBQ gens to prevent people from getting the rewards and survivors were saboing the BBQ hooks so killers couldn't get them either. You needed to repair 50 summer gens just to get a Kate shirt.
Survivors BP gains were MUCH worse back then.
The event didn't even have a unique lobby.
This event was always meh. It's a small side event, it's not supposed to be anything special. The only thing it had going for it were the pretty gens.
Just a quick correction.. it wasnt 50 generators. It was 80. Killers also needed 40 hooks to get the hammer
Same thing for the Howling Grounds event

If they change her they:
- cant say dbd isnt pay to win, because the best killer isnt free.
- need to buff all other killers, because there is no counter agument against an good swf anymore
- need to put time in something that doesnt earn money
- they need to think about a new power and addons
- they cant deffend they bad map design anymore
They probebly will not change her and to be honest I dont have a problem with her. Its another playstyle to play against.
Id agree with point 2 if you posted this 5 years ago
Game is balanced enough where a good chunk of killers can still hold their own against a group

pretty sure it was a bug , if you look closely that animation wasnt UNIQUE was just the slower version of the chain hit animation of frenzy when putting someone into the dying state and because how PTBs work , there is no waay that it was intentional , going into the frenzy weapon cooldown animation and them the average fatigue animations (double stun) was really weird.
I mean it wasnt the first, nor was it the last of a killer having a double cooldown upon using their power.
Another killer that comes to mind is Blight, who had a special animation to shake off the blood from his cane (which can actually be seen in his spotlight trailer) and then he'd inject the syringe.

they missed 44 knives because your movement was tricky. i think the problem is lack of dopamine hit for dodging each projectile and the fact that the majority of chases the killer does not run out of knives so it just feels like there is lack of counter-play. the problem is that if the killer run out of knives, that would make trickster annoying to play especially with current reloads. it is just like old deathslinger. the psychology of playing vs his ability is really off. I am not sure how you improve that.
As some one who's played his fair share of Trickster, I'd love to see this first hand

you being good as survivor will make other player look bad. it works vice versa as well. you succeeding as killer makes opponent look bad.
Ok but theres a difference between outplaying your opponent and them just missing 44 knives
-
They used to have a unique animation WAY back in 2018 when they were on PTB where they kept their knife close to their face and then slowly moved it out of the way. (was about a 2-3 second animation) After that they would enter fatigue. (This triggered whenever they hit a Survivor who was already affected by Deep Wounds)
Problem is many people complained that it was essentially a double stun for just using your power, and they got rid of that animation entirely when he reached live

from playing survivor, i have made trickster run out of knives. it is not super consistent and it is not exactly easy but it is possible. it is just difficult. I personally think its players not wanting to engage with killer ability so perhaps some change in how trickster's ammo works would help resolve that. I think it is just another perception issue.
So have I, and I've also ran Nurse's for several minutes. Using bad players as an example can make anything look possible

why do you find him unfun to go against?
Because hes sort of in the same boat as old Legion just no where near as extreme in the sense that if a Trickster wants you down, youre more than likely going to go down.
Doesn't help that you know he doesnt even need to be that accurate. All you need is an accuracy of less than 30% to down a Survivor from injured to healthy with a full set of knives (not even considering add ons)
Theres also no real depth to his gameplay, its basically just hold W while putting as many LoS blockers between you and him as you can. And if you cant do that, youre just dead.

Secondly he needs something to deal with loops and not be a downgraded Huntress!
Dealing with loops is not where he falls short, in fact he probably has one of the strongest 1v1's in the game. The real problem lies in map dependency, and being either underpowered or overwhelming depending where you as a Survivor happen to be caught. Also has a problem of being really unfun to go against regardless
