A character being the best doesn’t mean they need a nerf. Bad logic

If you didn't understand my comment you quoted, you don't understand game balance as a whole, not just Dead by Daylight, and that's okay.

This whole thread is a whataboutism. It's literally "If perks get overhauled, whatabout Nurse".

The Perk Overhaul is to correct a long-time stale meta on both sides, killer and survivor. If we're examining stale metas, we're examining Nurse.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3003218#Comment_3003218

As if the perk overhaul is going to magically balance the game. I guarantee it will still be survivor sided

No need to attempt a whataboutism here. My point in creating this post is that if Nurse is still the best killer in the game uncontested after the Perk Overhaul, there's no excuse for her to not receive some changes. I don't really think that's debatable from a game balance perspective of which I'm coming from. She has the lowest kill rate at all levels but she is regarded the best killer by all players in all roles at all levels of the game. That is not good game balance, at all.

  • DbD is such a unique game that it has a constant pool of returning players that take a short break or longer hiatus from the game and eventually come back. The player count is deceiving, it's the biggest celebration of the year for the game. Pay attention to the retainment of that pool for two weeks after the anniversary then decide if the game is on a downward slope.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Maybe if her kill rates sky rocket after the perk overhaul. Right now she has the lowest kill rates so I don't see a reason for changing her. The amount of Nurses in high MMR who dominate every game is probably the same or even less than the number of SWFs who also rarely lose, so I don't see why devs would change her because of a minority group. The data shows most of the playerbase is doing fine against her.

It's the disparity between her kill rate at all levels (lowest in the game) and her overwhelmingly perceived strength (best killer by far) that make her problematic. Nothing to do with SWFs.

  • Zombies are thematic but should be completely removed to give Nemesis space to have his base kit buffed. You can't buff Nemesis whilst his free AI pressure exists. Any buff to Nemesis is magnified by the zombies applying inconsistent but overall strong pressure. Pig was the same way with her add-ons and RNG RBT's inflating her kill rate.

Edit: remove zombies and Nemesis can be comfortablely buffed. Otherwise, enjoy your anti-loop killer plagued by RNG AI.

Noone, including you, has a clue what the perk overhaul is going to look like, so there's no longer an excuse in your mind, sure, but the rest of us are going to wait till patch notes actually break on the matter.

Excuse me, I suppose after Nurse being the best killer for years and largely being unaffected by any add-on or perks changes in the meantime, I'd reckon some meta perks being changed would have no effect on Nurse being regarded by every player, killer or survivor main, as the strongest killer.

This. Enough is enough. At least offer up a fresh take because this is so overplayed.

I did. After the Perk Overhaul, there's no longer an excuse.

When even the best of players can only last on average about 40 seconds with all the tools meant for 4 people at their disposal, yeah theres something wrong. Especially with the perk overhaul coming up shes gonna need a touch down

I don't even think that's the main issue. It's that she has the lowest kill rate at all levels but she is unarguably the best killer, far and away. Any other game would've reworked this character. But she's one of the first main killers and loved by some, hated by others. Reworking her would be a controversial decision.

  • BHVR's reasoning for nerfing Pyramid Head's Rites of Judgement fake into M1 by giving it a cooldown was because they said it was a lose-lose situation for survivors, and they were spot on. Currently, Dredge is the same way. He suffers no downsides for using his power, whatsoever. Giving him hindered movement speed by teleporting back to his husk should be the first change to his kit, and should be implemented in the Mid-Chapter patch.

Ehm just for understanding, why would you put your personal total amount of BP in there in the first place?

Daily rituals and rift challenge bp rewards would ruin any viability of the data for this point.

My thoughts exactly. Having "match total" BP gains affected by Streamers, Anni Cakes, category offerings etc. is seemingly worthless data in any attempt to change or balance BP gains based upon it.

  • My question is if the bloodpoint question is asking for score or total BP gained... I put score for my 7 games.

  • Kinship/Camaraderie should be base-kit. Activates when the killer is close to the hook for an extended, unreasonable amount of time, activating when the killer is near the hook instead of a teammate. Deactivates when all generators are powered.

  • You have no obligation to take it easy on a team with a DC. You also have no obligation to consider how fun, or not fun, the match may be for that team. I've farmed with a team after a DC, and I have also killed the team as quickly as possible so we can all queue into a real match next game.

Just understand that the three players left behind after a DC feel that the match is even more out of their control than it was when they spawned in, and that being strong-armed into an unfun match with a DC and an unrelenting killer is the most unsavory feeling and can easily kill any motivation to play the game.

Isn't this the ENTIRE POINT to the PTB?? Did you guys not try to start the game before releasing this?

This isn't very helpful, just so you know.

  • I think something along the lines of "Nerf Syndrome" needs to be coined. This goes for literally any video game. Something gets nerfed, gamers freak out, and proceed to stop using the nerfed item/perk/character. A short amount of time passes, and people realize the nerf's effectiveness was vastly blown out of proportion...

I had finished a game and when I went to queue up again it told me I needed a patch to access the content. Downloaded the patch and now get that error. Im live on twitch and my friend whos on PC didnt get a patch.

Same. My friend on an Xbox One didn't get the patch either. Series X users are basically version locked out of DbD until other platforms get the 5.2.2 patch. What's worrying is that those patches usually release on Tuesdays at 11 AM est...

  • I think this might be a Series X only issue atm. Not sure why they would deviate from the normal release time for a patch specific to one platform

If you have to make an augment based off of 3rd party software, it's the software messing with the game that's the problem. This would be like me saying some tiles are poorly designed purely because of stretched res.

Okay, but that wasn't my point. He called BS that you can't hear directional cues from survivor breathes. But you can under the right circumstances.

  • For right now, probably a little tinfoil hat behavior lol.

But they have gone on record to say that MMR is not actively affecting matchmaking at the moment, but it is still collecting data for later use in current matches in the meantime.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2374807#Comment_2374807

BS. You have probably played her a few times against green and purple ranks and then decided you can hear every time. I consistently 4k with spirit. You cannot know for sure, especially if they aren’t injured.

Some headphones and software (Dolby Atmos for myself) amplify directional and surround sound audio. Depending on where you are standing while phasing, you can in fact hear directional audio through one side, in this case the survivor breathing. Doesn't work for everyone because you really do need the specs and software to do it.

  • A friend of mine whom I gameshare with bought it and mostly played killer. Got on to try it out and play KYF with a group of friends around mid-2019 and wasn't impressed, and didn't play it again for about a year later until someone convinced me to give it a real shot during the 4th year anniversary.

A year later, it has become my main game that I still have so much fun on, through both the ups and downs.

I never used Stridor on Spirit on serious matches, never used it on actual killer builds either, still 4 Killing every day, can't see any reason to complain about a nerf on such a meaningless perk...

I'm not complaining about Stridor. It really only sees usage on Spirit. Like I said, this is a band-aid nerf to take away one of her most powerful tools when she is far too problematic in her own right with or without it.

  • I think some killers would rather prioritize chases and hooks over generator defense, so BW gives them a powerful late game tool to secure the last few hook states in a game where generator defense was an afterthought in the first place.

  • Killers already get more consistent BP gains by a substantial margin... You guys want more BP for killers...?

  • Nurse, Spirit, and Huntress. You're only playing these killers for one reason, and it's to 4K. Nothing more, nothing less.

New survivor experience is great, what are you talking about? Wouldn't you want to face NOED Wraiths and Doctors all day? (Low rank huntress is fine. They can't aim.)

At least when facing Wraith as a new survivor your games are quick since once you get hooked you only have about ~2 minutes in the game left anyway.

I've tried to get a few friends into DbD. It's all fun and games until they angrily ask me why they got insta-downed when the last gen was powered lol... At least for the new players I've tried to introduce, NOED is their biggest gripe. Such a hindrance to the new survivor/player experience, even though it's aimed for the new killer experience.

  • New killers understand that they lost the game because of inexperience, poor perks, or lack of familiarity with the killer they're playing. They know the steps they need to take to take control of the game. If they're getting teabagged or click spammed, they can at least equip NOED or something.

New survivors can feel almost powerless against killers that know what they're doing or ones that have good perks. If they aren't watching content creators or playing with friends to teach them or learn vicariously by watching good gameplay, they are destined to suffer until they get good enough to shoulder their 25% of the trial's burden.

I hear a lot of Nurse complaints and people wanting her to be changed. Personally I never had to many issues with Nurse. But, that got me thinking is there anything to really change that wouldn't end her. Has she reached the point where she can't be changed further? Unlike Spirit who can still receive nerfs and be a strong killer. I can't see any further nerfs for Nurse that wouldn't ruin her. So if you have a miracle change please post it.

I don't think she's unchangeable at all. She's been around for years and people have invested lots of time into her, so the idea of tweaking or toning her frustrates people, understandably so. Her placement on tier lists and her usage in competitive play don't help either.

If Nurse was ever going to get changed, it's going to target her floor and ceiling. She has the lowest kill rate, so newer players need to have more control, while still keeping the rewarding skill curve intact. While she does have the lowest kill rate, she is almost unanimously considered the best killer in the game by far, simply because of how infinite her ceiling is depending on the player's skill. So a change would have a clear direction in its target.

Slander this idea all you want, but I don't see any suggestions or ideas, so I'll share my own.

Nurse's movement speed should be slightly increased. Her base speed of 3.85 m/s could be upped to around 3.95 or 4.0 m/s. This allows players to chase as an alternative to blinking, if they so choose. For newer players to Nurse, this would help a lot. Would it really lower the skill floor and help her kill rate? Not sure.

In exchange for some base speed, her maximum blink range and blink recharge speed at base could be toned down. Fatigue can stay the same. Toning down blink range and recharge speed effectively lowers her ceiling because she can't perform the same plays as before.

Why tone blink range and recharge speed? Aside from reduced fatigue from blinks, extra blink range and recharge speed addons such as Kavanagh's Last Breath and Fragile Wheeze easily see the most usage compared to her other addons. It's a change in the same vein of how Trickster's Melodious Murder got reworked, because it was the most sought after stat to buff through addons and saw significant usage compared to his other addons.

With more speed in chase, Nurse can hold blinks to use them more tactically, rather than relying on blinks for both movement in chase and hits. This eases the mechanical demands put on new players on Nurse, and should be lowering her high skill floor.

With reduced blink range and recharge speed, Nurse is not capable of applying the same map and chase pressure as before. This should lower her skill ceiling. Keep in mind that I wouldn't want any addons changed with these changes, so if you still want to tremendously increase max blink range or considerably reduce blink token recharge time, knock yourself out.

I would be very interested to see this Nurse in the hands of veteran players, as well as new Nurse players to see if the changes are healthy and help make her a bit more balanced across the board.

  • I have every killer adept except for Nemesis. It should stay as merciless killer, but you shouldn't have to 2 pip.

If getting adept is only a 4K, you already know how it's going to go with tunneling, camping, etc. It would be a boring match that demonstrates little to no mastery of the killer you're playing.

Forcing a killer to play for around 10-12 hooks to get into merciless killer territory truly makes you earn the achievement.

Try solo queueing at red ranks vs rank 1 killers. Countless games where someone is tunneled out early, and the snowball begins...

No it's not because they nerfed RUIN (based on high level play) because noobs couldn't overcome it. Nurse was also nerfed (based on extremely high level play) while also locking out noobs from learning her.

Ruin was NERFED (survivor buff) based on CASUALS not being able to git gud and Nurse was NERFED based around the top .01% of play.

I honestly have no idea what you're getting at. I was interested in talking about whether Nurse is balanced properly.

If you want to talk about Ruin so much, you should at least admit it is much more balanced now after its rework, not nerf...

  • Buffing Pig is a slippery slope.

Her RNG RBTs skew her kill rate and make her appear much stronger statistically than she really is.

I would love for Pig to be buffed, but to buff her by making Ambush stronger, you must first address her RBTs, Jigsaw Boxes, and addons that give you more of them, like Last Will.

Incorrect. I'm following the logic here. Here are the stats as they released a while back:

    https://static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/DBD-Red-ranks.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=740&dpr=1.5

Since these stats were released, the following major changes have happened: Freddy and Billy have been nerfed, Demo, Wraith and clown were buffed. It stands to reason that somewhere between billy and wraith is what they consider to be "balanced" But looking at this nurse is statistically BY FAR the worst killer.

If we are balancing the game around the average players, she needs to be buffed.

I'm curious about your interpretation of game and character balance.

If Nurse has the lowest kill rate, but is the best killer when played at the highest level, is that balanced?

In her current state, going off of the statistics, is she balanced?

    @Reinami

  • @thrawn3054 said:

Nobody is asking for a Nurse nerf. She has counter play. Not so much against a God Nurse, but then you simply got out played.

As for Spirit, I'd say most people don't want a nerf. At least not exactly. Rather they want some indication she's phasing so she has meaningful counterplay.

This is well said. You're spot on about Spirit.

I don't know about Nurse. The last thing she needs is a nerf that makes the killer with the lowest win rate worse. I just wish she was balanced a bit better.

  • Common and Uncommon mystery boxes (brown and yellow) found in bloodwebs have a chance to drop an event cake.

Try to prioritize these when you're spending BP a little bit more than usual.

  • Killers are not OP. At the top end, maybe oppressive, but certainly not OP.

The issue is that if you have good game sense and experience, you probably win more than 75% of your games. Maybe even more.

With a lot of playing time as killer or survivor, killer is honestly a little too easy if you're running good perks and good add-ons.

  • P2P skins are not overpriced, simply because of how flexible they are. Other games have skins in rollable chests, lootboxes, crates, etc. The fact that you can choose a skin and buy it whenever you want makes it worth the price tag. Not to mention you can mix and match certain non-set outfits and pieces.

DbD's skin prices could be much, much worse, by direct price tag or delivery.
