They nerfed Distorition but Buffed the killer's aura reading on some perks. I am so frustrated with it. Gen Jockey's can't use it anymore… and they are the ones that need it most. Maybe they can compromise and make it so that the perk only has 1 token and refills in the terror radius.
No, the passive refilling by simply being in the terror radius was what was wrong with it in the first place, combined with too many tokens. It's a far too powerful effect to simply regain it passively, you should have to earn it. If killer perks have to be conditional then so can survivors be.

I've noticed since the 2v8 mode first dropped the bonuses has been much lower than usual for both sides. I've only seen %25 or %50 for either role.
Ive literally not ONCE had a killer queue incentive since 2v8 came out in normal evening prime time hours. I feel like its been bugged or intentionally set on survivor ever since then. As if its inclusion in the game could get any worse.
-
Yep, it was consistently 100% survivor during the day and 100% killer in the evenings but ever since 2v8 came out incentives are either non existant or survivor only. Ive not had a killer incentive since and its pretty much killed my motivation to play the game at all as its not worth using any good addons or offerings knowing im not going to get enough BP to get them back at a somewhat decent pace while grinding prestiges.

The devs target a >60% kill rate; the game is killer sided by design.
@Rogue11 said:

60% kill rates are unfair, and have led directly to survivors giving up early in matches. Because most of the time, a single mistake early in the match results in a 3-4k at 2-3 gens. Shrunken maps with nothing to loop limit any ability to prevent being tunneled or have a good chase to enable the team to regain momentum. This leads to survivors feeling like they have no agency in the outcome of the match, and they are mostly correct.
A 60% kill rate is NOT a 60% win rate, it would average out to something like 2.5 kills, meaning draws are just as common as a 3k win. You're not even considering what the percentage actually means in game terms and instead using an "out of 100%" mindset which is inherently wrong and interpreting the data wrong. There's too many player factors to translate it to a direct win rate (hook suicide, friendly killers etc etc). Remember the game is asymetical, there arent even teams for judging a straight 50/50 balance.
This assumes players can actually play competently against each other and not survivors being blatently bad or doing dumb things which get them killed and snowball the game (which is often the case) because balancing for variable player skill is impossible.
BHVR: "The kill rate is an average, not a guarantee. You might kill 4 survivors one match and 0 the next, but that'll still average out to 50%"

Just had a game with a 3 man out (basement with NOED) and she didnt get a single claw trap off the entire game. One other person got scanned once because they body blocked for me but they chased me the entire trial and even i only got scanned twice after two hook states.
She's literally worse than trapper lol

Same here, 150% on survivor, but survivor queues were long and killer queues instant. Man I wish they would fix this already. In theory they're actually making their own queue times worse by pushing people to play the side that already has too many players. I miss having 100% bonus, especially on killer.
I miss having 100% bonus, especially on killer.
Literally not had a single killer bonus since 2v8 came out. It's kinda just demoralised me from playing much anymore tbh since i dont enjoy survivor much. Prior to that i was getting consistent 100% every evening so i could enjoy the game while still getting reasonable progression for my killer prestiges. Now i might as well wait until BP events to play.
-
No there is no slugging problem. The constant rage posting about it really doesn't reflect any normal games for anyone nor the state of the game overall. It really feels like people are massively exaggerating it at every opportunity to push a narrative for yet more survivor sided changes (seeing as discussion is always dominated by those players).

Thats the thing I always wonder with this kinds of vindicative posts.
I once had a phase were I was always super angry at the survivors and how they could apparently effortlessly dance around me and at one point I ragequitted so much that I racked up a 1h timeout, which helped to clear out my head. Then, during my next match, I had a legitimate DC and when I reconnected I had a 6h timeout. Of course I was frustrated at that point … but it was also 100% clear that this was my own failing. If I had never rage quitted, I would have had just a 1min timeout, it only got to 6h, because I had an anger problem.
But this was very effective, since then I have never seen anything higher then a 5min timeout. Being punished for a legitimate connection spike feels bad .. but if you DCed a veritable amount beforehand, well, then you got no one to blame but yourself.
You summed it up really well tbh, its essentially a mentality problem for players and their own faults. But instead of reflecting on themselves like you did they continue to throw out vindictive posts and arguments over whatever the topic is and blame others. FAR too many people have an unhealthy relationship with this game, and unfortunately they seem to be the most vocal.
-
10 BP bonuses and a minimum 400% survivor bonus is the only way you'll get me to play this game when this awful mode comes back, its simply not worth being forced off killer (cant play ones i want anyway) for anything less. I'll go do other things with my time otherwise.

Playing properly?
They targeted camping and holding games hostage with a 3 gen. Camping is just staring at furniture and is barely considered "playing" since you can basically do that afk, and holding a 3 gen until the match closed is against game rules, so isn't "proper" in any way.
If its within the game rules its playing properly, you can try and deny it all you want but its fact. Them reducing its effectiveness doesn't mean its not proper gameplay, what a silly thing to suggest, it was just disproportionately effective and needed adjusting. You're not even addressing my points.

I expect killer players to learn how to play their character properly. Why should bad players be compensated with buffs?
Ironic when its survivors constantly compensated for playing badly, while killers are actively punished by game mechanics for playing "properly". As usual its a rule for ye and not for me mentality. Going by your own logic i guess we can remove all your buffs and second chance perks and demand you play properly and learn to play without hand holding? Seems only fair.

It really is ridiculous, im constantly running into survivors using stypics for endurance in chases the most, and its just beyond obnoxious atm. Especially because gens will fly fast unless the killer is lucky to get slowdowns and these players know it,

The people who make solo q "miserable" are survivors, mostly those whining about it being "miserable", those with terrible mentalities that shouldnt be playing the game and the actively bad players who refuse to learn.

I myself am mostly a killer player (Trapper, Knight) but I see what a problem there is in slugging. The only answers to it are forcing surv to reserve a perk slot for unbreakable or counting on teammates.Which can create frustration
DBD needs changes but for both sides.
For example why not group killers. (M1, mobility, range, special)Then you could give passives to each of the groups (M1 killers have built-in corrupt intervention)
My change only makes sense if it was part of a bigger change. In my opinion the entire knockdown mechanic needs changes. What if after knocking down surv was stunned for 10 seconds. He can't move or try to get up on his own.
Making use of perks and relying on teammates is literally the point of the game. You aren't entitled to having a counter to everything by default.

Don't get attached, its meant to discourage you from playing her until later. That's a load of hopium tbh. The devs have a terrible track record for reworks. I highly doubt much will change in any meaningful way if they ever get around to the "rework" at all. If they touch a killer in any significant way its always bad for them.

"But now i will have to use four perk slots to do what originally used one perk slot"
And you don't see the problem with one perk being worth 4 perk slots in value? Distortion was clearly massively overtuned. It was FAR too good for how easy tokens were to regenerate.
-
If their intention is to make her unplayable until further notice then they should give us an option to refund all in-game and auric cell currecy used on her so we can redistrbute it. No one loses anything that way.
-
It's a chase utility perk now, not a "hide all game and never interact with the killer perk", which was horrifically unhealthy for the game. You have to take chase now, and interact with the killer like you're supposed too for the team.
-
If their intention is not wanting us to play her while we wait for her failure of a rework that will ultimately change nothing anyway then they should be refunding all in-game and auric cell currency everyone has spent on her so we can use them on characters that are actually meant to be playable. The precedent this sets is dangerous going forward and i will no longer risk wasting any more money on any character, it's simply not worth it if this is how they are going to treat paying customers, and let appeasing people who clearly shouldn't be playing the game dictate "balancing"

Her power is bloated, a tiny crack is not the problem though. A responsible dev can't sit and allow a majority of their playerbase to play against a problem. They already made a terrible disservice allowing her to be a problem for soooooo long.
People sure do love to spout they are a "majority" with absolutely zero proof of it. People bothering to post on forums are already a minority in any game. A responsible dev wouldn't maliciously nerf something into oblivion to appease whiners, especially without a concrete plan to work on and detailed updates for users, but here we are. SM is a low pick killer, you will barely ever see her. Ive gone against her twice in 800 hours of survivor gameplay.
The terrible disservice that's being done is the overly malicious act being done to people who enjoy playing her to appease the worst of the playerbase. There won't be a rework worth anything, BHVR have proven their track record here, this is her state now, and they should be offering refunds of all in-game and auric cell currency people have spent on her.
-
The drones were fine, survivors were meant to be punished for lack of awareness and attentiveness, thats a skill issue not a power issue. The haste is what made her chase viable, the hindered effect barely came into play. Reducing the haste effect and hindered effect as a stop gap measure until later, sure, removing haste entirely was a terrible choice that kills her chase, which is already bad as an m1 killer.
-
@francesinhalover said:
removing her speed boost was enough.
Her haste is what made her chase viable at all, the hindered effect barely comes into play. She's now an M1 killer with no real chase ability and a rubbish power.

@Grigerbest said:
Just test her out on PTB and make sure to leave a feedback for the developers. This is what PTB for.
This "panic" is unnecessary. Test her out and make sure to communicate.
You don't need to test anything to see how garbage she is going to be nuking basically everything she has. None of these changes address anything, they just dumpster her for no reason. Her map control will be in the ground, her power is almost worthless being half as effective before you even factor in the survivor themselves, she has no chase potential anymore either. The hinder barely comes into play, the haste is what makes her chase even remotely viable, and she wasnt even that good of a killer to begin with.
The problem was never her in her current state, the problem is lack of information and knowledge of her power and people refusing to adapt and learn like it always is. It's like they took a survivor biased nerf wishlist off reddit and pushed it to the PTB. Malicious nerfing to pander to certain type of players is the worst thing a dev team can do.

That's exactly what it is, It's pandering, the worst thing any dev team can do. The fact these change even made it into a PTB is actually insane.
-
Agreed, the precedent this sets is horrific. If whining and crying about something will result into it getting nerfed into the ground then BHVR needs to offer every in-game currency (including auric cells) spent back to people so they can redistribute it. This isnt how any devs should make changes. This is just blatant pandering to "feedback" from a certain type of player, and quite frankly i dont really want to continue to support a team that does that.
If they have no clear intent on what they want to change then DO NOT change anything so people who currently enjoy the character arent screwed out of their enjoyment. NONE of these changes actually address anything, they just straight up stripped her down to nothing. She's a low pick rate character and is barely seen enough to warrant being touched at all let alone massacred like this. I have seen her twice in 800 hours, she is not a problem that needs solving like this.

The only reason camping, tunneling, and slugging are done is because the crap players who use such tactics aren't punished for it. That's it. BHVR endorses these strategies, and doesn't give two craps about the survivor experience. They make more money off of killers, so they only care about whether the killers are having fun, rather than the game being fun for everyone.
How are you this ignorant of how the game plays for killers and how its designed that you feel the need to blame players? There's little to no benefit to spreading hooks, it is a net detriment to a killers gameplay most of the time, now more than ever with constant nerfs to regression games are too fast with too many chase extenders to waste time purposefully spreading hooks. Removing survivors from the game is both your objective and the best pressure you can apply as a killer.
Just because you aren't having fun doesnt mean the many arent.

Probably buffing solo Q survivor to a playable state
At a certain point people just need to "git gud" otherwise you end up in a buffing war to regain balance. Getting matched with good players is a night and day difference as it is right now. FAR too many survivors just waste time doing nothing, dont go gens, dont learn maps, how to loop, overly rely on second chance perks. etc etc etc. You can't buff your way out of bad gameplay.
There's already tons of proof survivors have the tools they need to compete IF they know how to use them. Buffing at base means making those good players just that more oppressive.

This is MOSTLY the devs' fault. BHVR should be encouraging build variety, playstyle variety, and killer variety. Instead, they're doing the exact opposite.
You want to use a hit and run playstyle (the healthiest and most fun playstyle a killer can have, for both sides)? It's literally weakened every patch and actively discouraged by the devs. You are punished as a killer for playing this way.
You want to run a more varied but still useful build? Too bad, there are only two good gen regression perks in the game. And not only did they get nerfed (alongside the other four that were useful), but BHVR also keeps ignoring the weaker ones, so you either run those or might as well not run anything at all.
You want to play a killer that isn't Blight, Billy, or Spirit? Tough luck, because if you dare to do so and face a competent team playing to win, you WILL lose. On top of that, you have to run the sweatiest builds possible on weaker killers because they simply don't work otherwise. If you try a fun, meme build, you don't even get to use it because the game is over in 8 minutes.
This is the game the devs have created and continue to foster, and what does the community do? "Huh, these toxic killer mains do nothing but tunnel!" when the actual problem is BHVR and how all they need to do to keep the community playing is grabbing a new collab (even if the gameplay from it sucks, like Dracula being weak as hell and having CHEST PERKS LOL).
Also, I firmly believe that all these "camping and tunneling" whiny posts would be completely resolved if people actually played the other side for once. I guarantee that if you spent some of your DBD time playing and learning killer, you’d better understand the real issues with this game.
All of this 100%, especially the last part. Its very obvious alot of people whining don't play killer, or do so rarely and never actually match against somewhat competent players where all the glaring problems that killers now have due bad choices to restrict gameplay come to light.
-
As long as the game can potentially end you aren't being held hostage. That only applies if they can keep the game going indefinitely. Slugging you isnt holding you hostage. If someone if up they can do gens, if people are bleeding out they die in 4mins, both can advance the match state.
-
No it doesn't need punishing, there needs to be incentives to spread hooks and pressure and reward killers for it. Denying a gameplay choice is a bad choice. Would you like your survivor options removed?
@upsideinsanity said:
I second the OP. The amount of camping/tunneling over the past week has been absolutely nuts and now I am coming across more killers running knockout and slugging everyone until they bleed out.
It's a game people! While a lot of people want the "I win" you can still win without making the game unplayable for the other side.
Hooking is getting less and less worth it every change they make. Slugging everyone is legitimately just as valid as hooking now. You dont waste time getting them hooked, you dont risk them getting saved by blinds, you deny them their second chance hook perks.

Because survivors call anything and everything tunneling. I know because I've had friends, haven't even been hooked yet cry, "he's tunneling me." But because the devs take all of these alleged reports of tunneling seriously, there's anti-tunnel out the wazoo in the game, and it hurts killers who aren't even tunneling. It's an absolute power fantasy for the survivors, even though they'll claim the opposite.
This is 100% true, people legitimately dont understand what they are moaning about.

The problem lies in the fact that we’ve created a situation where we’ve punished killers for playing strategically in every other aspect and the average killer is compensating for all of the handicaps by tunneling.
The mentality has been that this game should be the survivors doing gens while the killer stands by and watches them. When you read through some of the things on this forum, I truly believe there are people who absolutely believe that is exactly how the game should be. Anything that prevents them from having a cakewalk is too OP and MUST be nerfed. Okay well we’ve gotten there and this is the result.
You don’t want the killer to be able to hold a three gen when survivors don’t pop strategically? Done.
You don’t want slowdowns to hinder your gen progress? Done.
Now you don’t want the killer to chase you? Or better yet you want killers to throw games by not strategically chasing people to eliminate them from the game. Allow all four survivors to remain in the game as long as possible so that they can pop generators. When right now the only actual way to prevent generators from being popped, is to eliminate the number of people working on them.
Also, this is not geared at the OP but rather the community in general. The OP understands both ends. As do I, I find it incredibly frustrating to deal with the increased tunneling, but I know how and why we’ve arrived here. And until we are willing to stop, pretending that we as survivors didn’t create this, then I don’t see a solution in sight.
Exactly this. Killer gameplay choices and build variety have been eroded to the point you'll see the same killers often, same perks, same forced tactics and strategies because nothing else is as viable unless you want a harder timer for no reason. Meanwhile the game actively covers for terrible survivor gameplay and rewards them for it. Slowdown and regression perks are still the best perks to take even after nerfs because there's nothing else really worth the perk slots except a few staples and niche picks, that or aura reading (which gets countered by the insane amount of distortion use anyway so unless you go all in you're back to slowdown perks)
Want to stop excessive camping and tunneling? Incentivize and reward killers for not doing it, punishing isnt the way to go because it just means you double down on it. Even then, making the game a 3v1 lets killers not sweat and makes the game more enjoyable for most of them.

Fun fact, it is ruled in the terms of service, that we all sign without reading, that they can strip your right to play their game permanently at any point.
Games without hard copy like CD, DVD or Blu-ray are borrowed.
It is ridiculous but sadly reality that everything we "buy" on steam is borrowed.
We pay for the ability to play a game, not own it. That is mostly history with "games as a service".
Hate to break it to you, but you don't own games on a physical medium either. You still bought a license, its just attached to a disk instead, you own the physical disk (aka the license), not what's on it. No one has ever actually owned any game ever, they have always been licenses to borrow and use other people's Intellectual Property.
-
EAC update blocks it atm. Dunno if its getting fixed or not but it should be whitelisted as its a supported game for the feature.

No we don't, this will just lead to unhealthy gameplay, they already took steps to stop that sort of thing with stopping hook deadzones. You'd just be punishing a killer for:
- Doing their objective, which is silly
- Trying to hook strategically therefore creating a possible deadzone in the area they hooked.
While rewarding survivors (yet again) for bad gameplay. Don't go for unsafe hooks while the killer isnt occupied with something else unless absolutely necessary and you're okay with trading hook states.

What is the point of that? If they dont want to play and their DC penalty is already too high they will just go AFK. Your "punishment" is not going to change anyone and make them suddenly realize how wrong they are, in fact it will probably do the opposite and just make them feel more justified and more likely to throw future games.
Choosing to do a reportable action (AFKING) seems like a really stupid idea to me. But hey if they'd rather get reported than just leave or play the game they signed up for that's their choice. Hopefully they just end up banned and they can't grief people anymore. If you leave enough to build up the matchmaking penalty you clearly shouldn't be playing the game in the first place.

if I’m going against a 4 gen slow, 3 gen patrolling Skull Merchant, NOTHING is keeping me in that match. I WILL just boot up another game and alternate between looking to see if I was hooked and killed and go back to my other game if I don’t.
The miserable matches aren’t worth playing, and I also refuse to give the killer player with that nasty build, awful to play against killer AND playstyle any form of fun for themselves either. I’m good.
Nothing about removing ways to get out of miserable matches faster will stop anybody from not participating. It just makes it worse for everybody involved, including the killer who will receive nonstop bird notifications until they hook me.The actual fix is make matches not so miserable to play, especially for survivors, since there’s 4 people to consider over 1. “Greater good” quote and all that to support that comment. Do what helps the many, and if you can, THEN help the few. Killers control their play style and whether they want to be a tunnel sweat or try to play more fairly.
"I don't like these perks and this killer" isnt a game problem, its a player mentality problem as you are demonstrating here. You think killers like going up against all the abusive things survivors can do? They dont get an easy way out. You can't fix personal problems by trying to force changing the game. I don't think anyone knows what you mean tbh. Why would anyone ask for the game to be worse for themselves?
Killers are going to ask for more punitive action because its the only realistic option there is. Changing and balancing game mechanics on the whims of people who clearly dont want to play the game and quit for literally the most pettiest of reasons is a silly idea.
The post above by fussy pretty much sums it up perfectly. Its a survivor attitude problem.

Because it’s largely killer mains who suggest BHVR address survivor grievances are through punitive measures. Survivors don’t typically ask that BHVR makes the game worse for them.
That's just not true at all, survivors LITERALLY CONSTANTLY ask for the game to be worse for killers… stop making it a war between sides, there's obvious bias from you.
We also know BHVR arent going to massively change the base game mechanics around how hooks work to stop people suiciding, so there's really nothing else realistic to suggest except more punitive action and a change to whats considered a bannable offense in the hopes that the deterrent is enough to stop it. It only becomes a problem for the people who really shouldnt be playing the game at all if they can't see a match to completion.

By your own logic, then im sure you're okay with survivors having their auras revealed constantly while they are in chase. It's only fair! You lose nothing! Visual and hearing impaired killers need this aid! It totally won't be used by everyone else for advantage or anything… /s
From here I understand that you do not read carefully before responding.
Want to see survivors during chase? There are dozens of perks to do that for you.But here I am talking about one killer you need headsets to play against while the rest don't! A killer who doesn't care about those who are hard of hearing or deaf.
Why do you want to keep the killer as it is while the problem has been solved in another version?!
Your argument is that the mobile version is for quick play or to pass the time, and here is a contradiction in your argument. All versions have the same gameplay, the same characters, and the same rules, so anyone who plays the game will know that it is a game that most likely will not end in 5 minutes.
This game requires time from you. If a person wants to pass the time or play quickly, there are hundreds of games that do that.
So back to the killer spirit whose problem has been solved in the mobile version and no one complained and that's all I ask for.
Maybe I will change the title of the post and some of its content because many people did not understand the idea.
Nope i can read just fine.
"Want to see survivors during chase? There are dozens of perks to do that for you."
You want to hear the game better? Use a headset, thats what they are there for.
THE WHOLE GAME hinges on having good sound in alot of ways, if you're not using headphones you're literally CHOOSING to have a natural disadvantage. But thats your problem.
"So back to the killer spirit whose problem has been solved in the mobile version and no one complained and that's all I ask for."
- Its a mobile game, no one really cares in the first place and spirits power ISNT a core mechanic like terror radius.
- Again.. game is designed to have additional aids because you arent expected to be using headphones and have good sound quality on a mobile game playing on your phone. Its a solution for a MOBILE ONLY problem.
Just go play mobile if you want these aids in your game.
