  • It's frigging ridiculous. How in the world has this game has existed for more than three years without them even adequately dealing with serial disconnecters and the frustration that they cause? I don't think I've played a single game this evening that didn't have at least one DC.

  • @SleepyWillo said:

If two equally skilled teams compete the 2 kills and 2 escapes is the goal. It's not that they want every game to be like that, and in fact most don't. If every second game was a 4k or 4 escape that would also average the same. The point of the goal is that one side isn't consistently dominating over the other.

This. It's the same approximate balance target as any other competitive video game. If you play Street Fighter versus an equally skilled opponent, you should ideally each win half the time. The equally skilled part is the thing that most people fail to grasp, along with the fact that games need balance targets in order to function.

  • Haha "status."

    It is a video game.

  • Also, it would be completely backwards of them to say anything about PTB dates before they actually unveil the new chapter's content. Obviously, there's going to be a PTB with these changes on it.

  • Also, my Steam profile is set to private for work-related reasons, so you'd just have to trust that I have 1400 game hours anyway.

  • So you want this information to use as a gatekeeping aid?

  • People also don't seem to get that Behaviour is basing the "Spirit is overperforming" statement on quantifiable data that they can see and review. These anecdotal "X is overperforming" threads aren't helpful in any way.

  • How is Gideon Meat Plant not more hated? It's awful. Two floors make it hard to navigate, and set off a bunch of false positives for Spine Chill and general terror radius stuff.

Also, for the life of me, I've been playing this game for a year and I still do not understand how to reliably locate generators on the bottom floor. There are no easy "tells" a la the double-doors on the top floor, or flickering lights outside houses on Haddonfield. I really hate this map.

  • You should Google your TV model #. Chances are, someone has made detailed calibration guides for your model, for stuff like gaming, general TV watching, sports/live events, etc. It's really hard to offer any specific advice in a place like this, because there's no one-size-fits-all solution for every television model.

I’ve been all over bond lately, spine chill I’ve bounced in and out using. I really like having one exhaustion perk and if I don’t use DS I feel naked

I've gotten used to not having an exhaustion perk in my loadout. But I've also been having a lot of success with Balanced Landing lately!

    Well then thats not far.

I didn't get the chance to earn them, so I deserve them just as much as everyone that did earn them.

Oh my god, get over it, it is a cosmetic item in a video game. It doesn't matter and has literally no bearing on anything in anyone's lives. You're acting like it's the most important thing ever.

  • Spine Chill and Bond are never the wrong choice!

yea because i didn't had any chance to get em

and few people still can't ignore what their items lost value

least i think chance to make some new legacy not old one

    My question was rhetorical.

  • So... more exclusive things in exchange for the exclusive things not being exclusive?

  • I honestly never even knew that she had no survivor-side vault animation until the other day, and I've been playing this game for a year.

I don't think it matters much. Vaulting as a killer is almost always a bad idea anyway.

  • This thread is getting a little mean-spirited now.

But @Sentient_Locker's point about this unhealthy "covet thy neighbor's goods" worldview is worth thinking about. You should not be any less satisfied with your cosmetic items than you were yesterday, just because you know more people are going to have them.

And no one "earned" these cosmetics. They weren't toiling away at a job in exchange for them. They walked up to a person at a booth at Comic-Con or wherever, and that person handed them a card with a code on it. These are not currency. And I stand by my earlier comment about how this skewed attitude in many fandoms is really unhealthy.

Value is subjective by definition. Your subjective definition is no more valid than theirs.

That's effectively what I just said -- they're only worth what you attach to them. That's totally subjective, we agree on this completely.

What I pointed out in my last post, though, is that Behaviour has every right to tamp down on the excessive prices in the secondhand market, and head off some of the scams that are happening. A narrow minority of players who are super-attached to these items, and associate them with some special significance (which is just as subjective), shouldn't be a roadblock to that.

...But they didn't. The only thing they did was make MOST exclusives worthless. Hype Nea, legacy accounts, and Bloodletting are still being sold for exorbitant amounts of money. If they consistently got rid of every exclusive I would not care. They only thing they did is make my specific exclusives worthless while making the remaining ones much more expensive. And that's not even considering that they are still making new exclusives for fog whisperers and giving out twitch shirts. If their values where "No exclusives" they would distribute these to everyone. If anything they made this game more elitist.

They aren't worth anything, beyond what you attach to them.

In terms of expensiveness, if you're talking about what some of these things go for on eBay, it's out of control, and I absolutely don't think it's out of line for Behaviour to want to tamp down on that. At best, the secondhand market is preying on extremely artificial rarity, and at worst, people are getting scammed in ways that Behaviour can't control. If you're looking at this from a dollars-and-cents perspective, I think you are on the wrong side of it, because I think it is absolutely in Behaviour's interests to put a stop to it.

  • @Skorpan said:

The argument has a thorough standpoint, I can see that. And as my argument may not be much there's most certanly a lot of people who stand on my side.

Why else would the whole general discussions page be full of people talking against this.

People have laid down precious hour of their life on these cosmetics, showing their true dedication. They just like me want to feel special about something.

Almost every game has exclusive in some way, and these cosmetics was a way for this specific community to show their dedication.

It is only a cosmetic, a virtual clothing on a virtual character. But some, some see these as rewards, rewards for having succeded in some way.

As you mentioned earlier ""reward human hours spent." This is a flimsy position".

In my eyes, this is a games true purpose, to reward you for the time you've spent in it.

Is there any specific part of this argument you find "flimsy" or do you think the whole thing is just a big piece of nonsense?

This quote of yours here: "People have laid down precious hour of their life on these cosmetics, showing their true dedication. They just like me want to feel special about something."

This hits the nail on the head of a point I made in a different cosmetic complaint thread: These cosmetics are not a reason to feel special. It is important to learn, just as a human being overall, to step out of the idea of "I must show my TRUE dedication and own all the things." This is a trap, and I believe it's a real danger that exists in any kind of collector culture or fandom. You don't have to own all the things, or know all the things, or whatever in order to be a "true" fan of this game, or of anything else. Anyone who says you do, or would look down on your for not owning this or that, is just a toxic gatekeeper.

I'm a big Halloween fan. I love the movies. I've loved the franchise since I was a kid in the '80s, (even the really bad ones like Halloween 6). I know an uncharacteristically large amount of trivia, especially about the first movie, than any normal person does. But I don't own a ton of Halloween merch. My house isn't covered in Michael Myers masks. I don't have to "prove" my fandom; it's enough to like the thing I like. And if I lorded all the things I know over someone who is a newer or less-passionate fan, as though they're not "fan" enough for me, I'd be a real jerk for doing that, wouldn't I?

Sorry if I rambled too much. I think it's just important to put this into the perspective of how much this all matters as a reflection of you as a person or as a fan of this game, and the answer is ultimately... it really doesn't.

Good for you! You sound like a real swell lad. Thanks for the input. Unfortunately some people enjoy having exclusive things so you can stop speaking for everyone.

I mean, we're going to have to agree to disagree, I guess. Decisions in favor of this mindset are just not normal or healthy, and they encourage a strange set of value propositions for the game, which we are now seeing play out on the forums. I dunno what else to say.

Respect to Behaviour for ripping off this band-aid, though. In the long term, this was the right choice, and it probably should have come sooner.

You don't understand. What's the point of events in dbd now if these skins are in the store? I don't even have to participate in events because I can buy every skin. I think the better idea would be if the skins from events would be exclusive just like it was for example with David's jacket. That's my award for spending my time to get that jacket. And now people are going to get it for free just like that.

Well, I mean, they won't get the item "just like that" they'll have to buy it.

And, the point of events is to have a little something new or different for you to enjoy as part of the game. These should not be the make-or-break factors in whether you enjoy playing Dead by Daylight.

  • @designator said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/837091#Comment_837091

Ok and most exclusives are not that noticeable either. Most of them are recolors of default skins. They should do something to acknowledge people who earned them and had them before. Yes the rarity is just the UI. But as cheesy as it sounds I like seeing the cosmetics I earned in the game and that's why I keep playing. Also it seems like a majority of people offering opinions on exclusives don't even own any. If you don't own an exclusive I wouldn't expect you to understand.

I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I have learned over my life that these kinds of attachments are meaningless.

I've got plenty of exclusive skins, items, and so on from conventions, preorders, and so on, for many games. These aren't achievements. Going "looky what I have" to other players isn't gratifying. I mean, maybe it is to some players, but this ultimately amounts to what I would call a lopsided value system. Also, other players having the thing doesn't prevent you from continuing to enjoy the thing.

For example, I have the Big Battle Bear mount in World of Warcraft, which was a rare WoW TCG exclusive. If it were given to all players tomorrow, I wouldn't care. I don't understand why people would care. I still have it and can still use it. Maybe if I had paid $700 or whatever it goes for on eBay, I'd be mad, but the anger would absolutely be at myself for having made such a poor decision.

  • @designator said:

They JUST released a fog whisperers charm. They clearly don't mind making new exclusives. At the very VERY least exclusives should be artifact rarity.

Charms are a whole other conversation. They're small enough to not even be really noticeable, and there are going to very quickly be so many of them that they lose all meaning.

Also, who cares what rarity exclusives are? They're "exclusives" rarity, the rarity is just a color on your personal game UI. It doesn't mean anything.

  • You want them to give exclusives to exclusive owners to make up for making exclusives non-exclusive?

Do you understand why that would be very counterintuitive?

  • Oh gawd hahahaha, this sounds like it was "earned," at best, in a monotonous way akin to how I "earned" exalted Ravenholdt reputation in World of Warcraft.

Anyone who knows what I'm talking about is going to immediately know what I mean, but it was the type of thing where I was constantly thinking "Wow, this is objectively just a big waste of my time as a human being on planet Earth, what I'm currently doing."

  • @GrootDude said:

I have exclusive skins in dbd and Paladins, I don’t understand the obsession with them staying exclusive, they’re just skins and I’m completely fine with everyone getting them.

This. These are fake items that you don't even actually own. They don't impact your gameplay, and it's insane that anyone lets them impact their enjoyment or happiness this much. They are not accomplishments in any way.

    @DeadByTunnelight said:

This is one of the stupidest ideas, devs. Why I took part in EVERY single event in the game if new players will get exclusives for free now? Why I even tried? You guys should do more events with exclusives and don't give them to people for free! Now I don't even have to attend in events because every single skin I can buy in the shop...

You took part in them. I assume you enjoyed them. Those memories aren't going anywhere. This is the actual important thing that you should take from these events, if anything.

What I mentioned is the company is closed forever, sadly. And those streamer all go to other platforms, like kingkong, bilibili, douyu, blablabla

Yes, but like they said, per their contract with whoever owns that IP, they can't do it. It probably wasn't worth all the trouble it would take for them to work this out.

  • Who cares? Vaulting as a killer is a bad decision 9 times out of 10 anyway.

  • @AlexoBlue said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/836915#Comment_836915

they can work on it to get the goal of no more exclusive, we're not on the same aspect of this topic.

I don't think anyone is losing any sleep over this item anyway. Heck, I don't even know what it is.

In any case, it's good that they're doing everything that they can to level the "cosmetics field," as it were. They probably would have included all of these other omissions, if circumstances didn't complicate it.

  • This nerf is barely a nerf. The collision detection is the biggest one, but I don't think that will impact the really good Spirit players very much. Vault animation is a wash, since it's usually just generally a bad idea for the killer to vault anyway. And I guess the post-phase speed change remains to be seen, but I don't see that being a make-or-break change.

I can't speak much to the add-ons, since I have literally never used one of her add-ons in all the time I have been playing her, so I just have a massive war chest of every single Spirit item. Prayer Beads nerf seems pretty warranted, though.

What I am trying to do is give you a vision from another perspective, if you constantly try and convince people that you are right you wont have much of an argument.

That's what an argument is -- trying to convince others that your position has merit.

You posed the idea that these cosmetics were meant to "reward human hours spent." This is a flimsy position, and there is no strong basis for it, and I just explained how there was no way Behaviour's marketing team gave them away with that intention.

I've provided a thorough breakdown of why it makes sense, from a big-picture standpoint, to release all of these old convention exclusives into the general pool. And, Behaviour has laid out the facts for why they don't want to do exclusive items anymore in their November developer update.

All of the pushback I've seen to this so far amounts to these really flimsy "but we WORKED for it" arguments that aren't even accurate pictures of how anyone got these items in the first place. It's a weak-argument that really just means "but we want to feel special for being the very few people to have this skin," ignoring all of the reasons in favor.

  • @Skorpan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/836750#Comment_836750

Well, but their purpose is to reward human hours spent...

Which is what they did by giving us those cosmetics in events. And now they're free.

No, that's the purpose you're subjectively ascribing to them. Do you think Behaviour's marketing team sat down and went "We really want to give these cosmetics away at [CONVENTION] to reward the human hours spent getting here"? Because they didn't.

They just made cool promotional items as part of their branding and outreach at that convention, for fans who happened to be there. Maybe some non-players got these skins and were exposed to the game for the very first time, and so they wound up becoming fans as a result of receiving these promo items. If anything, that's the purpose of stuff like this.

And, if you spent all the effort and money to attend a convention just to get a shirt for Claudette -- as opposed to just wanting to experience the convention overall -- I dare say you have some lopsided priorities. I'm not making a personal attack, I think this feels like the insinuation behind all the "we WORKED to get these" posts.

  • They're cosmetic items in a video game. They don't matter, because they aren't real. You don't actually own them, either; they're just part of the EULA that you agreed to.

Also, Behaviour didn't prescribe any of the "work" that you did. They were giveaways to convention attendees. Behaviour has no control over how you decide to spend your human hours, so to shackle their decisions to one person's whims that are beyond their control or their scope is absurd. They are releasing exclusive cosmetics to everyone primarily to protect people from scams involving their product, and also because toxic attitudes demonstrably develop around this kind of exclusivity.

And, this is a video game. It is, by definition, not work.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I agree with the OP 100%

I play since release and worked my ass off to trade towards getting those rare exclusives. Golden Feng or Brazil Claudette gave me at least a little bit of that feeling being an OG Player who supported the Devs for over 3 years now. Guess this is worth nothing. BHVR did close to nothing to show some respect to old Playerbase who supported their game when it had like 8k players average. This was the last straw.

It leaves a very bad and bitter taste in my mouth.

I promise I am not trying to make a personal attack here, but that sounds like you went to a lot of effort for a cosmetic item in a video game, which is ultimately just a mesh that some art guy whipped up in an afternoon. Your perspective here -- which some other irate people obviously share -- is "I worked for this and now I have this!"

But it isn't yours, and you don't actually own any of it. Behaviour didn't ask you to put a ton of effort toward getting those cosmetics, and they had no control over your decision for how you spent your human hours. They were just making cool convention exclusives, at a time when that seemed like the thing to do. Now they look back on it, and their hindsight says that was not a great thing, and they're amending it in a way that is a) equitable to everyone, and b) protects people from scams involving their game. This perspective makes a lot of sense.

Also, this doesn't impact your ability to play and enjoy the game. It is just a cosmetic item. This is one of those attachments that I let go of a long time ago, and I promise you that it feels a lot better when you're confident that you don't have to sweat over that stuff. It doesn't make you any less of a fan, and it shouldn't make you enjoy the game any less. You don't have to own all the stuff to be a "real" fan or whatever, and if that's your mindset, I promise you that you'll feel better if you stop telling yourself that (incidentally, I think that this goes for all collector mentality across all fandoms, but we're talking about DBD here).
