  • Let's see...

Travel distance & time required for a basic full double blink as Nurse:

First blink: 20 meters in 3.5s (2s charge, 1.5s travel time)

Chain blink: 12 meters in 2.4s (1.5 charge, 0.9s travel time)

Additional 2.5s fatique stun after the blinks

Total: ~33m traveled in 8.4s (you can slightly walk in between blinks)

So for ~100m, Nurse needs 25.2s resulting in an average speed of 3.97m/s

(This isn't even considering the recharge time of the blinks)

Travel distance & time required for Spirit:

    1.5s phase walk activation time + 5s phase walk duration = 35.2m distance (5s * 7.04m/s)

It takes 15s to replenish her power, resulting in 66m normal walking distance (15s * 4.4m/s)

So for ~100m, Spirit needs 21.5s resulting in an average speed of 4.65m/s.

Nurse is one of the slowest Killer, ironic isn't it? She is fast for short to mid range but suffers when traveling long distances.

  • The nerf that we all needed! Clown was OP! No seriously, what the hell?

    As for balance;

The current matchmaking demonstrates us perfectly that matches with players of different skill levels are incredibly unfair. So is it the game that is unbalanced or is it the matchmaking that created unfair matches in all those years?

To find out if the game is balanced, the system needs to put TOP TIER players against each other. The best Killers vs the best Survivors, that is a representation of "balance" because the matches are FAIR and the players know how to play, how to abuse mechanics.

It's no coincidence that in tournaments you mostly see tunneling Spirits, Hags and Nurses. If they played other Killers and didn't tunnel, they would get destroyed.

  • I used to laugh at Killers that vault a window instead of picking me up until I vaulted a window 3 times myself. It happens even to the best players so it seems.

  • I saw a hacker yesterday aswell, they were actually called EAC Bypass or something like that. The match was over in less than a minute and the hacker could even tp other Survivors around.

I recorded the match but the endgame lobby closed immediately, not sure if because of the Challenges or because of the Hacker but the result is that I have no SteamID64 or anything of the hacker so my video proof is useless. Really nice anti cheat & report system we have there.

  • I think this is all part of the lore and how the game is designed.

As Mr. Cote said, frustration, anger and generally "real emotions" are a big part of Dead By Daylight so I assume with this behaviour they want to give us the realest and most emotional experience we could get!

By not communicating to the community and by putting 10 hours vs 4000 hours players.

  • It happens to me aswell and I have 20-30ms Ping.

  • I mean I just unlocked Deathslinger 2 days ago and played a total of 4 matches with him, all of those were against red rank Survivors while I am Rank 16 Killer. 3 times all 4 Survivors escaped and one time I managed to get some kills due to an early DC.

How can I have the same Rating with a brand new Killer as those red rank players with 60 hours of playtime in the past 14 days?

There is just no excuse. It works backwards. Tru3 is a red rank Killer and gets Rank 20 Survivors, I am Rank 16 Killer that gets red rank Survivors. How is that not obvious????

I Understand that thats not how balance works, but thats what THE SYSTEM IS DOING. IM NOT SAYING I THINK TBIS IS WHAT ITS DOING, IT IS WHAT IS DOING. Im not trying to trigger anyone im trying to explain why these games are happening to people who are angry. Guess I'll just shut up and let people be angry then

So I guess the part where you said "people need to stop complaining and instead learn to play" was sarcastic? I apologize in that case. You can't get better at the game when you constantly play a 2v1 in a game that's supposed to be a 4v1 with players of equal skill.

  • @rogueplayer00 said:

Its trying to on purpose do this to your teams. It wants to give an average mmr to work on you. So if two people are at 500 and 2 are at 100 and the killer is at 300, thats a "balanced game" in regards to MMR. Its working as intended and people need to stop complaining and just practice and get better.

What the ######### dude, that's not how balance works. You can't just put 2 pros and 2 noobs together and create 4 average players with that. Jesus ######### christ some people in this community trigger me more than vegan feminists.

I love your post and it is very true. The people saying no rank means nothing I carried so and so. Well why did you need to carry them if it is that easy to get? They could get it on there own but wait you knew they didn't have the SKILL to get there. lol

Thank you, it' exactly like that. Another thing to keep in mind, Rank 1 doesn't mean that everyone is equally as skilled at everything. Some people can juke Nurse good, others know how to deal with Trapper or Hag so obviously people experience different scenarios and get the feeling that they played with potatoes but perhaps it's more likely that they just didn't know how to play against this specific Killer, map or whatever.

  • The fact that Survivor need to get carried to Rank 1 is already proof that Rank means something. It's really not hard to understand. I can get boosted to Global Elite is CS:GO or Immortal in Dota 2, that doesn't mean the ranking is meanless. In fact it's the opposite.

The new matchmaking system ASSUMES that if you use a character often that you ARE good with them. This is not necessarily true as in my case where ive been playing 1 character for a while but that doesnt mean im really great, i just like playing that character. And now the experience is ruined because i can ONLY get unbalanced matchups because the game assumes my skill level instead of instituting actual algorithms that work for a player to player basis..... like they should from the beginning. That being said ive not had a decent match since these changes and im still looking.

I unlocked Deathslinger yesterday as a Rank 16 Killer with no perks and the first 4 matches were all without exception against Rank 1-4 Survivors. In 3 of those matches all 4 Survivors escaped rather easily so I just stopped playing Killer, I hope today it's better.

What I wanna say is that how often you play a Character does not seem to matter. Nothing matters.

  • If BHVR would communicate a bit more openly with the community, many of those complaints could be avoided.

Ah. It is fine, I dont recall it ever starting as a dull totem, but I havent played from the very start. Only came into the game around Freddy (end of 2017) And yeah reading intent into words, isnt exactly easy. I can see how that could very easily be misunderstood xD. But I did mean it, when I said it was very balanced. Probably should exclude the 'insane' part though.

Yea, I also think so. It's a high risk / high reward perk that also requires efforts to become useful.

Though that's to keep in mind: most of the time if it gets to 5 or even just 3 tokens, the match is already decided and DH just speeds up the process - at least that was my experience with it.

That's honestly what I am suspecting. They just opened up the matchmaking to match against the first available player/killer in queue and called it their new MMR system.

There's not many competitive games out there that outright ignore MMR to their players. You've always been able to tell if you're going up or down in a system. BHVR's hiding their system because it doesn't work.

Well they thought it would solve the insane queue times!

It's either good matchmaking or good waiting times - can't have both :-(

No no no my man, Oni always had the flick. They've removed it once, then Oni was arguably on of the worst killers in the game, so he got it back, but as @Steel_Eyed sayd, it's sensitivity is really high, it's really not THAT easy to hit the flick, it took me a time to understand it and get that sweet sweet 90º hit.

Woooow how dare you assume my gender in 2020!?! You know that people actually have been perma banned for using the wrong pronoun to adress a person? You've got some BIG BALLS there I must say!

JK, thank you for the info and that actually sounds like Oni could be a Killer worthy of "mastering" for me! nice

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

The Kanabo is highly sensitive when swinging. The community fought for this so Oni could do high degree flicks. Aim dressing walls is just a symptom of the flexibility of the flick.

My instinct is to tell Oni players to learn patience in moving during the flick.

So they removed the flick for Hillbilly but implemented the flick for Oni?

Makes no sense to me since Oni is already much easier to control and has more freedom with his sprint.

Thanks for the input, in future I will pay more attention to this.

  • Wow I recently started playing Oni for the achievements and I noticed that aswell. I always thought it was just me being an absolute potato with Oni and the Survivors really good at juking but sometimes I was sure that I was on point with the aim but the Kanabo landed on a nearby wall / gen / tree or whatever...

Of course it doesn't help that I constantly get matched against red rank Survivors even though I played this Killer for the first time but it was exactly like that when I unlocked Deathslinger yesterday, ONLY red ranks. DbD just sucks at the moment I have no other words for it...

No its active from the start, the only hex totem that isnt, is NOED. Which is why I assumed you thought it was NOED, but fair enough my misunderstanding.

And yeah it can instantly be cleansed. Which is one of the reasons im saying OP is wrong.

Im saying he is wrong if he thinks Devour hope of all perks is scummy. It seems like you read my post with a wrong idea there?

Ideally I would like all Hex spawns to be as difficult as they are on many of the newest maps, but even then I would say the other hex totems are just weak instead of useless, before I would say Hex Totem is scummy/OP.

Oh wow, they must have changed that then because it surely wasn't active from the beginning back in the days. Now that I think of it, perhaps it was just a wet dream that it wasn't lit? :-/

    And yea I assumed sarcasm because;

If they cant find it or have to go for the unhook then whoops, the killer can now mori. This is insanely balanced Hex perk.

So apologies, it appears that I indeed can't read a post properly lol

  • @Reaver_Raziel said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1515283#Comment_1515283

Imagine not being able to read a post, just expecting it to be NOED xD.

Its about Devour Hope. Its never a dull totem.

And as for the Op who things Devour Hope is scummy? What?. You mean a perk that involves playing the game 'normally', leaving hooks(not camping), going for a different target,(not tunelling) to avoid ds and get it faster than they can find and cleanse it. Having to get 3 hooks to get a 1 insta down before they know (possibly 2 before they know, if really lucky). Giving survivors the warning that they need to find devour hope. If they have been paying attention to totems they know which areas they dont have to look.

If they cant find it or have to go for the unhook then whoops, the killer can now mori. This is insanely balanced Hex perk. Its high risk (running with 1 less perk if they find it), Insanely high reward (Instant down and mori), but you have to work for it, and the killer has to get at least 3 unhooks while far enough away from the hooks, before the perk does anything. Haste is either really not impactful, or a not working.

And those 3 unhooks can easily be 4 or 6 or never. Depending on how close the survivors are when you hook one. You warn every survivor in the game to stop what they are doing to find this totem. Which usually means, unless the survivors are either very unlucky or are very smooth brained that the totem will fly before more than 1 mori gets done. Usually you get 0 moris out of this perk, but often you get a few insta downs before the totem is destroyed which makes it still a good enough perk. Like Haunted grounds, but one which works when you have worked for it, instead of when the survivors have fallen for your trap.

What? Devour Hope only activates after getting 2 Tokens, it's not a Hex before that or did I miss something? I'm fully aware that it's not about NOED.

And your IF's can easily be countered with a simple IF of my own:

If they find the Totem immediately, the perk is useless.

  • Can anyone name me a PvP game that doesn't show the ranking in any way?

  • Imagine not being able to do Dull Totems.

  • Perfect balance:

Hillbilly and Huntress. Both high risk / high reward Killers that offer mindgames and plenty of counterplay for both sides.

Not so sure about the new Hillbilly though but Hillbilly Classic was perfect balance in my opinion. Maybe instasaw and instadown hatchets need an adjustment but those are quite rare and expensive.

  • Survivor achievements are a joke compared to the Killer ones.

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1515090#Comment_1515090

Where are you getting that information from?

(And if you're making it up as a joke, it would be good to clarify that so no one like the OP takes it as a fact by mistake.)

It's the truth, the tooth fairy whispered it in my ear while I was sleeping.

  • For each match 2 players will increase their rating, 2 players will lose their rating and one players rating will remain unchanged.

The players are choosen totally random and so is the number of the rating increase / loss. This way people can't abuse the system and it won't end in a "play more = higher rating" problem!

    Perfect solution from BHVR!

  • You're a good person, never change.

  • They admitted that the Emblem System is not a meaningful measurement for skill, something we've been telling them since the introduction.

It's just pathetic that it takes them 2 years to figure that out while it takes 2 hours for the community.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

What's your guess on how the rating works?

It doesn't, that's my theorycraft, BHVR bamboozled us and, by mistake, they just removed any sort of matchmaking they had without replacing it.

It's too consistent in pairing low skill Killers with high skill Survivors (and the other way around) for that.

    ----------------

My explanation for this is that they (hopefully by accident) use a players Killer rating to find a Killer on the same level to go against and the other way around.

Survivor mains that rarely play Killer therefore get low skill Killer.

Killer mains that rarely play Survivor get low skill Survivor.

  • @Artick said:

mmr seems to be giving me fair matches after the first few. I lost a lot at first (10-20ish games) , then I won a lot, now games seem rather fair as killer. survivor is still hit and miss even though I play it more

What do you mean when you say "fair"? For me the matches are always either an easy 4x escape or an easy 4k, they are always unbalanced in one way or another depending on what side I play.

  • Yup, I am usually that Killer.

I'm also curious how the system processes these data!

Is the Rank 19 player losing MMR because they lost an unfair match against people they had absolutely no chance to win?

Are the red Ranks gaining MMR for stomping a new player with no experience?

Why the hell do experienced Killers CONSTANTLY face inexperienced Survivors?

Why the hell do experienced Survivors CONSTANTLY face inexperienced Killers?

This system is a pure disaster but they once again get away with it.

  • @faff said:

maybe otz region lacks high mmr survivors so it throws him the first available ones?

That's definitly not the case as I'm in the same region (EU West) and for me the exact opposite is the case.

I 'm Rank 16 Killer and I constantly face red rank Survivors without exception. Meanwhile Otzdarva, a red rank Killer, with like 5000 hours of playtime, gets some Rank 15-20 Survivor.

There is no logical explanation for this, it's just a purely garbage matchmaking and to be honest if I provided such a low quality product to some of my customers, I would get fired immediately.

    ------------------

...but it's the gaming industry, there are no obligations or responsibilities and we Gamers just exist for the companies to make as much money as possible until we realize it's all money grab. The worst gamers are those that constantly defend companies for their overprized low quality products (this last part is not specificly aimed at BHVR or a person but at the gaming industry in total).

    Wake the ######### up.

  • Those random pallet stuns always get me.

After a wild night I tried to play some Killer the next day but I was so sensitive and nervous that even just the gens popping randomly scared the bejesus out of me.

  • I like looping as Survivor but I hate looping as Killer.

Sometimes looping is needed to win, sometimes people only do it to troll the hell out of already losing Killers.

It is what it is, I stopped hoping for empathy of Survivors when I'm having a bad day, especially after yesterday when I facing countless red rank SWFs while trying to learn Deathslinger on Rank 16.

Just sucks that especially Survivors always have to rub it in that they won or that they're the "better" players and I say that as a Survivor main.

Actually - the player base is leaving the game.

This is a game that had a projected sale of 200,000 copies, and has sold somewhere between 5 and 10 million. Why? Purely because this game has been carried on the back of content creators. The thing is, even their own Fog Whisperers are bored to death with the game, and feel taken advantage of (ask Ohmwrecker about that), and literally every single one of them has gone on record saying the devs *do not listen to anything they say*. As the content creators leave, the game will dwindle. But more content creators will step up and be drafted into the bogus advertising affiliate program called "fog whisperer" just to be on the same path as people like Puppers and Cahla, who have consistently expressed horrendous boredom with the game.

On top of that, if you look at sites like SteamDB or SteamCharts (PC being the lead, and most popular platform the game is played on), you'll see that while the player base has fluctuated in line with certain game breaking bugs, or DLC releases, it has remained, for the most part, relatively stagnant, and never hitting 100k. I actually don't believe it's ever even hit 80k. This is a tell that people are not only leaving, they are leaving about as fast as they are showing up. People buy the game, realize what it is, and how inaccessible it is to new players, and how much of an investment it is to get into the game now in terms of both money AND time, and just leave. It also goes to show that BHVR takes the community for granted, and more or less insults our intelligence on a constant basis.

This is all even with MASSIVE sales, free weekends, everything.

TL;DR - People are leaving, but people are also joining, and leaving INCREDIBLY fast. As shown by the relatively stagnant player base number since the game was released.

As you said, new people come and new people go again but the general playerbase remains the same, which is why the devs don't have to worry. There is no pressure for them, no competition and no matter how low the quality of their updates are, people will continue to play DbD.

  • @xEa I know it would be sad but just think about it. If they used pip / depip as a measurement for the MMR then wouldn't it ultimately lead to exactly the same as the ranking system? If rank was no measurement for skill, that would mean pips are also no measurement for skill. That would be the logical conclusion...

  • For me it's the opposite, I am the potato Killer facing all the red rank SWF squads. It's really disheartening, it feels like new Killers vs experienced Survivors and the other way around.

  • ...and meanwhile as survivor I face a russian Streamer with several hundred viewers and thousands of hours .....along with Rank 16 teammates. E: The guy has 5600 hours in Dead By Daylight, what the hell

Could it be that a persons KILLER rating is responsible for the KILLERS they get and the other way around? It sure as hell looks like that, Killer mains get weak Survivors while Survivor mains get weak Killers.

Statistics have shown that red rank does not equal the player being good. Previously it was possible to get red ranks by playing the game more than enough - that's something which changes with the new MMR. You might be put up by red rank players, but the possibility is that their MMR rating isn't as high despite them being in red ransk. They might have just played enough before. This post goes a bit more into detail about it: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/173606/news-matchmaking-update

Here is another post you can check out with Questions asked by the community being answered. The last one explains a bit more in regards of playing a new killer that you haven't played before:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/177703/community-4-1-0-q-a

Thank you very much for taking the time to link me those Q&A.

I find it a bit frustrating having to learn new Killers in such a way BUT after reading through it, I guess I can take is as a compliment. It does make sense to use the "overall rating" as a rough estimation but it's still tough and kinda scares me to try out new Killers.

Luckily Deathslinger is not a complex Killer but I can only imagine what it must be like for someone that wants to get into Nurse, Oni or Hag, for example. Weeeell gg I guess, time to play Survivor.

E: Also a bit confusing that Killers like Otzdarva face relatively new Survivors with barely any hours of playtime despite him having thousands of hours and surely played every Killer hundreds of times :-/

  • @Gay Myers (Luzi) said:

The MMR has changed, basically the rank numbers do not matter in that regard anymore. You get matched based on the skill rating of the killer you're using. Here's a Q&A that goes into a bit of detail about it: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/179192/community-questions-skill-rating-matchmaking

Does that mean if you unlock a new Killer that you have never played, you automatically get put against the strongest people and then slowly rank down? I played 4 matches as Deathslinger now in total and every single match has been against some red ranks. I managed to get 4 kills in my 2nd match only because one person killed themself on the hook, if that didn't happen it surely would've been another 4 people escape.

So if you say it requires 10 matches to calibrate, how come the first 4 matches are all exclusively against red rank Survivors while I am a total noob...?

I hope the "Skill rating of a Killer" is not based on an universal performance rating of that specific Killer but the actual player that controls them???????

Literally heard yesterday on Twitch. Wont name them.

It's true, both sides cry a lot and people seem to forget about the issues the other side has to deal with.

I think one of the main issues is that when they nerf a specific Killer, the players that mained this Killer often lose a lot of knowledge and skill due to the nerf and therefore "wasted" a lot of time actually mastering that Killer, which of course can be quite frustrating. Billy flick is a good example for this and also one that affects me so I am not sure what to think about it. I never felt like Billy was too strong or uncounterable so I didn't expect the devs to give him that much attention. It feels a bit unjustified.

I see you haven't faced such a top tier killer then. Let me guess: if you die, it's because of your teammates?

I'm one of those top tier Killers, I guess that's the reason why I consider it easy to win as a Survivor.

Playing Survivor is a joke, it's nothing compared to the concentration and skill required for a Killer to win. I sometimes watch streams or tv shows on my 2nd monitor while playing Survivor. It's like being the passive part during coitus, there is really not much you can do wrong as long as you don't throw up or ######### on anyone (depending on the partner).
