What could possibly be the reasoning for this change? It's off-putting and makes everything seem out of sync. The sound doesn't even match up with the animation anymore.
They wanted to make the hook screams more realistic, which means having them start as soon as the hook stabs them instead of when the bar is full. They tried to do it a little while ago but they rolled it back because it made it too easy to let go of the gen before Pain Res procced or something idk
-
It's objectively worse (and that's a good thing). 4 BNPs on a generator would finish it entirely before.
The fact that the progress is permanent is a nice change that stops it from being just a flat nerf. It has the bonus of countering regression perks, but in terms of progression earned, it's worse.
-
If the Killer checked around for even a small amount of time, the perk's timer could run out, making it useless. I think it's fine as-is.
-
I think it still assigns a target TV to them, kind of like how Iridescent Videotape does now.
-
@xerox8521 said:
This also causes hook related perks like Pain Resonance to trigger earlier than usual. This potentionally also causes BBQ & Chili to trigger earlier giving it a nerf in it's usefulness and active up time.
It's intended, they buffed BBQ to reveal auras for 5 seconds for this reason.
-
Yeah, I kinda get what you mean. If I don't hear the Terror Radius for too long then I start to keep more of an eye out.

You can get him for 500
But they 'bundled in' content for the steam store and are charging more for it. Thus forcing you to buy aurics if you don't want that extra content
Actively removing choices from the consumer
I don't really see the issue to be honest. You can still get him for slightly cheaper than a regular single-character chapter or you can buy the character with discounted cosmetics.
-
@tippy2k2 said:
So can you get him for the usual Auric Cells price or is he $10 this way or as an individual character in game?
You can get him for 500 Auric Cells, which is around the same price for single-character Chapters.
If you buy the Chapter, you get a Very Rare cosmetic with it, but it's $10. I think that works out to about half price for the cosmetic which isn't a bad deal honestly.

They have to consider how this affects survivor matches in both kill rate and fun. A killer playing exclusively to down the entire team versus one playing to apply pressure to gens along with downing the entire team usually feels very different from a survivor perspective. If a survivor needs to worry about progressing gens and running away from the killer, the killer should need to regress gens and chase survivors.
As much as one side insists they aren't responsible for the other side's fun, if killer or survivor becomes too unfun or feels hopeless to play then who's going to queue up for that role in the first place?
The basekit mori isn't going to be implemented in the way it was during the PTB.

The possibility all hinges on it they stored the date, otherwise it's pretty difficult? You have to be specific when programming it's not going to just assume you want to store a date.
Also I'm pretty sure that's the entire issue, because progress was stored locally, no? If that file was corrupted, the record is gone.
Steam stores the date of when you get an achievement.
-
It's really not all that difficult to check when a player got the Prestige 3 achievements. Unfortunately they're probably never going to do this.
-
I think having Dyer Island as a map for Blight would be great. It's a pretty important location in the lore that isn't represented in-game at all yet.
-
"That flicking tech"
JFlicks have been patched for ages though? AFAIK the turning for Console Blight was also brought to the same level as PC at a similar time.
-
They've said they're still working on implementing a basekit Mori, but no anti-slug mechanic like on that one PTB.
I hope they implement it well, I love a lot of the Mori animations and the potential for extra ones (like with the upcoming Naughty Bear skin) is exciting. Hopefully they add the Mori animations as a seperate customization item down the road, and not have them tied to a specific skin.
-
This should've been the wake up call to buff Objective points for Survivors in general, but they haven't done anything yet unfortunately.

@Crowman said:
The amount of changes don't really matter imo. Quality is more important.
However the one thing that really baffles me is Hangman's Trick. Hangman's Trick is getting a 2m buff from the ptb. Doesn't really change the fact the perk is still worse, but the fact that the devs took long enough to decide that the best thing they could do with Hangman's is a 2m buff that they missed the window to put it on tomorrow's patch is just weird. The ptb was 3 weeks ago.
Yeah, the buff to Hangman's Trick is almost certainly not enough.
Maybe it could reveal the Auras of Survivors within 6m of a regular Hook, and 12m of a Scourge Hook? That'd be decent I think.
-
Yeah, I think something along those lines would be cool. A perk that lets you open the hatch with your bare hands and/or rummage for a key would be neat, considering keys are so hit or miss now.
I think it could do with a secondary effect that benefits the user during the trial, though, even if it is small. If it only had the key effect then that might give it a reputation akin to Left Behind.
-
Yeah, this addon really didn't need a nerf.
-

does anyone else find it weird how the response to the changes are universally negative except for a handful of power forum users with thousands of posts that only ever seem to post to defend BHVR or try to provide ad-hoc rationalizations for their terrible balancing decisions? no, just me?
Chief I wish I was on BHVR's bankroll to post on the forums, that'd be great.
I don't "only post to defend BHVR" either. There is a lot I have to criticise them for. I just don't think this rework is that bad, honestly. It might need a couple of tweaks in the future but people are acting like the character is completely ruined, which I don't think is true.

No. On the PTB you no longer got a stack for taking a tape. And nothing in the DEV notes suggested they are changing this.
Huh, that's really weird if that's the case. It's not in the Patch Notes or Dev Update or anything. They should bring that back if it was intentionally removed.
-
Yeah, getting rid of the timer for Low Profile would be good, especially since it activates when the last Survivor is downed now. I've had instances where it runs out at an inconvenient time while looking for the hatch.
It should be infinite while the conditions are met and linger for like 60 seconds after you pick up/unhook a Survivor.

If they pick up a tape, they are at risk of their Condemned being snowballed
Not really. If they're injured and holding a Tape they can just hop in a locker and force the killer to interrupt them rather than hit them.
That's an oversight that should be fixed, honestly. (At least I hope it's an oversight lol)

You don't get stacks for picking up tapes.
You immediately get 1 Stack when picking up a Tape.

What do you mean? If you down them that's 2 hits = 4 stacks. If you teleported just twice before they got the tape that's 5 stacks. All you have to do is slug them and hit them once for the condemn mori. You don't get to do that if you hook them and destroy the tape. I strongly recommend against ever hooking with this new version.
The Tape immediately gets destroyed on the first hit. They only get 2 stacks.

Wraith has a speedboost after cloak that makes that not a big issue, sadako does not, there is not a reason to not spam good vaults against her, do if she tries to mindgame you as a survivor have the upper hand as long as there is a window thats not incredibly unsafe.
And what stealth are you on about she literally has a lullaby that warns you she is near, better stealth where? I know if she leaves me or keeps chasing me stealthy the visual TR will tell me that info, so that "buff" to stealth id non existant.
I mean the speedboost is generally irrelevant if a Survivor is spamming vaults in your face. Why would you spam vaults from far away?
And yeah the lullaby is still a thing but it's a lot less obvious than "DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN" playing the second she gets within 12m of you.

You can kind of snowball a Survivor's Condemned now
Only if the survivors let you. Any decent survivors are not going to let this happen.
Only if the survivors let you.
So the decent Survivors are going to drop off their tapes ASAP, which will still provide a good amount of slowdown. While it may be easier to drop off the Tapes, Survivors are going to be doing it more often due to Condemned being applied more frequently.

Not really. It isn’t situational… jus go to a shack and spam vaults. Or loop shack whilst she is demanifested…
Also what I mean about holding W is that it’s even stronger now since he can’t have entity blockers to help her…
If someone's spam vaulting a window they're not making any distance, I don't see how you can hold W AND take advantage of the lack of entity blockers, they're quite mutually exclusive.

@OnryosTapeRentals said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491600#Comment_3491600
No it doesn't.
Two stacks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Not to mention that it's unrealistic to go around and hit a survivor every time they pick up a Tape to even get the stacks in the first place.
Before, Tapes would apply Condemnation passively. It was guaranteed slowdown if survivors picked up a Tape. Now, it's only going to hinder survivors if you're nearby to hit them. If they can see you're across the map chasing, hooking etc. then they know that they're safe to pick up a Tape.
Also survivors can deposit their Tapes in any TV. It's so easy to remove Condemnation now that it's laughable.
It's not just two stacks, there's a lot more potential than that.
It's the 1 stack you get from picking up the Tape, combined with the 2 stacks you get from hitting them. The Tape then gets destroyed, which means they have to get another one, which is another Stack and potentially two extra stacks if you hit them again. You can kind of snowball a Survivor's Condemned now, which is huge.
While they don't provide passive condemned anymore, getting caught with a Tape will end up being really dangerous, so I think people will want to get rid of them quickly.
-
@Matukas said:
I will say that I'm very glad to see that they changed the cooldown on projection (though 10 seconds is still too much) and lowered the cooldowns for TVs (SUPER happy about these durations).
Not really happy about anything else though. 2 stacks per hit with no hook incentive is crazy. I'm just going to slug anyone who has a tape now. Would have much preferred that they listen to the feedback we gave on the PTB instead of incentivizing slugging even more when most of the feedback indicated that moving away from this sort of thing would have been well-received.
The fact that her chase is absolutely atrocious now doesn't really help her move away from slugging either, since she's now incentivized to really pressure what downs she is able to get. The PTB-version of her makes it so that demanifest mindgames are dead and Reiko's Watch is dead, so she's going to be slug all the way to the Major League.
I don't really see how it encourages slugging considering the Tape gets destroyed on hit. There's not really any advantage to slugging when you down someone with a Tape. The only thing it will really encourage is hit and running healthy Survivors with a Tape.
-
@SteveByDaylights said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491581#Comment_3491581
No. Mindgames with her are not the same. Survivors can literally hold W and spam strong windows vaults. There is kind of like 0 reason to do mindgames. It’s going to be a boring PWYF sadako meta! Also that “risk” is almost gone immediately since you can put the tape into any Tv
Spamming strong vaults is going to be pretty situational. Against Wraith it's only really useful for forcing him to decloak to vault a strong window. I think it's worth it in exchange for her stealth being better.
I don't see how holding W is the rework's fault either, that's always been a thing you can do lol.

Being hooked while carrying a tape will no longer inflict other Survivors with Condemned. The tape will still be destroyed.
Yeah, and the buff that came with it pretty signficantly outweighs that.
-
"I hated playing her on the PTB. She felt slow, clunky, and too at the mercy of the survivors' actions. Nothing in the Developer Update rectifies this."
They reduced the overall TP cooldown and the time Survivors can disable TVs for, alongside reducing the cooldown for TPing to your own TVs MASSIVELY.
Also how are the tweaks a nerf to Cursed Tapes? Getting +2 Stacks AND having to pick up another Tape to get more Condemned if you're hit is a massive buff.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491550#Comment_3491550
I compared her to the Freddy change because the power feels more boring (demanifest mindgames discouraged, mindless global Condemn teleports) and inaccurate and different to the movie version (having Cursed Tapes now shields you from teleport condemn while they're the one thing that curses you in the movie, and also now she can condemn people who don't interact with her and her tapes at all)
I never mentioned the scale of the rework for this comparison, just the fun and the accuracy to the source material
I wouldn't personally say she's more boring. Demanifest mindgames are basically the same, considering that most of them involve immediately remanifesting.
The whole "mindless global teleports" thing is why Tapes now protect you from teleport Condemned, if she starts repeatedly teleporting then Survivors can pick up Tapes as a counterplay to it.
Having a Cursed Tape puts you at risk for getting a massive chunk of Condemned, as well as having to get a new one (which gives even more Condemned). While it shields you from the teleport Condemned, there's a big downside to getting caught with a Tape now. They can give the most Condemned out of any part of her power, so your criticism doesn't really make sense imo.
Also she could always Condemn people who never interacted with her Tapes, you literally just had to be near a TV. In fact, you'd hardly end up interacting with a Tape at all during the course of a game, maybe like once or twice per match unless she had MYC or something.
The rework encourages interacting with her power a lot more, which I think will make her a lot more interesting overall.
-
@tuttoinunavolta said:
The changes going through when everybody reported negatively on them in the PTB forums is genuinely puzzling. I do understand it would feel bad to suddenly scrap all the effort that went into the rework, but something as hated and honestly unhealthy for the game shouldn't get in. I think these changes are going to Freddy-fy her - make her a weak, boring character, completely inaccurate to the movie version, that stomps new lobbies and gets stomped by everybody else. A really sad update
What? This rework is nothing like the scale of Freddy's was. Freddy essentially got a new power entirely.
-
I'm a fan of this rework overall, to be honest. Condemned actually feels like a mechanic worth worrying about now, and Sadako players with good map awareness will be able to get kills with it more consistently. You can't just completely ignore it. It might be a bit easier to actually put the tapes back when you grab one, but you'll need to do it more often AND getting caught with a Tape is potentially lethal.
The post-PTB tweaks are even better, the cooldown reduction is great, 15 seconds felt a bit clunky so I can imagine 10 will be alright. TVs not being disabled for ages when you TP to them is amazing too.
The only thing I agree with is some of the addon changes, Reiko's Watch getting nerfed seems really unnecessary.
Apart from some of the addons, I really don't get the negative feedback towards the rework. The tweaks solved a lot of the big issues with it.

This! I hate a slugging Sadako. Hate it.
They changed Ring Drawing to not apply when healing a Survivor from the Dying state, which hampers that playstyle a lot.

Good changes overall, I think. TVs not being turned off for an eternity when you project to them is amazing.

There's quite a good reason Artist specifically has this exception. She can consistently pressure Survivors from across the map.
A Leatherface can make it borderline impossible to unhook someone, but he isn't pressuring any of the other Survivors while doing so. Artist can launch her projectiles through walls across the entire map. Without this restriction, she'd be able to facecamp someone AND harass Survivors off of Generators at the same time.
Also Knight, Dredge and Twins all have mechanics to prevent them from camping. The Twins anti-camp should be improved, but I can imagine that will probably come with the rework.
-
It'll probably be a gen repair speed boost if the match goes on for too long.
-

There's already a thread about it but yeah this is probably the straw that broke the camel's back in regards to Skull Merchant. BHVR can't do nothing in regards to SM and it probably needs to be sooner rather than later because what occurred yesterday shouldn't be possible.
They've already announced an upcoming update to SM, and that they're working on a solution to excessively long 3 gens as a whole. They're not doing nothing, don't worry.
-
We haven't seen the post-PTB changes yet. With the amount of feedback she got, I'd imagine the rework is getting some tweaks.

They've been real quiet for some reason.

-
I doubt we're getting one this week.
-
I'd rather see Fire Up at 6% per token.
-
Yeah, usually they would've put out a dev update or something with Post-PTB changes by now.
-
Wraith is better, and it's really no contest. His stealth is more consistent, he has good mobility and hit and run, as well as the post-uncloak speed boost which is useful at some pallets. He can also use his cloaked speed to cut off Survivors from Windows or Pallets.
Ghostface doesn't really have any chase power or mobility, just the ability to instadown sometimes. He is a fun killer to play but he's really not all that good in the grand scheme of things. Plus he has to deal with Reveal and Stalk jank.
-
Alright, we're removing Exhaustion perks.
They no longer use the Exhausted Status Effect and now have separate cooldowns again, good luck.
-
Ormond? Garden and Badham have balance issues but Ormond is generally pretty well balanced now.
