Would you prefer the ping to just be a UI-Message, a Map marker at the survivor location, or where they're looking at?
I'm pretty much more a fan of the ping approach than just spoonfeeding the info via automatic UI. Comms never did generate info from nothing, so it wouldnt be closing the gap but just buffing. But if that's what survs need, then who am I to deny them.
In another thread people were suddenly claiming that ping tools wouldnt be buffs because they werent automatic and you wouldnt be able to trust randoms to use them. But using tools provided to you is a skill issue (I cringe at that buzzworld lol)
(Can't wait for "buff all killers to Nurse level" buffs after we buffed "solo" to "swf" lol.)
-
Its a team game until only 2 are left.
Then its a ladt man standing for the hatch.
-
As for OP's idea of basekit unbreakable.
How many former meta perks do you need made basekit?

Only if the killer gets the sacrifice BP they would have if they'd hooked everyone, otherwise you're just needlessly punishing the killer because the survivors threw.
I think a distinction between "hooking" "dies by sacrifice" and "bled out" for bp score events makes sense.
But the BP for "bled out" are pitiful and surely could be increased, but shouldnt be as high as "survivor hooked twice and sacrificed"
-
@Maelstrom808 said:
No. Address the situations where it is a problem (Starstruck nurse, 4k bleedouts) without removing it's legit applications (combating sabo/altruism squads, creating pressure without removing a survivor from the game).
"Once all 4 survivors are incapacitated (hooked, dead downed) and unable to do anything about it, reduce their timers to 10s"
Bleedout solved.
-
Gen charges get increased by 12.5%
Survivor: hook time needs to be increased by 50%!!!!!
----
Yeah no that alone is quite busted.
-
Just buff the less played killers till theyre somewhat on par with the popular (good) killers.
-
How about not doing gens before a hook? Sounds stupid? It's what youre telllng killers to do.
Ever swap between muktiple gens just because? What, focusing on one gen is more efficient/better? Sounds familiar.
-
Lol.
It was fixed because being able to struggle or unhook yourself wasted everyones time.
It was possible before, devs fixed it. And it will stay that way.
As for your deliverance example. Use it before youre the last.
-
I'm gonna try to stay neutral, so if good players of a character can overperform with a tool given to them then said tool or character may need to be looked at.
Either apply the last paragrph to both factions or none.

It doesn't reward the survivor for losing. The survivors still lose. Just hook the next to last survivor and try to catch the last dude as well. And hey, 3 Kill is still a win. It punishes the killer for letting you bleed out on the floor for 4 minutes because he can't find Dwight at the end.
Do you 99% the gates when playing survivor?
If you see a survivor slugged for the 4k, do you wait for them to die so you get the hatch?
If you do sometimes then you shouldnt talk about slugging for the 4k.
As for the 3k is a win thing: ever got the 2500 bp for winning that way?
-
All gens or just a few?
Because all would be coznterproductive and just make survivors hide the whole time, making it dead time nobody is really playing.
I'd rather have something softer like -20% repair speed until a gen is done or x minutes have passed. Dont get your pitchforks it was just an example.
A better solution would be reworking how gens work. If they were more engaging or "more prone to mistakes" than just holding m1, then thered be natural slowdown or chances for the killer to intercept a gen.

The only way to really balance around SWF would be to implement voice comms, which thankfully isn't something likely yo ever happen. The icons will be good, but still well short of voice comms. Yes, it's quicker than voice comms, but you can convey a ton more info over comms, and it's not particularly close. Some will say that communication is a skill, and to a degree it is, but it's not like an arcane art or something. Efficient yet informative call outs are not hard to learn, and in DBD info is king.
The icons might add a little to a SWF squad, but they will be transformative for solo.
SWF hit squads are rare, and there's nothing you can really do about them but do your best and move on.
I'd be all for bringing killer power levels closer to the mean (but not too close), and would understand even flat out removing the Nurse (another thing that will never happen). But until that happens, you can't nerf killer as whole fairly; you'll end up making the C/D tier killer totally non-viable.
And DH was used much more than NOED, and regardless of how much you were conditioned by it, or how skilled you were, there was nothing you could do about the distance. Old DH was the most busted perk in the game, new DH is fine.
And I don't know about you, but I always assume NOED, and always have, even if the rate is low.
I actually agree that comms are way more versatile than everthying they could add to emulate it.
I'm not even against giving survivors all that ui stuff (action and maybe general location), but people should stop claiming that stuff wont be used better by swf than by solo.
Also, if we buff survivors only from bottom up the same should be applied to killers.
The future C-D tiers should be at the current A-B tiers.

I have a couple thoughts after reading all of this:
- We'd need a large block of gameplay to review to assess anything. I see a lot of people posting about how easy killer is, and using postgame screens and unverifiable claims of how high their MMR is, and how many hours they play, as some sort of proof. Not outright calling people liars, but that doesn't mean much at all. I play pretty lax, but I could grab a few post game snaps after I fed some potatoes their lunch and say they reflect like 90% of my games, but it wouldn't mean anything either. Might it be an honest sample? Sure. Might it just be a bunch of cherry-picking? Just as likely.
- Yes, you can win most of your games as killer versus non-swfs if you play with merciless, cold efficiency. But is that really what we want to balance around? Is that what we want to hold up as standard killer play? Because I can do it too, but I don't want to, and survs don't want it, either. At least not every match. Killers playing to win is why the "rulebook" came to be.
This is all just illustrative of how impossible this game is to balance. If you balance around the idea that we need to account for the fact that any given killer might may play ruthlessly, then you're going to force more killers to play that way. It's also the reason you don't want to balance around SWF; it would ruin solo queue and casual DBD in general.
At the end of the day, how the games go is in the hands of the players, because this thing is never gonna be standardized.
Well but the community (and devs) plan to balance around swf by giving icons and stuff (which will help swf too because a flick of the eye is faster than asking for info)
While simultabeously making "playing killer ruthlessy" more difficult and advocating to gut the top killers down to "more manageable levels ( see billy adjustment lol)
We as community theorycraft bslance around buffing noobs to swf swat teams and gutting top killers down lol.
Oh right:
DH was conditioning many killers to be wary of it regardless of it being equipped or not. Not even noed managed to do that for survs lol.

You should probably take your own advice though. Don't crutch on things like old DS, OTR, DH. To shoot yourself up in to brackets that you don't belong in
It's funny its ever only the killers who crutch themselve up or should play in certain ways to do make it fair lol.

Why is it wrong for the killer to go for the 4K? If 2 survivors are dead and the third is downed, the killer has pretty much dominated the game. Wanting the maximum result isn't weird.
Do you apply this same standard to survivors going back to unhook the fourth survivor instead of leaving them to die? If they can get a 3-man escape, why go for the fourth? Is it weird they want a 4 man escape over a 3 man escape?
I'd rather apply the standard to ach survivor on their own. As the 4th survivor would have no choice in the matter if 3 others did decide to not sacrifice themselves because they escaped first.
Applying the 3/4 rule to survivor objectives comes out as about doing 5 gens, but not opening the gates or escaping.
But when not using numbers the double standard is even more apparant.
"Killers are expected to not go for their full goal, but survivors are allowed to."

It's not that much of a stretch. The survivor rule book is no joke. You can't post gameplay of tunneling or camping without someone "calling you out".
- We should buff survivor to the level of "survivor+friends+comms"
- We should buff all killers to the level of nurse
Only one of those gets dupport from all the community lol.
- "Be happy with only reaching 71-75% of your goal"
- Be happy with 3 kills, you dont need the 4th
- Be happy with powering the gens, you dont need to open the gates and escape.
-
Totally agree.
But for the current action UI im kinda split as for one i want solo and swf normalized so that the same might happen for killers in the same direction (ONLY BUFFS), but swf doesnt give such info automatically.
Yes it might become obnoxious to press a button to display a "I'm doing x"-message, but automatic info is way more powerful than the info provided by comms.
Should we give survivors a location widget or a map too? Afterall some pro survibors were capable of doing that eith comms lol. Jk

I'm imagining a super map with all the maps in the respective realms stapled together (At least the realms that have more than 2 maps) and maybe like 7 out of 12 generators need to be completed or something.
I played IdV a few years ago and 7/12 gens was indeed one of the special rules. But a whoopping 30% repair speedpenalty and 3 healthstates.
But they also had an anti camp mechanic: survivors dont get sacrificed for the first 30 seconds on a hook, but they couldnt be rescued in that rime. Then the sacrifice started as normal.
1 camps 1 hunts was basically useless as a strategy. And 2 killers focusing 1 dude didnt work reliably either. Tho quickly punching someone if the other just happened to herd someone to you was fine.
The gamemode was wild.
Edit: finally some site has the rules written down, just took them years lol.
-
Taking IdV as example a 2v8 would probabky need special rules.... and a new map.
But in general, doctor or plague paired with anyone else. Theyre the best utility debuffer.
Plague makes people broken.
Doctor makes people scream. It's a general survivor animation that spawns a notification. Even if they doc's partner wouldnt see the illusions or the fake red stain, the screams alone, be it madness or static blast induced, will be helpful.
On the other end of the spectrum: nurse because shes top killer.
Truth to be told, there would need to be a wesker/trapper achievment for throwing someone into a trap
-
The reason for needing to nerf the nurse is the same reason for needing to close the swf gap by buffing "solo". Either nerf both or buff both. Be impartial.
You need to admit you're survivor biased.
-
Take any tier list of your liking, Otz made one recently for an example. Let's call it the old list. S-D tiers.
Modify all A-D tier killers of the old list so that all C-D tiers of the new list would be in the A-B tiers of the old list.
Close the gaps between killer tiers.
Yes this doesnt touch nurse because buffing weak towards strong isnt exclzsive to survs.

I am ok with not escaping all the time. As long as Doors get opened by survivors every game. Otherwise I don't even consider it a match since there was no chance of winning as survivor.
Would you be fine to be told to do that every trial else you'd be a sweaty tryhard for trying to escape nonetheless?

2 differences.
1: Each survivors if measured on whether they escape or not. If they haven't escaped they've accomplished 0% of their objective. On the other hand the difference for a killer is between 75% and a 100% (or being we're talking about a hatch here, a 3 point win or a 4 point win).
2: If the end game of the survivors to accomplish the last 25% of their goal felt like it took as long as the rest of the game and just involved staring at the screen not doing anything, yeah, I'd complain about it too.
1. You're mixing up objectives and goals. Do 5 gens (5/7), open a gate (6/7), exit (7/7) to escape (goal).

Pretty much. Dbd is the only game, where solo is supposedly the majority of the playerbase, but SWF affects kill rates so heavily, that its visible on the charts.
Im amazed how survivor bissed the whole community is.
"Be happy you only achieved 71-75% od your objectives" is only applied to killers for example.
Tell a survivor to br glad with doing 5 of 7 objectives and you get walls of texts messages :)

How is that even remotely the same? You can end the game 6 ways to Sunday as survivor, but the killer is at the game's and the survivors' mercy.
Im not familiar with the Saying "6 ways to sunday", but i guess you mean "many".
- 3/4 kills = 75% progress to the goal of 4 kills
- 5gens powered, only need to open gate and then escape, 5/7 objectives = ~71%
I was just pointing out that if you only agree to one of those stupid statements you're either favoring killer or survivor like a "biased x main". Even if youre neither.

That is a false equivalency. The second line would have to be "Be happy with the 3 man out, you don't need a 4 man escape." However in this case, there is additional social aspects of the game, and a risk to lose more than is gained.
In solo-q I would like to rescue the person who helped me earlier, and leave the person to die if they sabotaged me. There is risk in that proposition of rescuing however, as you can lose more than you stand to gain. Even then you have to take hits on the way out bodyblocking, which gives the killer more BP. As killer it strictly is gaining more at the cost of everyone's time. Part of that would be removed if they let you see a killer's perks and add-ons as long as no one you queued with is still alive. Now I will admit to sometimes slugging the 2nd to last survivor, but it is because I want to kill the other person and let the slugged person go. Alternatively if I hated everyone in the lobby and wanted to return the pain they inflicted on me. In general however, I will always kill players I wouldn't want on my solo-q team if I can help it.
Not a false eqivalency because by default survivors arent a team who share any win condition. Thats only in swf players mind. Of course we also could useyour version but thats worse as it's my version applied to only 2 of 5 people involved. What about fairness lol.
"When playing x be happy with doing only ~71 - 75% of your objectives, else youre a sweatlord"
-
@GannTM said:
I don’t understand how getting a 4k is so important to some of you. A 3k plus hatch escape is still a win.
I think it's not fair to dismiss only one faction for trying to fulfill their goal. Survivors want to escape, kills want to kill all 4 survivors. ( game recognizes both with bonus reward of 5000 for survivors and 2500 for killers. )
Feel free to dismiss the next questions if you think theyre just us vs them whataboutism:
Should we tell survivors too to be happy with just powering the gates and then offer themselves up? Thats about 71% of the survivor objectives done (5 gens + open gates + escape)
-
"Be happy with a 3k, you dont need 4"
"Be happy wtih gens done, no need to escape"
If you say yes to only one of those you might be biased.

Survivors tend to do that to avoid Blood Warden; There's no other counterplay, AFAIK. Those who do that to avoid EGC are bad players, who do usually pay for their mistakes..
Survivors are automatically sacrificed even if the survivor got hooked for the first time the second the game acknowledges that all other survivors have escaped, got killed, or sacrificed.
If you're getting so bothered by the powered Exit Gate, just don't close the Hatch; Escaping through the Hatch doesn't grant you any MMR, if the Hatch has spawned because you the survivor was the last standing in the trial.
Although you're calling others survivor biased, your response is full of a killer bias, which makes it really ironic and hard to take you seriously.
What's with the Me or us Vs. the others mentality? This is seriously outta place here, it doesn't belong here.
So killers should be allowed to slug to avoid the hatch right? Naaah its only allowed when survivors avoid an undesirable mechanic.
Survivors get sacrificed automatically because if they were able to jumpmoff, killers wouldnt go anywhere else BECAUSE theyre able to jumpmoff. The devs rightfully fixed it. If you're bothered by getting instantly saccrificed despite never hasving been hooked before, just dont get found on your way to the hatch or freely powered gates next time. And being the last survivor isnt an achievment, outlasting the other survivors is the laziest way to win a round and sadly a viable option to escape.
Did i trigger you with the word "bias"? Should i have used " favoritism" instead? Just accept you're not gonna escape every time, in fact you should actively stop trying to escape arbitarily every few rounds. Going for the goal is sweaty.
- "4k bad, be fine with 3"
- " just do a gen, you dont needa escape".
- Team version: "we dont need to all escape, if one makes it out the rest should go offer themselves to the killer."
If you think that 2. and 3. are stupid while 1. is normal, then you are indeed survivor biased.
This is a us vs them dscussion about telling someone else to play how you want so my us vs them comment is very much in place.

Another bad take from you it never ends huh? Slugging removes an intended mechanic the devs put in place to give at least 1 survivor a chance no matter how awful the game went.
Why are killers so hell-bent on avoiding mechanics in the game?
Survivors 99'ing the gate avoids EGC mechanic. No one cares
Killers gotta give up the win bonus for 4kills for the feelings of the pooor poor survivors. Survivors do not sacrifice themselves if 3 others already escaped, or actually think "hey I totally did enough this round and should totally give up to escape at all". Killers dont even get a chance to recover thr " full win" bonus once a survivor escaped, the last survivor in comparison can still have a second and third chance to get the win/escape bonus via hatch and autopowered doors.
Just because the second and third chance exist dont mean you get those every time.
Community survivor bias is showing again.

I wonder why everyone is equalizing/associating "solo" with "bad". You dont need "swf" to be "good" at survivor. Hatch is always there to catch you anyways.

Okay? So what? Fun is subjective, and there will never ever be a versus where all players on all sides are having fun always. So it's irrelevant. You can't even objectively make something "more fun" because the standard itself is a whim of whoever you ask. So only balance is relevant. You even acknowledge the basekit is balanced. Range/3 blink need to get hard reworked to completely different effects.
I think the game should get rid of %-variable addons. Just make every addon a meme or "mini-perk" instead of boosting charge speed, range, steering, cooldown or whatever. Give some (brown or yellow effects) of the lost max potential stats to the basekit of killers and rework all affected addons. Maybe excluse Nurse with the basekit compensation, just for the survivor community.
Wouldn't help Nurse because she'd still be the best and we can't have a "the best" killer in this community. The devs could nerf the current "the best" killer 10 times in a row and survivors would still moan that "the best" killer is too strong.
-
Won't happen, this community doesnt judge survivors and killer equally.
"Survivor needs to be buffed to the level of "Survivor with friends on comms" because the devs can't modify "with friends" or "on comms" and they cant nerf survivor because poor
solosurvivor is apparantly too weak. Can't nerf "god" survivors because "baby" survivors would suffer. And as far as i remember SwF cant be seperately adjusted because the devs 1) dont want to and 2) the survivors would be able to dodge said adjustments with lobbydodging till they#re "just 4 randoms who happens to be in each others friendlists and on a discord call to just talk about their days, the weather and cute boys, but not the game".On the other team we definitely, without alternatives have to nerf the top killers to put them on the level of the "average" killers. So we nerfed Billy, Nurse, Spirit and now Nurse is targeted again. No mercy for "baby" nurses tho because "god" are too good.
sigh
Sadly the most... reasonable? ... route would be to "buff solo to swf" and simultaneously "close the killer tier gaps" for killers ( buff/adjust all killers so they'd all be in the S-B tier range of the current S-D tier lists). But as already said, won't happen cuz the community doesnt want to be actually fair.
-
You couldve just done the gens if he blocked the hatch.
-
actually the vault "unhealthy only"-grabs are an outlier that should be normalized, same with healing not having a grab at all. Alternatively, DBD could just go the IdV route and make survivors "exposed" during actions.
Suddenly our current nearly nonfunctional grabs sound sooo good for the game, right?
-
How about we do it for Killers like we all are advocating to do for survivors?
Buff the hell out of every other Killer to get them to Nurse's level (or atleast to A tier in the current lists) and then adjust survivors to compensate, which would be the whole solo-swf crap weve been advocating for.
Oh wait, Community biased.

FR, DH was basically the Brigitte of dbd: a hard counter to nearly all killer powers and more often then not an uncounterable "get out of jail" card. This perk alone made playing killer such a miserable experience that I even doubted myself why I was sticking with it.
Like Brigitte, DH held the game in a terrible vicegrip/stranglehold and alone lead to unprecidented bleeding of killer players, because playing that role was just not fun anymore. Playing survivor had become so easy and many players got carried hard by the ever same meta combination, that a 4E was more or less the devault state, unless the MMR system paired a killer with way more inexperienced players.
So OP might be right with some of their perceptions, but its very one sided. The 6.1 patch breathed fresh air into the game, and while it made things apparently a bit too tought for survivors, I applaud BHVR for the brave decision.
DH is invisible tho. Brigitte you can groan when you see her ( like nurse screams lol).
DH/DS conditioned whole generations of kullers to play a certain way.
-
As long the devs dont puplish an official tier list, she can be whatever tier you want her to be.
If you recognize her as S tier, then I'm happy for you and impressed, because I conceptually are appalled by her loss of visual tracking. But I'm not good at DBD at all so my opinion os just that.
But @Brokenbones has a point, in out current time you should definitely not put her in S tier. She might end up on the chopping block again due to our community's routine. "Nerf top killer, chose next top killer".
But this is a spirit appreciation thread and not a questionable balance thread so cheers for the ghost girl with bedhair .
-
My impression of the current situation is that the community itself cant be fair towards both factions in this game.
Its weird that we dont hold the survivor character to the same standard as killers, in recent times the nurse. We gotta push survivor up be cause baby survivors are weaker than god survivors. Nerf nurse because of the 1% god nurses, who cares for the babies.
Let's say the devs rework nurse, and as she's "overperforming" unlike billy who was in a good spot, they go all out with
nerfrework and she ends up in B tier. There wont be big discussions to equalize D tier killers with A tiers, the next big thing will be "Nerf Blight, OP". -
Because of the whole "you stop a survivor from playing the game", you simply cant make camping fun.
They "didnt get to play", so a survivor will never have fun getting camped.

Wouldn't mind seeing an updated depip squad attempt. I have a feeling it wouldn't be nearly as successful as the previous one considering how much the game has changed.
I didn't watch all of the videos at the time, mostly just the ones with nurse because many people at the time claimed because they beat a fair number of Nurses it proved she is in a fine place balance-wise.
Only a single nurse they faced was above beginner level.
Anyways, I've been pretty vocal that SWF needs to be changed in some way along with nurse. I truly think that buffing other killers to Nurse's level and buffing solo survivors up to swf level would create a terrible game. Both those aspects of the game have too much power (swf because of comms and nurse because of her core mechanics/addons). Buffing everything up can't be the only solution.
People keep saying nerfing swf will never work. Well, to me that is like the devs when they say nothing they test works against face camping. They just aren't trying hard enough.
You must be the first person i actively see mentioning also nerfing swf whe nerfing nurse. I'm impressed. ( in a good way if it wasnt clear).
Nerfing "swf" though seems unlikely because the only part the devs can change in "survivor with friend on comms" is "survivor".
There might be changes to the game that could only affect people paired in a swf-lobby, but the community would go back to lobbydodging till theyre "just 4 random people who happen to be on each others friendlists and are in teamchat".
-
Well theyre not bad perks.
But shadowborn would be better as an option. Thats been a common opinion here for years.
I guess it'd be less impactful as the improved BT survs got added.
But getting such a QoL is too much for the oh so evil killer players.

Congratulations on the hypocrisy.
BHVR nerfs one perk that is bad on everyone including Nurse, alluding to Nurse and other killers (given the pluralized description), and suddenly this means Nurse holds back perks.
How terribly inconvenient for you, that BHVR has also buffed 17 perks and released 40 perks that are okay, great, or insane for her. Also BHVR nerfing other perks due to other killers.
Remember boil over? Its weird nobody was advocating to blanket nerf survivors instead.
I think the community suffers frome some disability to judge both factions in this game equally.

With what some people consider camping, tunneling or toxic, i wont question your statement.

FreeBT can delay a killer for up to 80s thats 22% of the time it zakes to sacrifice 3 survivors (4th is instant so i diddnt account for it)
Like delay survivors for the same %. Block all gens for 20-25 whenever a gen is finished.
More fair than 30 seconds at the start which just makes survivors hide.

Survivors got 50 charges split across 4.
Now killers gotta respect those 10s per hook. Its probably unrealistic but wouldnt that go up to 80s when playing "fair"? (12 hooking, 8 of those with unhook)
