It still has the problem that killers can just slug everyone to bypass the penalty entirely and killing off a survivor regardless of your play style still punishes you.

I think your intangible idea is the better way to go, but even that still has issues.

I honestly don’t think there is anyway to effectively eliminate tunnelling without completely reworking how the game works.

Well, I did say it was all off the top of my head 😅

  • @BlightedDolphin said:

That first suggestion punishes every killer no matter how they play and arguably hurts those NOT tunnelling more.

If you tunnel someone out they will have the penalty earlier, but there will still be a lot more gens left that it won’t make much difference.

If you go for spreading hooks, by the time you kill one of them you are probably done to only a couple gens remaining in which case faster repair and more pallets can be massively game changing. You played fair but still get massively punished for playing well.

You’re going to get the penalty anyway, so people would just tunnel one out REALLY earlier or slug everyone. Doesn’t seem fun for anyone.

Presumably, we would also re-balance the 4v1 to be slightly less Survivor-favored.

I don't think it's a hot take to say that a lot of Killers can keep up a 4v1 for a while, but will eventually lose the attrition gen battle; wheras the 3v1 is massively against Survivors to the point where the Killer would need to intentionally throw to lose an early 3v1.

It really isn’t. It doesn’t take a genius to waste time at a strong loop since most killers effectively have no counterplay. Even if you drop that chase and surprise hit another survivor, they’ll use the speed boost to get to another strong loop and start it all over again. Killers don’t have enough agency in a match. It comes down to survivors making mistakes and RNG.

I am genuinely very sorry that you feel that's the case.

I’m sorry but they were literally terrified of an M1 killer I can’t take that match serious and assuming this was even the case, I never said she couldn’t hold a 3 gen just that plague has always done it better, easier, more effectively, and most importantly neither her or skull merchant were ever problems!

You can’t seriously still be blinded by your weird hate boner for SM to say she’s still better at 3 genning

The evidence says that I am correct. All you have provided is anecdotal evidence. You feel like it's better

Real comp players (the best of the best) got locked into a 50 minute match against an extremely average DM. I have NEVER seen a Plague do that.

DM Drones allow her to hold 3-gens and the threat of those Drones is immediate. You NEED to disable them first, which guarantees Overcharge and CoB value. Plague relies on her own presence to create pressure.

  • DM did it easier and better, as shown by the best Survivors in the world vs an average pub DM.

Great, how do we punish gen-rushing and endless looping survivors while we're at it?

If a Survivor is consistently looping you "endlessly" that is entirely on you.

    Also, blatant whataboutism.

  • @Ayodam said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3615876#Comment_3615876

What are some ways you think this could be implemented?

Not all of these would happen at the same time. Just some ideas off the top of my head.

Re-balancing the 3v1 to be less Killer-sided. Whether that be via action speed buffs or respawning pallets or something, idk.

Having unhooked Survivors be intangible until they perform a conspicuous (or rushed) action or until another Survivor is downed. Could have some issues with flashlights, but honestly, that's two people not doing gens.

Having a basekit DS. Buffing DS.

  • She's still extremely good at holding a 3-gen.

She can also chase now, although that doesn't seem to stop people from dragging out games simply because they can.

  • Make it more difficult and dissuade people from attempting it.

You can't reward people into not tunneling

  • @Ayodam said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3615821#Comment_3615821

You’re taking it too personally. I guarantee most tunnelers couldn’t care less about your gaming experience. And they don’t care how you feel about their play style. They’re doing as they do because it’s an endorphin rush to win and the strategies most detestable for survivors are incidentally the ones that most easily produce a win for killers. These players frankly aren’t emotionally-invested enough to be a-holes; they’re just people who want to win (like you) and have better strategies available to achieve that (than you). It sucks for you and other survivors certainly but what are you going to do about it?

Punish it and promote more healthy playstyles?

  • @Zaydin said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3615806#Comment_3615806

Why would they punish it? It's the easiest way for a Killer to relieve pressure on them while simultaneously increasing the pressure on the remaining survivors.

The sooner you can make it 1v3 instead of 1v4 it becomes easier to win.

Because it's not really fun for anyone except people who do it to be an #########.

It's the easiest way for a KIller to reduce the pressure on them and simultaneously increase the pressure on the remaining survivors.

Blame BHVR for incentivizing Killers getting a survivor out of the match ASAP.

It's not that they've incentivized it, rather that they've not punished it.

Skill expression as survivor comes down to 90% map/tile knowledge 10% mindgames.

It also requires meaningful counterplay, of which Trickster has none.

Even if you dodge twenty knives, it doesn't matter. Once he gets Main Event, you die. He's ass to play against because he's like old Legion. You are gonna go down, it doesn't really matter how good you are. He might still lose, but he can absolutely ######### you over in particular and your skill doesn't matter

In other games, the best players consistently win. If a character wins a tournament, it doesn’t mean that character needs a nerf. The cream will always rise to the top. This community’s problem is that there too many people who expect to win against those who are better than them.

Consistent wins is not the same as 2000 wins in a row.

I guess ultimately I just see those scenarios as more in survivors’ control by default. But I could certainly be wrong! And I could see it swinging the other way, especially for very strong killers like nurse and blight.

But also it’s a totally unrealistic hypothetical because no one ever plays perfectly 😄. A fun thought experiment but nothing more than that.

    This is true.

The game would be rather boring if everyone were perfect.

  • @squbax said:

Difference is survivors can realistically not get mindgamed with the use of checkspots, while killers aside from chucky cannot do this. Mindgames are only good if survivors have them awful NA checkspots. Chucky is the exception as he creates actual 50/50s where both sides get the same info, which is strong af because he is essentially the only killer that can trully mindgame even if survivors are good, that in of itself is a power, now add slice and dice, he is a beast.

Read that they aren't gonna get mindgamed then.

  • @H2H said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3614612#Comment_3614612

IMO it comes down to game design.

The vast majority of the killer cast is basically completely reliant on survivors making mistakes in order to get hits. Only very few, like nurse and maybe blight, can really proactively attack survivors. Everyone else has to wait for survivors to loop something badly, fall for a mindgame, run into a deadzone, etc. This is mitigated somewhat by bloodlust and the fact that killers are faster than survivors, but IMO in a scenario where survivors are playing perfectly, it will not be enough. Combine that with there being only 1 killer and 4 survivors, and the killers simply cannot be in enough places at once to apply enough pressure.

If survivors are playing perfectly, they never fall for mindgames. They always play loops completely perfectly at 100% efficiency and waste exactly as much of the killer's time as they can. They never drop a pallet too early or too late. They never run into a deadzone. They never accidentally bring the killer to a gen being repaired. They always leave a generator when they have to when a killer is coming and also never leave a generator too early out of too much caution. They never 3-gen themselves. They never waste time cleansing dull totems, opening chests, goofing around with event items. They never trigger any traps. They (almost) never get hit by any killer powers except when it's a literal guessing game.

In those scenarios, most of the killer cast can simply never do anything to catch up to survivors fast enough, even when they're also playing perfectly. The gens will be done very quickly, and anyone being chased will have have wasted the maximum amount of the killer's time. For most of the killers, it's just a sheer numbers game: 3 survivors cranking out gens as quickly as possible while 1 has the most perfect chase they can. Even if they drop chase with the 1 survivor who's looping them around the map, that survivor will instantly start repairing and another survivor instantly takes up the same perfect chase.

Do I think this scenario is likely to happen in real world game conditions? Absolutely not. Even comp teams don't play perfectly, though I think the fact that comp teams, playing under highly restricted conditions, can still force the killer into only 1k scenarios a lot of the time is getting close to what I'm talking about. But in the "everyone plays perfectly" hypothetical, survivors win and it's not even close.

I could be wrong about this, for sure. That's just my perception of it, but I'm just some ding dong on the internet. :P

You could also say the same about Killers playing perfectly

They NEVER get out mindgamed, they never lose Survivors. They never allow the 3-gen to break. Etc etc

  • I would recommend you not play Solo.

Use the LFG finder or use the DBD Discord to find some people to play with

Ok apologies but we're lost now. We've covered that in: "between all the factors (people dodging lobbies, trying to keep wait times short, perks and maps carrying ppl, etc)" and "For a survivor win streak (not SWF, just 1) they need to be able to rely on the team, the team needs to be better than the killer, and the survivor in question has be better than the killer (depending on rules in question) while also having an objective they can almost never do alone (ties into relying on team) in areas the killer knows you have to go. The killer needs to only really be better than the weakest link, have some intelligence, and relies solely on themselves to fill an objective with any method they can employ (of which there's a few). One side getting a win streak is much easier than the other." earlier that describes how the survivors would have a harder time with a win streak. We can't see anything else related that makes sense.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3614571#Comment_3614571

Unlikely does not mean impossible. At this point were going to assume that they're allowed unless you explicitly say no.

True but that RNG goes both ways though. Both killer and survivor can be screwed due to it, so lets say that they're good enough to overcome the RNG enough to win against their opponent (aka actually be better despite the odds every now and again).

I would find it extremely unlikely that they'd manage 2000 wins, whilst overcoming RNG, and their opponents without playing an overpowered character.

That's the only way a functional MMR system could excuse a 2K winstreak

Wouldn't call it competitive MMR, nothin competitive about it. Regardless of that thought, between all the factors (people dodging lobbies, trying to keep wait times short, perks and maps carrying ppl, etc) the MMR can't really do its job, or at least properly to a majority's satisfaction. Regardless of THAT thought, lets say for argument's sake that the killer genuinely was better than everyone they got matched with in a working MMR system, would they be "allowed" to get a win streak of 1000+?

If they were genuinely better, it's hard to say because of RNG.

You can be genuinely better than your opponents and lose because of RNG.

Don’t really think you can compare a game like siege to dbd. They are in totally different realms of balancing and play style.

They both use an MMR system to attempt to accurately guage skill.

One does so, vaguely successfully and the other, clearly, does not.

This all harkens back to DBD not choosing one way or another and pissing everyone off. They need to commit, are they a casual funny party game or a serious competitive game.

  • @Rulebreaker said:

May we ask what is good balancing to you? Our definition may differ.

At this point we're getting the feeling of "no matter if your better than the rest, have enough of a drive, and the skill to do it, eventually you MUST lose otherwise the game is imbalanced." and again we're going to question why?

Because the game uses a competitive MMR system.

Sure, in an old CoD you could run up huge winstreaks. However, in any game that has MMR, the ENTIRE point is to match people appropriately.

2000 winstreaks do not happen in Siege or OW.

  • @LordGlint said:

Keep in mind that in order to do a SWF winstreak, everyone has to log on. It's way easier to organize 1 person logging on for a killer streak than 4 ppl doing a survivor streak. Those super long streaks are counting anytime someone decides to play towards it for SEVERAL days. It's easier for 1 person to play alone for 500 matches than getting the same 4 ppl to play together for 200.

As for solo Q streaks/NON-4 man SWFs... you get 1 teammate who suicide 1 minute into match because they hate XYZ killer and you're basically guaranteed to lose.

    I mean, yeah that's true.

I THINK Oracle got beat, so even if you have all the players on, it's apparently much easier to lose as Survivor.

I know because of records. The world record in "modern DBD time" is at slightly above 200, done by Oracle if i am not mistaken. And their restriction were not nealy as harsh as the killer restrictions (for example it as okay if one survivor died per round in their streak).

That depends. Honestly, I don't think this tells us a whole lot more than: "The best players will stomp everyone else.", which is kind of a positive thing, if we want the game to be balanced.

Also, many of these killers are one trick ponies. They play one killer so much, that it's only natural that they will have an advantage. Survivors play against 34 different killers, while the killer can main one and get a lot more practice in comparison.

It tells us a lot of people are lying about these unbeatable SWF squads they claim to see every match.

Completely and utterly failed at seeing the point, and further proving my point. You cannot change those factors, and you do not know anything about the other players skill level, intentions, or thought process. This is true for EVERY multiplayer game that has even the tiniest inkling of being competitive. Sometimes you just get bad teammates or the other team was simply better than you. That in no way somehow means other players are responsible for your fun, YOU are.

You CAN control your outlook on the game and what you do. This is genuinely stuff we learn as children; you can still have fun and lose. If you want to be super negative and blame everyone else for you not having fun, then that's on you.

Even if you have the worst match ever where its objectively NOT FUN, (its a 3 genning skull merchant on midwich who's bleeding everyone out at 5 gens oh and all your teammates dc'd instantly), what is getting upset going to do? It's pixels on a screen that are moving in a way you don't like, and unlike in the real world, you have the ability to move your eyeballs in a different direction and completely eliminate the problem.

And you know what? In other video game communities, we laugh at people who complain about their teammates because more often than not, the ones complaining are the problem. In other communities, we acknowledge and understand that not everyone is at a high skill level and we cannot expect them to know the correct way to play, and the shitheads that shame newer or inexperienced players are ignored or reported.

I have fun via winning, improving or some sort of pyyhric victory.

None of these happen consistently. Even improving or doing well has little effect on the outcome of the match. Individual skill matters little for Survivors and it feels bad.

It is difficult to say you shouldn't blame bad teammates. On the one hand, they could be new and that is a terrible thing to place on a new player. On the other, having horrifically bad teammates is a consistent gripe and is demonstratably true.

  • @OwlWithMustache said:

It's insane how little accountability this community has. It can't possibly be that I played bad, its my team/the killer/the killer's perks/addons/offering/the map/the lag.

If that's your thought process then for the sake of yourself and the game, stop playing. As seen in the videos, this mindset makes you play poorly and worse it deludes (probably not a word) you into thinking you aren't playing poorly.

That's not even mentioning the nuance behind the playerbase; the reality is that most people playing dbd don't spend a ton of time on the forums(and more). How can I blame someone for not following made up rules that the community put in place? What right do I have to shame someone for not playing perfectly (unlike ME of course, I'M a god at the game).

If you're not enjoying the game that's fine, but that's strictly a YOU problem. Own that, don't blame other people because you're not having fun.

My apologies, I should've simply chosen my teammates, Killer and altered map geometry to suit my needs.

  • There are far too many variables to call it decisively one way or another.

The camp dance was flapping your arms really fast, usually never touching the hook. A slow self unhook, in my experience, was usually taken as ‘come get me’ or ‘I give up.’

Trickster wasn’t even camping though so I don’t see why you were warning them of camping anyway, especially when he was right next to all 3 of them. I can definitely see why Laurie may have taken that as a sign of you giving up but I still think it was a massive misplay on her part.

He was literally still in the vicinity and they were already coming towards me.

    All of them.

  • Maybe it's an old DBD thing but if you wave your arms like that (or faster) it meant the Killer was camping.

That's what I use it for.

  • I still have memories of the scream bug so I'm kinda glad I don't see her.

It’s a team game. If your teammates don’t pull their weight, you will lose. There is no solution because you can’t fix dumb teammates.

That one wasn't even on my teammates.

His perks afforded him so much extra time that it didn't matter that, for once, I did WELL in a chase.

Well, Laurie on the ground and you on second hook, PR is complete RNG and he still got POP for hooking you - much more advantageous than hooking Laurie for the first time.

And yes, no incentive will make people not tunnel the first guy out. I know, some people claim this, but as long as the gameplay loop doesn't change, no incentive will help. Dev's could incentivice people to do totems by making it worth thousands of BPs, people will still ignore them and cry about NOED. Incentives never work.

And the reason to tunnel you again... you were on death hook, nothing more to add. For the humping, maybe the player is just an ass, maybe a frustrated one.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3613072#Comment_3613072

Of course the game is not hard if you tunnel the first guy out against teams like shown in your clips.

That's why I practically stopped playing killer. I was one of those nice, "fair" killers, because I also played a lot of survivor. But the gameplay loop changed and I could either adapt by tunneling and camping or become he clown in most matches, getting teabagged at the exit gate with around 8 hooks and then trashtalked. So now I'm basically only playing killer for events, if even (and some games of Singularity here and there because they are just awesome ;) ).

This might sound a little bit philosophical now but, difficulty makes people want to become better, frustration turns people into jackasses. And current DBD is the best proof for this.

I am not saying I solely BLAME him for it, but to say it isn't partially his fault is incorrect.

It's like matching up 4 Solo's against a comp Blight. Is it a skill issue? Yes. It it their fault? Absolutely not.

Same in this case. Did he choose to play like an ass? Yes. Is he to blame entirely? No.

  • @I_Cant_Loop said:

What actions do you want the devs to take? Maybe I missed it in your other comments above, but I genuinely want to know what changes you would suggest to make the survivor experience better without making the game even more difficult for killer players than it already is.

We could get a bunch of killer players posting videos showing how broken coordinated SWF is or how broken many maps are with multiple connected safe loops that make it easy to extend chases to multiple minutes - should those be taken as proof that the devs need to nerf survivors?

I don't think the game is particularly hard for Killers.

    Frustrating? Sure, but not difficult.

C'mon, you have how many thousands of hours in this game?

Laurie served you on a silver platter, farmed like a big fat pumpkin.

Could he have let you go? Of course. But, you cannot expect the killer to play nice and stupid at the same time. This one is 100% your teams fault, mostly Laurie's. As soon as you got hooked, all three left their gens and ran towards the hook, even continued while getting chased.

For the other videos... yeah, getting tunneled sucks but this is sadly the state of the game now. Also, when will people stop healing under the hook with no healing boosts, especially now that you can see, the killer is not chasing anybody? When will people learn to not unhook in the first ten seconds. People play stupid and expect not getting punished for it.

I am well aware. He had a free down on Laurie and actually completely gave it up to chase and then hook me. She got up and reset with two other people.

He also had PR and PGTW, further proving that giving Killers gen regression for not tunneling won't work.

There also wasn't any reason to tunnel me after my next hook and hump me on the ground.

try running decisive strike. decisive strike is designed for tunneling-off hook. when a killer spots weak-link that is unable to loop than they're going tunnel because your easiest target to remove from the game. you were unable to loop pinhead effectively and trickster put your on that hook at 4 gens. The same thing happened with Chucky.

While Adrenaline is a meta perk that experienced survivors use, your inability to survive to end game. that perk is entirely dead slot for you because your not surviving to the end game to use it. I don't think Decisive strike will suddenly make you good at looping because it is not auto-win button anymore but it will give you more chances to learn looping. Distortion is a good perk for hiding but your getting found early in the game with the perk on meaning your not using the perk effectively. Lithe is good perk too but your not using it correctly to hold-w so it is not useful for you. Your barely extending chases with Lithe. What your better off running is Off the record and Made for This. With how much you get tunneled off hook, you'll easily proc OTR endurance for 3% haste and maybe looping will be easier when your 3% faster.

You need to assess your weaknesses, run DS/OTR/MFT until you improve at looping and than you might be able to play without these perks when you have acquired enough experience to not need hand-holding chase-aid perks.

MFT is garbage, I will not be running that, especially for me lol

DS is really bad, but 10 more seconds is 10 more seconds, I guess.

OTR isn't going to help because I'm usually getting hit off of, or near off of, hooks.

I'm just genuinely done. Even when I waste enough time, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if I improve, literally at all.

So survivor has to be asleep, even though add on doesn't say anything about that. I don't play a ton of Freddy so I guess I didn't know that.

    It does.

Why are you always making excuses? If you can't loop these killers then there is nothing BHVR can do for you. These killers are so bad too it's too funny to me.
