I have been referring a lot of people to a YouTube video by the name of “You’re responsible for your own fun” posted by Ken which is a detailed and soft spoken form of what I would waste minutes typing in regards to “tunneling” in this game. I hope you enjoy the video and I’m happy to continue the discussion piggybacking your feedback on said video. Have a good day
I'd rather hear it from you.

Assuming the killer hits you a 2nd time, sure. The lack of sound and aura reading can help to ditch a killer mid chase though. When I'm playing Chucky for example, I utilize aura reading addons alot for cheeky plays at jungle gyms. OTR is a great way to allow the survivor to just leave the jungle gym all together without me knowing.
Same goes for Spirit... Without sounds, you can outplay a Spirit alot easier than usual.
I'm not saying OTR should be nerfed or anything, just correcting the misconception that the perk turns off after 1 hit.
The important and helpful part turns off.
It's an anti-tunnel perk that works best when people don't tunnel.

Totally.
I'm just really salty these past days and I resort to basic tribalism when I am.
I keep being told to play fair, not do this or that, meanwhile all I get in return are survivors taunting me and not a single shred of mercy if I'm struggling.
Like, you can't expect sympathy if all you do is bully someone in return.
You can disregard whatever I say honestly it doesn't matter.
It's not something I'll condone, but it IS understandable.
At some point, we must all do what we find is right. I can't justify playing that way anymore against random people who've done nothing to me and I don't think others should either, but that's why it's an opinion. You don't need to share it.
It's also hard to show restraint as survivor, especially these days. It's really one mistake and you lose.

That uses up the endurance part, but the other parts remain.
Well, at least I'll be quiet and not be able to have my aura read while I'm back on the hook.

Actually, it isn't.
The room where Freddy abused Nancy and the other children was hidden, so that no one would find it. One of the reasons why Quentin thinks Freddy is innocent during the movie is because the parents of Springwood never found the room.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/9ZQF234CG11N/20240211142405-1.jpg
You can't actually go there in the game, but you can see it.
Having the bed so close to it is a little sus though and I don't think it's much of a stretch to assume that's what they were insinuating with their BM.
Not really something I'd put past the playerbase.

I am so fed up with the “base kit base kit base kit” Jesus can killers play the game? Tunneling is “bad” because it’s a taboo in the community but it is a valid strategy nonetheless. I thank goodness everyday that base kit unbreakable was dropped because that would’ve broke the game.
Tunneling is bad from a couple separate perspectives.
From a monetary standpoint, it doesn't make sense to allow and encourage a playstyle that removes agency and creates a miserable experience for your main monetary base.
From a design standpoint, it's extremely unbalanced on a casual level. The amount of skill you need to correctly counter tunneling, much less the amount of coordination required to make it a losing strategy, DWARFS the amount of skill required to successfully employ the strategy. That's bad design 101.
And from a player experience standpoint, it's extremely poor. You are ruining one players experience for no other purpose than an easy win that will handicap you later. Tunneling is something a lot of Killers, myself included, crutch on. It's not necessarily bad to crutch on things from time to time, but it can seriously hamper your development as a player. It will cause you to win much more often and easily than the rest of your skills would allow on their own and in turn, place you against better opponents who can and will abuse you for not being up to snuff.
This creates several different issues where Killer players believe themselves to be better than everyone else after winning so much and then they get destroyed by actually good teams. Hence we get complaints about survivor death squads, how unplayable Killer is etc etc. In reality, the teams were likely beatable and the player just isn't as good as they think they are.
All in all, tunneling is an issue and the game would be far better if it were functionally made irrelevant.
-
Isn't that the bed where freddy...you know.
Probably not reportable, but damn is it ######### disgusting.

Very strange survivors were asking for a DS buff at all when patch 6.1 or any patch that resulted in a nerf to DS were the best patches launched. Mind you we’re talking about the perk that enraged survivors leading them to cry on socials like twitter and mass uninstalling Dead by Daylight as a protest to restore their beloved perk that they can’t handle life without, I mean talk about a meta shake up right. And mind you that’s the same perk that once have let survivors activate it without being hooked at all causing killers to have to juggle them to hook and stuff like that. DS has had a wild run in this game we don’t need another round of that insanity.
DS should be buffed. It's a dead perk currently and Killers haven't ever tunneled more.
There needs to be a basekit punishment for tunneling.

Well, to be fair, you aren't getting any value from it when you get hooked again.

Crazy.
Anyways, hit them off hook and they get no value from the perk.

Gen perks are better overall than any other meta besides Eruption.

Hold on we have to clear something up. What is a safe vs unsafe pallet to you? Because I think you and I have different definitions of those.
Pallets that become less safe once the pallet is down are unsafe. Jungle Gyms, Shack and long loops with good LoS are safe even with the pallet down.
Rock loops, trash loops and etc aren't safe once the pallet drops.
Likewise, any loop where you need specific scenarios in order for it to be safe. For example, " The Killer has to be an M1."
General mindgameablity goes into it as well.
-
Place power at loop. Survivor must hold W or die, repeat until down.
Both of them also have very annoying audio. Dredge's Nightfall is a accessibility nightmare and Artist just doesn't stop with the high-pitched bird noises EVER

Well, that's very lucky then, I'm glad you've had a better experience than most.

depends on when you interrupt them.
anywhere from almost nothing to almost the time of 1 full heal.
Assuming a full heal, that's two people wasting that amount of time.
Same with duo'ing on a gen.
-
@Alice_pbg said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3646188#Comment_3646188
that is different because that is time invested, not time negated.
you can always optimize the time invested.
but you can not negate more time than the time that passed
If you interrupt two people healing with sloppy, how much time did they waste
-
@Alice_pbg said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3645364#Comment_3645364
25% of a duo gen is 24.5 seconds.
you can only negate time that actually passed. it will always be 24.5.
in an abstract way, yes. you wasted 24.5 seconds of each of the 2 survivors. but it's still 24.5 seconds total.
By that logic, CoH wasn't an issue but we all know it was.
Total time investment is more important.

Gideons is just super safe pallets everywhere, garden is super safe pallets, macmillan has some safe and little unsafe, autohaven has very little unsafe pallets when played correctly, haddonfield has safe pallets, badham SUPER safe pallets, borgo pallets are usually safe from the pure amount of junk you have to walk around, toba pallets are safe cause you can see the killer most of the time, nostromo is 50/50, cold wind is 50/50 and hawkins is mostly safe. When a competent player runs them (being competent in this game isnt hard) the pallets strength really shows.

Lol, well of course Hawkins has very few safe pallets at all. But again, except for Hawkins and Dead Dawg, I can't think of any map with a lot of unsafe pallets.
We found a lot of maps to have more unsafe pallets than safe pallets.
Some maps are different, like Garden or The Game. A lot of the Colwind, Mac or some Autohaven maps have more unsafe than safe.

What maps do you find to have mostly unsafe pallets? I can't think of many personally. A lot of maps have a mixture of stronger and weaker pallets, with a few maps having almost only safe pallets, like Eyrie of Crow or Gideon.
The maps I can think off spontaneously with mostly unsafe pallets are Hawkins and Dead Dawg Saloon.
Coincidentally, they listed Hawkins as having a lot of safe pallets.
As we all know, the upstairs pallet is basically a god pallet, so I figure they must've gotten confused in it's majesty.

What "unsafe" pallets? Half the pallets just allow you to see the killer 90% of the time. The only unsafe pallets i see nowadays is the two on either side of the reception area on RPD. Garden got a "rework" which didn't do anything at all except remove the ultra safe truck in front of the house for a still very safe pallet. The gas heaven rework just made the loops more chainable and made main building more accessible. Blood lodge got a little better and don't get me started on the 2nd varients of the macmillan maps. 4 potential i loop spawns on Iron Works 2 alone.
If you can't see that most pallets are unsafe, I can't really help you, I'm gonna be honest.

Alright, well, pretty sure that's just wrong. How dare Solo Survivors get a buff.

I personally didn't encounter that once.
But to answer your question? Because without gen defense, the gens go even faster in that mode. Try playing against a SWF with coms on that mode and tell me how it goes.
I'd also bet more truthfully, that the MMR for this mode is much more wonky, leading to matches being more wild in that regard.
You didn't encounter ANY camping or tunneling? Really? At all?

Thank you, How does the anti face camp and 3 gen mechanics work? is the visual terror radius on by default?
If you're within 16m of a hook, anti-facecamp activates. It is a bar that slowly fills and allows the Survivor to unhook themselves. This effect is disabled when there's another Survivor around and during the EGC. It also takes a moment to take effect.
3-gen is largely irrelevant except for DM or hardcore 3-genners. It does make Surge worse though.
Each gen can have 8 regression events. Missed skillchecks or automatic regression (Ruin) don't count. Gen kicks now automatically do 5% and the Survivors need to repair that 5% to stop the regression. After 8 events, the gen cannot be kicked or regressed anymore.

that is not how math works...
I'm afraid it is, roughly, how it works.
It's why it's less effective to duo. You are committing double the time and as PR is a flat 25%, you've made fhe Survivors actions doubly inefficient.
It's also why CoH was so strong. Healing yourself in 16 seconds is more effective than having someone else heal you, where the total time investment is 32 seconds, 16 from each player.

Video is a bit older but it has been made after the healing nerf and iirc a bit before pt and bnp slighty nerf ( or around that time anyway )
So yeah, it is possibile to do a gen in 25 seconds and heal in 6 seconds
This video is ancient and no longer accurate.
You have to have multiple people with specific builds to pull either of those off. Completely unrealistic in any real game.
C3 is right, all of those things make Killer much easier to play, objectively speaking.
And then Rulebreaker is correct, NONE of that is possible in public games.

Ironically camping and tunneling are the even more required in this mode because survivors usually run around with items and you as a killer have no information or generator defense perks.
Try playing against survivors who are on voice chat, have a map and 3 toolboxes and you will realize it's almost unplayable without tunneling someone asap. On average matches, you will be dealing with toolboxes, maps and medkits 24 / 7 because there are much more chests around and survivors don't have to worry about losing items.
This is one of those times where I'm gonna be an ######### and say that this is so wrong it doesn't even warrant a serious response.
-
We wait almost 8 years for a new gamemode and this is it?
My disappointment is profound.
I can only hope they went very conservative as a test run and that they'll go bigger next time because the VAST majority of feedback I've seen has been negative.
Likewise, I hope they release kill and hook rates, just so we can see who is better basekit
-
I am glad you are having a good time.
I don't think there's gonna be any Survivors playing by the end unfortunately
-
@mikewelk said:
I don't even wanna try it out. I get teammates that run right into the killer when the map is slightly dark.
It's not even the team so much as the opponent for me.
-
It's been extremely disappointing for me.
I did expect it to happen, but I was hoping the camping and tunneling would come on Day 2, not immediately.
Not exactly a fun experience as Survivor, I'm sure it's great on a lot of Killers.
It just absolutely destroys any opportunity to play outside of a 4-man. You need the coordination to have information and you also need to stop the inevitable tunnel out.
-
I was expecting more.
That's on me, I should've kept my expectations down; hopefully this is a conservative test run and they'll go big next time around
-
I'd rather they not.
The mode is absolutely horrible for a large portion of the playerbase and doesn't even work with all the Killers.

I wouldn’t call it proxy camping per se when survivors don’t even give you the chance to leave the hook.
You’d think it’d go the other way with smaller maps, you don’t need to rush the hook as you don’t have to run that far to save.
Whatever it is though I feel like the impatience level is much higher than it used to be and that leads to bad decisions on both sides.
I can’t really blame an opponent for leveraging my bad decision to their advantage. Even if it means I or a team mate are eliminated early, I mean that’s the killer goal after all.
I’m not saying all “tunneling” etc is the fault of survivors but I can identify the opportunity to apply it as a tactic effectively and the situation to do so arises far more frequently lately than my previous game experience.
I think it's more that Survivors have learned to not allow the Killer time to position themselves properly.
Better to rush in than to allow the Killer to camp multiple objectives. If they don't give you time to identify that, then it's better for them.
-
It will be interesting to see.

@pseudechis said:

And yet the game is still here going strong.
"Tunneling" didn't kill the game before and won't kill it now.
Maybe its the smaller maps but I remember a time when I could walk more than 2 steps away from a hook before some survivor rushed in to make a save.
Maybe built in BT just makes people think that unsafe unhooks are the norm?
Do players just double down on the ol "survivor rule book" and expect a killer to only chase the rescuers even when practical logic says it's the worse of 2 choices. I don't know but I feel like pre MMR days players just more commonly made better decisions than they do now.
I don't find as survivor that I get "tunneled" or "camped" that often but I also try to make smart choices that don't give the killer the opportunity to do so.
That's actually a good point about the rise of proxy camping.
Maps being smaller increased 3-gen placements. It also made everything more condensed, allowing Killers to proxy better which in turn, led to survivors feeling like they needed to unhook quickly.
Used to be you couldn't hold gens and a hook, because maps were too big for that. Now you can do both.
-
It's been about the same since I got here.

For a small example. Do you expect survivors to consider their opponent's fun or change their gameplay to do so?
I see fairly constant threads about gen rushing, so yes, that does seem to be a constant standard.

I find that it differs a lot on which servers you play.
EU servers are full of toxic people, who will go through the trouble of adding you on steam just to insult you, your family and so on, some will even get their friends in on it and mass spam you. I've also been doxxed, targeted by a player (turned out to be a cheater).
When I play on NA servers it's like playing on cruise-control, people are chill and know that it's JUST a game.
You'll be fine if you play on Epic Games or Console, there is no chat, and you don't have a profile, so people can't harass you.
I don't know about EGS but on Console you literally do have a profile and it's even easier to harrass and knock people offline.
