They basically just kept trading hooks, until the two DC'd.

Well, maybe ps4, ps5 runs as good as pc
Most people don't have the PS5 or Series S/X.
Most people can't afford to pay $1000 to buy one and most people don't want to scour the face of the earth looking for one.

You have cross play off which yeah I get it’s really annoying it takes that long to find a match. But with it on it would be instant. Double edge sword there my friend. Do you want a match instantly against PC players, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch? Or wait forever for your home station only to get potatoes that d/c to the slightest inconvenience?
If I were on the Series X or Series S, I would turn it on.
But I am at a massive disadvantage since I'm on the One X.

On the bright side, my NOED stats are being boosted to the stratosphere.

Or when a Boon is blessed.

Survivor control the lenght of the match if they do 2 gen first minute the game have the potentiel to end in 3 minute. Survivor are in control of the chase unless its a nurse.
The only thing the killer control is if he kill someone when he is on hook but even then only a small portion of killer control that.
So saying survivor dont have time to chase bones i believe is false. If survivor want they can finish all gen in 20 minute whitout interacting with the killer. Its the killer that is on a time limit and that time limit change every match depending on the survivor.
That's an incredibly silly statement.

I remember my first DBD game too.
Christmas of 2018. I was playing as a level 1 baby Claudette against a Huntress, on old Azarov's Resting Place.
From that day until July of 2019, DBD provided me with a level of enjoyment no other game could (and never will). The reworks and unnecessary changes killed this game bit by bit for me, and now those precious memories are all that I have left.
So, my friend, when you say that DBD doesn't feel like it used to and now it makes you sad, know that I sincerely understand how you are feeling :)
Huh. I always thought you had been playing longer than me.

I assume your experiment is also taking into account what the impact of NOED is after it procs, in a more nuanced way than just counting the kills?
I ask because I've been slapping NOED onto my builds as killer recently to see how much value I get out of it, and very consistently I only get one down with it. There was even a very interesting outlier game where a four-man escape turned into a 4k after NOED activated, but NOED had nothing to do with it- they all just stepped in bear traps after the last generator was completed. A game like that would throw off the stats if you only look at kills.
For the Killer part of the challenge, yes, I am recording what impact it had.
The Survivor part is just seeing how often all 5 totems are cleansed in a match, even with me looking for them and running Small Game. It's not a lot.

On no. I hope this doesn't go like the rest of these threads have.

Cant suggest NOED because swf is smart to do totems, well least my SWF we rush totems before a single gen.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/296547/whats-the-best-build-to-go-against-swf-groups
If they add voice chat so you can communicate with randumbs via solo que, maybe there would not be lesser swf, swf will always have some kinda way to ruin any good killer build or ideas or at least make it very tough to win. Expose build may work , make your choice/iron maiden/star struck and that perk whispers I think its called !? that alerts you if they are near any crows. Tinkerer is very deadly as soon as a gen is 70% you get a huge notification making killers who can tele/road runner race a map quite a threat.
At least 70 seconds off of gens tho.

The answer - and what I hope will happen - is that high MMR now placing a lot of attention on the longstanding massive balance issues in the game will make the devs adjust killers so that there's more variety at the high end and that everyone can have more fun.
High MMR does tend towards a more 'set' meta and does play out sweatier than more intermediate levels.
I really hope that we can reach a place where new/intermediate/veteran players can all enjoy this game without it coming down to a Hobson's Choice.
Yes, I'd rather like to avoid a all-or-nothing scenario as well.
However, the Devs have known about these balance issues for years. They simply said that they aren't interested in fixing them. Now, that could have changed, but I doubt it.
Unfortunately, much like Hobson's Choice, they really don't get a choice. They either have to address high-level issues or the MMR system ends up not matching people with who they should be matched against.

Corrupt, PGTW, No Way Out and NOED.

I don't think it will. While it would be a pity to lose you veterans (you particularly strike me as a decent bloke), if we were to go back to the misery that ranks were for me, I'd probably have to leave. I just can't go back to the stomps, the smurfs and just being miserable struggling to do anything in more than half my games because killers don't have matchmaking protections and even Fog Whisperers are deranking to stomp (which happened under the old system).
And I'm really getting into this game now.
Well, I understand that, and that's probably why BHVR hasn't reverted it.
You lot are the future of the game, and it really only matters if you guys are having fun. If you manage to stick around for as long as some of us have, you'll see it too.
I'm simply seeing a disastrous possibility ahead of us. If we do not address the issues at high MMR, a trickle-down effect will start that will affect all of us.

Ideally, people will come up to replace them.
Again, I don't think the right way to do this is just to give high MMR folks carte blanche to buttstomp lesser skilled folks constantly. As much fun as they were, those '100 game streak' videos might have to be a thing of the past, for the good of the future.
Ideally, sure.
But those people have been playing for thousands of hours. They have experience and talent. You can't just replicate that overnight.
Realistically, you might replace half of them. 83% of the game's players have never made it past Silver I (Rank 10) on Survivor. Less than 10 PERCENT have ever made it to Silver I (Rank 10) on Killer.
If something isn't done about the high-ranked situation, there won't be a point to MMR at all. It will literally be the same system.

There is perceived toxicity and there is actual toxicity.
I would say perceived comes from the things that this post describes:
540 votes and 105 comments so far on RedditAnd because of real toxicity (getting told to kill myself day in and day out for months and being DDoS'd too many times) I've made my profile private on Xbox.

@StarLost said:
Title is a bit clumsy, but you get my point.
The crux of the SBMM debate essentially boils down to the following:
Before the change, high MMR people would face a much wider variety of opponents, most of them much less skilled. It's what made those amazing 50-100 wins in a row 'streak' videos possible. This allowed them to engage in a lot more meme games and to play around with different builds while still being able to do well - albeit at the expense of lower MMR folks.
Now they face generally more skilled opponents, resulting in high MMR matches being 'sweaty' and a lot more restrictive (as is the nature of high MMR play). It also makes balance issues far more apparent and they are more likely to encounter hackers.
It's also far less easy to smurf, as 'deranking' was a pretty quick and easy process but 'shedding MMR' takes a lot longer.
This all understandably leads to burnout and frustration.
However, this also means that those lower MMR folks get significantly more fair matches, as they aren't constantly being thrown to the wolves.
This is something of a problem. I'm not sure what the solution is, aside from balancing and reworking problematic aspects of the game.
Can you think of a way to make the game more enjoyable at high MMR while keeping the benefits of SBMM (fairer matches for new/intermediate players)?
The issue is that as higher-skilled players get burnt out (which I think we can agree that high-ranked Killers will be burnt out first), less skilled players get thrown to the higher-skilled Survivors because there aren't enough high-skilled Killers....that's the exact same system that we had before.
-
I'm literally doing a two-part experiment right now.
Survivor teams simply do not have time to cleanse all 5 totems and they shouldn't if MMR does its job.
I think I've recorded over 50 games so far.
-
Why hast thou summoned me?

I'd heard that crossplay off affects queue times, but that's pretty dramatic. I wouldn't have guessed there would be that big of a disparity. Waiting that long for a game on either end is longer than I'd want to do.
I'm on console but with crossplay on. Killer queues for me are virtually instantaneous anytime between around 5:30 PM CT NA region through around 2-3 AM. I've started keeping track of personal stats for my games as part of my own analysis, and queue times for survivor for me is averaging around 4-5 minutes in those same times. During the early morning and the day, survivors queues are usually quicker than killer, however. I've heard it's different on the EU servers, though.
I really have no idea what the difference is. I had Crossplay on once when it was first implemented, it's been off forever.
I'm in EST, maybe MMR has something to do with it, idk.

You either play unsociable hours, or you're lying.
Or I play with Crossplay off.
I usually play at around 10 PM. Survivor queues sometimes are instant, sometimes way longer. Killer queues are sometimes as short as 10 minutes, my record since MMR went live is over 2 hours, that was at 4 AM though. Average is around 15-20 minutes from 10 PM onwards.
Appreciate the vote of confidence tho.
-
@Waterfall said:
I don’t think you understand survivor queues getting longer means less killers are playing not less survivors. Long survivor queues=Killer shortage and Long killer queues=survivor shortage.
I get 5 minute Survivor queues and 20 minute Killer queues.

It's because after they won they're feeling validated and that gg validates them further. After they lose they're feeling inadequate and defensive somehow and the gg feels like condescension, pity, or a platitude.
People who have a strong negative reaction to being told gg are emotional infants. If it was a competitive match, it's just good sportsmanship.
I think another place people get things twisted is assuming that if they lost they played poorly, and if they won, they played well. Unless you are competing at the top of the food chain, you probably screw up a lot even when you win. And you can play a good game and still lose. And sometimes your best isn't going to be as good as your opponent's best, and you'll lose, and you'll have to accept that. Be gracious in defeat as well as victory.
That said, saying gg after you steamroll someone will probably come off as insincere and condescending, so maybe go with something else, or nothing at all.
I got harassed enough that I turned off my messages
