The fact people are even arguing is ridiculous.
"This has caused me harm"
"Ok, but it doesn't cause ME harm therefore it is fine"
It's a stupid skin which would cause 0 harm for it to be removed, whereas with it still in the game it is still being used to target black people.
Do you think that removing it will decrease the amount POC are targeted by...unsavory members of the community?

Thats what I think I don't understand. People asking for it to be removed it seems are doing so to avoid being hurt and reminded of pretty distasteful part of history (and present), and even perhaps their own experiencesof discrimination. I am not having a go at those wanting it to stay. I'm saying I don't understand what principle would override that, given we are taking about a video game cosmetic
If I were to hazard a guess, I would say it's the principle of not removing something that isn't really causing issues for the vast majority of players AND because removing it isn't going to actually help them in any way.
It would just be removing it because "they" said to remove it. Plus, I don't even think it actually counts, considering the literal definition of blackface.

This is the whole crux of the debate to me.
It's not about stopping people being racist (and definitely not about accusing people who use it of being), because it's removal won't do that.
It is about whether the understandable emotional hurt it can cause, and seems to have caused, because of the historical context of blackface (yes I know Bubba isn't racist blah blah) and the insensitivity of it, warrants it's removal. I'm starting to lean that way, as I'm struggling to understand why anyone would fight so passionately against removing, given what has been outlined.
If I weren't afraid of my own race being drawn into it, I'd say that people fight against it based on the principle.

Same here. I have 2,3k hours and my friend has 1,5k and we got paired with two survivors with less than 50 hours in the game against a 800 hours killer.
I just...do not understand it. It confounds me.

Yeah I get your frustration. The DH hit validation has been kicking my butt lol.
It's just, when I see a Survivor play a pallet perfectly, part of me thinks "Oh good! A challenge." The other part thinks, "Oh, great, I've got to sweat my nuts off for a 1K and only if they misplay."

Perhaps changing the cosmetic won't help, although it removes a tool that people use to be overtly racist. Also a number of POC streamers have expressed a desire for it to be changed. I'm just relaying the information here.
I see, I'll try my best to not shoot the messenger then.
I simply do not see the point if removing it does nothing to actually prevent people from targeting POC. Perhaps I'm being too logical and am not considering the emotional aspect of it.

playing against survivors.
So playing as Killer?
Well, not being able to chase Survivors without multiple gens popping is very unfun. Chases are where I get to show my skill.
Seeing my hits revoked is pretty unfortunate and unfun too.
Seeing Survivors who live to BM is pretty gross. Idk, I could go on and on about either side tbh

I've already addressed these in previous comments.
But since you've asked, possible adjustments:
- Change the cosmetic so Leatherface's skin isn't darker underneath the mask.
- Or change the cosmetics so the Leatherface wears other aspect's of the survivors (e.g. Claudette's apron or glasses, Dwight's glasses etc).
Why it needs adjusted:
- The cosmetic is being used to harass and target black content creators/players playing as POC characters due to its resemblance to blackface.
I think the first change is likely the best. There's no reason for such heavy shading underneath the mask.
I don't see the changing of the cosmetic affecting the rate at which POC streamers are being harassed. If anything, it will likely make it worse for a time, then it will return to it's normal levels. I simply don't see the point for something that will not have a net gain.

Yes because glasses do not have the same history or connotations as blackface????
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2655580#Comment_2655580
Politely, read all of my comments beforehand. Because I've said a number of times I'm not for outright removal of the cosmetic, but rather adjustment to make it less obviously blackface.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2655582#Comment_2655582
Except my narrative has NEVER been remove. I've not once said we should just remove it and exclude Claudette. I said it should be adjusted. If you're going to keep making up my points for me you might as well argue with yourself.
What would your adjustment be and why does it need adjusting?

Yes. And while we're at it, fix the tool enabling the racism.
You're STARING the point in the face and somehow not getting it.
Apologies, I haven't seen all of your comments.

Ah, I don't mind sharing mine.
I love the cosmetic and I don't want to see it removed.
My opinion alone is not enough to change anything, but it seems to be the absolute majority here, so maybe there is a chance.
Maybe.
Regardless, a lot of people in this thread are acting very poorly. A shame we can't discuss things without attacking one another or using one's race as a point of argument, don't you think?

I don't really want to share my opinion because I'm afraid someone will make it about my skin color.

One question: will the removal of said cosmetic stop the people, that are targeting streamers of color? Or will they continue to harras them even more because they actually managed to have such a big impact?

The ranks/emblems aren't indicative if you're good/bad to the game though, they just show if you play a lot or not.
You probably aren't Iri 1 if you suck.
Likewise, you probably aren't playing enough to get to Iri 1 if you are bad.

What is normal game to you?
Depends on what you are defining normal as.
If you are defining it as "what I experience most often in my matches" then normal is taking one chase and watching 2-3 gens pop.
If you are talking about what normal should be, then normal should be being able to enjoy the most fun, engaging and skillful part of the game (chases) without having to think "I've been chasing this Survivor for 25 seconds, their gonna pop 2 or more gens on me, then I'll have to camp or tunnel someone out."

Killers were used to 4k with old mmr. I expect all of these child killer abandon the game and new best and less cry killer players will arrive.
That's a very naïve point of view, imo.

Fun is what you make of it (within reasonable parameters). The game provides you an experience. If that experience is no longer fun, or the way you play is no longer fun - change the way you play or stop playing. I'm not trying to sound mean, but you can't expect people to make you have fun.
I see what you're saying.
However, I just want to be able to play and enjoy the game normally. How I used to, when I wasn't good. 10-15 minute trials with fast queue's. Now, I get 20 minute queue's and 5 minute matches. Almost everyone agrees that chasing is the best part about the game. I literally can't chase people without throwing the match.
And to top it off, the second I do lose, I get tossed against Survivors who have half as much time as me COMBINED and I stomp them, and guess who I get to play again? That's right, the team I just lost to.
The game needs some serious changes at the high level. Because of MMR, the Devs can't ignore it anymore.

@Zozzy said:
A killer playing the entire game with only 3 perks for a chance to trigger noed isn't fair to you? A perk that can be removed from the game before and after it activates.
Man, survivors really do want their cake served on a silver platter and to eat it too.
How do you explain me then?
You know I main Killer lmao

@Suzzys_Secretary said:
You may want to define when fun is achieved for you? Was it fun when playing killer as 4k+ Hours vs 4x survivors with 100-500 hours playtime opponents? What sbmm has achieved and mentioned by the devs in their Q&A was to prevent the stomp games. As you said yourself you have to lower your mmr in order to get stressfree matches. So what is fun then? This is a highly subjective topic so i would love to hear your definition of what fun is. This might help the devs understand rather than "Make the game fun for me".
The gameplay loop at high MMR is not engaging or fun.
Tunneling and camping isn't skillful. Neither is rushing through gens.
BHVR hasn't shown that they are even CONSIDERING any changes, so I just wanted to see if they might have something in the works.
-
Also, look at this great system.
I've played a lot of Survivor since MMR came out. I was playing with my friend who has well over 100 days. Here's what our teammates had.
This was Meg's first game.
Dwight is slightly more experienced. Still, 1K hour Killer, 2K hour Survivor, 3K hour Survivor and then 13 hours between the last two.

If it stressful you should probably change your win condition. For example get 4 stacks of BBQ and over 25k bp. It doesn't mean you should not aim to 4k. Just make killing survivors your secondary objective.
If you not having fun for securing kills by slugging/camping/tunneling, you should probably look for fun in chases and interesting ways to play killer. Like crossmap hatchets as Huntress or distant Victor pounces as Twins. Try M2 only Hillbilly or M2 only Nemesis. You can find guilty pleasure in securing head pop as Pig. Some killers have game changing addons that open different side of gameplay.
I mean you can find your own Fun in game.
None of that is fun to me.
Why is it too much to ask to be able to play a normal game and have fun?

Did I get it right? You lose against good players. And you keep playing against good players over and over. And your MMR not going down to comfortable niche with equal opponents.
Somewhat.
These people are closest to me in skill. The issue is that the tactics I use and the way I play is extremely stressful and draining and most certainly unfun.
I'd be cool with playing at high MMR if they, idk, made it fun?
-
@kaeru said:
MMR is invisible number. How do you all define your MMR as high or low?
It's not hard to tell if players are good.

Turn it off.

I mean it sounds like you want your build to stomp people at the top level.
Also your games should theoretically revolve around you doing decent a few, having a good few, and you getting beat. You wouldn't necessarily stomp everyone once you got low enough.
Please, read my post again and tell me where I say anything about winning.
There is victory in loss if I can find something to learn. Winning isn't the issue. Enjoyment of the match is.
And, at the risk of sounding like an arrogant ass, I would stomp 99% of players if my MMR were lower.
-
@selflessnea said:
I mean you can technically play fun builds. All while lowering your overall mmr allowing your fun builds to actually be viable.
It'll take like, 30 matches to lower my MMR a considerable amount.
And even then, I'll be stomping people, which isn't fun either.
In short, your proposal is only masking the issue.
-
@IronKnight55 said:
Not really sure anything can be done. Most people probably aren't even playing at high MMR. This would make the game even more unfun.
A common misconception. Changes to make higher-MMR gameplay better does not mean that lower-MMR gameplay will be worse.
For example, look at Blight and Dead Hard. At lower-level MMR, they aren't great because you need to put time into using them and time into the game. The Jake that DH's into a wall isn't really getting any value from his perk. The Blight who can't properly turn around objects also isn't getting value. However, both of those things are great at high MMR.
-
@FreshCoal said:
I think a good thing to add to the game is to reduce the time it takes to m1 a generator but survivors have to run around the map and search for gas cans before they can start repairing the generators. The game is a lot more fun if you are running around and doing things instead of holding the m1 button.
Yeah.
I guess I'm just tired of taking one chase as a Killer and seeing 3 gens pop. I'm also tired of seeing the same 3-4 teams for most of the night.
I'm also tired of seeing facecamping Bubba's, hard-tunneling Killers and people who target me when I play Survivor. Like, I get it, you need to camp and tunnel as Killer when Survivors are good. Trust me, I get it. It sure isn't fun though.
I just need to know if the team plans to do anything about higher-level play in the near future.

It would be so fun if it didn't have so many restrictions.

Killers cant tell who is and who isnt soloq. All it takes is one good team and gens are done before you can get a kill unless youre playing blight or nurse. NOED is a killer's second chance perk. In a game where one team has so many second chance perks, and the other team has one viable one that everyone considers to be a noob perk or an op perk. Double standards are RAMPANT in this community
The odds of you playing against Solo Q survivors versus playing against a good SWF is extremely high.

Noed is a perk that rewards killers massively for ignoring gens. It isn't fair in every way BUT killers, especially in my server where everyone is annoying and toxic, have to deal with 4DS 4DH 4 UNBREAKABLES, IRONWILL BT SPINECHILL ETC. very often. It's 4 perks and a kit vs 16 perks plus 4 items.
So honestly, yes, NOED's effect is unfair, but until the killers' life gets slightly easier, NOED should stay the same.
Hmmmm.
I suppose I can agree to that, but I'm afraid that day will not ever come.

Agreed we should end the debate. Anyone who uses the "whataboutery" argument has already lost.
It is irrelevant what I think about Pig and OOO (be happy to talk about those separately) My opinion on NOED (the source of the discussion) remains, based on my experiences, and stats provided, are it is fine.
The reason for my buff idea was a counter to how survivor sided the game is atm.
I enjoyed that debate. Sorry you feel the need to end it because we disagree.
That is not why I ended it.

@Tsulan said:

The surprising part is, i woulnd´t advise killers to use NOED. Because i find that it skews with the kill rate data the devs rely on.
But i understand when killers use it. As of right now, gens are going incredible fast. In most of my survivor matches, 2 or 3 gens are done by the time the killer gets his first hook. To put this in perspective. Thats like starting the match with 1 less survivor.
Refusing to do bones and then complain about NOED is the exact same reason why Undying was nerfed. Which in hinsight, was a mistake.
Is it annoying when the teammates don´t do anything? Sure! Especially when you equip Bond, you´ll marble at your teammates that sit afk in a corner. But i don´t ask for killer nerfs, just because i have bad teammates.
I'm taking more stats like I said.
Maybe I'll equip NOED on my Killer's and record how often it activates. Would you be interested in seeing that?
