This loop isnt NEARLY as bad as it use to be. I use to groan anytime I saw this or ironworks but now... I'm pretty confident with just about any map I get (besides haddonfield...fck haddonfield, lol).
Tbf, I think Springwood 1, 4 and (iirc) 5 aren't that far off from Haddonfield-esque levels of imbalance.

I know some survivor mains who likes to play against Spirit.
It's more so the mentality of people who won't learn to play against certain killers that are completely biased.

Yeah, that's just quitter's tallk
"There's nothing I can do with a good player."
Then get better. Unless you're admitting you're at the ceiling of your skill and because you keep losing to these specific killers, you're not willling to try to get any better and rather see those killers nerfed.
Please, provide instructions on how to counter a Spirit in order to prove your point. I've played as her at rank 1 when I prestiged. So, I figure I have a good understanding on how to play as her when versing red rank squads.
I'm genuinely curious to hear what you think there's to learn, because I've heard the 'learn/adapt' argument being used liberally by both sides on a variety of topics. However, to this day, I've yet to hear anybody give an effective advice on how to counter a Spirit in a chase, or at least a Spirit who passes the sound check.

I suggest you lay down DbD for a bit. You're here complaining about a bad game somehow addressing directly the people you versed who aren't even on this board. You're burnt out. Take some rest.

Hopefully, not for the stealth part. It's not easy to integrate stealth in this game in a healthy way.

Players get annoyed at the most random things, some very basic. One of the harshest reactions I got was against an Adam who was actually very decent. I had him injured. He greeded a pallet and while LoS was blocked he popped an insta heal. He ran back into me and stood still bating the swing. I thought it was a styptic when I saw the medkit disappeared. I counted to 10 and bodyblocked the pallet when he panicked, then I downed him. Then, after being unhooked, he came back and slow vaulted a window in my face while I was chasing someone else. I waited for the animation to end and I swung through the window, slugging him. It was a DS play. The chat of that match was heated, to say the least.

Basically every time I play spirit. Survivors can't handle someone that outsmart them so they give up. As a survivor I loop d a ghostface for 3 gens and a gate, resulting in me barely escaping because of hatch. The killer started accusing me of hacks and blamed the genspeed. Guess what, I didn't get banned for hacks because I obviously didn't have hacks. It's spine chill resilience that carries m8
Spirit's power works based on tracking, not outsmarting.
-
There's no need for this and it would get very complicated to balance, because it would be difficult to tell when they're playing strategically and when they're not, or if they're simply boosted. When they hide it can be annoying, but they really can't hide for long even without touching the gens. Look and listen for clues. In 1k hours I've never had anyone hide more than 5 minutes in the worst of case, that I can count on one hand. Also, if you want a MGC for these situations, you'd also have to penalize killers who force a 3 gen and never commit to chase after that.

Say what you will. We both know that the devs dont see the hitbox individually as an issue. Yes latency plays effect too but shouldnt that be better than it is? Like I dont expect a perfect server but I'm sure there can be improvements made so that a survivor cant be hit on the other side of a window already running away with lithe. Getting hit on the other side of pallets. And the fact crossplay was even considered this last while really shows they're in over their depth. It's not seen as a concerning/ relevant issue so it wont be changed.
I've even made a shot with Deathslinger and Huntress on the saloon map. I had one of my friends foot appear in a little crack in the wall. Both projectiles connected. Yes, Deathslinger can hit through bullshit. Tested him on Hawkins and a survivor that couldnt be seen behind barrels got hit by me. All you can see was the chain centering through several walls and barrels and the survivor just standing up. Those targets were standing still, so no latency issue there.
For the Deathslinger, the spear is automatically connected to chest in the animation, regardless of where it landed (similar to bear traps, which always connect to the right ankle). That's why it can give the impression of shooting through walls. However, it's very true the hitbox sticks out far from the model, so you can actually hit someone without seeing them AND then the spears is redirected to the chest giving the impression of a wallbang.
You can also spear through many cracks in the shack and manage to drag them to the window to m1.
Hitboxes are definitely an issue, it's not only latency.

'Guarantees' is a bit strong, because there's no guaranteed autowin. However, there are builds that will give you a 4k unless you're beyond help as a killer. I won't mention builds that are map reliant.
Wraith with Blood Windstorm and Swift Hunt. Sloppy, Nurses and whatever else you like, BBQ and Pop being classics.
Billy with Insta saw or CrackBilly (the latter requires some proficiency though). Equip BBQ and Infectious, then choose from Ruin, Corrupt, Bamboozle, Enduring+Skill Fury, Discordance, Surveillance, Whispers, even Monitor and Knockout, although KO is meh against SWF.
Huntress would obviously use Iri Head with Infantry Belt. I'd suggest Corrupt and BBQ as well, but Whispers works very well too.
Myers with Fragrant and Memorial. Corrupt, Infectious and then anything from Bamboozle, Enduring, Skill Fury, Brutal, Monitor. You can also go Fragrant + Journal and use PWYF + Nemesis, but I think it's weaker.
Hag (I would be careful with flashlights in the lobby, though) with Rag and Shackles. Make Your Choice, Corrupt, Monitor and the last is up to you. Devour works well.
Forever Freddy is a classic, I don't think I need to explain it.
Forever Plague is also surprisingly strong. In essence, stack slowdown perks. Puke just to infect them, get a pallet out of the way and m1 as a bonus, don't commit early and force a 3 gen. The survivors will kill themselves.
Any of the above can be used with Noed and an Ebony or a map offering for minimum effort required.
-
Anything with Hag.

I hate all the Nurse's bugs since the hotfix.
I love Mikey's stalk working better.

It's stupid that we even have to lobby dodge. The killer is running from survivors basically. If that's not a sign of the power imbalance in this game, I don't know what is.
It's just a sign of looking for easy wins. If survivors could see the killer, they'd dodge as well, it wouldn't mean it was a sign of power imbalance.

I'm a killer main, but I think I can offer a meaningful contribution.
1) It depends on time of the day. Late afternoon and after, it's usually red ranks. Before that, you can see purple and in the mornings it's the absolute worst, with rainbow ranks.
2) I don't actively try to rank up, even though I usually make it to rank 1, especially with new rank reset. I can tell you that at rank 1 and 2, if you play in the time window I mentioned, you can get decent teammates, at least on PC EU. Rank 3 and especially 4, it's a gamble, because you get a lot of potatoes who basically bounce up and down red and purple ranks.

Are those who have a 4:3 monitor using an unfair advanrage too? Because they have stretched fov as native.

The only deadzones I've found are the walls of the map. If you run the plaid you'll realize it's pretty easy to replicate blinking in place anywhere at anytime by angling your screen down a little. I think it's from the blink trying to find a floor bellow the map that doesn't exist when angled down too far so it blinks in place. It is something you can do on accident because you are much higher up than the survivors so you'll be angled slightly down just to look at them most of the time. Drift down just a little more and bam, stationary blink and every map feels like it has deadzones. Some areas the angle is not far down at all for some reason so it's definitely something to keep in mind. I've also found some objects blink obstruction is thicker than the model, sometimes by a lot so it could be throwing off muscle memory blinks.
After the patch, there are many deadzones right now, especially the main buildings of certain maps. Plaid flannel will highlight them as well.
-
Yes for the camp.

No.
Because characters or cosmetics have a dubious correlation with toxicity, giving me no reason in and by themselves to tunnel someone.
-
I can confirm this issue.
-
I don't think it's a change in strategy. This has always been commonplace, at least in the red ranks.
-
Freddy and Hag, to play as or against. There are others that come close, though.

The FOV is stuck in the past anyway. People usually think that stretched resolution is cheating. I don't see it that way. Stretched resolution literally makes the FOV 10 times better than it is. One could argue, that it gives advantage at loops. But, if they fixed the FOV a bit, and lock it in, so new stretches wouldn't do a damn thing, then they could also add a few extra crates or whatever to certain loops, so everyone would be playing at a fair level, but with a modern FOV.
Of course, stretched is not cheating. People keep parroting that only because Tru3 is on his personal crusade, without having any proof of it. There's actually proof that he's wrong, if anyone cared to test it, instead of going by his word, this is what they'd find out: https://clips.twitch.tv/KathishFragileHyenaCeilingCat
For survivors, it really does nothing at loops. If anything, it's beneficial for killers to a certain extent, but I'm sure that doesn't fit Tru3's narrative. It can help in certain situations, for example to catch glimpses of survivors when vaulting or breaking pallets, those who run into you to juke, for killers with fatigue such as Nurse or Legion.
Imo, it's a non-issue that's been blown out of proportions.

Sure, I can list a few. I don't want to list them all because this might become a novel very easily. Keep in mind, you don't have to be successful for your strategy to be considered cheesy. Cheesy =/= Pip or 4K (I don't know how you personally measure success).
There's the classic cheese:
Insidious + The Cannibal. Camping + any Perks. (My favorite camping technique, that I've seen, is what I like to call "The Yo-Yo". You leave the hook to about 25m, come right back, repeat. It's typically used to defend a basement hook. It's extra spicy cheese if you're playing a Killer that is immune to Borrowed Time at that range.)
Some extremely common cheeses include:
Nemesis + Play With Your Food + The Cannibal. Infectious Fright + The Nurse, The Hillbilly, or The Oni. (All of the Infectious Fright examples are extra spicy cheese if you combine them with Monitor & Abuse for the extra detection range.) Make Your Choice + Deer Lung + Rotten Green Tripe + The Demogorgon.
Finally, there's the rare cheese reserved only for your "most enjoyable" Trials:
Iridescent Head + Infantry Belt + The Huntress. Red Head's Finger + The Clown. Jigsaw's Sketch + Crate of Gears/Tampered Timer + The Pig.
I think that's enough examples. More often than not, everyone either black pips or depips when these cheesy strategies or builds are used. I don't see the point.
Thanks. I'm sure you'll catch some flak for a couple of these, although I understand where you're coming from.
I know you didn't include everything, so this is just one last brief question. Did you include also stacked slowdown builds? Examples Plague/Legion + ruin + thana + corrupt (or dying light, pop, etc.).
-
Not much difference. The worst part is the huge amount of bugs. Some maps have spots that are less annoying. Others are a bit questionable with the deadzones and the gens cramped up together.
-
If you post a 17 min video, you should include a tl;dw. Just a suggestion.
-
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Could you elaborate on what you classified as these, please?
Cheesy Build(s), Strategies

Was he next to you when you didn't get the prompt? Bodyblocking vault can be deceptive. The killer doesn't need to be that much inside the vault space to block it.

Oh god, imagine Huntress being hitscan.
A charged shot on dedicated servers is pretty much hitscan 50% of the time. The other 50% it's a homing missile with AoE that smacks the survivor with a concussive blast.

The number of gens has not been changed. If you're sure of what happened, you should report this as a bug.
On a side note, I do agree that some gen spawns on the reworked maps are questionably cramped up.

Don't place them too close to gens even if they're hidden. When a portal has been activated, survivors not only can see them, but they can hear them as well. Also, don't invest too much time at the beginning trying to set up a network. Just put down a couple of portals and set the others as you go.
I recommend corrupt intervention on Demo.

This isn’t oni’s problem this is latency and animation problems.
Wasn't the latency explanation that, due to desync, the killer sees the survivor closer than they are and the dedi hit doesn't look like it connected on the survivor's screen, but it does on the killer's screen?
Ok for the animation part, but latency doesn't compute with the version we've been given, at least as far as this video is concerned.
-
You have to be in a chase for a total of 30 seconds. It doesn't matter if it's a single chase or many, i.e. the escaped score event doesn't reset the count.
-
The issue is that they're namely ultra-rares, but that's doesn't say exactly how rare.
With caution, it appears that a bloodweb can spawn either 0 or 1 pink nodes and the chance of spawning is between 65% and 85%. Now, if we take a killer with standardized add-on rarity, they have two pink add-ons and one pink offering (ebony). If those three unlockables have an equal chance of spawning, that means that the individual chance is 0.65*0.33=0.21 and 0.85*0.33=0.28 or 28%. In other words, 1 bloodweb out of 5 / (a little less than) 4 will spawn an ebony.
If we take green nodes, they're more numerous in a bloodweb. However, the sheer number of green unlockables is also very high. That means that their individual chance of spawning is actually lower than the individual chance of greens. That's why, ironically, every killer knows very well that it's much more common to get an 'ultra-rare' ebony mori in a bloodweb rather than a simply 'rare' ivory.

Imagine having torn bookmark and spawning on Hawkins. You're a m1 killer with no power. Whoever designed that add-on has never played nurse in their life.
I've never been a fan of ultra rares and op add-ons, but the downside to torn bookmark is totally unjustified, because it wouldn't be that strong even if they removed the minus. The way her basekit works now, the penalty is already built-in because the third blink has to recharge. Adding another handicap on top that and even more so removing the ability that makes Nurse the Nurse, i.e. going through objects, is massively overkill.
Let's not go over all the meme add-ons and those that are own perks made as add-ons. The imagination must've lacked big time when they reworked them.
-
It's worth it if you enjoy playing as her. You have to give it some time to actually know if in the end she's your cup of tea.
She could be a bit map dependent and at level 5 you will run into some difficulties not having a proper build. She has a bit of a learning curve, my advice is to be patient with your hatchets and don't over use them at short loops that you can't throw over. Also, I shouldn't be saying this, but a huge part of mastering hatchets is learning how to abuse the hitboxes, so you use them to your advantage.

wait so originally you hear that wooshing sound when in her TR?
The description is a bit puzzling. Same for her power, it says that "While Yamaoka's Haunting is active the Spirit will produce an audible cue at her current location". If we went by those words, the intended mechanic would seem to be to hear the whoosing sound inside the TR, then the description of prayer beads would make sense.
I noticed the wording maybe a month ago when I was prestiging my Spirit. I'm not sure it was always like that. Maybe at some point when they were nerfing her they planned to make the cue audible inside the TR and then they scrapped the idea, but they accidentally left it in the descriptions. That, or maybe the wording is ambigous and I'm misunderstanding it, which is entirely possible.
-
Tofu has good ping, I can relate to that issue. However, switch sides and I can assure you that, even though vaults are improved, what you see in the clip is not the norm. Since the patch, I've been hit after fast vaults where the killer did the missed swing animation with the whiffing sound, then teleported forward and got a delayed hit. I could see post-match that they were far from the server. Also, ranged attacks like hatchets feel even worse now.
It's ironically a sad situation, because now killers with good ping are disadvantaged.
-
Double blink recovery addons. It's barely different than old basekit nurse. Be careful you don't charge before your second blink is ready.
-
@Xzan said:
I didn't encounter any of these (until now, need to play more rounds), but after blinking some attacks didn't connect when they should have. And no, it wasn't dead hard. I just hit the wall next to the surv, instead of the surv standing before me (she was cornered).
I don't know. I also got stuck in place inside Temple and couldn't walk away. I had to blink several times until I finally got unstuck. There's a spot outside along the temple wall that is also a dead zone and you can't blink along the wall.
For wonky hits, I had a few where the survivor was directly in front, their back against me and the swing didn't connect.
-
This would lead to accidental suicides, which wouldn't be healthy for the game. Not that there aren't any accidental suicided with the current mechanic, but anyone with more than a 100h knows to re-bind struggle to mouse down or uses a macro. It would be better to simply make struggle automatic and suicide on-demand, without adding any other interference.

Ah my bad next time I face a Spirit I'll make sure to read your tips. Oh wait you didn't say anything other than criticize, crazy how someone as "inexperienced" as me contributed to this thread more than you.
It's very simple. You spread out and genrush her. Nothing you suggested works against a sentient Spirit, let alone a Stridor Spirit. In a chase, she's dependent on the abilities of the killer, not the survivors'.
Next time you face a Spirit you can do whatever you want, as far as I'm concerned. Your suggestions are objectively effective only on low-level killers, which your comments betray as being the kind of competition you verse.
Bonus:
Fast vaulting then slow vaulting back a pallet/window(doesn't work if the spirit knows how to position, which most of the time means not phasing directly at the window).Just running after you drop a pallet, it reduces all mind games to 0(straight up abandoning the loop is a perfect way to get hit by any killer. Appalling that you would suggest something like that. Well, at least you avoided being mind gamed. Pretty good job so far). When running start walking back on your path(doesn't work if the Spirit has a brain cell).- She cannot use her power until it's 100% full so after she phases she is a 110 speed m1 killer for a bit so don't psych yourself out (typically, this works only for a very short period, because you don't have perfect information about how long she has left to recharge, because you rarely have info how long she phased to begin with. I'll let this one pass, though).
Perks: Quick and Quiet or Iron Will( Perks are counters, not counter plays, which were the subject of the debate. Q&Q could confuse any killer. It doesn't cover footsteps though, that the Spirit can still hear in phasing. Stridor trumps Iron Will).
-
The only things that stress me out are bugs. The roles themselves, killer/survivor, are stressful only if you can't accept that you will win some, lose some.

I think the team (only R1 and 2 btw) did 3 gens in total and i am not even sure how we pulled that off. He/she had over 5000 hours, and apparently this person was a nurse only player, according to steam profl (full off "Cheating Nurse player / best Nurse player " comments)
There are those players that show you how INSANE and still overpowered she is.
Do you play PC EU? Because I think I know who you faced.

Are some off the top of my head, but don't misunderstand it's not like Spirit is an easy killer to go against she is the mind game killer and to do well against a good Spirit requires you to mind game her more than she can.
None of these are counterplays against a sentient player. Ironically, you're the only one who comes across as inexperienced.
