I often equip a flashlight, however do not usually actively seek out a flashlight save. I usually go for a flash save if I'm in the right place at the right time, hence do not lose much time and could hugely help the team. Since the killers I face do not see me actively seeking a flash save, when I do go for one they are less aware of a flash save.
Even if you don't get the flashlight save or are spotted by the killer, you can still put pressure on them and waste valuable time. They'll either have to commit to you and hit you (wastes time), chase you away or risk the flash save if they are not near a wall.
Flashlights are therefore still very useful, although I would use them passively and not actively seek out a flash save in most cases. If killers don't see me and aren't near a wall and don't want to waste time checking the area, they can make the mistake of picking the survivor up in my direction. I've had killers do a 180 to pick a survivor up, only to be looking right in my direction as my presence was unknown.
So yeah, they're good if used correctly and the payoff after getting a flash save feels really good. Just don't run behind the killer all game actively seeking a save because a) you're wasting time that could be used repairing a gen and b) you might not even get the save.

The case of the death garden masks they weren't really advertised as exclusives.
They were advertised as bonuses for getting deathgarden it was even stated that if deathgarden had the chance of coming to consoles then console players would also get a chance to get it it was never marketed as an exclusive.
The official DBD twitter account advertised the DG mask as exclusive:
Uhm, never posted an image on this forum before so am unsure of how large it will be displayed (I had a warning sign when trying to post the tweet link). But yeah, they did advertise the mask as exclusive.
-
You refer to the developers not wanting any more exclusives... but in their latest event players were able to collect 'exclusive, time-limited' crown cosmetics. This was I believe ONE day after they gave away all the event cosmetics.
I find the stance from the developers very confusing. In a year's time, will people complain about not having the 4th Anniversary crowns and hence be given them for free 'in the community's best interests'?
I have also not heard any further update about the rift cosmetics being available in the store... which I thought was going to be a thing so that they are not exclusive forever.
But just to be clear. I prefer exclusive cosmetics to... stay exclusive. Legacy should remain exclusive, as well as Bloodletting, the Deathgarden mask, etc. They were advertised as exclusive, so they should remain exclusive. People were told they needed to do x, y or z to receive them and so they did so.

The problem there is.... you should fake the vault, I did it last night and easily dodged a PH range attack like 4 times in one chase
Plenty of counterplay to PH.
As long as the pyramid head has sight of you and is in range and knows what they're doing, they can simply wait for the vault animation.
In the situation described, if you play against any decent PH you will be hit. Faking the window works against bad PH's. Good ones will simply M1 if you do that.

You mean you wont get hit where you shouldn't have gotten hit after the fix. It was never a buff and the hits u were getting were never supposed to hit in the first place.
You can tell yourself windows never got buffed in favour of survivors, but they clearly have been buffed... In favour of survivors.
Not to say I hate the buff because I too disliked getting hit 2 meters from Windows. But, there are undoubtly times where I feel I'm cheated out of a hit that I should've gotten as killer. Let's just say the windows are very generous towards survivor if both the killer and survivor have a good connection.
I never go for hits at windows now unless I am absolutely sure I'll hit them. Before the change, I was able to go for 'close call' hits, that might or might not have hit em. There was a chance I could hit them. Now.. there's no point.
But just to clarify: I hardly care to further elaborate on this weird argument. I'll just finish my comment by saying that I actually agree with your points somewhat, but I do feel killers are occasionally cheated out of hits they should be able to get at windows. So as I said in my first comment, I love window hit boxes as survivor, but dislike them when I play as killer.

You are joking right hits are in the killers favor verse a high ping killer or vpn and enjoy hits through every window and pallet.
I'm not talking about cases where the killer has a ridiculously high ping or when the killer is using a VPN. Window vaults in general have been massively buffed in the survivors favour. You don't get hits you WOULD have gotten before the buff (when both the survivor and killer have good ping).
-
Window hit boxes have been greatly buffed in the survivors favour. Window vaults you wouldn't have gotten away with... you can now get away with.
As killer, it can be very frustrating trying to hit survivors, especially at common and strong windows such as the one in the shack. It is much, much harder to mind game the shack window if a survivor plays the shack well.
So I love the window hit boxes as survivor (most of the time!), but really dislike playing around windows as killer. It's just another thing that's put me off playing killer tbh.

If I for some reason ever wanted to deal with flashlights via a perk, lightborn would be my go to.
Overwhelming presence? They can still flash me...
Franklin's Demise? They can still flash me...
Infectious Fright? I mean... if I was silly enough to pickup a survivor when I hear a scream... They can still flash me.
Lightborn? No one's flashing me, unless I really, REALLY mess up. Lightborn is the real deal if you want to counter flashes.
-
The combo is surprisingly effective. I've used it a lot recently due to a lot of killers slugging and using perks such as Infectious Fright on Oni.
It's very powerful endgame. Most killers simply don't expect the Soul Guard, but I did play against someone with 7k hours who expected it and waited a few seconds before downing me. Made me feel powerless at that moment! But I was hooked away from the exit gates.
So with the current what seems meta, the combo of perks is incredibly useful because it helps counter slugging. Soul Guard is often overkill (and I would really prefer Iron Will in many situations), but it's a powerful and new perk that's fun to use as survivor.
I kind of feel bad for using the combo and have taken the perks off sometimes. But I often get killers holding nothing back with their builds, add-ons and slug relentlessly. So why should I feel bad for playing with powerful perks? The perks are especially nice when you're playing solo and don't have to rely on your team so much. They're usually potatoes.
-
I don't think looping being non meta is a good thing. I'd MUCH rather chase survivors and mindgame them at loops to catch them.
Searching for minutes on end to find stealthy survivors that will go down very quickly in a chase? Having whispers as a mandatory perk? I'm not interested. Maybe that was fun at rank 20... for a few hours.
But can you imagine playing DBD just to immerse? Has anyone here experienced playing against blendettes?? You spend ages looking for them, gain no BP, the game is drawn out for wayyy too long and the chases last seconds when you eventually find them. I don't want a 20 min game of looking around rocks and trees. I also don't want to spend all game as survivor hiding behind a tree.
So yeah, I hope DBD doesn't completely turn into a hide and seek game. It'd probably die, like hide or die.

I guess I need to find a tutorial.
I just watched this one, which says to start flashlight when the killer's hand is level with their head during pickup. Does that mean it's bad to start the flashlight earlier than that?
As @OniWantsUrLocation said, you don't actually need to time the flashlight save correctly. As soon as the pickup animation starts, blind the killer and the challenge will be completed. So you could follow a survivor in a chase with Sprint Burst and be ready to flash the killer during the pickup animation. That's all you need to do.

Now that I think of it, a steam post from 2017 was recently resurrected from the dead a few weeks ago. Someone was describing how a killer found them and how fishy it was... that killer turned out to be me. I found that post because I actively posted on the steam forum and explained myself (as seen on the second page of that post).
Finding that Claudette in that locker after realizing the chest had been recently opened made me feel really good!
Here's the original steam post for anyone interested: https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/135508292188877553/

I got called a hacker when playing survivor a few days ago by a guy with thousands of hours. He accused me of 'teleporting'. I wasn't lagging, but I guess he was salty he couldn't catch catch me. At the end of the game he was blocking my path to the exit gate... we were both on either side of a rock. It was kind of a standoff because we both didn't want to commit to going around either side of the rock. Despite not having iron will, I somehow got past him. He really wasn't the best.
But other than that I used to get called a hacker a lot just for finding survivors as killer. Sometimes I'll find them because of experience or because a crow flies off. Other times I'm using whispers or find them because of BBQAC. Lots of boosted survivors also deny the perks helped me find them, even when I try to explain the perks to them. Big sigh. Lots of false reports.

Ah okay. I found some guide where you needed to put script in engine.ini file but I removed that and gameusersettings tweaks because the game started to microstutter. I had constant 120 fps but the microstutter made the game worse than just leaving everything on default.
I used to stutter A LOT, despite having a high amount of FPS. I recommend watching this video to help with the microstuttering:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoPOiaSLXmsMicrostuttering was unbearable so this video really helped me when I had issues.

Doesn't it require script in the engine.ini file?
To change the FPS cap you don't need to edit anything in the engine.ini document. Mind you, there may be some method to completely uncap the FPS that I am unaware of, which could include editing that document. I've not looked into doing that.

Well if u have something like quick & quiet you can vault a window and potentially escape but let's be honest, it's just to be toxic
Not sure if you're joking, but flashing a killer is not toxic. Flashlight saves aren't toxic. SWF and killers camping the hook aren't necessarily toxic either. The survivors using flashlights only become toxic if a survivor is clicking at you and actually trying to trigger you, for example. Flashlights being 'toxic' is a common misconception.
Just like camping isn't necessarily toxic. Killers often have little choice but to camp when the exit gates are open. Camping only becomes toxic if the killer starts hitting the hook or nods their head.

Thank you for helping.Just one question. Is that bUseVSync=false for turning off vsync?
Yes... kind of. I believe you still need to change the FrameRateLimit variable as I mentioned above because I still think you'll be capped to 61 FPS if you don't. It's a little weird.
-
Not aware of anyone being able to totally uncap their fps, however you can increase the fps cap. Before I tell you how just note that this is only possible on PC and there is no point capping your FPS higher than 120 because the devs have hard capped 120 fps as the limit.
To increase the fps cap you have to edit the game files. First, close the game. Go to C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
Find GamerUserSettings.ini. Open it with Notepad (double clicking to open it should be fine). Press CTRL + F and type "Frame" and you will find a variable named "FrameRateLimit=..."
Change whatever number that comes after the '=' to what you want the FPS cap to be. So for example, "FrameRateLimit=120". Then save the document. That's it.
Also if you're afraid of getting banned for modifying the game files, many others including me have had our FPS uncapped for years with no problems whatsoever. The devs do not officially endorse it though. Hope this helped you.
Edit: Forgot a step, forgive me I haven't done this in a while! You also need to change the variable "bUseVSync=True" to "bUseVSync=False". I believe that is all.
-
Idk if I'd go that far. But I do get your frustration as killer and as a survivor!
As killer you can have an incredibly drawn out game against survivors that urban around the map. Finding them takes ages, the chases themselves often last seconds. No bloodpoints, no fun chases. Just an incredibly boring game.
As a survivor you tend to have to do work harder to survive. You're chased more often and... don't expect to get saved if the killer's TR is near the hook! Also expect all chests to be opened, all totems to be cleansed and ONLY then, once you're on 2nd stage hook and most of the pallets are broken, hope for a gen to be completed.
-
The hatch is a needed mechanic. If you can't activate the EGC timer, the last survivor could just hide and urban evasion around the map.
I remember almost always bringing whispers with me because I sometimes sacraficed 3 survivors before 2 gens were done. The last survivor would often be incredibly immersed and hide around the map, too scared to even touch a generator. So I had no clue where they were. I remember I had to search for at least 20+ mins at one point until I finally found the Nea hiding behind a tree on Suffocation Pit. I regretted not using whispers.
The system we have now is much better than it used to be. I'd much rather have a survivor escape in an already won game, rather than having to search endlessly or AFK and let them do the gens.

I thought I read somewhere that it was capped at 60. Does it actually give you those frames? I'll try it later though thank you.
For some reason they have hard capped the FPS you can get to 120. I used to be able to get 165 FPS (which is what I have it capped to). So if you change the limit to 240, you'll still be capped at 120. There may be a way around that too by further editing the ini file, but I have no experience with that.
-
On PC you can go to GameUserSettings.ini and change 'FrameRateLimit=' to 120, for example. So you can cap the FPS to 120. Not sure if you knew that, but there you go.
-
90% of red rank survivors:
- Get hit 2 seconds into a chase. Downed in 10 seconds. (Can never get a gen done because they keep going down and killers keeping popping the gen I'm on...) ✓
- Urban evasion and Self-Care. ✓
- Miss skillchecks ✓
- 50hrs playtime ✓
- Never look behind them ✓
- Waste pallets ✓
- Hear a faint TR or if Spinechill procs for half a second they immerse, even if they could stick and finish the gen (... pop pop) ✓
- Chests? ✓ Totems? ✓ Gens? ✕
But seriously... lots of the time if I am not the one that loops or 'runs' the killer, it feels as if the game is over because of how much of a snowball killers get via PGTW from survivors that can't last 2 seconds in a chase. If I see a survivor with a few hours in the game when I'm playing as survivor, I'm dodging. Yesterday I had survivors tell me that they just bought the game... and I'm a rank 1 survivor. Had enough of playing with really inexperienced teammates.
-
I know it'll likely be a licensed chapter. But I'd love to see more original characters. I really don't care for many more licensed killers/survivors.
-
I tend to play way too much DBD for a month or 2 then take a break. Play Overwatch/CSGO, get addicted to those and then take a break from them. The cycle continues.
I've played DBD for almost 4000 hours.
-
It's good to take breaks from DBD, it can get exhausting. Hope to see you back soon.
-
If we never complained about anything, things wouldn't change. It took years of complaining for infinites to be fixed (and there are still some questionable windows such as on the Asylum). If we didn't complain, blood lodge would still have like 50 pallets! Vaccuum's would be a thing, nurse would still have 3 blinks default. If we hadn't complained about peer to peer connections, perhaps we wouldn't have dedicated servers today, etc.
I understand that they try. But like I said if we don't complain or point things out, the Devs may have still thought infinites are a 'mind game'. Some things that haven't been complained about enough over the years such as lost legacy cosmetics have been swept under the rug again and again until people start asking "What's legacy?".
So thank you Devs for your work, but we'll still hold you accountable and complain about silly decisions you make.
-
I know a guy named Ryuti got all Legacy 3 cosmetics on all but Nea. I remember this thread he posted on the steam forums years ago:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/154642901286052826/
He wasn't working for BHVR at the time, so it's kinda cool to see him doing so now. Funny because in that post a bunch of us are complaining about how legacy looks lol.
-
The Hillbilly nerf really is disappointing.
-
He probably picked up a key from another survivor that you sacrificed in the basement. Just hook the survivor if the hatch is that close. You would have had enough time to close it afterwards.

I've always found it weird that they can't reimburse people. I don't even want legacy gear. It's yellow and makes you easy to see. It's their game though. You'd think they'd have the autonomy to fix it. Weird they don't. If someone didn't earn it and got it for free when they gave them out, who cares? It's a weird direction to take, especially with known bugs out and about.
It is weird. You will see no Developers respond to suggestions such as giving 1 set of legacy back based on the player's prestige achievements. i believe I saw a post suggesting this idea last year too and that got no Developer response despite multiple Devs being 'mentioned'.
They don't want to give any further attention to the issue than they have to. A small statement here and there... a dev questioned on the subject on stream every few months or every year or so. They'll indicate that the data back then is unrecoverable... although steam prestige achievements were never lost and many players have proof they earned legacy. They kind of just hold onto that one excuse of data loss and never actually try to refund us. It's sad.
-
Used to main killer, but honestly it's just too stressful and I'm tired of stressing over the game. I'll play it occasionally and perhaps to complete a challenge, but I often regret it.
I main survivor now and it's so much less stressful. I often read through Reddit whilst repairing a generator! That's some wind down time you never get as killer. You're always thinking of your next move or getting frustrated for guessing wrong at a jungle gym. Make one mistake? If the survivors are good, you'll be punished harshly for that. Mind you, there are so many potatoes at red ranks, even survivor is a chore to play without friends.
-
I've mentioned it in another post, but I'll mention it here too. All players that lost their legacy cosmetics have prestiged before the 24th November 2016.
The achievements prove that they prestiged once/twice/three times before the cutoff date. So they could receive 1/2/3 legacy cosmetics on ONE character of their choosing. Players may have had more than one character with legacy - but this is a compromise.
If this is not sufficient evidence for the Devs (Even though I feel as if it is), players could also show proof via steam screenshots, videos etc.
So players that still have their legacy are happy because it's not released to everyone and people who lost legacy at least get something back. I personally lost L3 Hillbilly and L3 Claud. At this point I would take L3 Claud over nothing.
So although all we can do is try to raise awareness of the issue; it's ultimately up to the devs to resolve the issue. I feel as if the main reason we never got legacy back years ago is because we kind of sat back and trusted the Devs. Now that there are less people with the issue here (as people quit the game or simply moved on), we are such a small problem in the Devs eyes. They can continue to give us blanket statements or heavily imply we will never get the cosmetics back. I don't see any big streamer or youtuber raising awareness of the issue - so the devs hardly have any pressure or incentive to actually resolve the issue. That's why I made my video in the first place. Unfortunately, I'm not a big Youtuber (I basically never post vids) so me trying to raise awareness doesn't have as big of an impact as it could have had. I'd love for a big influencer to share it.
The Devs have successfully ignored the issue for years, so although I'd love to get SOMETHING back... the reality is very different. Especially due to the recent statements.
-
Old STBFL. That was fun. I never understood why they nerfed STBFL after changing Unrelenting to the way it is now anyways.
Sprint Burst with no exhaustion. Broken, but was fun to use as survivor when in long chases.

That is a gross misconceptions. Even back in the old days of DBD, hackers would hack their achievements at different times on different days.
I'm not going to argue further about what hackers did when hacking their achievements after this comment because we both can't be for sure and I'm sure there's some anomalies. But from my personal experience, after reporting 19 users (that I took note of) - the vast majority of them from my recollection hacked in all of the currently available achievements at the same time, same minute.
But anyway. I'd like to add the Devs could view the achievement dates as mandatory and if those don't satisfy them, they could view steam achievements and video proof from those users too. So, it'd still be a valuable (and perhaps mandatory) requirement to have prestige achievements before the cutoff date along with other evidence. But as I said to icemancat, the Devs seem to have completely given up on the issue so I'm not going to get my hopes up.
-

Steam achievements can be spoofed, that's the problem.
The dates can't - but even back in the legacy days, people would hack steam achievements.
True but from my experience hackers tend to hack all achievements in at the exact same time. (I've reported many of them). Meaning many of them would be able to be easily distinguished from the people who legitimately prestiged over a matter of days/weeks.
I also doubt many players that hacked achievements from 2016 would still be around to try to claim legacy or have even heard of it. This is probably just another game out of their entire steam library that they hacked achievements in.
-
I realize this post is a few days old, but the Devs seem to have completely given up on the issue. They seem to want people to think it's impossible to identify who lost legacy when it's not as you can look at their achievements and at least give the player one set of legacy back for one character. Of course this would be a compromise, but still something.
They're ignoring this possibility.
-
"The ENTITY has discovered voice communication on the other side and has granted the" ... if only Mclean could've finished his sentence before being interrupted.
But seriously, the Devs would not do this because it's kinda weird (and unethical) blocking someone's communication software. They'd likely need permission from Discord if they were to modify how it worked.
Also, people could just use Discord on their mobile phone. Put the mobile phone on your desk and they're good. Then there's the problem with Skype, Teamspeak, Mumble, etc. It's not practical, nor ethical no matter how much you dislike going up against SWF.
-
Kinda disappointed with no Dev reply as I feel as if my suggestion is very fair and doable.
But I guess that's it then... RIP my and others legacy cosmetics.
-
If this happend, players would complain 1 week after about not having the new exclusive legacy cosmetics. And the cycle would continue.
-
I've recently swapped BT for Unbreakable. Infectious fright is much more popular than it once was and many killers like to slug, particularly for the 4k.
I used to use unbreakable and hardly get a use out of it. But now I'm getting to use it more often. MoM is rubbish and you have to actively waste time and take unnecessary hits for it to activate. So there's no point using it.
-
Not entirely sure if this is incredibly unpopular, but I'm guessing it'd probably be unpopular with people who play more killer than they do survivor.
You should be able to bleed out faster in scenarios where the killer is slugging for the 4k. At the moment many killers slug for the 4k, meaning you can be left on the floor for 4 mins. Yes you can use unbreakable. But you'd be getting up in an already lost game, just to get downed and slugged again.
I don't necessarily want to die faster to give the other survivor a better chance of finding the hatch. I want to die faster to move onto the next game and not stare at the ground for 4 mins.

Either you have forgotten or you didn't play the first lunar event. You had to play offerings to get the points you needed to claim the event cosmetic. The event was bugged. 8 out of 10 times you played a offering, the game would crash and you lost your offering. This was before offerings were returned when a match was cancelled. I spent an insane amount of hours playing this game and spending blood points for offerings that were pissed to the wind because like all their events, it was bugged. Was it Legacy blood web amount of grindy, if you are talking about earning one level of Legacy to earning one lunar event cosmetic, yes, they were comparable due to the game crashing and wasting your offerings. Saying you "barely had to clock anytime playing" is bull.
You had to play both killer and survivor. You couldn't earn the cosmetics just playing one side. Event hooks were sabo-able and killers would specifically 3-4 gen strat the event gens to be a douche as they almost always spawned clustered together. Those events were toxic AF! Don't try and tell me the cosmetics were basically given to me.
Their are several hardcore DBD players that P3'd nearly all their original survivors and killers and got legacy on most all of them. They had triple blood point events during this time period. How super difficult it was is drastically exaggerated. New players starting out now trying to P3 nearly 30 characters is the epitome of "grindy".
There was no triple blood point 'events' before the legacy cut off date. There was ONE double BP event that lasted I believe 2 days. That was it.
-
The devs are acting as if returning legacy to those that lost it is impossible. It's not.
You could return legacy cosmetics by:
- Accepting proof such as steam screenshots, videos etc. Prestige achievements before November 24th 2016 would be MANDATORY evidence.
Or by reaching a compromise:
- Again, prestige achievements before November 24th 2016 would be MANDATORY evidence. Based on how many times the person prestiged before Nov 24th 2016, you allow that person to chose ONE character to receive their legacy cosmetics on. So if they have prestiged twice before the deadline, you allow them to receive 2 legacy cosmetic's on ONE character. It's the least you could do, instead of shrugging your shoulders and pretending this issue can't be resolved.

I don't think you can see how often someone prestiged, once the achievement is achieved it has his date set and just keeps counting without making different time stamps.
But anyway, at least one piece should be the bare minimum
You can see the prestige 1, 2 and 3 achievement dates on steam. So players could be refunded 1/2/3 legacy cosmetics on ONE character based off the achievements.

Why the double standards? I don't get it. At least restore those players legacy who have the correct achievements date.
It is entirely possible for Devs to look at player's prestige achievement dates.
- Click on their profile, click on DBD achievements and see how many times the player prestiged before 24th November 2016.
- IF they have not prestiged before the cut off date, do nothing.
IF they have:
- Check (with their new 'secure' system) whether the player has legacy cosmetics in their inventory, or not.
- IF they do have legacy cosmetics, do nothing.
- ELSE give the player the choice of legacy cosmetics for any ONE character depending on how many times they prestiged. THAT'S IT.
It's such a simple compromise - it's infuriating.

So yeah I'm always playing with legacy survivors lol... sad that I'm the only one in my friend group that lost it and was unable to recover it.

Are you asking if the gen speed back in the day was slow enough where people worked on totems? Sorry if I misinterpret what you're asking but totems didn't exist when the game was released. NOED was therefore not tied to a hex totem and lasted permanently once activated. Of course that was until it was nerfed to last for 2 mins. Hex Ruin didn't exist either until the Hag was released.
Gen speed was also so, so much faster than today's gen speeds. I don't have the exact figures however gens could be done very quickly. Hex ruin didn't exist, great skill checks benefited you even more than they did pre-nerf. But... hooks never respawned early on in the game. Hence horrible survivors (like me) MIGHT have been distracted from gens as we were busy maining Jake and saboing a bunch of hooks that never respawned. (I personally did it because you got a good amount of boldness points for it back then and you didn't have to be chased, so that was nice).
So to answer your question, genspeed was not slow back in 2016, especially since pre-nerf BNP's existed. Killer's couldn't regress gens, there were no tailored perks killers could use to slow down gens like PGTW and Ruin. The only reason games may have lasted a long time is because we were all noobs back then, missing skill checks and being afraid for our lives every time we heard a faint TR. And because saboing was super useful back then and hence distracted us from gens.
