  • I used to main killer for years. Then it occurred to me. Why am I playing the more stressful side of the game and not more of the fun side? Why am I stressing all game and having to tryhard so much (against good survivors)? Why do I have to deal with so much trash mechanics like infinites, insta flashes, insta medkits, second chance perks, tbagging SWF etc.

I'm a survivor main now. I play killer sometimes, but usually either for BP or to complete challenges.

    Best choice I've ever made...

  • I don't really snack on anything specific, all the time. But I do drink a lot of tea!

  • @toxicmegg said:

i actually like the new system and hope it's gonna work. ppl would stop tryharding for ranks, Q times would be shorter and there's a 50/50 chance to get players the same skill level as you. meaning, you PROBABLY would win 50% of your games which is pretty much how it should be. If the new system is launched, dbd would be more relaxed and not competitive :)

Forever have potato team mates. Playing solo as a red rank with 3 other survivors getting downed in 2 seconds is really not fun... and it seems the new MMR system will be even worse and compliment this.

Killer might get boring too if games are too easy. Whispers may become a requirement.

There could also be times where I face nooby killers with experienced survivors on my team... which will also be boring.

All I want to have is teammates and a killer that is a similar skill level to me. But, maybe I'm over reacting. We'll see soon enough.

  • Hillbilly. If it's a good hillbilly it's hard not to respect them at pallets, knowing that one mistake can be punished with an insta down.

I play differently with Hillbilly's. At windows if need be I'll try my best to take an M1 instead of an M2. TL walls are pretty tricky. It's a welcomed challenge.

  • If the Devs are actually hiding ranks instead of fixing MM... that's just ridiculous. Making a lot of controversial changes lately.. very risky. Do they really want to kill their player base?

No one at red ranks want to be paired with rank 20 survivors and vice versa.

  • Well obviously they should bring the side effect back so survivors can blind the killer faster /s

Hmm.. I kinda like your idea of highlighting surviors slightly. Except I'd prefer if it was closer range so we can spot immersed Claudette's easier.

  • I'm still holding a grudge on them for one reason.

They. Still. Haven't. Returned. My. Lost. Legacy. Cosmetics.

And all they need to do is have a dedicated support team looking at proof people like me would send in. With steam prestige achievements before the 24th November 2016 as an absolute requirement.

    *deep sigh*

    1. When it's treatment theatere... again.
    2. When I see a survivor immediately crouch and start urban evasioning.
    3. When I realize I forgot to select a challenge.

It's ok, you'll never get a genuine response out of people about Hillbilly.

They've had the mantra of "most balanced killer in the game" drilled into them by an echo chamber of youtubers and twitcheys that steamroll with him every match, because they don't want easy mode nerfed.

They also want to feel good about themselves, so pretend that he takes some unfathomable skill to move your mouse to the left or right.

Any tool can jump on Hillbilly and perform far better than most other killers in the roster. His power provides too much advantage at 0 drawback. His add ons take away the small amount of skill requirement (easier steering) while also making him completely broken (insanely fast charge up.) He simply does not fit with the balance of every other killer where high mobility comes at some form of cost, usually lower base movement speed.

People like to get their right hand lubed up and say they can magically beat Billy by looping and that 110 speed would somehow kill him off. Sure, maybe a baby Billy. Every other killer that has the insane mobility he has moves at 110 does just fine, Hag doesn't get 100% of hits from teleports, and comparatively, all the other 115 speed killers are expected to get ALL their hits in basic chases and don't have cross map mobility on top of a one shot.

The extent of "outplaying" a Billy comes down to guessing the coin toss of 'does he go left or right?'

'The extent of "outplaying" a Billy comes down to guessing the coin toss of 'does he go left or right?'

If you play well, you're not always going to be in this position. As long as there's a window nearby, I can often force a billy to M1 unless he's using bamboozle.

Either that or hide behind an object if he's trying to chainsaw long range. Unless the Billy plays well and forces me out of position, the only other time he'll chainsaw me is if he's literally revving up his chainsaw right behind me.

  • You said you've been getting nothing but 4ks, but in 2 of those pictures someone escaped.

Also you're not playing against full red rank teams (except for the last picture). In some of those screenshots u even have rank 15+ survivors.

And... there is at least 1 DC in 2/5 of those games.

  • Hooks respawn and if you're sabboing hooks you're not doing gens.

Also The Doc could simply slug, but I don't see how he had an issue in the first place unless you were 99ing hooks and sabboing hooks in his face. And even then... he could've simply dropped the survivor and chased you.

If the chase is finished quickly before the 2 mins are up he could simply slug for a bit. If the chase lasts 2 mins he can hook you at the end of the chase. Or even better.. chase you to a non sabboed hook.

Unless you're a coordinated SWF squad sabboing... it really isn't effective at all. Seems like the Doc overeacted and played poorly.

  • I generally don't really care. Sometimes you know you've lost as survivor and only 1 person has a chance of surviving (through the hatch).

However. If the survivor hatch camping has been urban evasioning around all game and done nothing, I will try my best to find them. Buy like I said I don't care very much so never slug for the 4k unless I already know where the last 2 survivors are.

  • Stealth killers that use Tru3's strat and build on any in door map aren't skilled, but get free hit after free hit after free hit, unless you have spine chill.

Urban evasion needs to be banned at red ranks. It's disgusting playing with or against those immersed players. (Kinda joking about banning it.. but it IS annoying).

Red ranks are too easy to get on both killer and survivor. Albeit more so on survivor. I either play against babies, or have baby teammates most of the time. Mind you, it's nice to play against noobies as killer.

Self Care isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Sure, it is horrible healing with SC if the killer has sloppy. But I sometimes wish I had it equipped in some situations. E.g end game when I want to be healed to unhook someone. Or when I when to finish off a heal.

  • But the real question is, is he still a good BP machine?

No. Not at all the same. Not even close. Read my post above if ya wanna know why. Y’all are really trying to make it seem like you went thought hell and back for these but they were not difficult at all to earn. Let others earn them too.

They weren't difficult to earn like legacy was, but lots of people grinded for them for the same reason people grinded for legacy. Because they were limited time cosmetics.

Releasing them now in any form would nullify the fact that people earned them in 2018. Same as releasing legacy now would nullify the fact that people earned legacy in 2016.

  • @PrincessPoop said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1016798#Comment_1016798

Okay but I’m not asking for them for free....

Let me ask you this: how does giving others the ability to earn something that you earned take anything away from you? Again... you guys aren’t answering my question. What makes these cosmetics more special than other event cosmetics?

What makes these cosmetics special? They were earned in 2018. When players see someone wearing them, they know they've played since then.

If you were able to earn them in 2020, players probably wouldn't think much. 'Oh their wearing a cosmetic available last week...'.

It loses its value. Just like the other exclusives recently released for everyone that has played the game for 2 seconds.

  • Definitely biased toward survivor. The bias isn't as bad as it used to be, but occasionally the Devs come out with a big killer nerf or bad balancing decisions all at once making them seem very survivor biased once again.

  • Billies are fun to play against.. and fun to play as. Hope he isn't nerfed.

  • Honestly I haven't played nurse after she got nerfed, but from what I've watched she is definitely still top tier if you're good with her. At least on PC, perhaps you play on console.

She seems really punishing to play though and like you suggest clearly much worse off. Before the nerf if you were good with her, you were unstoppable. Not so much anymore unless you slug or guess most of your blinks correctly.

But still, master her blinks and possibly use a blink recharge add-on and she's still top tier if you're good enough with her.

When I play against good Nurses that's the add-on(s) their using.

  • My comment got removed when I tried to edit it (like 1-2 hours ago), so I guess I'll post it again:

I actually recorded myself losing my progress because I had heard of the EULA bug, so as soon as the EULA appeared I started recording. In the recording it shows there was a few days left of the Howling Grounds event in the main menu.

If I had lost my legacy cosmetics a few months prior, I would've simply used one of my many backup files. But that was no longer possible... and the devs rejected the save file I sent them and have been simply replying with generic copy and pasted emails ever since.

For real? I havent hear of anyone who has lost their Legacy skins recently? Didnt know its still a thing.

Yeah. I actually recorded myself losing my progress because I had heard of the EULA bug, so as soon as the EULA appeared I started recording. In the recording it shows there was a few days left of the Howling Grounds event in the main menu.

They stated that we will get ourevent skins back 100%. You can read the support answer here aswell: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/118347/still-no-event-cosmetics-in-ptb#latest

They were not able to identify everyone who lost Legacy. That was the main issue. Just remember: Our saves were local.

I lost my legacy cosmetics the same time I lost my Howling Grounds cosmetics. When they saved files on their servers.

So despite of this, they can somehow return Howling Grounds cosmetics but not Legacy. Doesn't make sense.

  • The hatch is a necessary evil in these situations.

You realize before EGC was a thing, games could be dragged on for ages with the killer checking all gens and the survivor just crouching in a corner somewhere... maybe doing a bit of a gen now and again. It was a horrible situation to be in, as killer AND survivor. Those situations don't really occur anymore which is great.

  • It is still somewhat useful, but.. yea not that good. As well as helping progress through heals and repairing faster (presuming you don't hit the great skill checks) it gives you the benefit of more points for getting those 'great' skill checks.

It can also be used as a budget spinechill. It instantly activates as soon as you're in the killers TR, so can be an early warning that the killer is coming.

But yeah.. it's not a great perk.

  • I don't really play without meta perks. I pretty much always have DS and BT equipped, but I often change the last 2 perks up a bit.

At the moment I really like running these builds (with DS and BT) Plunderer's Instinct, Ace In the hole

OR Head On, Q&Q OR Resilience, Spine chill.

But yeah... not the most off meta perks.

  • Killer: I'm not good at tracking. Sometimes I'll lose a survivor after a briefly losing sight of them.. then kinda pretend I was leaving them anyway.

Survivor: Sometimes I get a bit greedy and hope the killer respects. The problem with that is I am easily punished as I no longer run Dead Hard, so if they don't respect I'm done for.

Mess with the bull, you get the horns. Flashlight saves are EXTREMELY annoying and I have absolutely no mercy when someone does it.

He had a flashlight save on The Game. The killer could have slugged, been close enough to a wall or could just bait the survivor out... or simply looked the other direction.

It's the killers fault, flashes are easily avoidable now especially if the survivors doesn't have SB.

  • Also:

    • Gentapper - When survivors go off and on a gen to avoid skillchecks however are still slowly repairing it
    • Immersed - Typically a Claudette with Urban Evasion that evades the killer at all costs and doesn't really do anything but hide all game
    • Jungle gym - Walls with windows.. I guess
    • Baby - A nooby survivor/killer
    • Slugger - A killer that leaves a survivor or survivors on the floor
    • Gen jockey - Suggests the survivors have no skill and were simply rushing gens
    • M1 killer - A killer that doesn't have a good ability and is kinda easy to play against. They aren't great when looped.
    • Reverse pallet drop - Drop the pallet on the killers side and stun them
    • Flashlight save - Saving a survivor with a flash (when they're being picked up)
    • Bodyblock - Can be used the same way the sandbagging term is used, but is generally used as a way of signalling to body block the killer.
    • 3 genning - When survivors have left the 3 gens too close together or when the killer is heavily patrolling 3 gens close together.
    • Dedicated hit - When a survivor gets hit when they don't think they should have due to bad server ping.
    • Pretty good job so far - Often used when something buggy is going on.
    • Fake legacy - Used to refer to someone using hallowed blight cosmetics.
    • Vacuum vault/pallet/hook/pickup - Not really used anymore but used to refer to mostly survivors being able to vault a window or drop a pallet despite being quite far away.
    • Respecter - Survivors use this when describing the killer at pallets. If they back away from pallets when THEY think they're gonna be pulled down, they're 'respecting' the pallet. Survivors can use this info to perhaps get another loop around since they respect.
    • 4% - When a survivor yeets off the hook by unhooking themselves. They may also want killers to 'respect the 4%'.
    • Fake - Survivors may 'fake' window vaults in the hope the killer falls for the bait and lunges into nothingness. Survivors could also fake other things like unhooks, pallet vaults etc.
    • ... then there's shack, cow tree, main building, bus, basement, tractor etc which are callouts to SWF teammates... but I'm not gonna list all of those and they don't really need an explanation anyway.
  • There are potato teammates all the way up to rank 1, there is no escape.

  • My Legacy 3 Claudette and Hillbilly returned...

  • Devotion 1, level 75. Took a break from the game, but now I'm back for a bit.

  • It's fine as it is because if survivors had a unique passive benefit, we'd see the same survivors every game. Players will eventually find that one or 2 survivors that have the 'meta' or best passive benefits and only play them.

  • Consistent short bursts of waving = Killer is camping.

Long bursts of waving = Killer is camping

Literally any kind of waving = Killer is camping.

It's been this way since the start of the game! If you're waving on the hook and I'm across the map I will most likely prioritize the gen I'm on.

Btw if a killer is camping, waving on the hook can sometimes deter them. I know if I hear a survivor spamming it, all other survivors could be rushing gens and so I should probably put pressure on them.

  • It means the killer is camping.

  • Merry Christmas

  • Stealth killers basically get free hits and a huge LOS advantage.

It's hard to tell where killers are even with the TR. Are they right behind you, or being looped above you? Waste time off the gen and hide or carry on doing it and risk a free hit/down.

Running iron will? Tough luck. Killers can track your blood for miles on this map. If you're getting tunneld, the killer is not gonna lose you if you're injured.

Is there a pallet around the corner? Who knows until you run around the corner. If there is a pallet, well done you got lucky. If there isn't, well that's another free hit/down.

IMO it's much better for killers than it is for survivors. The only issue I really have with it is that is is insanely good for stealthy killers, especially with a nurse calling/sloppy butcher build. I also don't really like how I have to guess whether a pallet spawns, but oh well.

Oh and good luck finding Ruin!

  • However much Auric cells the Rift cost. I can't remember tbh.

I don't buy any cosmetics with shards either. Just yoink some DLC now and then with them.

In the case of legacy skins, it's not that it's low on the list, it's that it's not on the list at all. They have said many times that they are unfortunately unable to restore lost legacy skins. This is because back when legacy was earned, user data, including cosmetics, was stored locally, so the developers have no way of verifying who, of those who claim to have lost their legacy cosmetics, earned those cosmetics legitimately at the time.

I lost my legacy cosmetics the same time I lost my Howling Ground cosmetics. If they can restore Howling Ground cosmetics, they should be able to (at the very least) restore legacy cosmetics that were lost during that time period too.

You mention: "They have said many times that they are unfortunately unable to restore lost legacy skins.". However, I have been reassured countless times from the support team, that they're looking into it... and I'm sure many more 'reassurances' (copy and pasted emails) will be given in the future.

  • @Fibijean said:

There's no answer anyone can give you. When the cosmetic restore is ready, they will announce it officially. Until then, there's nothing to be done but wait.

The reason they aren't giving it out on a per-person basis is not because they don't have the time or manpower, it's because it's simpler (and probably quicker, believe it or not) for them to do the restore all at once for everyone affected. They've been pretty busy with the DC penalty testing, the new patch, bug fixes, the release of the last of the challenges for this Tome, etc., so I can imagine that something like restoring lost progress which has no effect on actual gameplay is pretty low on their priority list for now.

I'm sure it will happen eventually, but I doubt you're going to get an exact date until the official announcement. The only thing I can tell you is it almost certainly won't be happening this month, since the studio is about to close for the holidays.

"so I can imagine that something like restoring lost progress which has no effect on actual gameplay is pretty low on their priority list for now.".

There's absolutely no doubt about that. Restoring lost cosmetics has been a 'low' priority for years and continues to be. Some people have been waiting 3+ years for their legacy back. So I'd say legacy cosmetics have a non existent priority and are more of a scarce after thought.

  • 99ing doors is often important for the survivor in a chase. As soon as the timer starts, the killer has a huge upper hand because they can keep a survivor at a loop with the time ticking. They're no longer under pressure to 'make a play' and can instead wait the survivor out. The survivor will have to make a last ditch attempt to get past the killer, which isn't easy if you're injured or they have an insta down ability.

With no timer, the survivors are under less pressure. The survivors could coordinate a save without worrying about bloodwarden, could have the extra time they need to heal up, unhook etc. It's therefore just generally better when the gate is 99ed instead of open.

There are some situations where 99ing can be bad, such as if the chased survivor is forced into opening the door (like you mentioned). But with a good team, that shouldn't happen.

  • My definition of people being 'immersed' in dbd: Survivors that seemingly hide all game, hardly do anything, take way too long unhooking, take 10 mins looking and cleansing all the totems and chests. They're overly cautious and generally use SB and Urban Evasion too. They ABSOLUTELY LOVE saving their SB by crouch walking across the entire map.

Immersed players will urban evasion away and hide in a corner as soon as their spine chill goes off or as soon as they hear the faintest terror radius. If they're found they'll instantly drop every pallet they come across, don't look behind them and tbh... aren't great team players.

I don't like immersed players as killer OR survivor. Killer is boring without chases. Survivor is frustrating at red ranks because we need to be as efficient as possible. Urban evasioning around the corners of the map to eventually start a gen or cleanse a totem isn't efficient. RUN! Do something!

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind survivors that are stealthy now and then. But being stealthy and being immersed are 2 very different things, from my perspective.

  • I've lurked and have only recently signed up. Never really hopped on board with this forum and hid away in the infamous steam forums.

Didn't really give it a chance and didn't like to change from the steam forum to this one.

Wish I signed up sooner, seeing a lot of familiar names popping up and the forum is... alright! I like all the dev (but mostly Peanits!) replies too. Feels good.

  • At the moment I am. I don't want to double pip.

  • Killer. I've tried playing killer again today, but it's just too stressful. I'm really put off playing killer at the moment and it's simply because of the stress. I don't even 'tryhard' and mindlessly do whatever, but I still find it stressful (at red/purple ranks).

Survivor is less stressful, but mind you I'm also getting put off playing survivor a bit because it's so annoying running to a small loop and knowing there's a 99% chance of getting hit. Not because I played badly, but because of killers skipping like spirits and seemingly hitting through pallets because of dedicated 'lag'. I'm usually pretty good in those situations. Anyway, back to the point of the post:

    Killer is definitely more stressful.

  • Steam forum OP

  • Farming is a problem. But this idea would just create another problem with teammates kicking away unhookers to troll.

  • @Salty_Huntress said:

They were originally going to give it to all players but after a backlash from many of the players who have earned them they decided to not give them out. Personally the grind wasn’t that much for me but I understand why people don’t want them rereleased as the time they put into the event meant nothing.

I don't think the devs decided to reverse the decision of the release of the event cosmetics for everyone because of 'backlash', but rather because they were able to identify the players that actually earned the cosmetics, but lost them. The purpose of everyone receiving them was (as I believe) only because they couldn't identify the people who actually lost it, but they now have.

  • I don't get where all the entitlement comes from. You've just been given exclusives, now a few days later you're hounding the Devs for more.

It's called legacy for a reason. It's exclusive for a reason. It was released in 2016 for a reason. It was for the players who were REALLY dedicated to the game from the start, where it not only took hundreds if not thousands of hours to prestige but it was at a very different time. I remember the day before legacy I had my trapper at lvl 50 but I still didn't prestige. The grind was that atrocious, I couldn't bear to lvl him up again after prestiging other characters.

The player base wasn't as big. There was very little killers compared to today. There was basically no double BP ANYTHING. No double BP offerings, add-ons, perks, events. Except for a 2 day double BP event before the deadline.

During those times you had to ready up every 5 seconds if in a SWF lobby until you finally found a game. SWF was still a very new feature. REAL Infinites were a thing. Hooks did not return. Gens could not be regressed. No bloodlust. Pallet havens. People lost ALL their progress... and cosmetics (cough cough).

Old jungle gyms had 2 vacuum windows, 2 vacuum pallets. Medium fault didn't exist, you could fast vault from any angle. Totems didn't exist. Exhaustion didn't exist. Vast majority of the content we have today didn't exist.

So when you say just to put the bloodweb as hard as it used to be, it isn't as simple as that. Legacy was given to dedicated players at the start of the games life...and believe me we really had to grind for it. Releasing it again would just completely disregard the old players who helped form this community and actually stuck with this game despite all of its faults.

  • Never really thought about this. But it'd be cool to include all the L4D and L4D2 characters. Never going to happen, but it'd be funny especially if you could spam voicelines like you can in L4D.

Seriously, what do you think the fix is then? Pallets should slowly move towards survivors in case you ever get caught out of position and can't make it through one in time?

You weren't close enough or didn't react fast enough to get the drop without taking a hit. Move on and play safer next time.

This is not about 'timing', it is about the inconsistencies in server ping. What WOULD have stunned the killer with good timing actually DOESN'T, because of the server latency.

So now there's a problem with having to waste pallets because you often can't be sure that another loop could be made because of the inconsistent server ping. So you can risk the loop, but be punished for not guessing whether the ping is good enough or not and get hit through the pallet.

1 … 28 29 30 31
