Most people on the forum play both sides, despite the "forum is filled with killer mains" rhetoric used by people who think you can't speak out in favor/against something unless you're part of/outside that group.
Personally, I started out as a survivor main with a 3-man "SWF" before SWF was even a thing, then both sides as a solo survivor, now back to survivor main with a 2-man SWF.

Where is the skill in tunneling?
The only difference between tunneling and not tunneling is the target you go for. Other than that, they are functionally the same: a set of chases. To say that there's no skill in tunneling is to deny that chasing requires skill (which some people actually believe, but I'm hoping you're not one of them).
-
People have been saying this for almost 5 years about every asymmetrical horror game. Spoiler warning: DbD is still here.
DbD has had plenty of competition, it just sucked.
-
If MMR works the way it's supposed to, then no. All that will happen is that people who play to win (and are very good at it) will go up against each other. If they don't like that, they can tone it down by themselves.

So going for the unhooked survivor the first time is tunneling, the second time it isnt? Definitions don't work like that. Both times it was tunneling.
And DS works once. At some point, skill has to come into play.

About ######### time, BHVR. Side note, I'm surprised they were able to put that trailer up on YouTube.

If I don’t reply it is simply because I have no desire to continue a conversation with players who are obviously biased towards one side that no matter what is said, they can’t even for one second forget which side they main.
None of what you said in that reply applies to what I was talking about. None.
We’ve gone from one extreme “abusing DS” to the other “You can’t heal for 1 second or touch a gen for 1 second” or you lose your deactivation timer. It would have been more meaningful if they actually address the core of the problem why this perk was even changed to what it is now.
Meanwhile, Tunneling Camping and Slugging remain the same. Same a usable actions with no downside whatsoever, but sure let’s keep on adding more conditions to DS. What’s next? Playing a certain character deactivates DS, oh no I got a better one, spawning in the map deactivates DS. Yeah that one ought to do it.
I had a comment detailing some drawbacks for those three actions you mentioned, but I lost it after accidentally hitting Refresh. Hopefully someone else can tell you why you're wrong on that front.
Anyway, I don't think DS deactivating under those conditions is a bad thing. If you're trying to heal, working on gens, or whatever, then either you're not being tunneled (in which case the anti-tunnel perk should not protect you), or you're making a bad/dumb play (in which case the anti-tunnel perk should not protect you).
Tell me, why would you want to work on a generator or heal yourself if the killer is chasing you? Does that sound like something you should do?

Not really, it works both ways, if there is no obsession the survivors also know stuff like Ranchor is not in play, an obsession being always present would be less predictable and therefor imo better.
also having a totem be lit always is not imo a bad thing, more points for the one that destroys it and it might eventually help a little bit with people complaining their hex is destroyed instandly (now personally I believe in the risk/reward factor, but still).
I disagree. I think it removes a layer of thought from the game (now the presence of an Obsession is irrelevant) and would make everything worse.
-
Just bring an Obsession perk if you want an Obsession. This would be like killers wanting lit totems without bringing Hex perks.

correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the First Amendment protect American's free speech on social platforms? Genuine question
No, it doesn't. Just read the text and see.
Anyway, this is touching on political, so I'd rather drop the subject, if that's alright with you.
-
If all survivors are hiding and refusing to progress the game, that's holding the game hostage. Record the trial and report them.
With that said, there's a line between "holding the game hostage" and "hiding because if you show yourself you're dead in 15 seconds or less". It's tough to judge when you're in the trial, but my suggestion is to record the trial and report them when you feel it's gone on for too long and let the mods sort it out.

It's a fundamental right for Americans, but dbd is not played only in America, other countries have different laws.
Also, as somebody already pointed out, it's not even developed by Americans.
It's not even a fundamental right for Americans. There's no law that says a private platform or venue is obligated to allow you to use it however you wish.

The "issue" being that you can't get away from the killer the first time, or that killers can focus on their objectives (like in any normal game)?

It was just a proposed change, not final. The sheer number of times this was repeated, including labeling all the associated material as "not final", made me think they were seriously overdoing it, but apparently they didn't do it enough.

Not enough time. Not enough data.
they are probably already working on adjustments, but they need to get the Chapter ready for platforms to review way before the release. They can’t make major changes between PTB and live. That doesn’t mean the feedback gets ignored completely
It's easier to complain than to understand.

Because the problem already has a solution. People can mute, and they can disable chat. Now, instead you create more problems because you censor real words that people use. Hell you literally can't say "myers" right now in the in-game chat, and he is a character in the game. Then you have the problem of multiple languages. Something might be offensive in one language but not another. Offensive speech is also not subjective. Something one person might find offensive another one will not. The reality is, literally any idea that can be conveyed with words will offend some person on this planet somewhere.
On top of all that. Censorship is evil.
Please, spare me the moral judgements. Base your arguments on objective data, if it's not too much to ask.
Someone already posted themselves using these innocuous (and supposedly censored) words, like Myers. The filter seems to be adaptive.

How could BHVR from an objective standpoint without doubt that someone calling someone a "claudette" is actually doing it as a racial slur? Sometimes people call people "meg heads" in the game as well as an insult. You can't moderate that. It's not possible.
And what about every other case, which can be moderated?
Again, I don't buy into the "We can't solve every problem, so we might as well not solve any problem" thought process.
-
@Reinami said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2065263#Comment_2065263
That's not actually true, laws have punishments associated with them and they have hard definitions. There is a reason speech is a protected right in the U.S. Obviously things like, stealing, murder, assault etc. are all objectively wrong and we can have actual proof and evidence that is what happened.
And you think bypassing the censor doesn't carry some form of punishment?
-
@Reinami said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2063002#Comment_2063002
Censorship is evil, but as a better explanation of why these systems never work to begin with.
Here are 2 examples. One comes from league of legends. One common thing to prevent is people saying things like the "n-word". There are a lot of obvious reasons why they would want to ban that.
Now, what do you do when instead of calling people that word, people instead call other people "Lucian". You see, Lucian is a character in the game who also happens to be black. The reality there was, everyone KNEW what those players were saying, but they were saying the name of a character in the game.
Now let's bring it back to dbd. What will BHVR do if people start calling people "claudette" or "adam" instead of that word? Because i guarantee you people are going to do that kind of thing.
Another example. A popular acronym in some games is "K-Y-S" which people mean as "#########" so games started banning that phrase. Well now people will instead say "Keep Yourself Safe" a phrase which, by itself, sounds like something nice. But in reality, they are still saying "K-Y-S"
You can't censor speech because the people you are trying to censor will get around it by saying different things that have the same meaning. All it ends up doing is becoming this cycle where you censor words that start to negatively affect regular users. This is why the actual word choice doesn't matter, and what matters is intent. It is also why i don't believe censoring what people say is any good. Give people instead the options to, mute someone. disable chat entirely, being able to avoid playing with certain people, etc. Because you can't actually moderate effectively, when the people you are trying to moderate can just think of clever ways to get around it.
EDIT: While posting this, i actually had to change the K-Y-S because it is censored. But the phrase "Keep Yourself Safe" was not. See what i mean?
That's the same logic as "laws don't work, because criminals don't care about laws". I don't buy into that.
-
Why are you tapping a gen while being tunneled? You're either not in danger, or shouldn't be touching gens anyway because the killer is on your ass.

There is not a single point in human history where the good guys were the ones censoring speech.
Censorship is evil.
It's a private platform, not a governmental (or similar) organization. Don't make a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be.

Their balance team just sucks ass.Period.That is the games biggest problem.
Maybe the devs want to see how the Trickster will perform under real conditions. I don't think I need to tell you that people do not play normally on the PTB.

I'd argue behaving as if everything is yours to do with as you see fit, regardless of what the owners want, is worse.

It took 2 years for them to listen to one suggestion, although I think it's more likely they came up with such decision and conclusion themselves.
Also, if LITERALLY everyone is saying something and there's no other opinion, then maybe it would be right to listen to that opinion.
PC players are going nuts after playing this killer and now imagine how console players are feeling
Ad populum, have you heard of it? Just because a lot of people believe something or hold the same opinion doesn't make it true (look at pro-diseasers/anti-vaxxers, for example). The devs are free to look at the objective data instead of the subjective opinions of a tiny portion of their playerbase.

It doesn't matter whether it's about realism or not, some things must be taken into account regardless of how the imaginary world we're talking about is ######### with real life physics.
You have your line on what "should be taken into account", the devs have theirs. It's subjective.

Maybe my wording wasn't where I wanted it to be, but I'm trying to point out that solo que. will always be a struggle against a NOED. Even if you tell people to "do bones", there will always be people who don't give a flying fudge about totems...
So whenever people try to tell others to just "do bones", you might as well tell them to play on a swf.
Or you can tell them to equip perks and/or items to help with that task, if they're having trouble.
-
@Mazoobi said:
This is just encouraging people to play on swf, but killers always complain about that... mmm :/
Which part is telling people to play SWF? It's literally just saying "If you see a totem, cleanse it". That doesn't require SWF.

There have been plenty of games in the genre. Problem is, they all failed. Clearly, most people prefer DbD.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/238022/why-does-the-censor-even-exist
Back in my day, there was no moderation. People these days are too sensitive about things. Personally i don't think games should ever moderate like that. Give people the ability to mute/ignore people, and if they don't like people say, mute them and move on with your life.
Well, it's the devs' choice. Personally, I think it'll make the chat a lot better. Sure, it could (and should) be optional, but beyond that (and the filter blocking words it shouldn't), I think it's a definite improvement.
-
Keep NOED, keep DH. Cleanse totems. Embrace Small Game.
-
No. I don't want unsafe unhooks to be incentivized even more, that just rewards campers and hook vultures. If you know the killer is camping, all the more reason not to unhook in their face.

And years from now there to say that never happened. Just like you
32 charges is almost half a gen to begin with (40%, to be precise), because gens require 80 charges. 180 charges would be two and a quarter gens.
PS: I'm a survivor main who's played the game since launch.
-
@Tillablerhino44 said:

Because it's not information that should be given freely, for balancing reasons. It'd be like letting killers know how many Obsession perks there are at any given moment.

I mean why most of the time it is on a hill or beside killer shack me and my team always leave on totem alone and make sure everyone knows where it is for bp challenge etc. Noed only ticks me off when extremely good killers that doesn't need it use it.
So you literally refuse to cleanse totems, but you still want to be exempt from the effect of a hex perk. Gotcha.
@Tillablerhino44 said:
No common knowledge 5.
Every one knows exactly how many totems there are. So why should it be a surprise.
Because what you want to know is how many totems remain at any given point, not how many there are at the beginning. Those are two different things.
-
@Tillablerhino44 said:
No but why should I waste a perk slot on something that should be common knowledge.
Because it shouldn't be common knowledge. And not even SWF knows how many totems are in the trial, they can only know how many they cleansed. Unless you're saying that solo survivors never cleanse totems, which would explain the NOED "issue".
