  • I think it's fine since it's only for the event. The event tome isn't difficult to do at all, so as annoying as remote hooks are I havent found them to hold me back from progressing through and obtaining the event rewards.

    @Hex_Llama said:

I think it's possible that any of the event mechanics would unbalance the game if they were permanent, but my personal experience with remote hooks is that I really like it as killer and it makes no difference to my game as solo survivor, since my teammates rarely go for saves anyway. 98% of the time a down was a hook in solo queue, so I notice no difference for the event.

The way alot of killers talk about PGP and FB and "flashlight bully squads" it sometimes feels like every single game they're losing survivors off their shoulders. It's actually refreshing to see someone acknowledge that it almost never happens lol

I think people are pretty silly about how purist they try to pretend to be about horror in this game. What is a survivor? They are just a human trying to survive against the entity. Any human. What makes Dwight more of a "horror" character than Lara? Read his lore. He's literally just some random loser.

True. Alot of the survivors are just average folk dropped into a horror setting.

  • Is it just today? She's had a pretty sweet skin hit the store so could be that people are seeing her alot today and are a bit over it

  • I am an ex Switch player. One of the devs posted before that they wouldn't do cross progression if they couldn't get all platforms involved. So sounds to me like Switch should still be included

  • I just bought some and had no issues (on PS5)

  • My suspicion is that we might not be able to transfer DLC stuff

  • I hope so. The person bringing the perk is putting a big old target on their heads when the person they unhook disappears and they're the only one standing there. So it's a very altruistic perk and needs to be strong or else no one will bring it.

I don't see enough tunnelling in my games to need to bring it but with tunnelling being pretty much the #1 complaint since I started playing years ago, BHVR need to bring in actual good anti-tunnel perks. If people don't like it, well, be careful what you wish for because they'll probably end up slapping a basekit solution on it. And personally I'd rather they didn't do that.

I mean, I want at least something to do in the game. Sorry.

Yeah… Some Horror elements do not turn a franchise into Horror.

Agree with this, but I'd argue that pretty much everything can be adapted into horror. Like there literally exists a Winnie the Pooh horror movie lol and The Watchers is a recent horror movie about fairies (full disclosure, I havent seen the movie yet but have read the book so it's possible they changed things). I personally don't think it's too outlandish taking a character from an action / adventure medium and dropping them into a horror one. Especially since Lara Croft games do involve many supernatural elements.

  • I don't mind Lara herself joining but what gets me hype for new releases are perks. Survivors themselves are just skins at the end of the day, I'm more keen to see what new tools they bring to the table. Her perks are very lacklustre imo so yeah, this chapter falls flat to me. Lara looks good at least.

  • Would be pretty cool if they'd managed to land Miss Peggy Carter

Goes both ways, why dont you try to play killer in your break, and lead by an example ? → That will also show you how a lot of survivors act towards killers.

When i was killer main, it was prob 1/8 games where everyone left with out dragging time in the endgame, just to be toxic.

This is how some survivors act when they have won (i recorded this 1½ week ago ).

    https://imgur.com/2QpGlG5

I watched my team mates behave like this the other day, after they let me go to second stage on my first hook and then I was the sole person to do the last gen - despite being injured and on death hook thanks to them - and I committed to finishing it with the killer right in front of me so I died for them. And they behaved like this at the exit gate despite being absolutely useless to me. I regretted so much doing that last gen. I should have just hid like they did.

  • @Science_Guy said:

Sure, but voiced survivors are pretty much the default nowadays. The DND characters were the only survivors to NOT have voice acting since Vittorio, i.e. a year and a half.

The DnD survivors do have voice lines though? I've heard Aestri talk and she hums the DBD theme too

  • Weave makes you drop the item upon completion. BHVR even buffed it in the latest patch by making medkits without add ons get fully consumed upon a single heal (previously there would be a couple charges left on it after a full heal). They said it was a bug, though it'd been like that for over a year now, and it's coincidental they fix it at the same time as we get Weave. But anyway

  • @TheTom20 said:

As survivor in my own games ill say team mates been way more toxic than killers. Even had a few killers feel bad for what im having to put up with.

This is my experience too. I've had the odd killer whose family is clearly being held hostage, but for the most part killers have been fine. My team mates though... it's been something.

I apparently angered a Nea just now cos she was on hook for like 10s while the Wraith was still there, cloaked, after kicking my gen and knowing I was somewhere close, and I didn't want to either farm her off hook in front of him or hook trade. Another survivor ran in and of course had to hook trade, and Nea decided to point at and sandbag me all game. I made sure to save the gameplay and rewatched it after and still have no idea what her problem was. She ended up with 10k and I had 27k so I hope seeing that in endgame embarrassed her. But that's just my most recent game. I've had about a dozen team mates like her this event.

  • It's probably "unheard" of because BHVR have dropped the community challenge requirements in the past to make sure the community reached it. They'll do it again too if needed.

  • Yeah it's not counting bonus points. These challenges used to so I dunno if it's a bug or intentional change.

  • Yeah it sucks. I never hide when there's 2 of us left. I do the "right" thing by sitting on a gen until the killer finds me, then doing all the fun stuff while my team team mate hides. But it's 50/50 I'll get left slugged. Killers hate when the last two survivors try outlast each other and hide, but those of us who don't do this still get forced to remain in game.

  • I've said for awhile they need to make them not count. It won't eliminate slugging but I do think it'll help.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to imply you did. Just saying I wish BHVR made it more clear.

  • Sounds more like their team mate farmed them off hook. Most killers will kick a nearby gen before moving off so the unhooker came in pretty quick. Nothing I hate more than when team mates unhook me when the killer is right there. I'm actually petty enough that if the killer goes for me I'll let them down me immediately just to deny the farmer their safe unhook/emblem points.

    Bond, empathy, dejavu & Kindred

currently 45% escape rate (if we include hatch) used to be over 60%

Of all 4 dejavu ia the one i'd switch out & probably will soon to be honest, never needed or liked windows but for those that do probably the best option.

Info is an incredibly powerful tool especially in solo.

Bond - teammate running the killer right to you!, or you take the chase AWAY from them (even though most do the opposite)

Empathy - heal players when needed, know exactly where the killer is when someone gets injured or is injured & in a chase

Kindred - dont waste time going for un hooks someone else is closer to or feeding proxy camp killers, but also even if you are going for a rescue you know which way the killer went & where to avoid.

Dejavu - just trying to stop 3 gens to ne honest, saves a little gen searching time, speed boost is meh, this is the one I switch out for use x perk tome challenges, a few other aura perks work just as well or a chase perk ect if you want extra back up.

Should note I use aura builds on all killers too, 0 slow down, zero tunneling, great results

Had the worst Vittorio in my game last night and he was using Bond. When 3 of us were double hooked he hadn't been hooked once, as he would run the killer directly to someone else on gen, and he would unhook when the killer was nearby and then run in the opposite direction. Dude wouldnt take a hit at all. Was healing me at one point when the killer started towards a nearby gen so he abruptly stopped (which of course gave the loud noise notification) despite having plenty of time to finish, and ran in the opposite direction leaving me injured to take chase. People love to rag on Distortion users but I swear Bond users are worse (btw I'm not saying you are lmao just referring to your "most do the opposite").

  • Just an FYI, there was a recent change on the Offering/game info screen where it's now randomised. So it used to show who brought what offering but now its in random order. I don't know why they did this and didn't advertise it because I've seen heaps of people saying they didn't realize and have been targeting people who don't bring Cobbler only to see afterward that they did. I was BM'd like mad in one game, and a survivor saw and I guess figured the killer had good reason to do so cos they joined in (reported both), and only thing I could think was that they assumed I was the one who brought the map offering (per the info page).

Okay, so after a few tests, this is the best answer I have.

Played a match where I got lots of hooks and killed all 4 survivors, got invites and used the invite stuff constantly, and got most/all the party totems: 24,550 event points. Did not burn a Cobbler.

Played a match where I 1-hooked 1 survivor, 2-hooked a second survivor, and 3-hooked the remaining 2 survivors; got invites and used the invite stuff constantly; but I was not lucky enough for party totems to pop up: 13,050 event points. I did burn a Cobbler, which showed me getting double the amount of points for using event hooks, but apparently that amounts to diddly squat.

Finally, I played a match where I got most/all of the party totems, but I didn't really do anything else except grab invites and remote break some doors. I didn't feel like doing anything, so no one got hooked. I did burn a Cobbler, and despite the fact that accepting party totems only showed a reward of 3.5k in-match, I got 50,868 event points. Adding up the amount of points I earned from the match with multipliers and all that, the number does seem to be correct, I was actually rewarded that many points.

The only explanation for that (other than it being bugged) is, despite what it showed in-game, party totems counted for double.

I still cannot figure out how other killers who didn't get party totems earned so damn much, but whatever. The experiment shows that, in terms of event points, you need to burn a Cobbler and get lucky enough for party totems (or I guess party chests, if you're a survivor) to pop up during the match. If you don't get that random event, then you don't earn much in terms of event points.

Makes perfect sense that the stuff I put effort into doing rewards nearly nothing and the totally RNG thing that may or may not happen at all and which I may or may not be able to capitalize on is where the points are, and it requires burning a Cobbler to really pay out. Of course, I'm not playing the characters I'm putting points into; the characters I'm playing in the event don't have Cobblers, they have other BP offerings.

I did that on PS4, 'cause that's where I play killer, but I mostly play on Switch, that's where I need BP. I can't play killer on Switch, but as survivor I'm competing with 3 other survivors for the things that pay out, plus I rarely live very long so I don't earn much for the gameplay points that get the BP multiplier, either. The most I can do with this event is have fun with my friend playing survivor and consider BP gains a bonus, which shouldn't be the case for an event, but maximizing BP gains feels out of my control.

Thanks for the info! I have seen people claim that the totems and chests are the best way to earn bp but the amount of times I've been on the hook when those things go off, or the killer and others collect them first. Plus the chests aren't easy to find unless you're right near them. I've noticed a higher number of Wraiths this event and I swear it's because they wanna zoom and grab all the totems LOL

But yeah, you're right, it's out of our control ultimately. I'll have to just settle this year for minimum. Hopefully they hear our feedback and improve things next year.

  • @Seraphor said:

I think survivors are sleeping on Quiet Mode a lot. Probably because the prevalent attitude among survivors is that you run in the killers face and then loop for as long as possible and that's it, that's the extent of their gameplay aspirations, then you quit when you get downed and can't teabag. Stealth gameplay is very underappreciated on the survivors side.

I've escaped tons of chases thanks to on-demand Lucky Break/Iron Will/Off The Record. So I don't agree that survivors don't have anything.

I use it alot in chase. If I break line of sight then I use it and jump in a locker. It's good with Inner Strength too. By the time the killer thinks to come back and check the lockers I've healed up and ready to go again. Still hasn't helped me earn good bp though, which is what I actually want out of this event.

  • Hatch exists for the game to end. That's it. The game doesn't even count hatch as an escape per MMR, it's considered null and void. So I doubt they'll make any changes around it. No point in prolonging the game and making hatch stand off's a thing again.

  • Make sure you do the latest survey. One of the questions I got was about Chaos Shuffle and i made sure to select I wanted it to be permanent.

I 100% believe this is the reason and honestly? It saddens me a lot that skill doesn't seem to matter when you can just slop on perks to do it for you. I'm not even an older player, I am really new at 1000~ hours, but I want to actually see my skill carry me. Not my perks. I hate that people just put on perks to deny a bunch of my skill, and then get to act like they're super good now.

But all they did is boost themselves by throwing on perks.

This is why we need permanent Chaos Shuffle.

But they affect how killer plays.

I had quite often lobbies where there are up 2, or 3 survivors with Distortion. When I have aura reading, unless they show themselves to me, which they rarely do. Those survivors left are going to take all chases.

You can say what you want, but if you are able to take a chase, I don't believe you would use such a build, because it simply loses a purpose.

I personally don't even notice when team mates have Distortion. I played with a (I'm assuming) trio the other day that all had Distortion and Iron Will and I wouldn't have picked it. I was obviously first chase because of Lethal, but that happens sometimes even when my team mates don't have Distortion. So it wasn't out of the ordinary. I've used Distortion maybe once in the past 6 months, I just prefer other perks over it. But I'm constantly being told that I should be upset when team mates use it because they're "rats" or force the killer to tunnel me or so on. I've played for years and honestly can't pinpoint a single time a team mate specifically annoyed me with their Distortion use. I get annoyed plenty by team mates, trust me, but there's no correlation between their uselessness and Distortion use that I've noticed. I personally think it's a necessary perk option for the survivor arsenal.

Kinda funny farming is considered an issue...

From what I remember it is not really reportable anyway. As long killer won't get out of their way to punish players who won't cooperate, but even for that killer basically needs to team up with other survivors to break rules.

Since its mostly Doctors, I believe he's referring to farming bots. Those are definitely bannable.

I've personally only seen 1 in at least 12 months though, so OP has some terrible luck.

Yeah, I'm struggling with earning BP, too, and I usually understand and maximize those things. I tried out playing killer a bit on PS4, and I did matches where I double hooked everyone as well as matches where I killed everyone, and I used event hooks and avoided basement hooks, and my BP was not much if any better than a normal non-event match. As survivor, I tried focusing on gens as well as going for the Party Totems and Chests, and I go for invites and activate Quiet mode every chance I get, and I don't get that much for it. I certainly don't profit the way I did last year.

I constantly feel like I don't know what to do with this event.

Exactly. I had a game where a team mate died very early to a Tombstone Myers. Per the HUD, they'd co-completed a gen with another survivor and I saw them unhook the first down but then get grabbed by the Myers near the hook and killed. Despite me being the sole escape that game, that person had the highest bp. I wish I could have asked them how they did it after only spending a few minutes in the game.

  • I just wish I knew how to maximise bp. Last year's event I was getting like 300k average per game. I got so much Prestiging done. This year I'm getting maybe 120k average per game. The only games I'm getting good bp on are the ones where killers purposely two hook everyone then just let us go. I had 3 of those killers in a row yesterday and it was great. But I've said a few times now that locking bp gains behind the mercy of my opponent shouldn't be a thing. My ability to gain bp during the event shouldn't depend on my opponent's mood. That's not fair on survivors or killers.

I have 3700 hours in this game but im matched with survivors less than 400 hours. Killer on the other hand is someone with 9000 hours and those 400 hour survivors wont last more than 20 seconds. This should not happen.

There is a chance that the matchmaker does this to keep things balanced. For every team that has Survivors who can barely last 10-20 sec in chase, the team probably has one really good looper who can run the Killer for multiple minutes. So in the matchmakers eyes the skills offset each other thus making the game “equal”.

I’m not saying you should feel good about this or accept it or anything like that. Just that I think it is an intended feature of the mmr to keep good Survivors separated from each other. If the matchmaker created teams of players of equal skill level the KR would probably plummet since it’s no longer people forming their own 4 man swf but now the matchmaker forming as many powerful teams as possible.

It would be an interesting experiment to see the matchmaker for a modifier pit the best of the best against each other and with each other.

I don't think it's fair on the more experienced survivors to be expected to carry the team, personally

Is there a reason you're playing the event?

I must admit I have no first hand experience (I plan to play a few event matches so I can get Kate's and Yun's masks, but only as killer, and I'm waiting for fast queues and queue bonus, right now it's 150% on survivor all around the clock even late at night), but from what I've seen in streams it's pretty bad for survivors. Maximally sweaty killers, one streamer said "going to the dentist for root treatment would be like a vacation after this event". Another DbD main streamer let the community vote after really frustrating matches whether they wanted to continue to see DbD or play something else because she thought that those sweaty matches weren't fun to watch, and the community overwhelmingly voted to stop with DbD and play something else.

I haven't played a lot at all lately as my experience has already been miserable enough. Yesterday I found enough courage to play a handful of matches, but I played regular non-event queue … to my surprise, the matches went really well, I escaped every single of them. The killers were as bad and clueless as always but the survivors were considerably better than what I usually get. Probably all the "I just play for the giggles and don't mind if we all die with 5 gens left" folks are playing the event queue right now. And I had a blood point bonus on regular queue even though it was late evening when the bonus is usually on killer.

"Another DbD main streamer let the community vote after really frustrating matches whether they wanted to continue to see DbD or play something else because she thought that those sweaty matches weren't fun to watch, and the community overwhelmingly voted to stop with DbD and play something else"

Yeah I usually watch DBD streams but the event has me all DBD'd out lol I've been watching Still Wakes The Deep and now Elden Ring streams

  • Alot of people are being just awful, on both killer and survivor side. Truly this event has brought the trolls out of their caves. I wish it was more clear on how to earn bloodpoints too because I'm still not sure.

  • The game has changed since old Iron Will. There's a multitude of tracking and info perks at the killers disposal this time around.

  • @Veritere said:

I've stopped caring about it. Pretty much don't play nowadays. Matchmaking is terrible, killers only camp or tunnel and games are so opressive and unbalanced that I can't play more than 3 or 4 matches without going to another game.

Maybe someday they'll finally do something about solo q and I will come back to play regularly. Until then, good luck to everyone else that bothers playing solo only.

This is called apathy, and it's not good when players start to feel like this. I see it in alot of survivor main circles (and I'm feeling it too) these days. The end result is likely that more and more spaces become echo chambers for killer mains, who then have more of an opportunity to dictate survivor changes than survivor mains do themselves.

Maybe you don't remember, but I do: Iron Will was everywhere before the nerf. It was right below the big four (Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline, Dead Hard) in terms of its usage and strength. Being completely silent when you're injured is a MASSIVE advantage in chase.

I'm guessing you don't play Killer much and don't understand just how much the Killer relies on sound, both to find survivors who are hiding and to keep track of where they are during a chase. With no sound cues, you can often just duck into a Killer's blind spot mid-chase and just like that, you're gone.

Old Iron Will was in a different time. The game has changed since then, killers have a multitude of other ways to track survivors that bypass just tracking by line of sight or sound. Absolutely it provides an advantage, but that's exactly what a perk should do. It has a limitation that old Iron Will didn't have and for that reason I don't think it will be back in meta. It will rise in popularity but being part of the meta would mean it provides more value than an Exhaustion perk, which, with all the anti-loop killers we have nowadays, I don't think is true.

I don't really understand what your saying about the bbq and nurses part. Are you saying you played when the only aura reading was nurses and BBQ? Cause distortion till darkness among us and didn't become problematic till they reworked it.

Ok am I missing something why is everyone saying full aura builds so often? Are they actually that common? And if it is why is it a problem on any killer that isn't S tier and a few A tiers? I can understand why it's a problem on nurse but that isn't aura reading being too strong that's just nurse.

Anyway the idea of losing all your tokens that fast implies either your team is already losing by a lot and BBQ is consuming stacks or the killer is dedicating their build to aura reading and have 0 slowdown.

This is more a question of fun but what exactly is fun for survivors if they don't want to get chased? I actually do want to know cause I don't see why you would want to sit on a gen the entire time or hide. Obviously there are times where you want to hide instead but enough times to justify distortion to stay as is?

Game sense only works if the play makes sense. Hiding in a corner or a locker for the entire game isn't logical at all. Distortion also kills perk variety which, needless to say, isn't really much.

You said that not having an aura reading on the killer is a problem as you don't know where to go. My point re Nurses and BBQ was that once upon a time killers didn't have the abundance of aura perks they have now and most managed to find survivors just fine.

People are talking about full aura builds because most of the arguments around Distortion being problematic are that "it counters entire aura builds." Including on this thread.

You're assuming that people who use Distortion use it purely to hide the entire game. I'm a survivor main and can rarely pick if a team mate has Distortion because they die just as easily as the rest of us. Your solution of recharging tokens just turns Distortion into a killer perk. It makes the survivors come to you.

  • Everyone is being awful this event. Not just killers tunnelling, though I've honestly had only a few of those. I've got team mates farming off hook in front of the killer, teaming up with the killer and griefing, leaving each other to second stage on first hook or even to die on hook.

I just had a game where the killer had literally moved to the opposite side of the map from where I was hooked (could see her kicking a gen with Alert) and I still got left to second stage. Then, same game, no one is touching the last gen so I end up doing it despite being injured on death hook and I die for it, just to watch my team mates fast vaulting back and forth in front of the exit to annoy the killer. I regret doing that last gen. I should have just twiddled my thumbs like they were. Don't know what they were showing off about, they were useless.

Also, in all my years of playing I have literally only twice gone to the effort of uploading a video to report players griefing and today was my second time. I don't know what is wrong with people this week. Grow up.
