  • It's the anonymity of the internet. Messing with someone in real life comes with the risk of a fist to the face. Hiding behind a computer screen is safe and people feel emboldened. Thankfully though, in my personal experience, most people are fine. Bad eggs are few and far between. I suppose it depends on what you consider griefing. Some things I don't take personally.

Yea I mean I dont really know what that has to do with a broken permanent aura read but sure? Maybe?

Not really sure what toolboxes or flashlights have to do with it.

Exactly lol I've stopped bringing items completely because killers don't seem to bring F+WA unless the whole team has items (it's pretty much in 100% of my games when there's 4 items, about 40% when there's 3, and I've only seen it twice in a game with 2 items or less). Not because I care about my items but because of giving the killer permanent aura read. That has a much stronger affect on the outcome of my games than one or two flashlight saves or a short bit of gen progress that will be removed with Pain Res anyway. If the issue was items then just Franklin's would have been the issue beforehand, but it wasn't.

Right. I just tried to throw him a bone.

The problem with the person I quoted and killer mains like him is that they’re average or below in terms of skill but they watch Otzdarva and LilithsOmen and Hens or whatever other content creator they fancy and convince themselves that these highly skilled players are their equals.

Most of these people commenting like the person I quoted play mid mmr (like BHVR consistently says; most players are in fact mid mmr) and aren’t consistently good. But they convince themselves survivors are so overwhelmingly strong because they see the caliber of survivors Otzdarva or whomever they admire face and then, in their low skill trials, come to believe they’re facing the cream of the crop like those content creators. That, and they’ve probably cheesed their way to a caliber of opponent they can’t actually handle due to cheap tricks.

So they cook up these crazy lies and conspiracies and attempt to warp BHVR’s data instead of accepting that they aren’t as good as they believe. I believe it’s called cognitive dissonance: when people adopt extreme beliefs out of deep discomfort with the truth?

I challenge this perspective any time I see it on these forums because it influences the game in negative ways for survivor, and that disturbs me.

Honestly, if everyone who has come through here claiming to be in high MMR actually was, it'd consist of like 50% of the playerbase.

I think another factor is that low MMR survivors are alot easier for killers to stomp through that once they hit mid MMR they think they've reached high MMR. The devs have said before that killers most people consider weak (like Trapper and Legion) perform exceptionally well in low MMR. Their MMR likely increases faster than their skill, so they stagnate for a time and think it means they've reached high MMR.

  • They went kind of cheap on the info it provides, but still a good perk for newer players i think

Now that you mention it, is the fog only gone when versing Dracula? I've played against him so much that I'm unsure now if it's missing against other killers too. That would make sense if it was just Dracula, so his castle was visible. On the plus side I can find the exit gates alot easier too lol

That's not what works best or else I wouldn't have made a forum account to discuss the very thing that I cared about. Don't you reckon?

As Mandy said above, the devs already tested this change last year with a subset of the playerbase and the results were positive. So I'll take their word over yours. Best of luck!

I feel like you didn't read the part about killer not being able to see prestiges in any scenario.

And I was addressing the first half of your comment claiming that this update was a bandaid solution to the lobby dodging problem. I explained exactly why that's the solution that works best.

  • My accounts (Twitch and console) always unlink from my BHVR account. I have to reset it all whenever a new set of drops starts. I'd log in and double check everything is still linked.

  • Nemesis tends to have a reputation already, mostly for tunnelling, but honestly they're all pretty normal in my games. He recently got a buff so it could be that people are trying him for the first time and while they're learning have to resort to those tactics to get a kill

  • I've faced him plenty, that's really unusual. Had a few other killers scattered in there but he's been pretty consistent for me.

  • @Oxah said:

This lobby shopping solution seems like a band-aid to excuse the worthless mmr system, im not trying to show off how comp I am. I am trying to enjoy what i enjoy ever since i started playing this game, grinding bloodpoints and seeing how far my friends are into their journey. Let me do that in peace and enjoy the satisfaction i get from it.

The matchmaking system can't work efficiently if people bypass it. It's as simple at that. The whole point of skill-based matchmaking is that the game finds your opponents. You aren't supposed to pick your own. If the game can't find a group of survivors a killer (ie because the killers keep dodging based on prestiges) then it broadens its range and that's how poor new killers wind up facing more experienced survivors. Likewise, the dodging killer can keep going until they land a group of less experienced survivors to steamroll. Of course SBMM seems "worthless" when people refuse to let it work properly.

  • @BlackRose89 said:

Personally I love the fact I can't see survivors prestige levels as killer. No longer will I get into a lobby with p100s and admittedly get nervous about how hard the upcoming match will be. I know prestige doesn't equal skill but it's a mind thing where I psych myself out. I also agree with Mandy that making it a opinion will only make lobby shopping on both sides wrost.

On a personal level I just don't understand why you and others even care about showing off. Trust me most ppl really don't care that you p100 your favorite character. I never once looked at a p100 survivor and fan girl over them for loving that one character. I honestly don't really care. If you want to p100 someone you should do it bc you want to not bc you want to show off to others. To me it seems pretty egotistical to think most people actually cares you decided to dump millions and millions of BP into one single character. Also ppl can still see your level in the endgame screen so what the big difference? You still showing off your level it just at the end of a match instead at the beginning which how it should be in my opinion.

"Trust me most ppl really don't care that you p100 your favorite character"

Exactly lol I'm seeing these people talking about not being able to show off their P100s in lobby but like, nobody actually cares..

I'm barely even glancing at my team mates prestiges in endgame now before moving on because I've just played a whole game with them and their prestige no longer tells me anything about their skill (which it didn't before really either, but as you said, you'd get an expectation in your mind when you saw their prestige in lobby and make a determination on whether they were a strong player or not).

  • It took me way too long to work out what was different about the maps 😅

  • Yeah I was thinking the same the other day. I understand the devs reasoning for why they don't want people to feel P100 is a goal, but I think a badge or banner of that particular survivor or killer would be good. It's not as controversial as giving something like a cosmetic (which is a popular request).

  • The last two Doctors I faced were afk lol I wouldn't mind a good Doctor game tbh

  • I feel like Blast Mine + RM would be good for countering NTH. Might give it a whirl since I see that perk alot.

  • @ChuckingWong said:

How does me playing with people that are just going to hide and int their team so they can get their adept hatch help anything?

It's only been a couple of days. I'd say we need to give it at least a month to see if matchmaking improves. Also a new chapter just came out, so yeah, the first week is typically people trying for adept. The whole point of the change was to stop lobby dodging and see if matchmaking accuracy improves. So if it's stopping you from lobby dodging then it sounds like it's working lol

  • I only learned of this achievement when it popped up as completed. I use Alert so that must have done it.

  • Just went against the Twins using this build. We all left with about 2k each.

  • Thanks! Last time I had a non-gameplay issue I was told it doesn't belong in the Bugs section so wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning there

  • It hasn't even been a full day since he was released. Top MMR survivors are experienced players, why would you expect to do better than them on a new killer you've only been learning to play for like 15 hours?

  • I get that too lol just click the Dead by Daylight picture and follow through to Manage Twitch Drops, they should be there

It's hilarious seeing the meltdowns in the other forums about his. It reminds me of when Hunt: Showdown banned Reshade. Everyone was raging saying "I'm colorblind", "its too dark it looks bad", and on and on. I will say Reshade was much worse in Hunt as there were ways to use it to explicitly cheat, while in dbd it's more subtle things like making the red stain and scratch marks more noticeable and such. Still I think it is best for the game to have an even playing field as much as possible and I mean we all know most of the people complaining are not colorblind, they just want their slight advantage.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I have bad eyesight (thanks dad for the shoddy genetics) but I just play with glasses, and don't BHVR have colour blind settings? I imagine most do use it for the advantage

  • I don't believe so as it acts more like an override

  • No. I almost have my first P100 and am fine with this change. Matchmaking leaves alot to be desired and if minimising lobby dodging helps matchmaking be more accurate then that matters more to me than showing off my prestige in lobby.

  • Oh no :( I'm pretty sure there is no way to unmerge once it's done

  • I feel like Eli Roth could work. I know he branched out into action/adventure recently (Borderlands) but he's a familiar name and face in horror. Doesn't hurt that he's gorgeous af.

  • For me it's intent. If you purposely leave me on the ground to bleed out then I think that's bm. If you slug me and there are other survivors around and you have the opportunity to apply pressure, then whatever. That's being efficient. If you bring a slugging build then I'm lenient because perks like Knock Out make it clear what you're aiming for and the team should change tactics and play accordingly (can be hard in solo queue, that goes without saying). Had a GF with a slugging build yesterday and he only ended up with a 1k, having changed tactics halfway through the game when it was clear it wasn't going to work but we had the upper hand by then.

The only one that really annoys me is the slugging for the 4k. You've won, hatch is meaningless, just duke it out with the last person and let me move onto the next game. When I get a killer who does this I just think to myself that he takes this game way too seriously and needs to touch grass.

  • Not sure these changes will make it more appealing but I'll try reserve judgement and give it a go. Giving survivors a point of reference with the lamps is good, and being able to run with them will help the game mode feel less disorientating. But since it's hard to know the killer is coming until they're practically right on top of you, I feel like it will be easy enough for them to smack it from your hand early on in chase anyway. But again, I'll reserve judgement until i actually play it.

  • I had a game a couple days ago where two Sables managed to convince a GF to farm. I don't like farming, but the third survivor seemed okay to go along with it. I motioned to the killer that I wanted out and he tried to get me out, but the Sables were painful about it and tried to get me to stay. They were starting to behave a bit trollish. GF managed to get them to back off and I let go on hook. Out of curiosity, I spectated to see if they'd turn on the third survivor and sure enough, they had cornered her and kept pointing for the GF to down her. He did, but when they started tbagging her, he Exposed and downed the Sables then hooked them both lmao I wish more killers were like that. He was willing to mess around but when they started BMing he was having none of it. Thankfully I don't come across these sorts of trolls often.

  • Definitely do not want to play with bots lol even though you have no communication in solo queue, you still manage to communicate in some degree and have an understanding of general unspoken rules (eg coordinated endgame saves, avoiding 3 gens, etc). You don't have that with bots. They just do what theyre programmed to do.

I have my issues with team mates but overall I don't see alot of griefing or trolling. I see those things more often these days than I did in the past but not to a huge degree, or enough that it impacts my overall enjoyment. Most of the things people find unpleasant in this game - DCs, letting go on hook, tunneling, camping, slugging etc - are certainly unpleasant to me too, but they're the exception and not the norm in my games thankfully.

  • It's good they're bringing it back for the folks who enjoyed it. I'm just gonna grit my teeth and do the Tome lol

  • I watched this live last night lmao was cracking up

  • Use 4 if you like, it's your game afterall. In general though most killers I face tend to only use 1 or 2 and do fine

  • What needs to happen first and foremost is a matchmaking improvement. I just played two games, one where I literally ran some poor baby killer for 5 gens to a 4 escape. My very next game was a cracked Nurse who wiped the floor with us at 5 gens. They're currently taking the step of addressing lobby dodging by hiding prestige, and I'm hopeful we might see a slight improvement when less people are bypassing and messing up the matchmaking system. I think we wait and see how that goes and if it makes games feel better.

  • I've played her a fair bit and I'm pretty sure it's just lobby lines on the odd occasion. I think because she doesn't have all that many lines, around 20 or so I think. Compared to Nic Cage who has a total of like 10 minutes of voice lines. I think the Rain skin is meant to be like a cross promotional type of thing, so the actress was probably simply contracted to supply a handful of lines.

Root causes? More than half of them are just "I don't love to go against # killer". Tell me how you want to solve this? Delete killer role is fantastic way for you, I know, but what if we need they to stay? I hate going against Spirit from the bottom of my heart, but I don't remember I throw any game without trying in 5 years.
I had a lot of teammates give up on hook in the middle of really close amazingly interesting games for 0 real reasons. Root cause here is many survivors hate even trying to survive and prefer gen sim to anything else, how are you about solving this?
Truth is that community is a spoiled child and now, of course, any normal measures will be painful. But solving this "root causes" is also not an option, because we already have survivors throwing matches for any tiny reason, and no matter how much you will try to solve any of them, of course there will always be new ones. This is simply what spoiled child is. And sooner or later he needs to be told "enough is enough".

If you've played for 5 years then you undoubtedly remember a time where letting go on hook wasn't the issue it apparently is now. So do you think survivors are a hive mind who all suddenly woke up one day and decided to be spoiled brats for giggles? Something has fundamentally changed in the game and honestly, the only people who would know what are the devs. They'd have all the stats. I also recall you posting not long ago a quite high escape and kill rate (80% and 90% or something to that degree if I'm recalling correctly). It stood out to me because that's quite the outlier. It seems team mates letting go on hook doesn't impact the outcome of your games much, so is it just the fun factor they're taking away from you? We all know the common sentiment of this playerbase ("I'm not responsible for your fun"), is it time for that to change?

  • I definitely see it more than I did a year ago, but not enough that it affects my games. I'm sick as a dog at the moment so playing alot more than I usually do since I'm stuck on the couch, and yesterday I only had 2 games where a team mate gave up - only 1 was early game though, the other mid game - and one where I did (2 Sables convinced the GF to farm, and i don't enjoy farming so they let me leave. Not sure that counts). I also had two killer DCs, and one killer give up (went afk).

Not really sure about high MMR as better survivors are much less prone to tunneling anyway

My thoughts are based on the general consensus I tend to hear from those apparently in high MMR. "You have to tunnel to stand a chance in high MMR" is a common sentiment. Not having been in high MMR myself, I'll take them at their word.

  • He's always been common for me

  • Resurgence is amazing now, highly recommend. I used to always bring a medkit but since Weave + Franklin's boomed I've stopped bringing items and the buff to Resurgence came at the right time.

  • I tracked my survivor games for a time (got to approx 421 games off the top of my head) and I averaged a tunneller once every 12 games or so. I'd put myself in the mid- MMR range, and I generally play from about 10am to midday on the days I play. I think those two things may play a factor in how often I see it. I'd imagine it may happen more often during peak times and more often in higher MMR brackets.

  • I liked what they did in 2v8, where you could pick yourself up on death hook. It would certainly help this issue at any rate, if it only kicked in when 2 are left

  • Ultimately they're costing their team time by following you around. It's annoying for you but the alternative is they're on a gen.

  • I wouldn't use the usage rate on Nightlight as the deciding factor on whether something needs to be nerfed or not. Like I'm pretty sure Nowhere to Hide has the same usage rate on the killer side as Iron Will, yet I feel like alot of killers would be pretty annoyed if that was used to justify a nerf on that perk. I mean, the requirement on that (kicking a gen) is kind of low too. Let's just let both sides have something useful for once.

  • Always loved this movie. I'd be down for a chapter

  • I play between 10am and midday. I find it's alot more chill. I tend to avoid weekends and night time

I could say that about the survivors too, when they hide for hatch instead of do gens. So now what?

Now you tab out and go watch YouTube, as OP said

  • @caipt said:

Yeah so just tab out and watch some youtube or something. Actually trying to comeback in the kind of situation will probably take longer and get you nowhere. Besides what right does the survivor team have to complain about the killer denying hatch? Both sides do whatever and anything they can do get the 4-out or 4k if the opportunity arises.

You say slugging for the 4k is not a problem because the solution is to just go watch YouTube instead of, you know, playing the game you bought and loaded up to play. Your argument just emphasises how it's a problem.

  • They also said DBD will be featured in an episode, I'm guessing they're going to have contestants dress as the original killers. It'd be cool if they had Fog Whisperers like Deere and DragTrashly as guest judges.
