A not insignificant portion of the playerbase derives enjoyment from making the other side have as little fun as possible. It's not so much about winning for them. It's the griefer mentality.

This. You see it on the flipside too with those survivors who have no intention of doing gens, they just want to harass the killer until they DC. Some people just get a kick out of making others miserable.

  • The official DBD Discord literally has swf rooms, which provides voice comms. If they had any intention of eliminating it then I'd doubt they'd offer that in the first place.

  • Go back two weeks ago and this forum was flooded with complaints from *killers* about her. How weak she is, how basic, how frustrated they are at the devs, and how they aren't going to even buy her (and evidently they're not - I'm not seeing alot of people playing her). It's interesting that this narrative has now become all about how survivors are receiving her, how survivors need to learn to outplay her, when BHVR has had a huge influx of negative feedback from killers too. So maybe you got what you wanted, but it doesn't feel like the general community did.

  • You need to step outside your comfort zone. Don't go into games worrying about escaping or killing. Go into the games with the sole intention of gaining experience and building confidence. The rest will come naturally once you've achieved those.

  • I'm so confused. You don't like chases or pallets, then why do you play?

The way the game is designed is that survivors start at an advantage with plenty of resources at their disposal. As the game progresses, they waste those resources and the game starts to slide in the killers favour. It's why many survivors will tell you that a couple gens popping early in their games mean nothing to them. Because survivors have seen many of those games end with a 4k with x gens still to go. Of course you're going to have to deal with chase and pallets - you *want* those things gone. You want dead zones. You are faster than survivors and will take them down quicker in dead zones. Yes, more experienced survivors will be better at not wasting resources but the vast majority of players don't care and will throw them.

This is all just basic gameplay.

Standing in one spot for 30/40+ minutes is not playing the game. You're not doing yourself any favours, you're not learning anything. You're just wasting everyone's time. I'm a solo survivor with a crappy escape rate. Most of us are. I die way more than i survive. That's because it's a challenging game, and it's *supposed* to be a challenging game. A 45min stalemate is not playing the game.

Did everyone forget a few weeks ago when killers were spamming everything mangled status when it was bugged to slow down a bunch of other things?

Or when Oni was getting twice the blood he was supposed to for 6 months?

Yeah, and I hadn't seen Spirit in like 2 months and suddenly they're everywhere once her directional phasing is bugged. None of that stuff was killswitched either.

the 3 gen defense has been a core strategy actually for years, its just that not many killers new about and/or employed it, even though it was talked about in basically every single "learn killer tutorial" video I ever watched. Its a bit akin to splitting up on gens: this was always the most effective way to play, yet prior to 6.1 most survivors didn't care as they could do pretty well without. 6.1 forced them to split up, and now it's basically the expected way of doing things.

This is the other side of the gameplay medal: over the years, change in the meta and gameplay have ironed out imperfections and inefficiencies on both sides play book and now even casuals can play like a pro from a couple years back.

We can't put the genie back in the bottle and make players unlearn tactics, but BHVR could do a big health update and try to factory zero a couple of developments, by doing some bold and sweeping changed to the games formula.

3 gens have always been part of the game, but you could still see progress in the past. It was slow progress but it was a determined 'okay, we can do this' thing, as opposed to the current 'yeah there's no point' when you come back to a gen you've been working on repeatedly for 10 minutes and oops, now it's back at zero. You don't want to spend another 10 minutes, knowing it will probably end up back at 0% anyway and you're just wasting your time. And you've likely hit max gen bloodpoints at that stage too, so you aren't even getting anything for your efforts.

It's not the 3 gen strat that is the issue, it's the gen regression perks that typically accompany it. That creates the perfect stalemate. Past 3 gens you could still knuckle down and keep progress, while the killer reaped the benefit of extra hooks and kills. There was still progress. The inability to gain progress now is what is dragging the games out.

  • This is by design, particularly if you play solo. Devs want kill rates at around 60%, so survivors have to lose more than they win. Playing in a swf increases your chances of survival by up to 15%, so solo players make up the bulk of the kills. There's a reason one of the most common killer requests is wanting to know in advance if the survivors are a swf, so that they can comfortably dodge. Solo teams are easier to kill. It's just the reality of the game. They can't buff survivors in general as it will empower swfs, which in turn will throw the kill rates out.

  • Killers can actually get up there too, same with the wagon on Dead Dawg. Could be why they've left it until next patch?

  • Yes please. I'm not usually interested in cosmetics but I like this one

  • Yeah sometimes the real killer is your teammate/s

  • I don't blame anyone. I lose more than I win, but that's by design. I don't have any expectations going into a match so I avoid disappointment and just move on after. Some people are better at this game than I am, simple.

    Killers were buffed.

Latest stats show that Survivors have only a 38% escape rate at high MMR.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/V1Z0Y0FUUZSC/kill-rates-png.png

Due to the Eruption change and the buff to Solo's, I'd expect the Kill Rates to even out around 57%. However, that's completely speculation. I'd expect that the Devs will want to wait and see how the Kill Rates look. I'd expect changes in the next Chapter release or after, as that gives adequate time to allow things to settle in a post-Eruption world.

That chart was from Sept '22. The Eruption/gen kick meta really only became popular around Nov '22. I'd wager kill rates would have actually increased at that time and probably are falling back to around the same rates as the image

  • I don't think they ever said it was a certainty. If I'm remembering correctly, Mandy said they didn't anticipate the solo QOL to have much impact but they'd be observing it and will make changes if needed. Only killer update that's been promised is Twins.

  • I'm honestly not even sure what they can do. There's no way any of this was an oversight, because people had her figured out mere minutes into their first PTB game and she was still released.

The devs have said 3-genning is a valid strategy. Killers have every right to try and kill you, since, you know, that's their job and all. And 3-genning is one (very good) way to do that. What people don't seem to get is, the killer isn't there to make your game last less than 45 minutes. He has no responsibility to make your game shorter.

I only play solo survivor. I've had many a 3gen used against me. Some I won, some I lost, but every time the game was absolutely fair. Just because you don't like a strategy doesn't mean the strategy is abuse.

The devs may be fine with 3 genning, but you might wanna read back on the Reassurance saga that happened several months ago before thinking they'd be fine with stalemate 45 minute games.

Basically, 5 friends decided to play KYF and test the limits of the new Reassurance perk. They kept their friend in game for the full hour. Many killer mains on this forum expressed concern about survivors being able to stall the game for others for that long (even though killers obviously had the means to ensure the game could still progress). The devs agreed and nerfed the perk into the ground.

So I'm not sure why if it wasn't okay for survivors to stall the game for that long back then, why they'd suddenly be okay with killers stalling the game now.

Honestly Its been so long I forgot how much darker Ormond was before the update.

I 100% agree no map should be set in daylight or even near dawn in my opinion. They should all have a darker & tone & look. (While not being so dark you litterally can't see what you're doing!)

There should also probably be a thick (ish) fog as standard on every map so you can't stand at opposite ends & wave to each other (again without making it impossible to see 5 feet in front of you)

Welcome to the fog has little meaning these days there really isn't any of note even when offerings are used.

Can't really comment on the skull merchant part of your post because I don't personally mind her (other than game play styles but hey each to their own on that front)

She doesn't especially fit the horror category that well in a similar way to a lot not liking or wanting Trickster, but she is different (good or bad depending on individual pov's) & better to have variety.

There did used to be fog on the maps and I remember reading that it ended up being too difficult for console to run, so the fog was removed. Not sure if that's actually the truth but I read it awhile ago in a discussion.

    'Didn't you have fun genrushing?'

One really trashy gen speed-up perk across the four of them does not constitute 'genrushing'.

What's funnier is OP currently has another thread going where they're complaining about 4 man swfs running meta builds lol guess they don't mean these games?

  • Wish I had this much time on my hands

  • Nurse. It's an inevitable down as I don't think I've ever had a nurse drop chase on me, but I enjoy trying

For the first time ever I can't say I blame anyone that dcs against her. I haven't had the displeasure of playing against her yet and I'm more than happy about it. Hopefully that won't change until her inevitable rework in a few months.

I can't blame them either. I've always been very anti-DC and if I saw a team mate trying to let go on hook I'd drop everything to go and unhook them immediately. Now though, when a team mate DCs or lets go in a SM game I don't even care. I actually feel like the bad person insisting they stay.

  • @Caiman said:

Didn't survivors start ragequitting en masse in protest to try to revert the meta shake-up a while back like the Decisive Strike and Dead Hard nerfs? Didn't seem to work though, maybe they didn't ragequit hard enough.

No. The only people I saw claiming that were killer mains. I'm a solo survivor who frequents survivor spaces and never once saw any sort of coordinated effort or anything of the kind. It was a silly conspiracy theory.

  • I don't hate 3 genning. I hate long a** games. 3 genning used to be something survivors did as a mistake, and while it used to make the game *slightly* longer and benefit killers with more hooks and kills, you'd still see progression. The way SM is designed, combined with certain perks, has created a stalemate in games where the only way to progress is hand her the hook so you can move on.

Most people have real life commitments and sometimes you just wanna slip in a quick 15 min game here and there. It has nothing to do with wanting to win - I'm a solo survivor, I'm fine with my low escape rate. Her games are just way too long for way too little reward/bp. I can earn the same amount of bp in a 15 min game with any other killer than I could in a 45 min SM game.

  • Renato has really bad posture, I feel bad for him

not really, I was clear about what I said, you didn't want to understand it

1: she has to engage in loop or down you at the generator, she'll have to hook or slug you (hey, isn't that a game strategy?) which you'll die either way.

I was clearly talking about a match that's going on for TOO LONG.

If you don't want to stay in that match, there's nothing the killer can do you keep you there, IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE.

The OP is literally complaining about people giving up. I'm seeing more and more comments along the lines of 'survivors are keeping themselves in these long games just as much as killers,' which leads me to assume some popular content creator has developed that take because it's usually what's happened when everyone starts parroting the same line. But giving up is literally what survivors *are* doing in this situation, and then people come here complaining about it.

Killer mains: if you dont want to be stuck in a long game then just give up, the killer isnt keeping you there.

Also killer mains: don't give up because then I can't enjoy this killer

  • They can't really do anything about the gen spawns though. One of the biggest requests they get is for maps to be smaller. If maps were bigger then gen spawns wouldn't be an issue, but they'd just anger half the playerbase if they did that.

  • Deja Vu shows you the 3 gens closest to each other. It's not needed because SM will show you those 3 gens within 30 seconds of the game starting by placing a drone above them.

  • I was watching a streamer last night who ducked out of a long SM game. He obviously felt bad because he kept apologising, saying as a content creator he should stick with these games even if they are a slog. A viewer then donated $200 to him under the condition that he duck out of every SM game that stream lol they said no one wants to watch a SM game. That's how bad it is. Someone actually parted with $200 for a SM-free stream.

  • @Grum said:

They'll buff her in every way she doesn't need it, and make her even more eye-rollingly annoying to play against; just like they do every time they release a flop of a killer.

I can't believe you people are still whining about Dead Hard.

SM extends games by 30 min. DH extends chases by 30 seconds. It's the same thing! /s

  • @Tishus said:

Survivors got dejabu perk to counter that, so dont know why they are crying.

Lol we know where the 3 gen is. She's parked her drones within 30 seconds of the game starting.

  • I can deal with 3 gen situations, it's just the length of time that these games get dragged out for that makes it frustrating. It used to be a mistake survivors would make that would benefit killers with extra hooks and a kill or two. But you could still slowly make progress back then. Now it's become more like a stalemate.

I can't speak for the devs but I imagine they'd be okay with the 3 gen situation as a strategy, as it is of course a strategy, whichever way we wanna look at it. It's just this strategy is going to end up more and more with survivors just handing themselves up to killers because it's been 45 min and they have real life to get back to. And I'm seeing this more and more. People get home from work and want a few games and some decent bp, not one long a** game that isn't worth it bp wise. Maybe for every 5 min your game goes past 25 min or something, you get extra bp and xp? I dunno. But people aren't sticking around for these games anymore.

  • For me, it's the killers who one hook everyone first, then two hook, then start the sacrificing. To me, you'd have to have real confidence in your skills to pull that off. Especially as you knowingly run the risk of everyone escaping. So when I think of skilled killers, that's who comes to mind. The ones who can pull that off. For survivors, it's the ones that have learned every tile. Time is very important in these games, and good loopers make the most of it.

  • If it's your first time playing survivor then you would be on a lower MMR bracket, so the killers probably feel a bit easier to compete with. But yeah, I'm a survivor main for a reason lol I enjoy killer every now and then but I definitely have to be in the mood as my brain requires a lot more constant engagement. I wouldn't say stressful, as I don't care if I win or lose, but i just need to be more switched on. As survivor, I'm much more switched off.

  • I think it's just the DLCs for half price this time around

  • @solarjin1 said:

i think behavior did a decent job oddly enough. The drones look cool and she got amazing add ons. Her ability to force 3gens is annoying tho.

Pretty much my feelings too. I like the concept, I like her look, and the drones add something different. But her 3 gen gameplay will get stale fast, as most people dont have time for those sorts of long drawn out games. I think she will get more DCs and survivors letting go on hook than Nurse ever did.

  • Project W is the same price as Tools of Torment on my end

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with having a mix tbh. Like Myers is considered a weak killer yet he's the only killer that actually makes me anxious to play against. And alot of people hate Nurse with a passion, whereas she's always been one of my most enjoyable killers to go up against. I think it's totally fine not to enjoy playing against certain killers, but I'm personally glad for the mix, even if their counter is boring.

  • It happens. I've had a few comments I've left that have disappeared. I read through the rules each time, to see if I said anything that was against them but can never pick it. I just assume my comment was maybe skating the line so the mods removed it.

  • I've just moved fully to PS5 from the Switch and starting over is hard, so I definitely would have liked 75k lol no complaints here

  • Played a game not long ago against her but the killer was unsure of how to play her, and decided to just practice using the drones and see how she worked. She just let us do our thing while she played around. Was a bit bummed not to get an actual game, but she let me hack her drones and test how it all worked from a survivor perspective.

  • Never. I usually make initial judgements on the people I'm matched with, and alot of the time they surprise me by being nothing like I thought they would be. So I don't dodge ever.

  • 9pm here and still 100% survivor. Usually this is the time it starts switching to killer, but I think everyone is home from work and playing new killer in my region

So far no attempt was done to bring killers on the same level as swf squads. It's almost like the devs only play one role.

I had another post further down that mentioned their typical waiting/observation period. The solo QOL update only came out 6 weeks ago. They always have a waiting period. It took several months to even give solo queue this update after they were disproportionately affected by the 6.1 update. We were patient.

And what's the verdict on that? Still one sided for SWF and one sided for killer vs randoms?

They usually have a waiting/observation period of at least a couple months. I'd say next mid-chapter update might have further info.

  • 100% survivor all day today for me

  • Tbh they're kind of just reading the room. With that whole Daddy Myers, Daddy Wesker, the outrage when they altered Pyramid Head's behind, all the shirtless survivors (but in particular Vittorio), this community just laps it up. It was the girls turn sooner or later.

  • So did a Leon lmao I actually stopped what I was doing because I was concerned he had glitched and was going to scream for the entirety of the match

  • It's probably going to happen alot more unfortunately, now that you no longer need 12 hooks. 4 kills means it's easier to just tunnel and/or slug, and most of the DCs I see in my games are often due to those two things.

  • I don't see many DCs against Nemesis or Wesker at all, so that's surprising. Legion has always inspired people to duck out early, and Knight isn't very popular either. So the latter two I'm not surprised to hear.
