You're acting offended that people told you truth. The way MMR works is more wins/ harder opponents. That works for survivors AND killers.

This really isn’t true, though. We all know through experience that the matchmaking systems functionally does not work because it heavily prioritizes speed over fairness. Lots of people on this forum, myself included, are constantly going back and forth between matches filled with noobs and matches filled with 5,000 hour+ sweat lords. Doesn’t matter how many matches I win or lose.

  • @Saiph said:

You're not losing because of the game balance, you're losing because you are being matched against 5000+ hour players.

The player count is at an all time low. You, as a casual player, expect the game to match you against other casual players, and it seems that's why other people advise to lower your MMR. But what you're all missing, is that there aren't any other casual players to match you against. Casual players are not playing DBD right now. There's no event, no tome, no grade, and DC merchant made the rare survivors who attempted soloQ probably regret their choice and play something else.

Try to play again in June, maybe it'll be better. But sadly, I think the game is probably on its final decline, and the matches will only get sweatier over time.

Decline in player count is a huge issue here. There aren’t enough available players across all skill levels to constantly fill matches at any given time, so the matchmaking system gives up after a minute or two and just throws you in with whoever is next in line, regardless of MMR.

Play solo survivor for 20 games straight and watch your sanity leave. Everytime killers are asked about solo survivor they either act like they are pro (but they never post a guide lmao) or don't address it at all and just turn the conversation to high MMR and SWF. Every killer main here is top MMR apparently.

I’m here to provide a counterexample to what you said. I play killer and solo q about 50/50. I’d say about half of my solo queue matches are fun and I probably escape about 1/3 on average. The 50% of the matches that aren’t fun are usually due to survivor DCing (I think DC penalties should be increased, btw), hook suiciding even when the match isn’t even close to being lost, or most often it’s survivors who do nothing while you’re being chased. So yeah, I know it sucks a lot of the time, but I really don’t know how you make that significantly better without also making SWF even more OP than it already is.

What is super frustrating to me is that in all the years of attempting to balance the game, the fact that SWF can and should be nerfed (there are plenty of ways to it) has gone completely ignored by the devs. I’m totally fine with the most recent anti-camp mechanics being added, but it’s yet another change that buffs both solo q and SWF.

There is an obvious solution here which is to buff survivor but then also nerf SWF in a way that makes it easier for killers to deal with. BHVR won’t do it because they know they’ll lose a lot of players, even though it would help bring everything into better balance across the game.

  • I love the spot Wraith is in now. All his add-ons are useful to some degree, and a lot of them a really good (some maybe even arguable OP). His power promotes the most fun elements of the game: stealth/surprise attacks, active chases and mind games at loops. When hit and run was a nearly useless tactic because of fast medkit heals and unlimited CoH self-care, he was much less viable, but in a great place now with recent changes.

Understandable but I was under the impression most people strongly disliked hold W gameplay and this perk promotes it more than any other in the game imo

I much prefer “hold W” and eventually be able to hit/down a survivor than “I will never catch you because you have three broken tiles strung together creating a virtual infinite loop”

  • @fussy said:

Bamboozle is a band-aid on a terrible map design. On some maps even bamboozle doesn't allow to counter some braindead RNG, window in front of window nearby window. So yeah, you can just say "I want to abuse all broken things on maps, but this perk prevents me." instead of "It doesn’t feel like it promotes healthy interaction".

Agree with this. Until broken maps and loops get addressed, Bamboozle is a required perk for certain killers who would otherwise have an incredibly difficult time hitting survivors on maps that have strong tiles strung closely together

  • I’d chalk it up to wild inconsistency. Sometimes I’ll get flashlight stunned from 90% angles and sometimes I’ll have what seems like a perfect angle not stun me at all.

    🤷‍♂️

The frustrating part of this conversation that seems to be left out, is that sometimes the only option you have to salvage a game is to sit by the hook and force out a hook state. People don't have to like it, they can find it offensive, but sometimes it's gotta be done. Not an option anymore.

See the problem is that people would actually have to play killer to understand this

    Ironic.

The WHOLE REASON they're adding this mechanic is because there are killers who don't care at all about the experience of survivor players. Try getting face-camped sometime.

I have - lots of times. I know it sucks. I also know that there is a huge difference between the killer being within range to grab someone and being 16 meters away from the hook looking for survivors that they know are coming for the rescue. I play killer enough to know that there are often legitimate and necessary reasons to stay close to the hook and it’s not to facecamp just to be a d###. But you and others who are making these types of dismissive comments seem to think that there is never a legitimate reason for a killer to be near the hook and it’s always because the killer just wants to ruin someone’s game.

I’m totally fine seeing how this plays out but I’m also not going to be dismissive about legitimate concerns from killer players.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3432811#Comment_3432811

A killer that is 16 yards away from a hooked survivor isn't facecamping them. This isn't a definition of facecamping that I've ever seen anyone use before. If BHVR wants to make an anti facecamping mechanic, it should be limited to facecamping range.

I hope they reconsider the range. 16 meters is a long way away and is absolutely not facecamping. Facecamping is being within range to grab somebody if they go for a save. I’m willing to see how this plays out, but I worry that it’s penalizing a very legitimate and sometimes required way for killers to play.

  • @Nos37 said:

Stop acting like if you step one foot closer than what's shown in the last pic that the survivor on the hook immediately unhooks themself, the exit gates magically open, they teleport to the gate, and their t-bagging sets your machine on fire.

    Go patrol gens.

Typical dismissive comment from someone who doesn’t care at all about the experience of killer players. Go try playing killer sometime then post your videos showing us all how easy it is.

  • Only one side is allowed to have fun. Don’t ever forget that

people don't accept that comms is really good though? Its just harder to change than face camping. You cant nerf swf without nerfing solo q, so you need to buff up to swf then buff killer accordingly. and if you havent noticed, the new hud changes and the leaks lobby hud shows thats exatly what their doing. In a year or two swf will be a lot less strong.

Disagree with you on a couple points. SWF can absolutely be nerfed. There have been plenty of suggestions on this forums for ways to do it. Also, buffing solo q is not going to make SWF weaker. It’s making solo q stronger, which is great (I play a lot of solo q and I love it). However, these changes don’t do anything to make SWF on comms less OP

  • @crogers271 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3433102#Comment_3433102

Because there is really no way to prevent it, especially without likely losing a lot of the player base.

Also, a killer can use "cheap" tactics in any game, only some games involve players on comms.

I agree there’s no way to prevent it. My whole point is that it’s very unfair to killers yet most players accept it and survivors who use it simply tell killers to deal with it.

Given the fact killers have to deal with an incredibly unfair advantage that SWF get, they should be able to play however they want to. Yet here we are yet again nerfing tactics that the devs have said for the past 7 years are fair and legitimate parts of the game.

  • image.png

Using comms in the game is a cheap and easy way to get all the gens done. Yet killers are forced to deal with and survivors claim that it’s totally fine. How come only one side is allowed to use cheap tactics to win?

  • It’s not killer that is the problem. It’s SWF. I just got done playing some matches with Plague and Wraith (mid-tier killers) and won pretty easily. I don’t think any of the matches were against SWF teams.

When I play during peak evening times it’s constant SWF teams. Gens get done after maybe two or three hooks unless I camp and tunnel hard. Everyone knows that this is the core balance problem in the game, but nothing has been done about it and likely nothing will ever be done about it. Enough killers are still willing to put up with it, I guess.

  • Stuff like this exists because map design issues continue to be ignored. I don’t blame survivors at all for taking advantage. This is on the devs to fix broken maps

  • I used to say the same think for the first couple of months after he was released but recently he’s been one of the less common killers in my matches. Don’t see him that much anymore.

  • @Recruit said:

will this us vs them mentality ever stop?

No, it won’t, because a lot of people are too cowardly to try playing one side or the other before they form their opinions. A lot of these types of posts would go away if people actually tried playing both killer and survivor roles.

  • So the thing is, if the killer is playing well, somebody is going to die early in the game. That player is always going to claim “TUNNELING!!!” The only way that survivors are going to be happy is if they at minimum get to stay alive until the exit gates are powered. If we change the game to make these people happy, most matches are going to be 4 escapes. Let’s stop and think about this for a minute: do you think this sounds like fun for the person who is playing killer?

  • I guess we’ll see how long survivor queues get once the changes go live. We’ve seen in the past that killers have gotten buffs when kill rates got too low. My initial thought is the same as many others that these changes are unbalanced in favor of survivors, but I’m willing to see how it goes. If killer becomes too miserable I will stop playing killer and so will many others. BHVR will have to make balance changes if they want to keep their game alive. But let’s wait and see how the changes play out first.

  • @tech said:

It seems that the Borgo is the most hated map for its design so how would it get reworked?

maybe just the colours as its very red or just reducing the pallets or maybe its fine what you guys think?

First of all get rid of all the red highlights that are exactly the same color as scratch matches. Then just completely change the color scheme of the map.

  • I’ll tell you why I tunnel when I play killer. It’s the easiest way to level the playing field against coordinated SWF. If BHVR isn’t going to make the game fair for killers who have to go against coordinated SWF teams, then I’m going to play as scummy as possible to have a chance at winning.

  • @Ayodam said:

Basekit killer instinct isn’t an accessibility feature. It’s a huge buff. The visual terror radius doesn’t give survivors information they don’t already have (assuming they aren’t deaf), but giving killer instinct or some other ‘visual’ auditory feature wouldn’t have the same effect because blind people aren’t playing DBD.

What about killer players who have trouble hearing? Being able to locate survivors by sounds, especially injured ones, is a huge part of the game. A similar visual indicator for killers also would not give them information that they don’t already have if they have good hearing ability.

  • @jamally093 said:

What I mean is let's say the game ending or your playing killer and are half way through and you get the usually "nice camping, tunnel, ect" kind of stuff how do you deal with it?

For me simple I stopped doing the whole argue back since it made no sense why argue back it's a waste of time. So I usually do the simple if the killer is camping I'll complain but never message no reason for it but if I get a message most of the time I just smile and basically just say "that's nice" and done.

So how do you deal with toxicity.

Turn off chat. It should be removed from the game anyway

  • To compensate killers for the major buff that was given to ALL survivors with the introduction of visual TR, I demand that we also get hearing accessibility upgrades for killers. We should have basekit killer instinct any time you get close to a survivor, with the distance within which you can see the survivor being much greater if the survivor is injured.

They stood and let me open the gate but downed me right away and hooked me. This happens to me often and it’s just survivors waiting for you to show up so they can t-bag you. • because every time a patch is released, random unrelated things break #spaghetticode

  • @HoodedWildKard said:

And here comes the flood of "oh no, it'll be to toxic" brigade. See the 3 replies above for reference.

Practically every multiplayer game has voice chat. Sure toxicity is a problem but that's what mute and report functions are for. Vc wouldn't solve the problem, but it would HELP solo q.

And if we don't want toxicity why thevhell do we have endgame chat so killers and survs can insult each other.

Agree on the “why does end-game chat exist” question. I don’t think it should.

Yes many other multiplayer games have in-game comm features and they are all cesspools of toxicity. We know how difficult it already is to report and get people banned in this game - why would we want to exponentially increase this problem just for a possible minor buff to solo q? Not worth it, IMO.

  • This idea has been suggested many times in the past, but would be a total disaster in my opinion due to reasons given by the other commenters. I agree it would be an absolute cesspool of profanity and abuse, just like the end-game chat which for inexplicable reasons remains a feature in the game.

I think perhaps one in ten games are fun, like old dbd where you felt it was a fair matchup. Seldom are games fun, between cheaters, sweaty aggro players, and dcs it really is not fun. Playing dbd is sort of like playing the lottery. You get one win and it hooks you to play again, but the wisest players do not play at all.

Question is: why do you play at all? I would have quit a long time ago if the game was as bad as it apparently is for you.

I play killer and solo q survivor about equally. Sometimes I’ll get a streak of bad matches, but overall I’d say at least half are fun.

The last few months with the stale meta and killers that were released.

I hope the anniversary can bring some cool stuff:

    • I hope the killer is enjoyable for both sides
    • We get a roadmap for new features coming
    • Buffs to bad Killers and perks to shake up the meta in a fun way
    • For new perks to not be so controlled, this new perks have so many restrictions and conditions that makes them not fun to use

The game is balanced well enough right now, but it needs some shake up to give players new things to do and get good at. Holding W and using the same perks because the new ones are underwhelming

I don’t agree at all with the meta being “stale” right now. The last few patches have enormously shaken up the meta. Killers don’t camp three-gens nearly as much, and I hardly ever see DH on survivors anymore.

  • @NoHookDC said:

    Remember folks:

    • Killers playing efficiently is 'tunneling' and should be removed.
    • Survivors playing efficiently means Killers need to 'git gud'. 🙃

It would be really nice if survivor players had to play a minimum number of hours as killer before being allowed to post complaints about camping and tunneling.

  • @GoofyGooberRock said:

I think dbd should add a feature to punish killers if they face camp a hook or camping hook by adding a speed to gens

So let's say the killer is face camping a hook it can be effortless for them to do so and get an easy kill and survivors have a more challenging time well because they lost a teammate

sure the teams can try to do gens but a lot of times they'll try to go for the save which can end the game cause killers could tunnel the person out and now you have 3 people working on gens which makes it harder

so if a killer starts face camping hook the entity would start getting displeased with this gameplay after a certain amount of time maybe 10-20 seconds of being at hook without leaving it the entity makes the rest of the survivor team start speeding up on gens

and to stop gens going faster the killer must leave the hook to get the other survivors off gens I would think it would have to be at a specific range to make the speeding stop

speed could also cancel out if there are 2-3 gens left

Why should killers get punished for camping? The devs have said countless times that camping is a legitimate strategy. I hate getting camped too but with how easy it is for coordinated teams to complete all the gens by the time the killer gets 2 or 3 hooks, I completely understand why they do it. All you’re going to do is make it even easier for SWF teams to stomp killers.

I don’t see how what was said by the dev was misconstrued. The “skills-based” matchmaking system literally works exactly as described by that person in that Q&A. All this time later, this same terrible skills-based MM system is still in place and the devs continue to defend it using the same logic.

Was that the one with the guy who said looping for 5 gens but dying means you suck at the game?

Haha yep! Let’s not forget that the “skills-based” matchmaking system still says that if you loop the killer for 5 gens but don’t escape that you are just as bad at the game as if you got downed within the first 5 seconds of each chase.

  • @KeiOrtem said:

I've had roughly three matches today where I would have a survivor either run to a corner with no hooks near it at all or to the 2nd story of a main building and just sit there. I dont see how survivors find that fun. I play both sides pretty evenly but I will see quite a few people doing this.

My question is how is that fun? Any decent killer will know just to slug you and not bother dealing with that so your fun is ruined and you are now hurting your teammates too.

I don’t blame survivors at all. This is 100% on the devs for not addressing bad map design. All they need to do is fix hook dead zones and survivors wouldn’t be able to abuse this.

  • @MerleDixon said:

It's such a stupid addon because if you run it with green memorial, it's normal stalking speed. You shouldn't be able to take someone out of the game without even being able to hook them. It literally takes no skill to use this addon

Nobody would buy Myers because he’s pretty bad without this stupidly broken add-on. It’s ultimate easy mode for killer side. This add-on needs to be deleted and everything else buffed to make him a more viable killer.

  • I agree with all the other comments about it being too situational to warrant using over other perks. There are so many other perks that provide utility all-game long regardless of the conditions.

  • Real bullying is never ok, but this this not even close to real bullying. Every video game is going to contain elements of taunting that will trigger people. If you’re getting upset about this, then maybe re-think playing online games with other people.

fix the matchmaking and maybe people will stop Disconnecting/dying on first hook out of frustration of all the games that are over before the game even loads in ?

What do you propose for “fixing the matchmaking”? If there was an easy fix, it would have been done a long time ago. There aren’t enough people at similar MMR level playing the game at a given time to make “fair” matches without extremely long queue times. As player numbers continue to drop, the problem will only get worse. Let’s also not forget that MMR based on kills and escapes is a terrible skill-measuring system to begin with.

Yes, there are still issues with the game and frustrations with the way BHVR handle things sometimes, but overall I still enjoy it and play it more than any other game I own.

This drives me nuts, too. We get bugs that significantly affect gameplay that don’t even get acknowledged by the devs, and then some get addressed immediately. The inconsistency is extremely frustrating.

  • Imbalance between SWF and killer at higher levels. If a SWF team is efficient in completing gens and survivors can last more than 20 seconds in a chase, killers have little chance of securing more than one kill because it’s mathematically impossible. And they will have to camp/tunnel for that one kill. The only reason killers get more than one kill against SWF at high levels is if the SWF team is overly altruistic to get 4 escapes or wastes time trying to taunt/loop the killer.
