everything you wrote is on point, from the types of counterplay, comparing to fighting games, to streamer influence, this was an excellent read.
Thanks. im still running through it to edit it and make it properly formatted APA style. By tomorrow it should be a much cleaner read. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece.

there's no perfect way to make a tldr out of this read or dont
It's fine. I know forums can bring in people that are allergic to reading. Also this only hits the audience that really is into in depth discussion. It's not for everyone as some just see this and games in general as fun things to mess around in.

Only problem with that is some people like tier 1s of perks. For instance make your choice. I normally down the survivor in 20 seconds with wraith. But i gotta wait another 40 since the exposed duration is the cooldown. When i could just go level 1 and wait 20.
I mean you could just make it where you can choose what level you want the perk after you buy it.. I buy myc, I decide what level myc is best at for the build

I don't think the devs understand how much of a deterrent the grind is for new players. And it's only going to get worse. The grind increases by roughly 26% each year! That means that in 4 years, the grind will have doubled. At this point, it's pretty much impossible to catch up. The devs need to do something about the grind. The best solution IMO is still simple: Cut the cost of all items in the bloodweb by 2000 points.
Or. Just make you buy the tier 3 of a perk and only the tier 3 of a perk.

Last anniversary was a great bloodpoint boost. So much people bringing bloodpoint offerings. It sometimes make you earn more than 150k in one trial. Last year I maxed out Deathslinger p3-50 with all perks.
That's close to the truth. With all five players bring a cake last year you could achieve 520% more BP. Mixed with another 100% from BBQ you get 620%.
32,000 x 6.2 = 198,400 as the theoretically max BP possible to earn in a single game last year.

(I swear I tried to keep this short.)
I look for 3 things when choosing a killer.
Variation: how many different ways is that killer able to be played? Do you only have one add on combination or can you make many variations to make the killer powerful in different ways? What about perks, is this killer reliant on specific perks or can they use multiple builds to achieve the same results for roughly the same effort?
Potential for conditioning: does this killers power have a meta game too it? Can I make survivors react differently by reinforcing them with my power?
And whether they are mechanically rewarding: this one's simple does the killer feel good when you use them.
Most killers in this game do not cover all three of these. Some cover 2, more than I'd like only cover 1 of these.
With these 3 things in mind. My mains include wraith, deathslinger, executioner, and soon to be nemesis. None of these killers cover all three. Wraith covers variation and conditioning, deathslinger covers conditioning and mechanically rewarding, and executioner covers variation and mechanically rewarding.
I feel like the more bases a killer covers in this trinity the easier they are to play and win with.

Other than it being 25 percent instead of 20 percent, this is exactly how it works. Drop them too late in the wiggle, they get off your shoulder instead of just getting dropped.
good to know. I assumed it was 25 but thought that it was a possibility that it was under because you do get to wiggle a little bit before they can drop you again.

Obviously some screams are better than others, but the most played female characters have the shrill screams (Meg, Feng, Yun-Jin)
They're pretty bad. some of their screams actually make my ears ring.

Is there a point where you can no longer drop survivors, perhaps once they are a certain percentage into their wiggle?
Many a time I've tried to drop a survivor, knowing I won't make a hook, but it hasn't worked and then they've suddenly wiggled free. Is that a thing? Or am I imagining it?
yes. dropping a survivor jumps their escape bar by I think 20 Percent. you can usually only drop them 4 times before the drops and the time they do have to wiggle completes their bar.

I totally understand that. Blight is an amazing killer but he’s so hard to master that there will be very few master Blights. I would consider myself a damn good Blight and I can win most of my games with him but I’m pretty lackluster with Nurse so she would seem like a bad killer to me even though she isn’t a bad killer.
I mostly play on controller since making the switch to pc is so much of a time investment. that's why I don't list blight, or huntress as they are completely different creatures with a mouse and keyboard. Nurse is the only person I ignored my rules with. Even if im not good I can visually and verbally understand that the very nature of her power makes her the strongest since she destroys traditional looping which is where most people consider how strong a character is.

@GannTM said:
Let me rank the killers that are in the “not sure” tier:
Plague - B
Doctor - B
Huntress - A
Hag - A
Blight - S
You could most likely be right. I just think when people make tier lists they should recognize if they are particularly bad with a killer they probably dont have the most fair perspective on them and their power. I just wanted to remove any unfair bias in my personal list in how I see killers. I would say I agree with you on hag as I recently asked for builds and advice for her and have been playing her quite a bit.

actual game mode will be call casual gamemode... no rank system allow
new game mode:
- you will be pair with 3 survivors and 1 killer... this will be a team (if you play on premade, you will can to do a team of 4 survivors and 1 killer)
- you will fight against another group with the same configuration...
- the only rule is, you will fight at the same map with same places of the palets and structures...
- win the team with the high score in terms of points
- wins give you 2 points in rank system , loses take -3points
of course this can be improbe but thats a general idea... and can have 2 game modes, 1 game mode with casual game and no rank system all in one, and this new rank system game mode with rank system allow and the best place for competitives, tryhards and proplayers
I love this. one disagreement. the team that plays survivors second will have an advantage if the map variation and tile layout is the same.
they would be able to know the strong and deadspots on the map right away making them be able to perform better on survivor. Map layout knowledge is way more important for the survivor as they have to do their best to run to the right spots. its survivors mistakes that lead to downs in most cases.

the huntress pallet stun sound. like serious stfu. I'll be honest that sound alone is why I play deathslinger instead of huntress. its that annoying to me.

I mean I'll say I didn't buy my meze empryean headphones for dbd. But they're pretty fun for dbd. Little bit of audiophile advice though. Most gaming headphones are better for the job then audiophile headphones as gaming headphones have more bass and thump to them. Their sound pick up match more what games tend to put out.

(I didn't think I'd get to write a follow up but yes! So while dosed on sleeping meds I present old timey war letter part 2!)
My dearest Eliza,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. It is now day six since the battle for Pride Hill began. I have seen more than my fair share of needless bloodshed and death since our last correspondence. My troop has been stuck at the top of this hill for two days now. I fear we may be stuck for four more.
Some of us have taken to prayer. You know me dear Eliza, you know that I am not a God fearing man but even I have found myself saying a quick prayer of protection. Lord knows we could use a bit more than dirt and stonewalls to stop these bullets that rain down on us.
Word has come down from the brass that we are to defend this hill with our very lives. Reinforcements are coming but I fear they may come too late.
The enemy is ruthless and without a soul. They send in suicide troops to sprint up the hill hoping to break past our defensive lines. Sarge has taken to calling them 'megheads'. I don't know what that is but it fits. That's not the worst of it though. There are others we fear and must watch out for, there are enemies we have taken to calling the stalkers. I saw one rip poor Leonard's arm off from the stem. During nightwatch I swear I still hear that monsters labored breathing.
I am scarce to admit my dearest Eliza that I am afraid. Though I do not fear for myself, but instead fear for all of you back home should we lose this hill. Should we lose this war. It's not my life at stake but the lives and liberty of all those that dare raise the rainbow flag. Those that refuse to be machine men with machine minds and machine hearts. I fear for the feeble, the weak, the strong, and the resilient. For this is a fight that they should not have to fight dear Eliza.
So we stand strong. We hold this hill till the rainbow shines through this foggy battlefield.
Signed
Ryan Brenton Nathenial IV

Industry standards are irrelevant if people can't actually get the hardware, though. What good is an industry standard of 16k resolutions if two thirds of all gamers have 1080p monitors and their GPUs lack the power to output at those resolutions?
Because when something becomes the standard that means efforts made to make the thing become more affordable. For example this year I purchased a new TV. Natively runs at 120hz and does so in 4k. It only cost me $900. Tbf that's pretty expensive. However that same TV even 2 years ago would have ran me $2000. Hell probably even more because getting a 56' 120hz tv is hard even now. As the technology gets better the cost of making it goes down. A quick side note, a 80' TV has been made as of last year that natively runs at 256hz at 8k. It costs about 80 grand. But 20 years from now it might just cost a couple grand to make.
That's why phones are better and better every year but generally have stayed about the same price except for the newest trend of an ultimate model. This is why a mid range phone now has the same specs as a high end phone from just 2 years ago. The technology got better. It's not an "if" just a "when". Resolution isn't a gimmick, and neither is how we process, send, and receive information like tick rate or fps.
Look I feel like I'm going in circles. I don't know if dbd will be around for this, I also don't know if 128 tick rate servers are the right fit for dbd. It was just a fun little question to talk a little bit about the new technology that is becoming commercially more and more available.

Around the same time we thought that 1080p was as good as it gets. Now 4k is quickly becoming the standard for resolution with 8k already having a niche audience and 16k beginning to be actually usable for filming.
1080p is still the standard. Steam reports that over 2/3 of all users have a 1080p monitor, and that percentage actually increased slightly, with higher resolutions other than 1440p showing a decrease in usage.
4k is a gimmick, 8k is ridiculous, and 16k is just pointless. Fun fact: due to the human eye's finite resolution, a screen that filled your entire FOV at a certain distance (not sure about the value, but I think it's the average distance that we place monitors at) would have to be around 8k for you to be unable to perceive individual pixels. Screens, however, don't fill your entire FOV, meaning that 8k is already overkill.
Another fun fact: movie theaters don't have 8k movies, despite having screens that are, quite literally, the size of small buildings.
My point is that it's unwise to discredit the medium of gaming for not advancing in technology.
I'm not discrediting anything, I'm saying that unless you know exactly how everything is going to go, "future proofing" is simply not possible. You have no way of knowing if DbD will even still be around in 3 years, nor if people will go for monitors with higher refresh rates and resolution. I doubt they will, given that GPUs that can handle those resolutions and refresh rates have become prohibitively costly and don't seem to be dropping in price, since the manufacturers figured out that people are going to pay stupidly high prices anyway.
Affordability does not equate to standard. I gotta disagree with you on this. However we simply have to wait and see. I could be wrong though I'm fairly certain I'm not. I've spent to much of my life working with this stuff to not have an incling into the ears of industry professionals in tv, animation, film, and yes games to know their thoughts on what's coming and what the industry itself considers standard.

My Xbox1x has never ever run DBD at a steady 60 frames. Ever. It can dip into the teens indoors or with Doc or Freddy. Ffs I still get mini freezes in the dang menus...
I mean mine did. I also did mention some maps and graphical updates did effect how strong the framerate was but for the most part it runs it pretty solidly

A higher tick rate won't solve DbD's issues. This game is special when it comes to hit reg and hitboxes. Like, REALLY special, and not in a good way. Their initial philosophy was hitreg only needs to be "adequate" in a game like DbD, not "accurate". The problem is the game itself, no amount of extra ticks for their servers is gonna help that.
You also have to consider that last gen consoles can't even handle tickrates like that.
No I recognize that there are significantly more pressing matters that need to be addressed. I agree with you there 💯.
As for the previous gen consoles. While I still believe we should support them for as long as possible they are nearly 10 year old hardware in terms of the original Xbox one and ps4. They can only receive support for so long. People will need to eventually cough up the money if they want to play current games at appropriate quality.

Of course there are worse issues, but it would be a nice thing to work towards. I want a tesla, it doesn't mean I can buy it right now or that I don't have other things that need to be taken care of but it is a long term goal to work towards.
This thread is in no way shape or form meant to be a negative thing but something with a positive outlook to the technical side of this game.

No such thing as "future proofing" unless you can see the future, though. You don't know if higher (>60 Hz) refresh rates are going to become standard. Personally, to "future proof" my eyeballs, I'm going to stick with 60 Hz, so I don't need to buy a super powerful GPU just to be able to get a stable high FPS.
EDIT: Hell, 3 years from now DbD might no longer exist.
I mean.... only a decade and a half ago the idea console games running at 60fps was lunacy, with it the idea of server tick rates being higher than 20 or 30 was also crazy.
Around the same time we thought that 1080p was as good as it gets. Now 4k is quickly becoming the standard for resolution with 8k already having a niche audience and 16k beginning to be actually usable for filming.
My point is that it's unwise to discredit the medium of gaming for not advancing in technology. The medium is simply getting bigger and better every single year in terms of technical quality. While this current gen is laying off resolution as it's basically caught up to movie standards we have turned to other technical advances like proprietary ssd memory usage that allows for loading time several times faster than ever thought possible on previous hardware. This is of course with the thought that dbd is here for the foreseeable future. It's life span as a live service game longer than games we use to play only a decade ago.
-
@onemind said:
Yeah when console runs at a consistent 45fps not the occasional freeze frames at 30
I mean the ps5 and seriesx run at 60 on most games. This is especially true if you don't run in 4k. Dbd has been running at 60 since the ps4 pro and Xbox one x. Though a few maps did dip the framerates a slight amount.
-
@Orion said:
There shouldn't be any need for 120 Hz, though, given that most monitors have a 60 Hz refresh rate anyway, with a tiny fraction going to 120 Hz and an even smaller fraction going higher than that..
But what about 3 years from now? I'm talking future proofing the game for when that technology does become the standard.
Of course most people don't have monitors or tvs that handle that. Unless your someone like me who lives and breathes high end equipment as I work as a professional in the content creation world and need it to be able to work from home instead of heading to the studio every day. Plus its just super nice.

It's annoying. They screw over their teammates and take winnable matches into situations where it's impossible to win. Just yesterday I played a slinger match on console and had an instant DC when I started chase with them. Their DC caused me to be able to pressure enough to eventually win on a build that had no gen regression against survivors that were straight up better than me. I should have lost, instead I managed to mori all 3 of the remaining survivors with my fully decked out devour hope.

Easy. Dead hard is league's and above better than any other exhaustion perk. I don't think it should be nerfed though. If anything I'd like to see stuff like balanced landing, sprint burst, and lithe buffed to be comparable options.

That’s exactly what I meant when I said it’s complicated to fix him. He’ll need many buffs to compensate to keep him strong but more fun to against. I’m honestly not exactly sure what we could do with him but I don’t mind facing him as much as some other killers and there’s not that many good Deathslingers so I guess it’s not that big of a deal.
Agreed. Honestly the only way to "fix" him is to completely change his power.
-
They can charge whatever they want. I however will not buy them at the current price. I have only bought 3 outfits in the 3 years I've been playing. Robby legion skin, an executioner skin, and the wraith skin from this year's new years event. That's it.
-
@GannTM said:
Deathslinger doesn’t need a nerf. He isn’t strong enough, but he does need counterplay in the 1v1, which might be too complicated to fix for him.
Gotta disagree. You give counterplay to his 1v1 he becomes trash teir. He becomes trickster.
-
Your argument is that if the survivors play right he can't do anything.
*deep breath*
THATS EVERY KILLER IN THE GAME EXCEPT NURSE OR SPIRIT!
You're complaining about a singular add on that doesn't help in chase whatsoever. Youre ignoring that he has even better add-on combos that have been shown off by other streamers. You're ignoring that eventhough wraith is no longer add-on dependent he has add on combos that your not complaining about that makes his 1v1 just as good as his 1v4.
You literally said that its easy to make him useless if you pre drop pallets. Guess what if you faced me I'd make you wish you didn't because my preferred build wants you to pre drop pallets. So in my build you either drop the pallet and get hit for it or you don't and get hit for it. You could argue that I won't always have those addons but that's also false. I only need a yellow and a brown. Both of which I have hundreds of.
It's not that wraiths op it's that wraiths now allowed to have WAY more builds then before because his speed is no longer an issue. People don't know how to verse him now because there's not just one way to play wraith anymore. Every single one of his addons can be used in a build that makes him play differently.
People think he's bad all of a sudden just because a single streamer says he's top teir. Where was this consensus when he got windstorm basekit? If I remember correctly the forums and every single streamer agreed that it solidly pushed wraith from the bottom of the rung to being decently high in the pack. In fact the forums had several threads made asking for the buff to be reverted because he went from awful to being "op"
-
I'm tired of hearing how wraiths bad simply because a certain streamer likes him. It's sad 😥. Also super petty.
