If they were a sweaty squad and I had to work hard for the win then I wont give hatch/door... but then sometimes I will.
If they left their team mates to die then I wont give hatch/door...but then sometimes I will.
I cant be bothered slugging for a 4k though unless I am doing an adept or 1 pip off securing rank 1 for the month. But generally I cant be bothered and will just tab out of game while they find the hatch or open the door
-
The last match I played is a classic example of the problem currently plaguing the game
The killer constantly stopped mid chase to kick gens as he knew that Eruption is so strong it is actually worth kicking gens mid chase.
He was not a great player either and I felt my team mates were all fairly decent for randoms... but it did not matter at all as we simply could not overcome the oppression of a build like this. We only got two gens completed and I probably did the mid gen twice over (important to break any 3 gen) but with Eruption COB (I missed no Overcharge checks btw) it was just too much.
This is insanity, if killers have no morals they can win simply by going into a match with a build like this and your opponents skill means nothing if they are not on comms to counter Eruption.

Solo is borderline unplayable. In more than half my matches, the Killer has Eruption and tunnels the first guy out with 4 gens left. Wow, much skill, very balanced.
I bet Killer players are having a ball though. The game has never been easier for them, and yet they continue to sweat like their life depends on the 4k. 🙄
Yes I see this a lot too though in fairness not every match as there are still people who have a shred of decency. But it happens enough to motivate me to have started this thread in the first place.
In a recent vid regarding selfishness of the DBD community, Scott Jund discussed the idea of when you see a team is struggling to perhaps consider backing off a bit as killer as it can become clear very early on that you are not going to lose the match. I realised I do exactly this without even thinking about it, I would rather everyone has a good match than be playing Nurse and slugging at 5 gens against a solo queue lobby.
So often I find killers play like every team is a full 4 man sweat squad when the reality is even most SWF's are a bunch of barely competent causal goofs

Soloq is cannon fodder for killers. Every one SWF I get, I get at least 4 soloq matches immediately after that usually end either in a 4k or a 3+hatch.
It's why I get frustrated with forum people. Killer is precisely the role I play when I get frustrated and I wanna get a couple easy wins. And if I suspect the survivor team is a SWF I just dodge the lobby and entirely skip the d/c penalty, something I don't have the luxury to do when I play survivor.
It depends on the SWF for me, if I have experience of them in the past and I know they like to make for a toxic experience then I skip. But I will play them if they are good but don't behave like 5 year olds...
It isn't about the winning in the role of killer, I think most killers win most of their matches and if you don't you should really be taking a good hard look at how you are playing. But is how you get that win that matters and I can win against the sweatiest toxic SWF but the win feels hollow as the process was a miserable slog of putting up with badly behaved children intentionally trying to frustrate me.
But solo queue is much easier for killers, I think we all know that

I don't think taking matchmaking as evidence is a good idea, because a lot of people do not know how to play versus nurse, but for sure if you get people that do, specially knowing that she cant go through objects in her second one will make things easier, maybe even abusable, idk.
In my experience 99% of survivors really have very limited ability to counter Nurse, even those with thousands of hours in the game who I expect to give me a big challenge rarely do. Of course matchmaking is scuffed as we all know but I think a killer that is capable of stomping the most experienced pro SWF with relative ease is too much for public lobby DBD
-
Wraith is okay but the problem is the Eruption based full slowdown build meta we currently have. It punishes solo survivors and makes matches very difficult as there is no counter to Eruption, so when you stack it with multiple slowdowns on top of that... not fun.
-
I always love some extra BP and I prefer it over shards personally as I cant just buy BP (rightly so or the game would be literally pay to win). I am working towards having every perk on every killer and survivor at tier 3 so every extra lot of BP I can get is appreciated

to be honest, 3 hours of playing without a an afk , escaped twice , at least getting some Bloodpoints . if BP bonus did not exist i would have stopped playing (at least) survivors , not worth it.
I just escaped twice in a row which is fortunate as I had that challenge to do... but I escaped maybe once in the two hours before that. Survivor incentives have been on all night it is 11pm where I am...

If you start to count things collectivly, then take a second to consider how many minutes killers spend picking up, carrying survivors and hooking.
As i said, by the time the killer finished the hooking animation, my cd was almost over. Even though he downed a survivor right next to me. Wasn´t really inconvenient, as the killer also isn´t getting much progress during that time + he needs to kick those gens. Which gives a headstart in chases. Which are far more valuable.
But survivors work collectively, clearly.
The thing is, clearly killers do feel they are getting value from kicking gens over starting a chase. I am seeing them do it mid chase lol...
I watched VOD from a streamer myself and a big streamer in my region were playing against where both me and the big streamer ended up DCing (not condoning this mods!) due to his ridiculous Eruption based build. When I watched it back he was even saying how it was worth it to kick gens mid chase to get "eruption value" which ironically was what made two of us say screw this and leave.
It is getting really tedious dealing with this over and over

A pile of cope? What does that even mean? I have no problem owning it. I tunnel. I camp. Ill face camp with leatherface 20 seconds into a match. A smart group will go do gens. Maybe ill get bored and leave.
And I really couldnt care less if my Opponents like it, respect it, or hate it. Or anyone else for that matter. I play to win, not to entertain, amuse or ensure survivors have fun. And I will never follow made up, imaginary rules. Which is exactly what tunneling and camping are.
So edgy... ugh...

Since last SBMM update, i'm less than 25% escape and i cant even get a pip in SoloQ stuck in Bronze IV
every killer are the same 3 gens perk or more: Eruption, Dead Man's Switch,Call of Brine,Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance.
it's getting seriously boring . seems like Killers are on Easy mode ATM. the other problem is PPL Suicide on Hook . those are symptoms that is something wrong with the game since last meta Shake Up.
Yeah I would say my average escape rate is probably 30%... I may escape 3 games in a row at one point but most matches I still die.
I still manage to pip up most of the time unless I just give up and go next as the situation is hopeless but escapes are getting rarer than they were in the past.
I do think the game was too survivor sided before but it has gone too far the other way now imo

@Tsulan said:
UPDATE: Just had a match against a killer with Eruption. It triggered twice during the whole match with a total of 3 survivors affected. Its 25 seconds. With the time between downing a survivor, picking him up, carry him to a hook and hooking, the timer was almost over.
The game has other problems than Eruption.
Of course the game has other problems but that does not mean you don't address the glaringly obvious ones though and anyone who plays solo queue is well aware of how Eruption is making life miserable.
Even considering your example match (I did say there are some where I only get hit maybe once) you say 3 survivors are affected for only 25 seconds... but that isn't really the full picture as they collectively are affected for 75 seconds and in solo queue even a minute is a big thing.
I am being affected by a minute or more by myself on bad matches and there is no counter. I don't even know how to reason with people who don't see this as a problem?!

Oh, that's a good one.
My pet peeve is teammates downing a pallet next to you in the first 30s of the game, and then proceeding to go down in the following 30s as they're not good loopers either. It doesn't happen the most often, but it's still weird that it happens at all.
Lol yeah solo queue stuff that haha

@Tsulan said:
Maybe ask yourself why killers are still using 3-4 slowdown perks.
With over 3k hours i also don´t feel outplayed by Eruption when playing solo. Usually not every survivor is affected by the explosion. It slows gens somewhat down, but requires the killer to kick a gen and then down someone. In a normal match, either the perk is still on cd or a gen is repaired faster than what it takes the killer to down a survivor.
I know why they are using full slowdown builds - because they are relying on a broken meta to compensate for an inability to get pressure/downs.
I have over 3k hours myself and I am finding I am being hit with Eruption several times in an average match. Sure, sometimes maybe only once but if it isn't getting me it sure is getting my team mates. The perk is broken when it wins matches by itself and anyone being honest knows this
-
If team mates don't run Bond they will do this and like others say it is usually by accident.
The thing random team mates do that really grinds my gears is running the killer to where a team mate or myself is on a hook. This is one of the stupidest things you can possibly do to your team and can lose you the match from that one misplay

I have to disagree about playing to have fun means you are deluded. I mainly play solo. I have one friend that plays duo with me once a week for a few hours.
I honestly go into every game assuming I am going to die, and if I end up escaping it truly feels like a huge win. But regardless, I have fun.
Do I get upset if I’m tunnelled or camped at 5 gens? Sure, who wouldn’t, as we all want to just play the game. But I just GG, Next.
To me, wins aren’t that important. I take all the bloodpoints I can get and then go into another match.
Maybe this is because I’ve only been playing for about 7 months so I’m not jaded or tilted enough yet? Who knows. But I play to have fun and and my fun isn’t dependant on escaping.
Wait til you have many thousands of hours in the game...
Then you will start to feel the pain of knowing you outplayed your opponent at every step but they simply brought in a perk (Eruption) that handed them free wins. Even if they cant catch you, they don't have to as they can just pick off the weaker links in the team and so long as they keep kicking gens they can keep you incapacitated so you cant do anything.
I am okay with there being weak links in the team too as playing killer against full teams of gods is not fun either. But the gen control stacking meta is overwhelmingly oppressive.

●random DC's every 4 to 5 games which is auto L for u
●bad teammates/match making usally to the detriment of the survivors
●(camping, tunneling, slugging ) These are fair viable strategies but only server to reinforce your helplessness in solo q as u can't communicate the need for help to the team most of the time.
●And last! the most important reason..... (drum roll) u don't win often.
Most people delude themselves into thinking wins aren't that important and they just wanna have fun. But those mental gymnastics never last long as u start to complain "I'm not having fun" when the match isn't going your way. Solo q isn't miserable because of the meta. It miserable because the average player rarely wins.
Yeah hard to argue with this really.

I haven't felt like it's worth it since 6.1.0. Although before 6.1.0 i thought survivor was too easy but now i feel like it's a bit too hard.
I still like playing survivor every now and then but i mostly prefer killer because i feel like as killer you have a lot more control over how the match will go.
I agree i think eruption is too strong. It's worse than old PGTW. It needs to be brought in line with other gen perks like jolt and call of brine.
I also want Decisive Strike to have a 4 second stun up from 3 to further discourage tunelling.
I hope that the solo q icon thing comes soon or just y'know... make kindred basekit.
With changes that are at least similar to these i feel like the game will be in a decent spot.
I agree with DS, 3 seconds is just not enough and you almost always cannot make any distance and it renders the perk useless and not worth taking up a slot.
I also agree that survivor was easier, or I feel the game was a bit too survivor sided say a year ago. But I think they may have pushed the balance maybe a little too far towards the killer side, in particular the ability to stack slowdown perks.
If you bring a full slowdown loadout with Eruption on S tier killers, a solo team has no chance if you are even slightly competent

I was lucky yesterday, incentives were on killer for a while
Made 175k bps in one game with incentives + pudding + cute survivors willing to play around in snowmen and farm a bit
Nice, yeah I do feel it is easier to compensate on killer either way.
-
@HugTheHag said:
If I'm playing and no friends are online, I'd much rather play killer to be honest. It's easier for me to have better games as killer than as survivor, let alone SoloQ.

The issue in solo queue isn't perks, it's that most players play badly. It's a skill issue, not a balance issue.
Calling solo queue unplayable is extreme hyperbole.
@xfireturtlex said:
I think it has more to do with survivor quality than perks. Eruption and gen slowdown can suck, but there's ways to play around it all if you know what to do. It seems like more often than not when a teammate gets hit with incapacitated or sometimes even DMS, they just run around all crazy. Idk if its panic or frustration or what, but dont run straight towards the killer or out in the open. Hide. Wait it out. Pull a chase that lasts more than 10 seconds....something. Seems to me like everyone simply gives up at the slightest inconvenience these days.
Well yeah there is a skill issue and there always will be as DBD is a casual game (as much as the competitive lot will try to claim otherwise) and there will be less skilled players. The problem is killers will often just identify the weak link and tunnel them out of the game so the rest of the match is just a war of attrition that is really hopeless due to gen control.
How to fix that? Well I don't know I will admit but I have to say the current gen control meta is killing solo queue and while I acknowledge there is some hyperbole, it is becoming frustrating and the gen control so oppressive it feels borderline unplayable. A first step would be immediately dealing with Eruption, as I am always on gens if I am not being chased I am spending up to 100 seconds a match where I cant do anything and I have no counter to this in solo
I notice incentives seem to be swinging more to the survivor side than ever before...
-
Maps is obviously a big one for killers as I feel most are generally survivor sided and RNG can be pretty brutal.
Survivors who don't leave when the match is over and wait until the last second along with survivors who just pre-leave gens and hide constantly.

Selfish? Its 1 vs 4. I dont see killers trying to invent childish rules that only benefit their side. Tunneling, also known as counting or paying attention. Camping? Show me where its in the game's rules. You can't Because its not. Its the opposite. It says right in the rules on this forum, Dont bother reporting for tunneling, camping and body blocking. When you pay my bills and buy my games you can tell me how to play them.
Strawman argument as far as it being against the rules, so I will let you argue that one out with yourself since that is nothing to do with me.
The fact is I refuse to play in a scummy way then try to make excuses and present a pile of cope. You can indeed play how you want but if you are going to play scummy, at least own that.

Killer was only stressful when SBMM was new and actually matched sweaty killers with opponents on their level. These days you can camp and tunnel to your heart's content since the low soft caps will never actually consistently match you with good players regardless of how much you win.
Well that is a matter of opinion I guess as many people find killer pretty stressful and I find survivor more relaxing as you don't really get any down time as killer. I don't think SBMM is really present most of the time and the game will prioritise faster games than more accurate matchmaking

If you can get away with not tunneling the first person out ASAP, you're not playing against Survivors at your skill level.
The Killer's objective is to kill. They will trend towards whatever strategy gets them kills the fastest. And the Survivor's objective is to survive. If they make mistakes, the natural consequence should be for them to die.
If you really want tunneling to stop that badly, you're gonna be looking at a pretty big overhaul of a lot of the game's core systems, especially the hook system, because when the Killer gets an unhook notification, they now know exactly where to find not one, but two survivors. And unless their Discordance just popped or they're already in another chase, the logical next step is to go back to the hook. And given that the Killer's objective is to kill, then unless they have a big incentive not to, they're gonna go for the survivor that's closer to dying.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3296390#Comment_3296390
Oh, so my team should leave the bombsites undefended on purpose because that would be more "fair"? Wait for them to plant before making a single move?
People like you who feel the need to make up a million arbitrary rules for other people's conduct and chastise them for using basic strategy are easily among the most toxic players in the community, especially in endgame chats.
Just because the matchmaking system doesn't give you a fair fight doesn't mean you get to decide how everyone else should play the game.
This is just a lot of excuses for playing in a scummy way and if you feel you need to do that then I can't stop you.
But I continue to win most matches without resorting to scummy tactics and oppressive builds. You can claim that I am not going against good survivors but at some point if I am winning and easily getting rank 1 Iri within the first couple of weeks of reset, I must at some point be matched against better opponents.
You do you but I refuse to play like this and perpetuate the cycle of toxicity

Nobody likes dying in CS:GO. Does that mean you shouldn't kill your opponents when you have the chance? Or perhaps you should buy a bad gun on purpose because that would be more "fair", and people who choose otherwise are just noobs?
If you can get away with making bad plays on purpose, game-throwing plays even, then that is a failure of the matchmaking system. A Killer who chooses to tunnel or camp at an opportune moment is no more dishonorable than a CS:GO player who throws a flashbang.
Lol no, these are not comparable at all. You have no other way to dispatch of your opponent in shooters, shooting is the main mechanic other than things like grenades etc.
Your objective in DBD is to prevent gens getting done and kill the survivors... how you do that is up to you.
I see who I play against, I often play with the same people so I know their skill level. But pressure, mindgames and game sense all win games and you can do it without playing in a scummy and unfun way.
People just want to make excuses for their scummy conduct
-

DbD has one of the most extensive and rigid codes of ethics that I know of for a PvP game. Where you are looked down on not merely for griefing, throwing, cheating or playing a particular character, but literally just for using the correct strategy to win. A strategy that Killers regularly use in tournaments, mind you.
No one is under an obligation to make bad decisions on purpose in a PvP game, just because that would be more "fair". Tunneling and camping (When the situation calls for it) is the optimal strategy. If you can get away with outright refusing to tunnel or camp, then you're clearly getting matched with bad survivors. If you were actually playing against survivors at your skill level, refusing to tunnel or camp should be regularly costing you kills.
Sometimes it does cost me kills, sometimes it may even lose me the match but I am okay with this as more often than not I get pressure from keeping them busy unhooking.
I made very clear that actually skilled teams (as in tournaments) can deal with this but in public lobbies 99% of players are casual and not difficult to win against.
Call me old fashioned but I don't like to inflict on others what I don't enjoy and I know that being tunnelled out of the game so you cant even play is a horrible feeling, so I refuse to inflict this on others if they are not being toxic to me (tea bagging, clicking, spam vaulting). I don't run NOED, I refuse to use Eruption or mind numbing full slowdown builds...
Against a truly skilled comp level team, most will lose whether they tunnel or camp and lets be honest here, people tunnel and camp because they can't win by outplaying their opponent in an honourable way. This may not matter to others and so be it but it does matter to me.

There is no excuse. Because its not against any rules. I couldnt care less if anyone respects what I do. Espescially if i just sacrificed 4 of you. Dont care about how much fun my opponents are having. Your fun is no concern to a killer. Im there to end your fun.
This is one of the big problems with DBD... there are a lot of people with an incredibly selfish attitude and it creates a cycle of toxicity that can make this game incredibly unfun.
You are there to kill, not to "end fun" and if you are actually good at the game you can do both. I never tunnel, never camp and I win at least 90% of my killer matches. I am not even that good as far as I am concerned but I still manage to play 'fair' while winning at the same time.
-
Taking a hit for your team mates/blocking hooks is all part of the game and when you play killer you need to accept that. Blocking someone in a corner as killer is holding them hostage and totally not okay so make sure you always report that as it is completely unacceptable conduct
-
Against 99% of public lobbies there is absolutely no excuse for tunnelling or camping, people are just bad at the game and will excuse their scummy tactics with all manner of sophistry.
I totally understand it in a competitive (lol) setting as these players are not your average solo queue casual and they expect this. But doing this is public lobbies just makes the game absolutely miserable and I have zero respect for it.
-
Well as a former Nurse main who still pulls her out every so often if I need to complete a silly challenge and I need to ensure a win with ease...
I think that making all her post blink attacks special attacks is a given. Perks like Starstruck should not work on her - period. A teleporting killer should not have the ability to insta-down as it is just too strong. Devour being an exception as it is obviously a very RNG based Hex perk.
Spookyloops did a suggestion vid in the last day or so where he proposed making it so only her first blink can teleport through objects and this would go some way to reducing her strength, thoughI don't think it will do that much as her first blink is usually used to line up the second more accurate blink for the hit/down and I rarely blink through objects on my second blink.
I often send myself to Lery's with the Matchbox addon so I have only 1 blink and I still win pretty much every match. I would not be against 1 blink being base kit if her base movement speed was increased to compensate. I also like using the Spasmodic Breath addon which of course makes it so you are a normal speed killer after a successful blink hit but you cannot blink for a minute and this sounds bad but I still win with this fairly easily.
Nurse definitely needs to be looked at and I was in denial about this for a long time as a Nurse main. But I want to be able to play her again without feeling bad and only wanting to run meme builds so I can sleep at night lol

Good point actually, they are all free anyway so yeah

If everyone had fun and end game chat is wholesome that is the most satisfying win condition for me. I literally do not care if everyone escapes if the match was fun, though like most killers I 'win' the vast majority of my matches regardless and by win I mean 4k or one escapes the hatch/exit

a 70% win in solo is better than almost every pro streamer i watch (beside hens)
Yes it is an anomalously high escape rate for solo queue... I can understand that for a SWF but solo? Nah, no way.
-
The first response from tippy summed it up well
I think the power of a SWF is often overstated as the majority of the player base are casuals and even a 4 man of casuals is going to have a rough time against an experienced player who is playing a higher tier killer.
The problems happen when high level survivors play together and go into public matches, as they throw the usual balance of the game way out and unfortunately many of these players (not all) seem to enjoy making the killers match miserable over doing the objective.
Often you will still win against the more troll SWF teams, as they will spend more time trying to get blinds/saves and use various 'techs' on you instead of actually doing gens. But these wins feel empty as the process of getting that win is stressful and you have to put up with a lot of toxicity.

Yeah I just don't buy these claims and I am not saying I am a survivor god but I am quite experienced with a lot of hours on survivor and I would say my escape rate is maybe 30% on average
-
I rarely escape these days and I just do not believe those who claim they 'win' more often than not in solo queue.
The problem now is full slowdown builds and in particular Eruption on already strong killers like Nurse or Blight. DC's and suicides on hook don't help either but solo queue lately is often reduced to trying to salvage points before dying.
Not like I am a baby survivor, I have 3k hours (3 accounts lol) in DBD and while I do play killer a fair bit I would consider myself a survivor main overall.
I feel DBD was quite survivor sided before but I am at the point where I feel like I am only going to play killer or just stop playing again for while
-
I am not too worried about it tbh, my big problem as survivor is Eruption and I will continue to complain until they finally nerf this insidious perk.
I strongly recommend Distortion with the current meta otherwise assume the killer is running Lethal
-
Killer is easier but far more stressful, SWF is easy mode and solo survivor is by far the hardest role in DBD.
Because the game is RNG based matches can sometimes favour killer more than survivor etc. But most maps are survivor sided in my opinion but the game has recently become a bit killer sided due to the current gen control meta and nerfs (mostly justified) to the survivor meta

Yes a long time ago though not entirely sure when
-
There is no etiquette with a DC at 5 gens as far as I am concerned. Either kill everyone off quickly or farm to salvage some points, it is up to you and you don't owe everyone else anything.
I personally will usually want to just move on and if you are the killer I will make that very clear. But if the killer wants to salvage some points with some hook trades and a few chases etc I will generally go along with it.

Well thank you for all the useful inputs here, some interesting points were raised but I think I have made my opinion very clear and there is not much point continually repeating myself over and over.
Hopefully BHVR figures out something ASAP to get rid of this disgusting exploit of game/map/killer design, as it will start to hurt the game more and more when all the scummy players come out of their caves to start ruining every match

You aren't understanding the situation but having gone over this so much in the last while I am tired of repeating myself.
Please watch at least the first 2 or so minutes of this video so you can understand what people are frustrated with. You can pretty much skip most of the rest and go to the end as you will get the general idea by then.
Nobody is complaining if survivors greedily rush the safest gens and ignore the unsafe/mid gens and 3 gen themselves...
