Survivors need to learn how to waste time with chases. It's far more beneficial for the team as a whole of everyone can keep the killer busy and not just rely on never being found.

True. Distortion was a crutch for too long. And it promoted rat-gameplay.

I personally liked PTB version more, but I am quite happy it's gone.

Funny is I hated Distortion (players) more while playing a survivor than killer.

So true. As killer I always kinda knew whwre people could be, but as Survivor, having 2 Distortion players in your team meant 2 would get tunneled out really early.

People run alert? I probably see that perk maybe once every 3 or more months, survivor aura reading perks other than windows is a complete waste of a perk slot else their pick rates am sure would be up there but it's not not even kindred, windows is the only one and I don't run this perk so even if it was to be nerf ty God this way Sable can stop throwing all the pallets when I need them.

Alert is a very good perk. The problem is that there is so much that is miles better.

Same with aura perks on killer. They got hard countered by one perk so only some people used more than one (except maybe Huntress). Gen defense is way better. Now Distortion is no longer a brain dead perk, so more killers will use more aura again

Object does require you to be the obsession for the every 30 seconds reveal.

Also Windows is probably the biggest offender of "no input required" aura reading.

I have been playing with Object for 3 years now. And in 80% or more matches I am the obsession. Also sometimes it s better not to have the passive reveal.

What do you think it's supposed to do in this instance? Wait for you to finish your vault? Insta teleport you to the side you're vaulting to?

Just not work. Wesker (and I think Legion as well) also can't dash over it as long as the vaulting animation is not finished. Any Means is also canceled when the killer breaks the pallet. So why should Vecna be able to use his power?

Try verifying the files! I did it when I posted this discussion and have not gotten this issue ever since. It can still happen eventually, but I noticed people who did not verify their files are gettting it very often. I guess it's something they're aware of and a well known issue at the moment, I see even streamers getting it while live. I want to think there is nothing to fear and they're aware of EAC being funny!

I did it and it did not appear after. Thanks

  • Eh... since when does The Game have exits who are far away from each other?

Also your suggestion doesn't change much. If you block the exit switch survivors will just hide while you search the gates then use the red light start to get out anyway.

If DBD was a 1v1 game, then previous distortion would have been fine. But it's not a 1v1 game, it's a 1v4 game. Distortion was too strong for what it did and it affected your teammates by making them easier targets. Now distortion requires survivors be a little bit aggressive for stacks instead of just hiding the entire time.

Plus what people always seem to forget to mention when they bring up killer aura reading is the slot cost. If a killer is running 4 aura perks then gens should fly meaning that while the killer is capable of finding survivors, they lack the means to effectively defend gens. Not to mention many aura reading perks are still bad and don't see use. So ultimately survivors really only need to be prepared to deal with whatever the top 5 aura reading perks are.

True. Distortion was the only perk who rewarded aura-safety through being stealthy.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3814926#Comment_3814926

It's a 1v4. The killer perks are going to be stronger on a direct comparison to what survivors have access to, because a killer only has 4 slots whereas a team of survivors has 16.

Also everything requires no input if you ignore things that do require input. Gearhead requires you injure a survivor. Opening a locker is an input. Kicking a gen is an input.

Nurses may not require a specific key press, but the killer still has to be close to you for the aura reveal and often means you already see or hear the healing action already. Nurses isn't even popular right now as it's not very strong for the slot.

Survivor seeing killer breaking stuff with Alert, no survivor input required.

Kindred: doesn't matter if you or your teammate is hooked, it shows the aura.

Object: every 30s you see the killer while you do nothing. See the killer when they see you and still do nothing.

    Bond/Empathy: do nothing

    Should I go on?

  • @Yamskeezy said:

You made it a waste of a perk slot. How many times a match do you think your aurora is revealed a match? Imagine a killer With a weave atunement franklins demise and two other aurora perk build. The aurora will be revealed like 20-30 times a match and now you are lucky to get 6 hidden auroras a match (two before each hook). Unless they have new predator you escape chase and lose a token you were better off bringing a different perk. 3 tokens was very fair, but now two tokens only getting it back in chase just made this a waste of a perk slot. I am a survivor main and run distortion heavy. It is a niche perk, some games it doesn’t proc at all and i waste a perk slot or some games i thank god a brought it. On matches where killer has an aurora build all 3 tokens are gone before the first gen. Nerf aurora builds good killers dont need wall hacks. Survivors have their aurora revealed for anything, spawning in a match, unhooking a friend, going in a locker, completing a gen, taking protection hit, weave atunement franklins demise is also busted. Bbq chilli, no where to hide, and now the new predator perk. With new predator i will get two tokens back in chase then lose one as soon as i escape chase, that is sad. Distortion is nerfed to garbage tier perk. Make it so you still have 3 tokens but recharge them doing gens. So survivors have incentive to do the objective. Now instead of people hiding you sill have 3 survivors trying to steal a chase wasting time trying to get their distortion back instead of doing gens.

Maybe it's time to take off the crutches.

Or try Object. It's really underrated

This is definitely a bug, I was once thrown to the side when I vaulted a pallet and the killer lifted the pallet and calmly got me because the game threw me further away and I had to take the long way to the window

Apparently it is intended. But as we all know: A lot of things that were "intended" were removed later.

  • I just had this Error (only with (1/2) instead of (2/2)) seconds before the lobby timer went to 0. I restarted the game and it was fine for the next match, but now I am a bit scared, because it's an EAC error that sounds like it could get me in trouble.

I never did anything sus. I only use personal icons (I have been for over 5 years without issues), AMD Adrenaline and in this case Windows Game Bar to record the match. Could it be that EAC did not like the Game Bar recording software?

huh? I mean depending on your positioning as a survivor you can just die either way. You either get hit because he denies you the vault, or you get hit cuz he chases you after the pallet is lifted. But what I am saying is that him taking you out of the vault animation or him denying the vault altogether are the exact same thing. He gets the hit cuz he didn't let you vault.

But the counterplay is to fake him out. Make him think youre gonna vault but then keep running. Or get him to lift the pallet then drop it back on him. Or commit to the vault and make him hesitate and you get space while he gets slowed. If you are in the position where you get the pallet lifted on you and you are gonna get hit, you already had your chance to counterplay, it was before you got to that position. You failed. Play Vecna and try to consistently get survivors off of pallets. You'll see it's not that easy against survivors who know what they're doing.

Like what you're saying is kinda like "wesker is dashing at me and I'm 1 meter away from him and there's not enough time for me to move out of the way when he's that close. There is no counterplay". It's like bruh you already had your chance at counterplay XD now you get hit.

To be precise, it was on Borgo, one of those pallets at the side of a house. He was still inside the house, I had enough distance to vault. So I did that. He uses MH the moment he sees my item disappear, to tp me to him so he can M1 me. There was no time to react. Faking the vault would have gotten me hit as well. Vaulting was the only safe option.

  • @NekoTorvic said:

This is an actual thing a Vecna player may do against you. It's always been a thing, but It is way harder to do than it may seem. It's not just "hold it till survivor vaults" The timing is quite precise. Most likely you'll end up either preventing the vault altogether or just lifting the pallet after the vault. Either way, it basically ends up being the same as when he prevents the vault altogether. He gets the hit if you did not play around mage hand properly.

It feels nice to pull off as Vecna since the timing is so tight and it feels like you denied the vault. I don't think it should be changed. As is evident by the fact you thought it was a new thing, this is a hard to pull off, not very common thing indeed.

On the topic of VPNing tho. Bad ping is absolutely atrocious on Vecna cuz it delays your spells pretty horrendously. Like it feels really bad to play whenever the game puts you in a server that has higher ping. I would imagine no one would willingly VPN with this killer.

That makes it even worse, because there is no counterplay. You get hit either way, even if you don't vault. You cannot make him miss or something.

Wesker can do something similar only as the pallet drops, dashing to the side around the loop, but you can still play around this.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

when mage hand is used on a pallet, you cannot vault. what is happening is that you queue vault but killer used mage hand at the same time. the server backtracks event and you get m1 hit. your internet/connection to the server is not good. it is ping issue/networking issue.

How can it be a ping issue if I have 35ms ping and it never happened before? It also never happened to me when I played Vecna. If this is a ping issue it still needs to be fixed, because VPN killers will abuse stuff like this.

Also the pallet was not just upright (usually you can slap that down instantly again), it was held in place like MH does with unused pallets.

  • I remember the old "lighthouse" totems on all the original maps (top of the hill totem). The totem was located where the hook was, for everyone to see.

    Also horrible old locations:

    • besides a single tree.
    • Out in the open (usually on Crotus Prenn Asylum)
  • The problem with current Distortion is that it rewards being stealthy with even more stealth, which is bad design. All other stealth perks have active requirements like getting hit, getting unhooked or placing a Boon.

If you had 2 Survivors with Distortion in a group, and the killer had at least 1 aura perk, the players without Distortion were tunneled out while the Distortion users were not even hooked once. The killer is usually not at fault.

100% this. Play "fair" as survivors put it and killer gets t bagged at the gates by a group of survivors that then throw insults post match. "Get good" or complain about a perk being used as a crutch.

If survivors want no tunneling, camping or slugging then gens completion should take longer so the killer has time to spread the hooks. (They won't like that either). I actually used to spread hooks majority of my games, win or lose. That was until the gens started popping crazy fast and survivors attitude post game was generally awful match after match. Since then....I just do what I need to do to win and have fun regardless of what the survivor rulebook says.

That is why I play neutral/chill until someone is mean to me. Then I don't care about being nice anymore.

You are T-bagging as a survivor and I play a killer who can do the same? Yeah I will do that.

You want to desperately get into my face after getting unhooked? I will tunnel you.

  • @Autharia said:

All I'd like is if people would stop tunnling, camping, and slugging. This includes the slugging the 3rd kill to make the game take 4 more minutes just so you can get 500more BP.

It's not for the BP, it's for their ego. A 3k does not look as good as a 4k.

  • I don't really care what perks you bring. Just be respectful and don't insult me. Don't be a dick.

Examples: There is no need to tunnel and/or camp at 5 or 4 gens. You don't need to slug for a 4k to get a win (3k is enough for MMR) unless you have a challenge or do the adept. You don't need to wait for me to crawl to the exit/hatch only to pick me up 1m before I escape. Just sacrifice me and move next.

    Same goes for survivors too.

  • 7.3k hrs here (I literally started 6y ago exactly), mostly on survivor but I also play killer.

I have to say it's a love-hate-relationship. I really don't know why I still play. Probably because I have some friends playing too.

  • Pyramid Head: Am I a joke to you?

Seriously, there are other killers who can tunnel WAY better than him.

  • Can confirm. My DS was 40s and Broken from Deliverance was 120s.

  • @Adrien said:

I'm a PH enjoyer, he is one of my favourite killer like Bubba, but I play mostly survivor.

Hard tunnelling Pyramid Head is basically old facecamp Bubba in terms of skill, game sense and game enjoyment.

It's very easy to destroy a survivor, especially with one of the strongest 1 v 1 anti loop in the game. At least Bubba had a mediocre chase potential. Same can be said with just sitting around 12 meter of the cage to use punished of the damned during uncage animation.

Also PH add-ons are still too weak despite one nice buff (crimson ceremony book) and maybe needs a QoL improvement.

    NERF

    Cages of Atonement:

    • IF RELEVANT : change the caged survivor spawn location to make it less obvious (very hard to understand the figure of this mechanic, seems like a 90 degress circle with a minimum distance from the killer).
    • Relocation Trigger radius decreased to 16 meters (was 10).
    • Relocation Trigger timer decreased to 2 seconds (was 3.5).
    • A survivor caged for the first time will give no sound/location cue (explosion) on the rescue animation.

    BUFF

Note : PH synergizes well with stealth and aura reading stuffs.

Rites of Judgement : moderately increases the turn rate while holding the power to improve navigation around loops/acute angles.

    Add-ons :

    Iridescent rarity :

    • Obsidian goblet : grants the undetectable status effect while using Rites of judgement and standing on trails, lingering effect of 5 seconds (was while standing on trail of torment only without lingering effect).
    • Iridescent seal of metatron : sending a survivor to a cage will reveal the aura of survivors in a 4 meter radius around generators for 6 seconds (was tormented survs).

    Purple rarity :

    • Scarlet egg : reveals the aura of survivor for 5 seconds when they get tormented (was a killer instinct increase).
    • Lost memories book : oblivious status effect for 45 seconds when getting tormented (was 15 secs).
    • Rust-coloured Egg : inflicts the broken status effect for 30 seconds when getting tormented (was 60 secs of blindness).

    Green rarity :

    • Valtiel sect photograph : reduces the recovery time by -8 seconds (was -4). Weak effect anyway (PH doesn't need full bar refilled to use his power).
    • Misty day, remains of judgment : reaveals the aura of survivor for 3 seconds (was killer instinct).
    • Mannequin foot : increases the duration of Torment Trails in the environment by 30 seconds (was 20).

    Yellow rarity :

    • Leopard-print fabric : increases killer instinct by 2 seconds (was 0.5 seconds).
    • Forgotten videotape : reduces the recovery time by 6 seconds (was 3).
    • Cinderella music box : increases the trail of torment in environnement by 20 secs (was 15).

    Brown rarity :

    • Dead Butterfly : reduces recovery time by 4 seconds (was 2).

    ________________________________________________________________________

    End of suggestions.

    Let me know your opinions.

    Thanks for reading.

As a Wesker main: Who is the better tunneler? Wesker (pre infection nerf) or PH now?

I think it's PH, because it's so easy in comparison to Wesker tunnel.

  • I see more killers use 4 gen slowdowns than 4 aura perks (exception: Huntress).

Being hidden against Lethal is HUGE, as you are most likely not the first person to get chased. BBQ can be avoided by going into a locker and count to 4 (or 6 with Lethal). Guess what people did when BBQ was meta and Distortion did not exist…

Zanshin is nice for mindgames but not much else, as you need to be around a DROPPED pallet. Usually killers break every significant pallet.

WA+Fraklin's is another story and will be probably nerfed next time. I suggest just testing for the perk at the start of the match and then hide your item in a corner until you need it.

I can only reccomment trying Object, especially now. The perk has been underrated und under-appreciated for years now (since its nerf tbh). True, if you like to hide, this perk is maybe not for you, but as it shows you the killer when they see you, you get a ton of information and they can't mindgame you anymore as well.

OTR works against auras, but it has a specific timeframe it can be active, and it doesn’t announce to the survivor which aura perks the killer has. Which is why it is balanced.

OTR is the perfect example of an aura blocking perk that is balanced. Object is another good example of a balanced anti-aura perk, because it’s alerting the survivor when their aura is read, but it’s not actually blocking the aura reading.

Meanwhile, I ran an experiment with Distortion earlier this year, and found that in the vast majority of my survivor games, I made it through the entire game without having my aura read. It’s just really rare for my survivor to be in games where the killer is stacking enough aura reading to force an aura reveal. And by the way, perks like floods of rage (which I can’t reliably dodge) have a super low pick rate, and I can’t even remember the last time I played against it. I see Lethal, BBQ, and NTH way more often than anything else.

This is exactly what I mean. Either the perk needs 1 token at max or earning them has to be more active like getting chased.

  • @CleanseThis said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3791929#Comment_3791929

I mean you don't need direct knowledge that the killer used Lethal do you? you can assume they have it by the fact that the killer is coming towards you or a teammate at the start plus it shouldn't completely negate Lethal. I'm glad you brought up NTH, its a perk that gives potentially really valuable info aslong as I approach a gen being worked on, kick it and hopefully the survivor is within range. The difference between your aura being revealed and it not is HUGE.

Even without Lethal the killer might find you quickly. I don't remember how many times I found survivors by looking at Crows.

I just don't want to get perks completely destroyed (which happened so many times). There needs to be a perk that works against auras as more and more aura perks exist. The difficult part is to balance Distortion so that it does not completely destroys a single aura perk but still works to a degree when multiple perks are used. Gen regression and 2nd chance perks have the same problem.

As an Object player I know exactly what having your aura constantly revealed is like. There is a reason I don't use the perk without OTR. You NEED a breather at one point.

I completely understand your position, but the problem is not NTH or Lethal by themselves. It's BBQ+Lethal+NTH+Gearhead or similar which make it hard. Maybe reducing the tokens to 1 at a time would do.

  • @CleanseThis said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3791922#Comment_3791922

i like your idea but the problem with the perk itself is that it hard counters from the get go. I think it needs to require an activation to actually be able to start getting some value, sort of like coup.

That is why I gave it one token at the start. One aura block is free. Lethal Pursuer or whatever comes first. This way the killer has the chance to notice that the perk exists. And it keeps the stealth aspect many users like. Many users tell me that they don't like Lethal because they don't know it'a active at the start. Or that NTH is difficult to evade (where do 32m around a gen end?). The information the perk provides is also insane.

But after one use, they need to engage with the killer to gain more stealth. You can chase and hook them and use your aura perks on other survivors after.

  • @YayC said:

It's a completely uncounterable mechanic that leads to ridiculous situations. I had someone down under a pallet, the guy with DS was hanging around for the pallet save and would just jump into a locker anytime I went near them to down them so I could actually pickup the other person. So I either pickup and get pallet saved or grab out the locker, eat the DS and they get picked up. DS is supposed to be used as an anti-tunnel perk yet it's consistently used aggressively in ridiculous situations like this.

Remove it's ability to work out a locker grab. You delete things like scamper for having "no counterplay", remove this terrible interaction with DS.

That is one person less on gens. Be happy about it. Wait until it runs out, place a trap in front of the locker or bait them out to get a hit or just wait in front of the locker (just don't let them bait you into grabbing them and then wait another 5-10s more).

Imo DS must work inside of a locker to prevent killers from just slugging you until it runs out (that was a problem very long ago). It is only usable once per match.

  • @SoGo said:

I saw an interesting Distortion rework idea recently.

The change was, that now instead of shielding the player from having their aura read, it would convert every aura read into a scream. To compensate, it would work without the need to gain tokens.

So, to sum it up: You scream instead of having your aura read.

That's worse, because the killer still gets your location. Unless you combine it with Calm Spirit.

  • I don't think any of the perk's properties are the problem. The REAL problem is that it incentivises the killer to "tunnel" or better: focus on only 2 people. I have been playing with 2 friends who both use Distortion. In many of our games we end up me and the random being on death hook while my friends weren't hooked once. I also noticed that as killer myself if I play with aura perks. If I can't see you I will go for people I CAN see.

In addition tokens will refill when being stealthy. This means that they will get more stealth when being stealthy, which is imo an unhealthy design.

Therefore I proposed the following nerf some time ago:

Distortion starts at 1 Token. For each 20s in chase, you get a Token up to 3.

The rest stays as it is.

This way players have to engage a bit with the Killer to gain stealth in return. All other stealth perks require you to do something actively like getting hooked or being injured. 20s should be doable even for players who play more stealthy. But I will tell you something: you are hiding because you are bad at looping. How about you get a bit out of your comfort zone so you don't need to hide as much anymore?

  • The killer is new. Learn how to go against him. Playing AS him also helps. If you don't have him unlocked, watch a YT video or stream of someone playing him.

As Bat, he is faster, but he can only see your scratch marks. Very similar to Spirit. If you don't run, you can hide pretty well.

As Wolf, he will get faster for about 3s as he collects "scent orbs" to charge his Wesker-like dash attack. Unlike Wesker, the wolf's attack has a pre-defined jump. You can dodge it with a bit of practise. Also pallet breaks with this jump take longer. Therefore if you cam make him freak an object, you gain distance.

As Vampire, his hellfire works similar to Nemesis' tentacle. It does not have a dragging hitbox though afaik. It can go over basically anything that is of less hight than a survivor. If he's charged the spell you see it in his hand (you need to look back in chase, if you can't you need to learn. Trust me, it will improve your chase a lot). Try to fake vaulting windows Orr similar. He is slowed down when holding the spell.

It's useless against stealth killers though so is not a solution in anyway. I think its hilarious that killer mains are still saying Weave doesn't need a nerf or rework when it is now on the roadmap to be nerfed and even Otz has said it needs one.

I never said that it doesn't need a nerf. And yes, Object is not as useful against stealth killers (except Mirror Myers, or aura Wraith/Pig), but it has more use for me than not. But this is not about Object.

I also have some ideas on how to nerf WA. And that is just one single change:

    1. The item must be visible once entering the radius.

This way survivors can find the item and place it somewhere out of the way. The problem at the moment is, that the AOE is huge and you have no idea where the item is. This way survivors get reasonable counterplay but need to waste a bit of time to do so.

A "syringe" that requires 2 full chest searches and can't be activated whenever the player wants. Reducing the timer will not make the perk broken, even if they cut it in half.

I also like your ideas though and I agree that this perk requires way too much setup and can be canceled by the killer too easily

I'm just a bit careful concerning automated heals, but I understand.

  • @SoGo said:

Just cut the timer a bit and it'll be all good. The 60 seconds seem like way too much. The only 2 scenarios where this perk does it's thing are either if the survivor who's being chased is much better than the killer, or they are on a very good map in an area with a lot of resources.

The problem is that if you make the timer too short you will basically get a syringe.

Does anyone else remember the old pallet vacuum? I can't imagine going against today's version of a good looper with those kinds of mechanics LOL

That is some of the cheese I would not like to see. Same with insta BNP, Flashlight blind or insta mori.

That doesn't work. Only one person can be the Obsession at a time.

And Dying Light counters that, and soon so will Wretched Fate.

Only the active aura read which happens every 30s can be used by the obsession. All other aura reading will still activate the perk even if you are not the obsession.

I have been playing with this perk for the last 2.5 years now.

  • Let me guess: they put an AND command instead of an OR command in the code or for some reason managed to type in - 1 instead of 1

  • Coconut did it again, I assume.

"We will make them suffer! Pain! How many Chainhunts will we get in a row!

    YESSSSSS!"

  • Or if we change the sorting via filters, SAVE IT. So everyone can choose.

  • With the cages there is no pallet saves, FL saves, no sabo no altruism whatsoever connected to the pick-up or carrying process. That results in more gens being worked on.

So I don't think cages are a good idea.

  • If more killers were allowed for this mode, I would also love if it stayed. BUT as this is not the case, I would rather play normal mode than get the x's time Wraith with Huntress.

It reminds me of one of the worst eras in the game, where you would see nothing else but Nurse once you passed Rank4.

Was Trevor in the game, or show only?

I would really want him in DBD...

I also like Trevor a lot, but that was mainly because of Armitage's performance. And I think we would not get that in dbd. Sadly.

  • I don't know the games, just the Netflix cartoons.

I really don't mind who we get although my personal favourite is Trevor Belmond. And that is only because I really love Richard Armitage's performance.

  • If it weren't just Huntress + Wraith all the time I would say "yes". But the killer combinations are way too stale. Reminds me too much of Red Ranks in the old days where you only saw Nurse.
