As i already said in a previous thread, i dont think backfill should skip MMR.
But thats not really a players fault. Especially not a 20 hour killer who doesnt want to fight presiges 80+.
Thats the fault of the guy who thought matching people with 2k hours in the game and people with 20 was a good idea.
Each and every time they ask this community if they want quality matchmaking or faster queue times, the overwhelming response has always been in favor of queue times. So the only real chance for their MMR system to work as intended is that first or maybe second lobby, and the dodging & shopping around messes that up.

Are you familiar with the organ known as the heart? It is not an insignificant organ and having a heart attack can be deadly in real life. The Pig jump scares me too much with that growl. All I ask is her stealth to be removed, I can't with her, I just can't...
You must absolutely adore a JumpScare Myers who drags y'all into Lery's then.....

This is what I was worried about when Blight was getting his Hug Tech removed, people would use it as a justification to remove other techs. I really hate to see it since it ultimately dumbs down the game and removes a massive skill gap for both sides (play and counterplay).
Also, as a former Console player, I dont see the point in using Console as a justification to nerf things. PC can do some really cool things, so why not give Console players the tools to also do those cools things as well? It just seems really shallow to nerf PC instead of trying to make Console better to play on.
The best things they can do for console is much better optimization and M&K support.
Better optimization benefits all platforms, and apparently they do work constantly on it. But there needs to be more. This game lags in it's own menues for Entity's sake.
M&K support neatly gets rid of most of those concerns with what players can and can t do with a controller. Sadly they've said repeatedly over the years they have no plans to add it. One of the reasons given for removing Chucky's flick was because no controller player can do it.

As someone who got matched against a prestige 100 when i had less than 10 hours of gameplay, and against 2 80+ prestige survivors, one 75+ prestige survivor and one 40+ prestige survivor when i had less than 15 hours……. no. I didnt even had a single prestiged character by that point
Until the matchmaking is properly fixed and dont backfill horribly, dodging some lobbies is a must.
Full stop.
It's that dodging that causes the backfills though!

If the killer is having the lag symbol they should be kicked from the room. Almost every game the killer has the lag symbol and everyone gets killed because he is LAGGING. Kick these people OUT. ADD A PING LIMIT
The problem with this is there aren't enough servers globally for players wishing to play DBD. I many parts of South America and Asia for example the coverage is often very poor, leading many to use VPNs etc.

No, survivors who die on hooks corpses should stay on the hook. That way the hook can’t be used and the game would actually have a little bit of horror to it again. It wood be very cool to be the last survivor running past the hooked corpses while desperately trying to find hatch.
I like this idea. Maybe the current hook sacrifice animation can be used at the end of the trail once all the survs are dead or escaped, all shown at the same time.

@ChaosWam said:
I'd certainly like it if the new engine could handle it.
Not only would it be nice to catch hacking players, but also just to review my own plays and see where I can improve.
I'd ike to see it added in as well. But the story goes is it's too late now, a replay system would have had to been coded originally in back in 2016.
-
I view this exactly the same as survs 3-genning themselves. Hooks are a resource that killers need to keep in mind. But I also think several maps need their hook spawns tweaked.
With the upcoming changes to sabo, maybe a generic killer perk may be helpful, I'll call it Mechanic for now. It would reinforce hooks in the killer's terror radius or something on a down, say for like 10 seconds, making them take twice as long to sabo. Something like that.
Y'all mess around with this idea, some really creative folks around the forum. And it needs a better name. 😂🤣

Around the forum lurks members of the Cult of Lightborn, who with great passion and glee expound on the virtues of running that particular perk. That or Franklin's may help you quite a bit here, and putting your face into a wall can work well for flashys.
As for the back to back blinding, yeah kinda surprised that is still a thing. Happening at pallets, pretty much just annoying. But with coordination for pick-up saves for instance that's a problem.
-
@AshInTheTallGrass said:
You can change your buttons so the "drop a pallet" button is no longer the same as the "heal" button. Recently, I've had a few fellow console players mistakenly drop the pallet on me when they tried healing me.

I am up to a 15 minute DC penalty because I’ve been trying to play the Chaos mode game but it repeatedly crashes in the middle of the match and shows all five players disconnected on the score screen, with a pop up message ‘dedicated server not responding’.
I don’t think there should be a penalty for a server-side failure.Their system doesn't differentiate between connection issues or players manually leaving, and applies the penalties the same. Otherwise it would be open to abuse with players pulling their own plug for instance.
Most of the time I haven't been getting a penalty when I receive that particular error message, but it has happened.

I’ve enjoyed the randomness but I think what also made it feel good was how casual it felt and not sweaty. I feel this is kinda what a casual mode would feel like.
I agree. It's a shift in the mindset some. Most players aren't sweating and there's more of a "just go with it" mentally. Do what you can with what you're given, and kinda run around a bit.
Healthy alternative to the standard mode I'd say.
-
Playing her this way is pretty much throwing the trial. It takes what, two and a half minutes now to do this? At best?
Unless the teammates are not doing anything at all they should do the gens and get out. Definitely a loss for the killer, with either one pop or one sacrifice.

No. No lobby just to get bad teams and not knowing what people are bringing for items on top of that? I'd go next on 1st hook if the lobby went away. Besides, we can't block people and I'm not playing with griefing trolls.
I need to see the lobby to know if I want to bring bps or not as well.
I still see it as a player prioritizing themselves over their teammates and their opponents.
-
@MrPenguin said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3725540#Comment_3725540
Not exactly.
If you lobby dodge you do so knowing you're not really effecting anyone. It's pretty harmless.
If you give up you do so knowing you're going to cause the cascade of problems I listed before, and doing it anyways because you don't care if you screw over everyone else.
That's a pretty significant change in mindset imo.
Lobby dodging does indeed do great harm, by screwing up the matchmaking big time.
-
@appleas said:
Lobby shopping could be resolved by making matchmaking more strict. The game can't backfill a 50 hour killer into a 2k hour survivor lobby if the matchmaking range is much more strict.
This issue of having loose MMR for a quicker lobby wouldn't have happened if there was a better distribution of player count on both sides.
They tried much stricter MMR about a year or so back. All the veteran players hated back to back to back sweaty matches, and hated the longer queue times for those sweaty matches. Then it was quickly changed back.

What is going on with the mmr? Im an pretty average player (150 hours). And recently i have been going against really strong killers, one of the killers i went against was a p100 doctor..
I used to go against killers around my lvl but recently i loose every match and it is kind of frustrating.
Welcome! 😊
Sounds like you've been backfilled out of your MMR area. As players dodge lobbies (killers and survs) and your lobby waits and waits, the acceptable range of MMR widens. And if players are waiting long enough their system just grabs the next available person and throws them on in.
Prolly what happened to you.

Ah, I think we disagree finally lol. I dont see the killer/franklins issue an issue at all. Survivors will bring anti- tunnel/camping/aura perks without know if the killer is running anything of that ilk. That makes it fair. Does it make it balanced?
Well, no. At the moment, people are used to the game being the way it is. Any changes like this not only has to be good for the game, but also chew through all those who would challenge it due to 'Thats how it always has been, why change?"
I've thought about how this no lobby would actually feel, and I can only find good things on both sides. Killers would get better at the game, survivors would get better… sounds like a win for everyone.
Would hate if 'Franklins' was the nope to this. All hope would be lost for me.
I agree something like Franklins preventing this would be absurd. Just would like to test it out.

I've talked about that a few times on the forums, and surprisingly only a little pushback. I figured killers would be VERY against that lol. Removing it would solve SO many problems. BHVR couldn't mess this up…
No lobbies would indeed solve a bunch of issues, like that swapping business, concerns over prestiges, fishing through profiles for those who can, etc. The main thing imo would be allowing the MMR system to function as intended.
But there would be side problems to deal with too, such as items. Killers wouldn't be able to bring Franklins for instance when they see two or more flashys or boxes. Things of that nature kinda need to be taken into account.
I still think it's worth exploring.

This doesn't sound too bad really. Last sec switching is dealt with also, so killers cant say 'Well, if we cant dodge, you can't use the W key in trial. its only fair compensation."
lol Im kidding ofc. We love our killer mains. :)
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3724909#Comment_3724909
I understand this reasoning, and it makes sense lol. Im sure Im an outlier, but those games with a team that seem to just be in the right place at the right time… I dunno, its rare but its a delight when it happens. I get challenged and its usually good chats in the EGChat. Dodging would just make me feel like I didn't believe in myself or some mushy crap like that lol.
I need more KYF in customs I think. Its always 400% more fun and better energy.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3724887#Comment_3724887
Back to topic though! This line here is another reason lobby dodging should go. I would -assume- survivors killing themselves on hook immediately would go down considerably if they could also lobby dodge.
But they can't. And to quote almost every killer I've had 'discussions' with on here: 'Thats not fair!'
I'm pretty sure 'fair and balanced' is one of those 'eye of the beholder' things. Everyone has their own definition. Lobby dodging should go as well as survivor switching last sec. Imo.
Not having a lobby at all neatly deals with both dodging and that last second swapping nonsense as well.
-
A hidden MMR, with tons and tons of RNG all over the place. DBD is an obnoxious & unique mix of both competitive and party. At the higher levels of sweaty and efficient play the cracks tend to break wide open. So the mentality going in also determines how the trials can go.

Saying that "a large part of the community is playing with exactly 3 people in a premade" is probably not true. Do you have any proof of that?
Duos are by far the most common SWF, with trios less numerous and quads even less so.
-
@Caiman said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3724904#Comment_3724904
It's not like the system works anyway.
Their MMR system gets one chance at a fair-ish trial, and a single dodge (by anyone) messes it up. The longer players wait the worse it gets, as queue times get prioritized over quality, until it grabs the next available player and throws them in.
This is the primary source of all those reports of a super unbalanced steamroll, be it a newbie killer rocked by awesome survs or a veteran killer wiping the floor with low lever survs. Neither should happen, and again we are knowingly doing it to ourselves.
-
Prioritizing your own fun (and perhaps sanity) for online gaming is very human.
Unfortunately in this game lobby shopping around is soooooo destructive to the matchmaking. The player is knowingly borking up the system, aware of the effects and doing it anyway. 😕
-
@Agaki said:

Honest question, how many killer players do you think would honestly queue up for ranked mode on that scenario?
Also do trios just not get to play the game then?
Yeah that was what I was wondering too. Also 4-mans are the rarest of the SWF groups, so that tiny portion of the playerbase would be pulled from for these ranked matches?
-
Lobby shopping and/or dodging by a killer does wreak their MMR pretty badly, and I often wonder what effect skipping lobbies altogether would have on the quality of matchmaking. I'd like to see this tested out.
There's not a lot of what I'd call "legit" reasons for leaving lobbies, things like real-life issues of course, and recognizing a known hacker I can get behind. Aside from that, shopping around to me seems like either passing "a problem" onto another killer, some kind of protest of current balancing, not liking some cosmetics, or simply looking for a personal definition of a "fair" trail. Smells like looking for an easier match to me.
When it comes to survs hoping lobbies it too is not good for proper-ish matchmaking, but less destructive imo.
In truth, how can we blast the devs for an MMR system that is being maneuvered around & bypassed like crazy, and not really given a good shot to do its thing?
-

Just played agains't one of the disgusting swf I have faced and match was struggle and very stressful. The survivors always ran to pallets perfectly and from there to best loop shack and main building after getting hit so I could not commit without losing and when I would had chance to get down they always bodyblocked at right time.
I got just 4 hooks barely before gens were done. In endgame 3 more due to them using most of the recourses and I managed just 1K with wraith. SoloQ in bad state but getting put to this kind of match just more painful than losing multiple solo matches a row. 7 hooks and 350K+ bp is not worst possible outcome but Im still stressed out after the match happened now 20 minutes ago.
I think because match like these killer still need buffs. MMR should be more strict especially for 4 man swf:s putting them agains't best killers nurses, billys and blights if they have good escape rate.
Sounds like you went against a very very good team out of your skill level some, but you actually did well with a killer not really currently able to be successful against such teams.
Like a year back they messed around with stricter MMR, and those veteran killers quickly tired of back to back to back super sweaty trials, plus the extra queue times that came with it. I think within two weeks or so the changed it back.
-
With CrossPlay off those players are only matched up with others just on their own platform that also have it off. Doesn't even work between the various Xbox's or PlayStations for instance, just your own platform.
So yeah quite the tiny pool of players to pull from.
-
Unknown just feels clunky and unresponsive with the controller. Not anywhere as bad as with Singularity, but similar in that there's lots to have to do & keep track of.
-
Those killers who have mastered him, and are super strong players anyway, can thrive in any bracket.

He is stronger in thr sense he can use S&D more often however scamper became useless ans getting hit by new scamper requires you to be absolutely unaware of what game you are playing, or have a serious visual and hearing impediment. Did he deserve the nerf? Yes absolutelly, old scamper was BS. Id say chucky is stronger vs bad players because they will get hit by S&D but good players just became inmune to S&D, but before even if the chucky was bad he could outplay a good player by using scamper.
In my opinion the only thing bhvr needs to do is keep this change but return chucky flicks, tha way scamper is actually a danger when a chucky player is good but it is fair, contrary to what PTB has which is a scamper not even a bot should get hit with.
I thought they removed those flicks because they could not be done on a controller?

What exactly makes it unfair? Does not everyone have the option to just buy certain hardware? Also what is the standard hardware that is not unfair, how good or bad is my headset allowed to be to not give me an unfair advantage?
Maybe we set the starting point at a Switch (or like me on the couch across the room with the Xbox connected to an ancient TV) and go from there? From a certain point of view anything above 30 frames can feel like cheating! 🤪😂

Latency and ping are mostly to blame. On the killer's screen they're like two or three steps closer to you than you see, and the Aim Dressing makes the animation sorta match up. Sorta.

The MMR system is active in this mode, but won't change your rating as a result of the trial's outcome. DC penalties still apply too.

Windows high usage says a lot of things: it's a free perk to unlock, new player friendly, veteran player useful, chase extender, resource minder, doesn't really directly benefit SWF, etc.
I'd like to see escape rates with & without Windows across the trials, so we have a better understanding of its effectiveness.

I mean, this is a nit-picky point to make but here I am anyway lol, but the issue of SWF vs SoloQ hasn't been here since forever, people used to not have the option to go into a trial already matched up with their friends.
Back when they were about to release the game in 2016 (at the time just coming to only Steam) they could either finish KYF or SWF modes, but not both for launch. They went with KYF.
Then survs wishing to team up would lobby dodge like mad until they got into the same lobbies together, and within like two weeks or whatever SWF was added in.

How the hell is Trapper and Doc with 4% pickrate. I almost never see them. Must be low MMR.
Also notice how most of characters that are free are also most played.
The Unknown stats are better than I thought, 64% winrate is pretty good (but also he was new so people died to him more than usual at the start).
Those two being free killers, relatively easy to learn, and console friendly to run (who make up the vast majority of the global playerbase) makes all the difference. I bet their usage would be even higher without high MMR numbers in there.
