  • Hopefully they also permanently kill switch AFK crows.

All of this could have been avoided with some very basic testing and actually listening to feedback from players before pushing it live into the biggest chapter release ever.

I understand that you're asking for videos of the situations people have been talking about—and I'm certain that video evidence of these incidents will start to pile up fairly quickly, and I will be doing my best to record my own run ins where I can—but here's the thing:

I, along with a lot of other people, don't want the dev team to try and bug fix this AFK and anti go next system. I want the entire system nuked from orbit, gone, completely reverted. While I get that you were trying to address a concern that (some) of the community had, there is no feasible way to have this system exist in game without either screwing over people who have done nothing wrong and are just playing the game, or without totally stripping away agency, choice and enjoyment from a large chunk of your player base.

Additionally: this entire system is actively hostile against new players, during the release of a chapter that has brought in record amounts of new players—who are not going to stick around as a result.

100% agree that the whole system needs to be nuked and that’s what most people want here. The only problem that needed to be addressed was (relatively rare) situations where two survivors remain and they hold the game hostage by hiding and not progressing gens. That’s an incredibly simple problem to solve and it should have been done a long time ago.

This feedback has been completely ignored and the dev team created a way-over-engineered solution to problems that don’t exist, and in the process they punished normal gameplay and forced people to play the game a very specific way to avoid punishment.

  • People have asked for this many, many times. I don’t know if the devs have ever officially responsed to this, but it’s very clear that they have no intention of ever enforcing ping limits in lobbies. Hell, they don’t even want you to be able to see your ping or other players’ pings until the game starts and then you find out that you’re stuck in an unfair match.

They are prioritizing player numbers over player experience, and so far it’s working out for them because very few if any players are quitting the game because of this issue.

  • Agree. I like to play a combination of chase and stealth, but like you said, stealth playstyle has been suffocated to death with recent changes. Unfortunately, I don’t think BHVR really cares. They have no doubt seen this type of feedback from other players who prefer a stealth playstyle but have chosen to kill it anyway.

  • It hasn’t been kill switched because apparently nobody is leaving the game because of it. BHVR sees player count at all time high, so what is their incentive to kill switch?

  • I play solo queue and I believe GF is pretty weak. He has no chase power and you just have to pay attention a little bit to avoid him sneaking up/exposing you. There are many other killers I find far more annoying or OP to go against than GF.

  • Unfortunately the only thing that is going to get BHVR to act with any urgency on this is if people stop playing. As long as the player count stays high and the money keeps pouring in, all this outrage is going to simply be ignored because there is no meaningful negative consequence for them ignoring it. There might be some bad press in the community for a little while, but it will be quickly forgotten.

Hey there folks! I mentioned this in another thread, but wanted to make sure I caught y'all as well, given this threads specific focus on the changes to AFK crows.

Arguably the most useful intel we can get right now is footage of this happening, as that helps us understand the exact circumstances that led up to this. If any of you have video footage of situations where you received an AFK crow over the course of regular gameplay, we'd love it if you could share it with us. I'd make sure it's shared with the relevant folks!

Specifically, it would be immensely valuable to have footage of instances where this is happening, including the 2-4 minutes leading up to the AFK crow appearing. That way, we can get a clear idea of exactly what gameplay led to this situation.

Where can we find instructions for how to share footage with the dev team?

  • @littlehoot said:

Current list of situations in which myself or my teammates got crows today during less than a dozen matches:

    • While running from the killer.
    • While running generally
    • Moments after getting into a locker, turning what would have been a safe evade of the killer into a death.
    • While doing generators
    • While looking for totems
    • While cleansing totems
    • While unhooking fellow survivors
    • While healing other survivors
    • While opening the exit gate
    • While slugged on the ground, attempting to crawl away from the killer in order to use Unbreakable—which is impossible now because of the near instant crows snitching.

We all know how much of a disaster this new system is, but something that I think also needs to be pointed out for feedback to BHVR is a broader problem of these kinds of things getting into the live game to begin with. This either wasn’t tested at all, which is alarming, or it was tested and everyone said “yep, this is good!”, which is also alarming, or it was tested and they noted the significant problems but decided to release it anyway and just hoped everyone would be ok with it, which is especially alarming. All scenarios are very bad.

We’ve seen so many similar situations in the past where bad changes are very apparent to players but somehow they still made it through the QA process. There is clearly something fundamentally flawed with how BHVR is evaluating changes and how they are using player feedback in the change process. Unfortunately, I have no confidence this is going to improve anytime soon because the same thing keeps happening over and over again, yet people are not leaving the game.

This is probably one of the worst changes ever implemented and yet the game still hit an all time high player count, so I guess that’s all that matters from a business perspective.

  • The bonus is nice, but at least for me it’s not enough incentive to play survivor right now. For one thing, it’s literally Springtrap ever single match (not exaggerating - I have not seen a different killer yet), and two, the insanely broken new AFK and DC penalty systems are punishing normal gameplay for survivors. Playing killer isn’t even an option due to the queue times. I’ll be on vacation soon and I am not all sad that I won’t be playing for a while.

  • @Cramps said:

If only you guys had time to test it with perks / playstyles that might cause people to be sacrificed early, before it made it to the live game.

That’s the most frustrating thing about this and so many other inexplicable changes that get implemented. These are things that are obviously broken to anyone who plays this game for 5 minutes. Really makes you wonder if/how these changes are being tested before being released live.

  • The only real AFK problem scenarios that I ever encounter while playing killer is when there are two survivors left and they both hide for as long as they can. A very simple solution to this would be to reveal auras or even just a noise/location notification when the survivors don’t touch a gen for a certain amount of time. That was all that was needed IMO, but the devs went WAY beyond that and are punishing normal play now.

  • @ad19970 said:

Nevermind, thought this was about the go next penalties. Regarding the afk system though, it seems like survivors gain afk points way too quickly. And certain actions that should count as not being afk don't count currently.

yeah, 10 seconds of not interacting is considered AFK. Completely insane.

  • @SpringTrapHatchetOP said:

The stupid moron idiots at BHVR released another P2W killer. Should be max 3 seconds of undetectable and the global teleport should have a noise just like demogorgons does.

As mentioned in the title. I originally was a Killer main since I joined 2016-2017 mostly, but periodically play Survivor role. This is a long time coming kinda rant post so bare with me. Eventually more a 50/50 split and boy oh boy, *inserts Mickey Mouse voice, SoloQ is **** on earth! From the coast of teammates t-bagging you while on the ground instead of healing you, to the shores of Urban Evasion users, the mountain tops of teammates sandbagging each other, to canyons of DCs being far as the eyes can see and so much more! I've finally seen the ways of SWFs because this is insufferable! If you got this far then congratulations for sticking with me. This post purpose is to be satirical while to laugh and relieve frustrations. If you have a SoloQ story/stories to share please be respectful and leave a reply down below. Because, I'm currently on another 15+L streak (just being able to Survive) in SoloQ and seem to be losing my mind!🤪

I play solo queue almost exclusively and while there can definitely be some frustrating cold streaks with bad teammates, it’s very helpful to look at your personal stats and view things objectively. You’re probably escaping a lot more frequently than it feels like you are.

  • Don’t forget that you also get DC penalties for being tunneled now.

  • Yep, it’s new killer release day alright

  • Not really surprised. Survivor escape rates in the low to mid 40’s and kill rates in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s depending on the killer. I am a casual player and definitely feel like being around the average escape/kill rates is about right for me.

The key learning for me is that those who love to come here to claim that the game is massively killer sided or survivor sided probably just need to get better at the game. I have a busy full time job and busy family life with wife and kids, so I don’t have a lot of free time to play. I’m not a naturally gifted video game player. If a very casual player like me can perform around the averages, then anyone should be able to.

  • Wow who could have predicted that this system would be massively flawed? 🙄

  • Well, it wouldn’t be a new chapter without some sort of gamebreaking bug, would it?

This just reinforces why I usually take a break when new chapters come out. It’s usually a buggy mess combined with unbearable queue times if you want to play killer or seeing the same killer for 30 matches in a row if you want to play survivor.

  • @Elan said:

Killer isn't meant to be entertainment for survivors. And there is limitation of how fun he can be to go against while strong at the same time.

There are killers that are both strong and fun to go against. Billy, Wesker, Blight, Dracula, Huntress, Spirit, Oni are the ones that I enjoy playing against and are usually in the B tier or higher in most tier lists. Even Nurse is fun to play against if she’s not controlled by a god-like player who never misses blinks.

  • At first I dismissed this post as just another salty survivor rant, but after looking at the list of killers released since Wesker, I think I kind of agree with this. Skull Merchant, Singularity, Chucky, Vecna, Ghoul - all of them definitely near the top of most unfun to go against. Unknown and Dracula are probably the only ones I don’t mind going against.

  • @jedimaster505 said:

Killers never have to tunnel to win unless they have an inflated MMR due to relying on tunneling instead of learning macro strategy and chase skill. Tunneling is just much easier to do for a beginner killer but will be more heavily punished as MMR increases.

You say this so often, yet I don’t think you’ve ever shown us all how easy it is to do with your own gameplay. Why don’t you help us all learn how to win without ever tunneling? That would be far more helpful than just telling killers that they are bad if they ever tunnel regardless of the situation.

  • @DrFrozen said:

I can definitely say that tunnelling is problematic for survivors that are always crying about it and how unfun it is for them making the game way more miserable.

There's another end of the stick and that's killer's POV. Many weak killers just HAVE TO tunnel in order to win the game. I've collected some ideas why that is the case:
    1. Unfair maps - many just have very strong loops that even weak survivors can hold a killer for a while.
    2. Weak basekit/add-ons - some killers such as Trapper or Trickster have weak basekit and playing them just feels terrible. Usually they are very slow and cannot build effective pressure.
    3. Fast gen progress/nerfed slowdown perks
    4. Very strong survivor perks - Shoulder the burden, finesse etc.

Now imagine that devs had to implement limited amount of gen kicks because of Skull Merchant ( they could just rework her ).

And there is the case, if survior can "tunnel" generator with the most progress by just going back and repairing it, why killers are being punished for tunneling survivors with the most "progress" ?

The truth is that there are more and more perks and mechanics that prevent tunneling but it will not solve the problem. Instead of nerfing this strategy, killers should feel that hooking different survivors is worth it and for now it just isn't.

For me, the source of the problem aren't killers themselves but poor game balance.

Gotta love the anonymous downvoting system. So much easier to just lob a bomb from a secret hiding place than to engage with a well-thought-out counterargument.

once had a nemesis try to tunnel me so often in solo queue my teammates tried body block him from getting to me only for him to smack them and run straight towards (They were in a full on chase btw) me again idk though respect the grind though

because it’s true statistically. And BHVR doesn’t play their own game and asking AI about it proves that

It is super depressing that somebody actually believes this

  • Fully agree that the main problem is matchmaking doesn’t prioritize accuracy nearly enough. BHVR puts full priority on minimizing queue times, which as OP correctly points out, means that MMR scores become meaningless after a minute or two. You just randomly get thrown in with whoever, which is still IMO 90% of the reason why solo queue sucks so much sometimes. I will literally get matched with a 4,000 teammate, escape, then next match be paired with teammates who have less than 100 hours. This should never happen, but I’ve lost all hope that this is ever going to get fixed. All I can do is leave the lobby and try again.

  • Eh, not really. I’m glad that there are so many people who are excited for the chapter - I just never had any interest in FNAF (I’m far too old to have that as part of my childhood experience). I’m really not looking forward to facing the same killer every single match for a couple of weeks, and if I want to play killer to avoid facing the same killer every match, killer queues are going to be ridiculously long. I’ll probably just play a lot less than usual or not at all for the next couple of weeks until the novelty starts to wear off a bit.

  • Every company on earth that is trying to sell you something uses FOMO to some extent. A more effective solution would be for people to take individual responsibility (I know, not a very popular opinion these days) and remove themselves from the temptation rather than demanding that every company on earth stop using a very common marketing tactic.

  • @SkinnyWoman said:

Title. I am legitimately curious as to whether the developers have played the game since… maybe launch. The game is almost unplayable with the amount of bugs; insta loss and anachronistic maps that haven't kept up with the shifting meta of the game; horrendous issues with tunneling and slugging which refuse to be addressed 9 years in, and instead they choose to focus on punishing people for going next - which happens in maybe 1 in 30 matches; completely unusable palettes and tiles literally designed to ensure that you take a down; bugs that mean the match effectively ends for the killer when they can't put a survivor down; constant issues with desync and the servers; vaulting lockers that are 5 miles away from windows. I could continue listing issues for the next 3 hours, most of which are issues that have been in the game for years.

It's regrettable that every single other game bEHAVIOUR releases fails to have any commercial impact, but maybe invest in the actual health of the only game that is keeping your 'studio' afloat instead of banking on gimmicks. I would expect it from a studio with 20 rookie employees, but they have over 1000 employees currently employed. How does a game based on killing players have animations for moris that still look like they were animated in the 90s? How is there STILL no running animation for characters in heels, so they are relegated to wearing the ugliest shoes known to man? It is unacceptable to have a game in this state so far removed from launch. Focusing on securing the next 'big' license (and I use that term loosely) to draw in unsuspecting players only to have them leave after a week because of the state of the game on all fronts is not a viable business plan.

An awful lot of people are still playing this “unplayable” game. If you are having such a miserable time, why are you still playing the game?

BHVR can only do so much to try to make everyone happy. You sound like an especially tough customer and impossible to please. If BHVR had to spend resources on making every single person like you happy, the game would not exist. The game has its flaws, but obviously BHVR are doing a lot of things very well too or else they would not have so many people playing the game for such a long time.

  • There’s a good reason that Lights Out didn’t last long and we’ve heard nothing about it since then - most people didn’t like it. Unfortunately I think you’re in the minority of people who want to see it come back.

A killer main? You sound like a survivor main who had a bad match. The biggest problem with DBD is mains. When I played a lot of killer survivors tilted me and I got salty. When I played to much survivor killers made me mad. Now I go 50/50 and all you mains look Hella crazy. Try both sides..it will chill you out to see both perspectives. Now I just have fun 🙂

100% this. Nearly all the toxicity in the community is coming from people who only play one side complaining that the other side is too strong and needs nerfs. The opinions that I respect the most on this forum are those coming from people who views changes to the game from the perspective of both the survivor role and the killer role.

    • who says i dont use nurse in my killer games?🤣 in any tier list it is placed (rightly) in "S" tier.... so are we all crazy? there must be a reason (maybe). Using a killer (or finding one against me), does not prevent me from evaluating some wrong/broken mechanics

Just a guess based on the fact that not too many proven very good nurse players come the these forums demanding nerfs for her.

  • @ImWinston said:

    • I give some context to my discussion. I've been playing since 2020 and I'm devotion 27 (I think 5k hours of play). It's really time to think about doing something about this killer who ignores ALL the rules of this game.
    • Pattet? Windows? DS? Stuns? Long distance? Sprint burst? DH? Distance between first and second floor? It doesn't matter, she'll still manage to get around the rules and get right to you. She's even good at proxy camping/tunneling (even though she doesn't need it at all)
    • And now I'm out of the "admiration" phase that many are in... it's true that she's a difficult killer to master, but once you understand her mechanics, with the right perks and addon, the game is over for survivors. it all comes down to "will she get her blink wrong this time?" At this point why nerf Kaneki and leave her as she is?
    • why can you disarm the Trapper's traps, but she has no mechanics to somehow limit her power? before you could at least burn her with the flashlight (which is difficult anyway), now even that doesn't exist anymore
    • A strong and challenging killer (both for mastering and from the survivor's point of view) is all well and good... but she's really something beyond those concepts

Try playing Nurse yourself and then come back and tell us if she still needs to be nerfed

  • @donewithdis said:

Ok really DBD you really are just trying to tank the game aren't you. You punish survivors because they get tunneled, face camped, and just made to play worthless terrible matches because killers have no true skill and have to do the listed above things then say "it's a tactic" then complain if survivors help each other. I'm a killer main who can get a 4k with most of the killers especially the newer ones and I'm no where near professional level.

Oh hey look yet another brand new account from an apparently a comp pro killer player who 4Ks every match and crying for killer nerfs 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡

  • So what is the point here? If the kill rate is artificially high due to going next, that means that the kill rate in “real” matches where survivors actually try is lower than the 60% reported average. So to keep the target 60% kill rate, killers would need to be buffed and/or survivors nerfed. That would seem to go against the preferred narrative for a lot of folks here…

" why do people keep consuming new content in a live service game???? the audacity!!!!"

I think those players need to play Oblivion or something and not multiplayer

I don’t mind new content - I’m just going to be sick of facing the same killer every match. Happens nearly every time a new killer is released for the first couple of weeks. The other option would be for me to just play killer, but everyone knows the killer queue times will be super long. It’s a lose-lose unless you really enjoy facing the same killer every match.

  • You can’t force people to enjoy playing against a killer that is super unfun to play against.

  • @I_CAME said:

Yeah, and when you play survivor, nothing but Springtrap games for the first couple of weeks. Probably a good time to just take a break from the game altogether.

  • There’s a very simple explanation for why BHVR isn't prioritizing these things - they don’t have to. People are not leaving the game because of the cheating issues; in fact, the player count has been increasing recently. Why would they spend resources on something that isn’t affecting player count and thus bottom line?

BHVR can change the number of people they have working on these different teams anytime they want. It’s not like that have a fixed number of employees that can never be changed. This is a terrible excuse for why certain things can be reprioritized.

  • @Cramps said:

While playing survivor over the past two/three days I've noticed (and I'm not exaggerating, this isn't hyperbole), the vast majority of people I'm being matched with and the killers I'm playing against have less than 100 hours playtime, as in, almost all of them, 9 out of 10 matches this is happening. I haven't suddenly lost a bunch of games so that my MMR should have decreased so drastically, I don't understand it at all.

I have 3,000+ hours playtime and it's really sucking the enjoyment out of the game for me to be matched with people who are still crouch walking around the map and terrified at the sound of the killer's terror radius, it's resulted in WAY more losses than usual as new players just do nothing and/or hide all match (not knocking them, we were all new at one point) and it's seriously demotivating me from playing the game at all, it's miserable.

To add to this, I'm on EU servers (London/Ireland specifically) and I'm constantly being placed into lobbies full of people with 200+ ping from America and who knows where else, 11 out of my past 13 matches have been exactly the same, brand new players on both sides with ridiculously high ping on EU servers. Why are Americans being placed on EU servers? This is a bad experience for the entire lobby.

Has something changed in regards to matchmaking that I might have missed??

The matchmaking has always been this bad. I have about 2,400 hours in the game, escape probably around the average rate for solo queue survivor, yet I am constantly getting matched with brand new players. I know it’s not due to lobby backfills. The matchmaking system is simply non-functional and it has been as long as I can remember. The only thing you can do is find another lobby.

    unfair advantage of comms

Killer mains having no friends with whom to play the game doesn't mean survivor players should be just as lonely and sexless.

is this comment meant to be some kind of flex? I have no problem with people playing with friends on comms. I use comms when I play with friends too. I’m simply noting that it’s an unfair advantage compared to not having comms.

  • Let us imagine how the OP would respond to a post like this:

”If you're a really good survivor main, you don't need BHVR to hold your hand to help you escape. Your skill as survivor will make you an intimidating presence all by itself. If the killers aren't intimidated by you, then you're just not good at survivor role.”

See, I can make troll bait post too.

  • @jedimaster505 said:

I keep seeing the same argument from killer mains on here… "survivors are losing because the average survivor sucks".

Now I explain why this is blatantly false.

People who choose to play killer aren't magically better at the game than your average survivor. There are just as many mediocre killers as there are mediocre survivors, after controlling for the 1:4 ratio, obviously. Most players are average because they aren't professionals and shouldn't be expected to be professionals to have a rewarding gameplay experience. So if the escape rate is less than 50%, which it is by quite a large margin, this indicates that the game design itself favors killers, which it obviously does.

To turn around and then say the escape rate is low because most survivors are bad, completely ignores that most killers are just as bad, on average. But the OP game mechanics killers have at their disposal makes it far easier for mediocre killers to win against mediocre survivors. In other words, an intermediate survivor loses against an intermediate killer, most of the time. You need an expert survivor to consistently beat an intermediate killer in DBD. An expert killer will beat expert survivors most of the time, too. It is only a minority of elite survivors that can actually prosper against expert killers, and killers don't even face these teams very often because elite players are a tiny percentile of the player base. The balance differential is clearly evident in the absurdly long kill streaks that some killer mains have achieved, which is unheard of on survivor side, and unheard of in other popular PvP games that are sensibly balanced. The margin only gets smaller as you approach the very top of MMR, and even then, 4 man SWFs still escape less than killers.

So the complaints from survivors about the low cheese skill tactics used by killers, like tunneling, slugging, camping, etc, are perfectly valid. A game that doesn't reward skill expression for one side is poorly designed. In fact, neither side is rewarded for skill expression when the game is imbalanced, because even the killers are forced to win more by design, which renders their input as meaningless as it is for the losing side. For every 4K you get as killer, you know it could well have been a 2K or a 0K if BHVR hadn't given you an advantage from the outset. This removes the satisfaction of playing both killer and survivor.

The fundamental principle of game theory is that you have a balance of challenge and reward, which produces a flow state, and that is called "fun". But if survivors aren't rewarded for skillful input, because low skill cheese tactics are so effective, then the game ceases to be fun, and they rage quit (i.e. go next). This is not a skill issue on the players part, it is a critical game design issue whereby a large percentage of the player base doesn't even consider a match worth playing until the end, because the mechanics are inherently unfun. In fact I have never seen such a high percentage of quitters in any other popular PvP game, compared to DBD.

Likewise, if the killer is just handed one 3-4K after another on a silver platter, their input becomes meaningless, and the game becomes remarkably boring. At that point the only incentive for killers to continue playing is for the power trip fantasy, which is why so many killers hate that survivors are able to abandon. Many of them gain satisfaction that they are ruining the survivors gameplay experience, instead of being satisfied for playing killer role skillfully.

To make this concept clear, imagine a game where the outcome was determined at the very beginning. That is, the game told you at the beginning of the match, which survivors will escape and which ones will die. Obviously that would be a terrible game that few people would enjoy. Now obviously, this is an exaggeration. Dead by Daylight doesn't take it to that extreme. But it does do this to an extent, because the odds of survival are forcibly reduced through game design, instead of leaving it up to the players themselves, both killers and survivors, to determine the outcome.

If you're a really good killer main, you don't need BHVR to hold your hand to help you kill survivors. Your skill as killer will make you an intimidating presence all by itself. If the survivors aren't intimidated by you, then you're just not good at killer role. And if survivors don't consider the game worth playing, then the devs need to address their game design instead of blaming the survivors for "not working together".

Killers aren’t handed 3-4K every game. The escape rate is 40%, right where the devs want it to be, except for 4-man SWF which has a higher escape rate because of their unfair advantage of comms.

What is the point of your post other than your usual “us vs them” trolling?

if the killer stays near the hook for over 2 seconds a nuke drops and destroys the entire map giving survivors a win.

I know you’re joking, but unfortunately some players (those who play survivor only) would probably be ok with this. People so often forget that there are humans playing on both sides that equally desire a competitive and fun experience.

  • what would you propose? I know you and I often disagree, but I’m honestly curious to know how you would propose solving the problem without making the game significantly more difficult for killer players.

No. Certain killers deserve to play against bots. The killer in your profile photo included, so I can see why you’re against the idea. 🤭

players like you are the reason the DC penalty needs to exist
