You are very much correct. I just started playing as well. They advertise their game as " Play with friends or play by yourself" but it seems they are now forcing the teamwork on soloq (which I always play). Soloq is solo for a reason. It seems with each update they are gearing it more as you have to have someone you know to play this with, but how if you no one you knows plays this? This isn't how the game started and maybe people gained friends playing but those coming in don't have that advantage. It is as if they are shying away from console and making this Steam game.

I don't usually play SoloQ (I'm more often either in a duo or playing killer), but yeah, starting out is very, very rough. I can't imagine starting DbD on my own ! For me it was a couple of friends who'd asked me for months to play with them.

The devs did implement the HUD icons to make coordination a little bit easier for solo players, which are working great ! So they're trying things out to make the solo experience better. It's just slow going.

It's easy to feel helpless at first playing survivor, and I can't say for sure that it will get better soon because I didn't learn alone, but as you grow more skilled and more confident, wins will feel less and less out of reach. Also, playing killer really helps ! I picked up killer more easily than survivor, it's a lot of fun when you're taking it casually, and it can teach you a lot about how to evade the killer as survivor or even how to loop certain tiles.

There are also a lot of youtube resources by various content creators that can help you develop a game sense.

I wish you the best of luck in your games and with the people you'll meet through them ! I've been lucky to meet wonderful people in games when I started out, and made quite a few friends, so I'm rarely without a partner when I feel like playing.

  • I feel like it should stay just for its status as a meme perk. It's just funny that it exists.

Plus it's a fun challenge for people who want to play a harder game.

I don't envy future David adepts though !

  • I have a similar "Not in the open... !" screenshot but with my character sandwiched between a Ghostface and a Meg in the basement. =D

  • I support your choice of hill.

Depipping should only be for DCs. Too much is out of your hands when it comes to pips and depips.

  • It's not activated at the moment, since the new Gas Heaven is boosted odds currently. It will probably be activated in the coming weeks !

  • We once all stopped playing, killer included, to stare collectively at an afk surv who'd gone to answer the door during the game. They came back very confused !

  • I mean...

If people aren't happy with the direction the game is taking, aren't they allowed to express their opinion ?

I like DbD, it's alright, but I genuinely would not recommend it to my friends who don't play it yet. It takes way too long to get decent at it, it's discouraging going into it and it's a money sink.

If I'd left my review around this time and not a few months ago in a calm period, I would have been accused of participating in reviewbombing.

If multiple people are not happy because of a same thing, they're bound to express it roughly in the same timeframe. I don't see what's childish about that ?

  • This is adorable !!

I love this kind of interactions. =D

I'll have to add a clip later of a recent game.

  • Sounds pretty normal, and I'm not even a SoloQ player. I usually duo and my escape rate is lower than I'd like to admit, probably sitting at around 20 to 25%. I'm not very good at survivor, but I'm not helpless either. I have around 250h on survivor.

The thing with the "50/50" is that it's team vs individual. A killer is supposed to win and lose roughly half the time, or to make it very flat, roughly 2 kills every game with the occasional 3k.

But since you're 1 among 4 on the other side, you personally aren't supposed to win 50% of the time. In this flat vision it's more "2 survivors, sometimes 1" are supposed to escape.

So it's entirely possible through lack of luck, misplays, mistakes from your team to have an unexpectedly low escape rate while still having the game be "balanced" because survivors players aren't truly expected to escape half the time.

    Is it discouraging ? Yes

Is it fair ? Debatable, probably, I'm not a dev

Will it get better in this weird meta where 2 sides have overpowered strats the other can't do much about ? I wish I knew !

  • In my experience, it's a dreadful map for both roles.

Except if you were playing Hag before 6.7. Amazing Hag map ! =D

Might still be, but I'm taking a break from her 'cause I'm not super happy with her changes.

  • Must stay horror-themed in some capacity, and not like "I mean, this character could beat you up so technically it's horror".

Seeing Knight on Haddonfield is uncanny as hell to me. Skull Merchant is uninteresting.

I'd also appreciate if we could stay away from anime. I'm not a big fan, and I think they don't really fit DbD.

  • I don't think tunneling is in itself bad manners, but I do think you shouldn't be able to yeet a player out of the game so fast. I think that some more anti-tunneling should be basekit.

I'd like to see 3s DS basekit and the perk being a bigger stun like 5 or 6 second. That would put a real damper on tunneling. Killers could still down the survivor if the occasion calls for it (survivors using it "agressively", whathever this may mean), it's still pressure on the team, but to slow down how fast you can hook the same survivor again.

I don't think tunneling is necessary to win most games, nor that it should be.

The players who mostly tunnel would need some time adapting, their mmr would need to lower to their overall skill level in response, and this could be accompanied by removing/reworking BNP, nerfing toolboxes and putting a cap on gen speed to prevent "tunneling gens" on the survivor side.

  • The same goes for people complaining about the gen regress perks, innit ?

I don't think CoH and DH boosting the escape rate was really the issue, since after 6.1 the killrates were exactly as intended by the devs, around 60% not counting games with DCs, even with these perks.

It's just shaking up the meta in a pretty poorly thought out way (nerfing gen regress but not gen speed) by nerfing what's popular and caving about what's being complained about.

  • When you look at the complete survivor objective Prove Thyself has a net value of 0%. It just compensates the lack of efficiency of grouping up, nevermind the fact that survivors should spread out to put more pressure on the killer.

It's only good at providing "saved" progression as you can't regress a completed gen, and at breaking 3gens.

It's a very balanced perk in my opinion.

  • I think we'll get a quick Thana-like rushed toolbox nerf and nuking PT despite it being balance. They might walk back on their Overzealous buff and make it not worth bringing.

I don't think they'll give killers basekit perks this time. Just the nerf hammer on the survivor side, as right now it would be uncalled for to nerf the remaining gen regression perks.

  • Bald Dwights are genuinely terrifying.

  • There's nothing fundamentally toxic about camping and tunneling (unless they're like, hitting you on hook and harassing you in chat afterwards), but it does suck really really hard to go against. It feels miserable and unfortunately there's not much that can be done to make it more worthwhile or less frustrating on the receiving end.

I'm not very good at the game, and these past few weeks I've gone against a lot of very nice killers. I'll send them your way in spirit !

Hope you have better games next. =)

Oh I get it completely on how sometimes you don’t get what you want or came for.

The Haddie part you mention, I would sometimes rarely see them too. I probably should play her more. I’m more of Nea and Feng survivor player. But I’m also willing to change up things from time to time sometimes.

I get it, I would like to see more Ghostface’s and Wesker’s cause they’re my favorite. But hopefully maybe you will run into her more. Hope you get better games here soon. :)

Oh, Nea's I run into are often very cool ! I was more of a Kate main when I started playing, but Haddie grew on me. She's also getting a really cool cosmetic soon so I'm <3

Ghostface's mori is amazing ! I play as him sometimes and I'll indulge in some moris to get pictures. Photobombs from other survivors are the best !

Wesker I don't really like to face (don't really like the character or voice lines), but it does feel great to punch him =P

Have good games next as well !

  • I'll say, being able to spend bloodpoints so easily makes me more motivated to play !

  • To face -

Deathslinger for his TR, makes me sad and unmotivated and apparently unable to focus on dodging

Oni because at low mmr it feels like he always has his power and also has the hitbox of a freaking plane

Wesker because of a mix of overrated license + TR I've heard too much and that is everywhere + voice lines

Plague because she has no counterplay at low mmr (I don't consider having half your health all game to be a counterplay) + vomit sounds make me feel nauseous

Clown, tonic warps the screen in a very unpleasant way and even though I know it's not OP, it still feels like it's a guaranteed hit when you're poisoned

    To play -

Haven't played them all, but Nurse makes me motion sick. So Nurse.

All the others I've tried are really fun to use !

  • I feel like they're a bit underrated, because they do have cool effects. It just hurts finding a broken key in a chest, haha.

I'm very sparingly using them because they're an item I feel I could get more value from when I'll be better at chasing.

  • There won't be, because bhvr slapped anti camping on a licensed perk, nerfed it before release and called it a day.

  • The first time I got to Iri 2 on survivor, I did it in a week.

The next 2 I spent trying to get to Iri 1. It felt like for every good game were I got a pip, there were 3 horrible games where something outside of my control happened like getting tunneled, facecamped or having teammates disconnecting left and right.

  • I have the opposite experience specifically against Hag, my favorite killer. They'll 2-hook everyone, mori everyone, down me, forget they've hooked me twice, and hook me a 3rd time.

I even play as Haddie. How often do you hook a Haddie ??

Mostly joking, but I'd love if the next pink mori Hag I'm matched with could remember to mori me <3

  • Different mmr brackets can have different killer behaviour, would be my best guess !

I've played a dozen games since the update and haven't been camped yet (tunneled twice). In fact, I've seen a lot of very chill, nice killers who send love in postgame chat.

That being said, I'm pretty low mmr I would guess, and I'm often matched with chill casual killers.

  • I've always found killer to be easier to pick up than survivor, but I do remember my first bully squad within my first few weeks of playing, at a time where there were too few survivors and queue times were long so I didn't want to dodge.

Matchmaking tried to put me up against them literally the next game, and that was a good time to stop playing for the night.

  • I have the same thought about Hag.

They wouldn't be released as is.

And probably would be stronger, since the last few chapters all showed that if within one week people complain that they haven't mastered the killer yet, the killer gets buffs.

I don't think BHVR would introduce new killers who are hard to learn like Nurse or Hag.

  • I've only played a handful of games, and they have been mostly pleasant, but only a day and a few games is not enough to decidedly say how good or bad the update is.

I LOVE the bloodweb change !

Jury's still out on how everyone's going to play from now on, but hanging out in low mmr, I feel like I'll most likely avoid the brunt of it.

  • I mean... If you don't play much survivor or play it very seriously you probably wouldn't get it ?

But it is really fun loading into a game, having no threat, and just messing around with random people until everyone gets bored. It's the same reason sometimes when I and a rando are at a blocked gen we'll teabag the gen together until the entity frees it.

It's just dumb and funny being a few people who don't know each other and have no way of communicating and being left alone in a realm like unruly children.

The fact that it's rare adds to it too. If every game was like this it'd be boring, but the occasional, unexplicable pause in the Entity's slaughter ? It's occasion for memeing.

    in Why? Comment by HugTheHag
  • I love going against Nurse. I'm not very good at juking her, but I always have fun trying.

  • I'll admit I didn't think of that hahaha !

I mean, I stand by it, but maybe with an added "Pentimento clause" XD

  • Shattered Hope is weird in that it is too situational to be a perk worth bringing, but it's too strong to be base kit.

I think the perk itself should be buffed to make it worth bringing even if it turns out there is no or few boons in the game, like making it be able to break dull totems to see the aura of another totem placement (making it a killer version of Counterforce) + bloodpoint score event for breaking dull totems, in Deviousness as you are outsmarting survivors by depleting their resources.

That way, it hard counters boons because anytime you go by a dull totem you can remove it as a possible boon location.

  • If you were playing Myers, you don't have collision when you're stalking. It's to prevent cornering a survivor and farming stalk on them.

  • It's similar to with killers, everyone has their own etiquette they follow, but nothing clealy formalised among every survivors.

For the record, waiting at the gate is not always malicious. I do it very often to leave when I'm sure everyone on my team is alright and don't need me further. It's happened that I left early when someone was, unbeknownst to me, in a hopeless chase, and my help would have been precious to unhook them once they were caught. So I'll wait until I know everyone that's still alive is ok.

That being said, here's a few things I do before/during/after the game to make things fair and kind :

    • No green and rarer items, and no green and rarer addons.
    • No items if my teammates all have items / if my team already has 2 of the item I wanted to bring.
    • No gen progression perk unless I've faced a streak of tunnelers in prior games and really want to be serious, and then it's most likely just one.
    • No teabag / clicking / emoting at the killer.
    • If a teammate teabags killer, they're probably alright and don't need further help from me in the trial.
    • If the killer didn't manage to hook many people and the team is all out, I'll let them sacrifice me.
    • If teammates insult killer in chat, I'll tell them off.
    • If there's anything I can praise the killer for in endgame chat, like good mindgames or gen pressure or a ridiculous snowball after we were dumb, I'll do it. It generally sparks very cute convos and I like ending a match on a good note. I collect those chats and look back on them when I'm getting aggravated with some players.

I still feel like it's easier to set the mood of the game as killer, because there's only one of me then to speak for my side, and as survivor I can't control if my teammate is a Yun-Jin set on pissing the killer off and getting us trampled.

That being said, I feel like most people I am matched with, survivors and killers alike, are pretty cool people and few of them are bad mannered or sweaty.

The joys of low mmr ! =D

  • My teammate waiting in boon for me to come heal them : *nervous screeching*

My oblivious ass thinking I can see them with Aftercare and forgetting about the CoH nerf : Mh, they should really heal themselves instead of just standing around. *2 seconds later* WAIT-

  • I don't think gen progression perks need nerfs (save for Hyperfocus' interaction with toolboxes).

I think the toolboxes need nerfs.

And as others have said, probably map balance to help with chases.

Buffing killer's chase potential will inevitably make low mmr even more killer-sided, so it probably will require a certain amount of calculations to find the sweet spot that buffs medium skilled killers without making escaping impossible for low skill survivors.

  • I think they all have their niche. Not every killer needs to be able to face comp in my opinion. Some do well in some brackets and have no ambition of being consistently good in other mmrs.

They should absolutely get QoL and slight buff if they're really falling behind, but I really don't think all killers need to be equal in power and very strong to feel fun to use and thrive.

  • I'm sorry you're facing all that !

I don't see the appeal of bringing genrush when the regression perks have been nerfed, but there's unfortunately always gonna be people going "But it's efficient and fun = winning, duh"

Unless most killers start tunneling, I'll bully my friends into not taking gen perks either. =D

Apparently it's been fixed with the update yesterday !

At +50% heal speed, CoH is just a considerably worse version of Botany Knowledge, so no, that wouldn't work. A minor haste will not save enough time to make it worthwhile, either.

If +50% heal speed wasn't broken on PTB, then +100% heal speed now isn't broken either, since they both save the same amount of time.

    Feedback appreciated !

+50% on 24s saved 8s, and made the heal 16s long.

+100% on 16s saves 8s, but makes the heal 8s, which is a little crazy.

It's not entirely about how much it saves but also how efficient it makes the survivors.

Maybe a cut at +75% would be better ? Make the heal 10s ?

  • I get that CoH must be worth having 2 people run to a corner of the map, and that travel time should be compensated, but +100% on healing speed is way too much when altruistic heals are back to 16s.

Maybe make it back to +50% but, to make the way back to their objectives a little quicker, completing or receiving an altruistic heal in CoH could give 10 seconds of slight Haste (thinking like, 3-5%) ?

It would be unlikely to affect chases since people would not be able to heal quickly midchase, and still not allow to outspeed the killer should they come as the heal is completed.

It would just be a slight speed buff on the way back to gen, unhook, or whatever else survivors do when they're not in chase.

That'd just off the top of my head, not deeply thought out.

  • Why though ?

If anything, early game is when killers need a little bit of help. There's 3 survivors on gen (hopefully) when the rest of the game there will be only 1 or 2 at a time.

  • I haven't changed my survivor build through the patch as it was not affected.

I've pretty much always used We'll Make It, I pair it with Aftercare for some nice coordination with my solo and swf teammates. My other perks were Lightweight and Windows. I don't typically bring items if my teammates do.

I've played 5 games yesterday with 2 other friends, we were playing chill as usual and got one 0K, one 1K, two 3K and a 4K.

We weren't against the best killers, compared to our last sessions, so it was nice escaping a little bit more. It felt like we had a solid chance if we didn't mess up too much, which was appreciated.

Pretty much everyone I met (the solos and killers) was super chill and we had some very cute endgame chats.

I'm obviously biased since 2 of the 3 other survivor spots were my swf's builds, but I didn't see any Dh or CoH, no toolboxes (mostly medkits and one had a flashlight) and not much gen speed.

I didn't really pay attention to the killers' builds beyond Sloppy or Mangle addons coming up a few times.

  • Despite my plans to give it a few days before playing, I've had 5 games and most of them were with the sweetest players !

I was actually on the same team in one as a Trickster who killed me and my friend last month and it was very funny seeing him again on our team this time. Also had a very nice Deathslinger giving me door and being cute in chat, which was very appreciated considering he is the killer I dislike facing the most purely for his TR.

Might be the new patch effect where everyone is still finding their mark, but it was a great evening overall !

Also, I barely even noticed the self-heal change. 24s for medkit heals addonless is really good !

  • Literally the day after they announced the DH nerf there was a post like "It's great that they're nerfing DH, now how about SB and Lithe ? They're so unskilled and busted".

Some people on both sides will never be satisfied until the other has nothing.

I'm surprised no one has said him but I think doctor. He's not the strongest killer but he doesn't feel week or overpowered. He's fairly easy to pick up but he also has a surprisingly high skill ceiling. He has a lot of tools and techs he can use with his power to deny pallets and windows but he also has counterplay from the survivors so he can be beat. His add-ons are good but not overpowered and he has a nice selection to choose from. He can utilize a wide variety of perk builds and fun play styles.

My other answer I have is wraith. I know people either see him as week or overpowered depending on who you ask but he is fun, has good mobility, and a excellent set of add-ons to pull from. After this much needed fl change I think he'll be in a excellent place. Not many killers base powers got scrapped just because you went against a lobby of flashlights. I'm expecting a lot of flack for this opinion but it is just my opinion and you are free to disagree with it.

To finish up I would also say huntress. Strong killer, high skill ceiling, but counterplay is there too.

To me a balanced killer isn't about strength. It's about 2 things. Are they fun. Is their counterplay. That's why huntress is in their even though she is very strong. There is almost no better feeling then hitting a trick hatchet as killer. From the other side their is almost no better feeling than dodging that hatchet. I think a good balance is about the counterplay the most. If their is counterplay then whoever is better should truly win.

Oh my, I should have thought of him because I really love going against Doctor !

His addons are so freaking cool to verse !

  • Survivor has it really rough when you're starting out. You have a lot of things to learn, and everything that makes killers stronger (wether strats of buffs) are disproportionately harsher on newer players.

Same, you have to be quite dedicated and play regularly to get better. I have nearly 400h in the game, but I can't play very often because of job+studies+time-consuming hobbies, so I'm still pretty bad at it.

Tie your ass to your chair for a good while and you'll probably get better, and from there, have slightly better teammates.

    Good luck !

  • Might be because of how those I encounter play, but I feel like Pinhead is in a very nice place.

Games don't feel impossible to win as survivor, their kit is diverse enough that there are several interactions outside of basic chasing, they have passive slowdown, and they can be really strong.

Not related to the question but as a random shoutout, Pinheads are some of the fairest killers I see. Very rarely friendly but very rarely sweaty and pretty much never BM'ing.
