Starting out last year, even during the anniversary, was so discouraging. Especially starting out survivor. I started playing with 2 friends, one of which knew the game a little from playing a couple of years before, and they were pretty much the only reason I kept playing. One of them abandoned quickly.
When I got sick of dying on repeat I switched to killer for a nicer time, and only went back to survivor after meeting a couple of new friends in game with who I played customs and survivor (no comms).
The introduction of bots in custom was honestly a godsend. Now we can take turns playing killer and playing among ourselves with all perks available and it's been really fun !
-
Stay hidden in TR -> Ghostface & Wraith
Heal oriented build -> Plague
-
I never use them, nor the one to reject map offerings, so they could be removed and I wouldn't notice.
Outside of a few achievements I still need and might use an offering for, those could go too and I wouldn't be sad.
-
Pity, I quite enjoy playing them !

I had yesterday one match against Spirit. She played fair. She wasn't camping or tunneling. She didnt have a kill in the end and we we're all at the gate with her. The other survivor teabagged her and left and I stayed. For me was not important to escape. I had a funny match and good chases.
I gave her my medkit so say thank you for the match and she was happy. Then I ran to the hook to give her a kill. As she hooked me she run around circles to show me how happy she was.
But I also think she was happy because killer rarely sees something like that.
We should be kinder to each other.
I love giving kills when the killer had a bad game ! =)
My favorite moments in this game are not 4Es as survivor or 4Ks as killer but the times that people are just being kind or silly together.
I had a game earlier where through 3 BBQs I saw one of the survivors just crouching around in the same spot waiting for hatch, so I killed them and adopted one of the two remaining survivors as my buddy. We were on Father Campbell's Chapel, so we went to fetch gifts for Maurice and gave him a lot of pets together <3
Unfortunately they were on console so we couldn't chat afterwards, but they were adorable !

Learn blight, I tell you this from someone who spent a lot of time learning billy, even when you can curve your skill will not matter due to map design and the limitations of your power it will always be up to the survivor skill if you get the down or not.
The only real thing I learn from playing billy is I wasted my time and should have learned blight since my skill would actually matter there, do NOT commit the same mistake I did.
I might try Blight out, but I'm very much playing for fun and not to be the best I can at the game. I'm happy being average, and the average survivor is not very good ! =)
-
TRUE.
If it's really only for new players, then make it available as soon as that player has at least 1 prestiged character on their account.
I have 30 prestiged characters. I don't need the bloodweb training wheels when I pick up another !
-
Aftercare is the single best survivor perk in my opinion, and is very rarely played. It never leaves my builds.

Try to get a feeling for his power. How long does it take to fully charge a chainsaw? Can you feather (99%) the chainsaw without having to look at the bar? How high is the initial turn rate and how far can you actually curve? Where do you need to start a chainsaw in order to get to where you want to go?
Some things I've learned with him:
Don't try to curve on every single loop. There are loops that are shaped like squares or circles and you will never be able to hit a curve here.
Shadowborn is your best friend. It allows you to see more clearly what is right next to you and helps with getting spun and not getting disoriented.
Don't use his Engravings addons immediately. Try to get a feeling for his base kit first and then try to improve running Engravings.
Practice juggling the chainsaw and looping at the same time. It's one thing to know the timing of your feathering but it's another to actually be able to fully concentrate on mindgaming a survivor and spinning like crazy while not getting disoriented and not messing up the chainsaw at the same time.
Learn collisions. There is no way around it. In order to effectively use Billy's chainsaw in loops you need to know where you can curve and at what angle you can press into walls. Some (very few remaining) tiles have walls where you can really push yourself into them at an angle and not bump while others (mostly bushes) will make you bump even when you can't see them.
This last bit is very important. Billy can be incredibly frustrating and most Billy players find themselves fuming at hitboxes eventually. When you feel like that, the best thing you can do is take a break. Maybe play a different killer and come back when you really feel like playing him again. Eventually you'll get more used it and learn how to play around it.
Most important: Have fun. As long as you enjoy playing him you'll be motivated to play as him and get more experienced.
That's extremely helpful, thank you so much !

+1 on this. It's the gold standard guide for billy
@ op Tofus guide also still has good information despite it being a bit outdated
Gtvel is imo the best billy out there, and I'd recommend checking his stream too and you'll learn a lot and him/his community are pretty knowledgeable about stuff and generally helpful to people who wanna learn :)
Thank you both ! I'll definitely check those out !!

Playing against bots in custom will reassure you, I think.
They can and will mess up in pretty spectacular ways sometimes, like leaving a loop instead of vaulting out of reach, or losing time crouching behind a barrel because they think you don't know they're here.
Now that I think about it, the bot's teabagging habits are gonna be even funnier in game, because it will really be as though the DC'ed survivor's ghost is still haunting the bot !
-
I think it's more than fair now that the survivors can see its aura after some time.
Killer played on 3 perks all game just for that little surprise. They deserve it !

i like julie and yeah i love playing them just that it is hard after a certain mmr level...usually use enduring spirt fury nowhere to hide and jolt as my build with julies mixtape and legion pin/iri button
saving up shards for the blighted legion skin
Blighted Legion sure is an amazing skin ! I've my eye set on Never Stop Slashing, for my part. =D
I don't expect mmr to be a problem with me, as I don't expect or wish to reach higher skill brackets, but it must suck to find yourself more limited as you go.
I can't remember my exact build at the moment but for the addons I enjoy Pills & Mural way too much !
Good luck on your future matches =)
-
Always check on your killers when a teammate is a little #########. Chances are it's not the first or last time that day someone is being a dick to them for no reason.
-
Anytime an incentive is discussed, there are people running calcs on how efficient following the incentive would be rather than, say, tunneling or camping.
Everytime, these people arrive at the conclusion that permanent -1 player is much more interesting than any incentive that could feasably be implemented while keeping all levels of mmr into account.
If there was a carrot not to tunnel, anyone who wishes to play efficiently (and god knows how many "fun = winning and nothing else" we have in this community) would still tunnel.
Hence the stick.

awesome someone who loves haddie...and which legion member?
My favorite is Frank, but I often play as a lost mascot because it's silly and fits my playstyle. Unfortunately the best color in that set is Julie's. So I play as her a bit too !
Do you play them as well ? If so who's your favorite ? =)

Facts

I didn't watch for everyone, but I don't fully agree on Hag's. Her worst map is definitely Red Forest - Mother's Dwelling.
Lery doesn't have any grass, but it's not THAT big, 3gens can be costly there, and youcan always put unexpected traps at the corner of walls or do camera pulls into obstacles.
That being said, I'll admit I haven't played much of her since her nerf.
I think Mother's Dwelling is also up there for Legion's worst maps.
-
If it ever came to that (but it won't because I enjoy living and seeing the sun from time to time)...
Haddie and Hag/Legion ! <3
-
Despite my dislike of Midwich and RPD as survivor, the Autohaven Wreckers realm really takes the cake for me when it comes to map where you don't see anything.

You can still work to fix the three gen problem in the meantime, but still no game of DBD needs to last more than 20 minutes. F13 had the right idea with the 20 minute time limit.
Also providing a 20 minute time limit forces killers to try to kill rather than holding a three gen.
Pretty sure after the time limit is up survivors are all sacrificed like in endgame... So it would be all the easier to make 3gens work as a strat to kill.
I might be wrong, though.
-
Ghostface kind of deserved those buffs, considering his playstyle is very punishing in terms of gens, and the fact that survivors lose all their stalk if you hit them.
That makes it so that some times you almost stalk a healthy survivor all the way, get revealed, and now you can't hit them for 24s because your shroud is on cooldown, so either you waste that time following around a survivor that knows you can't touch them, or you have to leave and find someone else to pick on, which can also be a massive time loss.
-
Yeah first time I saw the chapter's trailer I was like "This looks like it could be out of SOMA" (I love that game dearly)
And next thing I see the character's surname is Soma hahahha
Neat detail !
-
I haven't been able to play as often as I'd like, but I can fit a few hours of playing every couple of weeks, and since the midchapter I don't think I've been tunneled once.
People have just been really chill on my end.
There must have been only a few games where killer tunneled someone, and it was after the 3rd gen had popped, so completely fair game.
-
People are obsessed with niche scenarios that require actual cooperation from the opponents just to prove something has the potential to maybe be OP and plz nerf.
It's tiring.
-
I'd take horrific mass of sentient flesh and metal over another dude with a mask and a knife.
And I'm saying this as a Legion main X)
I do look forward to more horror oriented future chapters. Knight and Skull Merchant are really uninteresting to me esthetics wise. I'd prefer beastly or body horror killers.
-
I think if there was a big, well-known license like Chucky or Stranger Things coming this year, it would have been for the anniversary.
I'm all for original characters, and this coming chapter looks amazing !
I'd be excited to have more niche licenses coming to the game too. Anything but a 3rd Resident Evil !
-
If 3-gens are the next thing to prevent, then hopefully, HOPEFULLY that means Hag will get some sort of buff. You can't add a counter that harms chases on the most counterable killer in the game and then remove their only efficient playstyle. You gotta give em something at some point.
Yes, I am coping hard.
-
Haddie is <3
-
I'll have to try out some of them !
My usual build : Windows, We'll Make It, Aftercare, and then whichever perk will make my tome challenge easier. =)
-
They do, and it's super confusing when you don't expect it.
I once threw a game as survivor just following around the zombies with screen recorder on, because I'd seen two separate times the zombies speeding to me from the other side of the map, while at other times they seemed slow, and I thought it might have been a really, really lame cheat.
(It was the addon that made them fast 60s after a gen is complete.)

One single upvote is not enough. So here's a little Notification DING to your bell too
Much appreciated X)
-
They're known for leaving unexpectedly.
-
Phenomenal perk, almost never leaves my builds.
-
Are that many people even using that functionality for it to make such a difference ?
Genuine question.
I don't need it and neither do I like it visually, playing with that big red heart at the center of my screen would take me out of immersion. I assume most people don't use it either.
-
There is no map I would not play out as killer.
Surprisingly, since I'm pretty average skill and matched with similarly average survivors, Garden is rarely an issue. No map are particularly awful when your opponents are not that great. Pretty much only some Coldwind Farm maps cause a consistent issue and that is my nonexistent object permancence vs corn blindness.
I don't refuse to play either as survivor, even on maps I dislike like Midwich, RPD or The Game (don't ask...). I wouldn't want to sabotage the game of the other survivors.
-
More of a goofy one than a proper fail, but until a fews months ago I didn't know what the Padded Jaws addon did to Trapper's traps.
So when in a game I got trapped, and him hitting me didn't down me but simply left me injured, I thought there was a glitch and just stayed put to let him down me. He was as confused by my reaction as I was at being still standing !
-
The funniest reason a killer raged quitted / insulted my lobby in chat was because two people had Balanced Landing. On Lery.
That's a rare occurence though. I don't play a lot these past couple of months, but most killers I encounter are actually pretty chill.
-
Most people I see are well behaved, perk of being very average at the game. It doesn't feel like most people take it seriously and neither do I. I don't tunnel or camp and so survivors rarely complain.
When I'm playing survivor, I generally just move on if killer camped or tunnel. I'd rather praise the fun killers and say nothing to the unfun ones, than say nothing to the former and insult the latter.
If anything, I'll tell my teammates off if they get unruly.

As a blight, you are safe. Its merchant+problem killer for that person - some hate bubba for camping, some trickster as he doesn't belong, plague/clown for specific fears/conditions, nurse (maybe here occasional blight instead of merchant) for meta slaves, nemesis/wesker for seeing them too often or legion for "mending simulator", knight for "AI-only/flipchart/nobrain" interactions, pinhead being annoying/soloQ stomper, twins for slugging too much or any random killer for random reason (like he destroyed me so much last game, or some less objective reasons like "slinger is braindead easy and unfair").
The point is, there's too much variety in "hated" killers for you to have serious problem as blight player. If you wanted to play merchant - then I would understand. But for anyone else? Not an issue.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3428784#Comment_3428784
You presume brutal unimosity. Even most picked killer does not get picked more then 15% of games by official stats. Why do you think everyone will be meta slave? From what I can tell by talking to quite a large number of people (sure statistically irrelevant for general usage, but already good sample), people hate different things and most hated killer can be weakest. Like even before SM got buffs after PTB, lots of people already hated her and would pick her over objectively stronger killers - see my response above, those are real reasons I remembered people complaining about - none of them are made up by me. Overall I think Merchant is the only killer, that would have really hard time finding match now (but that's devs fault that should have been fixed months ago).
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3428571#Comment_3428571
I don't know about you, but I don't like 3v1 and consider them unfun for both sides. Picking "wrong" killer greatly increases chance of this happening - especially if that killer gets good start.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3428798#Comment_3428798
Swamp? I doubt it. Again. There's enough variety in maps already, that coldwin, garden, eyrie, badham, the game, mac, RPD, midwitch, lerys will see the light of the day even if both sides could ban a map.
It would be different with banning say survivor item (there are only 6 types out of which 2 are really bad making it possible to ban 25% of usual/used options), but that's not the case for maps (or killers for that matter). Like even single perk would be manageable now even if the end result would be felt a lot more (because most people on both sides do use 1 of top 10 perks making bans effectively limiting 10% of choises), because there are so few trully good perks on both sides. But banning single killer (2 might be too much) will just lessen worst DC's.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3428950#Comment_3428950
Do you realize you yorself named so many different killers, that this would stop to be an issue? Because nobody can ban your whole provided list in a single game (meaning some people will make room for the other killer on "hated" list, because they hate something else more)
Your argument that I named several killers and therefore it would cancel itself out ignores how mmr brackets work. Not all killers are popular at the same mmr levels.
I have named 6 killers as probable ban picks. Nurse and Blight would be the pick of the highest mmrs, Artist and Wesker of above average mmr. The Knight and Skull Merchant would probably be picks of average and lower mmrs.
I don't know if you completely grasp what I mean by different mmr brackets. You certainly do seem to ignore the main points about how mmr works after all when it comes to redirecting players.
But even two or three killers being ban picks at any mmr bracket would make matchmaking difficult. Killers did complain of queue times when survivors were mildly disgruntled after 6.1. and some of them stopped playing. I don't know what could make you think giving the ability to ban certain killers, when there is 4 survivors in a lobby, would not affect queue times for the most picked killers.
That being said, I don't wish to argue further on the question. I have my opinion and you have yours, you probably won't change mine and I probably won't change yours. Let's leave it at that.
-
Ugh. Those are the worst.
When people say "survivors who stay at the gate" I feel like there's often a mix up between survivors intending to BM and survivors intending to be available to help their team one last time if needed. I personally always stay at the gate until I know what's left of my teammates are okay and don't need me anymore.
But the people who all stay at the gate just for taunting, when all are alive and ready to leave any moment, those I really can't stand. I'll leave as soon as I know anyone who's not an idiot can escape.

Much more maps are survivor sided than killer sided. And it would be fair to the survivors, its not like any killer other than Skull Merchant will be heavily affected since a lot of people have different preferences. I'm pretty sure id be the only one banning Nemesis
How many maps are what sided is irrelevant. If only one side can ban maps, it is unfair. Map bans would be a terrible bandaid fix to map balance, and I think we're past wanting terrible bandaid fixes.
And thinking killer bans might be fine because you personally would ban Nemesis, an unpopular choice to ban (I personally enjoy going against him quite a bit), is skirting the problem. It would greatly affect Skull Merchant players, as you said, but maybe also Wesker players (a quick browsing through the forums is enough to see many people are sick of facing him all the time), Nurse players no doubt, and Blight players. Possibly Knights and Artists. If Hag had been more popular, she'd be a famous ban pick as well.
And it wouldn't be fair to "survivors" as a whole : those killers would not spend forever in queue. Matchmaking would gradually broaden its limits like it does currently, and instead of a good team of survivors going against that sweaty Blight, it will be a group of casuals who definitely don't have the skill to compete. Would it be fair to them ? Or to the Blight if after half an eternity in queue, the first group they can reach is a sweaty 4-man above his skill level ?
Again, it would serve as a bandaid fix to killer power balance (wether it needs fixing is another thing entirely).
So this is why I'm wary of those offered changes. I don't think it comes from a bad place, we all have things we wish we could change about the game, but I don't think they would be viable, that's all.
-
Map bans would probably not affect the playerbase too much, though if killers do get a say in which maps can't be played, then survivors should also.
Killer bans would not work, because at different mmrs different killers are popular, and a popular killer being banned would make queue times skyrocket for the killer players who chose this one, or force them to face survivors either much lower or higher in mmr, which would be fair for no one involved and ripple all over matchmaking.
-
Already doing that , and in both roles ! =)
I do find it's easier to set the mood of the game as killer, because there's a lot of silly things you can do to show that you're going in chill and are not going to tunnel or be toxic, and most times my survivors respond in kind.
As survivor, you can just.. not be toxic, and often that's not enough. Especially since one (1) person being toxic on your team, that you might not have chosen to play with, will inevitably bundle you into a "toxic SWF" mental image and mean you'll get BMed even if you didn't do anything.
I personally don't respond in kind with toxicity if I see a killer or a survivor being stinky stinkers, because I don't want to feed the cycle.
If we want players in general to be more positive and see less BM in game, regardless of the role, the change can't be expected to come from only one side. People have to be more positive and less salty and get rid of that chip on their shoulder.
-
I think there's no problem with it.
OP addons are not plentiful, and even if the player has a lot of them from playing a lot, the odds of us being matched together regularly are quite low.
Do I enjoy going against these builds ? No. Are they probably really fun to play ? Yes !
If a killer wants to boost their mmr by playing exclusively OP builds, then by all means, they're free to enjoy that.
However, it's their problem if afterwards when they're out of addons, games get difficult. Much like tunneling to get a high winrate means they'll plateau at a higher mmr than what they're normally comfortable with, if they can't win a game once they're out of Iri addons, and after their mmr was balanced around their OP builds, I don't want to hear about how SWF is OP or how survivor perks should be nerfed.
It was their choice getting out of their comfort zone.

If bhvr doesn't want players to fall back on gen regresstion perks (not go meta) then the answer is a resounding YES! because of course: no 5 gens on = win, what do you do? right logically full gen regresstion, I also have to say Pain res is a bad compare because you chose it xD it is still used so much that I even fear that bhvr makes the 25% as with pop (the current progress) meaning another nerf hehe
but you have to be careful! without, corrupt, dead lock etc, it would be bad for the current gen speed, you would have to keep increasing it, but then we're going in circles, do you know how the relationship between the imf and soloq is? as if bhvr would bring in the planned 24sec heal, nice and cool for the killers but Nurse, Blight, Spirit would be absolutely broken with it, only doing it with solo q is ok (see the past) if you do this it will slow down swf a bit and the swf will die from it (I'm speaking here really no gen regresstion perks 120sec for gens) ATTENTION! these are numbers that i just say, doesn't mean that they were considered after a long study are hehe
Can't say I agree, but I appreciate your consistency
-
Should all regression perks work like Pain Resonance ?
-
Yes. If the game is worth playing right now, it is worth playing in a couple of months with a few more characters and perks, even if they're duds.
-
Killer : Legion =D (My admiration for Hag in untouched but my will to play her post-nerf has been absent lately)
Survivor : Haddie <3
