If by soft-counter to camping and tunneling you mean the emblem punishment you get for staying near a hook, I would argue that people who want to camp don't even care for the emblem punishments anyways.

To be honest, what this game needs is actual punishment in game to killers that camp and tunnel that actually affect the match, making those strategies far less viable. Killers can do just as well if not better without camping and tunneling, there is no reason for such unfun strategies to still be as potentially effective as they are right now. Especially now that maps are being made fairer for killer, survivors shouldn't have to deal with such frustrations as well.

Let us all know if you can think of any ways to implement that which survivors could not abuse.

  • Whenever I play survivor it's solo, so that's probably why this happens, but I find myself getting farmed off the hook or just even simply tunneled down pretty often. Thing is, I don't play toxic or try to piss people off, and I rarely ever touch most perks people would call "toxic." That includes DS, which I still to this day haven't ever really used. Not for the sole reason of it being OP and me not allowing myself OP things or anything, but I just find other perks more interesting. Anyway, I say all this because, being a solo survivor and finding myself at the short end of the stick, and always having those games where I can do practically 0 things except get chased, I find myself wanting to start spamming DS. But then I have to deal with people that might focus me just because I took DS or whatever.

It just feels like I can't win. It's either I go against people who bring mori's and/or tunnel the shiz out of me and spam really boring things constantly like Forever Freddy and Nurse while not having any "second chance/crutch" perks to defend myself, or I bring those things and then not enjoy myself/get tunneled anyway because I had OP things. And I don't like bringing the absolute strongest stuff every game and just easy winning anyway because it's just a snooze fest.

  • Yeah dude I really feel bad for them. That's why even if I'll criticize the devs I'll still defend them when I think it's appropriate because some people on the forums get some wild ideas of what they think should be the reality of the game. And I don't see the devs come onto the forums and be immature a lot which is surprising given the attitudes of some devs I've seen. Maybe that happens but I haven't seen it.

  • There's a reason people say Beast of Prey is a trash perk... The effect is tied to bloodlust activating.

  • If it was up to me I'd scrap the idea of it being tied to gens done and make it a completely different requirement. Random idea off the top of my head: make it into almost a counter part/less boring version of Dying Light.

Gain a token each time you hook the obsession. Each token grants a stacking 3/4/5% increase in speed for vaulting, breaking, picking up, dropping off, etc.

Then it would still ramp up in power as the game goes on and maybe feel like it actually gets scary once you realize whatever killer you're facing is jumping through a window ultra fast at you, or just shredding through pallets like a Hillbilly.

  • I'm always up for the challenge if somebody wants to taunt or bully me. Just makes it all the more satisfying when I catch them.

  • I won't say it made no difference, but I can distinctly remember people still crying about gen rushers before Ruin got reworked.

So, take that for what it's worth.

  • I used to give those "free hits" too and still will sometimes, but more recently I've been just immediately leaving because I don't even want to seem like that guy who just sits there and teabags the killer and then runs out/jumps through hatch before they can even swing for a hit. Same reason I don't bring broken keys into games, I don't wanna look like the wrong kind of person and get tunneled for bringing in a key lol

Didn’t know a dif team was designing it, but yeah I can already notice some differences with the blood web and getting perks and stuff. I don’t think it’s that bad though since it adds a little bit of freshness to the game, but yeah hopefully they don’t complete change core aspects of the game too much and or get rid of any.

Yes, another difference is these like "mega box" things they have. Like those boxes you see on the bloodwebs with random items, but they cost like 30k, or 50k or something. And then they contain like a skin or something? Yeah, there's already a few differences and it hasn't existed for that long. Fingers crossed though.

  • I forgot who, but somebody on the DbD team specifically said they would be doing certain things to throw off conspiracy theorists like Paulie Esther. So keep that in mind.

  • I'm not going to get into how because people are just going to get salty because I'm taking the "side" of killer or survivor.

I say just make it truly an anti tunnel perk if that's what it's supposed to be. Could have a condition to activate like Deliverance. Could just have the timer reduced because tunneling doesn't happen 60 seconds after an unhook. Several things can be done to truly solidify it as "anti tunnel" and not an all purpose stunning/bullying perk.

  • I mean it specifically says "trumps all stealth perks." Probably because it's not a whole lot of information, only "the killer is nearish and looking in my direction while this is activated."

"Undetectable" refers to the killer having their terror radius and red stain removed. Both those features still function completely fine even if SC activates.

Also, why should the range only be 12m honestly? A killer will literally already be coming up to you by the time you even see that light up.

  • I don't get it. You're saying Nintendo Switch killers aren't letting you farm?

  • Why are all these 1 post accounts commenting on such an old post..

Damn , whats up with people here missing points all the time? TC wasnt intending on playing forreal to begin with; despite killers perks he didn't go out of the boundaries of what should be considered toxic because, at the end of the day, theyre playing the game as intended- that alone validifies the killer in this situtation. Yall need to blame the game for its trash balance and intentional perk uses, not the player.

And LOL that youre paranoid about more propaganda. If we were really quarantined it would be 10x worse. Idk where you live, but this isnt a real quarantine.

You're the one missing points here. I don't give a rat's ass about whether the killer was toxic or not. I think it's even more ridiculous than the whole story, that you have the nerve to call it "harassment," and also tell him to go outside when a lot of people are recommending otherwise. That's the point of what I'm saying. You're gonna go against that at some point and it's just people messing around. If you can get genuinely mad at that I honestly feel sorry for you. There's no blame being put from me onto anybody, or even the game. You're just simply saying something ridiculous. So please, try not to "miss the point" again this time.

That on top of the fact that you call the pandemic going on "propaganda," both show your extreme ignorance. Propaganda doesn't fill morgues, kid, but have fun trying to strawman what I'm saying with your whole joke of calling it "propaganda."

I don't think I want to waste any more time on somebody who says such ridiculous things so frequently.

  • Why would people ever run NOED then? It would literally be a 3 stack Devour that would only work once the exit gates are opened. At that point, might as well just bring Devour and get a couple hooks.

Totems are supposed to be high risk high reward, but the risk wouldn't be worth the reward if there's a visibly lit totem from the start of the game that does literally nothing except glow and crackle until the gates are opened.

  • @1MillionPalletsToGo said:

That could be considered harrassment towards killer. U cant be upset for a killer player wanting to simply just play the game(as killer) , thats the point. When i get into stupid lobbies like that , i play a long with it; but i ######### hate it, and cant wait for it to end. Go meet up with your friends and do something irl, otherwise nobody wants to be forced to waste time with a bunch of strangers in an awkward situation dude.. :/

Some games can get a pass like that but, in DBD, 4 team trolls and 1 player sucks.

And some people don't want to go against a fully stacked ultra sweaty killer. Just because you don't want to go against it doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen.

And yeah, real smart telling him to go outside and do something with his friends during this time where everybody's getting the flu.

Didnt have to put any of that on. Theres a reason theres a pre game prep xD he put it on cause he's toxic. He could have left to find another game but he didnt. He chose his toxic path, simple. Brought NOED aswell so there is no sympathy shared with him. Combined with his McDonalds connection.

I don't exactly think I'd be happy wasting all of my add ons and offerings and stuff on games like that, but don't listen to these guys. It's not harassment and it's definitely not toxic to let the killer hit you. Literally making his job easy and complaining is nothing to be salty about. And people who call that stuff harassment, you're right. They're too sensitive. It's not like you could have predicted from the lobby coordinating your Dwight squad that he was going to be a sweaty Doc anyway. So that eliminates the possibility of it being targeted harassment, at that.

Can somebody tell when this matchmaking end? Devs talk about change it to be better, something just like new elo system, but i have to ASK myself again and again : if you dont have enough killers how change of machtmaking will fix it??? We will clone killers? How somebody like me will ever play killer again after see this matchmaking? And no i dont need listen: you got 3k so all fine. Cause this post isnt about lucky kills, it is about game desing.

Didn't you just make that post earlier, with the exact same picture and wording?

Anyway, to answer the original poster, yes it's normal. Don't worry though, rank often doesn't mean anything. You can run into somebody at rank 1 or 2 and before the game ends be thinking to yourself that they're probably rank 15 or something. Similarly, you can run into rank 17s and stuff that are only there because they don't play often, and they're actually pretty good.

  • "Doesn't harm anyone but us to DC" Had to stop reading after that, because it's already false.

  • When the game actually felt like either side had a chance. Exactly what a good game is. Otherwise there's no reason to type it.

  • I like the idea of just straight up DbD on mobile, but I don't feel like I'll be able to get into it. They have a different team designing it and are already making noticeable changes to how bloodpoints are spent there and all.

As I said, I like the idea of DbD on mobile, but I just know how mobile games tend to be with microtransactions and all. I'm just worried about how the other company will take the game and change it from the original.

  • If I have a key and am going against a decent killer that I feel in danger of being sacrificed around, and I found the hatch, I'm going to take it if I don't know where survivors are and can easily get them over to where I am without being found out.

As some have said already, this isn't a team game. It's a game where the whole premise is *based around* sometimes being selfish. These are just random survivors that don't know each other, and it's supposed to have that same atmosphere where not every random person is going to always be looking out for other people. Just like IRL.

So no. No punishment for people who do things like that, for the same reason there shouldn't be punishments for people who gen rush or camp or tunnel or anything else that people complain about: it's a legitimate playstyle. Therefore, shouldn't be punishable.

Like I've said before my internet randomly drops and usually I'm able to complete matches I dont quit on purpose, but it had been more frequent with connections being slowed in my area. I paid for my game I should be able to play it.

I will say I don't hate on people for having bad internet. I know not everybody can have access to great internet. I'm talking specifically about people who, it's obvious they intentionally disconnect. After their first down, DC within 1.5 seconds or whatever. I still see that stuff pretty frequently.

And I agree that you should be able to play the game if you paid money. Just like anybody else who paid money should be able to play it. I just don't think that just because somebody paid money to play, that means they get to ruin the experience for others. Intentionally. The same way if I went into a fancy restaurant that I paid to get into, I could expect to get kicked out or punished for ruining the experience for other restaurant-goers.

I do feel for you with internet problems, honestly. I just think that people thinking they're entitled to just quit whenever they want, just because they're not having fun, is a huge problem. And if the problem continues to exist, then obviously the system isn't harsh enough to keep those players that DC like that out of my games.

At the same time I can also imagine positive reinforcement working better possibly. I'm of the opinion that, to some people, even getting a complete ban isn't going to stop them from just getting the game again and purposefully trolling. So maybe it might be nice to have positive reinforcement, and reward the players that actually bother to stick out multiple games through to the end. Like maybe accruing a 1.25 or 1.5x BP multiplier for being on a streak of not quitting games. Those might be overwhelming/underwhelming numbers, but it's just a random idea off the top of my head. That way, people who DC randomly would finally get to stop complaining about their penalties and it wouldn't punish people with bad internet. And, the people who actually play the game are getting a reward they deserve that the trolls that just disconnect don't get to have.

  • I'm not trying to justify death threats, but if you're waiting around for the end game screen and looking at chat, and also keeping your profile public to comments, I would say that that's relatively normal. At least for playing online games.

  • I like the idea. They're going to have to come up with more unique perks in the future, so might as well open up the realm of "killer juking" as a perk. Then it might actually make those people who just like to get in the killer's face and dodge around actually seem less like they're trolling and more like they're being useful. And it might also have counterplay in the sense that the killer would have a reason to not focus down somebody who's just taunting them. Similarly to how you can kind of tell when somebody has DS and is trying to bully you with it.

  • That might actually be the most genuinely killer skin if they added it.

  • I think they might even need to be increased. I still see survivors DC after being dropped for the first time or whatever. I've only had one legitimate bug happen mid game since this system was implemented, so while it's still a problem kind of, I disagree that random crashes are a reason for them to reduce the penalty or anything. If somebody truly doesn't disconnect all the time, a random crash that gives a small 5 minute penalty isn't the end of the world.

The people in this forum that are saying "if I get tunneled 3 games in a row" or "I'll just disconnect anyway if the game is unfun for me" are the exact types of survivors that bolster my point. People don't understand that if they decide to jump into a multiplayer game with other people online, that they're taking on an unspoken responsibility to make the game a fair match. Just like if you were to play a game of street basketball with some people, you don't just randomly say "okay I'm done" and leave your team whenever you feel like it. It's the same kinds of people that I imagine going over to a friend's house to play video games, and then getting mad and shutting off the console when they're getting beat. It's the a perfect example of entitlement and selfishness.

Hello community. Newcomer here. Just bought dbd on steam, didn't have occasion to play it though . Wanna use the time steam gives so i could get a refund(just in case)

Watched a lot of gameplays, and the game is looks like a lot of fun, but I'm little anxious about community (heard its pretty toxic).

What about game balance? Heard some killers have issues with this.

How's the game on higher tiers, because I've read it's only good in lower tiers, the higher tiers are unfun and hard - I would like to know your opinion.

What about grinding? I wouldn't like to grind 24/7 and waste a lot of time playing. Is playing casually few games a day ok to get mediocre at the game, and have fun at the same time?

Are hatches in the same places every time on maps, or are they spawning randomly like generators?

What advices can you give me as total newcomer both for killers and survivors?

    Thx and cheers

    Welcome.

-Higher tiers are more "tryhard" or "sweaty" than lower tiers but it really depends on whether you like to try harder or just mess around and not take the game seriously.

-The game isn't too balanced. Some days it will feel really imbalanced if you're frustrated but most games you have a chance at winning if you're good enough.

-You don't need to grind a ton to get skilled at the game as long as you're dedicated, but the perks you need to unlock do require a bit of grind. I'm not pro or anything but I play anywhere from a bunch of games in a day, to maybe a few games every few days, and I still hold my own at decently high ranks.

-Hatches can spawn practically anywhere in a map, except on higher elevations I believe (like 2nd stories of houses and whatnot). One exception being up on a hill that spawns in multiple maps.

-For killer and survivor, I have common advice. Not too much specifically for either. Most important thing to remember in my opinion is to just treat it as a learning experience. I believe I have 1k hours and I still treat it like a learning experience, because there's always going to be new little tricks and techniques you can find out. Also, since you're just learning things, have fun with it. Not every game is going to be perfect and there's going to be toxic people that want to ruin your fun. Just don't let them.

One more thing. If you don't feel like dealing with toxicity like I usually don't, then just do what I do and say GG if you want at the end game screen, and leave immediately. Hope you enjoy your time playing. :)

  • It's not the worst idea, but I think practically everybody is already pretty aware of covid, at least as aware as public knowledge lets us be.

  • I was gonna comment on how it's totally possible to succeed still and how not every game is SWF, but looks like plenty of people already beat me to it. GJ guys! :)

  • I agree with a couple points in the comments: the music is a nice touch, and I'm pretty sure the music is supposed to be loud. Also, the hook audio I feel is worse than the chase music. I feel like after I hook somebody, and especially when they're mid sacrifice, the audio is just way too much.

It's not just the killers that deal with it either. Survivors deal with it too: I can't tell you how many times I've been playing survivor against Spirit, for example, and been trying to listen to her footsteps or whatever only for the chase music to be too overbearing for me to be able to tell where the footsteps were coming from. So again, not just a killer problem.

  • I love that I'm actually seeing some sensible things being said here.

I know they've already been said but I was gonna say them anyway so... The survivors don't need to complete all gens to use a key. That's simply wrong. On top of that, the first few gens are always going to be the easiest to complete because there's no way, even as the most mobile killers, to guard every single gen at all times very well. It simply isn't going to happen against good survivors, especially in a SWF. So I agree with the part that there's situations where a key can lead to a free win without having to do anything, and I too have seen it from both sides.

Other games being more toxic doesn't make dbd any less toxic

I'm in my 30's. I've been around a lot of competitive games (by that I mean eSport before eSport was a word). DBD is definitely way up there in the toxicity. I don't even think LOL can compare, LOL players get angry but they don't target and harass other players like you see in DBD. It's disgusting.

It's especially bad on Xbox. There are players that share hit lists of other players to mori spam or Bubba facecamp. There are also players that will DDOS you for killing them/escaping the game.

That's simply wrong. People will harass you in LoL. I can name several examples even since there's been quite a few over the years. Not to say LoL is the absolute worst but LoL definitely can compare to DbD and I'm like 87% comfortable with saying it's just worse.

Only thing is in DbD the players are a lot more childish because they make up their own rules and stuff a lot.

@ZoneDymo my definition of winning = having had fun in a game.

@Huff That includes knowing that the survivors also have fun with the way I play. If the same survivor always ends up running into my arms I will hit them once and go away, but if I see someone just teabag after every window and pallet I ask myself why they are so hostile towards me. That ruins the game for me because even if I make an effort of making the game fun for everyone, maybe just having let baby Dwight get away, I still get another teammate disrespecting that.

Maybe you tell me stop caring about everyone else's fun but I don't want to quickly kill the worse players and then deal with the better ones. I like giving all of them chances.

Also @ZoneDymo that sounds great but what am I supposed to do on Oni? XD he can just act the brutal killer or take blood donations the whole game.

NGL, sounds like the problem is just how you perceive it. You said you want the survivors to have fun and it sounds like in your example scenario they're having fun. The problem you state is that somebody is being disrespectful or whatever, but that's just how people are. As a result, I have to say once again that if that's something that somebody can't handle then maybe they shouldn't be on the game they're playing. The way I try to look at it is a survivor is wasting their time instead of running away from me, so it can even be helpful.

If you choose to go easy on survivors, expect them to disrespect you and call you a baby because they think you're bad or just simply want to troll you/get you mad. That's actually how some of them are. You just have to learn to accept it, and this is coming from somebody who plays killer and tries being nice when I can.

I took a break from playing because of the ruin changes but my friend brought me back in and I got ######### by rank reset and I'm slogging through the low ranks back to purple even though I've smurfed because I kept getting red ranks and didn't enjoy the game so I smurfed a few ranks before but I'm going back through the ranks.

That's the thing: stuff like what happened to you happens. You take a break and come back after a few resets, or you just don't play that often or whatever, and then you gotta slog through the ranks. One or two pips at a time. And it's crazy how many people just disregard something like that, and just be like "you're low rank you can't talk." Even on the forums I've seen it here and there.

harmless? I can see lots of new players lose interest in the game because they keep getting bullied like that. I'm just not a fan of such behaviour, even if it helps your team

If somebody can't handle somebody crouching up and down in a game then maybe it's not a game they should be playing. It's a thing that's been happening as long as characters in games could crouch.

It's probably not going to change and players themselves are going to create limitations or mini-games to delay the inevitable.

I also believe that the devs are incapable and/or unwilling to invest time and energy into improving the overall experience with more than new layers of paint.

there is a difference here, first of all the new event was brought out recently in a bit of a more difficult time to work on the game and secondly it got a lot of patches aka support already since then.

Railjack was released too early but that was also to give the players something new and fresh todo while the team went on vacation.

I agree that Railjack is nowhere near it should be and that the devs have their own problems, mainly never seemingly properly following through with a big update to make it what we all want it to be and rather just jumping to the next big update.

But that is a very different problem from the devs here who do seemingly abso-freaking-lutely nothing, it takes them 10 million years to adress one perk while it should take them an afternoon and a PTB....

I just want to say the grass always seems greener on the other side.

  • I think he's pretty good and not over the top OP though. I happen to suck with him though which makes me a little sad.

  • @ZoneDymo said:

Its not a lack of funding I can tell you that with certainty, its a lack of willing to invest, hire more and competent people to work on the game for example.

Nope, ez cashgrab so far, minimal effort = maximum profit.

Look at Warframe, another Canadian game, look at how much (free) content they push out and how many patches based on user feedback....then look at dbd, the contrast is indeed shocking.

Dont get me wrong, I still like DBD very much but its extremely painful how people come to these forums with ideas and requests every time and so little of it ever gets answered or even...tried in ya know, the freaking PTB

FYI I'm into Warframe too and that community is not happy with their dev either. Prime example: newest event is a buggy mess and is already partially built on a flawed game mode/system based around space ships (railjacks). They've had more than their fair share of moments upsetting their community involving even strictly community-based things (like the chat moderators) so I just wanted to say all that to bring up the point that, they're far from perfect as well.

  • Punishing players for doing something that's ultimately harmless? Even helpful sometimes? No thanks.

obviously, but im not talking about that, im not talking about instand saves, that is just disrespectful and stupid and should be punished.

Im talking about faking going away but being ready to return on a moments notice, or dropping a chase with an injured survivor just to go back to the hook.

That is what im talking about, highly effective at giving you that 4k, but I wont do that myself which I guess is part of why I dont get that many kills.

There's plenty of things that you can do to stop people from being cocky and make getting a 4k easy overall. Whether it be certain characters, certain add ons for characters, certain perks, whatever. You don't only have to resort to instantly tunneling or whatever if that's what you're referring to.

But yes, if winning is what's fun to you for the most part then don't be nice. For me personally I like to just mess around and knock the survivors around even if I don't get a 4k in the end but there's times when I want to switch it up and try a little for once and I'll dedicate some games to being serious and end up getting 3ks and 4ks. It really is a matter of just trying as hard as you feel comfortable with, and having fun with that. If you love going tryhard pick up Nurse or Spirit and run an ebony mori every game, and watch the kills come flooding in. But, if you love keeping things interesting, come up with different builds that fit your custom style and work from there. I don't think everybody has to be nice, but I don't think everybody always has to try hard to have fun either.

  • I'm not gonna comment on the math too much, because I'm downright stupid at math, but something about that doesn't sound completely right. But again, bad at math.

Anyway, like you said, you spend a bunch of stuff for one escape off a hook per person. That's one extra life essentially when each person can run all meta perks and have like 4 different extra lives.

I like luck, but I have to admit when something just isn't as good in most situations.

  • It is the servers most likely.

This is why I wish they'd add a "killer's connection" bar like they used to have during PtP matchmaking. Then I could look at a killer's connection to the server and decide if I want to deal with getting hit .3 seconds after I jump through a window.

  • I agree with both things you said:

    -Screwed MMing

    -got the 4k anyway

I know people from rank 20 are generally gonna be not as good as people from rank 1, but I can't count the amount of times I've had somebody ######### talk me purely because of my rank. Even if they did something really stupid that I pointed out, it wouldn't matter because "why are you even talking? you're rank 15" or whatever.

I'm a strong believer that people put too much emphasis on rank on this game, and use rank solely to determine whether somebody can have an opinion or not. It really isn't like that.

They nerfed struggle speed to compensate though. Used to struggle at 33%, now it’s 25%. It means killers can get to a second hook.

This only applies to the killer dropping a survivor.

Im sorry your aquad doesnt work anymore, solo sabo is amazing! Also if they were killer sided, why did they nerf ruin and BUFF sabo off the PTB? Honestly answer that, I cant wait to hear the bias

I agree solo sabo can actually be effective if you're paying attention, but it's obviously more restrictive than having a full team. I've played killer and gotten greedy trying to carry a survivor to a slightly further hook, only for their team mate to run in front of me and sabo the hook, making it too late for me to get to another one and forcing the survivor to be let go.

Anyway addressing the original post, I don't exactly know how sabo is broken. If you 4k every game good for you but I would think for the average killer it's at least a bonus, and it's not the most ridiculous nerf for survivors to where now they're useless or anything. There's still games where people get gen rushed and it's not impossible for survivors to survive, but at the same time, if I play killer and go all out I can usually pick up a 3 or 4k. So overall from the perspective of both sides IDK how to feel honestly, but I don't think this change was that disastrous, let alone "appeals" to any killers or survivors too much.
