I'm not trying to start a war, I promise.

Something I've been wondering is, which do survivors find less annoying? Regression or blocking?

For full clarify, though I expect most know what I mean, regression would be things like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, Pop Goes the Weasel, Hex: Ruin, any perk which takes away gen progress.

Gen blocking would be anything that prevents the generator from being worked on. Grim Embrace, Deadlock, Dead Man's Switch.

Full context: I play a lot of killers I know survivors aren't the biggest fans of (Pinhead, Alien, Chucky, Sadako) and as a result I want to use builds which give me a good shot at winning but don't overpower your average solo queue group, and I tend to avoid perks I know survivors hate a lot.

I've long hoped for a Grim Embrace buff, since I thought survivors would vastly prefer it to repairing the same gen over and over. Instead you get a small timeout to heal, rescue someone, open a chest, maybe cleanse a totem. But survivors seem to hate Grim Embrace even more than regression.

So I was just really curious, if you could pick that your next killer only could use 2 regression perks or 2 blocking perks, which would you pick?

for sure blocking is a better time to play against regression of a gen from 90 to almost nothing with pain res a pop is terrible.

New players who play with other new players will learn the game just fine. It's when you pair up with your less than 10 hour friends getting a killer with over 1000 hours then wondering why your 10 hour friends are not enjoying the game.

Pretty much any online pvp game, you need to be playing against people of your own skill level. Random people you match with are not going to go easy, because you are trying to introduce your friends to a game. If you want to play with them, find a way to do customs until they get better.

No you dont when I play fps games or any mmo I can play for more then 2 min with my friends without having to wait 15 min. I play ranked mw3 and get to play more then 2 minutes when I que with my friends that are crimson and I got against try hards.

Sorry, I may not have checked that thoroughly. If so, it's my mistake. However, it's good to keep in mind as an option, as it can be very effective when maneuvering back and forth between pallets.

That's true but yea check out looking completely down at window at shack its pretty nice can hit some really cool shots.

The issue is you are expecting new players to enjoy playing way above their skill level. "Fixing" tunneling wouldn't solve the fundamental issue that people need to learn to play against other players close to their skill level. Throwing them into the fire doesn't help them.

Okay so you don't want new players to the game is what your saying? Because if the tunneling was gone they would have a chance to learn the game.

Show me a video of a killer who isn't playing nurse or tomestone myers (they don't count in any challenge) of a killer winning against a comp team without tunneling.

I look forward to it to learn from it.

Sure here also comp is a complete different game then dbd. People go on hundreds of game win streaks without tunneling as killer. These are all people you can watch at high mmr who don't tunnel every game to win.

You're bringing new players against experienced killers and then wondering why they aren't enjoying the game as much.

Well if I don't bring them in the game with me they wont play at all. So my point being is fix tunneling and more people will play the game. As a player you want a huge player count and the company to make as much money as possible and see as much growth as possible.

  • @xltechno said:

He is a killer similar to the Executioner who cannot escape normally when using his ability. Survivors fleeing must have map knowledge to keep looking behind them, and avoid the killer's abilities by listening to the sound of the killer's ability use and moving away to avoid the blast through walls, and sometimes evading the killer's ability by rushing towards him. Killer abilities cannot be used in close quarters, unless you use an obstacle.

It depends if you aim directly down you can use it pretty close I've gotten it where shack isn't very playable against him.

If your queueing up with literal new players you are harming their experience, because you are forcing them to get matched with killers above their skill level.

Well they're not gonna play if they aren't playing with a friend. So the best way to fix that problem is to fix tunneling and make the game accessible for as many people as possible. Saying not to play with friends is a really bad business design for a multiplayer game. I hate playing fps games but the only way I play is with friends.

I think you are missing some information.

Basically, the way the game is designed, at a high level, it is not possible to not tunnel. Survivors outrepair you when there are 4 of them. So you have to eliminate someone as fast as possible. Typically, against good teams, your first down means you will lose 2-3 gens. Against bad teams, it is differnet. But the point being is. Against low tier survivors, tunneling is hard to deal with and frustrating to play against. Against top tier teams, it is required. So, make tunneling literally NOT POSSIBLE. Not nerf it, not discourage it, i mean literally make it fundamentally impossible to do, and then do SOMETHING to slow the game down so that at a high level killers will still be able to compete.

That's actually not true plenty of killers don't tunnel and win at high mmr. The problem is killers tunnel get to high mmr and then have to continue to tunnel because if they don't they find out they aren't as good at killer as they thought.

Believe it or not, "immersion" used to influence the game's design. Early DBD was a pretty different game to today.

Yea I know I've been playing since myers. I still had comms.

You got the resident evil license, where are the new skins at? It’s been like a year since that chapter got anything. Silent hill? Where are the skins for Cheryl and pyramid head? How about saw? They got a tome and just never got outfits after. Stranger things just acme back into the game…with nothing new seriously give us more license cosmetics.

also do something about legendary skins

Even if they have a good relationship they have to ask before they can even make it. I'm sure they have and got shut down. If they just make a bunch of really cool skins and then the license holder says no then that means they just wasted a huge amount of money and time they could have been working on something else.

Tunneling can be countered by making chases take too long to be worth it.

Camping can be countered by hook trading close to the end of the current hook stage.

They aren't infallible strategies, but too many survivors don't know how to properly deal with them.

Yea but that means you have to get better none of my friends even want to try to get better because they only get to play for like 2 min because they get tunneled out and they have to wait 15 min to play again because they have less then 2 hours on the game.

if they are intended, then why are there so many info perks in the game? why is there no baseline communication (see: not voice) beyond pointing and beckoning? Why have the devs made the famous 1v1v1v1v1 comment?

As for "why add it?", did you ever consider pc players may not be discord friends with their teammates (or even on discord at all?) Ditto for consle players with their platform"s friend system, noted separately since crossplay wasn't added until later on? You're welcome to stop projecting you moron comment by the way, as I have neither said nor insinuated it.

Because some people don't have mics. I mean its really easy to just message them and them meet up on discord.

Well that's pretty weird you don't run into legions like that then. not saying its not happening just kind of strange.

like I know he is new to the game and we still have to learn how to play against him but my friends are already complaining about him and that he is another go next killer. i said to them: it's been like 2 days since the chapter dropped, just give it some time and you will get used to him. i wanted to ask how do you actually play against him right now, cuz the only thing I know is that you have to stare at him for like 10 sec when you are in hallucination mode and do a lot of dispelling of his bodies around the map. more tips or guides would be very much appreciated! ;)

Really its just hold w change tiles and be a little unpredictable. This killer is probably one of the best killers in the game its going to force survivors to get better by making them rotate the camera while getting chased and learn how to chain tiles.

No? I honestly don't know how you got that from what I posted. I even literally said in the post you quoted that

SWF being planned from the start was necessary

Also why are you trying to make me out to be aggressive toward the devs? or that making any type of ingame communication would somehow prohibit them from "making the game better instead"?

"If comms were intended, there would have at least been some consideration to adding comms to the game, either text/voice/both, but its always a stanch NO."

They are intended they just know that they don't have to make it mandatory to have them because if you want to use them they have apps and chat for that. Why waste time adding it in when you can already do it without them having to do all that extra stuff. The devs know this that's why I'm asking if you think they are morons or something. Its like hey lets spend thousands of dollars we could use for something else (because development time - money) implementing comms when they already can do it for free if they want. Its why they still wont add it why why add it they have a whole discord for that with literal SWF channels multiple channels.

  • @Samatrain said:

We all love DBD, that's why we play it, and that's why we're here on these forums always addressing our concerns and the things we like. But now I would argue is one of DBD's peaks. Resident Evil chapters were obviously great hits but now we've got (I would argue) hit after hit. Yeah we went through some tough times, some tough releases, but now things have been great, despite all the negativity people have about balancing. We got the Xenomorph, which was awesome (even though it needed some tweaks to be brought down a little), a super cool implementation of Chucky, Alan Wake and this All Things Wicked chapter! Maybe I'm a bit biased too but the Iron Maiden collab and Slipknot collabs are also reasons I've returned after many months.

Anyways, what do you think are some of DBD's peaks?

Xeno morph was terrible chucky was mid cage was whatever and this patch is also mid. As a killer its a little better but playing survivor is super boring now, if you are trying to escape. That's why I just go for saves and chases now. Id rather have fun then have to do gens for 20 min just to escape less then 50% of the time while the killer runs full slowdowns tunnels and just plays super sweaty. There's survivors that do this also but bhvr is trying to mitigate those problems but isn't doing anything to mitigate the survivors misery for like the last year. While I understand not every patch can be survivor sided or vice versa or 50/50 I haven't seen anything worth while for survivor in like a year that has stayed in the game.

  • @Ryuhi said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674754#Comment_3674754

The game is specifically designed with no communication in mind. SWF being planned from the start was necessary, as evidenced by the lobby shopping that happened in the short time before its introduction in 1.0.3 kinda proved. If comms were intended, there would have at least been some consideration to adding comms to the game, either text/voice/both, but its always a stanch NO.

SWF was always intended to be in the game, but it was never the intended target for balancing the game. its a 1v1v1v1v1 after all apparently.

So you're saying that the devs are morons and didn't know that people on Xbox and PlayStation had party chat or people on pc had discord and team speak? Pretty sure they were like hmmm we don't need to add chat in game because there's different ways they can do that already lets put our resources to making the game better instead.

  • The funniest thing is that killers say swf is god mode and then they dont even escape 50% of the time. Its just killers who suck and hard tunnel that get to an mmr where it doesn't work anymore and they cry all day about it. The problem isn't the swf the problem is that you just aren't that good.

Wow this was a hell of a turn around for accusations. I'd leave the chat too, C3.

While its not your problem others aren't having fun, it is BHVR's. You ruining the game for others and knowing it just shows a bit of personality type and lack of empathy for your fellow gamer. Thats totally fine btw, we are who we are.

Tunneling will be dealt with because they are a company. YOUR responsibility doesn't really matter. Respect is cool, but not necessary. Playing a game is supposed to be fun, but its not necessary. And i don't even know why you threw out that last bit about the 60/40 kill rate. If you truly think thats what any of this is all about, then yeah, definitely nothing more to talk about here lolol.

This is the quote right here all killer mains say oh its not my responsibility you are right but don't complain when your tactics get nerfed because bhvr has to address that new people don't want to play the game because that tactic makes the game boring. You dug your own grave by tunneling and abusing it and then it gets nerfed.

  • Tunneling is losing bhvr money I have cashapped 20 of my friends money to buy the game and only 2 have stayed the other 18 returned and refunded the game before the two hour mark because they got tunneled out of the game every time.

  • @Zaydin said:

So I should be forced to play rigged games then? Because a full SWF has the game rigged in their favor.

How do they have a rigged advantage when there escape rate is still under 50% at the highest MMR. That literally means no matter what skill not being an issue killer still has a higher win rate if you are going by escapes which is what bhvr deems the win condition.

  • @Nick said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3660956#Comment_3660956

A 1-minute chase can already lose you the game though. You have to pick up, walk to hook, look for gens with progress. By that time a minimum of 2 should pop, third gen with progress you just interrupted.

If you are taking one minute in a chase for every chase it means bhvr has held your hand so long you are in the wrong MMR!

No. I’m complaining to survivors of any skill level. I’m complaining about a double standard, where killers are expected to avoid certain strategies for the sake of survivor fun, but survivors aren’t expected to avoid certain strategies for the sake of killer fun.

People don’t care that you personally think tunneling at 5 generators is unnecessary. That’s just an arbitrary one-sided rule. And it doesn’t matter if something is necessary or unnecessary either, because it’s part of the game.

Easiest way is bhvr just nerfs the ######### out of tunneling which will happen eventually then killers can actualy learn to get good at the game.

Except it's not. Official tournaments ban specific unhealthy perks on /both/ sides of play and don't allow tunnelling the same survivor off of the hook or proxy camping, because who in their right mind wants to watch that.

Well said. I watch dbd league more then any other streamer and I watch a bunch of other tournament organizers. Comp and dbd are not even the same game.

There is a difference in countering something and preventing it. The heal tech can be prevented not coutered - tunneling can be countered not prevented.

Also, this "just win before the gates are opened" argument is pretty weak. I said it before but I'll repeat myself: The game isn't over until it's over. That survivor has not escaped yet. This is a slippery slope. Because then we could also argue that Devour Hope shouldn't be a hex perk and it wouldn't be an issue. After all; "jUst WIn bEfORe iT hApPenS" could be applied here as well.

There are some things you simply won't be able to prevent other than by winning before they occur. This doesn't mean, that they're fine.

I wouldn't mind that at all since I don't care about escaping in the first place.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3673246#Comment_3673246

It doesn't matter. Survivors aren't safe until they're out. Or at least they shouldn't be. And that survivor isn't out yet.

It's not the most pressing concern but it is something that should be patched out eventually.

Just don't let the doors open that the counter play.

I think the nade launcher is too oppressive, but giving survivors a way to easily self heal again really reduces killer pressure (which is why self healing was nerfed before). Also, map wide BNP is ridiculously strong, but perma being broken...not quite sure yet if the cost is enough to pay for that. Some people do want to be injured especially with resilience. Gens already fly too fast, so BNP on all gens is kind of silly. That being said, I LOVE the idea of alternative ways to accomplish goals.

its only situational always remember it could take you 20 sec to get to basement or 40 if you dont know where its at.

  • @felipesegatto1 said:

Im pretty sure a lot of survivors have so much to say about the game state balance and fun wise. Also, just making new skins and nice designed new survivors doesnt make up to the fact that the game is too rough, unfun and unbalanced against survivors. If we get the chance to say how we feel, maybe they will start to listen to the majority of players, that are survivor players

I bought the game for 10 people 9 returned the game pretty sure new survivors don't like the state of the game. Also dont hold your breath this is a killer majority forum. No one can hear you scream here as stated by @peantis above one of the dev/managers/ therye gonna make the game how they want.

So you meant the fact that a killer can throw the game to force a kill? Yeah, that can happen. It's unfortunate for sure but also not an easy thing to fix. You'd need to grant that survivor complete invulnerability, which comes with a bunch of different issues.

For a heal tech however, you don't throw the game. So even that aspect is not the same.

yea but if you got to that point you already lost.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3672956#Comment_3672956

First off: You can do something against tunneling. There are perks that help you out against a tunneling killer and your team mates can also come and take hits. So that is not really the same. There is of course the option to loop as well. So you can technically counter tunneling with skill. Now try to do that against the heal tech.

Second, I'm pretty sure that tunneling actually does have a pretty big impact.

So; no, the heal tech and tunneling aren't alike.

No you cant literally if the killer throws the game to tunnel there's nothing you can do about it no perk will stop it. Thats why no matter what band aid fixes bhvr tries to do with perks it hasnt worked. You can literally counter heal tech dont let them get to the gate. You can literally counter it by hitting them before they get there using your logic.

  • @Krazzik said:

Eeeh, technically it's not really fair because the killer can't do anything against it and it should probably be removed. That said it's very rare that it actually matters so it's not a big deal currently.

of course, yes; but this line of argument is wishful thinking. Players like this will play the game, will get triggered due to some reason, and act like that - maybe act like that in the next/successive matches.

Saying they should do or feel this and that is a very commendable (and probably gratifying) moral highground, but it is also a display of being somewhat blind towards the realities of this community.

also sometimes its not just because there mad sometimes they might be trying to get a certain type of content and that killer may make it hard like if they are running lightborn and they are trying to get flash save content.

Why does it seem survivors only want weak killers they can screw around with and get out 9/10 times? You realize that those are People you’re going against right? So they need to have fun too.

I have to tunnel to win. There! I love it, I thrive in it. And I don’t want that right taken away from me because survivors constant yearn to be spoon fed basekit mechanics to make their lives easier. There’s already so much going on for survivors with these back to back basekit this basekit that updates. You’ll live.

You mean base kit mechanics like brutal strength and stbfl added in 6.1? what have survivors gotten base kit besides bt? Killers dont understand that tunneling makes newer people not want to play which is stopping dbd from growing. The sad part is they dont even need to tunnel every killer main who actually knows how to play killer dosent need to tunnel at 5 gens its just bhvr holding bad killers hands. Serious question are you new to the game and just started playing? If so i can understand why you have the opinion you do.

Oh so you want them to make the game not playable with friends.... LOL yea sorry that's the fastest way a game will die imagine buying a multiplayer game and not being able to play it with friends. player base 32k to 1k in 1 day. No offense but this is killer main never plays survivor logic.

DS does not need a buff, it shouldn’t be a sure 100% guaranteed escape from a tunnel like it used to be. With its current version, strategic approaches is required to get value, like the location of your down and pick up, is it somewhere you can keep prolonging your next down after you proc DS? Taking your killer to a safe zone where after you DS stun them you can make it to a safe/god pallet. It shouldn’t be a free get out of jail ticket specially when Off the Record is already a thing, basekit BT along with its haste (a pain for 110% killers), Anti face camping ect… survivors have been spoon fed one too many times to deserve DS back to or close to its former glory, which was obviously problematic without say. Making it such a threat where killers are scared to pick survivors up again, counting the 60 seconds like before (which I still see people do) is just silly and makes killers look weak.

I would like to compare DS to Eruption, but my point has been made and you’re free to stop reading here. When Eruption was nerfed into the ground, completely changing it’s purpose which was to apply the very rare incapacitation effect that now is only applicable by Victor, killers have accepted the perk is rendered useless and moved on. Now imagine the last DS nerf changed the perk in a fashion similarly to Eruption, “60 seconds after you’re unhooked, if the killer picks you up hit this skill check and now your teammates can see the killer’s aura as they’re carrying you to the hook.” … that’ll be understandably a complete joke right?

I understand this post has no persuasion to the Devs decision, the buff is inevitably coming. I’m using discussions more as a way to get people talking and to express my thoughts and prayers. Good day.

Tell me you have to tunnel to win without telling me you have to tunnel to win.

Same reason why survivors complain about tunneling.

Neither side likes having the game end before they've completed their objective.

I have never seen a comment from survivor telling the killer to tunnel to stop gen rushing but I see killers telling survivors to gen rush to counter tunneling like you just did. The main reason for that is that the killer still gets gameplay even during gen rush the opposite isn't the same for survivor as the killer finds the weakest survivor tunneling them out and either making them quit the game or never gain any experience since its so easy to do. Is it optimal yes does it kill the game also yes thats why it needs to be fixed.

So why tell survivors to rush gens if you don't like it think that went over your head. Your advocating to gen rush but survivors don't advocate to tunnel.

  • @Crowman said:

The solution is survivors do gens while someone is being chased. Someone being tunneled out at 5 gens is the fault of the survivors, because it's already possible for 2-3 gens to be completed by the end of the first chase.

If that's the case then why do killers complain about gen rushing lol.

  • Slippery meat it literally does nothing. Oh and of course red herring.

Survivors weren't nerfed this patch iirc, and heck that invocation now applies a small BNP to every gen if used correctly.

That said, even I can't fathom why they wanna buff Huntress except they looked at her placement on the killrates and think she's under performing, or as someone else pointed out here, want to add basekit addons to the killer's kits so killers try more diverse builds instead of relying on the same addons to get anywhere.

Yea they weren't really buffed either in the last year either. I don't think survivors have got much since 6.1.0. The new invocation perk is kind of meh when you have to spend 2 minutes doing it everyone could just bring a bnp and then bang out gens instead. Its one of those perks bhvr wants you to think sounds great in theory but in practice is just mid. Like the new basement healing perk if it takes you 10 seconds to run to basement to use it then its really not as fast as you think it is its a placebo and is basically just self care with the risk of exposing yourself. Now if you can get to basement in 2 seconds its good but its just a situational perk and its probably better to just bring a strong medkit.

I get that, but ugh why, it will only make skilled huntress players unbearable to go against

Because bhvr likes making trouble for themselves. To be fair though there's not a lot of survivor mains on here some 50/50 and mostly killer mains so that's whose opinion they hear the most. Id like to think that most survivor mains just don't care about trying to win anymore and just try to get a few saves or nice chases then kill themselves off on hook because they know solo q is a nightmare or they I see a lot of people say they switched to killer because its on easy mode right now.. SWF on the other hand is pretty survivor sided so the killers swear they have to tunnel but hey in the wise words of Socrates "It Is What It Is."
