Yea these type of perks will either be useless or too strong. COH is still pretty great for group resets, but avg solo queue player doesn't think to heal really fast when 3+ are injured.
I think they need to be useful, removing them would make the overall gameplay more stale, it is already difficult to justify doing anything but the main objective. I know i have been hoping for something more than just gen repair as survivor gameplay for a long time, but if we nerf everything that is useful because it hurts the other side then this game will feel empty very quickly.
-
In my experience in soloQ, once you are noticed and the killer comes for you, you are not engaging in a "fun chase" as part of your gameplay, but rather you are fighting to not get erased from the match by tunneling right from the start. Which means putting as much distance between you and the killer as possible.
You dont want to engage in loops unless you have to or you know it is relatively safe to do so for a while. Hence shift-w.

It'll just be like 2nd hook I guess. Keep struggling…
if we removed the skillchecks I'm oikay with that, somehow the "gameplay" where one is hanging dry on a hook indefinitely but has to hit skillchecks seems stupid.
-
what happens with the survivor who would get their 3rd hook before the 9 hook limit is hit?

I actually feel the opposite. I wish we had more perks like Knockout.
I like slugging in design. It's a high risk/high reward play style to build pressure. While weaker against swf, nearly everything is weaker against swf. Nearly everything is stronger against solos. This is a losing fight. I like that slugging gives a different play style option.
While less effective, on average I do still find it works decently well even against swf. Many aren't on coms and many aren't good at that specific of callouts like I'm at 12 oclock. Maybe you'll be lucky in a spot to callout like shack or main building. I ran a slugging build quite regularly against many swf with good success, even if it's less success than solos.
I think slugging is unfairly discouraged. I would always rather be slugged than hooked. The hate for slugging is irrational. There is objectively more you can do on the ground than on the hook. So the statement people usually have of slugging is boring, is to me objectively untrue. On the hook you're literally doing nothing and anything is more fun than nothing.Slugging also gives me a second chance at life.
This isn't even getting into the myriad of anti slug perks that exist.
The question isn't if it's more effective against solos than swf, the question is if it's too strong against solos. The game is balanced around solos. Is Knockout too strong against solos? I'd say no.
I'd say your suggestions are what others would call griefing.

Does this mean skill check perks like merciless storm shouldn't work on doctor
an excellent suggestion
-
pickrate should not be a reason to nerf perks. Buffing them based on pickrate, sure, make unused ones useful.
if you have problem with WoO bring blindess into the match.
-
just give her the trapper's toolkit, make her the female trapper, and call it a day
-
i love the off-meta perks for fun, especially perks that mislead and deceive. So i'd like to see Light Weight, Boil over, distraction, and red herring, and deception buffed.
Maybe boil over not so much, as much as I loved it to have a strong effect, killers seem to hate it though.
Light weight could spread your tracks a bit more, distraction for a shorter charge up time, red herring for a shorter cooldown, and deception should give you a short burst of speed to allow you to get out of sight if you managed to trigger it on a locker around the corner.

I'm surprised to see that people didn't really hear a week or two ago that momoseventh, a comp player that mains blight, lost a 1947 game winstreak to a team running 4 OTR and 3 DS. The perk is absolutely meta even against S tiers, and if comp didn't enforce unique perks on survivors you would see it on everyone or nearly everyone in scrims. It's super strong.
I record my games on nightlight and decisive strike is the 10th most popular survivor perk that I run into when I play killer. That's for a reason - it's really good! This is at higher mmr though, I'm a p100 blight main so my games are against the strongest survivors matchmaking is willing to give me, which is not saying much lol. In my survivor games I've been playing with brand new friends and DS is definitely not a popular pick in low mmr
so the take away here is not that a 1947 win streak is outrageous, but that ds is so strong. cool.

the same statement was made by the best most well-known players in the competitive/content creating community. The statement simply implies that there’s a skill difference between players and the players at a higher mmr or overall understanding of the game have a better understanding of how to get value from the perk compared to the lower mmr survivors. Which isn’t a bad thing it’s just real life but it shows that buffing it in the sake of the lower mmr survivors will only make it more abusable by the higher ones. Hopes this explanation suited you well enough that you didn’t choose to stop reading not even half way in, I understand reading things you don’t agree with isn’t the easiest but it’s the way to find communicate and hopefully find common ground
let's settle to disagree. The points you have brought up come out of thin air and does not match my experience with this game, or the streamers i had occasionally watched playing. I also don't like arguing with people who pretend to have a good point but all they have laid out are logical traps to derail every other point about the topic at hand.
-

The devs can barely get killer powers, map textures, & object collision to work on flat maps and now you're asking for more elevation? You might as well just have them killswitch every map in the game at that point, because they'll all be busted for months straight.

You have to admit, it is funny to imagine the blight stumbling down the hillside towards the other end of the map after a missed turn

During which time though the killer is heavily slowed, so dodging the projectile by going to the side keeps you at about the same distance you would be if you both just held w.
I'm not sure if this is entirely true, as opposed to just handwaving from someone trying to downplay its effects
-
He can spawn pallets in place of the ones he has destroyed still
-
@Reinami said:
In regards to your first part about how you can't look and dodge. How do you play against huntress, pyramid head, deathslinger and trickster? Do you just yolo it and not look behind you? Functionally they are the same in that regard, but the difference is that the unknown has to hit you twice. Compared to those though, the unknowns projectile is quite slow and easy to dodge when you see it coming. It is however harder to dodge when you can't see it coming, which is part of the point of the power.
As for the teleport powers, yeah the unknown's teleport is really good, but its also not easy to set your teleports exactly where you want to go. Freddy teleports directly to gens which is very strong (and honestly his only power at this point) and demo can choose specifically where to set the teleports, and doesn't have to wait for some difficult determined time to set another portal.
In short, different killers are gonna be different. There are positives and negatives to every killer, even as you mentioned.
I think he meant that it is not enough to dodge the projectile, you have to dodge a relatively large AOE blast that follows, which means you have to cover a longer distance sideways, and this reduces your distance to the killer (because you are running in a slanted direction as opposed to directly away from him). For the others you "only" have to dodge the projectile itself, and not run in a perpendicular direction for a long time.

New players who play with other new players will learn the game just fine. It's when you pair up with your less than 10 hour friends getting a killer with over 1000 hours then wondering why your 10 hour friends are not enjoying the game.
Pretty much any online pvp game, you need to be playing against people of your own skill level. Random people you match with are not going to go easy, because you are trying to introduce your friends to a game. If you want to play with them, find a way to do customs until they get better.
this might be an accurate description of the current state of the game, but it is by no means desirable

But the problem you have is not with the killer, it is with the developers for allowing the tactic to exist. Personally i would love it if they rebalanced the game around hooks and chases instead of kills. But that would mean eliminating tunneling and camping, but also they need to slow down survivors in some way. The point though is people need to stop looking at people using tactics to win. If you don't like those tactics your anger is misplaced.
Yes the game balance is on the developers, but your opinion is a bit strange as well - saying they need to slow down the game in exchange seems to suggest you still don't want survivors to have a reasonable chance, you would only be okay with a different timeline that leads to their loss.
-
@Crowman said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674997#Comment_3674997
I never said anything about being chased indefinitely. You don't need to run the killer for 5 full gens. You just need to buy enough time that your allies can make significant progress.
If the killer outplays you at tiles and gets you down quickly, they simply played better. The game is not nearly as dire as you guys like to make it out to be.
What i said above should have been clear enough. The current meta and the most recent map and perk changes do not allow this in the majority of cases. You can say it is a "skill issue" because what we have now can be comfortable from your perspective, but it seems kind of condescending (and ignores the problem).

this is nitpicking, the player cannot select whose incompetence or malice they wish to suffer, all they are facing is the end result. Furthermore, if your point is that killers should always have a comfortable way to 4K with some effort (because they either have to tunnel to get there, or the game needs to last long enough to make it possible), then you are not looking for solutions.
So let me spell it out, tunneling and camping from the victim's proint of view removes their fair chance to feel victorious. To escape. If you are only fine with changes if survivors still dont have a fair chance, then your opinion reflects something else. This means to have a reasonable chance for any survivor to escape in the end. Following your suggestion to rebalance the game to a point where survivors still certainly die without tunneling is not desirable by anyone, and it is not a change anyone asks for. Also, i doubt that devs needs to pander to this particular mindset where "they need to do this before they do that", .. because why? you said so?
-
@Crowman said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674926#Comment_3674926
Tunneling can be countered by making chases take too long to be worth it.
Camping can be countered by hook trading close to the end of the current hook stage.
They aren't infallible strategies, but too many survivors don't know how to properly deal with them.
I would go so far as you don't know either. You can only prolong a chase against a killer that you can easily survive anyway (ie baby killers). With the recent changes and map updates, you cannot escape a competent killer indefinitely, if they want to tunnel you out of the game, for the majority of survivor players especially in soloQ means they will tunnel you out of the game.
Yes in an ideal world you can use it to buy time. But BHVR made sure it is no longer the case.
-
How would you know if something happened following your reports within just a few days? Normally you get a notification about action done following a report when you launch the game. In my experience it takes weeks or months for such a prompt to show up.
BTW how do you know they targeted you because of a charm? Did they tell you specifically?

@Reinami said:

Tunneling isn't "toxic" it is playing to win. The game doesn't define rules that say you can't tunnel, thus it is fair game.
maybe the killer player does not do so with malice, but the effect is the same for the tunneled survivor, their game experience is ruined, and the outcome is no different when done with toxic intent or without. From the survivor's point of view it is toxic.

also sometimes its not just because there mad sometimes they might be trying to get a certain type of content and that killer may make it hard like if they are running lightborn and they are trying to get flash save content.
surely, but what do you think follows from this complaint(?).
Should bhvr police their own games more thoroughly? They are the ones who have implemented the means to throw a game, like the leave game button, the attempt to unhook, and the requirement to hit skill checks (and thus the option to miss those) to stay alive.
Do you think people who are (select your answer) [ ] frustrated / [ ] griefing / [ ] entitled / [ ] vengeful or evil / [ ] quitting to save time / [ ] fed up with the match or teammates / [ ] don't like the killer character or playstyle will reconsider when they are forced to stay in the match? Maybe some of their reasoning is in fact a legit complaint from players and maybe the devs could focus some effort on the QoL issues to remedy this situation.
One thing is certain, lecturing people and complaining about them on these forum threads might be a good way to vent your frustration, but I am not convinced it does anything else. Don't get me wrong forum dwellers of a pvp game will always look for any kind of validation for their opinions especailly if they can portay themselves as the morally "bigger person", and as any natural human need it is great we have forums to get just that. But it will definitely not make survivors in general want to stay longer in matches they leave early otherwise.
BTW hook stage two is so absurd. Just give me an option in settings to turn those hook skillchecks off. Maybe i just want to alt-tab to youtube while someone comes to save me and not sit there hit space now and then. This is the most mind-numbingly dull part of the entire gameplay loop, that and bleeding out on the ground.

If they don't like being in a multi-player game then they shouldn't play the game.
It would be different if it was a rare occurrence, but it's not. People leave matches simply because they got downed which is part of normal gameplay.
of course, yes; but this line of argument is wishful thinking. Players like this will play the game, will get triggered due to some reason, and act like that - maybe act like that in the next/successive matches.
Saying they should do or feel this and that is a very commendable (and probably gratifying) moral highground, but it is also a display of being somewhat blind towards the realities of this community.

That sounds more like a general killer problem then a sadako problem.
absolutely, but it will not help in general when facing her to become more adept at countering her.
In general if people play her oppressively, then people will quit those matches quickly one way or the other, conducive to being clueless about her.
-
Maybe people don't like the in-game fantasy he represents. His lore is just a phsycho guy with a lot of throwing knives. That's about as deep as SM's. It's more of a thriller story than a horror one.
-
so i just had the misfortune of playing against a sadako, and for some weird reason i did not dc immediately, i wanted to play normally.
What we got is a sweaty toxic piece of #########, who brought all the stupid gen regression perks (grim embrance, jolt, pain resonance, sloppy), then tunneled the first survivor out of the game at 5 gens, 3hooks back to back.
Then killed the 2nd, then slugged for the 4k.
Somehow this should have been "fun". This was just stupid. Her powers are way too easy to use and does not hinder her to apply her debuff. It does not matter if you escape condemned by playing the tapes right, if she will end the game at 5 gens tunneling people out faster than you can complete your objectives.

At this point the should remove the ability to self un-hook unless you're running a perk that allows it and remove the struggle option from second phase. They're both outdated mechanics anyways and more often than not serve as a way to avoid the DC penalty while still ruining the game for everyone else.
I wonder how forcing people to stay in a match they clearly don't want to will make them respond in-game. Surely they will see the error of their ways, get it together and start playing per this threads expectations.

For the first 6-7 years of this games life, it was HEAVILY favored the survivor side. We're finally seeing things go slightly in the killers favor, and we finally hit the 60/40 kill rate the game should have ALWAYS had, and all the sudden the survivors are in revolt. Forgive me for not taking most of the complaints seriously

This is the perfect answer to all the complaints about tunneling
Sometimes I think survivors truly believe that everytime they get hooked, they automatically deserve a free reset as soon as their unhooked.
interestingly your argument is much more forgiving towards the killer side regarding what they deserve and what not
-
The moment i hear her music in the match my face goes MEHH. And I throw the mouse for a good minute to contemplate how utterly stupid this match is gonna be. And I have no intention to take part in it.

the saved survivor spawns at a random location far away from the hook, something like the winter rift system was
-
boil over is a pretty weak perk and most of the time you get no value out of it, in this respect, it should be buffed if anything.
