But why are you and OP pretending that the question was about why they decided to change the Twins? The question was specifically about the slugging element of the Twins changes, it's not about the killer update as a whole. Sure, survivors like slugging less, but that doesn't actually mean anything about the Twins update as a whole and it's worth pointing out that killers also don't like how slug-heavy the Twins are.

Plus, again, I have to point it out a second time, they've been working on this update for over a year. We know they've been looking at Twins for quite a long time at this point, they haven't been ignoring anything.

Tbh I highly doubt they've been working on this for over a year. They entirely reworked Skull Merchant in less than a few months and they said Twins changes were coming...who knows how long ago. Not to mention them blatantly ignoring Twins bugs, some of which were gamebreaking for the killers. So yeah its understandable why people don't have hopes for the Twins rework or thing BHVR only addresses survivor issues (because they flat out have)

  • @jesterkind said:

    ...Eh?

Isn't it pretty commonly stated that people don't like playing Twins because they don't like feeling forced into slugging as often as they kinda have to in order to utilise that kit properly? Wouldn't BHVR pretty obviously also be replacing that need to slug with other options, thus improving the killer experience substantially?

Also, what're you on about by saying they "don't care" about Twins being bugged, too? This question wasn't about that, and we already know they've been working on the Twins update for over a year now. Every killer update so far has had bug fixes in it too, if I remember correctly, and there's no way on this earth the most bugged killer in the game won't have at least some of those bugs addressed in their update.

This is a giant reach, you're taking a question very specifically about just the slugging aspect of the Twins update and you're trying to make it sound like slugging is the only thing being addressed and the only reason for the update.

"This isn't a very fun playstyle for survivors as you end up spending a lot of time on the ground not able to do anything" This isn't about killers not liking how the twins play its about survivors not liking how the twins play and they flat out stated it in their answer + twins have been plagued with horrible bugs since release and BHVR completely has ignored pretty much all of them, only nerfing Twins over and over and over.

Why are they not supposed to to that when it’s literally the intended way of family sharing?

I don't think game companies endorse someone never buying a game or dlc but using the game or dlc for free. I don't have a problem with it but to complain to BHVR about it is weird to me because its obvious they wouldn't fix it even if they could

    Wrong.

If both accounts have the game, dlcs won't be shared. But you can share game + dlcs with account if they don't have the game.

Oh...oh well you're not even supposed to be doing that in the first place so I don't think BHVR will care too much

People said same thing for Nic Cage and Alien chapters too: Hey if you don't wanna buy bundle, just buy in the game store.

But question is that: What if i don't wanna use in game store? Buying chapter from platform is giving you option for family share. And i love to have them on my Steam library. And removing single chapters and forcing people to buy packs is just bad decision.

If you disagree, that's fine. But this does not make this change good for me. Thankfully i am already have all chapters.

Steam removed family sharing for DLC ages ago so this isn't a problem regardless

And I can tell you what your play is. Reverse the rotation. If drone is still somewhat near the loop, then the beam moves too slow for the survivor to keep on running but it's too fast for them to just crouch underneath. Even if they do manage not to get scanned, the crouching will take a while and you'll easily get the hit.

Depending on how close the survivor is to the drone you can adjust the rotation and force either lock on stacks or hits. That's the problem with this killer.

Her rotation has a cool down to it and in order to pull something like this off you'd need to know the timing of how to do it without it over shooting

    ”iTs GiViNg sEcOnD hAnD eMbArReSsmEnT”

    1) I couldn’t care less.

    2) That’s a fallacy, “well it MUST mean either this or this”. Actually no, it’s neither of those. The killer is absolutely miserable and nobody, literally NOBODY wants to play against her. If you enjoy playing her, or against her, you are in the overwhelmingly small minority.

    3) This isn’t about “knowing” how to play against her. She’s a predrop and hold w killer. It’s not hard. But it’s absolutely brainless and miserable. I’m CHOOSING not to play against her. It’s a waste of time. I have never once had an enjoyable game against her, so why shouldn’t we just go next?

Okay again proving my point. And "THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY HATE HER!" I've literally never had someone insta dc when I play her and shes the only killer I even play besides Tiffany occasionally but that aside, I don't care that you hate her because everyone else does its still embarrassing to see someone so bravely admit to being bad against a killer and not knowing how to counter one (whos already been nerfed 20x over even when she was a purely M1 killer).

And again its so funny because just like when she could actually hold a 3 gen (She cant now and saying she can is showing again your inexperience against her) the complaints about her apply to several other killers as well yet shes the only one who is vocally complained about so yes again its about you not knowing how to play against her and just raging because instead of learning how she works and whats best to counter her you just say shes OP and leave it at that.

Also it does prove both of those because current skull merchant literally cannot hold a 3 gen against half decent survivors who know what they're doing and if you're still trying to 3 gen as Skull Merchant that shows that that Skull Merchant is a noob who doesn't understand how her new power works and if youre constantly dying to that scenario then thats like me complaining Huntress is OP because I pre drop pallets while shes readying a hatchet

TL;DR version: 2nd hand embarrassment is even worse now

  • @HugTechLover said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3607007#Comment_3607007

There is no “learning to play against her”.

She drops a drone at the loop, and

You hold w, you get hit.

    or

You stay, drone injures you, hinders you, deep wounds you, and hastens her. You go down.

    or

She uses her drones to hold a 3 gen, which also gives her the best stealth in the game.

There is no skill. No meaningful interaction. No REASON to play against her. She’s by far the most hated and miserable killer in DBD, for a good reason.

No thanks… I think I’ll continue to “forget” how to play survivor. I’m not going to waste my time playing against a killer like Dull Merchant.

This is actually giving me 2nd hand embarrassment reading especially the 'She holds a 3 gen' because it shows you either

    A. Have no idea how to play against her and are getting stomped by noob skull merchants

    or

    B. you're just lying for upvotes on dbd forums which itself is kinda sad😭

  • You: people playing in a SWF will always grant an inherent major advantage because even if they're not trying to be a comp team they still have large amounts of communication which otherwise isn't available to other survivors without several perks. Being in a SWF allows survivors to never need aura perks as well as have co-ordination and strategy which just isn't available to other players regardless.

Everyone in these comments: So you want people to never be able to play with their friends?! NOT EVERY TEAM IS A COMP SWF BEING IN A 2-4 MAN SWF HAS NO ADVANTAGES IF THE TEAM ISNT PLAYING A COMP TEAM!!!!!!!

Like its common sense even a 2 man swf and 2 solos has an insane advantage over 4 solos and again even if they're not playing to be sweaty, being able to communicate the killers exact location, what objective you're doing, what actions you're going to take throughout a match is an insanely huge advantage and ignoring that is so silly

  • Yeah BHVR seems to like the idea of 'Everything needs to be weak so that way its balanced!' so instead of buffing weak things to be on par, they absolutely gut any strong perks. (edit: also for sales. BHVR keeping all the perks weak makes it so when a new shiny good perk comes along, everyone rushes to buy it before they gut it just in time for the next few chapters to have some crazy strong perk rinse and repeat)

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3605211#Comment_3605211

There's a combination of two things happening here.

The first is that there are better general-pool perks than you're giving credit for, on both sides and especially for beginners. Survivors have Deja Vu, Hope, Kindred, Resilience, and We'll Make It, all of which are good and strong perks for everyone and definitely serviceable for beginners. Killers have Bitter Murmur, NOED, Iron Grasp, Sloppy Butcher, Spies from the Shadows, and Whispers, most of which are more beginner perks than useful ones for everyone else but are still perfectly serviceable.

The second is that people are responding to what new players ACTUALLY have access to, not just the general pool. Remember that the survivor side, for new players, also has access to Bond, Botany Knowledge, Empathy, Sprint Burst, Adrenaline, Iron Will, and a handful of other very strong perks. Sure, they'll have to pick one survivor to start with, but there's a high chance their starting survivor has good stuff and it's pretty trivial to level up two characters at once to get more stuff. Killers have a little less, I'll grant you, but there's still some interesting stuff and the power + interest in that role tends to come from powers more than perks anyway.

The beginner pool of available perks is mostly fine. I'm not against expanding it and I think this game has other issues with onboarding, but the available perks are not in a dire spot just because it doesn't contain the ST perks anymore.

How is it trivial to get more stuff...mind you Deja Vu is only really good with actual experienced players same with hope, resilience is okay but again only good with experienced players, and We'll Make It again not good with new players since most new killers tend to camp and most new survivors don't go for heals straight after an unhook (trust I've been playing with new players almost exclusively since switching to PC).

Beyond that I don't see how you don't have a problem with 9 perks being removed from the base pool, 7 of which are actually pretty good, and the other 2 being okay, but most of all they're pretty simplistic perks which actually help newcomers far more than most of the general perk pool.

"But the teachables survivors have!!!!" are locked behind a survivor...like they can pick Meg or Claudette and if they don't then they're just left with some of the worst perks in the game besides Prove Thyself and Dead Hard one of which is only good with experienced players again. So what do survivors REALLY have? Mind you I actually am playing as someone technically who would've just bought the game and there's really nothing for either side to have fun and experiment with when it comes to base game. 609 hours on PC and I have maybe like a handful of good perks on killer side and little to nothing on survivor side because survivors just have no good perks generally and it gets worse with general perks being as trash as they are so I tend to stay far away from PC survivor unless my sister is playing on PC too

  • Blame BHVR they forced her to be this way because they gutted any and all other playstyles for her lol.

  • Everyone here is being absolutely delusional for thinking beginners have any good perks outside of the ST perks lol. "Why would beginners struggle without good perks like Surge, Inner Strength, and renewal when they have perks like spine chill, premonition, and this is not happening!"

Like do you guys not remember when we were new and there was little to nothing for survivors to use? Because I'll tell you I recently switched to PC and its been hell, I don't even want to play survivor because I can't really play my mains (Maria, Ada, Yun-Jin, and Kate) Because amongst them theres no real good perks besides Kate's and thats a huge problem. I would have to buy at least like 5-6 survivors and level them all up to P1 just to get a perk I want or that is reletively good, and thats a problem they don't want to admit :/

BHVR NEEDS to add more general perks for killers AND survivors because as is the general perks for both beyond like 2 exceptions (resilience and NOED) are just trash all around

She destroyed the franchise. As far as I'm concerned, Andy threw Chucky into the giant fan at the end of Child's Play 3 and was never seen again. I love the Child's Play Trilogy but hate with a passion everything that came after. Ugh. I really want the badge 😫

Shes the only good thing that franchise has left calm yourself

  • I mean recently I started insta-dcing against any legion I come across. People do it so much with SM so I figured might as well join the train lol.

Seriously Legion is the worst and most unfun killer in this game atm and I will stand on that, hes not even hard just unbelievably annoyingly unfun id rather be banned for hours than play a legion

this might be a bit wild thought for you, but it's fine if devs kill perks, because they're just perks, not actual characters with abilities people get invested in and buy skins for.

if a perk is unhealthy and there's no fixing it without a really deep rework, it's better off dead or nerfed so hard, it's unviable, rather than kept because "muh muh we cant just kill perks". no, we can and we will, because people will just pick other perks that might be just a bit more healthier for the game.

Other perks like...the already insanely broken and overused meta...fun...

What is there to learn to play against?

I have an 80% +- winrate vs her and I still can understand why so many people elect to go next vs her.

It's mind numbing, binary, and tedious to play against her no matter the skill level. She's easily on par with legion but at least legion wins the subjective departments of looking cool and having cool chase music.

I get that you like her but she's just not liked. Which shouldn't matter anyways since survivor's opinion on your killer of choice should be a nonfactor. Just play bots.

Its really just a matter of 'content creators blamed her for a problem that wasn't her fault then it became cool to hate her so now people don't stop'.

The last part is very true. There is just no way to buff some Perks to an extend that they can rival the strongest Perks. At least if they should keep their intial function.

And I am also not really for nerfing Perks so that they are meaningless. There should be strong Perks, it should feel good to equip Perks. Sure, the Devs could bring every Perk down to a level that they only add very minor benefits, but this is not it.

But it does not really help that the Devs are super-careful with Perks. A good example is Any Means Necessary. When it released, it got called OP by Killer Mains, in reality, it has been bad since the beginning (simply because it almost never happens that a strong Pallet will be left unbroken). If we look at the history:

    • 1st Buff --> Lowering the Cooldown
    • 2nd Buff --> Seeing the Aura of dropped Pallets
    • 3rd Buff -->Removal of Cooldown

There is basically nothing they can do at this point to make AMN good, because the only thing left is the time to set up a Pallet, but this cannot really be changed, because otherwise Survivors would be able to stun the Killer and set up the Pallet during the Stun animation.

The only thing the Devs can try is to buff Perks in basically every Patch and see how it plays out. If it is too strong, they need to nerf it again. But most of them will probably be still not good enough. But they have to try if they want to get other Perks into the Loadouts of Players.

AMN Is pretty good when good survivors use it. Some pallets are better dropped and unbroken than they are standing upright for the killer (especially maps like Hawkins) so bringing them back up is insanely useful.

  • @jesterkind said:

I've yet to try myself, or go against it either, but I don't see why this'd be much worse than any killer with a threatening power doing the same thing.

What was it about Skull Merchant's power specifically that seemed more potent than most others for this experiment, who else did you try it with?

people cant play the game really. Its that simple. Look at this thread and how many people are crying and saying they insta dc or insta go next. They dont bother learning to play against her then complain about her because they never took the time to try and learn how.

  • This is insane. People actually acknowledging the problem wasn't SM its been gen spawns and that several killers have this same 3 gen potential? Astonishing.

  • @TheycallmeLix said:

Don’t care if it’s Chase merchant or any other merchant, I’m not gonna bother playing against her. And then she does that cringe humptech cuz ‘WhY dOeS nObOdY wAnNa PlAy AgAiNsT mE’ and everyone knows how boring she is to go against

because youre bad and refuse to get better lol

  • Currently its Hag by a long shot even if she herself is borderline F tier now. She has always had probably the best add ons in the entire game with no real standouts besides mint rag rusty shackles but even then they dont make her like SUPER OP SHE CAN NEVER BE BEATEN they just make her much stronger which is normal for an ultra rare + very rare add on combo.

I also think old Skull Merchant fit this well as well. Current Skull Merchant only has a few good add ons but old one had so many good ones that could change how she plays in all sorts of ways.

  • I have been wanting a corpse party x DBD chapter for so long I even made a whole concept for it!

  • Well, you all know my hot take that Skull Merchant was never the issue and was always fine

vital targeting predecessor is kinda good. in comparison, the randomised strobes is not very good however both add-on do have synergy. If I was improve strobes to make it more distinct add-on, I would make it so that being scanned by drone gives 1.5 lock stacks instead of 1 lock-on stack.

adaptive lightning is decent when paired with low power power mode. it gives her decent stealth.

I think most of her add-on are all very usable. if there was any small adjustment to her that would be nice. I would like them to change 3 of her add-on's.

Supersonic increases Extends the Battery life of Claw Traps by +15 % -> 25%.

Expired Battery increases strength of haste of survivor tracked by 25%, reduced the claw trap battery life from 50% -> 25%.

High Current Upgrade: Increases duration of tracked survivors by 1 second -> 5 seconds.

these add-on look like they should have good effects but their number are a bit off. her add-on list is scales very good and reminds very much of plague's add-on list where everything has purpose and can be used in creative ways.

i think adding 1.5 lockdown would be a bit OP but about the synergy, I don’t feel that I should need a purple and green add on to make my power useful. I’m not saying they should be base kit, just that for two add ons to only be good with each other kinda just sucks.

and again same thing with adaptive lighting. The add on shouldnt need so much for it to be useful because the effect itself isn’t all that strong.

Theres a lot of reasons why I play this game barely even once a week now

    1. Toxicity - My number one reason. Every killer tunnel camps and head nods while every survivor just tea bags and flashlight clicks it makes losing feel so painful to the point I hate even trying out new killers. I havent touched Xeno outside of 2 games because they're just so insanely unfun since unless I can 4k I just know the survivors will treat me like trash
    2. Killer nerfs - They've nerfed every single killer I enjoy to the point of making them trash. Skull Merchant, Hag, Spirit, no killers are around atm that I find fun and the ones I find fun are weak as hell which I wouldn't mind if Reason 1 didn't exist.
    3. Aesthetic - Nothing in DBD has been interesting to me. I like to be immersed and sometimes when Im in the mood I like creating stories in my head. I LOVE TCM for this very reason its very easy to immerse yourself in it and play it like a horror movie but DBD its near impossible to do so because the game revolves around silly chase + the maps are hideous and unimmersive.
    4. Lack of interesting content - I hate sci fi horror. Truly. Its not horror to me and its boring as hell that coupled with how UGLY all the sci fi chapters we've been getting are (Toba landing, Nostromo crash site, and really the entire End Of Transmission chapter tbh)

I wanna add this. Spirit isn't bad per say. Solid B-A tier but i can't practice with the new Spirit because if I try I lose and in other games this is fine but in DBD its so painful because EVERY opponent rubs salt in the wounds no matter how you play.

(Most 😅) of the female characters are small, some even very small like Nancy.

    This gives the benefit of:

    • Perhaps the biggest benefit - the illusion of a smaller hitbox. The illusion can cause killers to not go for a close call swing since they think they wouldn't get the hit.
    • Since they're small it is easier to hide with them.
    • If you're chasing a chonky male survivor like David with a big Jacket (as an extreme example), he's going to be visible for longer when going around a corner in a loop. As a female, your character model disappears around corners faster in comparison to males, simply due to the size difference. This means females can be harder to track in a chase.
    • From a survivor players POV, a chonky male survivor takes up more of your screen. This makes it feel as if you have a smaller FOV. As a small female you can technically see more of your surroundings, even though you do not have a bigger FOV. For me, the difference is massive. It feels much nicer playing as a female character for this benefit alone.

Wasn't it confirmed survivors did actually have small differences in hitboxes but it wasn't said which was which?

  • I play survivors I think are pretty, cunty, serve, or slay or those I can relate to/have styles that resonate with me.

I main Maria because she is ALL of the above, before her I mained Ada because she is pretty, cunty, serves, and slays (same with yun-jin).

Id say the 5 survivors I play most are Maria, Ada, Kate, Feng, Yun-Jin fs because they all fit the categories above and statistically men CANNOT be pretty, cunty, serve, or slay. The only male character in gaming who fits this category is painter from Identity V he serves but thats where that train ends.

So unless the men have different abilities (I main Bo Rai'Cho, Shao Kahn, and Mileena in Mortal Kombat) then I have no reason to ever pick them

  • Skins are selling more than ever so the "Skins no one wants" argument is null. Hell I've bought more skins in the past 6 months than I have in the past year because the cosmetic department finally upped their game but ######### FOMO tactics. I cant believe BHVR haven't realized how horrible limited time cosmetics are from a business standpoint

  • A. The showing radius thing isnt a bug its intended

    B. Even without it her power is beyond useless with how many limitations she has, the extremely small radius of her drones, the insane amount of punishment she gets for using her power correctly, and the beyond useless function of her power in general

    C. Even if they were to buff her to oblivion shed still be unfun to play as. She has 0 agency in her power whats so ever and its entirely reliant on survivor mistakes. "Wow I get to M1 chase survivors and they get randomly injured by stuff entirely outside of my control SO FUN!!!"

There was so many non rework options they couldve done and they chose the worst one which isolates most her playerbase essentially just doing Freddy again but worse

I mean with the change you came up with.

If you have a 5m zone around gens where no drone can be... Yeah good luck in putting them up for chase on a 2 floor map where the Gen on the other level would block you using a drone.

I appreciate that you play SM chase oriented and I also know very well how it is like to have a favourite killer gutted, but the majority of the player base played her like a game of chess, so it had to go.

BTW said killer was Freddy for me. I am talking about the Forever Freddy time. I never played like this and they still nerfed him because 90% of the people did this. I had to deal with it too. And yes I'm happy they did it, even though I had to wait years to have another Main.

yeah this whole 'majority played her like 3 gens!' lie is getting so old. Ive encountered literally 2 3 gen skull merchants like please be so fr

  • I do great on both lol esp with my anti heal build (Which is now impossible and was removed with her rework because skill expression and playing a killer in multiple different ways is bad to BHVR!)

"As a hag main" and you still don't know that putting trap is faster than wiping it.

To the facecamp mechanic. I think it's going better way as I've been noticed in PTB. Basement Bubba isn't going away either. They now just stand outside of basement.

Skull Merchant. Now I give her new chance when obnoxious 3 gen is gone.

Yeah I dropped her when they released the nerf im not going to play a killer whos entire existence is just to get punked around by survivors with half a brain.

Flashlights were really good against Hag, I would not call it a nerf. You could delete 20+ traps with a flashlight, even mid chase, you underestimate how much impact they had.

No as a Hag main I knew very well the impact they had but making it so everybody can just wipe away a trap quicker than you can set them wasn't the way to go. "You could delete 20+ with a flashlight!" You can delete an infinite amount now so?

Your idea would also be trash in small maps or maps with 2 floors because as was said before you would create 90% no-fly zones.

It wouldn't come anywhere close to '90% no fly zones' considering most drones I place dont even cover a gen but alright. a survivor only needs 2 meters of space to work on a gen so make it 2 then idc or just make the drones radius go AROUND generators so it doesn't cover them. Better solutions than gutting her in every aspect then rebranding it as a 'chase rework'

  • Its part of a new system I think where they just dumb everything down. New SM is much more dumbed down version of old one if you play her as chase merchant, new Sadako is a much more dumbed down version of old Sadako, Hag had to be nerfed because new players just couldn't figure out to crouch or use flashlights on her traps, they clearly don't want anything to be too 'hard' on players so they're focusing on making everything so simple a 5 year old can play idk why

Hey, I survived what... 2 years without a proper Killer I could main?

    Wesker saved me.

I'm not that strong and given how this community is Im sure we'll literally never see an area denial/control killer again let alone a girl one who has a good design :/

Fine for you that you never 3-genned. But 90% of the other SM players did so. And thats exactly the reason for the "hate band waggon", as you call it. Blame the other SM players that played 3-gen with her all the time, THEY are the reason for this rework!

it was definitely no where close to 90%. Ill thank the content creators who all blew up and popularized playing her that way (despite yk SEVERAL other killers having her same 3 gen potential because at the end of the day shes literally an M1 killer)

Maybe just wait out the PTB first, play it, try out the new mechanics, and then give constructive criticism? IDK just an idea 🤷

I for one, love that she is becoming more chase-based from the sounds of it. Considering that is the most fun aspect of the game and not staring at gens repeatedly. Unless they put a picture of Michael on the gens, then I wouldn't mind the staring.

So just because shes chase orientated means she needs to be 10000x worse? Got it

  • @Spirit_IsTheBest said:

Already complaining that they "gutted" her?

Her changes haven't even been released to the PTB yet.

Wait until you actually play her.

Dont need to play her to understand these mechanics. She cant turn drones on meaning she cant shut down areas, if a drone becomes inactive a survivor needs 4 stacks of lockdown (1 to wake the drone up, then the normal 3), as is the beams are already EXTREMELY easy to avoid meaning your power is now entirely in the survivors hands and relies solely on survivors messing up and not your own skill in chase, agency no matter what has been removed from skull merchant and using her drones effectively in chase now just boils down to guessing and hoping the survivor is horrible at the game

  • @JPLongstreet said:

Prolly a case of the 3% or so SM players that didn't play her as a 3-genner only seeing their killer being gutted and flayed. I'd say that other 97% made this happen.

Too soon to tell though, we shall see.

Its unironically the other way around lol
