Then how come this game has survived for 7 years if they’re “bad at gameplay design” if they were really bad at balancing and gameplay this game would have died years ago.

    No competition + licenses.

Devs know that Nerfing Nurse (and Blight) without reducing the power of good SWFs will result in major backlash that will probably tank their killer main population. They won’t touch SWF because, even for the sake of balance, players will view it as a punishment for playing with friends.

If they won’t balance the game around the strongest players on one side, then they really can’t do the same for the other and not be accused of being biased. One may argue that SWF isn’t a problem because the sweaty swat squads are few in number, which is a fair argument, then the same can be said for Nurse (and Blight), since the really good players who can maximize their potential are few in number and thus, aren’t really much of a problem in the grand scheme of things.

    Good point, my friend!

I've always thought of SWF as an unsolvable problem. Players are doing nothing wrong, they are just playing with their friends, but DBD is (...was? I don't know how things currently are) built around a certain lack of information. That is why we have perks like Alert and Premonition, which gives players limited amounts of information, and the reason why the old OoO had a dangerous drawback. Using comms gives a huge advantage, where it shouldn't.

But I don't think anything can be done about it. Playing as an extremely sweaty Nurse/Blight is also a huge advantage, but there is no altering one without touching the other.

And the players caught in the crossfire? Well, they just suffer.

Such is the way of things.

That's also what I like the most when I verse the Nurse. If she's good I'm very happy to last for a while.

I just had another match a bit like the one that made me post this.

The Leon was very good at dodging me and after the first hook, I've only slugged them. They all lost about 50% of life in a slug state yet ...

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/5NM5HDH3AJPG/20230722171352-1.jpg

Ah, they had fun! Good, very very good.

It is what matters most, after all.

  • I had fun playing against Nurse, to be honest. I liked the challenge.

And if the match was clearly a stomp, then I liked to see how many blinks in a row I could dodge. Sometimes I even managed to dodge all 5.

  • I heard something about him getting nerfed, a while back. That is probably the reason.

You ask why people are defending, but I think the better question is what proof does any have that's it needs nerfed?

I've yet to see anyone with any actual proof this perk is broken.

But... Here's the best reason not to nerf it.

People bought Gabriel Soma with real cash for that perk specifically. BHVR nerfing that perk into oblivion, like they did with CoH, will cause customers to lose more and more faith in BHVR which in turn will cause players to stop purchasing new content from BHVR because people will know BHVR has a pattern of bait-and-switching perks from being good to being absolutely trash.

If BHVR wants to alienate 4/5ths of it's entire player base, releasing a good perk then obliterating it shortly after, is an excellent way for the company to lose money.

    MoM would like a word.

  • Good were the days of Ruin, BBQ and Nurse's Calling as meta.

No pain res, no undying. That was a meta I could get behind.

  • Started with everything, got reduced to nothing.

A sad tale of DBD, really. No one knows it better than I do.

  • Locker save with a Winter Party Starter.

Hey GeneralV, hope you've been well. I've been out the game for a while. Like you, I will always love Freddy. God how I wish for a Englund skin. It is nice to hear that he's getting a rework. What would you like to see?

Hello, friend! I've doing well. How about ya?

As for the changes Freddy is getting sometime in the future, I... honestly I have zero hope. What I would like to see is a return to his old power, but will I get that?

    Probably not.

You have been behind Frederick since like old old old Freddy!

    Indeed!

I started in 2018, after all. He was fun, then.

    Wish things hadn't changed.

  • Freddy.

    That will never change.

  • Last I saw them, Midwich was fine and Saloon was my least favorite map in the entire game.

They were not on the chopping block, then. I doubt they are now.

  • It is not that our community cannot recognize a good player, it is just that... they are not there.

In DBD, there aren't many good strategies developed over time. It is mostly a matter of "one-shot strategies", things that worked or did not work for one specific trial, under specific circumstances. That is as far as you can get.

Honestly, I can only think of 4 players I would genuinely say were excellent... and that was a group of survivors I've encountered long ago, during the good days of Old DBD. Those gals really took the survivor role to a whole new level, something I had never seen before and have yet to see again.

I did my damn best to get them, swear to ya I did, but to no avail. And that is the only example that I can confidently call "skill", rather than something that worked for one trial in particular.

  • I think Freddy and Claudette will always be my answers, no matter what happens to this game.

  • Grandpa? Not fair!

IRL, I'm probably younger than you. Huh... I wonder how that is supposed to work out...

Anyway, I'm doing well. Hope you are doing well too. But sadly, this game isn't.

    Nailed it.

  • Two dumpster fires? Hell, then I've seen an actual blazing inferno for a really long time around here.

Personal opinion, yes, but imagine seeing everything you like about the game being slowly removed. I don't even know what I am doing here, truth be told.

  • @HugTheHag said:

I joined during the 6th anniversary, and really enjoyed having a non-human killer join the cast. I'm all for monsters and feral humans like my girl Hag.

I'd be happy to have an original chapter.

I'm not a huge horror license fan, and so I find I tend to enjoy the original chapter characters more. It hurts to say that, considering I don't like medieval esthetics or robotics, so the last 2 were duds in my opinion. But Dredge is great, Artist and Blight are great, I love Legion, Hag is love, DbD-Ghostface is amazing.

I'd just prefer for it to be closer to themes I enjoy, like a monstruous, animalistic, body horror or paranormal killer.

I would feel letdown by a licensed killer just as easily as by an original chapter, if it was for example Child's Play, yet another RE chapter, or a random hooded guy with a knife from a license I wouldn't know.

I might have said this before, but I really like your username.

  • DBD used to be pretty good.

...And that is the only good thing I can say about it.

  • @Peanits said:

I would imagine that under the old progression system, most people picked a single Survivor and dumped a lot of points into them to unlock everything. It would seem reasonable that a lot of people would pick a Survivor that's free and had a good perk/perks to start off with. Switching to another character was a massive bloodpoint commitment, so I have to imagine that a lot of people would have continued maining a specific character purely to avoid starting over.

But with the way progression works nowadays, there's not as much reason to stick to that one Survivor. People can branch out and play whichever Survivor they feel like, not just the one they invested the most points into. There's so many options to choose from and far fewer hurdles to switching between them, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people found a new main.

    No, not exactly.

There are plenty of players around who had many survivors in Prestige 3, with multiple perks unlocked across the board. I myself had Claudette, Meg, Quentin, Feng, Kate, Yui and Mikaela in Prestige 3, and I reached that level with almost all of them LONG before the progression system was changed. Mikaela was the only exception, but I was no longer playing the game by then. I prestiged her just for the sake of doing so.

Still, the point is that starting over wasn't actually a huge commitment. The effort present there, distributing your points across your survivors and killers, was perfectly viable to do.

I won't comment about how things currently are because I no longer care, nor even understand them. But I do know how they worked back then. Back when the game was fun.

  • Ah, I had a signature build. I dare say it was my all-time favorite build in the entire game:

    image.png

The sad thing about this build is that it does not work anymore. But if you are an older player, like I am, you already know what this build was about.

And for those who don't recognize it, let me tell you this: it was basically Mirror Myers, but stronger and far more fun to play as / against.

I honestly had a blast with it during the good old days.

I may not post as much as I used to and I may get banned soon (sometimes I hit post comment before thinking about what I'm writing), but I won't forget you. The passion for your favorite character is legendary and I wish I felt like that for something. Of all the games I've played, this one and it's community (for better or worse), had the biggest impact on me.

I really do hope they revisit Freddy and either give you back the old one or at least rework him to be close to the old one with QOL additions.

I won't forget you either, my friend 🧡

Your words warm my heart, as does the knowledge that I've left a flame here. A small ember, the hope that one day Old Freddy will return to the game. Your friendship and support will always be part of that flame.

I am no longer active here, but that hope will never go away. After all, as I've said many times, a Freddy main can dream.

You can basically copy & paste this text onto almost every meta Surv Perk or Red Addon.

    Adrenaline/Unbreakable/Syringes/BNPs/Dead Hard/etc./etc.

Like how often do those perks/items carry the most average survivors through matches they shouldnt have won?

You cannot glue yourself to that one strong perk that killers have until it gets butchered (like corruption/ruin/noed/etc) while merely every surv meta perk is carrying their mistakes.

Devs have to lift soloQ communication until it is en par with swf.

Otherwise there will never be balance in this game.

Right now the game is so disgustingly surv sided and SWF is utterly broken. And still, survs get upset about one perk they cannot counter by just brain afking...

(small tip, dont 3 gen yourself and dont do a kicked gen if someone is in chase if the killer has erruption :) )

Mate, DBD hasn't been truly Survivor sided in a VERY long time, no matter how hard this pill is to swallow.

"All it takes are a few matches to learn."

This is the important part IMO.

I always have a good time when playing Sadako and decent results. And I think it is totally fine that her power is more on the simple side, not every Killer needs an overcomplicated Power.

Obviously, it cannot be expected that she is as strong as Blight or Wesker, who are both more complicated to play, but I think this is fine for a power which is easy to pick up.

Ah, it is good to see you, old friend.

I am happy to know that we are in agreement, once again.

  • To be honest, I haven't been hyped and excited for DbD's future since.. well, a LONG time.

I did manage to find enjoyment again, all thanks to Sadako, but honestly that is as far as it gets.

  • Playing Sadako.

It is simple as that, really.

  • That is a very incorrect opinion.

Sadako doesn't have an overwhelming ability, like Nurse, but she has her power and is damn well capable of holding her own against Survivor teams.

All it takes are a few matches to learn.

    I use 2 builds.

    Build 1:

    Sloppy

Franklins (If more than 1 med kit otherwise I use ruin)

    Deadlock

    STBFL

    Build 2:

    Brutal Strength

    COB

    Enduring

Franklins (If more than 2 med kits otherwise I run bamboozle)

Im an Onryo main and have played her since release and I've had good success with these builds

Interesting builds. Actually I've used some of those perks for testing purposes, but I didn't get to play many trials.

Still, Brutal Strength being there is already a good sign.

    @GoodBoyKaru said:

Right so. I currently main Slaydako and Pyramid Head 50/50 and they're my 2 go-to killers. Plus you know me, so you know I'm trustworthy.

My build for some optimal Slaydako Yassamura gameplay is:

    -Call of Brine

    -Eruption

    -Enduring

    -Sloppy Butcher

For addons you want to use Well Stone and Cabin Sign.

Basically you teleport around the map, be a minor nuisance, and then all at once suddenly Eruption snowball into a complete curbstomp. The addons are there to make TVs return faster but not Iri Tape levels of fast because that addon makes me sad(ako).

Sloppy is incredibly good because of the healing meta and while you're teleporting around, being a nuisance, and generally stalling the game with Condemned you'll be getting lots of 1st hits (and not many 2nd hits), so slowing down healing adds up (all the while you build up the Eruption snowball). Plus it's always nice to interrupt a Sloppy heal.

Enduring is a must have, because I like to play loops as an M1 killer in a way that means I eat a lot of pallets. I can't play her without it tbh because being stunned so much hurts.

And then Call of Eruption is just good. COB is like the best regression perk in the game right now and Eruption is just busted so they go happily hand in hand skipping down the road.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HVTUEIM0TWW9/img-20221205-001031.png

I'm on my phone this is the best cropping I can do.

    Also, hi again

Hello, old friend! It seems I have found a reason to play this game again.

And hey, first Old Freddy and now Sadako? I am sensing a pattern here :)

Anyway, I liked your build suggestion. Both Sloppy Butcher and Enduring seem to be common factors among Sadako's builds, and I can see why.

As for the Call of Brine / Eruption combo... well, I've definitely heard about it before. It might take a while for me to test it for myself, because I don't have Eruption available for everyone, but I will make sure to keep this build in mind.

  • Little update here:

For now, I've settled for A Nurse's Calling, Brutal Strength, Make Your Choice and Thanatophobia.

It seems to be working quite well, even better than I hoped.

Still, more suggestions are always welcome!

Welcome back, friend! I am very happy that you found someone you enjoy playing as again!

While I don't play Sadako a whole lot, I have a lot of fun using STBFL, Haunted Grounds, Devour Hope, and Undying on her.

Sloppy Butcher and Make Your Choice also seem to be great on her due to her using m1 attacks and her power allowing her to be mobile.

Hello, my friend! It is good to see you :)

And hey, I was actually running Devour Hope yesterday. Didn't get any moris, sadly, but the insta-down really came in clutch. It requires a bit of luck, as it always did, but overall DH seems to be a good choice.

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

I have been playing a lot of Onryo myself and much to my surprise I have been really enjoying her. I don't feel I am in a position to give build suggestions but I must say I have had survivors say they had a lot of fun (I don't camp or tunnel) as I made full use of her teleport so they were in constant fear never knowing where I am going to pop up from lol

Getting her adept was not the easiest but I am glad I chose to get it on her as it made me play her and I think she is fun even with her own default perks as a build :)

    Nice!

Her adept was easy for me, actually, got it on my second match.

She is extremely fun to play, imho. Haven't had that much fun with a character in this game since... well, a long time.

  • Sometimes I can still get some use of Devour Hope, but it seems to be the only Hex perk that is still truly worth using, and it is still a big risk.

    @scorpio said:

My ######### comment disappeared. The gist was, playing against Legion is unfun and tedious, and it has nothing to do with whether you win or lose. Legion is broken, period. I would rather play against any other killer in the game and get absolutely stomped on than play against Legion and win. He is a fun sponge. He sucks any and all fun out of the game for everyone else and keeps it for himself.

You KNOW that people hate playing against him and you choose to do it anyway, therefore you are knowingly choosing to ruin the fun of the survivors you’re versing. Now you are complaining that they are in return ruining your fun by DCing. It’s ironic and hypocritical. Yes, he’s in the game and yes you have the right to play him, but that doesn’t mean you SHOULD play him. However, if you still choose to play Legion, knowing full well how unfun he is to play against, then in my opinion you have no right to complain when people DC and ruin your fun in return

I don’t condone DCing, but I completely understand it. No one wants to waste their limited and valuable free time playing an unfun match. And they shouldn’t be forced to. This is why BHVR hasn’t instituted a strong or harsh rule and punishment for DCing, and I don’t think they should. What they should do is rework Legion into a killer that obeys the rules of the game and is fun to play as AND against. Until then, when you choose to play him, you do so knowing you are ruining others’ fun and that they are very likely to ruin yours in return. And in my opinion, you deserve it.

    Nice time travel.

Bit of a shame. If you enjoy the chaotic everywhere-at-once playstyle he is definitely the go to. And he actually has a wide variety of good addons; including wallhack addons

Sadako you can try anything you want but at the end of the day she is just an M1 killer with some mobility. If the survivors can loop she is gonna get slapped. The better they can loop or the safer the map, the more she needs the chase perks to even function

"If you enjoy the chaotic everywhere-at-once playstyle"

Eh, not really my kind of killer, so thats okay.

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

Make Your Choice is a must-have on her, in my opinion.

    It brings back memories, honestly.

I will make sure to test it.

  • @Donleov said:

    Hi,

Sadako is a killer that has a hard time getting downs vs good survivors and her addons are not particularly good, so it's good to focus your builds on slowdowns that not require hooks and chasing perks. However, not every single survivor is a god tier, so if you feel confident you can down people on a determined lobby you can get a bit creative.

    Good perks on Sadako:

Sloppy Butcher -- this perk sinergizes a lot with her because the first hit usually is very easy and the hemorage can help you deal with medkits that are her worst enemy

Franklings Demise -- In the same way it helps to deal with medkits

A Nurses Calling -- Its a rare perk to see nowdays so you can get some easy downs because sometimes survivors don't expect you to see them.

Bambozle/Superior anatomy/Spirit Fury/Enduring -- Solid perks for M1 killers, I personally like the ultra fast vault build, I find it to be a bit more realiable.

Make Your Choice -- This perk is very bad on most killers but sadako is one of the few that is really good to take advantage of it, specially on the first hook when the survivors have no idea you have this.

Call Of Brine -- a must nowdays.

Eruption -- Its a staple for killers nowdays but it's a bit unrealiable on sadako because you can't know for sure you can down someone in a reasonable time, so use it if you think the survivors are not very good in chase

    Famous Builds

Condemn build: Ring Drawing, Iridescent tape, Gideon Meat Plant offering. Call of Brine, Sloppy, franklings/shattered hope, A nurses calling. Its her most famous build and one of her strongest, I personally like The Game for this because of the square shape, which helps to get mutiple condemn in one teleport. The idea of the build is to force survivors to heal each other because of the Ring Drawing, you don't want to hook anyone with this, because survivors picking others up increases condemn. The idea is to basically search for easy hits and leave to bother someone else and stop them to heal by themselves. The most important part is to not commit a lot, just break pallets and look for easy targets. Unless the survivors are really aware of this gameplay it's 3 moris at least.

Chasing addons: sadako players like The old newspaper + reikos watch because it makes her chasing power a little bit more reliable, you can put any build along side it.

Make Your Choice build: Make Your Choice, Floods of Rage, Call of Brine, eruption. Just make sure to always hook near tvs. If the survivor turns the tv off before saving the floods of rage can help you track them.

    Hope it helps

    Hello!

Thank you for your suggestions, my friend, I really appreciate the help!

I am happy to see that some of the perks you've mentioned I was already considering for my builds. Guess I was doing something right, after all.

In particular, I am glad to see A Nurse's Calling in there. This perk used to be an extremely important aspect of the old meta, and for me it never really left. It is good to have confirmation that Sadako can take advantage of this perk too.

I will make sure to keep all of this in mind for my next trials.

    @Hensen2100 said:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/YJJZLHSX5W27/asdd.png

The best sadako build is to go play sadako 2.0 aka Dredge, lol.

Sadako was exactly what I wanted in a killer, but with no anti-loop she is just such cheeks. Dredge doesn't have the hardest anti-loop ever but it is more than sufficient to actually get some things done.

In the end, they play almost exactly the same unless you are trying to condemn slug. But Dredge just does it better in every conceivable way

Sadako needs way too many perks. She needs slowdown, she needs chase perks to make up for being M1, and she needs information perks to actually utilize her mobility. There isn't really room for all of it so you always have to sacrifice in one area.

I personally can't stand her without Enduring; and it's a painful experience to play her without bamboozle. So that's half the build right there. Toss in Corrupt intervention so you don't lose 30 seconds off 3 gens before your first TV turns on. Maybe BBQ or Rancor for the final perk slot?

Rancor seems prime for her since she will be losing lots of games and you can follow the obsession demanifested until it's time to Mori them in a game gone south

    Yeah, that... won't do.

I don't even have Dredge, nor any intention of buying him, so this is off the table.
