I have a concept for a Freddy change. It would make him more fun, strong and unique.
But reach the highest of tiers? That is very unlikely.
EDIT: Just realized I didn't actually say what my proposal was. I'm leaving it here if anyone would like to see it and offer feedback. A respectful debate is always welcome.
Power: Dream Demon
Pull survivors into the Dream World
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 50%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.
“You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.” -Freddy Krueger

The big difference is the Incapacitated-Effect, so no survivors who finish a gen in your face.
In Dream Transition, together with the old Pill Bottle, you could toy around with survivors.
Dream Projection stays. This version would be perfect!
@BHVR give us a chance. Give us the Freddy we want :-)
Precisely, my friend :)
-
Honestly, I don't know.
Old Chapel was easily the most balanced map BHVR has ever made, and for that I praise them. I have to give credit where credit is due.
But it is gone now, and I don't think we still have a perfect map.

Such a shame you don't have much choice when it comes to Freddy.
I don't mind, I like the P3 Bloody skin.
I heard it is a rare sight these days.

This is a perfect modernized version of his original power.
Freddy was my main when I started in December 2017, it's sad that he no longer exists, his power was my favourite and the dream transitions were the most entertaining thing about him.
Thank you so much, my friend.
You don't know how happy I am to read this. When I came up with this concept I wanted to fix every problem Old Freddy mains, like myself, had with him.
And I am happy to see that I succeeded.

In all seriousness, yes. It absolutely works.
Ah, I see.
My MMR is always messed up, to be honest. Either I get really easy games, or really hard ones where the survivors are clearly better than I am.

I purposely tank MMR just so I can get the stompiest stomp ever seen in pubs. If it’s a challenge, I don’t want it. 🥰
Does it work? With MMR being as broken and weird as it is?

I know it's off-topic but i never saw that much Freddy posts before. A lot people are asking BHVR to fix him and make him great again.
How you are feeling about that much people loves him and wants him back.
A bit off-topic indeed, but I've actually left some comments on those posts you are talking about.
I'm happy that Freddy is finally trending, this has been long overdue. Should have happened all the way back in July of 2019, actually.
I'm trying to help this wave, to leave encouraging words and to show people my own proposal for a Freddy change. It is okay to have some hope that things will finally get better, even if it is a bit unlikely.
-
I would recommend A Nurse's Calling for ya.
This perk used to be meta a long time ago, some members of the Forums still remember that. And it is fantastic how helpful it can be.
The perk helps you with tracking and applying pressure. It almost never leaves my builds.
-
Not sure if he has to be nerfed, but I will be happy if I never see him again.
I really don't wanna play against a mini-Blight with a messed up hitbox.

It still bothers me to this day too fellas. That Nerf lives in my head rent-free. It was so long ago I know it shouldn't even matter, but it does because they did her so so dirty with that nerf specifically. 😤 😤
I know, better than anyone else, how that feels.
I mean, almost everything I liked about DBD has been taken away, so essentially all that was lost since July of 2019 lives rent-free in my head, sadly.

That argument is very flawed. A survivor that is on a hook, cannot progress their objective. Survivors that are busy healing, don't do gens either. Slugged survivors also don't progress the game and need to be picked up. This is what I consider natural slowdown. All of these things give the killer a lot more time in a match.
You may find survivors that end the game in 4 minutes, if you look hard enough. But you will never find a group that does that to a Blight, that gets 6 hooks throughout the match. There is just too much stuff going on for the survivors to solely focus on gens. When you play in a hyper aggressive way (something that I feel only killers with a very strong chase power can do), you threaten to progress the game so fast, that the survivors have no choice but to slow you and themselves down by healing, hiding, avoiding, pre running etc.
You are right though, that for this strategy to work the killer needs to be quite strong compared to the survivors. You either play a lot better or you play something so strong that it can make up for that lacking skill difference. Otherwise you will not be able to build up enough pressure to stop the gens from flying. This is also where I disagree again, that me winning with these weak perks has nothing to do with my own skill. Will I win a tournament like that? No. I could have 6 perk slots and 4 addons and probably couldn't manage. That goes for most of us. But assuming MMR works, it should put me against survivors that are about equally strong to me. And when I suddenly nerf myself like this but play more concentrated and still manage to win, I'd say this is because I play well, because the survivors I play against don't suddenly become a lot weaker than normal.
Play a difficult killer for the first time (Billy, Blight, Singularity etc.) and you will not perform nearly as well as someone that knows the ins and outs about that character even if your build is significantly stronger. Otherwise, it would imply that anyone with the best perks and addons on the strongest will reach the highest level of play. Strong builds can carry you quite far, but it's your own skill that really makes the difference in that regard. If you compare both sides, you will always be able to point that someone is less efficient. Does that mean they are inefficient overall? No. It just means, that their opponent is operating on a higher efficiency.
If you struggle with Billy's mechanics, you will be happy to get 4 hooks in 10 minutes. At least against good survivors. Because M1 killers aren't that strong, his map mobility isn't worth much, if he can't end chases anyway and breaking some pallets slightly quicker will not get you very far. Someone with more experience might just end up killing them all in 4 minutes. This is also how it works for every other killer (maybe not SM and definitely not Freddy). This basically my entire point from before.
You progress so fast or play so smart, that the survivors will not be able to keep up that pace for long. This forces them to focus on slowing you down, instead of rushing gens. Before 6.1.0, I feel this worked a lot better because the meta on both sides made this a more accomplishable play style. But even now, it still works. Just not as well.
With your second to last paragraph you have pretty much confirmed what I said before and this closes my argument. So I am not sure where you disagree now. It seems though we have drifted a bit off-topic, so I would prefer we continue this dicussion in private rather than doing that in a thread that isn't really about this specific debate. Or we make a thread of our own, if you'd like that.
TL;DR: It is possible to delay survivors naturally by giving them more to do than just sitting on gens. Like healing, rescuing etc. This is what I called natural slow down. If you perform well enough, this will alow you to slow down games by quite a bit and buy you enough time to win.
definitely not Freddy
Worst of all is that you still can do well with him., but it is incredibly boring due to his current power still existing in the game.
Like, I still play him because I love Freddy Krueger. He was the very first killer I played, all the way back in 2018, and I'll never stop being a Freddy main. But if I had no connection to Freddy, if I was judging by power alone, I would never even think about playing him.
What is the point of getting a 3k or a 4k if you don't have fun?

If I got into how horribly Freddy has been gutted this post would be a 10 page post
Welcome to my world.
-
I prefer the slowdown.
When I first started playing DBD, almost every single killer could be looped to some extent. The exceptions were Nurse, because she is Nurse, and Legion because of Old Legion being broken and awful.
But the rest you could loop. And I like things that way.
Antiloop usually can be translated to "hold W and pre-drop everything" which is often seen among the newer killers and is the most boring type of gameplay DBD has to offer.

Apart from it still blocking all aura perks and items, most SWFs really are not very coordinated at all. They don't know clock callouts or how to precisely describe where they are, and since the downed survivor can't see auras either, they can't steer their teammates in the right directions. They will certainly find their friend eventually, but the additional time on hook or the floor can still be very impactful, not least if you are actively pressuring them while they are frantically running and crawling and scrambling around trying to figure out how to describe the random Lery's room they're downed or hooked in.
Not a perk I would bring if I knew I were to regularly go against 4-player voice comm SWFs, of course, but since it's still fairly alright against the awfully rare squad like that, that doesn't deter me from using it.
Agreed.

I joined DBD as sort of a FOMO move in November '21, when I heared that the Stranger Things chapter would be leaving and I thought "come on, just buy it and give it a try and maybe you can becomr a Demogorgon main." And the rest is history.
Ah, got it!
I think you have a great understanding of the game, honestly thought you had been around for much longer.
I joined back in 2018, because a friend recommended the game. The rest is a history of loving a game and watching it slowly become something I dislike.
-
@sulaiman said:
I would like to use it. But since i consider it useless against swf, and they are not that rare, i see it as a wasted perk slot and take something else instead.
Yeah, this perk hurts SoloQ far more than it hurts SWF, thats for sure.
You can still get some value though. On maps like Léry's it can be difficult to handle a scenario where all your aura-reading is blocked, even if you have comms to help.

If you are on comms and third seal gets value, thats an incredibly gigantic skill issue.
Well, it does happen from time to time.
Every player makes mistakes.
-
@Mooks said:
Yeah.. the hate for this perk gets quite annoying.
it is a good info perk and prevents snowballing which can also benefit soloq greatly.
the playstyle of just hiding and not doing anything all game is not tied to this perk alone and happens with or without it. Back in the day the hate went to Urban Evasion.
imo killers shouldn’t rely on aura reads this heavily anyways, BBQ had lots of counterplay but now with nowhere to hide, lethal pursuer and others it can get annoying
I miss seeing Urban Evasion.
-
but that is more attributable to your time with the game rather than the game not being scary.
That is literally the only thing you've said that I disagree with, but that is just because I think you're forgetting something important.
The atmosphere.
There used to be an effort by the developers to create an unsettling and horror-themed atmosphere, which heavily carried the scary aspect of Dead by Daylight. This was clearly seen in the older maps.
Of course, one can always argue that nothing is scary forever, and the game will lose that aspect with time. However, there is a very clear difference between having a horror atmosphere at all times, and having nothing at all.
Had the older maps stayed unchanged, and the newer ones designed with horror in mind, things would be better.

That's a pretty bold and farfetched claim; I would say that DBD is about as fair and accessible as possible in this regard. A lot of survivor staples or viable perks, even mega picks, are either free (DH, SB, Unbreakable, Iron Will) and others are bundled with OG characters, that can be grinded for with Shards... a slow work, but it will keep you busy for 600h+ Feng, Kate, Gabriel or even Jeff are great early picks that will yield you great perks for your first couple of thousand Shards.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3604471#Comment_3604471
Very good assessment. The only thing I would want to add is anecdotally: when I tried to do the "Tools of the Trade" achievement (achieve 5x merciless victory rating by only using basic killer perks), I was heavily carried by mind breaker / claustrophobia and Surge/Jolt, because here were so little good killer perks in the basic pool.
Back then you needed a night perfect game, nowadays you just need to kill all 4 survivor, so you can occasionally stumble into a winning match, but 2ys back it was pretty rough.
Didn't Steam just give you the achievement?
Tools of the Trade was retroactively given to people who had already done the required 5 trials before the achievement was introduced to the game.

when the killers is close a bars fill up if the bar is full the survivor can unhook himself but the bar doesnt fill up if a surivor is close.
The problem is that the process takes like 20 minutes if the killer is five meters away of the hook, so your teammeates that cant see the bar are going to try to rescue before the second stage so the killer doesnt need to stay away from the hook and the bar doesnt fill up.
Thanks for the explanation.
-
Very interesting answers here! Pretty fun to read about your strategies and builds with this perk.
Which, I gotta say, was quite different from my own approach with the perk. Because what I did was literally put it into my usual build and that was it.
If anyone is curious, here is what I ended up going with:
Third Seal took the place of Thanatophobia, and I was pretty happy with the result. I might try it again, actually.
See if it works a second time.
-
I still don't understand how that mechanic works, tbh.
-
I did manage to get a grab recently...
Were you playing Meg? Was the map Red Forest? Was the Freddy using the bloody prestige skin?
-
I've only played against him once... but honestly it was boring.
I felt like I was playing against a mini version of Blight, which was already bad enough considering I hate to go against Blight, but with a messed up hitbox.
-
@Jamppandeerus said:
or a better question would be, what do you want changed with hillbilly, what are you hoping for?
A full return of Old Billy. No further adjustments, no nerfs or changes.
The golden child of killer balance never deserved a nerf. It is an excellent opportunity to fix that mistake.
-
Right now? I think Myers, Sadako, Huntress, Pig and Bubba are all fun to play as and against.
As for miserable to play as and against, Ghostface still has the crown of "GeneralV's most hated killer in the entire game".
-
I like Pig, always have.
But I do remember when she was an endgame monster, and I wish that hadn't changed. Pig got unnecessarily nerfed many times, and it was sad to watch.

That was my one complaint about it, really: It's so dull. Everything is almost the same shade of gray or brown. I don't mind either color, but it does look like nothing but a wasteland, and we have such detailed maps now. It's drab and boring.

Part of the "Realm Beyond" updates, which were essentially downgrades. Keep in mind, no one asked for those changes.
The maps were ruined simply because they could be. And you wanna know something infuriating?
These changes could be optional. Modders have proven to us that DBD supports people playing on the same map with different lighting. But instead, they ruined the maps and there is nothing we can do about it.
Other than offer feedback, that is.

OG Freddy was awful, he basically had no power. While it was more faithful to the franchise it just didn't fit DBD which is why they reworked him, but yes he defo needs to be looked at again because he's so boring to play as and against.
You're entitled to your own opinion, of course. I respect it.
But as someone who mained him, I strongly disagree. And I'm quite confident that I can fix him with QoL improvements.

It used to be a map which I really liked.
I remember how beautiful it used to look:
It was magnificent. I was used to its loops and advantages, so I liked to get it. Slightly more as survivor than killer.

I've seen a fair few discussion in the past on these boards regarding players "tunnelling" their objectives, both Survivors and Killers.
These are the Objectives to get the win though. Killers cannot win unless they sacrifice; Survivors cannot win unless they escape. If anything, should Survivors "tunnel" gens at the expense of not healing others or missing out on Totems, then that's all the better for a Killer for easier downs.
Ultimately, why should it matter what somebody else's opinion be of another's playstyle? Everyone plays differently and for every game which may make you feel like crap then there are others which will be great. Tunnelling eitherside isn't going to go away, so use that pressure to improve skills and learn.
I wanted to find something I disagree with on your comment so I could say: "Think, Marc!"
