Exactly this. Just stand still and die. Easy. Why people don't understand that concept is beyond me

Yep. I'm in denial, while winning out against DH, baiting it and taking easy downs. But I must be wrong. Okie dokie.

but... you're not mindgaming anything in that scenario!
you just do what literally everyone does.
difference is, that you just accept it the way it is and think its perfectly fine that they just get to activate their "get out of jail for free card", while others, like me, acknowledge it as the problem that it is.
Ok my guy. You do you, and keep losing to DH. You payed for the game just like everyone else, and you have every right to lose however you'd like to.

again, did you read the thread before writing?
Ofc you're gonna get no value from beast of prey if you hope that survivors will think you left the chase.
Btw Beast of prey can have a value if you decide to leave a chase, since it lasts for like 2 second after the chase music is over, for a total of like 6/8 seconds of undetectable that you can use to surprise another survivor
Ok bud. Like I said, you can use it if that's what you like. I'm just trying to tell you that it's not nearly as effective as you think it is. Your post asked a question, I gave an answer. If you don't like that answer, that's ok, but believe me, youre not gonna get many others that agree with you.

i dont want to sound rude or anything, but are you sure you're playing in high MMR?
cause none of the things you just said are going to work in high MMR matches. in fact, high level DbD players dont even try to mindgame - they hold W and play as safe around pallets and windows as they can while their team bangs through gens.
not to mention that your scenario is incredibly unspecific and entirely based on the assumption that the Killer even IS in a position to mindgame, lets say, a longwall window from - which in 90% of the cases they are not going to be.
so i will repeat my question, but this time i'll be a bit more specific:
you are chasing someone around a long wall jungle gym. you're about to catch up and they just ran through the pallet - but instead of dropping it, they just Dead Hard for distance to the window - how do you mindgame this? after all, this is a pretty realistic scenario.
or maybe a different one: you are chasing a Survivor who is holding W accross the map, they now Dead Hard for distance to reach an upcomming pallet - how do you mindgame this?
i mean, i guess Nurse can just teleport through the obstacle and immediately approach them from the other side... but for consistencies sake, please make it unspecific to certain Killers, so that i can apply this tactic even when playing someone like Legion, thanks!
Alrighty my guy. Were just gonna have to agree to disagree. You do you, and keep losing to DH players, I'll do me and take my easy mindgames. Have a good one bro
-
Like go ahead and use it if you like, that's fine. But it's really not gonna work as well as you're thinking it will when you're playing against survivors that have more than 7 braincells

do i really need to explain to you why this is not a valid argument?
also, please enlighten me oh master of the DbD Killer side - how exactly are you reliably mindgaming the Dead Hard for distance?
after all, you make it sound like there is a super easy counter to that - one that everyone - except for you - is just too bad at the game at to have ever figured out.
So please, the stage is yours. do explain.

Well, for one, don't lunge and swing right away. That's pretty damn simple. Get close enough that you could get a hit, and just wait. Chances are, they're gonna use DH and it's then wasted. As for distance, mind game the same way you would as if they didn't have DH and we're just further away from you. Don't just rush directly at the window, play the mindgame of potentially cutting it off from the other side. It's really pretty simple my dude you just gotta use your head for a moment
Let me give you an example.
Scenario 1
Survivor is running towards a shack window. They are 15 meters ahead of you. They DONT have DH. In this situation, you wouldn't just run to the window and vault it to chase them (as a regular m1 killer) right? You would attempt to mind game the shack.
Scenario 2
Survivor is running towards the shack window. They are 10 meters ahead of you. They DO have dead hard. Knowing this, you again don't just go the window and vault it after they have DH to it and vaulted it themselves, instead you attempt to mind game it.
It's really not a hard concept to understand my dude. You can use those scenarios in literally any situation

It just flat out shouldn't be able to make you immune from dmg and be able to run back into the killer into a pallet, restart chases and make them 2-3 times longer for one hook. Killers time is too valuable for all these things PLUs boons now to be going on for a 1 v 4
Ok, but what is your suggested change. You can sit there and explain why you don't like the perk all day, but unless you suggest an actual fix, we aren't getting anywhere.
Are you saying the I frames should simply be dropped? Like they still get the distance and everything but if used poorly they can still be hit while dashing? Otherwise I'm not understanding what you're trying to say

yeah a good 90% of the available insta downs in this game are extremely situational (Haunted Grounds, Make Your Choice, Iron Maiden, etc.) and the other 10% are bound to specific characters (Evil Within, Chainsaws, Demon Strike, etc.) - which not only invalidates this argument for any character that doesnt have access to such an ability (e.g. Wraith or Spirit), but in all but one case these oneshot characters are also rather unviable in high MMR (the sole exception here being Oni).
with other words, there is no reliable way to counter this "requirement" for the Killer other than dumb luck.
and lets not forget that Exposed can counter Dead Hard exactly once a trial - after getting oneshot downed and hooked the Survivor starts out injured after all, meaning they have DH up for the remainder of the trial, as long as they dont heal and just jump back on gens immediately - an action that already is very strong, but can be further buffed by perk choices such as Resilience.
so no, neither Exposed nor oneshot abilities are an actual counter to this Perk - they dont even get close to that.
Ok, and DH should only really cause you a problem once per survivor per game. If they use it once, you know they have it and you can simply bait it, no matter who you're playing as. If you get hit by a DH twice off one person, that's your own fault. The only exception to that is if they use it for distance to a window, in which case you should know that's what their plan is and mind game it accordingly. If you can't do that, you're not as good a player as you want to believe you are. Fact is, it has plenty of counter play, y'all just want it to be easier than it is.

Think about it, just to function properly, this game needs 80% of the playerbase to be survivor players. That is why they cater to them, they are quite literally the vast majority of players.
That may be true, but for the game to function it's need to be at 100%. You can't just neglect the 20% just because it's only 20%. Without the killer you have no game

@Mister_xD said:
I see all the time people complaining about dead hard, and the most common complaint I see is that "it gives an extra health state"
But like.. so does every exhaustion perk??
there is one huge difference:
literally every Exhaustion Perk in this game either has a downside to it (Sprint Burst not allowing the Survivor to run across the map without wasting it) or a clear activation requirement the Survivor has to plan around or get out of their way to earn (Lithe requires them to fastvault something, Balanced Landing to drop from a great height, etc.) - excluding Dead Hard.
Dead Hard is just always there and can be used at any point in time without the Survivor having to do anything special for it.
that is the problematic part of this perk - its not necessary that it gives them the extra hit, its that they get it entirely for free without having to do anything to earn it prior.
so Dead Hard either needs to have its activation requirement changed into something that Survivors have to earn, or get a downside added to it that makes it so Survivors have a harder time whenever they are not actively using the Perk.
The activation required is being injured. Do me a favor and count how many possible ways someone can be instant downed, completely negating any chance at DH, then get back to me.

"I see all the time people complaining about dead hard, and the most common complaint I see is that "it gives an extra health state"
But like.. so does every exhaustion perk?? Just in different scenarios."
The thing is , with every other exhastion perk if you mess up, for example run into a wall or do the loop too wide, get stuck on something etc, you will get punished and hit and then you eighter make it to other loop or you die. With dead hard you can mess up pretty much anything and you will still be able to correct yourself or gain extra distance to the other pallet/window. If there is a loop - dead zone - loop , there is no other exhaustion perk that will make you be able to get through the dead zone after being hit besides dead hard and no ther perk will make the same loop doable after being hit. It also works on any map without dissadvantages unlike other exhaustion perks.
Right, you're gonna tell me you've never ever even once in your entire time of playing DBD or watching videos or streams, seen someone DH into a wall and die 2 secs later? ######### happens all the time my dude, your argument is not a valid one

I understand what your saying but dbd been an asymmetrical game makes the it a different situation. In a team game if you get put in a match with people better than you as a new player you can learn for what your teammates and opponents are doing because there's an obvious cause and effect.
Now as a survivor you can see what your teammates are doing that work and you have a understand of why it works because you tried something similar and it didn't work.
The killer is all by there self playing a different game then there opponents in a way and been the only one playing this "game" the cause and effects aren't as obvious. You can't just learn from your mistakes as a new killer because you don't have another killer compare yourself to.
There's always guides on youtube, or self recording and watching your own mistakes to learn from them
-
@Gamedozer7 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2604800#Comment_2604800
The problem is that the one thing dbd had going for it over other asymmetrical games was a good beginning killer experience. You came in and had fun as a killer you don't get bullied and on the other side the survivors have fun because its scary and all that stuff we jaded players don't get anymore. But now with the fresh mmr been pretty close to the top and the way a good survivor can lose mmr because of teammates you have the possibility of good survivors playing against 30 hour killers and now you end up with a killer experience like all the other games.
This mmr system is doesn't work correctly I have to lose 7-10 in a row(0-1k) to end up playing 1-2 matches against baby survivors. There is a few good matches in there were it feels even but most of my matches are just way out of my league one way or another.
Ok, learn from those difficult matches. Become a better killer player and learn to play around the better survivors. I can understand what you're saying about wanting a good experience when you first start, but like I originally had said, rewarding bad plays is not a good way to create a skillful player and will only condition you to continue making those bad plays
-
It's very true that bubba being able to simply camp like he does is not ok, I absolutely agree with that.
Unfortunately though, the answer is to simply let him have 1 free kill while everyone else does gens and leaves.
Is this fair gameplay? No. Not in the slightest.
Does it need a change? Absolutely.
Should the survivors reward the bubba by attempting to get saves and just get themselves killed in the process? Not at all. They should take what they can and go.
So I again 1000% agree with Sluzzy that even though there's an obvious answer to the problem, it shouldn't be a problem in the first place and until it's fixed it's a way to reward boring gameplay from the killers side when the survivors are just trying to have an actual game

That's not how League of Legends works.
League of Legends is all about abusing flavor of the month OP champions to carry yourself. Nobody carries themselves out of it using bad/weak champions.
Ok. It was an example for the MMR system, not in game mechanics. LoL and DBD and absolutely different games. The point of what I said is how MMR systems works.

As a new killer they should expect to have a bit of a rough game. If you're brand new to something, you're not expected to be great at it. Not even good tbh. If all new killers had incredibly easy games it would only condition them to thinking they should always have easy games, and they would never learn to make better plays. Instead if they have rough games, it would give reason to learn how to play better and learn complex tactics. If they don't want to learn to play better, then they shouldn't expect to win. Easy as that. Rewarding bad plays is not the way to create a skillful player.
Following up on this,
Assume a new player plays at a match made skill of 5/10. Being new they are likely playing at a skill of closer to 2/10. So they will lose, and drop down, and be put into matches made of 2/10 players. As they learn more, they will get more skill and work themselves up to 5/10. So in those matches of 2/10, they will dominate and slowly be out into better survivors matches. So they will play at 5/10 against 5/10. And then as they learn more and more, they increase their skill to 7/10. So they start to dominate those games at 5/10, and start playing people at 7/10. This will continue on until they've reached their natural skill cap as a player overall, and stagnate at whatever skill level they should be at. It's the same concept as any game using a MMR system. Take League Of Legends as an example, it works the exact same way. Bad players get pushed to low ranks while good players carry themselves to higher ranks.

As you guys might know, i new Jeepers Creepers movie is coming out, this one is a complete reboot with new staff, completely from scratch with no attachments to the old ones. So no bad rep attached to this one.
So with that in mind, does the Creeper have another chance to be in the game? If not, i understand, but could this work?
I'm not sure why exactly people are so against the creeper, an idea from a man who did horrible things, but they're completely ok with Freddy, a character who was and is a pedo and did horrible things to children. Obviously there's a difference in one being just a character and the other being the idea from a horrible person, but it's still a little odd to me.
The argument of not wanting a flying killer though makes a lot of sense. But that could be circumvented by creeper simply floating around like nurse, or having his power be something like a stationary vertical flying used to gather information before dropping back down to resume running on the ground

Killer perk: Freshman
Description: Your students will learn, even if they start dumb. At the start of the game, all perks are disabled for all survivors. After 60 seconds a perk will become available at random, and every 25/30/35 seconds another perk becomes available until all are freed.
Survivor Perk: Do Unto Others...
Description: ... as they do unto you. When you have at least unhooked 2/1/1 survivors and healed 3/3/2 health states total, you gain the "shielded" status and can withstand an additional hit. This effect cannot be stacked, but lasts until you're next hit.
The survivor one sounds a bit like old MoM and I'm not sure how to feel about that lol. I really like the idea behind the killer one though
-
So you were walking too quickly and stepped into the trap? Doesn't really sound like a bug my dude
-
Nah you won't be punished other than maybe some harsh words from survivors if you count that as a punishment. If you really feel the need to, just find a nice corner and stare at it while doing whatever else IRL. Or even better, find an exit gate and wait at it for all gens to pop, then open it yourself to force EGC to start. That way survivors are forced to leave after a couple mins instead of exploding windows and pallets for an extra 10 mins.

Definitely not toxic, it's a mechanic of the game. But at the same time, so is tunneling and camping. If the killer decides it's in their best interest to remove you from the game in the most for sure way possible because they don't want to deal with the threat of being flashed, that's fair game.
-
The issue with calling for something like that, just the same as calling for a boycott of killer in general, is that only a fraction of the playerbase actually comes on these forums. You'll never be able to request every player of the game to do something because a large majority will never even know it's going on.

Eventually you'll get a team that's just bad or doesn't care. With what I said to do, I managed to get it my first try. It's really not too bad. Use pwyf, ruin, undying, and maybe even haunted ground. Pwyf to catch people, the other 3 perks just to keep survivors busy on totems and scared. Remember, you really don't need to defend gens with this. You just want to buy enough time to find everyone as once you're close enough you can just insta kill them and you'll never need to hook anyone even once.
-
Use the pink add ons and the perk play with your food. Find the obsession asap, DO NOT ATTACK ANYONE. Chase the obsession for just long enough to get a token, then drop chase but don't leave. Just keep restarting chases with obsession until you've stacked pwyf to the max, and then go mori catch everyone else. It might take a few tried but that's the best way to get it

I love her but it's quite tedious to risk the situation when using her power and to hear very closely what's going on around.
If i can think of another character that others find fun to play is Pyramid Head. i take into account that it takes time to get used to him and do decent.
But I'm debating whether to buy him or not.
Is it really worth spending money at current situation with MMR?
Is playing with him a good choice for a beginner killer?
The first character i bought is Cheryl, i made a mistake in not buying the full DLC...
Probably not. He's not exactly a "normal" killer and definitely changes some core mechanics, such as hooks. He requires a different play style than pretty much all the rest of the cast.
The best killers to begin with are gonna be ones with simple and straight forward powers, typically M1 killers like trapper, wraith, meyers, etc. In all fairness they aren't quite as strong as others, but for learning the basics, you're better off sticking to a basic killer.
That being said, if you DO want to play a more complex killer you certainly can, and if that's the case I'd highly recommend checking out some quick guides on youtube. If you need any suggestions, Otzdarva is a very well rounded killer main with basic AND in depth guides on every killer in the game as well as great perk builds to use with each

You're basically telling people to stop complaining when you're doing EXACTLY that, complaining about people complaining.
You're saying people shouldn't feel upset by nasty words from a "stranger" when you have no right how to tell anyone how they should feel, nasty words are nasty words regardless of how you view them, and rightfully so they're going to affect people. Just because you can either handle it or it's never happened to you, doesn't mean others can handle it that well.
You're saying people should stop playing the game if it affects them, implying they asked for it in the first place. The problem isn't the game, it's the players.
Yeah, you're right. I had just admitted to another person pointing out my hypocrisy in making the lost at all.
However, I still truly feel that people who complain about something while also doing nothing at all to handle the situation on their own have no real right to complain about the issue. I get that it can be harder for some than others, but c'mon, at least TRY to avoid the thing causing you problems.

Don't get me wrong, if I somehow magically had the time and power to make BHVR take responsibility for all of its failings, I would absolutely do it. Heck, I'd probably do it just for fun more than a personal sense of justice at that point. Sadly, that's not the case.
I'd also re-evaluate what you think the definition of victim shaming is.
Victim shaming is when you blame the victim, even in part, for the negative actions that were directed to them by another party. You know, like saying they're a crying baby and it's their fault for not ignoring it when they get verbally abused.
To answer your question about what the purpose of "crying" is, it keeps awareness of the issue fresh in the developer's minds and (hopefully) one day will invoke a change.
---
Now, yes, thinking it will invoke a change is a tad optimistic at this point.
Still, it's the only thing someone who is passionate about an issue can do and I for one won't be the one to shame or discourage that. That would only imply we're okay with the situation to the developers, and again, give the toxic more power to continue on. Which is not something I personally want to happen.
So to any criers reading this, cry on! Know that there's people out there who knows it's wrong, and supports you as you speak out about it.
Thats a fair point. Honestly I guess I'm just so tired of seeing thread after thread of people talking about how toxic the game is when they also do nothing at all to actually handle the situations themselves.

Right now, you're the one crying
Care to explain how?

Nnnnno? "You don't have a right to complain about screaming manchildren who can only communicate in 'ggez uninstall #########' and 'i hope your mom dies of cancer' because you like talking to other people" isn't a sound stance.
If you think supremely toxic people have the right to harass everyone because I do have the ability to mute them along with everyone else... well, by that logic I can complain about whatever I like, can't I? Because you aren't obligated to listen and you can just step out of this thread.
This just sounds like trying to excuse slurs and awful people as a fact of life. Which is true, but it also doesn't mean we can or should put up with it. BHVR agrees. Literally the thing you are advocating for turning the other cheek to is against DBD's rules. It's a bannable offense. And while nobody likes the chat filter, they didn't implement it for shits and giggles. Evidently they see this as a problem.
Alright, I'll admit that you've got a very solid point. It's hypocritical for me to tell anyone to stop complaining.
However, if you believe BHVR isn't doing enough to handle the situation, why are continuing to support them by playing their game? That doesn't seem logical. If it's that big an issue, quit the game and play something else made by devs who truly react and ban the people who do such toxic things.

"Take the matter to your own hands and handle it instead of being children that cry about it to mommy and daddy BHVR."
If that isn't victim shaming, I don't know what is.
This is kind of what I meant by these views breeding self-centered views.
---
I get what you're trying to say - no one is going to help you, so you might as well help yourself. Right?
That would work better in most personal settings that deal with personal problems, but toxicity in a game like this is a societal problem in a public setting that is capable of being regulated by the paid entity who should be monitoring it.
Everyone here is paying for a service, which should be a regulated and safe environment to play in their downtime.
The user agreement every player signs that behaviour is expected to uphold literally states:
"eHarass, threaten, embarrass, or do anything else to another user that is unwanted, such as repeatedly sending unwanted messages or making personal attacks or statements about race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated."
In that way, it is entirely justified for players, especially those who are being bullied, to reach out and "cry" to BHVR to uphold their user agreement and enforce the policies they have their users acknowledge and agree to prior to playing. Something I'd argue they kind of fail at with what I believe to be a lackluster discipline system and deserves an abundance of criticism for.
Alright, so instead of crying on the forums, why aren't you sueing BHVR for not upholding their end of their own agreement? Instead crying to other players about it? What are you going to accomplish with that?
And again, it's not victim blaming or shaming. It's pointing out that people are making themselves victims. They are being targeted, and instead of moving out the way, they are allowing themselves to be shot in the face with toxicity.
You said it yourself, no one is helping you, so do it yourself. BHVR only cares to a degree. Obviously not enough to actually do what they need to to stop it from happening. Quit the game to show BHVR your disdain with their handling of the situation or quit crying.

yeah I am gonna leave this discussion because you're not worth my time.
Heeeyyyyy look my post worked. One less dude complaining about a problem that he can fix in a second, on his own. +1 to me

I'm not going to turn off chat when the majority of my interactions with people are friendly. Why would I let my rampant dislike for a vitriolic minority ruin the whole experience for me?
Ok, so don't? But also don't complain about toxicity. Accept the good with the bad, or stop complaining. It's that easy. Or just insta leave the toxic discussions. Another simple fix that requires 0 effort

They have no right to call anybody slurs. People might want to have a nice chat at the end
That's true. And I said that. However it's not gonna stop people from being horrible. So if you can't handle the bad, with the good, turn it off and quit complaining
