I only have one condition for playing her - as long as the phasing tell is "non-directional", I'm totally okay with playing her.
I don't mind survivors knowing she's phasing. Leaves the stand still mind-game still an option, but the survivors will know she's blinded either way and have more options.
(Otz had a good suggestion where a Phasing spirit should blink in and out of vision occasionally that can be explored)

It's okay, kiddo, sometimes you can be loudly wrong.
You're only adding credance to my assertation that you're being arrogant...
Please have a little more self-awareness. Frankly, I think that's most of the problem with the more negative influences in this community - is the complete utter lack of self-awareness.
-
No shame in realizing what your limit is. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to pick up next.

Calling it now - Spirit is going to go from god tier to trash tier and will eventually require a complete rework.

Yeah, no. I'm a killer main, just playing survivor there because I do like to have both sides under my belt. No killer should be rewarded for that, and no survivor should be punished for it. Let's be honest, he got those points because BHVR prefers there being no incentive to be better save personal pride and gumption.
The unearned arrogance of my fellow killers regarding camps is abysmal.
"No killer should be awarded for that."
Ah - another one who believes that if the killer loses all their gens, they should just take it on the chin like a good little boy. I'm sorry, but this game at it's core has always been about sudden reversals of fortune if you aren't careful.
No, the failure is squarely on the shoulders of the survivors. They could of cleansed the totems first, they could of just NOT FED the camper with NOED. They had valid counterplay and were just too full of themselves to use it.
No, the arrogance is coming from the survivors who don't use their counterplay - survivors who are controlled by people like you.
-
I've had several months of no playing several times.
Sometimes it's because I'm not happy with how the balance is
Sometimes I'm just tired of dealing with tiresome players who pitch a fit anytime they lose
I've learned that playing only one game and nothing else is bad for your outlook on the game, no matter how much you love it. I enjoy this game more now that I don't play it regularly.
-
Dude... the type of play you are talking about for Dead Hard? Most players don't fire it that way. And the few that do? You're just gonna have to get good enough to deal with it.
Dead Hard because it's manually fired and on such a long cool down is a fair and balanced perk and has plenty of counterplay
-
Holding W has always been an option in this game
Only reason that people are taking it seriously now is because a certain influencer starting prattling on about it and the mindless masses are just parroting it.
Survivors need a way to widen the gap between hits, end of story. Deal with it.
-
I'm one of the few who likes going up against Doctor. He's my main killer, so no big surprise I wouldn't mind facing him.
But I do like me some Pig, Pinhead, and Myers.
HATE facing - Hag and Trapper. I just hate having to watch the ground.

Just got facecamped by a Wraith who AFKed for 6 minutes to try his NOED/Blood Warden combo - which he got one exposed hit out of,and two hooks. Took me a minute to find the very last totem, and they popped the gens before I actually got it. Thanks to the Elfen Dwight I saved BT-ing me off the hook we all got out, but dang: it sucks to see stuff like that encouraged considering the Wraith's non-participation still netted him nearly double the BP of the survivors - none of whom were able to get enough benevolent or evader emblem points for even bronze.
Killers lose points - to a degree - if no other survivors are around. It's not enough to actually do anything about the problem - it's a bandaid, a patch theatre by which the devs pretend they see and care about the issue. They need to incentivize leaving the hook, on top of punishing those who stay without cause. Carrot and stick.
Yah no.... those points came from people be altruistic when honestly, they should of just left.
You survivors have the stick, you just refuse to use it. Let's be honest, he got those points due to your own greed for points and pride in trying to get everybody out.

I've never seen a gen rusher complain about gen rushing. Since there are so many of them, I suppose they like holding m1.
Truth right here - and it will set you free.
-
I used to have the same issue. But no longer. I've changed my outlook as follows.
Rule 1 - games should be about joy and fun. If you aren't having fun with it, turn it off and do something else. Consider quitting entirely if it gets to be too much (I'm looking at you World of Tanks and Warships. Love those games... but I recognize they constantly put me in a bad headspace and removed them from my life)
Rule 2 - Stop being concerned with how other people play. Don't take what other players do to beat or frustrate you as an attempt to enrage you, but as just a means to keep ahead. Understand you can't change how they play, only how you react to it.
Rule 3 - If at anytime you reach for the disconnect button, you may do so only one time.... and that's to quit the game for the night. If you are reaching for it but not hitting the button, use that as a moment to consider your mental health state and recall rule number 1
Rule 4 - Diversity your library and play several different games. We're lucky to be in an age where we have plenty of choice when it comes to games - make use of it.
Rule 5 - Keep one game that brings you joy no matter how mad you are installed and ready at all times to refresh your love of the medium AND put you in a good headspace. Believe it or not, this cold-hearted killer will return to something as dumb as Slime Rancher to mellow myself out (hard to be mad with a bunch of bouncing and happy slimes around you)
-
.......
FFS guys....
120 seconds to die on a hook
80 seconds to solo a generator
4 survivors, only 5 gens
I don't care that you find gens boring... the right call is to punish the killer by boring them to death with an empty game of one death.
going on 6 years and people still refuse to do what they're supposed to do...
-
Why does it matter?
I mean, if you feel you need to tunnel, they're obviously better than you and that's to be expected. If it's happening to you often, you need to get better.
Understand I don't think there's anything wrong with Tunneling - it's a personal choice either way. Survivors who dislike it just need to be better about forcing trades.
But trying to shame people into not tunneling is as silly as pissing into the wind.
-
Given the number of "both sides take a hit" I've experienced today from the killer side, I'm calling BS on the OP's opinion.
-
If you aren't always playing to win, you're doing it wrong.
if you can't handle the worst the game can throw at you, then you're in the wrong game - doesn't matter which side you play.
There is no shame in putting down a game you aren't having fun in.
-
I down them and put their sorry butt on a hook. This forces somebody off the gens to rescue them.
I don't expect survivors to stop gens because I get up, why should I stop doing what I do as a killer?
-
Guys, chill. He's ultimately an Extrinsically-motivated player that finds the new system unrewarding - there's nothing wrong with that.
But frankly, rather than trying to justify his motivations he should probabably walk away from this thread so the masses can move on to the next NOED or camping thread....
-
For the record, I just got one-hooked to 2nd stage, then moried.
I'm not sitting here crying about it. I've moved on with my life because I've accepted that really bad games just sometimes happen. You move on to the next trial or play something else.
People need to stop acting like getting pwned is somehow a bad thing. It just happens. Like death and taxes - we all get pwned. Deal with it.
-
Saying this is a dying game is nonsense. Data disputes your claim. If anything, it's grown slowly
-
@AnnaEliza365 said:
Why are you using premonition when spine chill exists? Genuine question.
I personally prefer Premonition because it gives me a general direction. This is valuable information to me because it can influence my next choice.
Also, smart stealth killers know now to play around Spinchill if they suspect it's in play. They can't counterplay premonition.
-
It's not a DBD thing, you see this in other games as well.
What it gets down to is there are certain players who can't adapt. And rather than actually putting in some effort or just plain old accepting that sometimes they're just going to get their ass handed to them, they deflect their shortcomings on to other.
Quite frankly, most of it is just a case of "I can't accept it's my fault, so I'm going to blame the meta built or this tactic being used"
-
Even assuming you're right and NOED isn't fine, dont' you think "Catch up mechanics" aren't an essential part of game design?
If NOED covers for bad play, can't you say the same for things like Borrowed Time or Dead Hard? Why are second chance perks like those two or even DS okay and NOED isn't?
Hypocritical Bullshit
-
sample size too small. not enough games to get to where things getting hard
Ergo, your data is incomplete.
-
If killer isn't fun anymore, either switch to survivor or stop playing completely. There's no shame in either choice.
-
Keep it
I don't mind occasionally getting screwed by occasionally strong add-ons. Frankly, I'm more likely to be killed by dumbass teammates then a powerful add-on from the killer anyway.
-
I'm only ever a solo survivor. I always play to the end. if I ever feel the need to give up, I give up for the whole night.
Never start up a game unless you are prepred to take the worst the game throws at you. to do any less is rude to the other players.
-
Otz is no more an authority on the game than anybody else with too much time on their hands to play this game
Frankly, as long as perks that allow people to cover up their mistakes such as Dead Hard exist, NOED has a right to exist. I don't care how much clout you have.
-
I support punishment for DCing repeatedly for sure.
But.... I recognize that there is some performance issues for certain consoles - and I'll gladly give up a DC penalty if they'd take the time to help our Console cousins first.
-
I generally avoid these forums most of the time because it kills any desire I have to play the game.
It's completely fine for people to ask for things in the game to be fixed and I support their right to do that (even if I disagree)
But I'm really sick of players ripping into each other because they disagree on play-styles or builds. That's just so counter-productive not just to the community, but the person making the complaint. It's an utter waste of time to expect others to play in a matter that is pleasing to you.
-
I'll sign it. Our console cousins deserve the love.
-
I can't believe this is still a discussion after all these years.
Survivors can stack all the second-chance perks they want to cover for their mistakes - but heavon-forbid a Killer decides to go a perk short most of the match to buy end-game power and cover for his own mistakes.
We're all human - we all screw up. Perks are there to help us cover our weaknesses or sharpen where we are strong. They are there to be used. Calling people for their choice of perks because they want to win (no matter the side), is just dumb and needs to stop.
-
They likely don't realize it and are focused on just getting away.
But this is why I run Bond when I'm taking the game seriously. It both allows me to avoid teammates who are doing gens or healing and it warns me if a teammate is coming my way with an angry package in tow.
More people frankly, should be running the perk.

Fortnite is much bigger game then DBD.
DBD needs licenses to survive.
I laugh at this because there is a significant portion of the playerbase that likes the DBD original killers better than the licensed ones.

Just clone the whole Stranger things chapter, change the skins and music and release it as an original chapter. Problem solved. Those who already own stranger things can get it for free.
Same with the map: change the textures, remove some very stranger things specific stuff and now you have a new map with the same layout.
I wouldn't put it past them to make a character inspired by Demi. I mean, afterall, we do have Hillbilly AND Leatherface (but to be fair, the order was reversed in that case).
But... it's an option. Having another character simular in aesthetic is not out of the question.
-
I thought it when I first saw it, but the evidence points overwhelmingly more to Hellraiser.
Samara would be cool though. I love that creepy chick.
-
Removing hands from the generators makes the game easier going forward. While perma-death exists, this will always be a viable strategy.
Ergo, it is the killer's objective to kill survivors. Wither or not you agree is irrelevant.
-
DO THE GENS
You can solo a gen in 80 seconds
it takes 120 seconds for a survivor to die on first hook
There are 4 survivors.
I'll let you do the math from here.
-
I only run Empathy if I don't have Bond on the survivor I'm playing yet. Bond doesn't have quite the range, but it gives me a ton more information in exchange.
-
I get it that the chase is a big part of the game, so I understand some people's frustrations at such a simple tactic.
But I find that hyperfocusing on this and not seeing the ways killers make up time with their powers does nothing for the conversation.
For example - I as a Doc main don't mind longer chases so much because I literally spend zero time trying to find somebody. So little of my time is wasted finding people, I can afford to spend a little more time in a chase.
But I think the problem many killers are having is that they aren't willing to give up a chase when they really should. I mean, if I actually get stopped at a pallet and the guy holds W, I take out the pallet then move on then pressure somebody else off a gen. There's always a weaker link I can find and down.
Frankly, I see the hold W thing that's been around since day 1 to be a non-issue. The problem is certain influencers who overestimate how much the top-tier balance actually matters in the context of the entire game.
-
Nobody is under any obligation to play how you want regardless of the offerings brought or not
The sooner you realize that and accept it, the less frustrating multiplayer gaming is in general.

Doc has some very strong points in his favour as he finds it easy to find survivors and he has counterplay aganst excessive pallet-looping or windows so he makes a pretty good starter Killer.
Still the fact that you are so strong initially may make it hard to get used to other killers who lack those skills. Personally I think maybe Wraith is a better choice as he is a pretty basic M1 Killer abeit with very fast movement speed.
You are right about how Doc can make you bad at tracking with other killers if you play him too much. As a Doc main I've personally experienced this anytime I try to play another killer. Because he's just so damn good at locating people, it makes a person who doesn't diversify his killer play time really lazy in the tracking department.
If I play the doc for a really long time, it's almost as if I forget to check corners or watch for crows sometimes.
Wraith is indeed a good choice for a new player.
-
Probably the hardest thing for a new killer to understand is that while it seems intuitive to just camp a hook or keep focusing the same player, it's not always the most tactically sound option available to you. At the most fundamental level, you as a killer should be focusing on buying yourself more time to catch survivors in mistakes - and you do that by keeping as many hands off generators as possible.
Every second a survivor is on a generator is time you are losing - and time is something you will never have enough of. So while it seems smart to camp a hook - if nobody is coming to the rescue - you're going to lose bad. Because here's the simple math
- It takes 120 seconds for a survivor to die on a hook on first hook (60 seconds per stage)
- It takes only 80 seconds for a survivor to solo a completely dead generator.
- There are 4 survivors.
So basically, if you camp and the survivors are wise to what you are up to, they may decide to leave their teammate to rot and pound out 3 generators.... that's more than half their objective lost and you've only got one kill. Generally, it's better to chase somebody else once you got one hooked as you are pretty much guarateed to have 3/4ths of the survivor team off generators that way (one on the hook, one going for the rescue, and the one you're chasing)
It's not to say you shouldn't stay at the hook at all. If people are being aggressively altruistic and you know most of the team is not on a generator when you are at the hook, you literally have no reason to leave at that point.
And lastly - some general advice
- Play how you want. There are no rules against camping or tunneling. If you wish to do these things, you can. If you don't want to do these things, then don't. But keep in mind what I said above as camping blindly will make you lose against the good survivors.
- Gameplay itself is not toxic - it's only toxic if you choose to put that meaning on it. So somebody clicking flashlights at you, body blocking you, constantly blinding, abusing the crouch key, or looping you.... that's just them trying to win as hard as you are. Accept the challenge and don't let it get to you.
- If despite what I just said previously you still feel yourself get frustrated and you ever feel like disconnecting, put the game down for the night. You aren't helping yourself or anybody else by continuing to play on tilt. This community has too many salty players who don't know when to turn the game off already.
Welcome to the fog
-
Nobody in the match is under any obligation to farm when offerings are in play.
Deal with it.
-
so you got triggered by legit gameplay.....
You might want to stop and think about that.
-
say it with me everybody
REMOVE PERK TIERS
REMOVE PERK TIERS
REMOVE PERK TIERS
-
I will give you one more piece of advice because I sense you might be reluctant to leave hooks (which is normal for new killers)
The game isn't so much about removing people from play as soon as possible (although that does help you to remove somebody from play), but about buying yourself time.
You see, your greatest friend as killer is time. The more time you have in the game, the more pallets will get broken and the more and more unsafe the trial gets for the survivors.
Every second a survivor is on a generator is time you are losing to beat them. Hooking somebody only removes one pair of hands from the generator. If you pressure nobody else and nobody comes to save them because you're there, you've got 3 sets of hands ticking away time on generators... taking time away from YOU.
However, if you chase somebody else while somebody has hooked, you have effectively pulled THREE people off generators and bought yourself time because you're chasing somebody, you got somebody hooked, and another person has to go rescue the person who got hooked.
So it's generally a good idea to keep yourself busy chasing and pressuring people off gens. Even if it means breaking off a hard chase to find somebody easier or to get somebody off a gen you see them on.
Remember, it takes 120 seconds for a first hook survivor to completely die... but only 80 seconds for a single survivor to do a generator from zero percent to completely finished.
That means a good survivor pressures the gens, and a good killer shoes them away. But still, if you got easy prey right there in front of you and they're freshly unhooked, don't be afraid to knock them down and put them back on that hook if you want. Especially if they have idiot teammates that rush the hook without the Borrowed Time perk.
Good luck in the fog newbie.
-
16 seconds to cleanse a totem.... 16 seconds of holding a button to get a free 1k points and progress on your Lightbringer emblem. You have no reason to NOT do totems than other freakin' laziness.
-
My advice to you is simply thus....
PLAY HOW YOU WANT
No matter what you do, somebody is going to be upset with you. If you play hard, the casuals will be mad at you. If you farm points, people like myself will be bored. Do your objective, you'll get accused of tunneling or gen rushing.
You are responsible for YOUR FUN AND YOUR FUN ALONE. If you find it satisfying to rotate survivors on hooks, then have at it. If you want to tunnel the same person down, have at it.
If people get mad because they don't like how you play, it's their problem, not yours. It's them who have the insane idea that randoms are supposed to play in a way THEY like which is just a good way to get pissed off.
People need to stop caring how other people play against them. If they can't handle the worst the game throws at them, they shouldn't be playing in the first place.
-
I have a better question, it's a legit tactic... so why do you care?
If it gets them the results they want, then it doesn't matter what you or anybody else thinks.
