I'd say don't blame the killer, blame the survivor who didn't make sure the killer was occupied first. Most killers I know won't break an active chase to run back to the hook unless the hook is conveniently nearby.
I don't know how many times I've had chuckleheads call me a "camper" when they got these hook farmers knockin' people off hooks when I haven't even taken 3 steps away.
And even in the cases where they legit didn't have to go back but choose too, it's not against the rules in any way - it's a tactic, nothing else. Being skillful with your rescues and learning how to be aware enough to not be a target AFTER being rescued is an essential part of being a team player - a skill that I'm afraid half the playerbase just outright lacks.

How is getting close and instadowning abusive? They are just playing a worse billy/bubba.
My thoughts exactly. She's essentially a slower bubba/billy with only one shot at getting you. They're basically saying that Bubba and Billy are abusive and OP as well.
-
Everybody focuses on the gens, but it can be argued you have two other objectives
- Keep the killer occupied or distracted
- DO THE BONES
-
It's starting to be a fun game of mine to say "Sluzzy?" anytime I see a heavily biased anti-killer discussion started.
@Phasmamain said:
I actually somewhat agree with this. Blight definitely isn’t OP but a lot of maps now have too much space between loops where a decent blight can almost guarantee a hit. Also some of his add ons namely alchemist ring and speed add ons are kinda busted
But overall this is more a map issue and a killer issue
That can be said for other killers though. The map has strong spots that vary from killer to killer. This is nothing new and is part of the need to adapt to what you are facing.
-
Rank resets just need to be locked in place - period. I don't care what system they put into place, you just can't let people have an easy way down the ranks.
Every time I take a long break from this game and get busted down to the yellow ranks, it's nothing but n00b stomping for most o the night when I come back simply because I have no business being there. Then I get unfounded accusations of depipping myself when frankly I can't be arsed to play this game all the time and maintain my rank.
Then the only thing we gotta worry about is smurf accounts. Frankly, anybody who wants to do the bloodpoint grind again for a smurf is insane anyway, but whatever.
-
It's been good for me. I'm much more hesitant to hit the button because of it. And when I find myself reaching for it, the knowledge of it pulls me up short and makes me consider my mental state.
As a result, I play the game a lot less while mad now which is better for everybody.
I stand by what I've always said - you aren't aren't in the right mental headspace to handle the occasional unfun match, then you have no business in multiplayer games to begin with.
-
Additional thought - Letting people go and get into the high ranks also makes their Dunning-Kruger effect worse; they think their good when they actually aren't.... Then they berate people who actually are playing good because the gameplay that's beating them is "unfun and toxic"

Sitting in the solo survivor queue for 20+ minutes and I just want to know everyone's thoughts.
As survivor I don't mind giving newb killers' kills, I don't care about rank. As Killer I also don't mind giving the hatch to cute baby Dwights.
However with the SBM matchmaking if I gave pity kills/escapes I probably be making it worse for new survivors/killers... They place higher in the SBM system and face harder opponents.
So if the SBM matchmaking comes into place does this mean we have to sweat every game??
As a casual solo survivor/killer I would hate this... I play the game for fun not for escapes/kills. If I think you're a newer survivor/killer I will take it easier on you, but because of the SBM I would have to play 100% every time :(
I know it will be abused but sometimes I wish we had a ranked mode and a casual mode (we all know casual mode would be filled with tryhards..), balancing a 1v4 game like this is hard I know, but to be honest ranked matchmaking was more fun than this.
Sorry for the rant, I've had too many whiskeys and just want to play a casual game and vent.
That's my thoughts, what do you guys think?
Hate to break it to you, but the game is already like you describe which is why 2/3rds of the people in red ranks are actually pretty bad against a good player.
This is why I generally just play ruthless - if they can't get past somebody like me who's crap at the game, they really don't want to go up against somebody better than me

F.E.A.R. is a game series.
Also, I heavily support this. F.E.A.R. is awesome and Alma or Paxton could easily serve as a decent Killer, and the Pointman a good survivor given what he's been through.
Pointman is an interesting choice as a survivor - how would you translate his time dilation into a perk?
-
First rule of not getting tunneled - be a harder target to chase than the next guy.
Most experienced killers will drop you in favor of the weakest link even if you're just a mediocre looper.

So nothing is toxic and it's all in our heads?
The thing is, this game doesn't allow for much for communication other than a point, hitting ctrl repeatedly, and beckon. Well, I guess circling if you like. But with limited ways to communicate "hey, chase me!", it's not surprising that many would resort to a way that many CHOOSE to find provocative would use that method.
As for killer's hitting survivors, it's a challenge that screams "I'm camping this guy, you going to do something about it?" Frankly, it's stupid - but to choose to call it something other than a bad tactic (as it's feeding survivors information) is on the player. To me, it's a signal to slam gens, nothing more.
Camping - killer might not know better or have a challenge
tunneling - see above
pointing/t-bagging - see my previous statements
Anything that the devs have specifically called out as an exploit we shouldn't do - that's rulebreaker and deserves to be called out as that - but again the player may not know better.
Rather than getting upset when you can't 100% sure know the reason behind it is just inviting yourself to have a negative attitude about the game, causing YOU to be toxic in retaliation. It's better to just give people the benfit of the doubt when it comes to gameplay - it's just better that way
In the end, we need to be focusing on the bad-actors who act so vile just because they lost at a flippin' video game.
-
@danielmaster87 said:
How is flashlight clicking and tbagging not toxic? Or hitting on hook?
First two are attention seeking techniques. You can choose to NOT get upset by it or take it seriously.
3rd one is the killer taking out frustration or being bored. Again, you can choose NOT to get upset by it or take it seriously.
These things are not on the same level as death threats, wishing harm on others, and other things that should be called toxic, so stop using the word for it.
-
I love Alma - she's easily my favorite
I play through all the F.E.A.R. games every October. I have every appearance of Alma memorized in the first two games.
Anotherwords, she can't jump scare me anymore. But.... she still sends a cold chill down my spine everytime I see that damn girl.
<3 Alma to death
But.... because I love her so much, I doubt DBD could do her justice.

Not really. In two days nobody will care anymore.
I can point you to a content creator that said that and turned out to be TERRIBLY wrong.
-
I'm not going to get upset about it just yet. If I see other fog whisperers go, I'll consider it cleaning house and move on.
If we just lose the 1, however, I'm going to have some serious questions
-
I have to say - it's nice seeing people willing to engage in trying to do something about it.
And I really appreciate seeing people starting to divorce legit gameplay from the word. If we want to root out the worst in our community and make it unacceptable, we need to be targeting those who really need to be targetted - the people who make these nasty remarks to each other over losing in a flippin' video game.
Sitting here and arguing about legit gameplay being toxic is pulling attention from the undesirables we should be railing against - those who abuse each other verbally and say vile things BECAUSE THEY LOST.
I have no problems with people saying they find a particular manner of play boring or unfun - but lumping it together as Toxic to me is a form of Hyperbole that has gotten out of hand and is akin to lumping certain political positions with the 3rd Reich... it's just so counterproductive to engage in such pointless rhetoric and closes discussion.

Did NOED get nuked in the few weeks I took off from the game and forum? I'm not seeing a NERF NOED listed as one of the options.

You could assume my intentions if you wish, but it was just me being curious to hear what the person I was replying to had to say
The DBD community has enough moral grandstanders and shamers, I'd rather not be lumped in with them if it's all the same to you.
Excellent, you just made my point. Let me explain.
I honestly didn't mean anything behind what I said other than just using your comment as an example about "reading intentions". My intention was only to draw an example, not lump you in with a group.
And yet, you read my intentions to be far more sinister than they actually were. (unless of course, you really did understand my point and was trying to tease me by misreading me - at which point I will just say "Well played sir")
Same can be said about what anybody sees in the game.
-
Wither there is an intent behind it or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is how you CHOOSE to react to it. Because it is a conscious choice to put meaning behind it, it is a conscious choice to take personally something they probably do to every other player they come across in a game that is very limited in it's forms of communications.
-
@Brokenbones said:

They don't have to, but should they try to?
I feel that is a personal choice. However, you should not expect anybody you don't know to live by those rules. If you feel good playing in what you view is a more honorable or nice matter - most of us are okay with it. What we take exception to is getting upset when others don't share the same attitude as you do.
Choosing to not get upset when people when people play in a way you preceive is mean is just that, a CHOICE. Such as right now right now, it's a personal choice of mine to accept what you said as an honest question. However, I COULD interpret it as a veiled attempt to socially shame others into playing your way.

In my opinion everything it's the intention behind the strategies or use of item that is toxic, not the actual strategy or item itself.
The problem is, it's not always possible to read the intention behind a particular strategy - especially if a Rift challenge, achievement, or daily ritual might be easier to achieve by using that strategy
Which is why I usually default to "there's no meaning behind it". And if I can't tell myself that there's no meaning behind it and start taking it personally, I realize I'm not in the right mental headspace and turn the game off.
Frankly, I think the fact people keep playing pissed off when they start taking things personally is a lot of the problem. McCote's advise to "Go do something else" might be meme'd to death - but he isn't wrong.
-
I will repeat this till I'm blue in the face.
- Unlock all 4 perk slots at level one.
- In addition to their teachables, every new character should get Unleashed or Kindred for the 4th slot.
- REMOVE PERK LEVELS - ALL PERKS ARE EARNED AT THEIR CURRENT LEVEL 3 POWER
-
Thank you for at least breaking-down what we mean by "counter playing" or "mind gaming" a spirit. Not that the people who need to see it and understand will "get it" mind you - but if you get at least a couple people to think about it, I think the effort was worth it.
-
I think farming killers are boring to go against myself, but I'm not going to insult anybody over it. I just pound out gens a GTFO so a more interesting match which is what people SHOULD do if they aren't enjoying the match.... get it done and move on with their lives.
-
No thanks, I don't want to be beholden to the playing ability of randoms.
You'll be back.... after you've dealt with random stupidity long enough....

I would argue that the charm is necessary in order to FORCE the conversation. It's obvious there are people in the world who find their ancient taboos against LGBT too dear to them. But they aren't going to be forced to release their grip on these out-dated and ultimately unnecessary beliefs unless it becomes socially acceptable among most people for LGBT people to be open about what they are. Display of these charms normalizes the existence of these people in the eyes of society and makes it more and more socially unacceptable for these hold-outs to be the way they are.
So bring them on and let the haters hate.
People are going to play the way they want regardless of the charms you display.

I'm just tired of hearing something that was nerfed into the ground being branded by a dev as "Toxic"
But then turning around with a 2 second blurb about keys and not saying the dreaded T word about them one bit.
Both are shortcuts to the player objective, what is the f'ing difference.
I'm usually the first to call out people who say the devs are biased - but when they behave like this, it makes me feel like such a fool
Guess it's time to burn every single Mori offering I have now while I have them.
-
Having moving hallucinations and moving hag illusions would be great add-ins
-
"When I was hooked, you started to repair."
Actually, this is not too bad. Especially if the killer is camping. If the killer is camping and I see people do repairs, I'll happily struggle as hard as I can and give my team all the time they need to get out.
It takes 120 seconds to die on a hook 60 seconds for each stage
But only 80 seconds to solo a gen that wasn't even started yet.
If somebody wants to take 15 seconds to finish off a gen or do something productive while they scope out the situation with their aura perks, I'm all for it
Personally, I'll happily take the 2 minutes to die on first hook if my team is all working gens to punish the camping killer. After that two minutes, I can roll another game and get on with my life.
-
@valvarez4 said:
Survs only need a small version of kindred, only the survs aura reading. And kindred should show killer aura and give you 10% of additional hook time
There's already a perk for that - it's called Bond. Frankly, I don't understand why more people don't run it - the amount of info it gives you is insane. And it's not a perk you have to pay for as it's a Dwight perk. It's part of my standard build on my main Survivor when I solo-Q.
-
The point of the traps really isn't about getting kills, but taking survivors off gens. Look at it as having a free gen defense perk. Not many killers can say that.
That's actually the biggest reason she's not considered the weakest simply because she has that built in slow-down.
-
It's my understanding they're still tinkering with it in the background, and occasionally turning it on without telling us so they can collect data for further fine-tuning.
-
I've been harping on BE to unlock all the perk slots at level 1 AND give Kindred and Unleashed as a free perk for that 4th slot for years now. I know it's not perfect, but it will at least address some of the new player issues and make the game feel considerably less unfair as they can at least slot a full rack of perks. (and they should take it a step further and give them their 3 teachables AND the free perks above at their full level 3 power. It's not like they don't have a ton of other perks they need to grind for at this point.... FFS)
It's hard to make a killer not camp when they're new as it's not readily apparent that better pressure is achieved most of the time by chasing somebody else. And it doesn't particularly help that new survivors don't realize they shouldn't be feeding a camping killer...

It's just in good fun. We've only been dodged twice but some of the killers have been pretty cool about it. They assumed we were going to go super try hard but it was some really chill matches. Other's completely lost it, though lol. Saying I wasted their perk/perks but in general, we didn't go out of our way to torture the killer. Our Q-times have been really fast, though. Usually 10-15 seconds each time. Just thought it would be funny to watch and I wasn't disappointed lol. For reference, I've seen others' do this to me and I've fell for it once or twice and at the end, I thought it was really well done so I wanted to try it with my friends. Just something niche' to spice up the game.
Besides, with people complaining about NOED, SWFs, Keys and other things, it's nice to see some change in the forums for once. At least, to me, it was nice to see something different from the usual threads. Look at the bright side on the matter, you don't have to worry about those flashlights lol.
I generally don't care about flashlights or even SWF. I'm usually the type that's "play like you want". I just find last minute switches to be a bit underhanded when I don't dodge lobbies outright as a rule.
-
Hmm... so if a killer decides to show respect by not dodging a lobby outright when he sees something like that, you game the system with a last minute switch.
Sorry, but that would be a hard "Task Manager> End process: Dead by Daylight" from me. Enjoy being sent back to the Q man.
Co'mon man, you trying to make the survivor Q's longer?
-
@WormMilk said:
Killers just get mad that they lose a chase or drop a survivor to a flash light. I forgot what the perks called but there's a perk where flashlights don't affect you and you see the survivors aura after they try and use the flashlight on you so if people are really that upset about it they would just use that perk. Now ofc there's survivors that try so hard to get a flashlight on the killer and fail horribly everytime which can be very annoying for survivors but either way it's not bad to use it.
It's called Lightborn. Nice niche perk. I've dusted it off a couple times recently when I was in the mood to mess with flashlight squads.
-
4/5ths of the playerbase is not that good at the game. wouldn't expect them to balance around the red ranks anytime in the near future.... if ever.
-
A term scrubs use when they are incapable of pressuring survivors off their objective.
Much like scrubs call killers campers or tunnelers instead of doing what's needed to block the killer from their objective
-
depends on what stresses you
If you can't multitask - killer
If you can't deal with dumbasses holding your team back, survivor
-
It's funny that survivors can stack second-chance perks all over the place, but heaven forbid killer uses one tied to totems.
-
Kinda figured this was coming to be honest. And not terribly surprised it came this fast either.
Given DS cancels itself on an action, I'm not terribly concerned about it. We see somebody healing or on a generator, we can still assume them to be fair game and put them back on the meathook where they belong.

Its bit about punishing them for their intent behind it, it's about removing it becusse it's terribly boring as the survivors. Similar to keys the survivors intent may be to escape or to be toxic when using them but it doesn't matter becuase it's annoying as all hell for the killer.
"It's terribly boring for survivors"
Oh for the love of the entity...
Failure state isn't supposed to be fun. Your Failure state is supposed to put you in a situation you want to avoid. It's also there to use YOU as bait against your team. You increase the timer for any reason, you remove that pressure..... on a class that already is already become so stressful to play that your q's have gotten longer because people don't want to play killer anymore.
All because a bunch of people are too damn lazy to do the right thing and counter that pressure by popping gens!
DO

I think some people just fail to get what the issue is because it's not being explained well.
Tricker doesn't fit well into DBD's Aesthetic which has always had a focus on the grotesque with it's killer characters. It's not "he's some guy with a weapon", he just doesn't fit into the game's dark and brooding overall motif. Even the clowns various costume has some level of decay with them
Trickster doesn't match that level of grotesque or decay. While the idea of a handsome monster is fine and dandy, I think the break from the theme is so great with him, it makes him seem really out of place with what the game has presented us so far.
There's nothing wrong with a handsome monster if it fits where he's at. I'm a personal fan of characters like Dextor or Lucien LaCroix that can pass as a normal human but are monsters inside. But I wouldn't ask for them to come to this game because they just don't fit this game's current art aesthetic.
Trickster breaks that aesthetic.
