  • My only objection to Springtrap is the annoying fanbase (same with Pennywise) and the fact that Scott is a homophobic piece of #########. If Scott isn't getting anymore money from the license, then I could probably deal with it.

Game already has a bunch of cringy kids in it, that's a moot point.

Tbh, there is nothing wrong with Springtrap at all. And little did many players of dbd knew, is that there is a lot of dbd players that are in fact furries. And there is a lot of kids that are 11 and up who play dbd anyways. There is nothing that the devs could do about children going onto Dead by Daylight unless if their parents have a parental setting set up to prevent their child from playing 18+ video games.

Fnaf isn't full of cheap jumpscares and yes, it would support someone that does somewhat support homophobic. But that doesn't take away from the fact that fnaf is the worlds most iconic horror video game series of all time. And the jumpscares set up a good setting for the game and gives a spine chilling vibe.

And so therefore, fnaf is a good choice for a license character.

Calling FNAF "The most iconic horror game series of all time" when Silent Hill exists is like saying the Star Wars prequel is the most iconic star wars of all time when "The Empire Strikes Back" exists.

  • I've always interpreted the difficulty in how difficult the killer's POWER is to use WELL.

Wraith is intermediate because while mechanically his power is easy to use - using it tactically isn't immediately straightforward till you put a few hours in and start to realize how you can use his power to block escapes or shorten a loop. It's the same for the Doctor - his power is easy to use for finding people, but using it in the chase effectively requires peerless foresight and timing.

Trapper is considered easy because his power is not only easy to use, but being effective with it is very straight-forward and doesn't require a lot of tactical or mechanical skill to use it well.

The difficulty has never been about how powerful the killer is - just how hard they are to use well. Which is why a mid-tier killer like Trapper is considered easy while S tier killers like Nurse are considered hard.

  • Eh... you don't like Boil Over - then start running Iron Grip and quit complaining.

  • Stretch res is 100% cheating as it's giving you an advantage over the common player outside of your personal skill.

That being said - as it's something literally built into some video cards outside of the game, I have my doubts the devs really can do anything about it anyway. It's probably going to plague us to the end of time.

  • Point to where the OP is wrong please.

If a person can only have fun winning, then they need to not play PvP games anyway. It's okay to try your hardest to win as long as you can handle the other side doing the same. If you can still have fun losing even when giving it your all, then have at it.

If you can't handle losing - then just don't log in and do something else.

Before I log into this game (which is rare now), I ask myself "Can I handle the worst this game can throw at me". If the answer is no (Which it often is), I just don't play.

Know your mental fortitude and headspace, and act accordingly - you'll be happier. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to play anygame. It doesn't matter what your friends are doing, it doesn't matter what's "popular". The right choice is to play the game YOU can have fun with in that moment.

If you sit down and your first thought is "Hopefully players won't do X tactic to me and ruin my good time", you're in the wrong game

  • Orion first got my attention by having the name of a well-liked and respected friend I missed from my Total Annihilation days. Then they impressed me by having one of the few people I feel like was actually intellectually honest and open to have their mind changed.

Such things are a rarity on this board.

I dont know what you are talking about with fashion thing and politics. Thats not the debate.

Right over your head.... I'll put it plainly.

Your post is bait trying to get a rise out of people. You're doing it because you have this extreme caricature of what you think woke culture is and it enrages you. And thus, you are lashing back in said anger in an effort to "Get them back".

  • @Anara said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2573317#Comment_2573317

No. Woke culture is a self centred movement of people who think they are superior than others.

Im just honest and I have my opinion. Woke people cant stand others opinions, they just think they are right about everything even if they are wrong.

They just want to do unecessary battle to make themself better. They dont help anybody.

I would argue that your disparaging use of the word is more combative and does nothing to help the conversation. If anything, it was worded in such a way to get a rise out of people, to "troll them". To "own" people of a particular political leaning so to speak.

No... the unnecessary battle here is from you with the use of such inflammatory posts. This makes you just as bad as the strawman-totem you and your tribe has fashioned to represent "woke culture". Not that certain elements on the other side of the aisle are much better.

1.Look up the definition of ponzi scheme and pyramid scam

    2. Ok now combine that with tons of unnecessary energy waste that causes damage to the enviroment

    3. Now combine that with people stealing art to make into nft's against the artist's wishes

    4. And combine that with how some of the developers at bhvr are angry that their work is being used in a nft promotion

    5. Now combine that with the fact they lied to us when they said they weren't working with nfts

    1) Using a block-chain to certify a purchase is not exactly a pyramid scam.

    2) this argument is the only valid argument I can find against NFT's. But it can be argued that it's only a small sliver of the damage we're already doing by just sitting in front of our devices eating up power off the grid in our air-conditioned rooms that are venting even more heat into the environment.

    3) The technology is just a tool. Tools can be misused like anything else.

    4) If they work for the developer, they're work for hire and thus their word no longer belongs to them anyway. This in and of itself is dumb, but it's how the world works. They are, however, entitled to their opinion and I will defend that opinion.

    5) I have no remark on that as I haven't back-tracked that one to confirm or deny it.

  • OMG.... I'm not even outraged about NFT and even I'm beyond disgusted with the OP's disparaging use of "Woke Culture".

The idea behind being "Woke" is that you are mindful and aware of the potential harm you can do to others and your environment through thoughtlessness. By disparaging such an idea of being mindful, you have revealed yourself to be a thoughtless sociopath with no empathy to those around you and thus can be safely ignored.

  • Which was my understanding - they just provided the model for another to use NFT - they themselves didn't utilize the block chain in anyway.

Whole bunch of manufactured outrage because NFT's are the "We hate this" of the month I guess.

  • Of all the things people choose to be enraged about, they're enraged about THIS?

I've looked into the arguments against this. While I can certainly get behind the power required to run a block-chain being harmful to the environment and what-not, I'm not so sure about the rest of the arguments I've seen. Especially the entire nonsense of "they're selling things that have no value".

The whole "no value" argument makes me laugh because everything we hold as having value was at one point worthless until somebody found a way to make it valuable. I have a box full of Magic cards that I could probably get value out of if I dug through them - but it's just cardboard. I can point to people who thought comic books who thought comic books are inherently worthless. The change sitting in our pockets that the metal is worth LESS than the value of the metals they are made of.

Things have value if people perceive they have value. And wither or not it's a fad is yet to be seen. (remember when people said Rock N Roll was just a fad?)

Frankly, I'd rather wait and see how this plays out before I get up and arms about this kind of thing. Expecially when there are much more straight-forward things we could be roasting the devs bout - like the plague of cheaters in the game.

  • If you find yourself ALT-F4ing a lot, you probably shouldn't even be playing the game in the first place.

I'm not saying that to be mean - just trying to save you some grief.

I myself am on a break from the game due to the visable uptick I've seen in legit cheating going on. So rather than frustrate myself, I go play something else.

  • A long time ago I once pointed out I'd love to see a Puppetmaster/dollmaker killer that could drop his creations in the world. The power of said creations would depend greatly on the addins in play. A few powers that they could have would include

    • Aura reading
    • Having the ability to latch onto survivors and prevent them from interacting until removed by another survivor. However, said doll also creates a terror radius.
    • The iridescent could allow the killer to "channel" power into the doll attached to a survivor in an attempt to jockey them to a less favorable position.

Couple years later we got the twins... I couldn't help but wonder if BE saw my idea and went their own direction with it. Not that I mind though. While it wasn't quite what I was after, it was cool to see they ran with the idea and gave us victor.

  • I'm not sure. But I definitely don't play it as much as I used to. And I usually need a couple drinks before I even consider logging in.

Thing is, I love the game. It's the community I have an issue with. I keep coming back in the vain hope that maybe I can talk some sense into some of these people. I think deep down I still love the game enough that I want to push back against the worst parts of this community as I see much of my former self in a lot of them... a former self full of rage over a flippin' video game. I remember always being mad at games.... then I saw it in my own kids and realized what an idiot I was being over something that should bring joy.

So I keep coming back and pushing back against the rage over things that people have no control over in hopes I can turn people away from their path of disappointment.

  • All I can offer you is what I personally did to remove my own negative attitude in the game. I can't guarantee it will help all the time, but it will at least make you more self-aware of your play and mental state. These are the rules I personally follow myself.

The first step I took in removing my negative attitude in this game is acknowledging that a tactic is a tactic, and I have no control how other people play (repeat it to yourself over and over). It's on me to beat them and nobody else. I should always expect others to pull every dirty trick in the book and deal with it. Even if that means repeating it to myself over and over. This also frees a person to act in the same manner without shackling themselves to made up rules which I feel is the source of much frustration.

The second step I took in removing my negative attitudes in this game was asking myself one simple question after every match I found myself frustrated at. That question is "Where did I make a mistake?". I operated under the premise that nobody is perfect and thus I should always be able to find something I could of done differently. And if I made a mistake, I have no right to be upset that I got beat. And true enough, I always could find something I could of done differently - a wrong decision here, a bad execution there. And once I found it, I would verbalize it in an attempt to acknowledge that I bore responsibility for my loss. (it also helps in acknowledging that you made a mistake to also say "it's okay, all people make mistakes")

The third step I took was asking myself before I even log in is "Can I handle the worst this game can throw at me today?" if not, then I don't log in. People like to meme on McCote for saying "if you aren't enjoying the game, go play something else for awhile like CivV". But can you point where in that statement he's wrong?

The last step I took was enforcing a rule on myself... I'm allowed to ragequit only once. If I do ragequit, I have to turn the game off for the rest of the night because I'm no longer in the right headspace and shouldn't be playing.

There is no guarantee that you won't get another camper in your next game. And even if it's "just" 5 minutes, why is that okay? Why is it okay for someone to just ruin the fun of other people?

Besides... if you do it enough you'll eventually train them that it's not profitable.

Camping complaints are as old as the game itself. Your advice is too. How many more years do you think it will take for the campers to stop? Apparently five years was not enough.

My advice is old because PEOPLE REFUSE TO TRAIN THESE KILLERS OTHERWISE.

I guarantee that if players actually punished these killers properly, you'd see less of them. And even if they are a legit salt-miner looking to get a rise out of you - too many in this community feed said trolls by giving them the salt they're feeding on.

This community is in a purgatory of their own making - but they're so entitled or lacking in self-awareness they just can't see it.

  • Here's another point I think a lot of people completely overlook. And this applies no matter what type of matchmaking this game uses.

If I go easy against my opponant, the matchmaker isn't going to be able to read the context behind the results of the game. All it will register is the win or loss for us in either instance.

If the opponant I'm beating the snot out of can't beat me, then I'm not doing them any favors moving them up the ranking, I'm just guarateeing they're going to go up against somebody who's objectively better than me and will potentially stomp them harder than I can dream of.

And yet, there's a subset of people who overlook this fact and rank up people who have no business being ranked up... then the community wonders why the matchmaker is so bad..... it's bad because people have this misguided attitude they should "go easy" on their opponents and thus people end up in matches they have no business being in.

How is that a solution? Why is it okay for one player to just create a situation that isn't fun for four other players and where the only way out is to essentially not play the game?

Being camped isn't fun. Sitting on generators because someone else is being camped isn't fun. The only person having fun in that situation (maybe) is the Killer. No one else is having fun that game. I don't think that's okay.

No fun for what should only be 5 minutes out of your night. Seems like a good trade in order to get past a bad player.

To me, no fun for 5 minutes is better than dealing with rehooks from a camper for the next 10 minutes because you keep feeding them. Besides... if you do it enough you'll eventually train them that it's not profitable.

  • Hook penalties have been tried in the past - they did nothing except open nasty exploits that the survivors could take advantage of.

There's already things in place that curtail the worst of the behaviors - such as certain powers not being usable a certain distance from the hook

There's also perks that let killers trade giving the hook distance in exchange for points or power in exchange - and the worst among our playerbase complained about that as well.

The bottom line is this... there is 4 survivors, 1 killer. Factor that in with the following

    • it takes 2 minutes (120 seconds) to die on first hook
    • it takes 80 seconds solo a generator, times that by the number of survivors in play.

There is literally no reason more than 1 survivor should die if a killer camps on first down other than unmitigated greed for points and misplaced altruism where you shouldn't be showing any in the first place.

Damn this exact post could be used for strategic camping or slugging and you wouldn't need to change a word except the first. Wow.

    Absolutely!

I'm of the opinion you should play how you want. Long as you aren't outright performing exploits expressively forbidden by the devs or outright hacking, all is fair.

  • I don't think this is the right game for you.

Looping is a valid strategy that you can play around if you actually put some effort into it. If you aren't willing to put in that effort, that's fine. But getting mad at players for utilizing their toolkit is a waste of time.

  • @Anara said:

I understand you, playing against these kind of survivors is very frustrating. Its boring and takes no skill.

I really wish people would stop playing the "it takes no skill" card because that is objectively not true.

Oh my mistake I wrote it wrong, I was brain afk my bad. I edited the post but here again: *me and my friend dont play to win*

Fair enough. I can respect consistency even if I don't necessarily agree with the overall statement.

But to answer your overall theme - How can people play like this. The answer is simple - not everybody is wired the same way.

For me, it takes a real conscientious effort to NOT try. I'm hard-wired to always be giving it my all because I was raised with the mentality of "if you aren't playing to win, why keep score?". I've tried caving to the social pressure to "relax" in the past and it's only brought me greater frustration.

Honestly, it was freeing for me to just let go of the shackles and play how I want to. Personally, I find it baffling that people would want to FAFF about with strangers they have no guarantee will extend the same courtesy. It's one think when you go into a game with mates with the attitude that you're going to meme all over each other. But with strangers? You don't know what you're going to get, so you better have your dukes up and ready to fight.

  • To be fair, moving in a straight line is not beneficial when the killer is not stunned and you don't have a speed boost.

However, if you have a speed boost and/or the killer is delayed, then yes widening the gap by holding W is the right call.

Context is everything. Context, apparently, is lost on people in this day and age.

So you say dbd is balanced enough to beat at any time regardless of your load out and their loadout?

May god have mercy on your soul.

I never said it was balanced. I said direct your ire at people who can do something about it.

Look at the title of your thread. You're directing your ire to the wrong people. You can't expect random players to NOT play to win.

  • DO THE GENS

You can say it sucks for the guy on the hook all you want, you can say that it's bad form. It doesn't change the fact that doing the gens is still THE RIGHT PLAY and finishes the game faster then feeding the camper.

Besides... half the time people call "camper" you can point to the survivors and how they brought it about. Either by fast saves, looping nearby, or getting caught near the last generators.

And Frankly, why should people NOT camp when I don't see survivors exactly slowing down on gens either.

Both sides play to win, deal with it.

  • All I see somebody who doesn't have the ability to beat what was put in front of them.

People are going to play to win, FULL STOP. You have 3 choices in front of you.

    1) Get better and learn to beat them

    2) Understand these things happen and find your own fun despite losses

    3) accept this game isn't for you and move on.

Complaining about people playing to win and letting it bother you is a one-way ticket to disappointment. If you can't do any of the above, you have no business in multiplayer games as you just don't have the right mentality for games that pit players against each other.

If you feel something is OP or fundamentally flawed with the game, point your finger at the people who can fix it. Expecting players not to leverage advantages is a waste of time.

  • Last time I tried to SWF, one person was constantly crying about "Bad killers this, trash killers that".

Kinda turned me off to every playing in voice chat with other players ever again.

So I go solo by choice now.

  • Trying to get others to play in a matter you agree with is a road that only leads to disappointment.

New Games modes would not give you want you want because people are ultimately always going to use the tools available to them.

  • Like everything I do in the game, it depends on the situation.

If they are making no effort to protect the survivor they took took long to rescue, then I'll take that as a hint they want that person dead and oblige them.

If they attempt to protect them when I'm far ahead, even if they do it badly, I am usually inclined to respect the effort and go after the person making the attempt. If I'm behind, I'm going to take the weakened survivor down and get them out of the game.

  • So much energy wasted over complaining over people you have no control over.

Look, either play the game your way and don't worry about it if somebody plays in a matter you don't agree with, or give up multiplayer gaming completely.

Listen folks.... I've been online with these games longer than some of you have been alive - it won't change. I suggest you learn to live with the fact people are going to play in a matter you don't like. If you can't handle that, there's no shame in moving on.

  • Doctor before his rework - literally the first month of his release when you had to switch to "treatment mode" just to do the regular shock, and shock did not have the pacify effect it has now. It literally just caused screams and madness. I reasoned it's purpose was the check hiding spots since it went through walls. Thus, I used it to check hiding spots through objects.

After one 4k, I had this chucklenut ######### that "the only reason I beat him is I could easily find him with my lame shock power."

    .... I kid you not

Um... dude... that's literally Doctor's thing at release. He sucked at the chase in exchange for the ability to find anybody at any time. He literally deletes stealth from the game as compensation for his at release garbage chase ability......

    I swear... some people

  • @theyenveeshay said:

Some of these responses give "I'm garbage at the game so I camp everyone to avoid learning how to actually play"

Same could be said for survivors who can't destroy a camper

Honestly, a team dedicated to defeating a camper would absolutely destroy their opponent - and it requires very little skill on the survivor's part.

But please, continue to put up that strawman instead of actually adapting to your opponent.

FFS, I just had to DEFEND a killer who camped me because survivors looped in my area, they didn't even give the guy the chance to leave.

You have 2 choices as a survivor when the killer camps. Either slam out gens and make him pay for it, or rush the hook as a team. If you aren't willing to do either - you have no place calling out campers for their gameplay because you are just as big of a scrub as they are.

  • I honestly don't care either way. I always assume my opponant is playing the meta till I get evidence that says otherwise.

But either way, I'm playing my game.

  • Your paragraph that starts with "the above games is one of the most toxic ways to play dbd" comes off as passive aggressive and removing it would have no impact on your central theme. You put the reader who engages in this on the defensive by assuming things about their psychology and it has no place in a civil discussion.

Overall, most of your ideas are pointless for the following reasons

    1) Chase emblem is already punished by staying in proximity of the hook while not in a chase. And I don't favor rewarding points to people who are camped. HOWEVER.... I am in favor of rewarding people who die on the hook but hit their skill checks and DONT DISCONNECT regardless of the proximity of the killer.

    2) 8 tokens on BBQ would make it a must have perk and this is not something anybody wants.

    3) Continuous striking of the survivor rewarding points just seems like a bad way for farming players to make extra points without actually fixing anything. You can strike people repeatedly for up to 2 minutes before you die. (Assuming first hook). This can be abused. If you are going to award points to the survivor for getting hit on the hook, you'll need to reward the killer points for people abusing their crouch keys. Co'mon man....

  • I suspect due to the fact that survivors are expected to combine their efforts to overcome the killer that the boons themselves aren't going to have that huge of an impact individually.

  • Eh, I see it as a brilliant nerf to NOED myself. NOED can't fire if there are no Dull Totems left. (And if you complain about NOED firing when you could be making boons for your team, most of us are just going to laugh at you now)

To me it seems like a good way to get survivors off gens and on totems which was sorely needed. It will slow the game down and it doesn't feel bad now that most totems aren't pathetically easy to find.

  • I finally gave Blight a try last week.

Holy crap... I earned a new respect of those who can play him well because I just don't have the manual dexterity to do very well with him. That being said, at least he isn't as nauseating for me to play as the Nurse is.

  • I wish I could credit the guy who had this idea, because it's brilliant. But I've always favored that instead of NOED being unlimited while the hex is in play, tie it to the number of dull totems that are in play.

Basically, every time you get a down with NOED and there's a Dull totem available, the dull totem breaks. If there are no Dull Totems available, the NOED totem self-destructs itself.

This seems like a fair compromise between keeping NOED's potency but rewarding survivors who manage to take out some of the Dull Totems.

Which makes for interesting counterplay with Boon totems now becoming a thing. Since NOED requires a Dull Totem to inhabit, it's entirely possible to block NOED from happening by creating boons (I still want to see the above change happen though)

  • I was surprised to see she's getting some nice little buffs. I've always felt she's a bit of a sleeper that has more power than people give her credit for.

Maybe now people will pick her up and notice she's actually pretty strong.

  • The reduced terror radius was always a bit of a head scratcher as far as I'm concerned. And frankly, you can still put MnA on him and get his old terror radius back anyway so whatever.

I was a bit skeptical about the changes at first , but since they seem willing to buff his speed while ADS is active, I'm willing to at least give it a chance. Because let's face it, repeatedly using ADS to keep survivor's guessing was a little to easy to zone survivors with.

  • I only bitched about keys because the Mori's were nerfed but the survivor's shortcut to victory was not touched. It felt very unfair. Frankly, If they reverted the Mori's in order to keep the keys, I would of been happy with that.

But this change, if it works as intended, is perfectly fine with me and I can live with it.

  • Deathslinger nerf actually doesn't look bad.

As for Spirit.... eh, I'll reserve judgement till I see it action.

  • Because I'd rather get the game over with and get into a proper game. Instead of complaining to the killers, point your ire to the punks who quit to begin with.

  • Is this the killer version of Sluzzy?

That being said, there's no need to make Brutal Strength basekit. Brutal Strength hasn't been a "must have" perk ever since the universal pallet nerf years ago.

  • Every time I see threads like this, I think of the countless false reports they are likely getting for dumb things like camping *looks at a certain content creator who will remain nameless*

  • Only a weak player refuses to use a tool in their toolkit because some random scrub told them it's weak.

As I said, that's what scrubs do.

I use the word Scrub very deliberately. It's the mindset of a player who has put mental shackles and roadblocks on themselves that prevents them from using every tool in their toolkit due to perceived "e-honor" which is meaningless to the context of the game itself.

I rail against this type of thing because it's the source of frustration for a lot of us. I used to enjoy games a lot less because I kept allowing myself to not use these perceived "cheap tricks". I find I enjoy my games more when I just "let go" and play how I want.

I've been watching this type of thing go on for DECADES now. You think DBD was the first game that ever had these type of arguments? This has been going on since before the internet was a thing. And it's such a pointless and silly argument because ultimately, you can't control how other players play. Believe me, I've been watching people try for decades now and nothing ever changes. And you can play as honorable as you like, and people are still going to get mad at you because you beat their ass anyway.

If you want to put shackles on yourself because you don't like a tactic - that's your choice. But stop trying to shame others into using all their tools at their disposal to meet their objective.

  • Shaming people into playing in a matter you agree with is actually what a true weak player does (AKA, a "Scrub")

People who are actually good welcome the dirty tactics and cheap tricks because they relish the challenge of going against it.

1 2 3 4 … 48
